I've been to the Caribbean.... this place does a mediocre job at best to capture the flavors of it. For my first time going there, I expected a little more service, but it seemed the regulars get the attention/good service... which is OK, but why would I want to come back if I felt I was being ignored? My girlfriend asked to have her salad without croutons, and her dinner without the bread, due to her allergy. Needless to say, the waitress could not have cared less, and brought it out with bread anyways, which, the bread tasted like burnt oil. When she noticed me picking it off, said "oooooh, you have a wheat allergy" and we said "yeaah, that's why we told you at the beginning." Won't be going back due to lack of service and unimpressive taste.

What we ate: Coconut curry Grilled stuffed avocado Johnny bowl (w/ ahi) So happy we found this place! We just stumbled upon this restaurant by chance (on our road trip up to Seattle). Everything was fairly priced (around $10 -- except the ahi). We really liked all our food, especially the grilled stuffed avocado! Friendly servers too :). If I'm in the area, definitely will come back here.

I must say their quality of food and the quantity is perfect for what you pay for. I got coconut curry with pawns and we were shock because we came from California for road trip and we just stopped by here not expecting anything since there werent too many people but the food is amazing. my friend got stuffed grilled avocado with Caribbean rice and that's money. gives you tons of avocados and bacons. perfect with some beers. and yes. all the servers were very nice and friendly and I would DEF come back here if I'm in the area again.

This place is a glorified fast food restaurant. The service was scrappy and my $13 salad was mostly lettuce with extremely dry chicken and when the waiter asked if I liked it I said no and he did absolutely nothing about it. I will never eat here again

Food is Carribean/eclectic/American. I had the Patty Melt with Fries. Beef was of good quality as was cheese and grilled onions. Bread was marbled rye- Yum! Fries were good and had a batter-like finish. Service was good and place was clean. It is a nice setting with views in one area of the Oakway Mall courtyard. Worth a stop. Check the daily special when there!

I've been going to Johnny Ocean's since way back in the day when it had a jukebox and their burgers were wrapped in paper. This was the spot my grandma and I loved, and it still remains my favorite! The only thing that has changed is the Caribbean decor. When someone asks me where the best burger in Eugene is... I always say Johnny Ocean's. It all has to do with the magical 'Johnny Sauce'. I could eat this sauce with everything... My mouth is watering just thinking about it. I always order a big side of it to dip my fries! The owner is one of the nicest guys, and always greets you when he's there.

I really wanted to like this place but the food doesn't do anything for me. I've given this place three chances so far and tried all the most popular dishes and I always leave with a weird taste in my mouth. I don't know what's going on with the stuffed avocados but there's something in it that just tastes strange to me. Perhaps it's the ginger and lime sauce? After awhile I just ate the avocado by itself. The Johnny's bowl looked and sounded really good but ended up being a total disappointment. Womp womp womp. I felt like there wasn't any harmony between all the ingredients and it fell short of what it could have been. So much potential for amazingness there. I should have gone to cafe yumm. Maybe the fourth time's the charm?

I got the Johnny chicken gourmet sandwich. I'm not sure a warmed up piece of preformed chicken, with some cold bbq sauce poured on after cooking, cheap lettuce and tomato, served on a sesame seed hamburger bun qualifies as gourmet. Only give the second star for the fries. My wife had a shrimp curry and had to ask for salt, under seasoned curry? Need to do better Johnny.

Came for dinner last night to celebrate my roommates birthday (3 adults & 1 11 yr old) and we were greeted by, my guess was the owner. We felt very welcomed & totally excited to try it out! All if us were more than happy with our meals! Tasty food & don't even get me started on those fries! They are exactly like the ones I craved that they sold in a cup at my high school almost 10 yrs ago. We will most def be back to try all the other foods that sounded magnificent!

My husband and I have come here three times. I really do like their grilled avocado and had a craving for it. Friday night I convince my husband to give it another try. Hmmm. Our first clue should have been that, unlike other restaurants we tried to get into, there was not a wait. In fact, many seats available. I ordered my usual and he opted for a chicken salad.... at $13.50. What he got was a breaded, dry piece of chicken thrown on a bit of lettuce with a few vegetables... canned black olives and the like. ....really... we would have been better off at Burger King. Also...no beers on tap.... bad news! Third time is not the charm.

