I'm writing this as I'm still too full to move after dinner at Amelia's. I would have been happy if my family would have just rolled me out of the restaurant and into our car. Amelia's has opened up a second location right across (or behind) Intel. If you already love their first location, you're sure to love this one. From what I remember, it's pretty much the same menu. Their service is exceptionally nice! Our young server same over right away and told us about the menu. We ordered Mexican Cokes and Fantas in a bottle and as they came out, so did the steaming hot tortillas with their delicious salsa. Our orders for the evening were Enchiladas Morelianas, Tacos al Carbon (which I always get nervous ordering for fear of cussing. If you speak Spanish, you understand), tortilla soup, and taquitos de pollo. All of us were happy with our choices. The soup and tacos came with lime, the taquitos with guacamole, and the tacos and taquitos with smaller salsa "cazuelitas" that complimented the food. I can't say enough about the service. They're so kind and attentive. A table near us had questions about the menu and the server took time to explain and answer all of their questions. We were taken care of throughout the meal as well. Be on the lookout for their new website which should be up sometime around Feb 10th. There might be sign-ups and other discounts on the website (shh, it's a secret). We were also told they accept reservations for lunch since it gets so packed with the Intel crowd. Oh, and another secret, they might soon offer a 10% discount for Intel employees. Shh, again.

The food here was really really good. One of the better Mexican places I've been to. I had the quesadilla, which was not on their menu, but they made a vegetarian one for me on request. The complementary warm tortillas were a pleasant change from the usual chips and salsa that most Mexican places serve. Only complaint is the service was really slow when I went.. We waited close to 45 mins to get our order. We went for lunch on a Friday, and the manager said Friday lunch is a little chaotic since large parties come in. Lastly, I will definitely go back.. Maybe just not for Friday lunch :)

We have been wanting to give this place a try for quite awhile, I'm so glad we finally did! We are from Denver and are spoiled by really amazing Mexican food. Amelia's is the closet we've gotten here in Portland. The salsa was fantastic! and the tortillas they served with it wonderful, although we would have enjoyed a couple more (they brought one a piece, not enough to enjoy the salsa with). My son and I both ordered the crispy rellano special and were quite impressed, everything was prepared beautifully and the flavor was outstanding! We went last night, Friday, after work. They weren't terribly busy but apparently a party of over 20 people had arrived shortly before us. The waitress was kind and let us know that our orders might be delayed and asked if we would mind. We told her it was fine, we didn't mind waiting and thanked her for the warning. within minutes after ordering we were presented with piping hot meals by the manager/owner with the explaination that he didn't want us to have to wait and chose to serve us before the large party! This crew understands customer satisfaction! We will definitely be visiting them again and again and again.....

Am here with my mom and I will definitely be bringing my husband here! The Tostada Oaxaqeña is the best tostada salad I've ever had! My mom and I ordered the same thing so I only have the suggestion for the salad, but if anything else is as good as this then it is wonderful. Delicious. Unfortunately, they do not serve alcohol YET but have applied for a liquor license, so hopefully I can have a yummy margarita next time! I definitely recommend this place. Nice service, have TVs, and mariachi music. I love it!

The best restaurant in miles!! This place will not disappoint. Fish tacos are amazing, burritos delicious... Looking forward to trying everything on the menu!

The food here is better than the average Mexican restaurant. It seems fresher and the sauces more flavorful. The platted food is beautiful. The restaurant is simple with bright colors and very clean. Also, if you work for Intel or have an Intel badge you get 10% off. I have three reasons why I am not giving Amelia's 5 stars: #1 They are not substitution friendly- at all. They have a 3 enchilada combo they will not take out one enchilada for and sub for a tamale- even though they have a 2 tamale combo for the same price without charging you $3, which seems a little excessive. #2 They serve tortillas instead of chips when you sit down. I miss the crunch. The tortilla is not satisfying and bland with salsa. #3 Difficulty with takeout orders placed on the phone. Typically they get something wrong or seem to be flustered, or annoyed by the order. All in all, I would recommend Amelia's to a friend if you are going to the restaurant for some fresh Mexican food in Hillsboro.

Friday evening visit. After waiting to be seated, we were led to a table which was dirty, there were food droppings on the chairs, paper napkins on the floor. Took over 50 minutes to get our order. Plates were dirty and had to be sent back. Grossly understaffed. Food was just about OK, but by the time it arrived, the experience was soured.

