Great local roster with lots of teas and coffee. These guys are completely independent and do a reasonable job with a large number of service items which certainly is superior to the Starbucks across the street (it's shameful if you go to Sbucks instead of visiting Allann Bros). The shop is huge, with ample seating. I visited on a Saturday morning pretty early and there were two people working the coffee bar. They did a great job of keeping up with the line. The espresso was pretty good and I also enjoyed a cinnamon roll and a bagel sandwich (I was hungry, alright?!) Would definitely go back if I was in the area again.

Hooked on the iced java trio if you think Dutch bros or Starbucks is good this its even better love.all the natural food choices helpful staff great seating treats and self service bar for your added flavors and excellent choice of sugars great environment for meeting friends family or business

This place has amazing espresso...sometimes. the pastries great but you can count on washing it down with a poorly made drink. They really need to educate their staff and provide a broader drink menu. I ordered a mocha, which is on their menu, and the barista didn't know how to make it....ummm what? Every time I have gone here I have had an issue ordering and I never order anything special, just straight off the menu. All of that would be forgivable if the staff was remotely nice. The last time I was there the barista would not even make eye contact with me because she was watching her children play at a table and talking to them instead of taking my order. The Nordstrom cafe is just as good, faster and friendlier

We love the Beanery and visit just about daily. The make the best Americanos. Lots stronger than Starbucks and the price is much lower. We love the staff who are always helpful and friendly.

There is little competition for coffee shops. They're still pulling the espresso levers and gave a very good selection of well priced foods. There are counters, booths and tables in addition to the best sidewalk seating aside from Brownstown in downtown. The staff are not snoody and will bring your order to you attitude free. I'm not a Starbucks hater, but I do prefer local especially when it's better.

Such a warm atmosphere, so much more welcoming than Archives down the street. Lots of booths, or a window seat for those inclined to people watching. Whether you're here for a quick coffee or a nice quiche for lunch, the Beanery is the place for you. Good Allan Bros coffee blends and a yummy chai latte.

This is easily my favorite place to go in downtown Salem for a cuppa joe or to grab a sandwich for lunch or just to read a book. I really like their coffee. The staff is attentive and friendly. The place is a little on the dull side (It could be more fun in my view). The bakery display when you enter is very visual and everything in there looks great. There is outside seating and bicycle parking which is very convenient. The decor inside is a little old fashioned for my taste but not too much of a concern I have tried several of their sandwiches and they were all fresh and delicious. Pastries were not bad either. This place is a little pricy for Salem though. Overall a great place to kill time or grab lunch. I'll definitely be coming back here

A once nice locale. This one seems to have progressively gone down hill over the last few years. It was once a great social point for Salem's downtown core, it had great service, with polite hard working staff, all of whom were doing great work. Everytime I have gone there in recent, it has however been less, and less so. The staff rarely recognize customers unless you are almost snapping a finger in their faces. The product turn around time can vary from two minutes to ten minutes after your order (depending on who is standing around chatting, or texting instead of working). Due to the utter lack of care for their work, the people there end up turning out a now very poor product, and then argue with you about the product if you do not like it, or were supplied other than what you ordered. An overhaul is in need of this venue.

Well, it's okay. That's all I can say. I usually go to the Govenor's Cup on my lunch break, but being that the Govenor's Cup was way too crowded for my liking, I resorted for here. Coffee is okay- seems a little watery though. Just got a cup of brewed coffee this time around, and it was a little pricey for black coffee. And being that it was lunch break, got myself the chicken and black bean burrito. I'm not a huge fan of burritos. This one wasn't anything special- didn't taste much different than anything I could get frozen. But it was somewhat filling, so I'll give them that. Salsa they served with it actually wasn't half bad and I would order that straight up. Guy who served me food didn't seem too friendly- pretty much just set the food down and walked away wordlessly. And didn't even hand over a napkin, which I figured was kinda weird. There is free wifi and it's fairly fast, so it was a good place to get my work done- which definitely works in the place's favor. Would I make a trip to come here? No. But if I need a quick coffee fix and my usual places aren't working out, then this isn't a bad Plan B.

Great place. Good coffee. Relaxing. Wifi works. Food is good. Nothing outstanding, nothing negative. Good food, coffee, service and wifi. Meets my needs. Place is busy. People seem to love it.

