New downtown establishment is a bar that serves a little food not a restaurant that has a bar. Focus is on expensive artisan libations and they are as creative as is the Dogwood Cocktail Cabin name. Not the demographic they are aiming to target, my husband and I still enjoyed a happy hour visit. We would go back. But only for happy hour and only at one of the tables on the first floor. Funky (almost bizarre) vibe, friendly service, good but spendy drinks, martinis reduced to $6 during happy hour and creative bar food. Should have a bright future in Bend's increasingly alcohol fueled downtown nightlife. (Troubling, that trend.) BACKSTORY Owners also own the Dogwood Cocktail Cabin in the resort mountain town of Crested Butte, CO. DEMOGRAPHIC Looking at marketing material, including photos posted by the owners here on Yelp and the video posted on the page linked here from the Dogwood Cocktail Cabin web site, see if you can find the disconnect between the hipster market they're aiming at there and the photo of me on my Yelp profile. :-) thedogwoodcocktailcabin.… SERVICE I saw the marketing materials before our foray to Cocktail Cabin and I was thinking we'd feel out of place. But I was emboldened to think of some of my Yelp friends of similar age (we can answer the question of where we were when JFK was shot). Nolo timere, Boomers! The server who greeted us after we took a seat at one of the four two top tables that resemble cross cut timber right inside the entry door was friendly. Although she may have thought my husband and I were escapees from "the home" out for a little fun given their target clientele, she was delightfully unpretentious. INTERIOR INCLUDING SEATING This awkward space was once home to Astro Lounge and in that day was dark and pretty awful. Then as now the space is long and narrow with a staircase up to a loft area where much of the seating is located and still awkward from my perch. Nothing they could do about that format. But for what they could do, lightening up the space, putting in big windows at the front, creating seating at the bar on the main floor at about a dozen high stools, four or so more high stools at window counter and then seating for eight at two tops of standard seating, they have done very well. Votive candles on the tables were a nice touch This interior design had a bizarre dream quality to it. starting with the big art piece of animals, some with human nude bodies and animal heads, in a party scene in the entry, chandeliers and light scones with monkeys in suits and sort of "George Jetson Worthy" (that dates me) lights at bar. LIBATIONS The drink menu is still being fleshed out to mirror the other location as the bottom had a footnote "complete menu coming soon". We asked our server about it as it seemed like an extensive menu of specialty drinks to us in categories titled Martinis ($11), Cocktails ($12) and Bubbles ($9) along with a few options in beer and wine. (For Bend's beer culture, the menu also had a note that said beer taps were coming soon.) The drinks had clever names and interesting ingredients, some with vegetable juices like beet or herbs like fennel or spices like sumac. Since happy hour (4 - 6) offers Martini's at the reduced price of $6, we sampled three of those and one cocktail along with a couple of plates of bar food. Our selections, and we enjoyed them all, included... ...Southern Sidecar (cocktail $12) with Makers, blood orange juice, bitters and a Sumac dusted rim ...Portugese (martini $11/6) included rum, pureed fig and port ...MoJo JoJo (martini) with gin, lemon and mint ...Rikki Tikki Tava (martini) with tequila, cardamom and orange FOOD Short menu of bar food ranged from standard options like spiced nuts and olives, each around $6, to creative takes on bar standards like chile ribs, brisket filled buns, chicken wings tandoori style with cauliflower, curried mussels and so on in the $12 to $13 range. We chose fried macaroni n cheese (think arancini like @ 3 for $12 or 1 at $4) but asked to hold the truffle oil as listed on menu. (What serious kitchen uses that chemical compund oil these days?) Accompanied by a green salad with lemon vinaigrette and slices of Granny Smith apples, it was delicious. We also shared a chacuterrie and cheese plate. Good quality but at $13 it seemed a couple of bucks over priced. The pickled veg with it were addictive! THIS N THAT: 1) PARKING: On street in downtown Bend...good luck with that. 2) ACCESSIBILITY: Level in and throughout first floor. Four standard height tables. A portion of the main bar has been lowered to standard height. 3) NO MINORS 4) THE ART: If it starts to make sense, you've had too much!

Cool atmosphere. Average service. Weak drinks. I ordered the Juan Connery which is a scotch cocktail with Chipotle. $12. Weak and watery tasting. I've had similar experiences with other cocktails here in the past.. Probably won't be back.

