Best soup ever!!! I am in love with their potato soup and bread bowl!!!! I've sampled other soups but keep getting the potato soup. Hidden gem in Medford!

Very cute, very small but wonderful food & service! Great selection of soups, sandwiches, salads & more. Best cheddar broccoli soup that's gluten free, and I also liked their chili with beef & beans. For those who are not gluten free you can order the soup in a bread bowl. You can get your order to go or stay & either eat inside or sit outside. It's located near other little shops & the movie theatre so there's plenty to do & see.

Cute little place. Very friendly service. I am a cook so I would be shocked if they were homemade. They tasted processed to me. To be fair, that would be asking a lot of a small town place to have that many homemade soups on hand.

Perfectly acceptable little soup bar that also offers sandwiches and salads. It's hard to beat the pricing - a bowl of soup with a roll is around five bucks and is plenty filling for supper. One of the best bargain lunches / dinners in town. Ambiance is sweet and cozy (toasty fireplace!) - nice enough for us to use as a venue for an extended family anniversary party (when was the last time you picked up the dinner tab for a party of 10 and had it come in at less than $100?). Service is extremely friendly. I don't mean extreme in the 'have a super sparkly day' kind of way ... rather that nothing is too much trouble. Taste soups to your heart's content until you find one you want to commit to; ask for coffee and they'll make a fresh pot; call ahead to have your take-away order ready for you to grab and go. They also have a selection of candy bars at the counter for a dollar, which I've occasionally bought and dropped into the bottom of my purse if I'm planning to take in a movie afterward. So naughty ... :-P

Totally delicious place! All homemade soups, which are 10 everyday. They have standing soup choices of loaded baked potato, and split pea with ham, and then there are the daily specials. Sandwiches are generous portions, and they have salads and such too. I can't get past the soup in a bread bowl myself! Yum!

I'm giving Sophia's a two star rating because my companions were happier with their choices than I was with mine, so I'm basing the review on MY experience. This was my second visit to Sophia's. The first time hubby and I were just killing time so just had coffee/tea. Very reasonable price and nice and hot. The place is small, but it was clean the the staff was friendly. The second time hubs, a friend and I went for lunch on a Saturday. The small size did create a bit of an interesting situation in that there were no tables available when we first came in. Luckily (?) it took quite a while to get through the line (only two people in front of us) so by that time a couple of tables had cleared. This is actually a potentially big con: the order process was S-L-O-W. We all ordered soup and various sandwiches. The tomato gorgonzola soup was the popular soup that day as hubs cup was the the last of the pot. Unfortunately, our soup was only lukewarm. It was a cold January day so I was hoping for a nice HOT bowl of soup. The taste was okay, but it didn't blow me away. My friend had the broccoli cheddar, which she also said was not HOT, but she said it tasted good. For the sandwiches, friend had a turkey cranberry wrap from the fridge case, which she said was really good. Hubs had a half pastrami, which he also said was good. I had a turkey pesto pannini, which I just thought was okay. I also thought the pannini prices were too high for the portion. My pannini came out looking very smooshed and you really couldn't see any of the "guts" of the sandwich. I also wish they had asked me if I wanted onions. I didn't realize it came with onions and I wouldn't have ordered it that way. I am completely willing to give Sophia's another shot, to try different soups and sandwiches, despite my lukewarm experience this time. I am so intrigued by the peanut butter-nutella pannini! I will update my review after my next visit.

Not sure where the meh reviews are coming from. We've eaten at Sophia's dozens of times and never had a bad or mediocre experience. The soups are flavorful and piping hot, the sandwiches are large but well proportioned and service is always fast and friendly. A solid four stars every time.

I like this place. I like the soup and I'm not really a soup person. I like that its open for lunch and late enough to grab a quick dinner. The Broccoli Cheese soup is fantastic. I tried their wraps and panini's and it wasn't my thing but the soup makes up for it. I'm glad there is a quick place to grab a bowl of soup for a filling meal around here.

I have to agree with Darby S. The soups are good, but the same as any restaurant in town. The soups do not seem 'homemade'. Maybe frozen soups that are jazzed up with some extra spices, etc. The salads are just okay, prepackaged, prefab, get it yourself out of the cooler. Good vegetarian selection. I haven't tried the sandwiches. Still, a good selection of soups with decent flavor.

I'm calling BS!!! The owner will tell you they make the soup in house or "its homemade". This selection of soups is the standard commercial restaurant line up, of frozen soups. Cash and carry stocks these soups, full of additive flavoring and preservatives. Not at all hand crafted but not canned either, the quality is"fair". They are certainly eatable but it really disappointed me when I got my bowl and tasted the very familiar commercial broccoli cheese soup. The exact same selection at Fred Meyer soup bar, which is less money. The salads are from a bag lettuce, which is ok, if you soak the lettuce first. When the lettuce is squeaky, its because it has dried out in a bag and the food preparer has taken it from bag to plate. Girls..... soak it in water with ice floating, wash it and spin it first, the quality will improve immediately. The place is really, cute clean and the service is friendly. They should own what they are. A quick serve soup bar and stop trying to sell themselves as hand crafted momma's kitchen soup. NOT!!!