I am a little torn on this review. The new location is spacious and inviting and super clean. However, we arrived for our usual late lunch and we were the only ones there, but we got sat in a very small 2 top, the next couple got a nice roomy 4 top, not sure why we did not even get a choice, small annoyance. By the time you get your entrees, drinks, the complimentary salsa and tortillas it is quite crowded on your table. The service was adequate. I have a little bit of a hearing loss so between the two TV's with audio, and the piped in music it was pretty hard to hear my husband. As you have read instead of chips and salsa you get homemade tortillas and fresh salsa, not my favorite, I enjoy my chips and salsa. Hubby ordered Posole with Pork, it was quite good, almost as good as mine. I ordered the Chili Relleno, one of my favorites, I did not care for the batter, it did not seem like the egg white batter that we use, also the sauce was on the sweet side and pretty thick. The Relleno was on the cool side and the cheese was hard. I was fairly disappointed. Traditionally or at least our tradition is to serve it with a soupy meat sauce. Overall it was OK, I am not in a huge hurry to go back, although if Hubby needs a Posole fix and I don't feel like making it, he can get it here.

The cochinita pibil (Pork, Mayan style) was delicious, and I wish I'd ordered it instead of the mole poblano with poached chicken. The mole was fine, but the chicken was odd--kind of chewy. Thus the 4 instead of 5 stars, although the flan was so incredibly good that I'd give it a 10 if I could. I think it was the burnt butter sauce that took it over the top for me. The restaurant has a more modern decor than the Amelia's in downtown Hillsboro, so I don't get the "Rustic" name.

They are still wowing me. I get the Azabache Burrito when I go and tonight was no different. Tonight I ordered it minus the tortilla and it was still awesome. The other news is they are able to sell drinks now with their full bar. I had the Cadillac margarita. It was very good.

The fish Tacos are OFF THE HOOK! The fish tacos are what makes this place great in my opinion, I have not had fish tacos nearly as good anywhere else in Portland Metro or in my personal experience in North America. (I recently went to Van BC and Texas/Mex Border and haven't had any tacos that compare with Amelia's in Hillsboro) The new space is SPACIOUS, it is really open and airy it is huge compared to their downtown location on 4th & Main. But, it still has the same intimate & cozy feel as well. The service was great, everyone was really friendly and helpful, the only down side is they didn't really promote their daily specials that well, so if you couldn't see the board that well, and if you forgot to go out of your way to look-you were kinda out of luck in that aspect. Amelia's is one of the best dining experiences in Hillsboro-proper, check it out for good Mexican food if you haven't yet!

As we were on the way to get pizza and passed by Amelia's our minds quickly changed and instantly wanted AUTHENTIC HOMEMADE Mexican food instead of a "heart shaped" P.M. pizza :) Upon entrance, this place is welcoming and clean with beautiful decor/accent pieces coordinating with the walls painted in warm colors. Let me not forget to mention the space~ looking from the outside my first thought was a small 10 table or so establishment with squeaky chairs and sticky floors but it isn't anything like that. It has a bar area but their liquor license will not be in until mid March, equipped with two nice size 52" or so showcasing whichever sport is being televised. Smooth upbeat music serenading through the place was another way to relax you and sip your beverage while waiting on your food. The front line staff were all handsome men ranging in ages 21-37. We were greeted immediately and seated in the same manner. Instead of chips and salsa, they serve Warm Tortillas with salsa. It was great although I was a little reluctant to only eat tortillas dipped in salsa~which was so great its bottled up for you to enjoy at home :) Since the men are in the front, the women are in the kitchen whipping up the meals. I enjoyed Tamales con Pollo along with an Asada taco on the side {larger than a street taco but smaller than a burrito}. James enjoyed Tacos con Pescado {Basa/Swai} which was lightly fried in a pretty golden brown coating topped with cilantro and shredded cabbage. Besides ice water we drank Sprite and Coca Cola but we will return when Margaritas are available :) So, all in all, if you are seeking a great authentic meal this is where you want to check out.

I've been to Amelia's (across from Intel Jones Farm) 3 times now..twice for lunch..once for dinner. All 3 times the food didn't disappoint. Their food is excellent... You can tell they care about serving a high quality product. No, giant round plates ala Mazatlan or Dicey Tortilla Chips & Salsa ala Juan Colorado. Instead...warm tortillas served with fresh tasty like homemade salsa. Yum. I think the service will improve over time...for now the wait staff is made up of teenagers...a little nervous...mostly forgetful...but doing their best under the pressure of a popular new restaurant. The place has a great buzz during the lunch hour...mostly from a crowd of Intel coworkers chatting away...reminds me of Thai Princess...great food, good service, and ppl delighted. Dinner is totally different..far less ppl..no sense of privacy because there's no music playing to drown the sound of conversations...and the lighting is not dimmed so you really 'notice' those seated around you...forced to whisper for fear of eavesdropping. I would suggest playing some nice mariachi music throughout the restaurant, dimming the lights..setting up candlelights for dinner, and decorating the walls with photographs of Mexico and/or art that compliments their homemade-like delicious food! I wish the business-owners continued success for the long run. Having a place to "walk to" for lunch is fantastic! No hassle having to find parking! Thank you! Suggestion: Mariachi Sol De Mexico Radio - Pandora

