In relation to other Denny's this one is okay. The people were nice even though we came in 30 min before closing (they're not 24/7). The food was good and it was located super close to our hotel, literally a one minute walk. But the chairs were old, I felt gross sitting there. Mine had a huge rip in the back and I couldn't stop thinking of all the bugs that must live inside it :/ Came here a second time and our waitress was very sensitive to my dairy allergy. She made a dairy free mango smoothie and I've got to say it was the best smoothie I ever had! I wish I remembered her name... Danteya?

Service was awesome. Food/ breakfast was fast but maybe a bit too fast. My eggs were perfect but the sausage was like warm and kind of soggy. Coffee was good and server was great with filling my cup and asking how everything was. I just told him it was fine and didn't mention the sausage. Would come again. Nice place to pass time. Would order something different next time.

Once a year, I stop in at Denny's to see how things are going; I've undoubtedly had at least two of the worst meals I've ever paid for at Denny's, but I keep rooting for them for a couple reasons, one is that most of them are franchisees, and I try and cheer on entrepreneurs of all ilks, and secondly because a friend of mine just bought 75 of them, and he's a lot smarter than me, so I figure he must see an upside. At least two of the bad experiences I have had at Denny's I have been accompanied by Mrs. Burgerdogboy, and this week I returned to the spot where we shared one of our very first meals eever. The last time I was at this location the experience was tainted in a good way by thinking I was in love, so the restaurant experience didn't matter; I was also hobbling around Portland with crutches and a cast, courtesy of Hurricane Katrina. This time I was not so handicapped, in either regard. I'm pleased that a lot of things have changed, the restaurant was cleaner, the service affable, and I ordered a cheeseburger and fries, thinking a straight-forward entree would be a good test of the menu and kitchen. The burger menu has been greatly enhanced, with a host of specialty burgers as well as a "build your own" menu with a substantial number of toppings, including picking your patty and bun: Beef Patty, Grilled Seasoned Chicken Breast, Turkey Patty, Veggie Patty. Find Your Base: Sesame Seed Bun, Cheddar Bun, Whole Wheat Bun, Grilled Potato Bread. Say Cheese: American, Swiss , Cheddar, Pepper Jack. Choose Your Toppings: Grilled Onions, Spinach, Lettuce, Tomato, Red Onions, Pickles, Mayo, Chipotle Sauce, Bourbon Sauce, BBQ Sauce, Ranch, Jalapeños, Pico de Gallo. Premium Toppings (requires additional cost): Sautéed Mushrooms, Hash Browns, Bacon, Onion Tanglers™, Fried Egg, Chili, Fresh Avocado, Jalapeño Bottle Caps. It's a list comparable to any of the current niche burger joints, and a worthy one. Sandwiches and entrees are accompanied by a choice of sides, including Denny's "odd" new fries, which they proclaim to be "Waffle cut," which I think actually means "waffle extruded," a fry made from a potato slurry mixture and forced out of a mold frying to freezing and frying. But they were better than most extruded fries I have consumed. Other side choices include hash browns, seasonal fruit or dippable vegetables. The patty was clearly hand-formed and had a great beef taste. A third pound, at least. My one beef about the beef at Denny's? You have two choices of "doneness," according to the server, medium well and well. Period. Those two levels of cooking are not anywhere near my personal preference, but I have to say, it was OK. Medium well didn't mean completely dried out as it does at most restaurants. Denny's menu is full of 'doneness' cautionary statements, including about eggs. They've added a couple of 'premium' steaks to the menu, not sure if they can only be cooked to the same levels as the burgers or not. In any case, my conclusion is that Denny's new burger menu is comparable to any fast casual competitor, and is every bit as good as Fuddrucker's or Red Robin.

I have to be honest...it's a Denny's people. It isn't a high end joint. For what I got from the lunch it was good. The new "Thing" burger was quite good actually! One of the best breakfast burgers I have had. Seasoned fries were very good as well. I was alone so I was able to cruise straight to the breakfast bar without waiting. I could see people waiting for 15 or 20 minutes. Keep in mind it was about noon and right next to the convention center where two conventions were being held. My server was very kind and amicable. She was speedy and thoughtful as well. Got me water without me having to ask and asked if I needed any recommendations from the menu. The food was good for a Denny's, the service was good for a Denny's, and the price very reasonable. For a Denny's this is one of he better ones I have been to. I was in and out within 30 minutes with a full stomach of good food. I can't ask for more.

