I went their with the family and had an amazing meal. Who would have thoughts adults and kids would use their children's menu games...but we certainly did. We are new to the area and when the staff learned of that they spent tons of time telling us the places to visit and things to do. Overall this place is great. Staff was super friendly and we plan to go their often!

Nice clean interior, helpful staff, greeted the moment I came in. Had a veggie skillet option. Food was not greasy, and they subbed egg substitute without up charging me. Classy. My boy enjoyed the speed of service, and the selection for kids, which included his favorite, Kraft Mac n'cheese-- something we don't have at home. 3.5 stars. Interior was clean, orderly and pleasant aroma.

Uhhh, well I cannot rate what diners specialize in, their breakfast foods because I'm supposed to be gluten-free and I was trying hard here to not order any bread so I ordered the Alaskan cod grilled and not breaded. I appreciated that they were able to special-order it to my request with no qualms whatsoever. In fact, the lady who took our orders was a total sweetheart from start to finish. You could just tell she truly cared about her customer(s). My friend ordered the German pancakes (not up to her standards which she had in the past in Palm Springs) and another ordered the 1/2 sandwich/soup combo (she didn't consume most of it so I'm guessing it was pretty average). Onwards to my order of fish, brown rice, a few carrots, and some broccoli. It tasted like your average American Mom's cooking on an average day, nothing out of this world and nothing gone wrong. I wouldn't return here for anything special. However, thanks Elmer's for helping fill my hungry stomach

The German pancake was soft with the crunchy ends and pairs perfectly with the lemon and butter. The crab salad was ok, a simple salad with side vinaigrette. Elmer's will fill your tummy without denting your wallet so hit them up when you're in the area.

Best breakfast place ever! Growing up in Portland, this was a favorite "go to" breakfast spot. We don't have any in the Los Angeles area, so I had to bring my boys here at least once. Our server, Cassie was very attentive and the did was great, as always.

Really great service - little but greasy but the portions are huge and two people could easily share a dish much better then Denny's but it's not cheap get ready to drop 30-40$ for two people to eat breakfast - I 100% will return and recommend Since my last review I have returned and had a amazing breakfast as always - :) A+ service w a smile !!

Whenever my girlfriend and I are in the mood for some solid, consistent, American food, we only have to say one word: Elmer's. I grew up with them and although they've updated things over the years, they are still true to their family-dining roots. In this age of "artisan this" and "small batch that", they deliver some rib sticking delicious food. Also, if you're traveling along I-205, they are conveniently located right off the freeway.

Ate at this Elmer's and was pleased as usual. Establishment was busy as usual, order was taken in good time, food arrived and was very Google, as usual. We have found Elmer's to be consistently a good place to eat. Service, food , prices, and cleanliness are always good, no matter what area or location you happen to be in.

This is a chain breakfast place. If you're coming here, you know it's not your hipster diner. This place is a family place and if you come with kids you will be in the majority. Having worked in many service industries, I am pretty good at spotting good service. And the best service is the service you don't see. It's then food comes quicker than you thought it should, the wait staff don't seem to have any other customers when the place is full, and when you can get in an out quickly and don't feel rushed. That's this Elmer's. They hop in the mid to late morning on weekends like all breakfast places do. And you can come into the place with a long line and expect a wait. But that won't usually happen. They are fast. Not rushed, but fast. Service that is invisible. Like when the table next to mine was removed and a longer table put in its place and I did not even notice until the party of 20 began to sit down. They moved furniture and were so efficient, no one seemed to even notice. And that's saying something, the place does not have wide spaces between tables. All in all, this is the pinnacle of this kind of food service. The manager who operates this location obviously knows how to get quality staff. You will pay more than an IHOP, but considering you will actually get seated and be able to eat your food, it's worth the few bucks more.

