In my opinion Murphy's has the best food in town. I've tried countless restaurants in Corvallis and there isn't one place that serves better food. Their consistency with friendly service and awesome food every time keeps me going back over and over. If you've never before tried Murphy's I would encourage you to go on a Friday or Saturday night when they have the Prime Rib. The best in town by far! Wednesdays they have Mr. Bills Trivia which is fun and it's packed!

Wanted eat here after the game on Saturday. Called from out of town last week and was told they should be open until 1am after a game night. Went in early on game day to check out the menu and verify they'd be open after the late night game. Was assured they'd be open, which they were. However, upon arrival, just after 11:30pm, was informed the grill was shut down and that nothing but fried finger foods and alcohol would be available. Since I was there for a late dinner, this really put me out because I'd done my due diligence beforehand and now would have to scramble, fight game traffic and search up another late night spot with my bro to eat a real dinner before everything closed in town. This was just terribly lame, especially after a late game night. If I could give it less than a 1 star rating right now, I would in a heartbeat!

Good sized menu, good service, and good food. We all had burgers, but they were the best burgers we've had in this area so far (and we've been to quite a few places). We'll be back -- and soon.

OK, we love this place. It's not perfect, but neither is home! Great variety of food and and the bar menu always treats us well. The bar is great and the folks are top notch. Sure, the service can be inconsistent but you learn to forgive! We go here often and both us and the kids love it.

Trivia night is good fun. The food is good but not great. Can be slow service at times. Generally a good bar though.

I really like the clientele in this establishment....more "pub people" than "meat market" people...if you are picking up what I am putting down here. Corvallis is a college town and it has a large Greek community so it's nice to just go somewhere and ease on into a booth and not feel like you need to keep an eye out for that sorority girl who is chugging pink drinks surrounded by boys with pastel popped collars. Ya know? It's low key and has the friendliest staff ever seen......the man I have experienced the most has the biggest smile and seems to LOVE bringing me another beer. It is a fun place to play pool and just hang. The barbecue is delicious and they have one of my fave beers, Tricerahops. I have also heard good things about Trivia Night but I have yet to go. This is just your classic sit-down-and-have-a-beer bar, and I love it for that.

  • Sarah B.

I used to love Murphy's for the great food. The have never had great service in my opinion. Always to few wait staff and way to long of a wait for the food. The past 3 times that have gone there, the food has been served cold. I think that their kitchen doesn't have a larger enough warming bar and while the kitchen is still preparing others meals, food gets pushed out from under the warming lamp. Food always tastes good, just not warm.

  • Frank C.

Hey don't judge. These people can cook! Prime rib on Friday and Saturday is perfect. Great owners that always provide an excellent meal with an impressive beer selection to boot.

Great food and beer. Fun trivia on Wednesday nights..

  • Carlea F.

This kind of food and atmosphere just isn't for me. We came in and it smelled like stale beer and cigarettes even on the restaurant side. Then, we got approached by the waitress saying a guy had won on video poker and wanted to buy a round for the house. I will pay for my own soda, thank you. My son had a big burger that looked very tasty and he enjoyed it. The fries were great. My pulled pork sandwich had big globs of fat in it. The food is probably typically very good, but the "Cheers" setting just isn't appealing to me.

While I have lived in Corvallis for almost 3 years, I had never been to murphy's before tonight and all I can think is : ALL THE TIME I HAVE WASTED! For one, the food was absolutely wonderful! I had the Murphy Burger which had a fried egg (cooked to perfection and not at all messy), honey ham and pepper jack which was SCRUMPTIOUS. I had a Laurelwood red beer and it was very good but a little bitter for me. We came for Mr. Bill's trivia and it was the best! While I adore trivia, I had never been to an event and let me tell you, I will come back again and again! Not only was it wildly entertaining but also included a wide variety of categories for all ages. I would recommend this event emphatically to anyone and everyone looking for a good time. His assistant, Jamie, was lots of fun to sit near and was so friendly all night -- we felt we lucked out where we were seated, through and through! Bill helps himself to joining your booth as you assist him in answering the questions and it is hysterical and really makes the experience interactive and fun. We didn't win but that surely didn't stop us from laughing our asses off! Our server, Cody was an absolute joy. He was extremely attentive without being annoyingly so, and even helped us out with a question once (shh!). We couldn't stop raving about him as a group! As a ridiculously forgetful person, I left my leftovers on the table and he ran them out to us with a kind farewell that was the perfect end to a perfect night. Give this boy a damn raise! We will absolutely be going to this fabulous establishment again, especially on Wednesdays for this fantastic event. Maybe you'll see us there! (Go Team Ears!)