I usually only come here for breakfast, or when it's 2am after a night out. But today I was craving a burger and fries, so here I am. Until recently, I was a Red Robin loyal customer, but service was SO INCREDIBLY BAD last time @ Lloyd Center location that I will never eat @ that Red Robin location ever again! But I digress... Service @ this Denny's can be hit-or-miss. Today, I got lucky and had a really good waiter... fast, friendly and attentive service. I had the "Build Your Own Burger" and fries for $8.99 which is a decent price. The parking lot here sometimes has sketchy looking tweakers hanging around and there's usually at least one panhandler squatting outside the front door :( which is annoying.

I write this review as I sit and watch my friend eat his lovely looking meal. You may be wondering why I am typing while he is eating. Sadly it is because I have yet to see my meal. Sure it's just a free birthday slam but I'm kinda hungry and need to catch a train soon. It's been about 10 more minutes and our lovely waitress has finally come and ask me if I was ready to order my meal. I kindly informed her I was ready when I ordered it 20 minutes ago. I also ordered a to go box at this point. I got my meal and have started eating. Now I've become thirsty and have been waiting 5 minutes for some water. Got the water a day my check. I could not bring myself to leave a tip. Usually I am an over tipper. I would have been understanding if there were more people in the restaurant but it was pretty empty.

Not sure why this Denny's has a 2 star. My service was great, food was no different than any other great Denny's. I had my typical breakfast , always eggs sunny side up , wheat toast dry. Great service and food.

I get why everyone craps all over Denny's, the restaurants are not the nicest, the service isn't the best and food is of poor quality, but you should walk into this place already knowing all that. I like Denny's, the price is low and the food is decent enough. I was in Portland for the week on a business trip working at the convention center. I had a cold so I didn't want to go very far to get a decent meal, so I stuck with Denny's and went for lunch two separate times. I had breakfast for lunch both times, the first visit I got the lumberjack slam which was good enough. The eggs where a little to greasy and the bacon, sausage and ham were decent but the quality was poor and the ham steak was very thin and small. The next day I had the Ultimate skillet, which looked great pictured in the menu, but was small and lacked the great vegetables I was looking forward to, like spinach and grape tomatoes and was more of just potatoes, but it was hot and it did fill me up. The service was good and fast and they kept my drinks full and made sure I had everything I needed. So if you're looking for something fast, low priced, but are not worried about quality or your taste buds then Denny's is a place to consider.

You know what - it IS a Denny's, so I wasn't expecting a transcendental, but what I got was far below my basic expectations. I waited 10 minutes to be seated with half the restaurant empty, I waited 15 minutes for the server to even come to the table, and almost 15 more minutes for their "lumberjack" plate thing - one of the most basic dishes they offer. In the time I was there I witnessed 5 complaints (I'm not exaggerating!) to the manager who looked flustered, desperate, and totally at the whim of her own servers and kitchen staff. Complaints ranged from mis-prepared food, slow service, to billing issues. I asked three times for water (to take a pill) and the server finally slammed a glass down on the table w/o even looking me in the eyes. One of the worst meals / experiences I've had at a restaurant in the US.

A Dennys like every other! The only thing different was my selection off the menu. Sausage and potatoe skillet, just like ma use to make. The food was edible but nothing I couldn't make myself with leftovers in about 10 minutes. I ordered a iced coffee that was exactly that....black coffee poured over ice cubes with a splash of milk. Can you say bland! Dennys never surprises me, in a good way or a bad way. A good place to eat before you have your morning coffee.....when the brain isn't functional yet.

I am most definitely not a horrible food critic. I have seen some bad service but this is probably the icing on the cake! First of all, I want to say that our waitress was very kind and although very swamped, she maintained that kind attitude. Secondly, our food took quite a while to arrive. We honestly didn't order much food. But when the orders finally came around, they had forgotten some things and it took us another round of waiting to get these food items. I wouldn't say we were neglected but each time our waitress came by (which was rarely), we always had to ask for a correction with out orders. Not really gonna recommentd dining here.