Today I went into the Beanery for the first time and had the most delightful experience. I had a fantastic barista named Scott and he was so friendly and personable. I wish more baristas around town were as customer oriented instead of just looking for a tip. Needless to say I will definitely be going back to the Beanery to see that friendly barista.

Not sure why anyone likes this coffee or how this company has made it this far. Almost as bad as Starbuck's Pike's Place blend.

I tried this place for the first time today and I thought that the coffee was really good and the baristas were friendly. I would be interested in trying out some food for breakfast or lunch in the future since their food items looked very good. They also have a very nice atmosphere.

I've been going to the Beanery for years. The coffee is very good for Salem definitely in the top 3. The baristas actually know how to pull a shot of espresso and they don't screw up my order. The sweet beanery is the most wonderful drink ever invented I don't think I will ever stop drinking them. Atmosphere is nice and mellow with cozy lamps on each table. There is free wifi and I've never been bugged for using a table for hours while I type away. All in all a very nice coffee shop.

Decided to try The Beanery over Starbucks across the street for a change. However now I'm at Starbucks writing about the horrible experience I just had at The Beanery. I had a simple order, a steamer and a breakfast sandwich. Twenty minutes have gone by, and I'm sitting there holding my cold steamer and still waiting for my breakfast sandwich. Orders are being taken, and called out for customers to pick up their food. I finally get up to check and see if they called out my order and I missed it. When I got to the front, the lady behind the register looked at me and told me to sit back down, my order will be done in a few. Really? A few? On top of the twenty minutes I've already waited? For a breakfast sandwich? I walked back to the table, and wait another 5 minutes. Still no sandwich, lady is processing other orders and filling them. I go up and request a refund. She giggles and asked why. Really? Do you think your customer service is funny? And she stomps away to grab her manager. I told her manager what was going on, and (referring to the comment about me having to sit down) she had the audacity to tell me that they like to provide a restaurant experience by bringing food out to the tables. Really? Then why has every food order been placed on the counter and called out? Neither one of the ladies left the area behind the counter the entire time I was sitting there. The girl Laila was standing behind the manager smiling and giggling while she was pretending to keep her self busy. Absolutely horrible. She manager gave me my refund, and I left. I will never go back here again.

I ventured back to The Beanery as part of National Pi Day on March 14. Having loved the panini and chowder last time, I knew I wanted to try the quiche and pie next. The Beanery has about five different types of quiche or frittatas, all but one being vegetarian. So what do you think a meat-loving panda got? Bacon, basil, and tomato frittata! Come on, there's bacon! Meat crack! The bacon doesn't overpower everything here. The savory, custard-like texture made it a doubly peaceful moment. Staying consistent with National Pi Day, I also picked up a slice of sugar-free mixed berry pie. It's about moderation on the sweet stuff anyway. See? I don't need sugar to be happy! A fairly thick layer of filling here, complete with flaky pie crust. Balanced flavors like doing the Karate Kid crane posture on the top of the pole or the edge of a boat. I got it for takeout, and I wouldn't be eating it for another couple of hours, but the employees heated up my food anyway. Good to know if you're dining in; you'll get a warm, comforting meal. On this visit, I could also get a slight discount off any coffee or tea when getting that mixed berry pie. Allann Brothers Coffee featured an organic coffee from Nicaragua. Curious panda sees shiny object! Must have! The coffee is about medium-high in strength, smooth, with full body. I detected exotic spice influences on the back end, just pleasing flavor. Very good, fellas. Now that I have a coffee maker, I'll really have to restrain myself from buying every single ground coffee product off the shelf. The Beanery continues to get my stamp of approval! It's impressing me more and more each time!

The food and coffee are good and the price is right. They had a handful of very affordable lunch specials and I was able to get an entree, a pastry, and a coffee for around 7 dollars. The atmosphere is nice, if slightly noisy at times. The staff seem somewhat disorganized, but I'm being nitpicky. Overall, it is a budget friendly and good quality coffee shop.