This place was great, I lived by for a year and never stopped in mostly due to the outside appearance, but you know what they say about books and covers. The staff was very nice and attentive. Our waiter was very helpful even I asked a couple questions about my selection. The food was great, my girlfriend enjoyed the prime rib they have on Fridays/Saturdays, the mashed potatoes were very garlicky though (I like garlic so it was okay with me). I had the mahi mahi tacos which were also very good. The food was beautifully plated as well. Over all, great experience, this place is definitely one I'm going to visit again.

  • Christopher M.

I decided to try this place out after reading some of the reviews here. When I drove out and saw the outside of the place I almost changed my mind. It does NOT look like a place you would go to eat. Boy was I glad I went in. I felt like the atmosphere was so kick-back that I was very comfortable there. I ordered the special Katsu Chicken, which was as good as I've had in Seattle. The Katsu sauce was so yummy and the maccaroni that came with it had a hint of horseradish that made it interesting, even though I don't normally go for maccaroni salad. The staff was super attentive and really made it an enjoyable experience.

Murphy's is great! Food is amazing, way more than just 'bar food'. I love the burgers, the salads, and the chicken satay. Seriously. The chicken satay is ridiculous good. The service is great, trivia night on Thursdays is a hoot. Make Murphy's one of your go to spots!

Murphy's Restaurant in Corvallis, Oregon is a very unpretentious neighborhood restaurant and bar in the south part of the city, and is probably the only good restaurant in that area. You won't be going there for the ambiance; if you are not familiar with the place, you'll skip it. Which is too bad, because some good food, drink and service can be had there. We went on a Thursday evening, and I was happy to see the humongous barbecue apparatus in the back, dirt, parking lot! Among their offerings was the trio, comprised of pulled pork, ribs, turkey, cole slaw, beans and corn bread. Warned about the portions, opted to share one with my wife, and still struggled to finish the dinner. Good selection of brews and other libations too. There seems to be something special going on every night; in addition to Thursday barbecue night, there is rib night, trivia night, etc. Murphy's has outlasted many other restaurants in Corvallis, at least the 35 or so years I've been an Oregon resident, so that speaks well of its popularity. Definitely going back when in town.

If you enjoy eating fried cheese, the Asiago chicken would be the perfect dish for you. When the dish was first presented, I was at first astonished by the bright orange color of the sauce. But fear not, the sauce was rich, creamy and so delicious. My husband ordered the Rib Eye steak, and it was large and juicy. Simply delicious. We ordered the mud pie for dessert. While filled with coffee flavor, I've had better elsewhere. Murphy's is basically a bar, so if you're looking for some casual dining with large portions and beer on tap, I'd definitely recommend the place.

  • Haylee R.

Under any and all circumstances, please avoid this place. I understand others have written positive reviews, but they must be employees. It took an hour and 45 minutes to get mediocre food that McDonalds could make in 6 minutes. One of the most disappointing restaurant experiences of our life.

I am in Corvallis every 6 weeks or so and Murphy's is always my first stop for dinner. The atmosphere is great. This is truly a neighborhood joint and once they meet you, they will not forget you. I couldn't believe it when I walked in 6 weeks after I was last there and he brought over my beer and used my name! You would think a bar this down to earth would have a limited food selection. Think again. There are nightly specials and their menu is awesome. I am addicted to their Ahi Tuna but also a huge fan of their Prime Rib on Friday nights. Their salads are great and the mashed potatoes regardless of how they are cooked are some of the best. They have a great selection of beer and on Weds night you can participate in their Trivia Game. It's generally packed during Trivia so if you are going on Weds night - get there early. Murphy's is a great, comfortable place. I can bring my friends or dine here alone without any hesitation. The food is good and there is plenty of it.

Met up with some extended family on a friday night. The servers in the bar are some of the nicest people I have ever had as bartenders. They actually take the time to talk to you and help you with any questions and beers you want to try. 5 stars for that. Heard their prime rib was good and it was. Perfect medium rare and a fair price. Tons of pool tables and video poker, but the real value here is the service in the bar. So friendly.

  • Taylor R.

Order the chicken katsu! It is delicious, comes with rice and macaroni salad and the tastiest katsu sauce in the land. I usually don't like macaroni salad, but I like it here. MOST DEFINITELY GO! And not to mention the drinks, yummy and at great prices. I highly recommend

I just can't do it anymore!?! Second time trying to get a steak here. The first time, we got a steak an hour after the order, but at least the wait staff stopped by and apologized every 15 minutes. This time, OMG, we order steak and an order of onion rings as an appetizer. The rings came out in 15 minutes, but the staff gave them to the wrong table. After 30 minutes, the staff finally realized it, but made us wait another 10 for the rings?!? We just had to leave after an hour of this non-sense. Sorry, Murphy's but we won't be back.

