Been going here for ten years, but the last one ended it for me. We took visiting friends and were embarrassed by the changes. No appetizers were serves. I got my favorite shrimp scampi which had very little garlic and was not creamy. My husbands steak was grisly and tough. Our friends were polite but we knew it wasn't good. New owners? Bad management changes? Whatever happened needs to change back to the Tumalo Feed I once knew.

We eat out a lot. I don't give this kind of review lightly because I know it can really affect a business. So believe me when I say: this place is awful. Seriously awful. I'm okay with a crummy meal if it cost less than $10. I can get over that. I can't get over a $90 meal for three that was this bad. Their waitresses were sweet. The decor was actually really fun. Yeah, it's ridiculous, and I REALLY wanted it to be good so I could bring people there with us sometime, but alas.... My husband and I ordered the chicken marsala and a new york steak to split. For sides we had mac n cheese, cole slaw, shrimp cocktail, beans, and a baked potato. We ordered the sausage-stuffed jalapenos, the onion rings (which are no longer complimentary, they cost $1 a person), and a huckleberry lemonade. It will be easier to say what was good than what was bad. Onion rings were probably the best thing, no kidding. Baked potato was good, but that's hard to do wrong. And yes, the steak was good. But like Michele said in her 2010 review, there are plenty of wonderful places to get a steak for the same price that will be much, much more worth your money. (And yes, the lemonade was delicious!) Mac n cheese: bland noodles in a watery cheese sauce. Chicken Marsala: pre-sliced chicken breasts (not breaded) in an overly-salted cream sauce, with sliced portabella mushrooms piled on top of a drab diner-esque plate. No marsala flavor to be found. Ranch beans smelled like b.o. (I realize it was probably the seasoning, but it just added insult to injury.) Shrimp cocktail was o.k. but .... meh. Mini-shrimp served in a condiment bowl, propped up inside by celery bits with a glob of cocktail sauce served on top. The sausage stuffed jalapenos have a weird name on the menu that doesn't allude to being sausage stuffed. They came out on a sizzling cast iron pan, and they were literally just sliced jalapenos stuffed with italian seasoned sausage. Even the coleslaw managed to be seriously boring. YOU HAVE ONE JOB! You serve very basic steak house food, and you've been here for a long time! How can you not have the simplest side dishes perfected? While not a steak house, slick's bbq in Bend has fantastic sides. Gooey, creamy mac n cheese, pineapple baked beans, garlic mashed potatoes, and tasty coleslaw. If you're craving some beef and southern sides, go there instead, and save yourself a good $50.

Excellent place to eat. Great steaks and prime rib. Nice casual place. Ending eating there both nights we were at Eagle Crest.

After a long day of hiking and biking, we needed a BIG meal and this definitely did us in. Steaks were amazing and cooked perfectly. The mixed green salad I got was subpar but at least it wasn't all iceberg. The steak though!! And the beans and the amount of melted blue cheese I got!!! We had our 6 month old with us in her car seat and they were totally understanding in us moving her from seat to seat until we found a good set up for our new little family. We didn't have reservation but only waited ten minutes or so. I will probably make reservations next time just to be safe. We got there late on a Saturday (maybe an hour before closing). Live music was great- we could hear it from their saloon. I didn't realize it was live until I heard clapping and talking- it was that good. Beer choices were meh for being so close to Bend craft brewing scene but they did have one IPA I could get on board with. Definitely give them a try if you LOVE steak and a traditional steakhouse with no frills or thrills and you don't have to dress up or pay and arm and a leg!!

Well the bad was that the food was mediocre at best. You would think paying $30 for a T bone steak you would get a 1" thick cut. It was a thin cut and absolutely NOT worth the price. The beans were runny and terrible, the macaroni and cheese I could have made better at home. The green salad was good but if you get more from a green salad than the rest of the high price meal then there has to be something wrong. The saving grace of this restaurant was the happy hour. We happen to be there at that time and had a drink while we waited for our meal, which was FANTASTIC! The bar is REALLY dark and you can barely make out the menu (one downfall). Honestly for the price we should have ordered from the happy hour menu. We probably would have gotten better food. This place is NOT worth the high price dinners AT ALL.

