Certain things are good, certain things are bland. Pork fried rice...where was the pork? sauces taste like they came out of a jar. Average chinese food.....

Met friends there for dinner. The food was very good. Everyone left with leftovers. The portions were HUGE. I am amazed at the differences in the reviews. They go from 1 to 5. I can't believe the food prep would change so drastically? I didn't get name of happy faced young lady who greeted us, sat us, and took our order. She and VERY serious older lady were quick and efficient. I noticed our booth and some others very old with tape-repaired seats. I hope this business is more successful than the decor presents itself. We WILL return. Adequate parking. They have Take-Out.

Ordered Mu Shu pork. Absolute mush, NOT anywhere near fresh. Half cup of liquid at bottom of container, within five minutes of pick up. If I had received this dish at table, I'd have sent back. Never go back. We drive through Medford four times a year, usually go to Tin Tin, which is okay. Going back there from now on.

After a large group order from this place, I feel quite comfortable with this conclusion: this is some serious chow YUK. From the dry bbq pork to the drier shrimp fried rice (why, God?) to the amorphous blobs of battered, deep fried shrimp and other, indeterminate protein sources (in the age of easily accessible pankgo-style lightly crisped batters and mixes, why would anyone stick w/amorphous blobs?). This place underwhelmed, even as it under-delivered. They also forgot to include our soup, which their menu clearly promises for group orders larger than 3 which we certainly were. And what is it, anyway, w/all the diced water chestnuts? We got several of the large carry out boxes (most of which were a hefty $14-15 ), and whether it was chow mein or general Tsao, or chicken or beef or seafood or tofu, what you mostly seemed to get were: diced water chestnuts. Seemingly MILLIONS of diced water chestnuts. Granted, they can add a satisfying crispiness for mouthfeel, but on the whole I guess I'm just not feeling any lack of the daily starches and riboflavin... other than the mild crunch, the value of them thar' chestnuts is neglible. Starchy Filler. Have you ever wondered if you could sit and eat $14 worth of water chestnuts in one sitting? Come on out to Yummy Yans, and settle the matter in your mind, heart and tummy, once and for all! To be fair, out here in the boonies, I even compared, side by side, the menus from YYs and the nearby, highly utilized (but NOT highly regarded) Silver Dragon, whose cumulative Yelp star avg lags roughly 1/2 star behind YYs, and immediately noticed that across the board, Silver dragon was the more economical choice, being between $1-3 cheaper, in line-item style, than YYs. If the actual food at Silver Dragon is correspondingly that much worse than YYs, that would truly be an amazing accomplishment. It's hard to fathom that the amenities proffered by the prevailing technocracy, as evidenced by well-organized tools such as Yelp, would make a snob out of me over something as benign and meaningless as Take Out (American) Chinese. Just so. This was just bad food. baaaaaaad! There simply have to be much, much better options in Jackson/Josephine counties....

My husband and I went here twice, and both times it's been mediocre. The food leaves a lot to be desired, unfortunately.

This was a Yelp stumble upon lunch and the film were friendly as can be. They sent us soup before we ordered the menu was flexible and had great variety. The plates all matched and had a nice design. The rice was seasoned light but full of flavor. It was a pleasant dining experience top to bottom.

Love Sally! I come here with my family often and she knows us by name and has our order down. Always consistent, large portion sizes and cheap prices!

There were enough good reviews on this place that I gave it a chance. No offense meant folks, but I wonder how many of those who really like Yummy Yan have eaten really good Chinese food elsewhere. Maybe they're ranking it high compared to the mediocrity that is most Jackson county Chinese restaurants, with the exception of King Bo which is very good. When I try a Chinese place, I go for basics on the theory that if they can't do those well, nothing else they do is worth trying. Those basics are pot stickers, fried rice, and chow mein. If I don't have vegetables ready at home, also ordering a vegetable dish. I had despaired of finding good pot stickers locally. These guys fail in this regard. The filling is slightly flavorful but the wrappers are gummy and thick. Chicken Chow Mein is fair at best. As with the pot stickers, this dish was almost flavorless. Pork Fried Rice, the same verdict. I would return here only if it were the only Chinese place around. Similar to most Chinese places here, Panda Express is better. For that matter, canned Chinese food in supermarkets is better than Yummy Yan's. Eating from Yummy Yan's isn't a bad meal, just a meal wasted.