Words cannot express how much my husband and I LOVED this place! We were visiting Bend for the week and I had heard some good things about this place and thought we should check it out. The atmosphere is very unique and perfect for grabbing a drink and just hanging out. We didn't want to leave! The lighting, music, decor everything is perfect for helping you relax and have fun. The cocktails are pricey, but you are paying for truly artisanal cocktails. They are known for special infused alcohols like a honeydew vodka (delish I might add!), with unique blends and top shelf liquor. The Xanadu and Bluebird are fantastic! If you aren't looking for a cocktail and simply want beer or cider (this is Bend after all) they do offer a few and those prices are actually some of the best in town if you are on a tighter budget. Sadly, we always came here late and didn't get to try their happy hour (prices looked great!) or their food. While the atmosphere and cocktails are wonderful, what really made this place standout was the service! My husband and I have been in the service industry for years and could not get over how incredibly friendly, helpful and just plain wonderful the staff were. Ayla was our bartender/server two of the nights we were here and she was the main reason we kept coming back. She made us feel as though we were old friends and we loved her company as well as the others. Ayla is the best! :) Keep amazing staff like her around with the fabulous drinks and this location will be a mainstay in Bend for sometime!

The cocktails here are amazing! Ambiance, service, food, and drink is all top-notch. There really is a drink here for everyone. I even ordered tacos last night and those were great as well! Every drink I've had here, from gin, to tequila, to whiskey, has been made perfectly. Happy hour and ladies night are both excellent. They really know how to make a drink!

4 stars for the cocktails. 1 star for the service tonight. The tattooed gal with the pigtails needs to learn how to smile and be even a bit courteous. No one wants to drink where the staff is miserable. I tried to explain the kind of cocktail I liked and the response was "don't worry, they're all strong". From previous visits (with different bar staff) I thought Dogwood was going to be a notch above Bend's other drinking joints. Service is critical, and I'll find another option if Pigtails is working.

This place is awesome! The atmosphere alone brings you in to the location and the staff makes you stay. Every drink is well-thought-out and tastes like perfection. I definitely recommend the dogwood margarita as a tequila drink. The dried plum at the top of the glass adds salty flavor. Amazingly well-thought-out. The Thai rice salad is a great bite to eat while having some cocktails. The music is amazing. Atmosphere is funky and trendy. All I can say is it is quite the experience and everyone in Bend should definitely experience this awesome cocktail bar!

We have been wanting to try Dogwood for a while now and finally got to tonight. Stopped in for happy hour before heading to a dinner reservation and had a great time. The food- steak tartare and the pork meatballs- was delicious and the portions were very generous. The drinks, both happy hour and non happy hour, were tasty! The atmosphere combined with our awesome bartender made for a great stop. We will definitely be back and look forward to another enjoyable experience. Wish we had a Dogwood in Southern California!! Huge fan of the overall vibe of this little gem.

I adore this bar....the drinks are delicious and the ambiance is SO a la Wes Anderson. Ryan is my favourite bartender....super chill. The lamb gyros rock. Signed native Bendites. :-)

Go for the food, stay for the cocktails. A truly unexpected find. Went here for a cocktail before dinner. Cocktails were amazing, after checking the menu decided to give the food a try. Outstanding! What makes this place special is the creative small plate menu that chef Nick creates. We had three dishes , all were superb. Foodies this is your destination in Bend. Service was impeccable. Our serve Bootsy (yep) was super helpful. Every suggestion she made was spot on, and her attentiveness served to enhance a great food and cocktail experience. If you trolling around downtown with crowded restaurants at every turn, make a stop here, the name suggests cocktails, but the food deserves equal billing!

I can say I have never been here when the service was NOT slow. However, I am usually waiting for our table to open up next-door at Barrio. I'm not sure if it's a combination of been shortstaffed or the inventive cocktail menu that takes the bartender some time, but it's worth the wait.

Late post! I went to the Dogwood for New Years Eve 2014 and had THE BEST NEW YEARS IN FOREVER!! The music was fabulous! The food was OMG. The Macaroni was so good and the chicken wings were soooooo yummy we ordered two! Lamb sliders....ummmm yep. Delicioso! Ok and I am embarrassed to say how many drinks I tried but I remember these ones: Rose bud, Southern Sidecar and Poco Loco. Man I'm telling u everything was so delish, fun and great service. We danced the night away. I seriously can't wait to go back this weekend!! Woooooohoooooo!!!

Best food in Bend! The Dogwood is know for great drinks but the food here should be celebrated. The food is not the average bland chain food that most are used to. It is dynamic and interesting. I would say it was the most interesting and flavorful I've had in Bend. The environment was great. The servers knowable and kind. I'm definitely coming again!