They have everything. The list as follows: Good lattes. Decent foam, strong shots, good temperature. My wife says it was the best Vanilla Soy latte she has had on our 4,000 mile tour. Very nice interior. Booths, tables and chairs, stools, and outdoor seating. Fast internet. Breakfast and afternoon menu, all food in the case is half off after 8pm. A huge assortment of food...and I mean huge for a coffee shop. One of the best features. High quality, very reasonably priced, and large variety. Examples: Apple pie with cranberry's and roasted walnuts 5 kinds of quiche, large variety of sandwiches on large varieties of bread. They use the Panini machine heavily. 3 kinds of brownies, 6 different types of sprinkle powder flavoring near the "sugar and cream" bar, 3 kinds of simple syrup, the list is huge and attention to detail is great. Price can't be beat. $2.95 for a chicken quesadilla with roasted chilies, onions, shredded chicken, and peppers, chips, salsa, and sour cream. Are you kidding me? It was great and piping hot! Fresh cinnamon coffee cake and coffee for $3.95. Can't say enough. All staff members smiled.

We had lunch at the Beanery yesterday and have been grossed out ever since. The quiche was good and the stuffed potato was okay but not hot. We ordered a cup of clam chowder and were told that it was thick which we thought would be ok because it is not supposed to be watery. When it was brought out it was the consistency of bread pudding. A cup of hard potatoes and no liquid and looked like it had been warmed up many times. Yuck. While eating we watched a staff member redo the display case where the sandwiches are displayed. No gloves while handling the food, the kale used for decor was long past dead and she stuck the little sign holder in sandwiches that were going to be sold - god knows the last time that was cleaned. The cake with blueberries on top - the blueberries had turned black - yuck. Who would buy that. I undertand the coffee is good here but the cleanliness is not. Someone needs to get off their butt and train staff on customer service and cleanliness.

This is the best espresso I've had in Salem, which really doesn't say all that much. I really feel bad for the people of Salem, they need a good coffee shop. The first time I came here I ordered a latte and the milk was so hot I couldn't even touch the cup. When I asked the barista to remake it (burnt milk is gross) she got frustrated with me. I tried to explain how it ruins the drink, but she didn't entertain me. The second time I came here I ordered a cap, which sadly the person making drinks didn't even know what it was. She served up a double shot of espresso with no milk and no foam. That's not a cappuccino. I then proceeded to train her on how to make one. Ya know, 1/3 espresso, 1/3 milk, and 1/3 foam. Pretty sad. Maybe I'm just an annoying customer (probably), but I think if you don't like espresso or don't know what good espresso tastes/looks like you probably shouldn't be a barista. I ordered a pastry, which was really good. The atmosphere is nice with plenty of seating. The wifi is consistent and fast. Bathrooms were clean. Now, if they could just get the drinks right they'd really be on to something.

I have been here many times and have never been disappointed with the service or coffee. Today, I decided to step it up and even get some food. I ordered the chicken quesadilla along with my nonfat hazelnut latte (I know, those things don't really go together). I wasn't expecting much since they are obviously more of a coffee place. But the quesadilla was sooo good. It was pretty cheap and there was a lot of food, along with chips. My latte was also fantastic. Finally, someone in Salem who can pull a shot correctly :) I will most definitely be back.

I tried the biscuits and gravy here last week a couple of times and was unimpressed. They are big enough, that's for sure. Filling. But I'm not too sure how fresh they are. The biscuits seemed a little "flat" and was super hot in the middle, leaving me to believe that they are just heating these up in the microwave. I always look at the food in the display case and see it sitting there everyday. Lots of it, the same food that I saw the previous day. Is that whats going on with my B&G?

Went here this past July as an alternative to Dutch Bros. (which is much closer to my brother's new house (where we were visiting)). Yelp pointed me the way. The place was quite busy when I went (Sunday morning?). After being acknowledged and greeted in a barely civil manner by the young lady at the counter, I placed my order. I ordered quite the spread (coffee and treats for four), and the bill came out to a pretty high amount. But the baked goods are high quality and the coffee had great reviews, so I didn't have a problem paying for it. I pay my bill. The counter lady apprently doesn't like getting money from customers either. I'm a little put off, but coffee and baked goods can cure all manners of sin. I get home (about 15-20 minutes away), open my bags of goodies, pass out the coffees and dig in. The baked goods are truly scrumptious--kudos to them. As we are sorting everything out, I realize that I didn't get one of the items I ordered. I'm generally not too worried about not getting everything I order and I particularly understand if I order a ton of stuff, if something slips through the cracks. So I check my receipt just to make sure I didn't pay for the item I didn't get. Lo and behold, there it is (and the baked goods aren't cheap there). So they give me not at all friendly service, don't give me everything that I order and then charge me for goodies they neglected to give to me. The only thing that keeps this from two stars is the quality of the coffee and amazing bakery items. Service (both quality and accuracy) were absolute shit.

