This place has moved into town (rather than off the hiway toward Mist, as before) and expanded. I LOVE their new digs! I've rated this place a few times before (under Blue Cafe) and didn't rate them as well because of various issues I had with their food. Since they've moved into town (a short stroll from my home!!) I've eaten here twice. (They've only been here about a month). Turns out, I think the negatives I felt before may have been because they didn't get as much business since they were way down the highway. The meat seemed a lil dry and reheated. Now that they're in town w/ a steady flow of business, the meat has been fresh and juicy and delicious! I think the move has eased some stress or something on Sam too because he's more friendly and easy going than before. I think coming into town not only is going to make The Blue House Cafe BOOOOOOM, but it did a great favor to the townspeople.

If you ever find yourself lost or purposely traveling on Hwy 47, you must stop in at the Blue House Cafe! I love the Gyros Plate - so much food and so delicious! The owners are authentic and they live to serve. This establishment is a gem in the tiny hole of Vernonia!

Great food at a great price. We love riding the trail and this is the best place to stop, rehydrate, and have a bite. The wife and I split a Gyros. Large portion, plenty for the both of us. We couldn't leave without having one of the pastries, don't remember the name but it was great. Also very friendly service. Will be back...

Totally awesome!! Who would have thought a person would find such high quality Mediterranean food in lovely but tiny Vernona?! had the good fortune to eat there twice during this week of discovery, and HIGHLY recommend the dolmas (rice and meat wrapped in grape leaves, served with tziki (that you could eat by the cupful!)), the lamb-beef gyro (incredible homemade pita and perfectly browned meat), and the vegetarian soup - whatever it is! (this time it was excellent lentil soup with tomato, fresh parsley, and garlic. next up was split pea - hard to go wrong)... seems they pride themselves on vegetarian cuisine as much as the meat options - all super fresh - and the prices are more than reasonable: a very filling bowl of soup + pita goes for $4. to cap it off, blue house cafe is a family run business and they serve homemade Mediterranean desserts. what more could you ask for?

A great place for a delicious gyro and glass of wine after riding the Banks-Vernonia Trail!

Food was fresh, delicious and authentic. Definitely worth a stop as long as you're not in a hurry. My only complaint was the wait time was longer than normal. The restaurant was really busy. After our meal arrived, it was easy to see it was made fresh and specific for our order. My stomach rejoiced!

Great lunch spot! I had a lamb gyro and it was excellent. The lamb was moist and tasty and the pita couldn't have been better. To top it off, they have covered bicycle parking. Makes for a great reward after the bike ride from Banks to Vernonia.

Wow, great food in Vernonia! We ride through Vernonia on our way to Astoria (via Jewel and Berkenfeld, but I digress). Used to dread having to find food in Vernonia, as the choices tended to be bar food or greasy burgers. Not the best for being on the road. Happy to discover the Blue House in Pittsburg a few years ago, and really sad when they appeared to close down, but they simply moved to the main part of Vernonia (hope you're following all this.) Anyway..... Very nice food, very fresh, generous portions, nice people. The new location is very light, airy, open, spacious. The staff are very friendly. Very good selection of coffee drinks and teas. Lots of desserts. Vegetarian and meat dishes. Organic and local ingredients. Wow.

What a surprise to find this in Vernonia. Delicious home-made food. We were camping in nearby LL Stub Stewart State Park and craved a warm meal. The gyro plate was terrific and so was the soup of the day. Definitely try it if you happen to be in the area.

Visited Blue House on a cold, rainy fall day midway through our ride on the Banks-Vernonia Linear State Park trail. Microbrews were totally awesome. My husband's hamburger was delicious. The French Beef Provincial soup (more like a hearty stew) was absolutely amazing and so warming and delicious. The service was friendly and professional. We'd travel again in a heartbeat just to eat here.

The kid overcharged us and when we brought it to his attention he said "sorry, I overcharged you" and then made no effort to pay us back the difference. We waited to see if he would pay us, but he didn't, we figured he was loaded since he was acting slow and stoned. Not a huge deal but irritating having to deal with people like this.