Food/Veggies were fresh. Tons of flavor with a light and crispy batter on their deep fried options. The portions are huge! Their egg flower soup is great. I would give it 5 stars for the food but the bathrooms are absolutely disgusting!!!!.... All in all, a good experience.. Will be back soon!

Best Chinese Dodd in Medford FOR SURE!!!! It's always hot and fresh, real white meat chicken in the mar far...so so good! Also, the owner Sally, is the sweetest kindest person around. We just love everything about this place!!!! Also, my 5 year old son Oliver, adores Sally and the food!

I am really surprised that this gets good reviews at all. We moved here about 6 months ago and this is not the best Chinese food in Medford. We have attempted eating here on three separate occasions and although it is not horrible, it is not good either. The food is consistently bland and dry regardless of what was ordered. If your looking for decent Chinese, the Silver Dragon is far superior. The service good and prompt. We will continue our search for good Chinese food in Medford.

Always fresh, always hot, always good. This place does Chinese food right. Their prices are literally too low (not that I'm complaining)... For lunch, two people can get full off of $7.50, no joke. You can do a "Pick 4" that also comes with tea and soup. Can't beat that deal. Not the biggest dining area so it can get crowded, but it's worth the wait. The staff is very attentive, and friendly too!

Great service and best Chinese food I've found so far in Medford! Our server Kelly was amazing and had great recommendations. I'll definitely be back!

Had it for takeout. Maybe its S Oregon Im new to the area but what's with the chow mein not having noodles??! Pork Fried rice was a brownish white rice with a little pork cut up on top. The Orange Chicken was a large container but the quality was not very good its a shame I will most likely toss all the leftovers except maybe the rice I might be able to do something with that.

We started eating here when silver Dragons quality started going downhill fast. The food here is very close, only higher quality and more finished. A big plus for us was you can tell the difference between the pork and chicken. if you like what silver Dragon used to be you will love yummy yans.

  • Bertram S.

Worst Chinese Food I ever had!!! Their BBQ pork fried rice is just white rice. What a joke & then they argue with you when you tell them the food is not right. If you like good Chinese food don't eat here!!!!!

I love this place! Every time we go there we feel like family. Sally and her team are great and make great food with ridiculous portions at a great price. I highly recommend the house chow mein. Yum!

How this place is getting more than one star is beyond me. The hot and sour soup was neither hot nor sour, and the kung pao chicken had what can only be described as chicken dust in it! Literally, no visible chicken and five peanuts at the most. One member of our party ate the string bean beef which made her sick to her stomach within an hour of walking out of the place and the other member of our party ate Mongolian beef which contained no peppers?! The "service" doesn't amount to much either...two crazy old ladies running around hounding customers about what kind of soup they want before giving anyone a chance to look at a menu. Not my idea of a good lunch. Major fail on this rating Yelpers.

Yummy Yans provides catering during the very busy holiday season at my work. I heard such great things about the pink sauce and crab puffs that I finally decided to try them out when my friend was in town, despite the fact that I really only like fried shrimp at Chinese restaurants. The pink sauce was amazing. I don't know exactly what it is, but I ate a lot of it. I also ate a lot of shrimp (dipped in pink sauce) and gorged on the crab puffs. The paper chicken left much to be desired. Blech. Service could have been friendlier. Once again, I appreciate people who laugh at my jokes. This woman, though, looked at us like we were freaks from the minute we walked in and didn't let up until we tipped.

I go to Yummy Yan's because it's near my friends house and it's easy. For the most part chinese food is the same all over Medford and one nice thing is that YY's does a very passable Lo Mein which many of the other places do not. I was disappointed the last two visits when I ordered Hot and Sour soup to go along with the rest of my order and on arriving home discovered that it was egg drop. Will I continue to go? Probably. It's not like they make me sick. I will keep my eye out for a new chinese place to frequent though.....

