Maybe some folks aren't too familiar with traditional Thai food and are used to the sugary American version, or else their ratings are based on petty criteria, but this place rocked. I've spend a lot of time in Thailand, and the papaya salad was the best I have had in the mainland USA (one place on the Big Island of Hawaii was better, but barely). I asked for hot, and assured the waitress that I wanted it hot. They did not disappoint! We also had some summer rolls, which were pretty delicious, especially with the hot peanut style sauce they served on the side. The Pad kee mao was stellar, and again was spiced up nice and hot! Lots of nice mixed veggies, fresh noodles, and freshly fried tofu! Give this place a try if you want some authentic spicy Thai food while in central OR! Oh yeah, the family also owns Thai Cabin in Beaverton, which will be on my work lunch schedule or places to try!

This place is very new. So new that I couldn't find the telephone number anywhere and there is no website, so I had to go to the restaurant to place my order. The staff was nice and my food was ready within 15 minutes. There was no delay in the kitchen because I was the only one in the restaurant. A bit concerning at 6:00p on a weekday night, so I hope locals and tourists alike give Thai O a try. We ordered Chicken Satay, Pa Nang Curry with chicken and gave the Basil Stir Fry with beef a try. All of the sauces were creamy, but most of the food was a little on the mild side. They didn't ask me and I didn't think to specify it when I placed my order. I would guess they apply mild plus unless asked to do otherwise. I would ask them to up the standard spice level for our next order. The restaurant is bright and clean, but a little sterile. It would benefit from warming up the space with more personal and homey touches. They have a liquor license, so both beer and wine are available. If this was in Portland, my rating would be closer to three, but for Redmond, this is a very good option. ------------------- Business Update: I've submitted the phone number to Yelp, but in case it takes awhile to update the listing, it is 541-548-4883.

Enjoyed dinner here 2/17/2013. It's clean and the servers are responsive. My wife and I ordered spring rolls, tom yum soup (w/ shrimp and tofu), and panang curry w/ shrimp. The food was fresh but a bit bland. There was definitely no thai basil in the spring rolls and spring rolls without thai basil are like hamburgers without mayo, ketchup, or mustard. The texture was nice and the peanut sauce was tasty but I would highly recommend to the owners that they start using some thai curry. The Tom Yum soup had the solid sour flavor that comes from the keffer leaf but didn't pick up any lemon grass or thai basil flavor there. Still tasty though. The curry was tasty but it just seemed like the cook hurried the dish. The green beans were lighlty sauted or grilled and crunchy but just kind of tossed on top of the rest of the ingredients with no attempt to really incorporate it all into a coherent dish. This place has potential but the guys in the kitchen need to spend some time honing their skills.

I am from southern california, but was in town for a school rotation. I understand that good Thai restaurants should not be expected in such a small town. I also understand finding great Thai food is difficult for me because I spent several months in Thailand. However, setting aside the fact that the food was very disappointing, my tofu curry had a piece of chicken in it!!!! I would at least expect my food to be the way I order it......with no meat present. However, it is a clean restaurant, and if you do not have the bias I do, I suggest that you try it.

Disappointing! I was really craving Thai food. Decided on the pad Thai since it was on special. It was very sweet, no spice at all, no peanuts & the tofu was slimy. I must have been invisible while I was there too because no one came to check on me, no offers to refill my empty Pepsi, no offer of a box for my leftovers & no offers for dessert! I had to ask for my check. Needless to say, I won't be back. Luckily I live in Portland where I can get good Thai food and good service!

I write this review with a grain of salt. I am a fan because this might be the only Thai restaurant in Redmond, OR. We were staying at the Eagle Crest Lodge and needed take out to satify a broad range of tastes and this place fit the bill. Everything was tasty, the servings were decent portions and like another reviewer mentioned, the papaya salad is spot on. The spicy is indeed spicy. I can't speak for the ambiance since we only did take out, but this is a restaurant that shines in a desert of Americana. Or something like that.