I have reviewed the original restaurant before, and I wrote an article about the family in the local paper. But until last night, I had not been to the new place. WOW. It's like the original on steroids! The decor is awesome, you can see right into the kitchen. The menu is expanded and both our new selections were so good we wanted to take the chef home! They still serve the signature tortillas and salsa to start, and the new queso is very yummy. I wish they'd add a few desserts, but other than that, you can get much better. Actual FLAVOR in the mexican food. It's authentic and it is served with love. The owners are not the type to be hands off--they laid the flooring and painted themselves. They oversee the menu. They are just amazing. My hat is off to you Amelia's! May this be the second of MANY restaurants!

I like this restaurant quite a bit but I've stopped going. Why? Because no matter what I order they can not get it right. Order chicken tamales? Get pork. Order a tostada? Get one covered in chorizo. Order a side of guacamole? Never shows up till meal almost over. I've tried adjusting to different times of day, different business levels. Etc and still errors continue. I think they don't have an expeditor in the kitchen to make sure orders get out correctly. Makes me sad. I like this place.

Huge fan of Amelia's in downtown Hillsboro, so when my friends told me they opened a second location right next to the Intel campus I had to go for lunch the next day. Their tortillas are so good. My friend who generally shies away from carbs (New Years resolution) had two of them.. It also came with their salsa which had a good kick. I ordered the lamb shank which was delicious. The meat was tender and super flavorful. Sometimes I avoid lamb because it has a gamey smell, but this was so good. Definitely getting it again. My friend got the chicken mole, which she raved about. I am not a fan of mole in general so I'm a bit biased. But my other friends that tried it really enjoyed it too. My sister ordered the fish tacos which she said was really fresh. Someone else got the tamales which were so good.. I wanted to order some for myself.. But my new pair of jeans wouldn't let me.. Definitely coming back!

Lunch portions are huge!!!! Very tasty preparations. Everyone was very happy with their selections. Fresh homemade tortillas fresh veggie ingredients. Service staff was very good at checking in, ensuring we had water, handling special requests. We will definitely be back!

Based on the wonderful and flavorful food I ate at the downtown Hillsboro location, we decided to go there for lunch this friday. The place was not that busy so we expected decent service and food. We had to wait a while for anyone to take our order and we had to tell them to get our food quickly since we had to get back to work. Have to say that the food arrived fairly quickly buy it was so bland. We had asked for extra vegetables in the enchiladas which were hardly there (a few strands of lettuce) and when the server asked if all was okay, we asked for some jalapeños which arrived when we were finishing our last bites. I did feel short changed when they charged $5+ for the non existent vegetables and the jalapeños Needless to say, not too excited to go back there even though it is right next to where we work.

Fantastic food! Nothing was greasy or overly salty. The chorizo and steak were perfectly seasoned without having to rely on lots of salt to make the meal "taste good". Wonderful handmade corn tortillas that were delicious and chewy. Truly one of my best dining experiences yet!

I can honestly, this is the best mexican restaurant on the west side. These guy are incredible. They come up with such great dishes, and all so fresh and full of flavor. So differen tthan your normal mexican restaurant. What you're looking at is the ihe pinnacle of Mexcian cusine, yet not beholden to TexMex like al lot of Mexcian restaurant are. I hope that all of you will be able to experience great Mexican food with great service at this location. There are two of them, but thi is the bes tone. Kudos to the people who are working there, becaues the food is good and service is just as good. Clearly discerning people. Give them your business!!!

Awesome. Service was friendly, the food was the best Mexican we've had in a while (even living in Hillsboro), and the atmosphere was an interesting change of pace. Not a lot of Mexican paraphernalia, mostly bright colors and nice furniture. Beans, rice, tortillas, salsa, fish tacos, and enchiladas were all great. Nothing was made without a lot of care put into it. Even the bill the kind of neat; has a few prefilled check boxes so you don't need to worry about offending the wait staff with your awful math. We'll be back often for sure.

Had the soup. I don't think it was that great; it wasn't even hot. When this location was used by another restaurant, I visited several times. They had done a beautiful job on the decor. Now the inside of the place looks like a cheap service station. Not impressed by the food or the look of the place.

Love this place. I appreciate the atmosphere of the original location because I like the hole in the wall feel but the food is great at both places.

The food was great as always but our experience was not enjoyable. The employees were cleaning, mopping and rushing all around us as if they couldn't wait to close shop. They were rude to customers who came in after us and were adamant that they were closing at 8 pm. Customers arriving at 7:30 were basically told to hurry up and order or leave. I felt very rushed and uncomfortable despite the fact that we left before 7:45. The owners should be ashamed of their employees customer service!