Our waitress was great...too bad she was the only one serving tables when we went in around 4pm on a weekday. If you come across Randy the manager, he sucks! Don't bother giving him feedback. He spent about 15 doing whatever he could find (i.e folding napkins, walking real slow back and forth at the other side of the restaurant etc.) BUT help out the poor waitress. Then this fool actually had the nerve to ask how everything was when I went to pay. I told him my concerns about his lack of management skills then he proceeded to just ignore me as he continued to swipe my card/get receipt. I asked if he heard me and then he just looked up with a dead stare, I kid you not! Not a word from him! What a creepy manager, you've been warned. Other than that, same exact Denny's food you will find at hundreds of locations.

Food is terrible. Cold . took half hour to get a salad and fish. Wrong dressing. The waiter is no where to be found. The fish was cold by the time it arrives. Service is non existence. Will never go back to this location.

This is the worst Denny's I have ever been to. I only went to Denny's because it was convenient and close to where I stayed as a guest in Portland. The service was awful. Thirty minutes after I ordered my food, the server said he forgot to tell the cooks to start making it and then instead of putting tomato on my burger, they put onions, and I cannot stand onions! It takes them 5+ min to figure out how to charge your order on a gift card too, which is a bit odd.

It's Denny's, man. What do you expect?

    (3)
  • Mark B.

Absolutely atrocious. Based solely upon the service. I, actually, have not been to a Denny's in over 4 years, since I've moved to Portland. But, there happens to be one right next to my workplace, and I got to work a little earlier than usual, so I thought I'd go in because I was craving pancakes. I stood in the waiting area for a full 10 minutes before being greeted or seated. Once seated, I had to get up to find a server to order some tea. Once I received my tea, from the host, not a server, I sat there for a full 25 minutes before a server came to my table. After about 10 minutes of being ignored, I was ready to leave. After another 15 minutes went by, I had to get up to find a server just to pay for the tea. I know the service is bad, generally, in Portland, which I've come to expect in a mom and pop shop. But, this, a major chain restaurant in the heart of the city, where people have SO many other options, is inexcusable. I wouldn't have even minded bad service so much as there was no service at all to be labeled bad in the first place. Oy vey. Here's an amusing little bit about this Denny's, quoted from band members of Sublime: "In Portland there was a dispute over a bill at Denny's. The restaurant's manager was about to tow their RV. They reclaimed the vehicle and aligned its septic tank with a service entrance. Bud set it up flawlessly. "It shot Sh*t and p*ss and that blue sh*t that cleans it out all into their back door. Thirty f*cking gallons of f*cking sh*t p*ss puke and blue sh*t. It was f*cking beautiful man."

Don't get me wrong the employees are very friendly, but the service was a bit terrible. We weren't going to come again because the last time we had the same problem. We sat down and had decided what we wanted. Our drinks were quick, but the refills took forever. Still waiting, we didn't even order food so my grandmother decides to go gamble. Having lost 15 dollars, she comes back and we still have yet to order until they saw us complain. Afterwards, as you can tell, the service was a bit faster, but not enough to come back a third time.

It's a Denny's so the fare is what it is: Greasy spoon Americana. The great thing about this particular location is that staff acts like they work at a five star joint. The entire staff was friendly and engaged and seemed to truly like their jobs.

I have been going here for years. I have been hit on by the 50+ yr old busser, reported twice but nothing happend. I went a week ago (new haircut makes me look unrecognizable) and ended up with a comped meal due to gravy laden garlic "toast" and mash potatoes that were cold in the middle :( Portland is in need of a 2nd Denny's

I have been eating at Denny's restaurants for the last 15 years. This is HANDS DOWN THE WORST DENNY'S I HAVE EVER BEEN IN! I have been in Denny's in Los Angeles, San Luis Obispo and San Francisco, and a few in between. FOOD: I'm not sure how you could mess up: toasted sourdough bread, scrambled eggs, ham and cheese - but they did it, and they did it HORRIBLY. The whole thing was mushy and disgusting, and I actually had to pick it apart, eat the crust, and pick out the egg and ham. If I wasn't in a hurry I would have sent it back, but I was stuck. SERVICE: Initial server was in a hurry, polite, but sat us at a dirty table then wiped it down with a wet cloth that left the whole table wet. I had to use our napkins to wipe down the table so we could put our elbows on it and not be wet, and then request more. The waitress was hard to remember. Hard to remember because she barely was there. No follow-ups - if we thought we could pay our checks at the table we must have been living in a dream world, although we did wait a more than patient amount of time with our coffee cups empty and the credit card on the table. (With no pen to sign) We did see her plenty chatting with two other waitresses in the corner by where you go into the kitchen - conveniently located in view were we kept looking to catch her eye) The guy that rang us up at the register was on his day 1 alone. He was the highlight of this experience, and I told him so. He was delightful, attentive, not burnt out, and helpful with directions. This one experience has made me hesitant to ever go to a Denny's and waste my money again. I know it's stupid because clearly this Denny's must be an isolated incident, but I hate to pay money for crappy food.