  • Chelsea T.

Outstanding! The ingredients in the drinks and food are refreshingly different. It's nice to see options on the menu that you've never tried before. A lovely little 5-7pm happy hour with $6 martinis. I'd definitely give this place a try if you've never been. The food was delicious and I couldn't get enough of the drinks! The prices for drinks are high, but they also pour them strong so you get your moneys worth. A downtown must for cocktails and drinks.

Love this place! Great atmosphere and great vive. I've only tried drinks and nuts so far but plan on going back when I'm hungry. Upstairs has a great view and it's really cozy. Great date night spot!

AMAZING drinks! My husband and I are usually not cocktail people, but I had the shrub and he had the bee sting. SO good and refreshing on a hot day. Loved the funky, artistic interior and the huge painting on the wall of humans with animal heads dancing the night away. We also had a couple small plates- the watermelon rind salad and the cider braised pork belly. Both were fresh and delectable. Very happy we popped in here on a quiet Sunday afternoon- what a great find!

Good spot to grab a drink and food. Lots of infused liquors make for very interested martini flavors. Creative drink and food menu. Martinis run $6 at happy hour. The hibiscus and port have been favorites so far, poco loco is also good. Cool design and environment. Good food.

  • Doug K.

Happy hour drinks were ridiculously sweet. Their overpriced margarita doesn't even have 100% agave tequila in it. Very disappointed on my last visit. The stihl is cheaper and the cocktails are awesome. And they use top shelf for their drinks.

  • Vinnie B.

I absolutely love this place. The cocktails are very thought out and creative by the owner/mixologist. My favs are BLUEBIRD (I could drink these all night), Dogwood Margarita, Orange Margarita. The food really is amazing, this is NOT "bar food" trust me. The chef is doing some tasty high end stuff, The service is attentive, fast and cool. The nightly entertainment is a added touch to an already great romantic cocktail bar. The decor and Art work in so cool. . So happy to find this place, I just wish I lived closer.

No thanks Liked the location and atmosphere, funky, bizarre humorous artwork. Large drink menu with lots unusual Martini's, margaritas and other sweet drinks. We came for happy hour and found they didn't really offer much. Happy hour consisted of $6 martinis from 4-6pm ( but they opened at five?). I thought everything was over priced. House wine $9 a glass. Other cocktails $10-12 each. Microbrews just three choices (a porter, IPA, and a lager). The small menu had interesting items mostly very small plates (tapas) for $10-15 each. The beef BBQ tacos were good as was the cheese and salami patter. The egg/ bacon salad looked very fresh. The lamb kabob was just okay, and the chicken pieces looked a little too extra crispy. Spicy Indian seasonings on the tacos and kabobs made it not as enjoyable. Overall Expensive, and we left hungry and thirsty. We went down the street and had drinks and a burger at the brewery spending half as much for more food and beverages. On street Parking can be a challenge. Parking garage is short two block walk and free.

Amazing cocktails! Inventive menu that introduces flavors in small plates ideal for sharing. Seven spice pork meatballs are a must, as well as the sweet potato gnocchi and the Beetnik martini. The owners were mixing this specialty at Dogwood in Crested Butte and I'm so happy it's made it's way to Bend! These folks know how to mix a cocktail! We are happy to see the place growing as a favorite for local foodies, elevated tastes, lovers of creative libations and a sweet vibe with a funky rustic decor!

I love everything about this bar, or "cocktail cabin". The ambiance is cozy & inspiring, the drinks are creative and oh so tasty. I was forcing myself to try them all because they are so unique, but alas, I have given up. I love the beetnik too much.

The Dogwood Cocktail Cabin is leading the way in Bend, OR for a great place for a date, casual meet up, or business meeting. Doug and Phoebe have handcrafted the Dogwood into a exceptional business with beautiful decor and a great ambiance. The wait staff is attentive and always friendly in their suggestions about what wonderful cocktail to try next. Chef Nick makes magic, it doesn't matter what he makes, it's all wonderful and if I had the money he would be my personal chef. If you haven't had the opportunity to stop by, do yourself a favor and do so.

Love, Love, Love this place. It is not like any lounge in Bend. We always get great service because we have a set server named "Oscar". The drinks are great and we love the atmosphere. One suggestion could be is to have someone at the front door to control the flow of traffic. It's hard to say anything bad about this place. I saw some reviews that had stated that drinks are expensive but you get what you pay for and its well worth it.