I'm always reluctant to back off stars for a local restaurant. But after eating here additional times, including today, the overall package is more 3 than 4 star worthy . Each time the restaurant has been spartan for decor But sparkling clean. Each time the sound system offers up old chestnuts from performers of times past like Doris Day and Connie Francis and Neal Sedaka. With volume pleasantly low. Each time the server has been pleasant and efficient. But each time the service is on the slower side because he or she is spread too thin across too many tables. Each time the menu has fair prices for Thai classics in generous portions. But each time the food is pretty good but not stellar, maybe lacking finesse for seasoning (as in too restrained) and sauces (as in too heavily applied). Whoever "they" are say consistency is key for restaurants. Thai O is consistently AOK. When we have a hankering for Thai food that simply won't wait for a trip to Portland, Thai O is where we think to go for the best Thai food available in the Bend area. If you set your expectations for a 3 star experience you should be AOK in choosing Thai O too. But if you are expecting 4 star, you may be disappointed. In the end, satisfaction is about expectations and reality being in synch.

Good service and good food. Never disappointed. We stop by for lunch and always have leftovers and plenty of time to get back.

Disappointing service and food quality. It did seem clean, though. In the future I will make the drive to Bend for Thai food.

Thai food places seem to come and go, it can be hard to find a pad thai that has a sauce that I like. This is one of the better places to go. A bit pricey but a lot of food comes on the plate.

Had beef pad see ew, coconut soup, and tofu green curry for dinner. The beef was awful, but everthing else was decent.

The food was good, but far from the best Thai food I've ever had. My biggest complaint is the service; the server was not very friendly or attentive. The price was also to high for what you get.

Was out here a few weeks for work. Normally I would rate this place 3.5 or 4 stars, but since this place is in Central Oregon (Redmond/Prineville) where variety and food choices other than American are pretty pathetic, I'm giving it 5 stars. For dinner I thought the curries, pad thai, and tom yom soup all tasted good but it could have been due to the face that I had 2 weeks of pizza, burgers, sandwiches, steaks and salty, sauce-drenched Americanized Chinese food. Curry portions were average but the pad thai, fried rice and other dish amounts were pretty huge. I'm just sorry that my co-workers and I didn't find this place sooner while we were there.

Low quality and bad setting they need to pick it up a lot. Food is very normal or below par

I travel alot between Oregon and SE Washington: trying a Thai place is always a risk in small cities. This place was actually average. I ordered vegetarian dishes just to be safe: Spicy Green Bean dish was yummy and Thai Fried Rice were okay. This place is good enough to try again especailly with meat dishes. If I compare this place to Thai places in Portland it's okay.. but if I compare this place to Central Oregon it's probably the Top 3 between Bend, Redmond and Eastern Oregon. The service was good nice employees, the music (classical) was relaxing.

Moving into the area we were in search for a nearby Thai restaurant. We happened to be at the Fred Meyers and drove around to see what else was there. This lovely restaurant is tucked back behind FMeyers and the big Lowes... although it's in a terrible location for a restaurant OMG!!! We were seated right away, service was excellent and we can't say enough about the food! Fresh, clean, delightful! We will go back again and again. We so hope they stay in business but do think a better location would result in higher clientele for them.

This is a great place their chicken pad thai is so good I have had it twice now. I will differently go back and bring my family from Portland to this place

This place is a bit hard to find but so worth it! Best Thai food I've had in a long time!! Very consistent and everything we have tried on the menu so far is amazing! Especially the pineapple fried rice! It's made with yellow curry sauce so it has a very unique flavor and seems to be gluten free! I have a lot of food allergies so finding this place was such a relief! They are good about altering your order to adjust for food allergies and such. Can't say enough good things about this place! Prices are very affordable too! We always order dinner and then a couple entrees to go for lunch the next day- makes great leftovers!

