Went on Friday night to get take out. Place was almost empty! We had four rolls and they were all spectacular. Each one was great and unique. They don't have an extensive menu, but what they have is good. Will go back. It is great to find a new place right around the corner from home.

These people are fabulous. Service amazing, food perfectly delicious, large portions & fresh, kid's menu HEAVEN with the salmon bento boxes especially. We love it, our kids love it & highly recommend. Location leaves a little to be desired, but this is truly a diamond in the rough.

Been coming to Tomo since they opened and have been here during the week (when it's pretty empty) and on Monday's for their half price sushi. Close to the house and don't have to drive to the Mill or Downtown. Sushi is good and fresh. Went 5/26/14 and it was packed but no wait for the sushi bar and no line out the door like I've experienced a few times before. This experience was by far the worst. Service and timing was TERRIBLE!!! Should have had a clue since there were quite a few new faces working there Monday. Non attentive servers unless you stopped them as they were rushing past our seats. The wife ordered the yakisoba and I a couple of rolls. Her food came out fairly quick. Mine however, didn't arrive until AFTER she finished half her meal and boxed the rest. Seems like the sushi chefs didn't know (or want to) stagger the plates at the bar. A few seats down, a couple were getting served plate after plate before finishing one. I made my displeasure known to Matt and Mr. White Kangol Hat and White Glove Man (Jensen?). Matt smiled at me and thought I was kidding and had to repeat myself. Ha! Halfway through my sushi Mr. Kangol asked if I need a to go box. WTF? At this point the place was more than half empty and now he's making me feel like I need to be rushed out? The wife commented on how rude that was and I agreed. I packed up half my rolls and left them a measly gratuity (even with terrible service I felt bad not leaving anything) My wife wouldn't have been so nice. Sorry Tomo, for your dreadful service on a Monday, I won't be going back any other day. Kanpai or 5 Fusion Happy Hour will be my first choice.

I'm completely irritated and almost angry. I ordered "Tomo" through a delivery service for supper. Apparently they must think we don't count as customers because my order sucked!!! $8 for a yakitori dish that provided me with half a skewer of something completely unrecognizable!!! Over $10 for a vegetable roll that fell apart before I even opened the box....the chicken gyoza were hard and dry, and not even a sauce to dip them in. The "chicken teriyaki" was without teriyaki!! Not only will I never order from there again, you won't catch me going in.

We ordered out Tomo once and everything was messed up. We ate in to give it another chance and we waited forever for everything... Unfortunately I would have to say this is the worse sushi place in Bend.

Fantastic sushi, great service, and pricing is reasonable. Book a party in the tata room for a more private fun dining experience. Real crab hand roll, sugar daddy roll and salmon sashimi is amazing. Don't let location deter you. Great place. Highly recommend trying it. Monday is half price so get there early and be patient:)

Spontaneous decision to have sushi for lunch today - and happened to be on the south end of town. Good decision! I took a gamble and did the nigiri lunch combo, sat at the sushi bar, and got AMAZING food and great service. The fish was really fresh, the chef was experimenting with a sauce that I really liked, and the rice was perfectly prepared. Try the unagi with chocolate sauce - it made my eyes roll back in my head!

Last two times I've came here the service has been horrible. They forgot to bring out half our order and dropped off the bill before we could even ask our server what was going on with our food. And the other time I went there the service was yet again a big let down. Hope they get it together and hire better people who actually want to be in the services industry.

Monday night sushi is a ritual now. You have to get there early, but the food is awesome and the half price is so great! Service can be either really slow or really fast so be prepared, but it is so worth it! Cheapest best sushi in town!

