Harvest Restaurant

Reviews:
What a brilliant dinner we just had at Harvest! Chock full of the reasons we moved to and live in Talent, Oregon! Harvest offers dinners its lovely, quiet, low-key (but artful) decor, relaxed, fun. We had a friendly, open Good People server -- and our dinners! Local ingredients, beautiful seasoning and preparation -- ALL, MUCH better than nearly all of the over-priced, often pretentious (yet all too often NOT savory) assembly-line chow you get stuck with, in all too many nearby Ashland restaurants (often for far more money -- a double insult). Two of us had had chef John's strip loin beef -- which came gorgeously cooked and prepared, garnished with imaginative crispy shallots, perfectly-roasted Brussel Sprouts and delicious crispy roast potato slices, plus REAL blue cheese bits and a light balsamic reduction. Arty, DELICIOUS, and very carefully put together -- and $24.00 (not $35 or worse). We also enjoyed a small yet very interesting (mostly Rogue Valley) wine list. In fact, the entire menu was appropriately small -- such that everything we saw on coming out of the kitchen of down-to-earth (oh, Talent!) 'HARVEST' looked equally savory to ours. A small place is wise to not try to be everything to everyone. Harvest is so good, in fact, that I'd almost call it 'French' -- but in that country French way you find in the country in France, in ridiculously good small family restaurants, including human, delightful staff. And you could tell that we (yes, world-traveling foodies) aren't the only ones who are sold on Harvest: it was comfortably full on a TUESDAY night, with mostly Talent people, So probably I'm doing a terrible thing here, because we'd (greedily) prefer Harvest to not get 'discovered.' But seriously, seriously good on all fronts.
I live in the hills above Talent and I go here fairly regularly and I think this place is great. The chef is an artist of sorts and his use of flavors and textures is quite amazing. This is not for everyone I am sure, but in Southern Oregon where the local palette is bland and blander (would you like some Ranch on that?) this place is an oasis of edible ideas waiting to be discovered. Without the pretension of nearby Ashland, Harvest strikes a balance between casual and well dressed, the food is the show here! They are working hard to make healthy , local food that is both delicious and beautiful. Please disregard those that bring their attitude to dinner, and keep this place alive and breathing.
The best meal we've had in the last 10 days in the medford/Ashland area. We're food snots from sf and mom has been stuck in the medford hospital so we've been dining out a lot lately of area restaurants this week. We randomly stumbled upon harvest and we're almost in disbelief about their perfect five. But they deserve it. Harvest wins. Food quality, atmosphere, service. All fantastic. Thank you for a great evening harvest team!

Another hidden jewel of a restaurant, well-known to locals but an unexpected delight for visitors. Haute cuisine in an unlikely environment. Be prepared to enjoy a long, Continental-style meal prepared fresh for you from locally sourced meats and produce. Tip: The wine list is spectacular, and is not often re-adjusted in pricing. That can yield some fantastic finds.
This place surpassed our expectations and I don't think that it's just because it's been so long since we found a place like this to enjoy a meal. We ordered one price fix menu item and one ala cart with salad and entrée. The price fix menu was the salad with lamb chops and the desert I picked was the peanut butter and jelly tort and he picked the ginger ice cream. His entrée was salad and the steak. Everything was amazing and the service was great. Be prepared to drop some cash but it will be worth it. We brought our own wine in and enjoyed it with a six dollar per person per bottle corkage fee. More than reasonable for what you can get here. Plan on calling in for reservations.
Celebrated our anniversary at New Sammy's Cowboy Bistro, and it was terrific. The restaurant used to have an outside facade reminiscent of the Bate's Motel right out the the movie "Psycho", but in recent years they have added a more modern adobe styled addition. Inside there's the new part, and the, very quaint, old part. We dined in the old part, with its many menus, posters, wine labels, etc. on the cow wall papered walls, in one of the many nooks and crannies. Started with a glass of champagne, which was good, but at $16 a glass, a bit pricey for my taste buds! Judging from the stacks of empties in the courtyard though, they sell a lot of it. Along with that we had some crackers and olives. For a salad, I had the prosciutto, the best I've ever had, and my wife had asparagus, which was picked that day from Cowhorn Vineyard and Farm, our favorite winery. We both had scallops for the entree, served with Sammy's wonderful bread (sold throughout the Rogue Valley) and olive oil. The scallops were very tasty and we enjoyed them with a bottle of a nice viognier. The menu incidentally devotes one page to the salads and entrees, one page for the dinner that evening, and the following 14 or so pages to its wine list! Very extensive! The dessert we shared was a PB&J sandwich, which is a concord grape gellato surrounded by peanut butter ice cream on both sides with chocolate swirls. Surprisingly good. The service was friendly and helpful and all in all this is a wonderful place for a special dinner out.