The decor is cheezy which can be okay but this is both cheezy AND plastic. Reminds me of one of those interstate chain restaurants that wants to look like the wild ol' west but also cover the table in plastic for easy cleaning. The waitstaff friendly and pleasant and attentive. I had the Quail and Steak. Both were intensively marinated. I will admit the marinate was actually pretty good but I really wanted to actually taste the quail. Couldn't do it over the marinade. The steak was a flatiron so it was strong enough to somewhat overcome the seasoning. In spite of the decor and the crowded tables, this place is NOT cheap. They say "howdy" when you walk in the door and give you a big smile.... but I'm guessing they are really smiling when you are walking out and they are counting the profit.

We were sadly surprised to have had to wait more than an hour for our food on saturday night. The waitresses were overworked and apparently the cook(s) were too. When the food arrived it was not good. It was a huge waste of vakay time, as it was about 2.5 hours from arrival to being finished eating. Sat april 6th to be exact. It was about $75 for 2 people and one child who had the steak on the child menu. I am sorry to say that we make better steaks on the grill at home. I read all of the reviews so I am thinking this was an off night. I wanted to like it very much! Instead, I wish I could get my time and money back The decor is really cool and it has a really old victorian place vibe to it. The live music is good for the people in the bar but way too loud for the people trying to eat right outside the bar door. We could not talk at all.

This old fashioned Western restaurant is all by itself on Highway 20 in the small town of Tumalo, about 20 minutes away from Sisters, Redmond, Mt. Bachelor and Bend. You get a ton of food, so bring your appetite. You'll still leave with leftovers. Probably best enjoyed after a day of skiing or rafting or generally exhausting yourself. It is kind of a guy place. Their entrees come with onion rings, salad, fries, beans and garlic bread, plus dessert (sherbet, sasparilla float or liqueur). Kids under 5 eat free too. Wish my kids would stop growing. They are getting VERY expensive. As you can imagine, the menu focuses on steak, but they also have seafood and chicken options. Nice selection of beers, wines, hot coffee drinks and jartinis. There are a few interesting items on the menu as well.... you can get an appetizer of mountain oysters ("truly the tenderest cut of all") and they have quail on the dinner menu. So eat them if you dare! Not on my top tier of restaurants in the area, but it serves its purpose.

Love Pat Thomas on Friday and Saturday nights. Bar staff and atmosphere are great! Wish there were healthier meal options....like salads, fish without heavy sauces, etc. As a vegan, it's slim pickings! My boyfriend swears by the ribeye......

Food was ok. Service was ok. Overall I am not sure what I was expecting, people had told me the food was good and it was a kind of schmancy steak place. It's totally a "sisters" kind of place, kind of fancy, kind of not. Food is ok. Not healthy. I don't think I'll be back unless someone else really wants to go. I think I'd like BlackSmith more for a steak if I were hungry for one...

Yep, this is a good one. If steak is what you are after and you are in Central Oregon this is the place to go. The meal starts with onion rings that are complimentary and ends with a complimentary root-beer float. But you go there for the steak and they are fantastic. If you happen to be an adventurous eater then try the Rocky Mountain Oysters.

My husband & I ate there last night, walking in it had a charming old western appearance with red velvet flocked wallpaper in some area, plastic table cloths & a teeny bar. Based on the appearance, we were surprised how expensive this place was. I had a hard time finding anything less than 15 dollars and that included the burgers. I decided on one of the specials, salmon stuffed with crab that was over 20 dollars just hoping it would be good. What I got was a good size of salmon that wasn't over cooked, stuffed with a crab mixture and drenched with a pile of tomatoe cream sauce & loads of spinach & cheap rice pilaf that looked old. The onion rings that come out at the beginning were so old looking I didn't even have one. My husband ordered the mountain oysters & said they were not good just tasted like fried batter, & over done. He left the entire thing & we hate wasting food. The salad you get is iceberg lettuce, most restaurants you get spring greens at least something greener. The potatoes were over cooked, & the beans were good per my husband. This place is ridiculously over priced for what they serve. With good places to get a good steak like 3 Creek Brewery in Sisters, or 10 Barrel Brewery, this place should know better. I will say our waitress was so nice & gave good service but when I asked how some of the dishes were prepared, she didn't know. She could have been new though. I also noticed the deer heads on the wall and corners had spider webs & was very dusty. Not sure if we'll ever come here again, probably not because there are so many excellent places to eat in Bend. Sorry to say, this was not one of them, a total rip off.

