WHAT IT IS: Conveyor belt "sushi" joint. Clean. Simple, modern design. Polite, helpful service. Convenient. Inexpensive. WHAT IT IS NOT: Legitimate sushi. Expensive (unless you eat like a beast). Amazing. Life changing. I would take reviews such as this w/ a grain of salt...... "As a japanese national, it is truly sad to see that people think this is "sushi". Folks, this is not sushi. This is a prime example of of non japanese people trying to make something that remotely resembling sushi and degrading our culture". As a japanese nat-..... Sorry, a Japanese national, your first clue that this place wasn't "legit" would have been the $1.75 plates advertised in the window. I'm confident that your "culture" will not only survive the onslaught of cheap "sushi" joints, but will continue to thrive and bring us amazing culinary delights. You need only to look to Mexico to be assured of this, as they have survived the all out war perpetrated by The likes of Taco Hell, Taco del Barf, and numerous other villainous corporate culinary pirates seeking to destroy our friends to the South. Context people, context.

It's not top quality sushi by any means. Its conveyor belt sushi for $1.75/plate. You can't beat that. Service was quick and friendly and what they didn't have on the belt was kindly offered to be made.

If you are looking for a decently priced sushi track in Salem, this is a good spot to hit. I wouldn't say that their food is super high quality, but for a track, the food is fresh and warm (when appropriate), and doesn't taste like it's been sitting out for too long. They keep their track well stocked so you aren't constantly ordering the plates you want. O'Sushi is a great little meet up spot for some quick, cheap(er) sushi with friends.

Really rude server. And just a regular sushi bar in the area nothing special. I won't comeback again for sure.

Great place! Right around the corner from work, and can get in and out in my 30 minute lunch break with plenty of time to spare! The staff are extremely nice, one in particular is always so very welcoming, and recognizes me right away. I wish I had her name! The sushi is great. The only downfall, and the reason I give it 4 stars is because the variety. I've been there a lot, and I have seen it on busy days and slow days. No matter what, the variety isn't there. And a lot of them are heavily covered in sauce, so it's hard to tell what's what. I've had a couple plates I didn't care for. I just wish there was more to choose from. Anyway, love the place! Staff! Atmosphere! And the Philadelphia roll. ;) xo

We stumbled into this place driving through Salem and we are so lucky to have done so! It has an awesome laid back atmosphere and the tables are right by the belt. Our server was sweet and helpful to us newcomers and got us our drinks ASAP. The place was clean, friendly, and very affordable for decent sushi ($1.75). They kept the basics on the belt and had they pulled out the more interesting ones as more people came in.

Came here while visiting a friend and when I heard of 1.25 dollar sushi I was all for it! Luckily we went when it wasn't that busy. When we ordered, 3 spicy ahi, we thought they would freshly make it, like how most sushi places with a belt do. No! She just took it off the belt and handed it to us. Who knows how long that sushi was on the belt? The sushi was decent. Nothing to overly rave of. But if you're looking to get your sushi fix at a good price come here.

I like this place for Salem Sushi. For a 1.75 a plate don't expect Grade A sushi. I always order a few plates off the menu and they are quick to make it and bring it out. It more value sushi place than a quality one, but have been here over and over.

I went here for the first time today and let me say i was completely impressed. I started off with a California roll topped with salmon, shrimp & avocado it was great definitely better than most California rolls i have had in the past. My second plate was a shrimp tempura roll it had a combination of teriyaki and the house sauce which was a pretty good combo. My third roll and my favorite was a shrimp tempura roll topped with avocado, sweet and sour sauce & peanuts this was a very sweet roll very good the best roll i had today. And my last and final roll was something that i had no idea what it was and it looked good so i tried it but i wasn't that pleased, it was a darker looking fish with something that i think was cream cheese? I did not like the flavor but then again I'm not gonna like everything. I ate this with ginger, wasabi and soy sauce on the side which makes a huge difference. I ended up liking 3 of the 4 plates i got which is pretty good considering i tried sushi i had never tried before. All the food was fresh and the cook was putting out fresh rolls every 2-3 minutes. Waitress / Greeter was very friendly. Soda only includes one refill but that was more then enough. Would recommend this to someone trying sushi for the first time or someone who wants a quick bite to eat downtown!