The Beanery is hands down my favorite "meet for coffee" place in town. Great strong coffee and tasty paninis. The gourmet grilled cheese panini is especially good. Great coffee and service, friendly people and always clean.

I like the way The Beanery is set up; comfortable inside and tables outside for smokers. It always looks welcoming. The food simple and usually good. So, why the 2 stars? Simple and I hope these people are paying attention; after having breakfast, I went to the counter for a refill on a mug of coffee. The barista wanted to charge me 1.30. For a refill??? I politely refused and explained you can go to Denny's and they'll give you refills until you pass away. The Beanery and Denny's coffee are not much different. I will not go back. Ever. From here on, I'm trying the shop around the corner. Business 101 you fools; don't piss off the people who pay your check.

Free and speedy wi-fi with yummy, cheap soy-hazelnut latte in a clean cafe staffed by friendly people. The small city of Salem does not seem like it would quench a thirst for an interesting social atmosphere, but this little coffee house was a silver lining.

I have recently discovered that the food is stale, and the staff always appears to be contagiously sick. I used to like the Beanery. The coffee is insanely bland and watery compared to even Starbucks, and the staff treats you like you're interrupting them in the middle of their teenage depression; however, they do have wi-fi (which i've never seen operational, now that I think of it), and there is ample seating. Yes, sometimes there will be an impromptu belly dancing showcase, or a local guitarist that unnecessarily blasts some little ditties through large amplifiers, but I always thought it might be the best of few options in Salem. The food selection is reasonable for a coffee shop, however, I have noticed that the items under that glass have been sitting in there for one week and running. It's no secret, because we can see it, and we can taste it. The food is not preserved well, it's stale, and it's old. The turnover for new items is so long, that the new items must be sitting in storage getting stale before they even go in the display. That's just gross. Some Advice: Keep your staff members away when they're coughing all up in that place. If you can't keep fresh food, reduce your offerings. Step your game up on the coffee you serve.

The beanery is by far my favorite coffee spot in Salem. The staff is always great. The coffee is by far the best out of the 300 coffee shops speckled around the area. My favorite place to get an americano. The food is very vegan friendly, (not that i could care) healthy (for the most part), and priced well. The selection is great too and you always get some chips and a pickle to boot with a sandwhich. The wifi is free and fast, the tables are plentiful, and the ambiance is chillax. I always go here to study and meet my friend on his break. When its nice out you can always take it outside for a great spot to people watch from. If your looking for the coffee shop in Salem take a page from my book and stop in. You won't see this place pulling a blue pepper and disappearing.

The Beanery is a nice venue with a good amount of seating, good heated food and desserts, yummy chai, and a friendly atmosphere. It's on the darker side, so while it works for business meetings - especially in location, it has a personal, homey feel.

My band and I decided to go here after a gig to get us through the next couple hours. It was about 6 and I ordered my usual Soy Chi Latte with a shot of espresso (also called a "dirty soy chi" and I must say it was pretty damn good) and I am still buzzing 6 hours later. Now that is good coffee. Charming atmosphere with lights in the windows and around the display case for food, the boysenberry pie I ordered was very nice and the crust was nice and flakey but didn't leak. And our rather large order was delivered very fast. I was satisfied :]

I went in here with my 3 year old, and my 1 year old in a stroller. First I went to the restroom, then I went to the counter to order a drink. It was a warm sunny day, so I struggled with my stroller to get back out through the heavy front doors, to sit outside. It's so dark inside, so I didn't feel like that on a nice day. I thought maybe the workers would see that I had two kids with me, and bring my cappuccino out to me. I waited a while, then realized they really were going to let it sit in there on the counter all day. Sad. So, not being able to leave my children outside by themselves, I had to bring them both back in, along with my purse, so it wouldn't get stolen, just to get my stupid drink, when they easily could have brought it out. It wasn't busy, so it's not like they had their hands so full that any extra courtesies were out of the question. No. It felt like a quiet, warm lazy day in there. So...I was really hoping the cappuccino would be good, but it was not. ): I won't go back there, because the workers were unimaginative, and seemed unhappy. Otherwise, maybe I'd go back to see what a regular cup of coffee was like, but that experience was just too depressing to go to the trouble of going back.