Like other reviewers, Murphy's is a surprising gem for Corvallis. It is arguably one of the best restaurants in Corvallis. It has a wide range of food items from your standard beer/burger/ wings to steaks/chops/and pastas. It is far enough away from the University that the college crowd does not typically venture into. The beer selection is decent with a wide variety of regional microbrews and standard mainstream American beer, and Murphy's also has a full bar. If you're looking for things to do Murphy's does have a number of pool tables and poker machines in the back away from the eating portion of the restaurant. On Wednesday nights Mr. Bills trivia night comes to town. In the summer, Murphy's has slow-cooked BBQ on Thursday nights. Friday and Saturday, Murphy's has Prime Rib. Murphy's is closed on Sundays and Mondays. This is really a great neighborhood restaurant and bar.

I had a great meal with great service. Only downside was the mud slide pie. Definently not made there.

  • TJ P.

Been stopping in here off and on for a decade. It's always struck me as a bit weird that perhaps the best restaurant in Corvallis happens to also have pool tables. The first time I came in, I was convinced I was in the wrong place, but the food was spectacular. Great food. Great drinks. Friendly staff. The ownership had some issues a few years ago but it looks like that has all been worked out. Might be the most unexpectedly good food you'll have in your life. Only reason I don't give it 5 stars is that if I really want an outstanding meal, I don't necessarily want the pool hall vibe to go with it. So it usually feels like it's just a bit off.

So impressed! Our waiter knew everything and wasn't shy abt coming around too often, makes you feel great! Like he cares!! I couldn't bel the service and the food was amazing! My son had the 2lb pound *rib eye* steak. It was cooked to perfection. We all had prime rib.it was bad ass!!! It's now our favorite place! We dine out every week too.(if not more but who' s counting right :)))) This place is now on our fave restaurant list!!! Boom!!!

I will definitely go back! The staff was super friendly and helpful. I wasn't really hungry enough for a full meal so I ordered the crab dip to share. I expected something really rich, cheesy and buttery. Instead i got lemon and horseradish flavors, but very good. My best friend got the Asiago Chicken, it was covered in a really tasty roasted red pepper sauce and came with a delicious deep fried cheesy risotto ball. Her husband got a prime rib dip sandwich, also very good. This place has a neighborhood pub type feel, and I hear they have great prime rib on Friday nights.

They have a nice selection of beers. We have tried to go to trivia night the past but ended up playing pool instead because we couldn't find any seats on that side, not a big deal, it seems to be their biggest night. Its a good location for those of us that live on the south side. My only issues with the place are there isn't a dart board and lack of food options, it wouldn't hurt to have some vegan/vegetarian options. It's a good, laid back place to drink and play pool.

  • Terry S.

Verrrrrry Good! Had the primerib (medium rare). and chowder. My son had the burger w/swiss was very good as well. Thankyou to the lady serving us before the Beaver basketball game last night. I will come back. Was talking about my primerib all night. Nice place to visit and have a drink before the Beaver games.

I really like this place. I always forget about it tho. The food has always been great and the drinks are reasonable. Also a great place to shoot pool, never a wait for a table.

  • Sean D.

Looks like a dive bar on the outside, looks like a dive bar on the inside. Standard beer selections, surprised they don't don't offer more on tap selections. I ordered blackened ahi and was shocked at what I was given: a dish that was beautifully presented and delicious. The other reviews are right, this is a diamond in the rough. Now about the service...

  • Scott W.

Ok, I have been to Murphy's a couple times so I figure it's time for a review. I have lived in Corvallis for 8 months now and have been looking for a place that makes me feel like I am at home. Needless to say I found what I was looking for. I have eaten at most restaurants in Corvallis so when I ate here I honestly wasn't expecting anything special. Wow was I wrong. Their menu here has such a wide variety I couldn't decide what to get so I just told the bar tender to surprise me. He presented me with the Asiago chicken. I have to say this was the best meal I have eaten in Corvallis by far. It consisted of a perfectly cooked chicken breast with crunchy cheese on top and a delicious sauce. I especially loved the side of sauteed summer squash and zucchini. The second time I went was BBQ night. I was so excited when I pulled into the parking lot and saw all of the smoker pits smoking away! These guys are not messing around. I lived in North Carolina for five years so I was sure I would never get some good BBQ around here. Well, I was totally wrong again! I had the trio plate which consisted of ribs biscuit, pork, beans, and corn bread. The bar tender was very impressed with the speed in which i cleaned my plate. What's even cooler about this place is not the food or drinks. It's the staff. They really make the place. Everyone is super friendly and they make everyone feel comfortable. This place is good for folks of all ages. Oh yea, and they have a ton of pool tableS as well as foosball. Go check this place out! There is something for everyone here. If you are tired of foo foo restaurants and bars that try way toO hard this place is for you. CHEERS