We wanted to find an Japanese/Asian Fusion restaurant off the west side where we eat out most of the time. We found Tomo's on the south end of the old Hwy 97 ( near Walmart) off Power's. We are savvy sashimi, sushi and asian diner's. We were delightfully surprised by the service, the exquisite spicy tuna and hamachi rolls, the freshest shashimi hamachi I have had since living in San Francisco and the garlic edamame which I have nevef had but highly recommend. To boot, there is a young pastry chef, Emerson that made a fried banana, strawberry ice cream with chocolate sauce that melted in our mouths. There are multiple Saki's- sweet/dry/local/imported, craft beers, cocktails and wines that will complement your meal. Or, if you like nonalcoholic beverages there are many mock-tails to enjoy. In Bend, we have an array of nice restaurants, then we have a few fine restaurants. Tomo's, is one of the finer places and it's worth the 13 minute drive from Shevlin Park Road west side of Bend to the south end of town. We are sure to be back with friends and for catering events that we are involved in....... I highly recommend this fine Sushi restaurant.... Enjoy....

So happy with our entire meal! After living in California Hawaii and Alaska we appreciate good sushi etc This was great! Beautiful, tasty and good service! The sushi rolls, miso soup and appetizers were all fantastic! It's in a strip mall but once you are inside you would never know it. Our server was very knowledgable and friendly, thanks Hailey! We will be back for sure.

We went here on a Saturday night and aside from one other couple we were alone with several staff members. The service was fantastic as one would expect but the food was not great. We both left half way expecting to be sick by morning but that *did not* happen. The sushi was poorly (very loose) rolled and the fish was...soft and fishy. Aka not fresh, The best part of our 35minute anniversary dinner was the chef proudly pitching his dessert. A lovely tiramisu made by Chef Mike (microwave). Check please!

The sushi rolls were good! But the timing in when you get them was terrible! There was NO ONE in the restaurant but us and all we ordered was some sashimi, One order of salmon and one order of tuna and it took a good 15-20 minutes to get there. Ridiculous! Not sure I would go again.

Stopped by for dinner with the fam while on vacation in Bend.. All I can say is Awesome!! We had just been in SF the week before and the food here rivaled anything we had there at a fraction of the price... The nigiri was great.. Generous cuts of firm fresh fish and just the right amount of rice.. Had a mix of rolls... Some old fav's and a couple I hadn't tried before.. I was worried that the kids (7 and 5) wouldn't try anything but I ended up having to fight them for the last pieces.. Service was great and they kept the food and drinks coming. Next time we're in central OR, we will definitely be back!

On Mondays, some of their sushi is half off. The rolls aren't all that tasty and some of them are rolled pretty hastily (spider roll). Passable teriyaki chicken, good miso soup, nice service despite the restaurant being completely full as everyone and their moms come here on Monday nights. Three star for finding my Iphone I left in the bathroom.

I come here way more than I check in. But you only need to know when things change although nothing has changed here. Food is still good and I come here way more for lunch than I do dinner. Monday half price rolls is still busy but good.

this is a really good place! The Bend Bulletin gave it a very unjust review. The sushi is great. We think the prices are reasonable.

I heard about this place a few years ago and was blown away. It is now my favorite sushi resaurant in Bend. The portions are generous, the fish is fresh and the presentation is great. I also crave their home-made gingerale, it is yummy! It is located in a small non-assuming strip mall by a gas station on the south end of Bend, but is worth a drive. They also have half price sushi on Mondays, but don't expect dinner to be a quick event. It may take 2 hours to get out of there. On other nights the service is efficient and friendly. This is also the best value sushi you can find in Bend.

