Barry's saved my summer. I was in Eugene helping care for a sick relative, and Barry's was right across the street from the hospital. (The hospital has since moved.) I can't say enough great things about this place. The staff is friendly and helpful. The food is fabulous. What did I love there? Barry's breakfast special -- egg and bacon and cheese and pesto on a challah roll. Bialys! An onion bialy with cream cheese, lox, lettuce, tomato, cucumber - wow! Incredible soups, including things like corn chowder and African peanut. Delicious quiches, usually several flavors a day. Grilled sandwiches. Fantastic knishes. Any sandwich is awesome because the challah is so good. Other baked items are yummy too - magic bars, muffins, coffee cakes, hamantaschen, and the mandatory black and white cookie. As someone who grew up on Jewish food in the NY area, I can vouch for Barry's. I finally made a pilgrimmage to Barry's other store, on 28th, and reached nirvana with the best noodle kugel west of New Jersey.

Gave Barry's a second chance and I'm glad I did. The sandwiches are giant. You only need a half, really. I had some coconut lentil soup which was also good. Vegetarian friendly spot. Will return.

Their reuben is to die for. Their special breakfast sandwich with eggs, cheese, tomato, pesto and bacon is awesome too. Pretty much everything I've had there has been worthy of 5 stars. They lose a star, though, because the water cups are the same dixie cups you used at snack time in preschool. Seriously, they probably hold 3 ounces tops and that ain't gonna quench my thirst.

Hahaha, five years in college and only in my final term do I finally go to Barry's Espresso! I gotta say that I really like their menu options: soups and sandwiches? Sure! I have a soft spot for Mama Leone's Chicken Soup thanks to Market of Choice, and I had the biggest smile on my face when I saw it on the menu! That plus a little spice added is the cure for the common cold I swear. Anyhow, their sandwich selections looked great, I opted to go with a cup of Mama's and half of a turkey, bacon, cheddar pannini. HALF of a sandwich is kind of a lot at Barry's. I got full fast. It wasn't the greatest pannini, I honestly think the dorms had better. The soup was served a little colder than I'd like, and the sandwich was alright. I'd go back to try something new because the menu looks very promising!

If you are looking for a great sandwich on campus, this is the place! Their challah is by far the best in town. There can be times when it is insanely busy (the hospital and campus are right at the door step), but those times are few and far between. The coffee left a bit to be desired, so I'd take a pass on that. Friendly wait staff, and fresh food.

The sandwiches are so big you can have half for lunch and save the other half for dinner. The bread is awesome and cut super thick. My fave is a pastrami and rye. Prices are ok. The girls working there have always been friendly. If you are tired of the torpedo sub thing and want a good old fashioned deli sandwich that is huge, then this is the place.

Barry's was one of my main stays while a student at the University of Oregon. It was excellent for a quick bite before or after class. The coffee was okay but the best items were the bialys, challah rolls and lox. I usually ordered a lox and cream cheese sandwich on a challah bun and a black and white cookie. You can get any Jewish treat here, among other east coast delicacies. I always make a point to come here when I'm back for a Duck game.

Very friendly service, the girl behind the counter was sweet, attentive and patient with me. She also seemed to know the name of every person that walked through the door. It was clean, and cozy, beautiful pastry presentation and relaxing music to add to the atmosphere. She did forget to make a called in sandwich but it in 3min, so I think he forgave her.

I loved this place. I've only been once and I ordered a simply egg salad sandwich on whole wheat. I didn't know that the a whole sandwich was behemoth and could easily feed four small children. That being said, I was in the mood for something simple and delicious and we found it here. I loved my sandwich! My daughter had their black bean soup and tuna on salad and we left stuffed and happy. I highly recommend this place! Note, order the half if you think you want just a sandwich! : )

Warm, friendly bakery with lots of espresso drinks and non-coffee drinks alike. Small, but heavily stocked pastry case serves some passable east-cost and Jewish favorites including black and white cookies, rugelach and knishes. Sandwiches as well as some hot food too (haven't personally tried) and a variety of dietary-friendly, tasty soups whose complete ingredient lists are close at hand upon inquiry. Perhaps I'm a little jaded because an order of their tasty matzo ball soup leaves me with only one matzo ball to enjoy; because a bialy toasted with cream cheese, tomato and red onion will never be "similar" to a bagel; or the fact that their sandwiches are designed to make those customers happy who love ridiculously thick slices of bread, to which I do not. Good cookies, though. And a nice place to sit and eat luch in the cozy seating area.

Yummy chicken salad paninis, and the "half" portions are just enough for me. I tried the pumpkin pie latte and it was SO good but may be too sweet for some people. The convenient location near campus makes it an easy stop, and the prices are budget friendly. The staff is nice but they try to move quickly, so stand out of the way if you're not sure what you want when you walk in. I haven't tried their pastries, but they look amazing.