Two words: SKILLET COOKIE!!! Beyond delicious coming right out of the oven baked in the cast iron skillet and then loaded with ice cream! Perfect for 4 people to share! Tumalo Feed will be famous for it one day, I'm sure of it! Don't forget to order it with dinner so it has time to bake in the oven! In second place, but still uber yummy are the crisp to perfection onion rings (which I can't help but order), and the steak burger!

First tried Tumalo Feed Co when we came here for my future father-in-law's birthday. Trying to impress the old man, I ate several of the rocky mountain oysters that HE ordered and promptly told my now wife....NEVER AGAIN. For all you lovers of bulls balls.....it's just wrong, okay? You aren't supposed to eat things like that. I did. I won't deny it, but....YUCK! Okay, so we've been a few time since. Seems we go thru phases of not going for a couple years, then going every couple months. That being said, the place hasn't changed. Looks, smells, feels the same as it did the first time I went oh so long ago. So from other reviewers commenting on the worn checkered table clothes...yep, probably the same ones since they first opened the joint. But if you know that ahead of time, is is it such a bad thing? I mean, isn't this what Yelp is for? To limit the surprise factor for all of us? Okay, so you've read about the portions. I think it depends on if you are a big eater or not. Me? I consume it all. I'm a clean your plate kind of guy and am full when my tummy screams "No More...PLEASE!" Totally unhealthy, but it's the way I was brought up and who I am. I just go longer on the treadmill the next day. So if you are a big eater, you'll probably be satisfied here. The sides....beans, potatoes, garlic bread....are all served "family style" and I believe they will keep replenishing it as needed. The side salad? Yes...very weak. The token tomato and cucumber slice aside, it's just a bowl of iceberg lettuce with a few croutons on top. The onion rings and salsa always confused me. Who eats onion rings with salsa? This is the ONLY place I have ever seen that option and it always frustrates me to have to ask for ketchup. The rings are good though. The steaks....I'm a ribeye fan. Big surprise, huh? Nice and marbled. Totally bad for you, but oh so tasty. The steaks are pretty good. Not a Ruths Criss kind of good, but decent enough. As for seafood? Okay folks, this is Central Oregon, specifically...Tumalo. Can you say "red flag alert"? This is not the seafood mecca of Newport or Seattle. Chances are you are going to be disappointed. It is, on the other hand, prime cattle country. Go with the beef. It's what's for dinner here, okay? As mentioned, meals include dessert. I like the sarsaparilla float myself. Tumalo Feed Co. is not a "must go to" place in Central Oregon. But if you want to avoid the chain restaurant, grab a nice steak, not feel the need to dress up and experience some down home grub...give it a whirl. I think between my review and others, you'll go in well prepared to enjoy your meal if you choose to give it a try.

*Warning, this review is strictly for the NY Strip steak.* Hot damn, now that's how you do a NY Strip steak. Perfect tenderness and served perfectly medium rare. Seasoned exceptionally well, no need for any type of additional seasoning. The texture was perfect; it doesn't quite melt in your mouth but still has a little bit of chewiness to it. I can't say much for the rest of the food but the NY Strip merits 5 stars alone. I've paid twice as much in NYC for a steak not nearly as good as this one.

OMG. If you want a steak, this is the place to go. Real western atmosphere that makes the food taste better. My New York strip steak was cooked to perfection. No wonder this place has been written up in Sunset Magazine as one of the nation's best steakhouses. Giddyup!