Okay, so here's the tip my physical therapist passed along to me this morning that I'll pass along to you. On Mondays, beginning at 4pm, sushi is half price at Tomo. No kidding! When my hubby and I went in for lunch today, our first visit to Tomo in some time, we confirmed it. But as the PT said so said the Tomo manager...if you go on Monday expect a long wait for a table and also for sushi service at the table once you are seated. We're just sayin'...a bargain comes with those drawbacks. So be prepared. That said, we were reminded again today as we enjoyed good and fresh sushi at Tomo that this is a place where service is slower, so it is good to be prepared for that no matter when you go. The service is slower because unlike some other sushi places in town where premade sushi is used, at Tomo everything is made to order. And that takes time. We like the fact that the slower pace gives us a chance to unwind, sip tea, enjoy the friendly wait staff and the welcoming interior (Tomo means friend in Japanese we think) and anticipate each beautiful and delicious plate before it is served. In addition to the full menu that is served at dinner, at lunch there are lunch specials, including lunch bento boxes. At both meals there are daily specials posted on a neon "chalkboard" over the sushi bar. After several visits to Tomo, our favs are the octopus nigiri, ungari nigiri, oven baked green mussels (we ask to have the fish roe that tops them left off), rainbow rolls, wasabi rolls, and a specialty that has been on the chalkboard a time or two that we remember being titled pink lady roll. We tried the tempura one time and were not enough impressed to order it a second time, but that may be because we're still grieving the loss of the tempura at Deep...it was the best in town for tempura while it was in town. May be time to try Tomo tempura again. And the ribs on the happy hour menu have been calling our name for some time, but have not yet tried them. Happy hour on some weekdays (Tues - Fri? 4 - 6?) has several menu items as small plates at low prices. Alcohol seems to be limited to sake, sake based cocktails, other wine and beer. Although we never make it past the tea pot. This is not cheap sushi, but the good stuff never is. Neither is it too expensive. The prices are reasonable for the good quality. A good value from our perspective. And on Monday nights, as it turns out, it is almost a steal to eat sushi at Tomo! But don't tell anyone else or soon it will be so that, to paraphrase the incomprable Yogi Berra, "No one goes there anymore. It's too popular."

Visiting Bend from sunny state Florida. Decided to give this restaurant a try. The Restaurant looks nice and clean. They offer large variety of sake cocktail drinks that I had never see before. I had a glass of "cherry blossom sake" witch was very nice. We had some off the menu dishes (just like most Sushi bar, you can request some special dishes, if you know what to ask for). The fish taste fresh (very important) and the price I thought was very good compare to CA and FL. We all enjoyed our dinner at Tomo. We will probably go back and give their lunch a try before heading back to FL.

Oh, how I wish we could award half-stars here on Yelp, because my experience at Tomo last night was really a 2.5. I went ahead and gave them a 3 in hopes that we can try them again and have a better experience. Like other reviewers have stated, Monday night is half-price sushi at Tomo. Yipee! So the husband and I dropped the kidlet off at a friends house and headed over to Tomo around 5pm. The place was fairly busy when we arrived (probably 3/4 of the tables filled), but with 3 servers an maybe a total of 15 tables in the whole place it really didn't seem too bad. Anyhow, our server was TERRIBLE. He took our order and then pretty much disappeared. Meanwhile, all of the tables around us (who had different servers) got drinks, miso, edamame, sushi.... and we waited. And waited. And waited. I seriously have no clue of where our server went--we saw him go back into the kitchen and never seemed to come out again! Finally, he showed up again (at least 30 minutes later) with our miso and told us that he had lost our sushi ticket. He sheepishly asked us to reorder and said that he'd move our ticket to the front of the line. Aaand, about 30 minutes later our sushi finally arrived. Over an hour for an order of 5 rolls. Mmmhmm. The sushi was good. Not phenomenal, but pretty good. The pieces were fairly large (which I was happy about since I was practically gnawing on my arm at that point) and everything was fresh and well-prepared. Our total bill for 5 rolls, two Sopporos and a ginger ale was $30, which is definitely reasonable for sushi in Bend! Unfortunately, to add insult to injury we waited another 20 minutes or so for our server to come back so we could pay our bill. ::sigh:: I finally flagged down one of the other servers and asked her for some assistance since our guy hadn't been seen since he dropped off our sushi an hour after we'd ordered it. Moral of the story--we will probably order sushi from Tomo again on a Monday night, but next time we're phoning in our order and getting take-out! Even though the sushi was good once we got it, the poor service will definitely keep me from dining in at Tomo again. This was seriously the first time in Bend that I actually pondered just walking out without paying (which is sooo not me, The Rule Follower). So take my advice and get order take-out on their half-price Mondays. Any other day I think you'd be paying too much for what you're getting, and I would have been livid to have paid more than we did last night for that crappy service.

For sushi in Bend there isn't many choices. Usually we wait until we hit Portland or Hawaii to really enjoy the sushi. We have eat here 5 times in the last 6 months and it does the job to provide adequate sushi, to hold us over until we can get out of town. I suggest you arrive before 5pm to get the happy hour deals, yet somehow we still end up spending over $60 for diner with no drinks. If you got a craving for Japanese food Tomos will hold you over until you can hit the big cities.

