A group of 4 of us went here for a dinner after a day of hiking around Mt.Hood on Sunday, Sept. 15, 2015. My wife went there last in the 90's and liked it. A friend we went with had been there in the distant past and also liked it. Myself and another friend had never been here before. It took us about 20 minutes to be seated as there was a group of 16 ahead of us that sort of prolonged the wait, but no big deal. Once we went in, the first thing I noticed was that my feet were sticking to the carpet due to residue on it. It was pretty gross. Once seated, my wife and her friend that had been there before knew what they wanted. After myself and the other friend studied the menu, we decided on the Pastrami Mushroom Burger. My wife also said that sounded great and wanted one too. Once the waitress came over for our order, we ordered 3 of the Pastrami Burgers but was told, they ran out of Pastrami. We were sort of shocked and very disappointed and she said, "well it is Sunday". Guess everyone knows that they don't have pastrami on Sundays. OK, that is except us and a group of about 6 that came in about 15 minutes later from Beaverton who drove there just for the Pastrami Burgers only to be told the same thing. We knew this as they were vocally upset and so we couldn't help but hear. My wife and her friend needed silverware for their before dinner salads they ordered and their pop. Well they had to ask twice. The silverware, the waitress just put in the middle of the table without a word like she was put out. OK, we ordered different burgers. i ordered a Bacon Mushroom Burger. All burgers came out and I cut mine in two and felt it was odd that the bacon on it cut so nicely. I took two bites and did not taste bacon. I examined the burger and saw no bacon. I asked waitress if bacon burgers are supposed to have bacon? She looked at me strange and said yes. I asked where my bacon was and she said, sorry and will be right back. She put a plate next to me with 3 strips of bacon but again, said nothing. The food was ok, though I did not like their fries as they had some weird coating on them and the burgers were skinny for the price you pay. They were not thick and juicy like I was expecting. Well, I went to the restroom to wash my hands as the burgers were a bit messy and when i opened the door, there was a musty smell, dimly lit and water all over floor (not from toilet) but as if something was leaking. I washed my hands and went to the automatic towel dispenser and no paper towel came out. I went to the second dispenser, no paper towel came out. I thought I had to read how to use them until I looked closely into them and saw both were empty. I used toilet paper and as I threw it in trash can, i noticed the trash can was pretty full and all toilet paper in it as far as I could see, so they had been out of paper towels for quite awhile. i don't know, maybe because it was Sunday. My impression was not a favorable one and doubt i will ever go back. My wife said it went way down hill since she was last there. The cleanliness i would give it a 1. The food, maybe a 3. Running out of food, a major disappointment and no paper towels and a gross bathroom, well I won't talk on that. Anyhow, no way I could recommend Calamity Janes to anyone. With the restaurant being so dirty and a sticky, carpeted floor, I wonder how good and fresh the food really is and how clean is that kitchen?

I have been coming here for the last twenty years. It's one of the few restaurants that I can say that has maintained its quality through that time. Which is in this case isn't the best thing considering things can be improved. Such as the quality of ingredients but the food overall is enjoyable but not for the health conscious. Also it's a terrible place to kick back and have a beer. The waiting staff is always surprised when you order a beer. The atmosphere is stuffy and feels a little tense. Extremely family oriented. PROS: -jaw dropping burger selection -fantastic malts and milkshakes -great crispy fries CONS: -grumpy old people -tables are extremely close together -atmosphere in general

Went there with a party of 7, with 3 small children. The waitress was great and took our order quickly. We were so hungry!! The Tijuana Temptation is a tostada on a burger-super tasty! My son ordered a 1-pounder and was not disappointed. Definitely give this place a shot. Unique and fun vibe.

Wow! I was so embarrassed! I grew up in Sandy about 10 years ago and I loved Calamity Janes. Today we spent the day on the mountain and I spent all day hyping up the restaurant to my girlfriend...so we are starving for an awesome burger but that's not what we got. I was so freaking disgusted. The fake frozen burger patty was over-cooked and foul tasting. Even the condiments were awful! I wondered why she never asked how we wanted our burger cooked and realized it's because you can only cook a frozen patty one way! I feel sick to my stomach. The fries were ok but not worth ever eating at this place again. I don't know if they changed how they make their food or if I just grew out of being able to eat crap. Whatever the case I would have rather stopped at the Dairy Queen instead and that's the truth.