I'll say it up front. We haven't eaten beef in twenty years. And this is known primarily as a steakhouse. So what were we doing here? Friends invited us. And we were at Tumalo Feed Co a couple of times before, most recently about five years ago B.Y. (Before Yelp) and seemed to remember some things on the menu that were edible. Which just goes to show memories fade. Sort of. There are options on the menu for non beef eaters, like several chicken and some seafood. But they are not particularly edible. From the greasy onion rings (complimentary and you get what you pay for re quality) to the tired iceberg lettuce salad (there is no excuse for that in farm friendly Oregon) to the side dishes of baked beans. For tourist / visitors to Central Oregon the cowboy schtick atmosphere might be enough to "rope 'em in". (Pun intended.) But that goes along with oilcloth table cloths and an over all sense of "needs spiffin' up" interior. I'm just recommending you know what you're getting in for. This is a belly up to the table, huge portions of mediocre food in a dark, cowboy camp ambiance kind of place. And if good steak is what you're after for dinner, it really shouldn't be that tough to find in Bend or Redmond area restaurants. (Bend - population roughly 82,000 - has more restaurants per capita than any other city in Oregon "they" say.) This is Oregon Beef country, where cattle are range (not feed lot) raised with tender loving care. Any local, quality restaurant that uses local Oregon Beef product and has a quality focused kitchen should be able to produce a good steak. You might try Brickhouse (Redmond), Terrebone Depot (Terrebone), Zydeco, Scanlon's or even Greg's Grill (all in Bend). And at any of those options, you might actually get what you're paying for in atmosphere and quality, because Tumalo Feed is not an inexpensive place. Nice people work there, though, and that is the single thing that makes me bump up the rating to two stars.

How disappointed!!! $25 ribeye looked like it was steamed and then au jus poured over it. Wifes shoulder steak was great. Mountain oysters...eh at best. Did not live up to the yelp.

Love this place. Staff and atmosphere is very friendly. The restaurant is only open at dinner starting at 5, but the bar opens at 4:30. Onions ring appetizers (tasty!!) and salad are included. The huckleberry vinaigrette is delicious! Ordered the steak and lobster, a little over done, but it didn't ruin my night. Having straight horseradish in addition to the creamy was a plus as well! As I understand it, this is the place to go. I wasn't blown away, but the food was good!

Tried a couple times but each time get horrible service ( from which we were told was the owners) very rude, no smiles, make you feel not welcome. We tried the lounge hoping for an appetizer and cocktails it couldn't be too bad but..it was! Again the bar tender was rude he looked at us like we didnt belong there never asked what we wanted just stood by the table, the food tasted like frozen appetizers and the whole atmosphere was dark and out of date. You would think they would at least befriend locals but they don't. Drive 5 minutes more and go anywhere else in Bend

This is definitely not my kind of place... too much food, and it's pretty grimy and cowboy-ish... but I guess that I AM in Central Oregon, and it's somewhat common to run across this type of joint here. I'd be okay with the looks of this place if the food weren't so super-dull and fried. First, there is just way too much food (did I already mention that?). I hate getting too much food - I feel obligated to eat it (bad) and I feel like a loser when I don't take it home (bad) and I also feel like every person without enough food knows that I'm wasting precious (kinda) food (bad) - so overall, not a positive feeling when eating in or leaving this place. You order your steak (yeah, that's what you're ordering) and you get this endless supply of carbohydrates, plus a pretty gross salad (I love me a good side-salad, and this isn't it). The steak was cooked pretty close to order (however, not perfect, and that's a problem since the other stuff is just fluff). I really felt like this was one average steak - and that surprised me since it was supposed to be THE steak in Central Oregon. Ugh. I did, however, have a good time here because I was with my dad and my sister and brother in-law and we could make jokes about the place... but I will never need to return here. I can see that if you liked lots of food and didn't care about quality or ambiance then this would be your place... but if you care about either of those things - think about going somewhere else.

  • Emily P.