Best Greek/Mediterranean food I've ever had. Loved the gyro plate so much we went back a week later and ordered again. The owners are extremely nice as well is the rest of the staff. We will be back again. We were visiting from SoCal and looking at houses for sale. Love the area, love the town of Vernonia, OR

Excellent food and very friendly service. I had the gyro platter which was a good amount of food, excellent sauce. We sat outside with dogs and they brought the dogs some gyro meat. If you are in the area, this is a great choice which was very nice of them.

We had already eaten, but stopped here to try their beer, as the sign says they are also a brewery. They had three beers on tap, an IPA, a stout and a red ale (?). They gave us little samples of all three and we liked the IPA the best, so ordered two pints, sat by the sunny window, enjoyed the funky music playing on the stereo and wrote this review!

Loved our take out lunch we had here today! The carrot salad lived up to the other great reviews it got on here: very flavorful! I paired it with a side of couscous and had a delicious meal. Thanks, Blue House!

As a local, out restaurant options are significantly more limited than in the valley. Blue house can be really great, but the problem is that it isn't always great. At times the food tastes microwaved and the texture of the beef/lamb mix becomes a bit chewy. Other times, it's awesome and completely satisfying. The couscous platter is our favorite and the apple cider during the fall is wonderful. Their baklava is always good!

Very good, very fresh especially the fruit and vegetables. Had the gyros platter and it was very satisfying.

This place was a gem in the middle of the mountains. Driving from St. Helens to Cannon Beach, we came across this funky little town in the middle of the mountains with this funky little place. Think of a coffee bar on steroids with some pretty great food and a very reasonable price. They were even able to accommodate my wife's dietary restrictions with ease. I'd definitely return, but given the rarity of my trips between St. helens and Cannon Beach, it may be a while.

Best reward ever! To start from Banks and ride all the way to Vernonia and stop at this place for beers and enjoy great food. The staffs here were friendly and such a cute place. Love the fact that this place catered to cyclists since it makes so much sense when majority of the people coming in to town were bikers and offering an indoor parking for bikes was a plus and being able to refill your water bottle for the ride back.

Stopped in after biking the Banks-Vernonia trail. Best Mediterranean food I've ever had -- who would have thought it in Vernonia, Oregon! Beautiful cafe, wonderful service, highly recommended!

Blue House is a hidden gem! We ended up coming in for a late afternoon lunch after hanging out at the Vernonia swimming hole and were not expecting such incredible food. We enjoyed it so much that we came back to Vernonia the next day for a repeat meal. I had overheard someone the day before singing the praises of the carrot salad and decided to give it a try. It was my favorite dish of the four that I tried (and I don't even like carrots). I highly recommend Blue House to anyone traveling through the area. I don't write many yelp reviews, but I knew I had to spread the word when I tasted this food!

Who knew the best Mediterranean food in Oregon is in Verona and not in Portland. I've been regular of Nicholas and Hoda's for years, but they run a far second to the Blue House. The beef platter was soooo good: the gyro lamb/beef was probably the most tender and favorable I've ever had, the Pita Bread the softest. The Jalab Ice Tea was excellent. The Kanafe was good, but better if served warm (or at least drizzled with warm honey.) The Dolmades were different than the usual thin and rolled kind. I think the counter gal's mom makes all the food. I overheard a few tables comment, "this is so good." One didn't care for the couscous, but loved the flat breads.

Second visit, a couple of years apart. Don't let the very casual interior fool you...The gyros are still excellent, full, very fresh veggies and really nice pita. The tzatziki is spectacular! Gazpacho was tasty and really refreshing on a 100 degree day. Topped off with a delicious orange blossom and pistachio baklava. This place is an unexpected gem.

