Started with a peach and a blackberry margarita. Both were great! Chips, 2 salsas and bean dip was a nice treat while we waited. Food came out fast and was very hot. Server was efficient but busy and looked like she was on her own. Lots of dirty tables cleaned up with the help of a young man in between serving customers. Shredded beef flautas were moist and flavorful. Shrimp with red crema, (Camarones crema) was super. These meals were as good as we have had in Tucson with fresh Gulf of CA seafood. Rice and beans were excellent. Nice meal and server was great. Will be back!

Ok, normally I wait till we leave to post a review, but bleh.... Only 4 other parties and it took about 45 minutes for our food. Only one round of chips and salsa. Our server could not speak english to save her life. Had to repeat things several times and orders still were wrong. My drink order got lost. Food was hot, but very bland. I had the lunch Gordita. Very small portion. And, some hispanic gentlemen cane in about 10 minutes after us and had food within 10 minutes.

Food was not bad, but not great. Service not bad, but not great. I wouldn't go out of my way to return.

This is a pretty good Mexican restaurant. I definitely like it better than Oscar's. Very reasonably priced and tasty lunch. 3 sauces comes with your warm chips. Nice! Attractive decor and friendly servers serving many customers.

Went for dinner and was very disapointed. Staff was ok and polite but the food was diguisting in my eyes. My plate of enchilada and burritos did not look apetiting and the plate came straigh out of the microwave. I ate 1/3 of my plate because I was so hungry, but was pretty desguisted. Do not recomende this place!

They charge for chips!!!!' This restaurant seemed very promising at first. The chips were amazing. We had service right away. After that, things went downhill fast. The server disappeared after bringing food and had to be waved back over for anything else. The food was ok. It was very small portions for the price. We asked for another basket of chips (1 basket was about half of what you'd get at any other place). The biggest problem was my bill. I had to track down the server to pay. He gave me my bill and it was $29 for lunch for two people! Turns out, they charge $2 for an extra basket of chips. I did not see that anywhere on the menu and was never told of the additional charge. The small amount of chicken that was "subbed" for ground beef in the chimichanga was an extra $3! We will not be going back.

Probably should just be a 3 star review, but I love the pastor tacos that much... I enjoy the food here...

Great chips, 2 kinds of fresh salsa, and bean dip to start and then things went down hill. One order was delivered in correctly (server not pleased having to remake it) and we asked four times to refill water and never received a refill. Other meals were okay but not a place we would recommend or return to because of very poor service.

We always hit this place once per trip; this year we made it out on may fifth, so that seemed a good excuse to drop in! They were busy, not a surprise given the day. Had the "super grande burrito" - holy WHAT! This thing is HUGE. Chipotle eat your heart out! Oh yeah, it tasted good too. Chicken, pork, beef, rice, beans, guac, tomatoes, everything wrapped up for your pleasure. Where do they get tortillas this big?

Great food enjoyed the burrito with enchilada sauce. Staff was very friend and accommodating when they decided to come to table. Had to get up and find the waiter in order to get a refill on ice tea. Better service and it would have been 4 or 5 stars for me.

Thought it would be another Americanized representation of Mexican food but what we found was an authentic representation of mazatlan cuisine. This place I'd amazing! They sell tripe, head meat and tounge, along with more Americanized favorites. Bottom line is if you want authentic or American this place has it!

We stopped at LaRoca for a late lunch on Labor Day. I wasn't expecting much at an off the main drag Mexican place but we were pleasantly surprised both by the food and the service. For the coast this is a great Americanized Mexican restaurant. Heavy on tacos burritos and other typical Mexican standards. The chips were served warm with two salsas and beans. Both salsas were respectable but I really like the green tomatillo based one. It was hot enough to have a nice kick but not so hot that it over powered the flavor. We shared a super nacho for less than ten bucks and left stuffed after eating only about three quarters of the dish. The nacho was your standard nacho except that it came with three meets, chicken, pork and beef, not your typical one meat nacho. The jalapeños were large slices that needed to be cut down to size before eating but still a nice touch. I should emphasize the chips again. They are warm, crunchy and they tasted fresh not like some places where they have that stale grease taste. I'd definitely stop here again if I was hungry for a quick Mexican meal.