I spent $30.00 for a lunch here that should have been half that price. The restaurant is run by the same owner that had the Soba previously and decided to try something new. The rolls are way over-priced. I have never been to a Sushi restaurant that did'nt have a Tekka Roll on the menu. (your most basic Tuna roll) The chef said they have good deals at happy hour, but I doubt I'll be back.

Ok. All things considered, the sushi was ok. The price was right....however, they servers were poorly trained. THE EXPERIENCE: 1.) We sat. We ordered drinks. 2.) The complete drink order was not delivered and food orders were taken. 3.) Some drinks delivered.....not all. 4.) Some food delivered. 5.) Complete initial drink order not served. 6.) Sushi orders between 2 combined tables mixed up - we had to review our orders and re-distribute sushi between the party of 8. 7. ) Had to request dishes. 8.) Spicy Tuna hand rolls were limp and the server requested I "eat them quickly." Never, in the years of eating sushi, has a server suggested I eat something quickly. Not exactly sure what that was all about....but I ate them quickly. 9.) Had to request napkins....not one napkin was placed. Server gave me a stack of napkins to pass around the table! Wow. 10.) Initial drink order FINALLY COMPLETE!!!! We waited over 30 minutes for 2 large Saki. 11.) Upon "completing" our meal we discovered 2 rolls had not been delivered. Order canceled. 12.) Total length of dining experience - 2.5 hours. The poor service had a negative effect on the group experience. Everyone was obviously unhappy....and the energy of the table declined with the service. It was such chaos that an encounter with a manager and the potential scene it would cause would not have been worth it. Based on the service received, I honestly didn't think the manager, who is responsible for training, would have made a difference. Next time I'm in town, I will research another spot.

Since we are visiting from California we were looking for a good sushi restaurant and found Tomo through another review. It was excellent. The sushi was as fresh as we have had. The restaurant, presentation, service, friendliness was all just great. Would highly recommend it. We happened to get there in time for an early bird special (just before 6:00 p.m.) and found the prices to be very reasonable. There was a seperate menu for children, which is unusual for a sushi restaurant.

The wife and I dropped in because we were too tired to cook. Long, hot day. About 5:45. Place was cool and quiet, couple of customers, nice decor, background music and general feel. Server gave us a minute to settle, look around, take it in, but was immediately aware of us. Came right over as soon as we showed an interest. Service was friendly, informative as to off menu items, competent, and gracious. We ordered some standard nigiri items, a roll, and tried several new things, specials from Tomo. The lichee martini and the hot tea were very tasty, the chefs were quick, all the fish was fresh and the sauces were a nice combination of "standards" and novel. We enjoyed the place, people and food for about an hour. The place started to fill up with customers, including some kind of small party in a more traditional appearing side room. All very nice. Great first time, will certainly be taking some friends and family that will enjoy a high quality place and sushi. A very good find, definitely improved our day.

It was good. A little overpriced for what you get. But nice quality sushi and good service. Very nice decor inside. The first time I had ever enjoyed pickled carrot in a roll - super tasty. If I visit Bend again, I wouldn't hesitate returning to Tomo.

Pork Belly Ramen. Pork. Belly. Ramen. That is all I need to tell you. I don't order anything else. I know you think that ramen is what you make in the microwave at work for lunch, or what you lived on when in college. I get that. That crappy, dried flavorless mess that was only made edible with powdered MSG infused chicken or beef "packets?" Well, forget that. This is not the ramen you remember. This is a hearty, flavorful meal that will knock you out. Get the pork belly. It's like bacon and noodles and it's awesome.

Last night we had the most amazing dinner at Tomo. The service was perfect (thanks, Condo!) and the sushi chef knows what he's doing! Thank you, Emmerson! He started us off with a beautiful and delicious sashimi plate, followed by several fabulous rolls and tempura. I'm fairly new to sushi and this place did not disappoint!