Went with a farmers Omelet which had 3 different types of meats and 3 different types of veggies- it was good but my main complaint would be I felt it was very lacking on the meats in the Omelet and thus I wasn't to impressed with it and was disappointed with that part of the meal The OJ I had was pretty good, and I liked the hashbrowns it came with. Willamette valley Omelet with Pancakes and ate all of her food, so I assumed she liked it lol. Overall, if the Omelet I had had more meat in it, I would give this place more stars- thats the main reason only given this location 3 stars.

This restaurant was great from the servers to the food! I had the Country fried steak, unfortunately I was so hungry I forgot to take a picture. The food portions were plentiful and the taste was excellent. I would definitely tell you to check them out!

Stopped for breakfast after PDX. So so coffee. The dungeness crab benedict was yummy and the sauce was perfect. The Saturday market skillet was so so. Skimpy on the meat and the potatoes were a bit greasy. Homemade biscuit was good but it would've been nice if it was served with the preserves instead of packaged jelly. Good service and average pricing.

I have never had any issues when I have eaten at this restaurant. The service is great even when they are busy. Always keep your coffee cup filled and piping hot. The food is good as well. Everything tastes better than the other "chain" breakfast restaurants. The German pancake is a must try for a first timer.

Yes, I know, I go out to eat too much, and lately, too much at Elmers. But it's so good I can't help myself! I used to live right up the road from this one so I stopped by when I was in the neighborhood. Just as good as always!

I have had only 2 experiences at this location. The first one being great! I came in with my dad on the Monday after the snow storm in February and we had great service from an older waitress who was attentive, kind, and had great service! However...this last visit....was so bad that the only reason it was good was the food and the manager who was extremely sincere and apologetic! Easter Sunday I took my daughter (6months old) and went to Target at Mall 205. I debated about breakfast and thought I would shop before making my decisions. Well weren't we lucky to find out Target would be closed on Easter Sunday. So that made the decision final to go get breakfast. Just the two of us! Upon opening the door with my daughter in one of those 1 click stroller frames a lovely blonde girl named Caitlin rushed over to hold the doors open for us. This sweet woman made me feel better about coming to breakfast on a busy holiday with my daughter. She took our name and how many in the party and we sat to wait. Not much longer a brown haired girl name Melanie rushed over and said "Are you sure you don't want a sling or high chair and leave the stoller up at the front?" I politely told her "No, I'm fine with the stroller!" As a manager came over she looked at him and says "She wants to keep the stroller." Umm...excuse me...Am I not here in front of you listening to your rude tone? Anyways I was seated and there was actually a sling with a carseat not too far from me and let me tell you....my stroller was smaller and more compact than that thing! I sat waiting for a waitress as I knew i wanted eggs benedict and eventually a girl serving coffee filled up my cup. I asked for decaf and she was astonished that i wanted decaf and seemed puzzled. I told her I hadn't even seen a waitress yet...I forgot her name but its the same as the asian girl off Gilmore Girls...Ugh I can't believe i forgot! Anyways my servers name was Meg! She seemed sweet in the beginning. I ordered Eggs Benedict and a side order of Biscuits and Gravy and apparently my check....The coffee girl was awesome at coming to fill my coffee as needed. She was really on her game in that place! I had finished my eggs benedict and had a few bites of Biscuits and Gravy left on my plate.....My baby got fussy so I started to console her as a bus boy came over and asked if he could take my plates. Umm no there is still food on them!!! I looked at my "neighbors" table and they said "I think they are running out of plates!" Hmm well that was stupid of him. None the less THAT table and the table with the baby were there before me and let me tell you...they were there when I left! Not two minutes later Meg came around and said "Let me take your plates!" and off my plates went. The table next to me snickered. I told them well I guess I was done! We packed up and headed to the cashier while my "neighboring tables" were still sitting! I guess being a single mother you aren't allowed to have a hot meal and be served with kindness! I asked for a manger and met Stephanie Olsen. Oh My Gosh was she the nicest manager or what! She was kind, sincere, and better yet a mother. I told her everything including being a single mom and wanting a hot meal while holding back the tears. She was so kind and apologetic and generously comped my meal. SIDE NOTE...Melanie hung around as I talked to the manager. It was really hard to talk badly about her professionalism but hey....she needs to be informed! Stephanie convinced me to give them another try. I hope people were talked to and changed their cruel ways. I was so made and irritated that if Stephanie wouldn't have been as kind as she was I would have had a few extra words!