I'm not really sure how they can call this place a steak house, other than the fact that it's all they really serve as far as food goes. The ambiance feels like a dirty kitchen that stinks of fried food, the plastic red and white checker table cloth is used until unraveled, and I'm not quite sure that the kids serving are old enough to bring you a cheap beer. If all you got was the steak with nothing else, and I mean, nothing else, it would be good. But, the fried everything, the crappy iceberg lettuce salad, brown beans, brown bread, brown everything else you could easily leave behind. And, of course, there is nothing I like more in the world than a fantastic steak served with a nice, bold red wine. Forget about it here! The wine list is almost non-existent. Bring your own bottle, but don't expect any nice glasses! So, if I had my choice (which I always do), I'd much rather spend $25 at the grocery store for the meanest steak on the block, grill it at home and enjoy a nice bottle of wine from Cork Cellars. Money much better spent.

Great local establishment. Everything is included in the price of your meal so there are no surprises or extra cost except for your alcohol. They give you onion rings as your starter. We had rib-eye medium rare (and it was) your salad (I had blue cheese, which wasnice and thick and it tasted like blue cheese, yummy), garlic bread, BBQ beans, potato and desert. We were pleasantly surprised and will go back again to try happy hour. The atmosphere made you feel like you were in an old time saloon when you sat in the bar. The restaurant portion was a comfortable family style feel. And the service was good. Granted it's not GREAT food but it's good food with good atmosphere, period.

This Place is amazing. The Best steak will ever eat in your LIFE... You start out with Onion Rings and Salsa, kind different but the Onion Rings were really good!!! Next you get a salad, which is just a normal salad but good. Finally your steak, the most amazing steak you will ever put into your mouth, along with the steak comes country style potatos, baked beans and garlic bread. The potatos were good, garlic bread pretty good, the beans were not really that great but we didnt really care because the steak was that good. To top off the fabulous dinner we had a sanitelle(spelling?) float, basically a root beer float and truly it was the best float we have ever had. I think it was mug root beer with Everett French vanilla ice cream. Soo Yummy. If you are in Central Oregon and want a good american meal...This 100% the place to go!!! Along with the great food, the service was excellent and they were super fast,e ven on a Friday night!

Actually, given that this IS a steak house in Central Oregon, their calamari steak is very good. Yes, it is fried, but not greasy at all. My husband loves the steaks and the quantity here....and, a good value to boot. We will be back again!

Few things in life are as good as a perfectly prepared steak. The folks at Tumalo Feed Company have this figured out. Dinner dining is situated in an "Old West" feel, with antique furniture, and pictures galore. Each meal comes with onion rings and salsa, salad, baked beans, fried potatoes, and dessert. All you have to do is choose your cut of meat, and whether you want it bloody as hell, or burnt to a crisp. YUM. But, it is spendy, so be prepared. It is well worth the cost.

This is a local steakhouse, and comparing it to Ruth's Chris - and i have eaten in the ORIGINAL in Metarie, is not fair, to Ruth's Chris. That restaurant has become a chain and this is NOT. I much prefer the local establishment or hole in the wall. The sides that are served beginning with the welcoming onion rings, are family style. The onion rings are a bit greasy but you come to a steak house for steak, right? The sides that come with the meal the salad, beans help to round out the steak and the home fries, especially, are very good. This is the ONLY restaurant that I have found in the Bend Redmond area that actually knows how to pepper crust a steak AND make it medium rare, a truly good find in my opinion and the NY Strip has been perfectly cooked for me. Also there is a secret about Tumalo Feed that only the locals know, and I'm NOT going to divulge it. Leave it to say that it is a wonderful secret! I have taken numerous family members here and will do so again.

ok, im going to try and write this from my husbands point of view... because this is not my kind of restaurant. lets just start by noting the AMOUNT of food you get. they sit you down and give you a basket of onion rings and salsa. the salsa is actually pretty good, though not spicy. ok, they take your order. i order the calamari steaks,( that said they were grilled, but were fried) bad choice i guess. my husband order the special of fillets wrapped in bacon and topped with shrimp. before our entrees arrived, we each got a salad, (all of these sides i list are included with each meal) then garlic bread, then fried potatoes and beans. and our meals! needless to say, my husband ate almost all of it,but i was full before my meal even arrived, and that ended up being a good thing. there is also an inclusive dessert or after dinner cocktail with the meal. i didnt enjoy my calamari. there was nothing really wrong with it: fried calamari, rice and some bland buttery sauce. just not my type of meal. now my husband on the other hand..... was in heaven. this is his favorite place in the world now. he loved his food! the decor is really cute. they had a live band in the back bar. the service was great. if you are looking for a fun traditional style dinner, with lots of food... this is the place for you.