This place is great! I see a lot of you complain about the time you wait for your food. But, I was just recently at Buffalo Wild Wings and other places like that where you obviously know the food is not fresh and waited 45+ mins for my food. So I really don't mind waiting at all for FRESH & MADE FROM SCRATCH food. Everyone should definitely visit or give them a second try.

So fair this is the best Mexican restaurant in Hillsboro. The mole was perfect, I am definitely going back.

We arrived at 8:20 pm and they just let us in (they close kitchen at 8:30). Customers who came in after us were sent to the other Amelia's chain. The tortillas were fresh and had a homemade fermented touch. I ordered the Jalapeno Enchiladas vegetarian and my friend ordered enchiladas de queso. Both the dishes were very good. I liked the Enchiladas Jalapenos cause it was medium hot. We were served quickly. The ambience was good too.

Great food, service was not bad, once they get there liquor license established that will help to have a beer or Margaret's. Food took a long time to come out. And for us the biggest thing was that they didn't serve chips and salsa they did serve soft tortillas with salsa in my humble opinion they should offer chips.

My husband and I have been searching for a great Mexican restaurant since we moved to this area seven months ago. We decided to try Amelia's and we were not disappointed. Located next to Intel, the restaurant was immaculate and tastefully decorated. To start, we were served their homemade tortillas with salsa. The tortillas were soft, fresh, and warm and a welcome change from the typical chips served at most Mexican restaurants. I would qualify the salsa as perfect. Great spice and consistency. I ordered the enchiladas verdes with shredded beef. My husband had the bistec al arriero. Our daughter had the kids cheese quesadilla. All of our meals were large portioned and beautifully plated. Amazing, authentic, not overly americanized food. Our servers were attentive and friendly but didn't hover over us the whole time we ate, which we appreciate. Overall, I was thrilled to find this restaurant and we will definitely be regulars from now on.

Service is SLOW. Food just ok, small portions, expensive for what you get. Never got full order, won't be back will continue to go to Pepper's to get super service and excellent food.

Agree with other Yelpers that the tortillas are too thick. I also didn't care for the soft tortillas served with salsa. It felt weird and wrong so we ordered tortilla chips and received a basket of the same thick tortillas turned into 'chips'. They were so hard and stale- totally inedible - it was like eating domino game chips. They did take it off our bill when I mentioned it. Service was slow and inattentive at lunch. We waited 45+ minutes for our food without a word from the waitstaff until I asked about our order. Maybe we were so irritated by the time we received our food that it just didn't taste great - bland and unexciting. Had to ask for a spicier salsa. Disappointed because the reviews were promising.

Here are the pros: --Good flavor food --Great Guacamole and chips Cons which unfortunately outweigh the pros: --We waited 15 mins for someone to come to our table after being seated. --We went there for lunch and it took 45 mins for our food to arrive. --We wanted to order drinks but the server seemed least interested in taking our order --We ordered an appetizer and specifically requested that it not arrive with the entrees. Guess what? It came after the entrees were served! I mention this to the server and she replies "Yup!" Wow great service right? --Request for food to be served hot was also ignored. in fact my food came completely lukewarm at best. --This was our second experience, so I wrote to them. Received an apologetic reply with a promise of a gift card with no request for information on where to send the gift card. Why bother to offer something when you have no intention of following through? The feedback was not given with the intention of receiving something in return. Our bill was over $100, next time I will take my business elsewhere.

One star for the young female server, as she was the ONLY positive thing about our visit to Amelia's Rustic Restaurant . We are loyal diners at the original Amelia's and were very disappointed in our visit to this restaurant. Many many employees tripping over one another and a (I think) manager with a bad attitude glaring over everything and everyone. We sat and were greeted by an unsmiling server who brought us doughy tortillas and a very small container of salsa. We ordered and were subsequently ignored until our meal was brought out VERY cold and very salty. Not one of the waiters or the Manager came by our table to see how the meal was..... not at all. We ate what we could and asked one of the employees who was running around aimlessly for our check. The supposed Manager with said bad attitude walked up to our table and very coldly said "here" and nearly tossed the bill at me. I have never been treated this badly at any restaurant. The atmosphere is cold and rude and the waiters, except the young woman never smiled once and the Manager needs a kick.... somewhere well placed.... I could go on but they are not worth any more of my time. Good luck, I hope you find them on a better day than we did.

Super slow service on Friday at lunch. Waited nearly 1 hour for food and wasn't checked in on to explain or barely even and apology and didn't even get chips/tortilla and salsa as a compensation. Food was decent though.

Loved the taquitos I had for lunch. Plenty of food and delicious. Just question being told they were using the Dinner menu for Lunch on a Saturday at noon. I didn't hear anyone else being told that, just myself. Cost me an extra $3 but provided a larger serving. I would have been happy with the smaller serving.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