So the party I was with ordered the 5lb party burger, and it was massive! The presentation was really fun. I had a veggie burger and it was pretty good, probably not a home made patty, but I got it with guac and it was tasty! The beer selection could use some diversity, but they had an IPA... What else could a Portlander ask for? I read several reviews about poor service, and I have no idea what they are talking about! Our server was friendly, helpful and let us bring in our own dessert. Kitschy and funny ambiance rounded out the whole experience nicely.

It was like entering the old west as I've always imagined it as I pushed the door open. Well, it seemed old at least. The doors were crooked and the seat rocket awkwardly, unstably as I sat down. The doors were askew and the flooring dirty with years of use. The hook on the back of the door was twisted and unable to accommodate my purse. As I sauntered to the sink I was greeted by ample amounts of soap and plentiful paper towels. The mirror was cracked, just like every mirror in the old west (pretty sure that part is accurate). Overall it was a pleasant experience. I've definitely seen worse bathrooms. Burgers were good, too.

In a word, touristy. I felt like driving up to Hood, but was denied at the pass (inappropriate tires). On my way back, I thought to stop in because of it's kitchy look on the outside. Which looks like a wild wild west -type of saloon. However, when you walk inside, it's a bit dingy and kinda dark. Not very fun. Menu was interesting. A s'more burger? Ew. Also, as far as the service...it was questionable. My server was pretty rude to another because she (my server) walked backwards and almost knocked over this other server because she was 'in her way'. Back to the food.... I ordered fish and chips. Umm.....I don't know which river/ocean they get their fish from, but it was stringy. Like chicken. I might have had an illusive chicken fish. I was hungry, so I ate it. The only redeeming feature of this place is a toppings/dressing bar. The ranch dressing was pretty good. Would I go here again - no.

Great food and fun atmosphere! We had a huge group with lots of kids and their staff didn't skip a beat ! They were fast and friendly and they had a huge menu and the cooking tasted like it was straight from grandmas kitchen. The milkshakes were perfect.

I went here with a group of 10 after a weekend in Rhododendron. It's supposed to be a burger parlor, and yes, they have a huge menu filled with mediocre burger creations. Pizza burger? No thanks. My friend ordered it because he's nuts and a dude who will eat ANYTHING and he said it was mostly mediocre and didn't finish most of it. I'm not saying don't check it out, just don't expect good food. I got a mushroom swiss burger and it was ok, I could only choke down a few bites though. And I think it was like ten bucks. Portland prices for sure. We were all starved after a weekend of camp food and drinking but that definitely did not hit the spot.

A great stop for your way home from the mountain. The burgers are great but are a little spendy. If you are looking to save a few bucks don't take the family but for 2 people it would be perfect. If all you can afford is McDonalds don't stop but if you want to create some great memories with your family then you have to stop. The kids will love it. Bring a dollar bill for them to decorate and hang up. It will keep them occupied.

I'm always a big fan of big burgers. I had the mushroom/bacon wrangler size. It was very filly and good in general. The fries aren't the best...that's maybe I don't really like fries when I'm full!

Awesome food! Stopped by on our way back from camping and they did not disappoint. I had the fish sandwich, and it was perfect. They did not skimp on the fish. Everyone else enjoyed their food as well. The shakes are a must try.