Empty but really good. They bring warm chips, salsa AND beans to start and my burrito was authentic and tasty. Under $10 for lunch.

Love the location and decor of this Mexican cafe. It feels cozy and intimate inside yet has picture windows all around for for watching people and cars go by. Seems to be a pretty popular spot for lunch. They offer specials and the food comes up quickly. Our waitress was attentive and efficient and within minutes, we had drinks, chips and three kinds of dip - an avocado dip, a bean dip and salsa - which were all good. We ordered chile rellenos with chicken and carne asada torta. The dishes come with the standard beans, rice and salad but the proportions are perfect. We both ate every bite and were satisfied, slightly full but not bulging! I had the chile rellenos and they were a good balance of egg, chile, cheese, chicken with a light, fresh tomato sauce. Overall, it's pretty standard Mexican fare but not as greasy and filling as most. We were also entertained by the Mexican novelas playing silently in the background on the TV.

Great food, we make this a destination every time we come to the coast this is our third time here at the Newport location, great food, nice folks and wonderful prices. Will definitely be back!

Having grown up in So. Cal. I have enjoyed authentic Mexican food and for Coastal Oregon I am very happy. Working a few blocks away makes me a regular. Pulgares hacia arriba!

My family and I are driving down the Oregon coast from Seattle. We live in the South San Joaquin Valley in California. This is some authentic Mexican food! Best we've had since leaving California. Seat your self and pay when you leave. Perfect! Just like what we are accustomed too.

I visited at lunch time on a weekday in late June. No-one greeted me, I didn't know whether to wait or seat myself. Finally found a menu, and after several minutes the waitress came by and told me to seat myself. I didn't get a menu or water. There were maybe 6 other parties, most already had their meals. Service was SLOW. I did get the little basket of warm chips, refried beans, salsa, and a green dip that was VERY hot. The waitress was not the one to deliver my meal, and did not come back to refill my water glass (my glass was empty by then) or ask how my meal was or if I needed anything else. The meal itself: a chicken enchilada with dark meat in a very tasty sauce. The rice and beans were generic. I never got a bill, don't know where the waitress disappeared to, fortunately I had remembered the cost of the meal and left the money and a very modest tip on the table. Enchiladas good, everything else average,: serving sizes were on the smallish side for the price, and terrible service. And it pains me to be critical...I had really hoped for better. Hesitate to return...

For an Amercian-ized Mexican restuarant this place is great! They provide you with extremely fresh chips, beans and a couple types of salsas when you first arrive. The chips are homemade and delicious. We had a large group this past weekend and the staff was very accomodating and quick. My husband and I split the combo fajitas and several others ordered enchiladas and burritos. All agreed that the portions were huge and tasted great. Like I said, it's an americanized mexican restaurant, not authenic. I highly recommend.

Food always comes out fast. Love the chicken fajitas. Service could be a tad better, but we go for the food and don't mind.

La Roca is my favorite restaurant in Newport. They are very accommodating of large groups. I live most of the year in California, and every time I come home, I cannot wait to go to La Roca. The service is great. They seat you as soon as you come into the restaurant, and they take the order as soon as you are ready (somehow without pestering you all the time). Their free chips, beans, and salsa keep you held over until your meal gets there. The food is made extremely fast, so if you want quick take-out or only have a short amount of time for lunch or dinner, this is the place for you. The only downside about La Roca is they aren't open 24/7.

On March 17, 2012 my husband and I were in Newport, Oregon. I had a hankering for Mexican food and we found this out of the way treasure called La Roca Mexican Restaurant. I had Chicken Fajitas and my husband had a combination plate with an Enchilada and a Chorizo Taco. As you can by the picture my husband had finished the Enchilada and was working on the taco. He raved about the taste of both. The Chorizo Taco per my husband was "most excellent"! I on the other hand the Chicken Fajita. It was lovely. The flavor was fresh and the dish was cooked to perfection! The fajita dish could feed a small army. There was enough food left over I had two additional meals from it. I asked for additional tortillas to take with me. They were fresh. I wouldn't be surprised if they were made on site or locally. If you are in the mood for Mexican food while on the coast, this is a definate stop! We go to this area several times a year and we will definately be back. I noticed another review that mention poor service. We did not experience this at all. If anything I would say the opposite. The young man that served us was kind, considerate and had a smile the entire time. He was also very attentive gave us menus right away and with minutes was at our table to take our order. All in all the service was great!

