The Masterpiece pizza is what we always order and have yet to taste a better pie in Salem! We love the old-school atmosphere and the fact that this is a small locally owned business. Our waitress is often a very sweet lady who has worked at Michelangelo's for years. As a bonus, the restaurant is very close to big multiplex theater. Pizza and a movie...perfect!

As someone who's lived in the east and midwest, to me the Salem/Keizer area is a barren wasteland when it comes to good pizza. I keep trying places to disprove this. So far with not much luck. I had hope for Michelangelo's because it looks dated enough that you know it's been around for awhile and I've found some cool Italian family restaurants with great food that just aren't fancy or trendy. Unfortunately the pizza was kind of blah as the sauce didn't have a ton of flavor. Honestly it reminded me of Round Table Pizza and that's not a compliment. Their pasta was disappointingly pedestrian as the sauce was too bland. Garlic bread was not very toasted and not very garlic-y. Not a bad little salad bar, though. If you are in the area around the south part of Lancaster and are looking for non-chain Italian Geppetto's is probably a better option. Tip: there is usually no waitstaff before 5:00 p.m. for dinner dining, so if you're eating early order at the counter by the front door and seat yourself in the area to the right next to the lounge.

It feels like a family run business, the staff is always nice. The building and decor are a little outdated and the prices are a little higher than I'd like but the pizza is worth it.

My love for old school spots never ends and while Michelangelo's would normally fit the bill, I can't help but be disappointed with practically everything I've tried here. This place has been around forever and while I want to support businesses especially with this kind of tenure, there seems to be a lot left to be desired. Starting off with the pasta, it was my childhood love of spaghetti that brought me here the first time around. I opted for a classic spaghetti in meat sauce with a side of meatballs, but it was less than spectacular. The sauce and meatballs just tasted bland, almost like it was unseasoned but the pasta itself was not as al dente as I would've preferred. All good, clearly I made the wrong choice. At the request of a friend who vouched for the joint, I opted for fettuccine in their signature alfredo sauce. Buttery to the max, it was a tad more clumpy than it was creamy. No matter, we also ordered some bowtie in pesto, which was easily the most edible of the bunch. Pesto is most certainly the way to go on the saucey end. Then there was the pizza. I love thin crust as much anyone, but our large pepperoni was just lacking in presentation and the sauce was again lackluster. There was a part of me hoping that this would be consistent with the other Oregon Style Pizza spots in the city, but dare I say the pizza was more disappointing than the pasta entrees. Service can be hit or miss and make sure you know what to order before approaching the counter. One positive is their prices have remained reasonable over the years but that hardly makes up for the string of subpar experiences.

To me, they have the best pizzas in town. Not too crispy, not too doughy, and never greasy. And with just enough sauce to compliment whatever toppings you feel like having. When I come here I always get a pizza, and I almost always sit in the bar area. I've had their salad bar, which is ok, enough to make a hearty, colorful salad. They have a small but good selection of beers on tap, and the cocktail drinks are well poured. I can't speak to the other menu items but I've never been disappointed with their pizzas.

I've only had their pizza but I have been going there for many years and it is always good and it is always the same very consistent and the pizza is not greasy which is a big plus for me I like Michaelangelo's pizza and the service is always very good

If I could give this place a big fat ZERO I would. The food tasted soo old! For the price they charge things should be fresh! Even the salad bar has nothing but old brown lettuce frozen peas! I mean im shocked at all the cars I see there sometimes. Its a ridiculous price for horrible food! if you're looking for Italian food other than Olive Garden, do not go here, you are better off going to Geppetto's by Home Town Buffet. They are about the same price with waaaay better food and service. Honestly why is this place still open?! Anyone rating this place over 1star is extremely confused and does not know quality food. Chef Gordon Ramsey would be disgusted

Been going here for many years. Not a fancy place at all and if you're not a regular, the service can be spotty. Also, some things on the menu are much better than others. We love their calzone and I love their pizza. The atmosphere in the bar is much better than ther estaurant. Prices very reasonable and as long as you know what to order, this is a good solid place to eat.

We got lunch specials...lazagna and a calzone along with an order of mozzarella sticks and wings. The price was good, the garlic bread they both came with was great!! The mozzarella sticks were REAL!! Which was different, but refreshing!! The staff was friendly, we will most likely be back and it's close to home so it wouldn't be a bad walk either...

So Michelangelo's pizza crust isn't quite as thin and crispy as Chuck B. led me to believe, but that's not a bad thing. I'm all for crusts that are similar, but unique in their own way, as it just gives me more options when I'm craiving pizza. As a die-hard Padingtons and Walerys fan, I can't claim that this joint is about to beat either of them. What I can claim, however, is that there is a new contender in the pursuit of my thin crust loving heart. But still, it's different. Like the above mentioned main favorites, M's boasts a cornmeal crust. The sauce is tasty, too, and not too heavily applied (I like that). Prices were comparible as well (except that M's offers individual size pizzas all day, every day, unlike P's). What really caught my attention was the extra "doughiness" or chewiness of the crust. Just a little more to munch on than my main lovers--and I liked that! While it doesn't have a the super crunch that I've come to love, it certainly gave me something to think about. The service at the counter could have been a bit better. The guy seemed to be really annoyed that we had come in at all. The fact that we were standing there reading the menu and discussing options seemed to have annoyed him further. His mood really seemed to improve when another employee showed up--so maybe he was just bored and lonely???