Looking for a Thai restaurant in Redmond/Madras area on the way home to Portland and found this place on Yelp. Food was very good and service was great also! The restaurant was in a convenient location and clean. Would definitely come back!

Just had dinner here. Food quality was A-1. Combination appetizer was a good choice with little bid of everything. Dishes were perfectly spiced and had fantastic flavor. I would be going here again when in town.

Fast service, fresh produce, freshly prepared, super flavorful, great stir-fry, basil-y goodness, hot soups, and rich curries. Ask for their 3-chili condiment tray for additional heat. Immaculate restaurant. Nicely decorated and very clean. We'll be returning often!

Damn good food... I noticed a trend of Asian food in the co. The highest rated Asian food is the worst places. If you want triple fried chicken nuggets with sweet and sour then yelp best Asian food central Oregon. Granted Thai-o is lacking the orgasmic flavor of 1 am satay and rice in Pattaya. After spending the last hour eating two legged Thai bargirl clams. but it's much more sanity then a Thai noodle shop at 1am . So if you looking for a good thai meal in co then stop in and enjoy. If you just can't be satisfied without the taste of the breaded clams from Pattaya and hair in your teeth before you eat Thai then hop on a plane.

New ownership - Before the change in ownership I ate here several times a month. I love thai food and it always did the trick. Now, I am eating here sometimes twice a week. Their food is on a whole new level and it is awesome! I can't think of a better restaurant in Redmond. I am a huge food snob and Thai food snob. So, you should trust me. Some of the stir fries have blown my mind. The Pad pet is a must! I tried the Cashew nut delight and thought it was better than the Pad pet, but I realized both are amazing and I will just keep going back and forth till the end of time. The pineapple fried rice and basil fried rice are both crazy good. Monday night is Pad Thai special ($7) and the Pad Thai is so good. I can't live without their fresh rolls. I order them every time. Now I am rambling and you can all see how obsessed I am with this place.

Green curry with chicken, spices good, one piece of chicken. Seafood green curry, spices good, three pieces of seafood. Glass of wine while waiting for order, old already gone bad. Curry needs more color such as carrots, peppers something. Recommend ??

Being from the SF area of California, we have had the chance to experience some sensational Thai food, but even in an area where there are a lot of folks from Thailand and a lot of restaurants there is also a lot of really bad or mediocre Thai. This place doesn't have a lot of warmth or charm, but I am rarely looking for that in a neighborhood place, especially in the middle of Oregon. What they did have was some very tasty, solid Thai food, the service was friendly and efficient, and it was a very good value. We started with the crab wonton, which were very crispy, but didn't have much of a cream cheese flavor that we are used to, had the drunken noodles and red curry - both very tasty, and garlic pepper stir fry, which was also good. The three of us ate our fill and still had plenty of leftovers. We left sated and smiling. The way you should always leave a good restaurant.

Great tasting food. Portion size is just right and you can have it spiced to your liking. They do take out too. Coming back for more

Simply fantastic Thai food. Well versed in Thai food, have spent lot of time throughout Thailand, and had the best in Seattle and Portland. Gracious owner Jip prepare excellent dishes, although less adventurous than some northern Thai restaurants. Take out almost weekly, . Try the Tom Kha soup, fried trout, pad see ewe, crispy chicken with basil. Love it

This is an unassuming, delightful restaurant! Marvelous food and lovely presentation. The best thing though is that it is immaculately clean.....I love this place. One unfortunate thing is that it does not have good visibility. One has to work to find it, but is worth the effort.

Pleasant lunch place. Menu reasonable, $6-8 lunches. I had Pad Thai with chicken - best I've had in awhile. Needed to add Sriracha sauce the dish wasn't very spicy. My husband had Spicy garlic stir fry with chicken. Would eat here again.