Sometimes things have to be done the hard way. I just pulled in to Veronica after a 22 mile trail ride. With sweaty, fumbling hands and aching muscles I fumbled through my "summit pack" and shakily retrieved my keys and U-lock and hitched my bicycle to a post. Then, I walked into Blue House and saw bikes parked inside, so I turned around and went back out to get my bike. After doing thus, I noticed my rear tire was low, so I took out my 'lil pumper and started pumping away at my stupid, European valve. Oh, snap! My tire went from low to dead flat in seconds. I could not get a damn seal on the thing. Two young, mustachioed gentlemen Blue House employees came to my aid, offering the use of a different pump, advice on where to get help in town, and the suggestion to use my foot on the foot pedal pump rather than my hands. After I ordered my food and it came out I was still pumping away with zero results other than a good upper-arm workout, and like any good caregiver, I was told, "you know, why not come back to it on a full stomach?" Gandhi and Buddha combined have not produced such unimpeachable wisdom! With every mouthful of dolmes, carrot salad and peter bread I told myself, "it get 'mo bedda. It get mo bedda." The bitter greens topped with carrot puree sauce was the very best salad I've had all year. Ditto the dolmes, fill of steamy, moist rice and lamb. The casual, funky-colored, hippie ambiance combined with ready kindness of staff willing to help with anything from pumping up a tire to filling your water bag make this joint the gem in Veronica's crown. I want to thank those lads, plus Hernando, the gentleman who made hitching a ride easy after my tire went flat again in the middle of nowhere and I'd already hiked several miles on the trail with the prospect of 13 more to go. That sounds bad, but ask yourself, what makes a disaster? The day was warm. The sweet scent of Queen Anne's Lace was all over the trail, which I had to myself. Even if I had to hike all the way back to my car in the dark, I would have the stars and the voices of crickets to guide me, and if I was too tired for that I could law down in some tall grass beside a farmer's field and sleep my a baby deer. One must simply resign oneself to what is necessary, and everything else because simple and easy in an instant. Thanks again Blue House. I'll be back again...this time with two full tires.

We took an early morning bike ride from Stub Stewart State Park to Vernonia and back on the Banks/Vernonia bike path. I had previously looked at Yelp for some ideas and this place stood out. Most people loved it and so we thought we would ride to it and give it a try. We arrived lamenting that we had not brought our bike locks with us. As we rounded the corner we spied on the front window that there was bike parking inside the restaurant. What a great idea. That quickly became my favorite thing about this place but it got better. We ordered and also wanted some water. They have cups and a water cooler so you can help yourself. You can also fill up your water bottles there. I ordered a burger which came on their own bread. Very tasty and a side salad that was quite big. All in all a great meal. I stopped in their restroom and they allow writing on the wall. They provide the pens. You must adhere to their rules, however. See the photo. Tasty home cooked Greek food. The YS had some hummus and other greens which was also tasty. Yes, he let me taste. I would highly recommend and I will be back again.

Stopped at the Blue House Cafe while riding the b-v trail. A great place to get good food before heading back down the trail. Great food, very pleasant and homey atmosphere, accommodating staff - they seemed like family and I felt welcomed into their home. Indoor and outdoor seating. An indoor bike rack so it is obvious they cater to cyclists. We came in by a side entrance so did not see that they were closed. Still they welcomed us in and prepared us a great meal. We ate at a table in the nice courtyard so they could go home. When they left it was like parting from old friends.

We've been here twice now and want to make this a regular stop. Everything here is top notch...the tea, the salad, the hummus, the meat, the tzatziki...and it's all geared toward cyclists. They have ample INDOOR bike parking and plenty of self-serve water for filling bottles. The prices are reasonable, even if not rock bottom. And they play good music over their system. Most importantly though, all the food is very fresh and made to order. A meal or a tea here is a perfect "reward" for riding the Banks-Vernonia Trail.

Amazing Armenian restaurant. Affordable, really nice clean and comfortable space, fresh pita, indoor bike parking, tea made with mint from their backyard garden, an oasis of goodness. Can't recommend this place highly enough.

Beautiful, comfortable atmosphere. The owners take care in preparing your food. Delicious hummus, small pizzas, tzaziki, and salads. We've come back again and again and often make the drive to Vernonia to swim, walk around the lake and eat at The Blue House!

Food here was great. Service was slightly slow, but not to the point that it was overly annoying. Would definitely go back.