False advertisement at it's finest! You guys should be ashamed of yourselves for the Bite of Bend. Whoever was in charge of that needs to be shipped off to a third world country in a cardboard box without air holes. Preferably cut up into tiny, tiny, portions like our food was. The event was supposed to be 3 hours. You kept us there for 6 hours. 5pm-11pm on a Tuesday night. We were fed 7 tiny BITES of food over the 6 hours. Everyone left starving! All we could talk about was which fast food restaurant to hit on the way home. For $85 a person we should have been fed dinner. Not ONE ravioli, one shrimp, HALF of a scallop, 4 little cubes of watermelon and two tiny finger sized strips of COLD bison skirt steak. There was no information about why you did the tiny drink pairings with the tiny food. The "cold dishes" were served warm. The food that was supposed to be hot was served cold. Did you refrigerate it after you cooked it? Our table couldn't even understand how that was possible! You guys were happy to collect our money and let us sit there doing nothing. No entertainment, no music, no mystery dinner other than when our next plate might FINALLY come. Our entire table and the two tables next to us will never set foot inside of Dogwood again. Other than the people who collected our money, no one was happy. I hope this one night of highway robbery was worth all the future business you lost. We will be telling all of our friends and anyone who visits Bend to avoid you at all cost.

Drinks, Great. Food, Amazing! Come between 5-7 for their happy hour martinis and if you are wise you will eat here as well. Simple, light yet dynamic, the food is quite possibly the best in Bend.

We were here last night while we were waiting for a table for dinner next door. This place was great!! The drinks were amazing; they have awesome mixologists here. We also had an appetizer and that was very nice as well. :)

The MOJO Jojo was the best, and the Paco Loco ran a close second. Try the rosemary nuts for a quick appetizer, loved it. The Korean BBQ Tacos were great also.

Went back to the Dogwood for dinner & drinks with friends on a long vacation weekend. Had such an amazing time we went back the next night and shut the place down! This has to be the BEST spot in Bend! We've gone to other places downtown, and while most are good, the Dogwood by far exceeds and excels in all fields. I'll start with the food. We literally tried everything on the menu, we had 7 people with us, and every dish was masterfully prepared, beautiful to look at, and the flavors were out of sight! Drink menu is very comprehensive. Something for everyone, they even have virgin drinks! No lame Shirley Temples here, very well thought out and executed menu mixed by friendly bartenders. As I stated before, the atmosphere is very cool. I like the floor plan. Every area is semi-secluded, yet inclusive to the whole bar. And on Saturday night they had a DJ playing jazz/soul music. Everyone was taping their feet and nodding their heads. Over all this is one of the best places in Oregon. The owners are very nice and make time to talk with all of the patrons. That is refreshing to see. Wait staff is excellent. Only wish we lived closer so we could visit with more frequency. Already planning future visits with friend for the spring/summer. Do yourself a favor and treat yourself and loved ones to a evening at the Dogwood.

Service was terrible. Food, drinks and ambiance were AWESOME. Went here for appetizers and cocktails with a girlfriend last night. Wasn't terribly busy for a Thursday-- yet for some reason, the service was just terrible. Our food came out before our cocktails (drinks should not take 15 minutes to show up after being ordered). I had the lavender martini (amazing!)....and our appetizers were great too. My favorite was the meatball appetizer. Sweet savory meatballs in a ginger broth with edamame and sweet mushrooms... so good. Really wish the service was better.... we had a third friend join our group half way through dinner and the waitress never even came to get her drink order. I had to go ask for our check after sitting with empty glasses and empty plates for nearly 10 minutes. I may go back to try their happy hour and belly up at the bar rather than a side table (perhaps that will improve service).

This place is pretty awesome. I've brought my girlfriend here twice now because of their cheesecake.. Yeah, the cheesecake. It's Vegan, Gluten Free, and it's incredible! I'm not even vegan or gluten free and we've both fallen in love with it. The drinks are good and the staff is very cool. Definitely a great little spot in Downtown Bend. Check it out.

Great happy hour $6 martinis! The Rosemary one is my favorite! I also tried the beet, lavender, habanero, and vanilla martinis. The atmosphere upstairs has a really cool vibe. I'll definitely be back for more!

Been a while since I have been here, not sure how this happened but it has actually gotten better. Very busy still prompt service cocktails fast and great. Then the food came, had the five spice meatballs literally the best thing I have ever had. This place is awesome!

This place is marvelous. Wonderfully decorated, always great music playing (same as Crested Butte location), amazing service and a real addition to the City of Bend. Personal favorite: Poco Loco and Mac-n-cheese balls (yum)!