I would never eat at Denny's but i know this one allows for predatory towing in their parking lot. Sergeants Towing is allowed to sit and wait for you to enter the building and then tow you!!!! Numerous complaints have been filed and its still allowed. PLEASE GO ELSEWHERE!!!

Service is terrible if they are any way busy. There are long waits for food and it's not exactly the best location or wait staff. If you're a mom with a first-grader you'll be helped out fairly quickly. However if you're a dad with a teenage son be prepared to be ignored. And JD on their staff is in DIRE need of a shave and a hair cut. Avoid.

they took forever. Service was very slow at 11pm with about 6 tables going on in total. My drink wasn't refilled once, the food was a big disappointment. Got tired of waiting for my bill (waited about 25 min for it) so I decided to go to the register and pay without the bill, there I waited for about 15 minutes and was told to go ask for my bill. finally got bill and was able to leave.

Denny's isn't the best in general, I know this. I don't expect, however, this bad of a Denny's experience. It took awhile to even get on the list to be seated. After that, two groups that got there after us (one bigger and one smaller) were told their table was ready. The larger group was told to wait and our group was yelled at "I need Ryan". Without even seeing if we were behind her, she took our group and the other smaller group. She just waved at the table we were to sit at and we were told that she would be back to take our drink order. After we waited for 7-8 minutes to be helped, we decided to leave, get on the MAX and go to Sherri's. It may have taken an extra 45 minutes to get there, but it was worth it.

You had me at straw for my water glass. Actually, you not only gave me a straw, you gave me a big girl cup, none of that "here's a small glass that you'll drink in 36 seconds and we won't come back to fill it up for seven years" crap. At a CHAIN restaurant I got his kind of stellar service. What do you think of them apples? I was going to use my "There are two kinds of people in this world.." theory, but since SOMEONE used it recently, I'll respectfully put it in my back pocket and save it for another day. Seriously though, it's no Mother's; I'll give you that, but it's still pretty amazing. Stop denying it already! Breakfast is kind of like Mexican food in that you get the same handful of ingredients [eggs, bacon, sausage, cheese, ham, toast/biscuits, hash browns, etc] and you pick how you want them presented to you [scramble, omelette, sandwich, etc]. How can you really go wrong with that? It's not a grease laden gut-bomb, either. Make it healthier if you must by subbing egg beaters, but frankly, you know you want a chocolate milkshake with that Grandslamwich. Service was stellar. Want hot sauce? Here, have four different kinds. A little bit of wit and a passion for what you're putting on the table speaks volumes. Super high tech flip pen to sign the bill? Also awesome. Call me crazy, but I think I kind of love it here. That also may be my Denny's withdrawals kicking in. They've pretty much axed every D's on the north side of the Columbia. All you can find now are crappy IHOPs and overpriced Shari's. Yes, you read that right. You can not only have Denny's cravings, you can go through withdrawals.

I don't know why people aren't giving this location better reviews! Denny's is my total go-to spot for Moons over my Hammy! Come on people! What's not to love? Great shakes too - the two of them are my go-to cure for too many Mojitos!

I think it's funny how people hate on Denny's. It is what it is, folks. And you know what? There's not an hour long wait on Sunday mornings, unlike every other brunch place in PDX.

Unless its during the 3 hour (or so) timeframe when it's closed, fuck this place and head down a few blocks to My Father's Place

If you're vegetarian, I'd avoid Denny's. Every dish had a meat side-order, so when i asked for the "French Toast Platter" without the sausage and bacon, the waiter was cool about it and all, substituting the meat with hash browns at my request, but what wasn't cool was still being charged for the full platter-- according to the side order menus, hash browns are half the cost of sausage & bacon; but rather than be a Jew about it I just sucked it up and paid the $11 bill... this yelp review will be my pussy form of revenge.