This was a tough one for me to evaluate. Part of me wants to give 4 stars, part of me wants to give 5. Damn you, Yelp, and your lack of .5 stars! Ahem...anyway, when I go riding on the ol' Harley, it's nice to find places to eat that road friendly but not just full of bikers. Quite frankly, I am not really a biker in a traditional sense. I fit in with bikers, but I don't want to stop at a biker bar every time I get food while on a ride. My wife feels the same way, so we like to look for places before we head out. This last ride went through only one town (besides my hometown, where we started the ride), and that was Vernonia. We, of course, check Yelp for places in the area. Hmmm...a Mediterranean/Greek shop? Worth a shot. We walked in, and the place seemed quite large for a counter service establishment. It sort of looks like it was a converted auto repair shop or warehouse of some sort. But they made the place look nice and open. I got flatbread, and the better half got a gyro. I am not a big fan of gyros, but this was really tasty. And the flatbread? Really well made, nice topping, and freshly prepared. The food came out in a reasonable amount of time, and the food was reasonably priced. The perfect stop for food with riding gear on without being a biker joint. So why not 5 stars? I asked myself if I would tell someone to go out of their way to go here. It is about 20 minutes out of the way from the drive to the coast on 26. Mmmm...maybe? Hence the 4, but really 4.5 stars. I WILL be back again!

Bike ride from banks to Vernonia got to stop here. We got the Gyro platter and Mediterainen platter for a quick lunch. Let me say that they were both excellent and the service was awesome.. Once we had finished eating what we had ordered we were ready to get more and try the deserts, but decied to wait until the next time we are there.

The Blue House is quite a find: a cute, unique restaurant in small town Vernonia. The food is good. We had the babaganoush and veggie pita. Honestly, I've had better in Portland, but in Vernonia one can't be choosy. The atmosphere is great. Everything is blue and yellow, warm and inviting. The Mediterranean mint iced tea is incredible! Fair prices. Have lunch here if you're in the area.

I stopped by here on a motorcycle ride through the coast range to grab a gyro. The space is a bit big and industrial looking. The few tables are spaced way apart so you feel like you are sitting in someones garage. They have a fairly small menu consisting mainly of gyros and other flatbread type items. They also have italian sodas, typical greek style desserts, coffees and appetizers. I got the gyro (of course) and my mate got a flatbread concoction that sortof looked like a pizza. My gyro was great, just as good if not really better than the Mad Greek. The lamb was very flavorful. Their tsatziki was full of fresh dill, yum! The flatbread concoction was really great, too. It tasted of olive, garlic and all good things. The flatbread was soft and chewy, very fresh. I would definitely go back, I just wish the place was a bit cozier.

This is the best Greek food ever! We have actually driven from Portland to Vernonia for the sole purpose of eating at this great restaurant. (we even used to dive out to their old location - but after the flooding they decided to move into town...on the main drag - which I think was a stellar move!!) You will love the owners and the people who work for them are wonderful. We always get the lamb plate...and it is AMAZING! I am attaching a few photos from the last few times we were there. Thanks Blue House for being WONDERFUL!

If you're taking the slow, beautiful, curvy way from Portland to Astoria (HWY 30 to HWY 47 to HWY 202) this is a great place to break. They have a good looking menu and a big case of fresh-baked treats. The service is extra friendly, and it's a wonderful laid, back environment. There's even a provided sharpie in the bathroom that lets you add to the already prodigiously graffitied walls. I'm reserving a star or two, since we didn't actually try the food. We were just there for drinks. Next time I'm through there, I'll break for lunch.

I was actually able to go on a street motorcycle ride and I went to Vernonia-Mist ride out Hwy 47. I actually started south from Beaverton and then loop'd up from Hwy 6 to 26 to 47. By the time I got to Vernonia I was getting hungry. The normal place I go to was closed....so I thought I'd have to wait until Mist....but out of the corner of my eye on the side of the road I saw a sign that said Gyros and Espresso. I got on the brakes and swung a u-turn. Pulled in and was pleasantly surprised. The case was full of desserts and bacclava. I ordered a standard gyros sandwich it was pilled high with vegetables and lamb covered in sauce. Service was quick and efficient. Friendly. It was great. I hope this place sticks around and its definitely a destination for me on future rides.

Ride the bike path out here and check out this beautiful, spacious cafe dedicated to fresh and delicious and truly Mediterranean cuisine. Fast, good-hearted service. Hard to say which was more attractive, the counter person or the baklava. Even the art work on the wall (by owners husband) was great. My eyes are still dazed by all that blue