Decided to give this little hole in the wall a try as these little places can turn out to be gems. Not so much this time. The decor was old and dated. The waitress we had was very abrupt and not very friendly at all. The food wasn't terrible, it was just bland. I didn't dislike eating it, but I for sure didn't enjoy it. I know that sounds odd, but it makes sense to me. This is basically a very Americanized Chinese restaurant. I guess I should have expected that when I walked in and saw most of the tables occupied by senior citizens. Now I am not knocking seniors at all. It is just generally that they aren't big fans of spice. I am definitely looking for a different Chinese place to eat.

Chinese food in S. Oregon is definitely an adventure. It can range from downright terrible to pretty good. I doubt you will ever come across a top notch Chinese restaurant here. You know how the old saying goes that if there are a lot of Chinese people in a Chinese restaurant, then it must be good? Well, I can guarantee that isn't going to happen here! With that in mind, the Chinese restaurants in Southern Oregon adapt their food to their target market, hence the Americanized Chinese food. Chow Mein, Sweet and Sour Pork, Mongolian Beef, Marfar Chicken and pink sauce dominate most of the menu's around here. It makes sense, why go to the trouble to create a exotic stinky fish dish or fancy Dim Sum when most of their customers wouldn't eat it? Yummy Yans is no exception to the rule. Basic Americanized Chinese food. I do feel that they are one of the better Chinese restaurants in the area. Quality and flavor are pretty good. They give you very generous portions. I get the lunch special and there is enough food to eat half that day and save the other half for the next day. Before I moved to Oregon, I had never had Marfar Chicken or pink sauce. Now, put a plate of Yummy Yans Marfar in front of me with some pink sauce and hot mustard and I am a satisfied customer. Like someone mentioned, the attitude of the waitress can be less than courteous, but if you are lucky enough to be there while Sally the owner is there, then she more than makes up for the surly server.

When we first arrive in restaurant we were seated at a booth even though I said 5 and the restaurant was empty except for one other table. We waited for the waitress to clear the other table and pack up there food before they gave us our menus all awhile she was talking on the phone. There was another lady there but couldn't hand us menus. After what seemed like a eternity for the waitress to take our order my family and I ordered orange chicken, Mongolian beef, and happy family. The food was really bland. Two of our dishes we're suppose to be spicy....not at all. The egg flower soup was really thick and not tasty. The egg rolls were all wrapper and cabbage. I was not impressed with the food or the service. Next time we're going to Silver dragon.

We had some great Chinese here tonight... Crab puffs were great so too was the orange chicken.

Yes, unassuming from the outside, and better than average food. Service was great for take-out. Seems it would be cramped to eat there. Very busy, which is a good sign. The food was all good. They don't serve soup for take-out. The order was ready and waiting in 15 minutes For Chinese food in the Rogue Valley, it's better than most, I'd recommend it and will be back.

My husband and I tried this place a few months ago and I was definitely underwhelmed by the taste of the food. The fried rice had no flavor and the quality of the meat and dishes seemed pretty poor. It wasn't the worst Chinese food I've ever had, however I wouldn't return. The service is was good overall with no complaints which is a plus, but save your money and go somewhere else.

  • Andy W.

Looking unassuming from the outside, Yummy Yans does offer promise that it could be better than your typical Medford Chinese food experience. How do I arrive at this conclusion, you ask? Simple I say: it does not say "Chinese and American food" on the sign outside. Offering food far better than Silver Dragon (still can't figure out why that place is so highly rated) Yans offers a wide selection of usual Americanized Chinese choices. I like the Singapore chow mein. It has a nice curry flavor, and Sesame beef is pretty good too. I am kind of snobby and don't get the Medford appeal of mar far chicken and pink sauce. They offer these too though if desired. But the real pleasure of Yans is Sally. She is the owner/hostess and she is a sweetheart. She always remembers the customer's names and is bubbly and attentive to the tables.

Tasted fresher than most Chinese places. Huge portions. Priced well. Very friendly. Stopped in to just give it a try since we didn't know of a good place in town. So glad we did.