Thai food has finally come to Redmond! YAY! I moved to CO from Portland 3 years ago and my biggest complaint (besides the lack of shopping) is that there wasn't any good Thai food restaurants. I have tried all that Bend had to offer and decided it wasn't worth the 20 minute drive, so every trip to Portland I would eat at any Thai place I came across! So I was very excited when I noticed that there was a new Thai food joint on this side of the mountain and that it was in Redmond, I tried it right away and was completely impressed with the food and the service was great to top it off....although I wouldn't have complained if it was bad since I am just grateful to have it here in town:) I wouldn't say its the absolute best I have ever had, however it is clearly right up there, I have eated there 4 or 5 times and each time it was quick and delicious! I have noticed that there isn't a huge crowd, which I hope changes soon so they stay in business.... SO, eat, eat, eat there so we can help it stick around in this crappy economy!!

The waiters there are friendly, definitely a 5 star for the service. The food there is average, better than many other americanized asian restuarants. Portions are huge! Prices is cheap. On mondays you can get a Pad Thai for 5 bucks.

Hard as I might try to give these guys a break, I cannot. Here's how it pans out at Thai O; Redmond's newest Thai restaurant -- at least I think it's supposed to be Thai. Maybe Thai on the sweet side. Thai O opens in what used to be Kyoto's a slightly more popular oriental restaurant, hit no doubt by the hard economic times. In fact, it looks like the old owners just put down their knives, locked the doors and walked away, leaving everything perfectly in place for the new owners of Thai O to take over. Hopefully they dusted off the grill before they fired it up the first time. Located in the Fred Meyer shopping center, the first thing that hit me when we opened the doors was a thick cloud of grease. Okay, so maybe a lot of Thai cuisine is fried these days, but it's just not pleasant when grease leaves a noticeable film on all of the surfaces ... tables, chairs, windows. Aside from that, there is not a whole lot to offer about the decor. Let's just say, it's not pretty. And if being pretty isn't one of your dining requirements, maybe you won't mind the droning 50's music that plays in the background either. So, I thought, perhaps I'm being a bit harsh here, let's give these guys a chance. We ordered off of the appetizer menu to start ... give it a shot with the combination plate. Oh boy. Well, the spring rolls (at least I think they were spring rolls) were good and the fried (chicken) won ton's weren't bad either. But the sauces were exceedingly sweet as was the chicken fried rice we ordered a bit later. Hot chili, peanut and even the cucumber chutney-type sauce was very, very sweet. No doubt they use palm sugar, which apparently is in many Thai recipes, but never mind 'spicy' as most people would associate with Thai food these days as there was very little of that in the dishes we sampled. Even the curry chicken turned out to be bland pieces of chicken coated in mild curry spice. All of this leaves one to wonder what happened to the garlic and pounded coriander root? Where are the delectable spicy-hot curries, savory herbs, exotic spices, leaves, roots and coconut milk? What happened to the spicy aromatic combinations we have come to associate with Thai food? To be fair, we did not order every item off of the menu, so some of those elements must be in the cuisine of Thai O ... they just must be there. And, while we waited for our food to arrive a fair number of folks did pop in for take-out, so maybe there is more to Thai O than I experienced. Isn't there anything nice to say about Thai O? The beer was good, but of course it came out of a bottle. And, the wine was great, same deal. Will we go back to Thai O soon? Not likely. Can I recommend it to Yelp followers? Not likely. But you go ahead and see what you think, and if you discover that they've stepped it up a bit, send me a note and I'll give it another try. Maybe.

I tried Thai O on their first day. The staff was very nervous having new restaurant jitters and acting really confused trying to translate and interpret the orders with the kitchen. I never saw a single smile out of any of the staff. The check came 2 seconds after the meal.... (wrong). The food was very good though and Redmond has been long overdue for a Thai restaurant. Hopefully they can work out the butterflys. I had the #1 off the lunch menu. (Cashew Nut Chicken Delight) excellent flavor and perfectly cooked rice. If they can get the service details down they have the potential for a 4.5. Salute