I've been a Beanery customer for 22 years--the last 18 in Salem several times a week. The grub is consistent (if uninspiring--kind of like McMenamins), the atmosphere is comfortable, and the staff generally friendly. The espresso, however, is consistently inconsistent. Sometimes burned, sometimes with coffee grounds, always a surprise. Between the occasional really rude staff interaction and the hit-or-miss espresso, I'm finding myself more often going across the street where the likelihood of leaving pleased is higher. Sorry, Bean: the love is gone. Your failure to aspire to excellence is a let-down and I gotta hang more with your ambitious neighbor.

The coffee here was wonderful. A great mocha, extra chocolatey (like I requested), and almost unbearably hot. The mocha was cheap, the service amazingly friendly, and if I lived near Salem, I doubt I would be able to stay away for more than a couple of days at a time. A very comfortable little place with great atmosphere. Also, I don't know what you put in the water in Salem, but everyone at this coffee house, customer and staff alike, were really adorable. Mmm.

I haven't sampled much of the coffee menu nor any of the food here, but The Beanery has been giving me exactly what I've needed the past few days: free wifi, plenty of workspace, and good coffee. Plus, they serve for-here drinks in big solid mugs and recycle all of their disposable cups. Just now I was in the mood for a shake and the waitress recommend the chai flavor with almost fanatical enthusiasm, and it did not disappoint! It was kind of reminiscent of pumpkin pie in drink form (isn't that how they make chai?) and it rocked my world, as promised. I'll come back here frequently.

The Beanery is where I grew up... almost literally! I remember walking with my dad to the old shop on Court Street, sitting at a sidewalk table sipping a Koala soda. (Oh yeah, remember Koala?) In high school, meeting my friends for study groups. Listening to friends perform from a tiny stage in the back corner. Years later, the friendly baristas that called my son "the Bean-ette" since he was one of the smallest regulars! Sadly, that original location was closed when the building was torn down to house the transit center that now dominates the entire city block. The Beanery moved into the former location of a bagel shop. For a while everyone wondered, "will they make it?" They have! After limping along for years in a location that was cramped and disorganized, followed by a brief closure... the Beanery of Salem really has come of age again. The style of the shop is similar to others in the Allann Bros family. Steaming joe is served in large mugs. Pastries and light lunch fare fill the display cases. Ginger scones are light and slightly spicy - a good way to kick off the day. Small chunks of candied ginger dot this treat. Yum! Brownies and cookies are soft, sweet, and delicious. The molasses cookies are chewy and tangy. Quiches are flavorful, and different varieties are available daily. Burritos are served warm with sour cream and salsa - these small packages pack a large punch! The remodel really makes this place special. I loved the warm booths along the side, offering a more private venue for talking and enjoying coffee with friends. On a solo trip I sat at the counter and watched the world go by on the busy downtown street. You can buy their coffee beans to enjoy at home too - my favorite varieties include "Phoenix and the Turtle" and "Bus Stop"... give them a try!

This newly remodelled downtown coffee shop is fantastic. The layout is very inviting and offers seating with table lamps--which are great for reading or studying--and other varities of seating, either at a bar or at clusters of tables. The store is very well lit and pleasant. What sets The Beanery Apart: a fantastic $.25 cup discount when you bring in your own cup and a great array of food options--ranging from the basic morning pasteries to interesting and tasty wraps and sandwhichs, to a nice fresh salad bar during lunch. The coffee is also very good. Overall, this is the best overall coffee shop in downtown Salem

Great place. Good coffee. Relaxing. Wifi works. Food is good. Nothing outstanding, nothing negative. Good food, coffee, service and wifi. Meets my needs. Place is busy. People seem to love it.

I walk into the Beanery and Shania Twain is playing in the background? Odd... So I studied for a class outside and drank a great cup of Alan Bros. coffee. Free wifi was very helpful, but the music was distracting.