Been here several times since they opened. It's exactly what I'd expect from a conveyor belt sushi place in Salem. Plates are fresh and tasty. Price is right. Staff if attentive enough. And, if you don't see what you want, they'll gladly make it for you. This is not high-end sushi. (Of all the sushi places I've been, I've never seen a plate-sushi joint with high-end food.) it's a great place for a quick lunch, casual date, or a general sushi fix. Love the decor!

This place isn't for me. Yeah, it is conveyor belt sushi, but they can do better. I really hope they stick around, we need another sushi place downtown. I'd like to see them step up the quality. I don't mind paying for quality. I don't want to get sick. I felt like much of the items were prefab and they just heated it up. ***UPDATE*** So I upgraded this restaurant from a 2 star to a 3 star. The food is better.

It's as good as it gets for a sushi go round in Salem. Friendly staff and fast service. There specialty rolls are 8-9pc $8 each, much fancier fixings and very good quality. The restaurant is new so it has a nice modern feel a bit on the small side, but its has fast turn over since you can grab plates off the belt and start eating right away. $1.75 for all belt sushi.

    (5)
  • Racheal P.

I thought that the conveyor belt style was interesting and was able to provide you with several different options for sushi. The price of each small place was $1.75 each, which was great. However, some of the plates I had weren't that great while some were good. The experience would have been better if they labeled each plate, because some are hard to differentiate, especially if they have sauces on top you can't distinguish the fish type. I do have to say I had a piece of chocolate cake and it was very good. But the sushi was mediocre and not as fresh as I had hoped. But I guess you get what you pay for.

This place is just around the corner from Fuji and offers a decent alternative. Overall Fuji wins at taste, but the prices at O Sushi can't be beat. It's sort of a quick lunch verse sit-down dinner comparison. The conveyor belt is convenient and cheap. The sushi on it is decent quality and certainly passable, but average. One gripe is that a few of the rolls were warm (presumably from sitting on the belt so long) enough to bother me a little. If they fixed that and added in just a bit more quality/choice I would not hesitate to up the rating. The specialty rolls were more expensive but definitely better. The spicy roll (with jalapenos on top) was hands down the spiciest sushi roll I've ever had, and that was appreciated. The service is also quick and friendly.

  • Dani G.

I am a big fan of conveyor belt sushi places, and this one is pretty good. All plates are $1.75 during the time I went, but the colored plates make me suspect that they will start segregating based on price after a while. The staff was friendly and helpful. They came by several times to make sure we had what we needed and to answer any questions about what kind of sushi was on the belt. They offered to make sushi fresh if we didn't see something that we wanted. As per the previous review, the music was Top 40 songs, which did seem a bit strange considering that many other customers were middle aged. However, it didn't bother me particularly. The food was good. Not spectacular or bad, but good. For the price, I found that the sushi tasted just fine. The fact that sodas had free refills was nice, too.

  • Bill B.

Just OK...barely. Admittedly I'm spoiled since my favorite kaiten is in Beaverton and the freshness and selection are unparalleled but this place could do better. Salmon nigiri wasn't very fresh and there was a piece of fin in my spicy salmon roll. Probably wont become a regular here.

  • Arie C.

So it's your typical conveyor belt sushi. The place is clean, the staff is very friendly, and the food is fresh. The selection is typical. They could have more variety (ie. ahi tower) ,but they do hit all the basics. One thing that I did like was that EVERYTHING was $1.75 a plate and for that price I love it! Overall the sushi places in Salem are kinda meh anyways, and I hate leaving a restaurant feeling like I over paid for the food. At O'Sushi I feel like you're getting a good deal for what you're getting. I definitely will be back.

We went here over a year ago and the place was dirty and the counter tops(eating area) was sticky. The food was only mediocre at best. We were over charged and then the guy argued with us. I would have never gone back there if I had my way. A year later we are going to dinner with some of my wife's friends and where do they want to go? You got it O'Sushi. Much to my surprise the place is clean. The food is fairly fresh. *See conveyor belt sushi. They had a great selection. It was early dinner time and the place was over half full. The belt was being reloaded with fresh rolls on a steady basis. I like raw fish so I generally don't eat it on a conveyor but when I asked for Tuna I got fresh made, decent sized pieces. Mind you this is not a fine dining experience but I have been to many worse sushi places. I will definitely go back. Oh and they had techno music on while we were there.