Went here with the girlfriend last night. We asked about ordering a dish of noodles, and we eventually decided on a particular course of chow mein. However, once we informed our waitress that we also wanted rice with the dish, it was suggested that we order the chop suey instead. Once the main course arrived...well...let's just say it definitely wasn't chow mein OR chop suey. We received an entire plate of nothing but bean sprouts...hurray. How delightful. So, seeing that we were obviously displeased, the big boss came over (heavy-set, rude caucasian woman). We explained that what we wanted was noodles, as we had previously mentioned when ordering, and then our knowledge of "traditional, authentic' Chinese cuisine was insulted when we were informed that "when you get something that isn't from the mall, this is what it looks like." Now...no offense, but I'm from Northern California, a part of the world that is about as diverse as it gets, and let me tell you: CHOP SUEY IS NOT SIMPLY A PLATE OF SPROUTS!! But beside that, when a person tells you they want noodles, you don't recommend a dish without any noodle of any kind, and then tell them that they don't know what traditional asian cuisine consists of. Anyway! We ended up ordering a new plate of noodles, and it was brought out pretty quickly. No, it wasn't anything special, and ironically tasted exactly like "something you'd get from the mall," but it served its purpose and filled us up. When it came time to leave, they wouldn't even offer to remove the original order of chop suey from the bill, which we hadn't even taken a single bite of, and that single action is probably what led me to write this review. Everyone comes across places that aren't very decent in the category of taste, but poor customer service is what people truly remember. On another note, the same woman (the heavy-set one) was very rude to a younger, asian employee the entire time we were there, and I felt bad for her... I hope she finds something else in the near-future. We will keep looking for quality asian cuisine in Medford, and will definitely not be revisiting "Yummy Yan's."

The food is great, and inexpensive.. Even after going there once they remember who you are. We showed up with our kids one night just as they were closing. The hostess saw us out the window, and opened back up for us. We were impressed!

Americanized Chinese for when you have that urge. Beats every other place in town. Decent portions, especially the family meals. C for two!

  • Sher G.

Was more authentic than New China. The mar far chicken and fried shrimp were good! The egg flower soup was way better than New China. Fried rice needed lots of soy sauce. The broccoli beef was good but a lot more broccoli than beef. My biggest complaint was the waitress (the chubby blonde one). She brought me one small box and tried to mix all my food into one container without even asking! Gross! :O I asked for separate boxes and she made a rude comment about how full they won't be then. Pfft! At least the other people were chinese and nice, I think they own the place.

  • Jonah K.

The food here (takeout) is okay. Not awesome, not bad, not greasy. On the other hand, the service really excels. The hostess was very friendly when the order was placed over the phone and when I came in to pick it up. Naturally, that's a big plus, and not something you can find everywhere.

Not my favorite Chinese restaurant Medford has to offer but still pretty good. Staff was incredibly friendly and the broccoli beef was good. The fried rice tasted quite bland. Overall decent but not my first choice for Chinese food.

We ate here after Star Trek, glad to find that this restaurant, recommended by friends as "better than Silver Dragon", was open until 10 pm. I noticed, however, that there were only half as many cars parked there compared to Natalee Thai next door. An omen? Similar to the Dragon, the portions were humongous but at Yummy Yan's were actually yummy! We ordered two spicy dishes but the waitperson admitted when we left that they toned them down for us Caucasian types (boo). What did they think, that we were from Medford or somethin'? The beef and pork were standard for S. Oregon, but the shrimp was like Panda Garden's, to be avoided. The menu was fairly typical with no surprises; the soup was very tasty. Yeah, I'd eat here again under similar circumstances.

Yummy yans is excellent. The only reason It gets 4 stars is the location of the restaurant. I have tried at least 60% of the menu and have not been disappointed once. With any chinese food the price is right and the portions are huge. The wait staff is always nice and take care of your every need. They have the best hot tea and it's always on the house. My favorite is the 4 treasure in garlic sauce. It is chicken, beef, pork and shrimp in a garlic sauce with all kinds of fresh vegetables. It also comes with a huge bowl of white rice which can be substituted for fried rice at little cost. The soups are very good as well from egg flower to hot and sour they both were excellent. The soups is not available with to go orders and I wish it was. They also have nightly specials and they are always at a great price. Give them a try I am a regular and will continue to try different items on the menu.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