I've only eaten there once, so don't take this review as fact. I plan to go back again because you can't get an accurate picture of a place from one visit. But for now I give it an average rating due to the fact that the vegetable medley soup that I had was very bland and the bread bowl that it came in was dry and tasteless (my typical experience with Artisan's bread). I will change this rating when I go back if another soup is better. Contrary to other opinions here, the prices are very reasonable. This place isn't serving Campbell's Chicken Noodle soup. It's fresh made soup with quality ingredients. A large to-go container of soup and a bread bowl was the same price of a sub at Subway.

Oh Sophia! You were just what my family needed after a morning of mixed doubles in the park by South Medford high. On no breakfast. So we drove around looking for some place with sandwiches which was surprisingly hard to find. We finally pulled into this mall type thing which was extremely unfortunately anchored by Circuit City and Countrywide Home loans. Ouch. The first thing we saw as we approached the outdoor mall was a sign for Sophia's Soup Factory. Hmm, soup, salads...sandwiches? Check! We went inside. The first thing you see is a big drinks fridge which also contains salads and wraps to go, and then the soup counter. The lady who runs the place (presumably Sophia) is really nice, offers tiny cups of soup samples, and has customers she knows by name. This place reminded me of a sandwich shop I ate at in Stratford, fitting since we were in town for the Oregon Shakespeare Festival. I might have just been insanely hungry, but I might have had the best tomato basil soup I've ever had, ever. (Disclosure: I've only ever had tomato basil soup at chain restaurants and from boxes. Yikes. Oh and once at the atrocious Oswego Grill.) It had just the right balance of basil and was deliciously creamy. I also had a half tuna wrap, which was just tuna salad and lettuce wrapped up in a tortilla, but was a nice complement to the soup and also tasty. Dad complained about the amount of mustard on his sandwich, but Dad always finds something to complain about. Mom raved about the tomato basil soup and her macaroni salad, and Brother wolfed down a cup of clam chowder. We hit the road to Ashland to see a play, renewed and satiated. Will definitely return at OSF time next year.

Went to get a hot bowl of soup to warm me bones. Got a luke warm cup of broth with a couple of over cooked vegetables. GROSS!!! Oh don't even get me started on how incredibly over priced every item is. Drinks are marked up to exuberant rates. This isn't a movie theater, you don't need to charge that much. Let's not even get started on the level of bad customer service I received, and my smooshed stale bread bowl. Really? Really? I really expected more, soooooo disappointing.

Honestly Sophia's Soup Factory could easily rate a 4 or possibly even a 5-star rating, however I just can not do it based on their service speed. We come here for lunch often. The downside is that lunch is only a half an hour long and it's a bit of a drive. Now most of the time it works out, we have to get our soup to go and eat it back at the office. We arrived at lunch today looking forward to a nice bowl of soup and the line was backed up to the door - very busy today! Now if I were to judge the customer service based solely on the way they greet each customer and treat you well, there wouldn't be an issue. The owner of the store is incredibly nice, gives you samples of the soups if you don't know which you want, and takes her time with each customer - which is wonderful. Again though, when there is a line you have to pick up the pace. The thing that bothers me the most is that there is another girl that is working and I never see her waiting on customers or ringing up orders. That was the sight we saw today when we arrived for lunch, there were at least 8 people in line ahead of us. We arrived at 12:10 (20 minutes left for lunch - which we planned on getting to go). The women in the front of the line were each devouring samples of soups, the owner was packaging their variety of soups to go, and the other girl that works there was doing something in the back. We left at 12:15 and the same people were in the front of the line, we hadn't moved an inch and other people were saying how SLOW the line moves. I really struggle to see how this can be, it's a no brainer. The soups are sitting in their warmers so they're ready to go and why they don't have one of the staff scooping soup and the other ringing up the orders I do not understand. It was VERY frustrating and I wasn't real happy leaving empty handed. The saving grace here would be the variety of soups available. They always have at least 10 different types and most are pretty good - however the clam chowder tends to have a bit of a fishy taste so I avoid that one. The loaded baked potato lacks a bit of flavor - if you like that soup try Kaleidoscope's version. The roasted red pepper is delicious. :) And someday when the line isn't as long, I'm going after the tomato bisque.... So, overall the soup is great and a fun lunch idea, but the wait is horrendous if you're unlucky enough to find yourself in a line here.