Something has changed about Tomo recently. The sushi has gone from good to "yum"! We came in a week ago on a Monday and did the typical 30-45 min wait. But our rolls were so much better this time around (and I swear it's not just because I was starving). Confirmed the new level of goodness at lunch a few days ago. My favorite rolls are currently the hot samurai roll, wasabi roll, and crunchy spicy tuna. So happy to have a sushi restaurant stepping up their game!

Tomo has a great soothing atmosphere with a great menu, and specials. The waiters and chefs are knowledgable and the sushi is fresh and delish. We loved the music and the wine list and it was quiet and intimate for conversation.

Tomo is still by far my favorite sushi place. I can't speak to the entire menu though, I only order the Nigiri Sushi or the Nigiri & Roll lunch combo.

  • William S.

Awful. Not sure what happened to this place. I travel to Bend often and this used to be a favorite spot of mine to eat, but not anymore. The service is the worst I have ever seen, the last I ate here I sat at my table for 20 minuets with no communications from a hostess or server, no drink or water, so I left. Today I was told that they no longer accept phone in orders....really? So I am done. Your service sucks and I can't sit in my hotel room and eat your food either? Don't even try to eat here, you will leave frustrated and hungry

Seriously??? Do we see a trend in all the bad reviews??? I understand that finding good sushi in Bend Oregon is next to impossible but this takes the cake. We asked the chef to replicate something we loved eating in Orange County CA. Apparently that was a mistake. It was nothing like what we were describing and the price tag was $20 bucks each for one small serving. Give me a break! Everything we tried was less than mediocre. We never received the soup we ordered, the service was slow and there was hardly anyone in there. Basically you feel ignored and the staff seems very unhappy. Lame. Not going back.

    (1)
  • Kai B.

service was below par but you kinda see a glimmer of effort from the sushi chef to get shit done quicker. Poor Brian (sous-chef?) he got barked at every five seconds and we were sitting at the bar. stayed for longer than an hour and a half. sushi was ok. felt the rolls were on the small side. ama ebi head was kinda on the burnt side and didn't care for the vinegary tempura sauce that came with it. oh and the $13 pork "belly" ramen.. take it off the menu. it sucked. that was not pork belly. where the belly fat at?

Hijo ni yoi! The yelp reviews were not glowing but not horrendous. Sushi just sounded good as well as a little cold saki. Tomo was right next door to my hotel so I took a chance and was pleasantly surprised. I went on a Monday night which is half off most rolls. The place was packed. It was about a 30 minute wait to sit at the counter. I had a crunchy spicy tuna roll and a tempera roll with my cold saki. The service was good. The food was very good! I would come back to Tomo, probably on a Monday night.

No way will we be back until something changes here. There is something wrong here and we can't quite put our finger on it. The sushi is different (good vs. bad) depending upon the chef. In addition, the atmosphere is different depending upon the chef. They started smoking their fish...without telling anyone. Who does this to fresh sushi? . It tasted like liquid smoke. The chef also stated after our order that he had started seasoning all of his sushi with his special spice blend. When we tried the pieces it tasted like it almost cooked the fish. We did not like. The fish was not fresh. The tuna had a very soft almost mushy texture. We did not feel well when we left. I agree with other reviews also about the service. You have to ask for service or they will ignore you. no one talks here. They do not attempt to get to know you like they used to. it is the weirdest thing. It's like they're all afraid they will get in trouble if they socialize with the customer. the bottom line is we have had good and bad experiences here. last two visits were terrible.

  • Annie P.

We started coming to Tomo when it first opened and loved coming here for years, even after it gained in popularity from their Monday night sushi deal. I believe it is under new ownership in the last year or two and I have to say we miss our circa 2010-11 Tomo. Before we never had a bad or "off" tasting roll, now we've had bad experiences the last two times we have eaten here over a several month period - once dining in and once for take out. The seaweed on our rolls was very tough and hard to bite/digest the first time, tuna is mushy and too room temp for our liking so it doesn't taste fresh, inconsistent sizing on our formerly favorite rolls, and our spider roll last night almost had a rancid taste to it. I'm sad to write this, but we won't be back to our old favorite sushi restaurant again.