We stopped in after a long hike up the mountain and ordered food to go, which was when things got strange. We got some really strange vibes here..Perhaps, we looked like outsiders from these parts, but I was very friendly and kind to the wait staff and was pretty excited to try their burgers. Anyhow, the place was really slow and there were at least seven wait staff that I could count seriously just standing around. After thirty minutes our friend got his burger and fries and we figured ours were right behind his, however almost fifteen minutes passed and still no burger. I saw people walk up to the heat lamp area where the cook puts the food when it's to be served and saw multiple employees look inside of a to go box and then put it back. When I finally got up to complain the hostess went to get my food and it was the same stinkin' box. Now, I'm a really patient person, I should not have waited as long as I had to to complain, but I gave these people a break..I once worked in food and it was terrible, but my priorities were simply to serve food. Not to hang out with my coworkers, which is what most of the employees were doing. I noticed that whenever a familiar face showed up they were greeted with a welcoming smile and kind words. We were greeted with nothing. I opened the box to check the temperature of the burger and fries and both were luke warm and the fries were soggy. I told the hostess I was really unhappy with the service and before I could say any more she walked away to get the woman who took our order. Once she came to help us, she asked what she could do and I asked for my money back. She simply walked away, served customers drinks, and then proceeded to act like I was a giant inconvenience once she finally came back. There were a lot things I wanted to tell this woman and the people who worked here, many mean things, but I simply got my money and left. This place is awful, our buddy's burger was sub par. For a place that takes pride in their "great" burgers you'd think they'd make their own patties, perhaps even their buns. The decor is fun at first and then after you wait too long and really get a good look around it's just tacky and gross. I would have avoided this place altogether if my phone wasn't dead at the time. All I have to say is Calamity Jane needs to get her shit together--very disappointing.

This place is all about the experience. It's a funny little parlor restaurant way out past Sandy, Oregon with kitschy western decorations, and a mess load of crayon covered dollar bills stapled onto the walls. The main highlight is the wide variety of ways they will make up hamburgers that takes up a page and a half of the menu. This combined with their offering of 32 oz mugs of beer always make me eager to come out for a visit. Unfortunately, it is quite a haul to get over there from Portland, so I only make it out once or twice a year, but with the nice staff and the good food, I've never had a bad experience. Definitely give this place a try at least once. You know, for the experience.

I haven't been here in over 10 years until last weekend. The service was slow, the food was good (not great), the price was fair and the establishment was filthy. The mens bathroom lighting was so dim you couldn't see you were standing in urine. Um ya thats disgusting. Go ba k for another try, I think not.

A friend and I went here for dinner last night. The first thing we noticed was a lack of parking. We considered parking next door. But, when we realized that would have been in a tow company parking lot we decided not to do them any favors. We lucked out when a single space opened up in the small lot. We were quickly seated. The table was stable and the wooden chairs were, as well. After a short initial perusal we ordered a Blooming Onion as appetizer. It was HUGE! While we were waiting for our appetizer we were overwhelmed with the choices. Some of which, completely baffled us. In particular the Marshmallow burger. I do not recall its exact ingredients but, with marshmallow on the menu it was something crazy. The list of burger options nearly filled one full side of the large format newspaper page. We ordered a shake to share. There were many flavors offered. I asked if their shakes were hand dipped. Our server quickly admitted they were soft-serve . I think my PID and I guessed that the flavors would be actual bits fruit or the candy. Even DQ uses chunks of candy in their (soft-serve yet thick) Blizzard. We ordered an Almond Roca shake. When I ordered I suppose I should have asked if it had actual chunks of Almond Roca. Had I asked I would have found the Almond Roca was merely a syrup flavoring added to their vanilla soft-serve. It was pretty bad. I just couldn't consume it. My partner-in-dine had no problem eating her half of the 12 ounce shake. But, she in no way wanted mine as well. The Blooming Onion came out very timely. I will admit I fully expected the sauce, from the menu description, to taste substantially like the best dipping sauce I have had at Outback. Well, it didn't. The sauce was flavorless. Although, a little heat did show through at the back of my tongue. Heat is not flavor. I think the sauce base is sour cream with something added to make it look orange. And a little smoky flavor more like smoked paprika instead of chipotle as described. It was without flavor. We barely had a chance to tuck into the onion when our burgers were suddenly delivered. We both expressed our surprise at the swiftness of receiving our burgers having just gotten our Blooming Onion. Our server kept a smile on her face, put our burgers on the table and walked away saying nothing. What else could she do? The meat of the burger is nothing special. I believe the meat had been previously frozen and preformed. It is not hard to tell the difference between fresh and frozen. But, not having been in their kitchen I can surmise this from my own experience. The french fries were encased in a light crispy batter. The batter was rather tasteless. Inside the fries felt and tasted like mashed potatoes. Maybe this is a personal preference but, I would rather eat real potatoes. The staff shirts all say "One nation under GOD". It is my belief that GOD is not strictly above us. Whatever GOD may be I am certain it is not restricted to one nation or one location. Forget that the whole purpose of the creation of our Nation was to specifically separate Church from State. That said, the reason I will NOT return to this place is that it simply was not worth my $$.

