We stopped by on our way from Eugene to Boise with the kids. Saturday night prime rib with fresh corn, homemade mashed potatoes and toast, it was great!! The kids had fish and chips and corn dogs which they really liked. The service was really good and the wide variety of pies was awesome. For Vale this is 5 stars for everywhere it's a 4 star. Totally recommend the stop!!

The cafe is in the ranch town, Vale, near north-south & east-west crossroads. The west, south and east highways continue into the high desert while to the north are the Blue Mountains. I stopped for Sunday brunch and ordered the Starlite omelette with hash browns and toast. In the omelette were ham, sausage, olives, peppers, tomatoes, onions and cheese. The whole wheat toast bread was thick and firm; no comment on the hash browns. This was a rancher portion with three eggs; if you want a small portion, order from the "kiddie" menu. The large parking lot was nearly full, mostly local folks.

Friendly staff, extensive menu, well lit & clean. Had a delicious club sandwich with a large serving of tater tots. Huge pie selection - my slice of Almond Joy was a real treat.

I used to work seasonally in this town and ate at this restaurant quite a bit. Good food, good service, good price, and I love the Gravy Fries!!!

Very good cafe food. Some of the best finger steaks I have ever had. Generous portions. My wife had chicken strips, and there was plenty to come home. The fries were well done and tasty. A trip to the salad bar is part of the dinner order, and I have to admit, it was a very decent salad bar. It looks like they are well-known for their pies and had a huge selection. My wife and I had the almond joy pie. It was good. If you are going through Vale, you should stop by. If you really like Finger Steaks, I'd recommend going, even from Ontario. The dinners we saw were all in the $10-12 range. They had Prime Rib (Saturday night) for $19.

We hesitated stopping here but are so glad we did. Absolutely wonderful food and service. The place was clean and the people friendly. Reasonable prices for good old fashioned food.

The cafe has one star in my review because the waitstaff was nice. My husband's coffee cup was dirty so he asked for second one. The salad bar was fine. Both my cup and his bowl of chili was COLD. The cheese on top certainly did NOT melt. We asked for our bill and left. How hard is it to heat up chili? We tried this restaurant because Yelp had great reviews. My review is " go someplace else!"

Local food at it's best. Clean, excellent service, generous portions. Nothing fancy but most items are fresh and homemade. I had the BLT and it was loaded with 'real' bacon (not those thin, greasy slices where you taste more oil than bacon), just the right amount of mayonnaise (which means not too much), fresh lettuce, and good tomatoes on excellent toast. A perfect lunch stop if you happen to be traveling US Highway 20 or 26.

Very good diner food. The tuna melt is not traditional but delicious. The soup was fantastic. Fries and tots typical. Friendly and quick

My mother worked here in High School sometime in the 1960's---and not much has changed. I was there late last year--and its the same genius. Sure it has its issues....however, we rec'd amazing service, cures for our hangovers, fries with gravy and oatmeal pie to go. This place is a piece of my history---and my future. Its like an unfound gem waiting to be discovered.

Definitely a worthwhile lunch stop if you make it to this little town. The crowd of locals were the real deal, dusty cowboys taking time out for lunch and pie. The waitress asks you ?"Tots or Fries?" when you order - I'm guessing they take their potatoes seriously since it's near the Ore-Ida factory. Then there was the marionberry pie we took to go and ate in huge bites as we drove through thunderstorms and hail in the eastern Oregon dessert. Lots o'pie choices and the staff...friendly.

I had the opportunity to work in Vale a number of summers several years ago. This was one of two places we would go for lunch everday. This is your typical (very) small town diner. It has a salad bar, good sandwiches, good soups and some solid dessert options. If you ever find yourself in Vale (and I can't imagine why you would), this little cafe likely won't disappoint.