I wanted two things when I walked in here. Cheap food and something that vaguely tasted like sushi. I got both. The sushi's okay but don't have high expectations for them- if you're a traditionalist or come from a town with really, really good sushi options then you're going to be very disappointed. It's conveyor belt sushi, which is also great if you're a misanthrope or socially anxious. Virtually no human contact while you're eating and the place is never crowded. Again, it's very cheap. You'll be paying about $1.75 per plate. I tried a few samples from all over the belt- octopus, a soggy California roll with rice that almost fell apart when I grabbed at it, egg, and salmon. Wasn't the freshest- salmon tasted just a little off but at least the rolls circulate quickly and don't stay on the line for too long. Would I come here again? Maybe, if I wanted something quick and cheap. Probably wouldn't come here if I was bringing along anyone else or had someone to impress. Restaurant is a lot cleaner than I remember, which is a huge plus, and at least the staff seemed somewhat friendly.

  • Alex S.

Another terrible belt sushi in town. I think this place is marginally better than the other belt sushi place in town with some attempt to flavor the rice but not enough to earn two stars. Terrible sushi rice deserves no stars. Added to that the fish was no good. As a japanese national, it is truly sad to see that people think this is "sushi". Folks, this is not sushi. This is a prime example of non japanese people trying to make something that remotely resembles sushi and degrading our culture.

I enjoyed it. This is sushi fast food so I was not expecting momiji or Benihana. The belt moved plates that grouped in similar style foods but you can order what you want. But that was a problem because there were no pads of order sheets and it was impossible to get the waitress attention. She was busy cleaning the counters and empty plates. That was ok so I stood up walked 3 feet to the chef and ordered. No Bfd. It's fast food service. I certainly would go back. It's a great option for down town Salem.

Summery: I am a disabled person with a service dog. Today (4-23-15) this establishment attempted to refuse serviced based on my need for a service animal, I was eventually seated and given very poor service/ outright ignored due to my having a service animal. Review: Around 1pm, during the slow part of lunch, I went with a friend to eat at this establishment. Immediately upon entering we were stopped by a waitress and told that "they don't want dogs in here, ever". I proceed to state that she was a service animal, it was illegal to refuse me service based on my having her, and offered to give them an ADA law card. After leaving us standing among onlookers for five minutes while the server, whom I don't find in the wrong for doing as she was told, talked to her manager, we finally got the verdict that we could stay, because it was not busy and there where not many people there. "Even though they have the right to refuse anyone they wish", as long as we sat at the table near the end of the room, right next to the door out. After sitting down at a table too small to house both the service animal I have, and the company I was eating with, we were moved AGAIN, this time to the back of the restaurant, and then ignored us whole visit (its self serve conveyer belt sushi, but we still had waters to fill and orders we could have made) The Americans with Disabilities Act ruling on Service Animals, as seen in Title III, 36.302 Modifications in policies, practices, or procedures. Item C, Parts 1 - 7 A person with a disability cannot be asked to remove his service animal from the premises unless: (1) the dog is out of control and the handler does not take effective action to control it or (2) the dog is not housebroken. When there is a legitimate reason to ask that a service animal be removed, staff must offer the person with the disability the opportunity to obtain goods or services without the animal's presence. Establishments that sell or prepare food must allow service animals in public areas even if state or local health codes prohibit animals on the premises. People with disabilities who use service animals cannot be isolated from other patrons, treated less favorably than other patrons, or charged fees that are not charged to other patrons without animals. In addition, if a business requires a deposit or fee to be paid by patrons with pets, it must waive the charge for service animals. It is upsetting that this establishment, which has so many favorable reviews, took it upon themselves to challenge and break the law and create a hostile experiences for myself and the clients who had to witness the exchange while doing so. I hope other disabled persons who need service animals see this review and know that this restaurant has discriminated against peoples with special needs, and had no qualms about doing so.

Not a bad place for lunch. Prices are reasonable. The portion sizes are nice. Not a huge selection of fresh fish items at lunch. My 6 year old LOVED it.
