I'm a California gal who likes good, authentic coffee. In other words no Starbucks for me! The Beanery near campus hits the mark and is one of the places that I regularly visit when I come north to visit family. Good strong coffee with all the trappings if you want them (I'm a latte or cappuccino fan). Good pastries (I like the ginger scone), very nice staff and an atmosphere that speaks Oregon to me. As I write, the place is filled with students, staff and faculty. Highly trafficked I can still feel relaxed as I check my email on The Beanery's free wireless. It has a warm and relaxed atmosphere with the feel of a university close by. No wonder some call it "the brain bean"! Try it.

As this is a coffee shop, you would expect them to specialize in this and excel at making drinks. Unfortunately, I ordered an Americano that was extremely bitter and unbearable to drink. My friend ordered a Carmel iced coffee that was also unbearable to drink due to it's extreme sweetness. In order for us not to waste $5.50 we had to resort to combining the two and redistributing. Never will I come here again.

Honestly the coffee isn't as good as many places, but they have the brightest staff on Monroe.

I've come here every day for several months. I really like the atmosphere and the baristas are nice. Coffee is usually good, sometimes flavorless. I raise issue with their drink ratios. 12,16 and 20 oz all come with one shot. The prices are wayyy to high for so little. I do like the fact that they carry almond milk and fresh fruit.

SLOW service. Coffee was mediocre. I've definately had better. I just got a semi-sweet mocha here on a whim while waiting for someone and I was not impressed. Staff was slow to actually make my coffee, let if sit on the machine well after the espresso had finished, then they mixed it and that was equally slow (they weren't busy, but no reason to be excruciatingly slow). Then they gave me my cup with no to-go lid. *Sigh* I get the eco-friendly thing, I really do. But if someone is obviously a student, wouldn't it be nice to pop a lid on there real quick? That just seems a little silly to me. I'm not a fan of coffee places anyway because it seems like half the time the coffee is bad and the service is either really great (which makes up for bad coffee) or the coffee is decent and the service is awful. This place is the latter of the two categories.

3.5 stars - Today I got a 12oz caramel mocha latte and tea cake. [+] The mocha latte was alright, I wish I had asked them to make it sweeter. To my surprise the tea cake actually taste pretty good. It goes really well with my latte! I think it's called a Almond Cake or something. It's small and has some kind of almond filling. YUM. The service was fast and efficient. I didn't wait long at all to receive my drink. [-] To me, I felt like the cashier was not very personable, but then again, this is a coffee shop. People wants to get in-get out. There's not a whole lot of negatives going on here. The reason why I gave it 3.5 stars is because I felt like this place was pretty average. Nothing too specular that blew me away. [?] I would love to come back here again to order the tea cake and perhaps some hot chocolate. I am uncertain of the pricing here compare to other coffee shops because I was absent-minded today :)

Usually solid coffee and food. Sometimes the food is old and looks better than it tastes. The service is usually great, but ocassionally distant. I stop by many times a week so can't be too bad. Wished they stayed open later at night.
