Friendly greeting by some fishing guys sitting at a table. Good espresso and smoothie. The sandwiches looked tasty although I didn't get one. Cool little place but the (smoking hot) woman that served us was not real friendly.
Good stuff. You don't have much of choice when it comes to food in Shady Cove, Oregon, but if you did have to make a choice, this is a good one. We like to grab sandwiches (& maybe some soup) from the Picnic Basket, ask the guys at the Fishing Hole for some pointers on what to fish with at the Rogue River, and eat our sandwiches as we watch the river flow.
They must put magic on these sandwiches. Every single sandwich I've had from here has competed with the last sandwich I had from here for the best sandwich I've ever had. The meat, the cheese, the vegetables, the bread, even the condiments, are top quality and taste it. Sometimes it can be a bit of a wait, but it's well worth it.

Pam is a great server however everyone seems friendly. Great views of the Rogue River. Food is fantastic. Will come back.
Having settled into our Royal Coachman Motel, we asked where to go for dinner. The receptionist recommended Mac's Diner right next door, because, she said, the food was decent and the view gorgeous. She was right. We were lucky enough to obtain a real, diner-like, aquablue colored, old Americana type bench seats by the window with a view of the Rogue River gently flowing by. I ordered the Fish and Chips as did my Dutch girlfriend, and her daughter ordered the corndog which arrived in a paper Elvis Special 1950s car. My girlfriend splurged and got the Pale Ale; I, in turn, spoiled myself with a malt chocolate shake. Both were good. The french fries were nice and crunchy, the fish could have consisted of a little thicker patties and the fish breading was okay. The cole slaw was fresh but 'boring' and I cannot tell you why exactly. I think I missed pepper. And then to try to explain the ambiance... We actually, believe it or not, saw otters playing on the other side of the river, several, all during dinner! It made it super fun. The decor with all the Elvis accents and fifties feel was unbelievably interesting as my pictures show, and other reviews explain.
Set the seen, I usually eat with 1-3 picky girls who like their food a certain way and won't deviate from their typical way of eating... Its very rare that we make it through a meal at a restaurant where everything has gone according to plan and everyone is happy at the end of the meal... Today was one of those rare occasions... Don't get me wrong, there were a few minor hick-ups with the service, but the meal itself was 98% complain free (2% goes to a little too much salt on our youngest girls chicken strips, and after tasting them she was right, just a little bit too salty)... My meal was a typical diner breakfast, cinnamon swirl french toast (that tasted far better than it looked in the picture I posted) with bacon and scrambled eggs... The bacon was semi-thick and cooked well, and the eggs weren't rubbery like you some times get at diners... The staff was very nice, and the hick-ups we'll chalk it up to a busy Saturday morning rush... Prices were decent and we left full! The place is tucked back a little ways from the street, so don't miss it! Once inside it overlooks the river... The decor was clean, a little whacky, but full of that 50's memorabilia and good vibrations... This place is a great spot to hit before hitting the lakes! ***Eat Local***

the breakfasts are gigantic! And really really tasty! The prices here are very fair and the service was good. The one reason we stopped here is that is was near the rafting place we were using for the day...it certainly looked like a hole in the wall! But this is the best kind of hometown, down to earth, great place. So glad we found it!
Very friendly, good coffee, excellent portion. A prototypical diner, standard fare, but tasty. Had plenty of seating, both tables and a counter, and on a Sunday was pretty full. Service was neither slow or fast, and my coffee cup was filled three times without having to ask. Had the pancake special, 1 egg, two bacon, one pancake for $5.95. Bacon was thick, slightly crispy, greasy and delicious. The pancake was good sized, and the egg was a good medium. Good sized meal that filled me well.
Was looking for a place for a light, early breakfast when I walked into Shy's cafe. The waitress said breakfast was offered all day, so why not? The Denver omelet is deceiving. It came out on a large plate with a huge helping of hash browns and a biscuit the size of an adults closed fist. The egg for the omelet was only slightly thicker than a crepe, which I thought was impressive considering the omelet itself was the size of a burrito. I was a little disappointed, no veggies or salsa on top like most places. That's because it's stuffed full of everything. Really. Big cubes of ham, bell peppers and oozing cheese. Waitress was friendly, service was great, food was wonderful.

Service is hit and miss here but the food is consistent. It's nothing special but decent mexican food. The best aspects of this restaurant are sitting outside on a warm summer night enjoying the river view and rafters passing by and of course the delicious margaritas in a multitude of flavors.
Huge menu. Great view from seats on the covered patio overlooking the river. Food is a mixed bag; some items tasty, others just "meh". Service very slow.
After enjoying so many good meals here, it was very disappointing tonight. The chunky salsa was watery, the regular salsa was not very good. They have changed the recipe and now it tastes like the old restaurant Chevy's that went out of business. Chips weren't warm, or fresh. Enchilada was very small. I believe it was about 1/3 smaller than it used to be. Service was very slow, and we were almost the only people in the place. Other than attending an event like tonight we probably won't be back.

The poor girl who worked the night shift here seemed absolutely miserable. It almost made me feel guilty for even getting a sandwich there in the first place. This was the last place open apparently on a Sunday night in Shady Cove and was our last resort. I was kind of wary since it is in a gas station, but we were hungry. The place wasn't exactly clean and shiny like most subways and the toppings seemed old. Would definitely skip this place unless its absolutely necessary, like my case. please, Subway, try and make your employees a bit more happier!!