Owner is always in when I come in and he always says hi to me bc he knows me now. I came with a friend and I tried the grilled stuffed avocado and now it's my favorite thing.. Minus the bacon. Add shrimp Super good food cool interior clean bathrooms. I recommend trying if you haven't. In the Oakway center and during the summer you can eat outside as well.

Coconut shrimp is falsely called coconut shrimp. If I wanted plain breaded prawns with coconut sprinkled on top as garnish I would have order fried prawns. Not fried coconut prawns. Planko breaded that is all. I needed the dipping sauce to eat this. Not what I expected not what I wanted when I ordered this. Coconut shrimp would get no stars. If I could. Please improve this recipe. The batter needs coconut in it not a garnish on top after cooking.

I heard from a few people that I had to try Johnny Ocean's, and being Caribbean, I decided to give it a try. All I can say is I'm kicking myself for not going sooner! The chicken wings were amazing, the best I've ever had, and that was just the beginning. I can't wait to go back and sample more.

Perfectly fine dinner fare- the coconut curry was filling, but lacked flavor. The fish and chips were really good and well done! The staff was really friendly and helpful!

We had a big group for dinner. The service was a little slow but that was fine, it was Wednesday night and there was a concert. We sat outside and it was really nice. This place is very casual and good food. The menu has great variety and it all seemed very fresh. Has a good kids meal and pricing is all round very good! I will return when I'm in Eugene!!

Came for the U of O IntroDucktion session last week and needed a break from the campus food for dinner with the family. Went to Oakway Center actually for shopping and found a few places to eat and looked at all the menus. The most appealing was Johnny Ocean]s Grille. Had a little bit of everything for everyone. An outrageous burger with two patties, swiss cheese, bacon and a fried egg like a "Loco Moco" Eugene style, Coconut Shrimp with a crisp Tempura like flaky crust. and a Thai Steak salad with a variety of fresh greens. Sean the proprietor came over to say hello and checked on us a few time sharing positive encouragement for the newest incoming Duck. He was an alumni himself and just celebrated his son's graduation a few weeks ago. The service staff were very congenial and attentive keeping our beverages filled. We were totally satisfied with a wonderful meal at a reasonable price while enjoying the outdoor patio atmosphere of the warm Summer weather.

I've been eating at Johnny Ocean's since it was located in West Eugene, and loved when it moved to Oakway and got even better. I've tried about half the food on their menu, and do not have one complaint. The owner comes out and visits with me EVERY time I am there, I see him making the rounds to his customers more than once during their meals. It's not upscale by any means, but it's relaxed and the food is delicious. Try the sweet potato fries with cilantro dipping sauce for an appetizer, and save room for a dessert made by the owner's wife.

What an odd place. Johnny Ocean's tries to be everything to everybody. They have everything from Pad Thai to a Philly Rollup. Their burgers are just frozen cheap patties you can get anywhere and they are expensive! We heard the manager or owner yelling at his cooks. It was so embarrassing. I will never go back.

Great choices and flavors. From hamburgers to Asian fare with friendly service this is a casual diner that should be on everyone's list when needing to satisfy different diners choice of cuisine.

Sorry Johnny. I'm snot going to come back after our last (and first) experience. My wife and I had a had a rare chance to snag lunch together a few weeks ago. We dont do this too much, however the stars and moons aligned just right, and we were snot going to let this opportunity pass us by. I'm snot going to say that this place is horrible. I really dont feel I had the full meal visit/experience that the owner would like his customers to have. As we were sat, we opened the menu's and started to check and see what they had for lunch. We were snot blown away by the selection, but there were a few items that grabbed my attention. The Steak Sandwich sounded just right. This is where things start to go awry. Our waitress was on our way to take our order. When she stopped at the table, she stood there, smiling, asking how our day was going. I couldn't help but notice that she had a cold. Or allergies. Or something amongst those lines that was causing her nose to run. And when I say, run.....I'm not joking....this girl had a large glob of SNOT (yes...all the "snot" referrances earlier were intentional), running from her nose. She sucked, inhaled and did everything short or using the back of her hand to wipe it away from her face. Poor girl. I do feel bad for her. But on the other hand, if this was happening....I would think she would try and deal with this in another way, like staying home for instance. After she left, she did make it back to the kitchen to wipe her nose. This was noticed as she brought our drinks back to the table. Thank god she did snot let it sit there a moment longer on her face. When the food was delivered, the mucus made its way back onto the upper lip of our server. *Vomit* I wasn't able to eat due to the concern and loss of appetite. I paid right around $15 for my lunch which went right into the garbage. I realize this is probably a one off and very unlikely to happen again.....But do you REALLY think I'm running back so willingly to try it again? Snot so much....