Barry's is a Eugene classic. This may be a newer location than the one down south, but the sandwiches are just as good, and it does lunch right. The hallmark of Barry's is their fresh-baked bread. It's sliced home-style, in giant slices. This isn't any sort of gourmet fancy seed bread or anything - more along the lines of that classic challah that your grandma would bake. Can I get a challah back? As far as I'm concerned, no matter what you put on thick, spongy slices of challah, it's good. But if you want a recommendation, I love their egg salad on challah, and I recently had a BLT with both cream cheese and mayo, with thick cut bacon, and it was straight up delicious. They have espresso (never tried it), bakery goods in a case (not anything bougie, just classics) and other items like soup (matzoh ball, anyone?). But really what you're coming here for is a sando on some tasty bread. Not too dry, not too dense, not too spongy - just right. And the price is right too.

Some of the best sandwiches in town. So big that you'll have a half sandwich leftover and a dislocated jaw. Soups are also fantastic, the half sandwich and soup is a great deal. Everything always tastes and smells so fresh and the restaurant itself is cozy for working on whatever between classes. I have yet to explore their breakfast offerings but I've only heard good things.

these guys... oh man. this review is just for the service. its past 2pm on a Monday and I'm the only one in line. three young employees were in sight. none of them at the register and none of them actually working. I was going to plop down 6 dollars for a HALF a Reuben.... no one attempts to serve me or acknowledge my presence. I wait... move closer to the counter and peek over it. maybe they had genuienly not seen or heard me...nope. still no one cares that I want to overpay for a sandwich. I'll eat somewhere else that doesn't treat you like they don't need you. I won't be ignored, Dan.

Barrys oh how good you are. I eat here all the time and you can not go wrong with any sandwhich on the menu. The soup is delightful and make sure to wash it down with one of their amazing cookies.

Just went there today for some breakfast. A bit pricey for a simple breakfast sandwich, still it was good, and served on some really yummy challah bread. The location is a bit small. You can't really blame them, considering its a prime location on the University campus. Of course it's going to be a bit packed. You really want to hit it during their off times between their rushes. I intend to go back. My grandmother has a favorite Jewish Deli in California that makes amazing Matzaball soup, I've never had it. So far Barry's is the only place I've come across that makes it. So I'll be giving that a try.

Best coffee on campus. That's their strong point. Soup is great on a cold day. Their sandwiches aren't the best (too expensive for not enough stuff). But their baked goods are great! It's also the only friendly, comfy cafe atmosphere around that isn't marketing to sell you a orange mocha frappucinno. The employees are very friendly, and their wifi is fast! Did I mention they have the best coffee on campus (possibly in town)?

As I absolutely love bialys and my boyfriend went to school at UO w/ twice weekly stops at Barry's for bialys and cream cheese - he brought me here to show me what I've been missing. So good!! Lots of options and delicious traditional Jewish foods like knish and hamantashen. Super friendly service too. Nice cup of coffee and, indeed, worth the drive from Portland for their bialys!! Yumm yumm yumm!

I love Barry's and the friendly staff that works there! Great soups, coffee, and paninis. I gotta say I wish they cut the bread a little thinner, but hey, it's still great. Overall, a wonderful place to stop in for a cup of coffee or lunch.

I really like their challah bread. I love their breakfast sandwiches. I usually get the special or a bacon, egg, and cheese. Service has always been quick given the quality of the food that is produced. Their iced tea is tasty and appropriately priced. Espresso leaves a little to be desired. Seating is limited, but I like the quaintness of the place. It's clean inside. There's bike parking out front. I don't like the debit/credit card minimum. I give them business knowing I can use my card and often choose to go somewhere else because I know I won't meet the minimum on my card purchase and don't carry cash.

Went here the other day for a quick lunch before running some errands on campus. The line went quickly, but the service was only OK due to the combination of (I think) training the new girl, many customers, and (possibly) switching shifts. As I was using my card, they processed my order while I had to awkwardly wait--kind of in the way, kind of to the side, while they helped another two groups of customers. A couple minor things they they got mixed up: (1) the guy who was processing my order forgot to print a receipt, but the girl who took his place quickly printed one for me and (2) I did not ask for a "to-go" order, but my lunch was packed (neatly) in foil and in a paper bag. There is, by the way, a minimum purchase of $2 in order to use your card without charge. Also it seems like the machine that processes cards is a bit slow, so most people were paying with cash. *3 stars for service* The kosher hot dog and potato salad were pretty good. The potato salad was made with dill, and had the red potato skins still on it, mm! I also got an Italian soda, which I'm accustomed to seeing them with heavy cream poured in, the one I had at Barry's did not have the cream, but it was still yummy. *5 stars for food* The prices seemed about right for what you're getting, even cheaper than what I'm used to in terms of cafes that close to campus. *5 stars for pricing* I went after UO graduates were long gone, but Barry's still seemed busy. So a note of caution, when school is in session they're probably going to be packed.