My family has been coming here for many many years. Recently we had a small family reunion and we were all craving a Calamity Jane's burger! We had a party of 8 and were there right when they opened on a Saturday morning. We were the first ones there and the teenage staff were all congregating at a table in the center of the restaurant. I think a couple of them were cooks and the others were servers (including ours). When we walked in and told them how many we had in our party we immediately received dirty looks and one of the cooks said "Oh so its going to be that sort of morning" very loudly. I've worked in the restaurant industry for many many years, so I completely understand how it all works, however, this sort of behavior should be done in the back of the house, not in the absolute middle of the restaurant. It really left a bad taste in my mouth and was embarrassing in front of my family. As always, the food was incredible and our server was nice, but the staff behavior right of customers when you walked in might be enough to not have me return. Or at least not to come here in the morning.

Still the best burgers in Sandy, try the deep fried mushrooms and a milkshake . They have any size burger you want and any topping you can think of. Yummy! !

A great out of the way place to go for eclectic burgers. Everything from your standard American burger to chocolate sauce and pie cherries. Service is always pretty good and burgers are huge (coming in at 1/3, 2/3, and full pound sizes).

After reading some of the recent reviews we were hesitant about stopping in for lunch. But my friend really wanted to stop. I had the halibut fish and chips which are freaking amazing. And my friend had the combo pizza burger. Which was also huge and amazing. Milkshakes are huge and thick. Decor is western with wood plank walls. My server was very friendly and told me about the burger bar (where you can add more toppings to your food). Amazing place everyone should stop!!

I thought this place was awesome. We were seated very quickly, despite the restaurant being near full. Our waitress was beyond friendly and helpful with the menu. I agree that the many burger choices could be overwhelming, but they tout themselves as a burger joint, so it's to be expected. I had a Death By Chocolate shake which was delish with small chunks of brownie. I also had the chili burger which was amazing, but very filling. I'd recommend splitting it, even with the 1/3 pound patty. The restaurant itself is kitschy, but fun!

Don't bother. It was one of those fun-sounding dives we had to try, but it really wasn't worth it. The host staff was comically bad, to the point where it felt like maybe we were being punked. The decor is trying for old west cute kitsch, but it just feels creepy and forced. There's a bizarre painting over the burger bar of American soldiers helping Iraqui children while ghosts of revolutionary soldiers lurk in the background, and the staff is all wearing tshirts with some kind of incomprehensible slogan about america. Combine that with one hostess saying she would 'get reamed really hard' if she didn't adhere to their bizarre seating policies, and it felt like there was some kind of scary nutso person running the place. But I really wouldn't have cared if the food was better. It was not. The burgers are like grade Q meat, not hand formed, fast food style. Fine, but they're $10. You feel like you're eating gristle flavored with liquid smoke. It's cute how they have weird options like the hot fudge marshmallow burger, but it's really the kind of thing you'd probably only want one bite of, and at $10 you can't even do it just for the novelty. The shakes did not seem to be hand blended, just a relatively flavorless soft serve from a mix. The only saving grace was the fries, which were battered or double fried and were tasty. All in all, it felt more like a crass, half-assed grab at the tourist dollar, and not a cozy fun burger dive. Pass.