This is like....a throw-back to the 70's pizzaria. Or at the very least, what I expect a 70's Pizzaria would be like. I wasn't super impressed...but I wasn't necessarily unhappy either. The front entrance is, sadly, a little confusing. I thought perhaps you ordered at the counter that was front and center upon entrance, and then moved on to the dining area. But this is where I ran into my first of several impressions of the joint. I watched several employees walk by behind the counter, back and forth, to and fro, seeing me standing there with a dumb expression on my face (i.e. default look) and said nothing to me. Not a word. Not a hello, not a "Are you ready?" Not even a "Just one moment." Finally, an older woman approached me and directed me to the eating area. Which was...nostalgic. I took a seat and was immediately unimpressed with the cleanliness of the table. I had to wipe it and the seat off myself with the provided napkins, and was still left with a somewhat sticky surface. Service was very slow. It took a while to get the waitresses attention, but when I did, she was super sweet. I immediately asked about soda refills and was told that they do not, repeat, do NOT, offer free soda refills. BOOOOOOO! For a pizza joint, this will automatically ding them in my book. I feel the same way about Walery's, JC's Pizza, and Paddingtons. We're not living in the eighties, we shouldn't have to go to a soda bar, just get the damn fountain already! Enough sidetrack. Not wanting to trust the waitresses' "I usually get refills anyways..." I opted for a beer. It came out as, well, a beer. Not particularly cold, but it was what I ordered. I was very impressed with the topping selections for their pizzas, though. I choose a small pizza with sausage, pepperoni, and cheddar cheese. I also ordered some garlic bread. When the food arrived, it was pretty good, all in all. The garlic bread was tasty and the pizza was pretty good. Typical Oregon Style pizza, cracker-like crust, bubbly top, toppings out to the edges. A good amount of toppings, all very delicious. Service was continuously slow, and I had to actually flag the woman down to take my credit card, despite it sitting on the edge of the table for a good fifteen minutes. Very slow service and no soda refills mean that I won't come back here voluntarily, but I would not be put out going here if someone else wanted to go. Therefore, it gets two stars. Food was pretty good though. I might consider take-out, if I lived closer.

I've been here twice now, and both times I've been impressed. The place is a bit dreary and old fashioned, yet the food is great! The first time we were there my boyfriend and I ordered pasta dishes - Spaghetti and Lasagna, and we loved both! The spaghetti sauce makes it great, and the Lasagna has a great amount of cheese and meat, super yummy! As we were eating we noticed the pizza going to the table next to us, and it looked so good we had to order one (hey, left-overs are great, right?). We weren't disappointed- great pizza, lots of toppings and cheese. I feel like we have found a hidden gem, this place is great!

Good place to go for lunch. Had the lasagna with garlic bread. It was pretty good! Will have to go back and try the pizza later on in the week. The location was clean, the staff was friendly, and it wasn't crowded which made for a quick lunch.

The previous review (5 star) is for pizza. This is for their pasta plates. Came in, price seemed decent, atmosphere was bearable, but certainly not all that amazing. Ordered some ravioli and some alfreo on linguini. The alfredo was seasoned with horribly cheap garlic salt, and when we paid extra for fresh garlic, they just minced some and threw it in. Obviously not the best application of garlic, infact barely an application at all. The sauce on the ravioli was horrible. You could taste they used way too much tomato paste, and it pretty much tasted like it was served directly from the can. No flavor, no spice, nothing. It also was ungodly sweet... not very legitimate. I ordered a greyhound from the bar, which is just a basic grapefruit vodka. While they didn't do a horrible job on this it was some mighty cheap grapefruit. Still though, standard bar affair so no ill review there. I was going to give the place two stars, but as the food settled I started to feel worse and worse. I gotta say the food was HORRIBLE, and it got even worse as it sat in your stomach. It's unfortunate too really, as the person taking me there used to go and love the place, and was embarrassed that she'd taken me to eat there. We later hung out with her mom, who also attested to eating quality meals there prior to our low quality experience. I can't speak to the quality of the pizza, I can however say that the pasta plates are best avoided unless you feel like being let down, and feeling ill afterwards from poorly concocted food.

Food was above average Italian food. Not the best I've ever had but better than I was expecting from this well established mom and pop restaurant. Would have probably been a 4 star but the service was a bit off. It might have been a bad night so I'll try them again sometime soon and see how it is then.

We ordered for the first time last night and we ordered to go. We ordered two Chicken Parmesan dinners, but they did not come with salads. We also ordered a pizza. I was surprised when we got home and felt I got the wrong order so I called to confirm. It was right. The chicken is not breaded, and it was unappealing, and did not resemble any Chicken Parm we've ever seen, maybe seasoned with some sprinkled parmesan? I am also accustom to the side being a spaghetti with mariner, This was served with a type of linguine noodle and alfredo sauce. We did not eat either of our dinners. The pizza was acceptable, but I would not come back here again.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.

Pizza

Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.

Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza is also the most preferred food whenever a group of friends is hanging out together. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.

Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations. Pizza gained popularity as the iconic dish in the United States in the second half of the 20th century. Whether you prefer thin or thick crust pizza, you can find a pizza of your preference at the best pizza restaurants in your city.