Waiter is quite adorable.
I have been here a few times now, always giving it another shot because for some reason, I want to like it better, probably because it's very cute inside. However, a fun, bright interior can only take you so far. Eventually, stuff like food and service start to overshadow how cute the place looks. The good: they have a nice kids menu that is reasonably priced and the portions are great for the little ones. My kids ate every bite, which is rare. I ordered the special asparagus omelet and was underwhelmed. It's not that it was bad, just that it's generic and nothing special other than it was expensive. Their food is completely unmemorable across the board. Also, $4.50 for a side of bacon or sausage? Are you effing kidding me? I didn't get that obviously. I wish they offered a side meat with their dishes, but apparently only with the kids' meals. Anyway, I got the "seasoned" home potatoes that came with my omelet. Basically, they served me diced roasted potatoes with zero seasoning. These puppies were the blandest I have ever had the misfortune of being served. Sure, I salted them, I peppered them, but the damage was done. I didn't touch them after a few bites of utter disappointment because nothing I did could save them. They really ought to update their menu description to "flavorless home potatoes" just to be fair to their patrons. The service is always a little odd. Our waitress was very nice, if not a tad slow. I have had their lunches on previous visits and always found their grilled sandwiches extremely greasy, to the point where I could not eat them. This is my final visit here.
Great coffee and excellent personalized, friendly service. Yummy comfort food as well. And, WIFI. Can't go wrong at this place for Talent.

I grew up in Talent and always thought of the Talent Club as a trashy bar, so I was a little hesitant when my friend wanted to have a drink there on a recent trip back home eleven years later. I was, however, pleasantly surprised at its beer selection and overall look. Granted they only serve beer and boxed wine, and there were maybe five other patrons in the bar besides us, but I felt comfortable. It's very obviously a local/regulars hangout and there is pool, a jukebox, and video poker. I don't remember if they have a parking lot, but we parked across the street in the Ray's lot. We only stayed for one beer, but I'd probably come back for one more when I come back again in eleven years.

This place is pretty awesome. They have pizza and salads and really great beer. They also have a sick pinball machine and a asteroid game. The service was friendly and helpful. Stay cool.
We went to the Grotto on sa Saturday night. It was crowded. The staff were extremely friendly and efficient. We ordered the Sicilian Pizza and it was excellent. The crust was delicious. Lots of beer choices and wine as well. Loved our meal?
Way overpriced! 5.50 for a tiny add on salad. The veggies for the veggie sandwich were premixed so cooks were not happy that I didn't want mushrooms. The only chicken available was breaded. Then to top off the 40$ bills for the two of us was no drink refills.

Horrible. We ordered "ma pu tofu" and beef lo mein. We originally wanted beef chow mein, but switched to lo mein at the suggestion of our waitress. The tofu was the worst excuse I have ever seen for that dish. The sauce was white! Not red, not brown, white! While the noodles for the lo mein dish were egg noddles, the food itself was terrible. You'd have to try on purpose to make food this bad. I'd have been satisfied with standardized American-Chinese food, but this was many levels worse. I'd rather go to Panda Express (mall food).
i ordered 'mar far chicken.' it was fried chicken balls that are probably used for other chicken dishes, this had no sauce i almost choked. the fried shrimp was substandard. but the beef/veggie mix i got was tasty with real veggies!!. not just peas, celery, and onions, and don't forget the water chestnuts. :)
I really wish there was a 3.5 rating because that's what they would be. We were seated pretty fast, it was lunch hour on Monday and the place was a third full. The entire time our waiter (owner?) was very attentive, but toward the end seemed to want to rush us out of there....asking if we needed a box while we were still working on our food. Anyhow, the food was good - just standard Chinese food, but it wasn't greasy like you sometimes get. Hence the 4 stars. Pricing was great, entire meal with a soda refill came out to be 6.50 - what a bargain!