My review for this Barry's is essentially the same as my review for Barry's on the south side, with a star taken off for the following things: The campus Barry's is much too small for the amount of customers they have. It's often a struggle to find seats, and the line can take 15 minutes, just to get in your order. And because they get so overwhelmed by the number of customers (they should hire more people, really), the wait from-entrance-to-food can be half an hour, even for a bowl of soup and a bialy. Furthermore, being understaffed leaves them with no time to clean, so the tables are usually a mess. Crumbs, spilled drinks etc everywhere, with what seems like hours at a time passing by before anyone comes out to clean off a few tables. Expect to have to grab napkins and wipe your own table before you can use it. This is my review for the food though, which is 5 stars in itself: --- Barry's: The best Jewish deli I've ever eaten at. Admittedly, I'm not Jewish though I'm known to make the occasional matzo ball soup on the weekend, but seriously: Barry's is amazing. Significantly better than any of the East Coast Jewish deli's I've been to, though I don't think Barry's does smoked fish spreads that you usually see on the East Coast. - The matzo ball soup is perfect: Just the right tenderness to the matzoh ball and they've perfected the delicate blend of spices that SHOULD feature dill, at a good Jewish deli. - Bialy+egg salad. This is my favorite lunch sandwich in the entire city and probably state. Their bialy's (regular or onion) are freshly baked and their egg salad is flavorful and plentiful, as it should be. - Knishes, sandwiches on thick fresh challah bread, panini, they got it all. - The pastries: Barry's will satisfy your craving for all kinds of Jewish treats from fruity Hamantaschen to Rugelach (chocolate or sugary cinnamon walnut). - Italian sodas: Well mixed, not too bland or too sweet like at a lot of places. - CHEESECAKES !! !! (needs no explanation) I also recommend their white/dark chocolate chip low fat cookie. I find it hard to believe it's low fat, and it is certainly not low calorie, but it's the thought that counts! (Wait, is that right? If you've never been, you're missing out!

I went to Barry's today to meet with a group of friends on a potential business deal. I ordered a small coffee and a oatmeal choco chip cookie. The cookie was pretty good, filling, good taste, nice crunch/chewy ratio but it felt a bit over priced. They skimp on the coffee here, yeah it is organic but the taste isn't quite there. If you going to go organic go for the organic + good taste combo. I'm sure one of the employees there has a good coffee palate. The place has a variety of offerings, the sweets are a bit on the expensive side but overall the place is nice. It is a nice getaway away from all the undergrads. You can sit down, enjoy a cup of coffee or tea, and read, study, or relax. Overall I wasn't very impressed. This place is overpriced for having decent food.

Challah is out of this world good. The sandwich toppings seem very fresh. I either opt for an egg salad sandwich or kosher hot dog (the bun is toasted--yay!). A tip: the hot dog condiments are very generously applied, so I have had to tell them to go easy. The potato salad is not good. It is potatoes + mayo (?). That is all. Bland. The people who work there are great. They really hustle. I haven't had to wait more than ten minutes, ever. I wouldn't drive across town to eat here, but it is my go-to lunch spot since I work nearby.

The challah rolls are great with cream cheese and lox but you may want to ask for light cream cheese b/c sometimes it's just way too much. I love the Eugene City Lox they use. Barry's is the only place in town that I know to get challah rolls which is great but...the coffee is not the best and the baristas can be too loud and rude. It kind of reminds of New York City in that sense.

When I move away from Eugene, Barry's will be one of the things I miss most about it. I've never gotten a single thing here that I haven't enjoyed, and I eat here at least once every couple weeks. The soups are the standouts though. Personal favorites are Lemon Chicken Rice, Cilantro Corn, Mama Leone's and Southwest Chicken, (and I always hear Hungarian Mushroom is good too, just not a huge fan myself) always served with a big fat slice of amazing challah bread for less than $4. Best lunch deal in Eugene. The Tollhouse Cookies are also excellent. Top it all off with wi-fi and laid-back service that is prompt but doesn't make you feel like you need to be in & out quickly. The only downside is your clothes and hair smell like food after hanging out in their old, stuffy restaurant for too long.

Okay, here's the deal: Espresso Roma has better coffee, but for lunch and baked goods on campus, Barry's is the best. They have fantastic challah bread, unbelievable cinnamon rolls, and the best ginger snaps I have ever tasted. There are a bunch of yummy soups and sandwiches, and most of the people working there are great -- they'll remember what you ordered the last time, and they'll get your stuff to you quickly so you can make it to class or whatever. Barry's gets bonus points because the bakery items remind me of a deli my parents used to take me to when I was a little kid. They also have lots of seating and free wifi.

I. Love. Barry. Well, I love Barry's, I've never personally met Barry himself but I love him from afar for providing me with delicious sandwiches, a variety of scrumptious soups (made by Barry's wife, so I love Mrs. Barry, too), and oh-my-GOODNESS pastries that are finger licking good! My favorite soups are the creamy tomato and the minestrone. All soups are served with a generous side of challah bread. My favorite pastry is the cinnamon walnut rugala, it's a funky little Jewish dessert that is so good it makes me want to convert! Needless to say- GO HERE!

Barry's has the best breakfast sandwich is Eugene: bacon and egg on thick sourdough (if the egg patties are hot enough; they sometimes have problems with their microwave). Yum! Their cinnamon rolls are just evil, and their rugola, particularly when fresh, is delicious too. Also, it's open till midnight, so you can always drop in for a little (or bigger) treat).