I have eaten here several times. The food has been consistently very good. The service is always excellent. The staff which includes the owner are very friendly and make you feel like an old friend. We have entertained out of town guests here and always receive compliments about how fun it was and how good the food was. The menu is varied, burgers, sandwiches, Thai food, salads, fish and chips etc......something for everyone. prices are reasonable.... $10-13 ish for dinner. Portion size is good, in fact if you are not starving you can easily split a meal. I will continue to eat here.

A small slice of paradise in Eugene. I enjoyed this restaurant even with the tacky decor and the television in the corner (which, to my dismay, my father appreciated). We started with the fried plantain chips which didn't really come out crispy but a little rubbery in the center. This didn't deter from the flavor and I have to admit that I nearly licked the dipping sauce from the plate. Fish tacos and Thai coconut curry were the lunch entrees and both were worth the money spent. While I am not a fan of fried fish in my fish tacos, the breading was light and added a little crunch to the dish. The Thai curry was good but spicy which was not specified on the menu (which would have been appreciated). The reason why this rating is a four instead of a three is because of the outstanding service and the incredible homemade pumpkin cheesecake that I have dreamed about several times since the meal. I will be back for more of the desserts made by the owner's wife! I would come back and try a different entree and maybe several of the desserts.

I liked my entree from here which was coconut curry shrimp and it tasted just as good as a thai restaurant would do. My wife did not care for her patty melt, but the kids liked their food. service was good.

What a surprise! With a name like Johnny Oceans, I expected to find a classic car hanging overhead with surfer music blasting from the corners. Who would have guessed we would find a gem of a restaurant in a mall? After a usual debate of trying something new vs. going with what we know, our family decided to try this little Caribbean style diner at the Oakway Mall in Eugene. The fun décor kept the mood light and we waited only minutes before they sat our party of 5 under a thatched covered table. The menu provided something for the diverse palate in my family: from the list of burgers to the vegetarian options. The service was exceptionally friendly and prompt. The amazing desserts in the case were only passed up because the dinner portions were bountiful. I am happy to add Johnny Oceans to our "know" list for the next family dinner out.

It a cool place. It really is. But I am REALLY BIG ON SERVICE and this place just doesnt have any. The girls working there (given I've only been 3 or 4 times and will never go back) have all been SUPER snobby and stuck up. Last time I went I stood at the register waiting for the pretty but dumb girl to get off her cell phone with her boyfriend and than she short changed me. When I brought this to her attention she was VERY rude about it. Needless to say the food was ok- very Sisco-y but I like that you can watch the people while they cook your food.

My wife and I had an opportunity to have a quick lunch w/o kids, and this place being close was chosen for the meal. We could choose our seat and decided to sit under the neat little "thatched roof" table. Reminded me a little of Hawaii so immediately I was in a good mood. Th staff was friendly and quick to attend to us. My wife had the portabella sandwich, and I had the jerked chicken sandwich. Both were very good, the only down side was the fries. Just didn't taste right, my wife thought maybe "fishy". It was a nice relaxing time, we will be back.

I thought it was going to be meh, but I ordered the grilled avocado stuffed with rice and served with a shrimp skewer. It was some of the best food I've had here in Eugene...seriously! And I loved sitting out next to Cold Stone, breathing in all the wonderful waffle cone smells...so good!

Maybe we just ordered the "wrong" dishes, but there just wasn't anything impressive about this place. I'm glad I had a coupon and didn't have to pay full price .. I would've felt ripped off.