Worst lunch ever. My omelet had an avocado that was rotten. My husband's cheeseburger was suppose to have Tillamook cheese on it but you could not see it. It was covered on bugers sauce and just sloopy. Our server was very nice. Felt sorry for her.

This restaurant is NOT vegan friendly. They didn't have a milk alternative (soy/almond) for my oatmeal. I spoke to the manager, hoping they could maybe add it to their menu in the future and I was pretty much dismissed by her. They also have no tofu scrambles or anything at all catering to vegans. Pretty much oatmeal and fruit is all you get!

I had The Best restaurant experience tonight. We went to dinner at Elmers and had the most attentive waitress EVER! She saw that my streak wasn't cooked as ordered, and asked if she could make it right, I declined. Then, moments later, the manager came over and offered her apology. Then took $5 off of the meal. That was totally cool of them to do!! Kudos to the staff!!!

We live in the heart of NE PDX and the lines at some of the hot spots are unreal for breakfast so we bust on out here to the 205 Elmer's and eat up. Great food and service without all the hipsters!!!!!

This is probably my favorite restaurant in all of Portland! Their large and diverse menu accommodates our varying tastes any time day or night. The staff is consistently fast and courteous, and the prices are pretty reasonable for the quality and quantity you get. It can get quite busy at peak hours, so be prepared for a loud crowd and a few minutes wait.

    (5)
  • Martin F.

It's pretty good diner food. The service is good, the food is good, the place is a throwback to the 60's but clean and comfortable. It was loud however - probably because the average age looks to be 70+ when I was there late morning on a weekday, so people have to speak up. I think the advantage over the other chains is that the food I had seemed to be freshly prepared just before it was served to me. I think it's better food than Sheri's or Dennys, less of a selection. The prices are probably average (which I personally think are too high), the portions are large. You probably won't regret this place, you probably won't remember it for much either. If you're in the neighborhood, go ahead and give it a whirl - it will deliver decent food, reasonable service in a clean and comfortable setting. While you could probably do better, you could definitely do a whole lot worse.

There are lots of Fad restaurants for breakfast in Portland, but who wants to wait in a long line just to get a table? Mary and I go here almost every Saturday. My favorite thing about the place is the low hipster quotient. I like that. Even when it's really crowded, we've never waited more than 15 minutes. They serve Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner but Breakfast is the way to go. I enjoy the egg white omelets, while Mary often gets their Belgian waffle (hold the whipped cream). Service is excellent even on crowded Saturday mornings. Our favorite server is Tami. Even if we're not in her section, she still acknowledges us. They have several locations but we always go to Mall 205. They even have a full bar if you need a bit of "hair of the dog" to compensate for the night before.

I had noticed a couple of these restaurants around town on the way in from the airport, and there was luckily one right across the street from our hotel. I knew I had to check it out. I was intrigued because I thought it was associated with Elmer's Glue.. but I did my research and I still don't know ;( It seemed to me like it was the NorthWest version of Cracker Barrel, but without the gift shop festivities. The food was great - I ordered the German Pancakes - and I also got to sample the French Toast. Both were equally delicious in their own rights. Bottomline: what made it even better was the no-tax policy the fine state of Oregon has imposed. I could get used to traveling there.