The food was tasty when we were eating it, but about four hours later we were both violently ill (vomiting and diarrhea). I won't go back simply based on the fact that I think we got food poisoning from here. Eek.

I must have gone on an off night, because everything about the experience was awful! We called ahead to make reservations, but the person who answered their phone seemed clueless as to what we were talking about. We arrived, they seated us at what was probably their worst table, smelled of mold and bleach, and had a view of their inventory. In another room, all the tables and chairs were much nicer, and they begrudgingly moved us when we asked if we could sit in there, even though it was empty. From there we could see the bar, and outdoors, felt more like a restaurant and not a store room, but we got attitude from the staff after that. The woman who took our order seemed confused, didn't seem to speak much English, was unable to answer questions about the menu, and seemed rather put out. I suspect she is the one who answered the phone when we called. She came back to the table once, we asked for a different beverage, as their soda was flat. She agreed, took the flat drink away, and never returned. When the food did come out, which took a pretty long time, one plate was wrong, another one was cold, the third was a burrito that had about a quarter teaspoon of guac and pico on a mound of blah beans, and the fourth plate was way later than the other three. This was after a server went parading by us with a tray full of steaming hot food to the people who came in after us and agreed to sit and the nasty, stinky table. The service was terrible. It was uncomfortable. It really felt as though they didn't even want us there. Maybe if the person who answered the phone when we called had let us know they were all just really interested in watching a big soccer game, we could have avoided what was undoubtedly the worst dining experience I have ever paid for. Which was just after the woman who incorrectly took our order announced very loudly, and in perfectly clear English, "They want separate checks!" while rolling her eyes. The WORST!!

Maybe it's because I am from South Texas and have lived there all my life but the food is just eh. It's not horrible but it's nothing to write home about. The service (or lack there of) is horrendous. Like others have posted you get food fast and service disappears as in I have to try and flag the waitress to come back to refill drinks or for us to order dessert. The "fried" ice cream was a little confusing as it wasn't friend more like rolled around in cinnamon tortilla crunchies then set on fire? Not sure what that was all about it tasted good but it wasn't what I would called "fried ice cream" The ginormous fish in tanks stare at you while you eat which turns into a great conversation piece no matter how many times we have visited this place while in Oregon.. I haven't had Mexican Food anywhere else in Oregon so it may be better than other places but yeah..

Great tortillas and green salsa. The rest of the meal was good but not excellente. I would eat here again, but I wouldn't be sad if the next time I was in Newport I skipped it. Service wasn't very fast, but was friendly.

Ordered the gigantic burrito, or whatever, and it was awesome. Couldn't get through half, and I've been known to murder burritos. Decent chips great salsas and great rice and beans. Dixie had, and loved the chili rellano. Don't listen to any doubters, this place is good. The first page of the menu is more taqueria style (I didn't go past it) and the rest appears to be more of the for some reason popular oval plate gravy topped meximerican style. So you and your fat aunt can both enjoy it here. Come on!

This is the best Mexican food in Lincoln County. We go here frequently for lunch on the run. Super Beef Burrito! and Super Chicken Burrito! Those and the tacos are great. Prices are super good too. lunch for 2 for $11. They have shops in Lincoln City, Corvallis, and Philomath. All good! (didnt know there was a shop in Toledo)

If La Roca is empty don't let that scare you off...the food is good! My husband and I stopped for a quick bite on our way out of town and it definitely hit the spot. The service was great as well. The chips and 2 different salsas were great and the al pastor taco lunch was excellent. If I wasn't so tired from the half marathon that morning I would have had a margarita- their tequila selection was small but very good. If you are craving Mexican in Newport then this is the place!

Fast service, but food was mediocre at best and the portions were weak. Maybe its because I'm from San Diego, but this food was way subpar.

Excellent food. A place where Mexicans go. The beans were a little funny, and they are tight with the chips, but the three salsa's were great, one was very hot. Great menu: Lunch, Dinner, House Specials, Vegetarian Plates, Dinner Combo's, Seafood, and Fajitas. Nice selections of Beverages and a full bar.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