Myself and my family have eaten here on a few occasions by far the service was the worst I ever had my daughter was cutting her jalapeño poppers on a napkin because we had no plate, we got there at 9:05 they close at 10:00 we completely felt as if we were bothering them I asked to get another root beer they took my cup which was still half full, not a complainer but I just felt this needed to be shared my daughter found a hair in her food and they argued with us I would like to add a minus in front of the 1star I think 1 star is a compliment. I'm not hiding behind a computer screen if you truly care about your restaurant please feel free to email me your number we can talk about the lousy service we received. This was just the begining too there was more if your interested

I was just here for a burger and a beer. I heard such great things about this place but after my experience today I'll probably never come back. First off, the service was barely mediocre. Our server came over twice. Once, to take our drink and food order and second to deliver the food. We had to ask a different server for water and refills on our drinks. This server infact replied "I wish I smoked cigarettes so I could take a break (which is where our current server was). My boyfriend and I both ordered the cajun burger. The only thing saving this place from a 1 star are the french fries. However, my burger was doused with salt and seasoning - to the point it was coated in the stuff and I couldn't finish it. Lastly, the women's restroom had no locks on the bathroom doors, out of toilet paper in one stall, and completely out of paper towels. Is it just me or is it really dark inside the place? Not a big fan of the decor and dark carpeting. It feels dirty to me. All I could think about is how this place should be on Restaurant Impossible; where is Robert Irvine when you need him?! I think this place is best to go to after being on the mountain all day and you are craving salt with a hint of poor service.

Food is "ok" until you get home and several hours later you have food poisoning. Went there with my husband and his family. I ordered the chicken Caesar salad, hubby got French dip and our son shared with us. My Caesar salad was swimming in dressing, and the croutons was what made up about 1/2 the salad. The chicken breast was fairly dry. The French dip wasn't anything special, but certainly edible. Ate at approx 3 pm on Sunday, and stomach aches, cramps started around 9. We were all miserable throughout the evening all the way through wee hours of the morning. This isn't the first time I have gotten ill from their food. They wipe their tables down with dirty rags that stay inside a bucket of either freezing cold, or burning hot water-- I know this because I worked there 10 years ago. Do yourself a favor and save yourself the gut ache. Or perhaps just get a milkshake? They are pretty good, and haven't got sick from one, yet...

Very hungry after a long day hiking through the spring snow we decided to stop here. It seems like everyone else had the same idea. While we waited about 15 minutes for our table we sat outside and enjoyed the sun. Once we were seated we ordered our giant beers. The menu had about fifty items on it, most of which were various ways you could order your burger. It was printed on newspaper which I thought was pretty cool. We ordered our sandwiches and they came out pretty good. They were nothing extra special but we were definitely full afterwards. The money all over the ceiling was neat. The decorations were good conversation starters. The waitresses were friendly.

Very average burger at this roadside joint. Our server claimed their burgers were in the Top 10 of US burgers but I have a feeling the list only exists in his head. It was mediocre at best. The rings were pretty decent but their house Ranch tasted like a bland imitation of my favorite sauce. Oh and skip the bathroom - not nice, not nice at all.

They have great homemade milk shakes that are made to share because they are huge! I had the Turkey French Dip that was amazing.. so yummy and came with a different kind of aju sipping sauce ( it was kinda like chicken broth but super yummy). THey have some yummy cheese fries as well :)

HUGE burger menu. Kids burgers were disgusting; the meat look and tasted like school cafeteria meat. My husbands burger was "just ok". I had a salad and the chicken tasted like it came from a can. Lots of people around us were drinking milkshakes - maybe that is the best thing on the menu. Blek!

After shredding the mountain nothing says you've earned a meal like a stop at Calamity Jane's!! Burgers are their claim to fame along with the curling littered with a collage of bills! But don't be fooled... If you don't order a milkshake you are doing yourself a disservice! There are plenty to choose from an they welcome you concocting your own. In addition to the shakes my most recent discovery is the Turkey Dip! Although the dip is a bit salty it is worth overlooking and dunking into! Above all the staff is the best and everyone is welcoming, patient & willing to help!

Went here after a hike at Mt hood and boy I was so hungry I could eat a horse and its entire horse family. They delivered my needy request with a giant burger full of protein. I had the bonanza burger and it had egg, ham, bacon and more on the burger. It wasn't the best tasting burger of all time but it was pretty good and wasn't overpriced. The fries were a little greasy for me but besides that I liked them. The food to price ratio was probably only worth three stars. However I loved their quirky atmosphere and they were also really friendly. Therefore I would probably go back again and I think it deserves 4 stars for a $10 meal restaurant.