Just had dinner here and I'm writing this review right away so I dont forget. The food was amazing and we had excellent service. We had the 14 oz prime rib and the 8 oz flat iron steak with baby back ribs. The meat was cooked perfectly. Everything was seasoned well. You can taste the diff herbs on the prime rib. The steak had a nice crust and tasted amazing. Baby back ribs were juicy and delicious. None of the flavors were overwhelming and not greasy. The entrees are huge. You get a choice of two sides with all the entrees. It is enough food for two people to share. We both had enough leftovers for another meal. One thing to note is that the shrimp cocktail is with bay shrimps. See pics. Still pretty tasty. The price for the quality of food is excellent. We will be coming back for sure.

I have to make this average despite there being some positives... The service was exemplary, well done! My friend's steak was done perfectly, medium rare, which is iffy lots of places. My big problem is that I ordered baby-back ribs, which I love. What arrived at my place was a nice pile of ribs. However: First, they were so overcooked they were a bit like leather. Second, they were NOT baby back ribs!!! They were pork spare ribs, a much inferior cut in my opinion...... Really, you try and pass these off as baby-backs? Disappointing, I won't be back, baby.....

Well, we just had one of the worst experiences we have had at a restaurant. We called ahead for a reservation of 11 and made sure they had baked potatoes left and they confirmed they had plenty. The first thing they said after seating us was that they were out of baked potatoes and there was nothing they could do. That was at 7:30pm, the waitress asked the manager to come chat with us and she said "I heard there was a problem" and then said "there is nothing I can do about it, maybe comp a dessert", so that didn't help at all. Then we waited about 1.5 hours for our food (9:00pm - so plenty of time to cook baked potatoes at this point) , when it came out every meal was wrong, all of the sides were wrong and for some reason everyone got rice pilaf and not one of us ordered it. To make matters worse it took about 10 minutes to figure out which meals were which as she had no idea who ordered what. After figuring out who was missing their correct sides she went back to get them and came out with MORE rice Pilaf, we were sure we were on camera at that point. We were the only ones left and it took forever to get the bill and then forever to pay the bill. We eventually started to get up and went to find the waitress. We left just after 10pm. They didn't comp anything. Our guests were in from out of town and we were taking them to a very nice restaurant that would reflect Bend well as we have always loved going there in the past and we're excited to take them. Let's just say we never plan on going back and we had to apologize to our guests.

Best cut of steak I've had in quite some time. Sautéed mushrooms and roasted garlic were fresh. Had a Deadwood drop cocktail to finish off this fantastic meal.

Western food for people that want to eat at a place that was young back when the West was young. The old West is here in every rusty nail (that's not a drink here, son) and piece of tack on the wall. Beef is what's for dinner, if you have a lick of sense, but the sides keep up with the rest of the herd. Great seafood (or Sea Beef) as well. Don't forget to top it all off with a Sarsaparilla Float too, partner. Your stomach will be happy all down the rest of the trail.

To be honest with you the restaurant wasn't what I was expecting... The cheesy "western" decor could use some serious updating although the restaurant itself was clean. (Which I appreciate...) We started out with a house salad and shrimp cocktail. It's hard to mess up a shrimp cocktail so I'll skip to the salad. I opted for the Huckleberry vinaigrette and unless you like VERY sweet stuff on your salad I would skip the vinaigrette and stick to a traditional dressing. For the main course we had the rib steak and the filet. Both were very well cooked and tender which kind of surprised me. The rib steak didn't need any sauces on it which for my husband is saying something. My filet, while good, didn't have that -make my eyes roll back in my head- flavor that I crave when eating a filet. Overall not a bad place but I think the Bend area has better restaurants to spend your money in.