My husband and I go to the bar for a quick, more personal experience. The bartenders here are awesome and remember what we get every time. I've gotten all sorts of things, the food always turns out great, and it's better than whatever rolls onto your plate at Denny's. Today I got Eggs & Benedict (not the first time I've had here) and it's always delicious. Definitely check out the bar next time if you don't mind sitting in a bar. There's less geriatrics! :-P

This is pretty much a Denny's style joint. Not a whole lot going on for this place when compared to all the amazing breakfast joints in Portland to choose from! I think if you get a simple breakfast of just eggs, bacon, sausage, and toast you will be pleased but going for an omelette covered in gravy is not going to leave you impressed. My boyfriend was okay with the basics....I was not too happy about the omelette. The flavor was pretty much non-existant and the gravy was about the same. There was hardly any sausage and it was made with too much flour. I had a side of pancakes and even these were not that great. They were sort of rubbery and not fluffy. A glass or orange juice was also $5. A bit much? Of all the amazing breakfast options in Portland this one didn't impress me at all. Thanks Elmer. I am sure you were a nice guy but I won't be back for dining at your restaurant again.

Better than Denny's - average for breakfast. You'll leave full, and the staff is friendly and fast.

  • Dawn R.

This is an overdue review - I've been here several times and have never been disappointed with the food OR the service! As soon as you're seated, you will be prompted for beverages and that server will circle the wagons repeatedly through your stay to make sure you're sufficiently supplied with drink. The server will never get your order wrong, the bussers will clear away unnecessary plates promptly and the manager will often pop by just to make sure everything was A-ok. It's a bit spendier than some breakfast joints but you know you're getting real butter and bacon! This is the go-to place for taking out of town guests, especially if you're uncertain about how adventurous the eaters are - Elmer's honors traditional menu items that offer something for everyone!

Elmer's. Just the name seems synonymous with old people. Sure this 205 restaurant is the most popular place with the over 65 crowd, but don't let the abundance of handicap parking and old Mercuries in the parking lot scare you away. The menu here is extensive but that doesn't mean that the food is half rate since they have such a wide selection. I have eaten here for breakfast on several occasions and it is about as good as it can get. The pancakes are light fluffy and flavorful, eggs cooked to order, and portions are fit for a king. Here for lunch or dinner? Don't worry breakfast is still available. My favorite breakfast options are the "Ranch Breakfast" (similar to the Denny's Grand Slam) and their German Pancake (delicious and where else is there a German pancake on the menu?) My most recent visit was for lunch and I got my post-breakfast favorite, the Prime Rib Dip. This French Dip style sandwich is one of the best and favorites that I have had anywhere. The meat is flavorful and juicy and stacked high within the sandwich. The sandwich comes with your choice of side, I usually choose the bottomless french fries but cole slaw and fruit are also available. For about $10 the Prime Rib Dip is excellent value with the taste and portion leaving you more than satisfied. A few drawbacks about Elmer's? There aren't many. The service can be lacking at times and parking in the morning and around meal times can be a challenge and the average age of the clientele is well over 60. However, the AARP crowd are right to flock to the Portland original considering it is hard to get a bad meal off the menu.

This is not a Denny's. This place rocks out all day breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Great service, and two hot new managers. If I had a complaint it might be in that they are really busy seemingly whenever you go. Your food arrives quickly, but it is always packed. Food is always good. ...have not had anything bad there yet.

  • Jenn A.

We skip the main dining room and go straight to the lounge for Sunday brunch. It's a bit cozy with just over half a dozen tables plus a few seats at the bar. Because the space is smaller, it's easier for the cheerful servers to give you personal attention (and remember to bring you more coffee!). Consistently tasty diner food paired with pretty decent coffee that keeps on coming is a win in my book. Elmer's is not necessarily the first place you would think of for a child-free breakfast, but the lounge makes it possible!

    (4)
  • D. E.

Where would you be Elmer's without our elderly who are lucky enough to have a retirement pension? Pretty good and consistent breakfasts. Expanded lunch and dinner menu gives it more variety than decades past. Sort of a classier Shari's with much better service. A little higher than average on their prices, but hey, you can always eat it at home, you know.

Went during lunch cause I wanted an omelette. I was not impressed. Ordered the Farmers. It was extremely salty and tasted very generic. The staff was friendly but slow. I won't be back for lunch.