Don't get me wrong, they have a better-than-average cocktail menu. We came here for my birthday and our crew racked up a nice big tab. We are in our early 40's so we're a fairly mellow crew; not obnoxious and demanding or anything like that. But we had the RUDEST server. She was so put out and let us know that. When we got the bill with an automatic 20% gratuity added in, I marched down and asked to speak with the manager and asked that this gratuity be removed. He did it, but he gave me the same non-plussed, verging-on-an-eye-roll look that the server I was complaining about did. He did not apologize to us, or about her behavior at all. I think this awful server gets her cues on how to treat customers from management, quite frankly. They are too cool to provide any customer service, apparently.

Lovely location. I reserved a table for 12 for a small mixer, having never visited this venue before, based on the reviews. They weren't wrong. Charming staff, delicious cocktails, great music, but not so loud you couldn't visit with your table. Definitely will be coming back, often.

Best cocktail menu in Bend. A switch up from another brewery! Rosebuds are my fav. Girly, sweet, bubbly & with petals. Worth the $$.

Great place! There food menu was very diverse and very different for what i'm used to seeing at a cocktail bar, but very well executed. We tried their saag paneer indian poutine. Which was much different than any other poutine i've ever tried but was delicious. My wifeand I also tried their smoked pork chop. It was good, but a littlethinner than i would have liked and a bit over smoked, but was not completely dis satisfied. All in all, very cool place, cool atmosphere and really cool bartender.

The atmosphere at the Dogwood is unreal -- super cozy and intimate. You would think you were actually in a swanky cabin. Every cocktail I tried was delicious and but by far my favorite is the Beetnik. Cocktails are expensive, but it's worth it!

Tonight was our first time in, went in to be greeted by unfriendly bartenders. Finally ordered 2 drinks. Took quite awhile. The drinks were good, but $24 for 2 drinks and when my boyfriend gave them $30 and asked for change he got a $5 and a $1. I'm a server and I know that's not the appropriate way to give change. Also the wait staff didn't talk to each other, smile or much less engage with any of the 5 people sitting at the bar on a slow Saturday night. We left them the more than decent tip but they sure didn't deserve it and we won't be back again!

WOW!! A group went in over the Memorial Day Week End and were excited to find such a GREAT place. The food and drinks were AMAZING!!! It was fun trying all the different selections. Many items were unfamiliar to us but the way they were prepared was soooo good. We look forward to our next trip and trying more of their delicious choices. Great Location, Great Service and Great Food! Love it, Love it, Love it! Melanie, Jan, Mike, Denny

We popped in for a cocktail and I was definitely in the mood for a margarita. I had the Orange blossom special which was super tasty. My other half had the southern sidecar which was also delicious. The food menu looked great and we were tempted by quite a few dishes. Had we not already ODed on bar type food during our Bend brewery visits we definitely would have eaten here. The cocktails were the type that only get better as you drink them and we continued to marvel at the depth of both drinks. There is only so much beer you can drink without turning into a cranky bloated slug and this place is the antidote. Can't wait to come back for a night of cocktails and nibbles.

Visiting for Summerfest I stopped in this place - twice. I was impressed that the craft cocktails, unique menu (think mussels and tater tots) and atmosphere matched beautifully. The service was prompt and friendly. Having lived in Bend in the past, it is wonderful to see such a novel establishment moving in. Well done!

SUPER COOL! I had the beer martini, it was amazing! Also, the spicy jalapeño margarita was excellent. Really great atmosphere and not pretentious, which it looks like it would be. If I lived in bend, I'd be there all the time!

This is a wonderful little spot with really good cocktails and great ambiance. They have A LOT of options which can be daunting. It is my personal goal to try all of them.... they also have happy hour until 6 pm daily. A lot of their drinks are $4 off during happy hour. They also have food - I have only tried the crab risotto cakes which were okay, not great. I've heard the food is good. So far the best drink I have had is the Thai One On - it has coconut milk and basil and is amazing. I like tart, sour, spiritous drinks that aren't too sweet. I love floral flavors and prefer vodka and rum drinks and they have a ton of options. Here's the list of drinks we have tried in order of deliciousness: 1. Thai one on - coconut milk, basil, vodka, malibu and so delicious 2. Juan Connery - rye and some other stuff, actually pretty good even though I don't like rye 3. Xanadu - cantaloupe and vodka, on the sweet side but good 4. Orange Blossom Special - strong tequila kick, but pretty good, it has mint which doesn't really go with the rest of the drink 5. Rosebud - was pretty disappointed with this one, sounded so good on the menu I'll be back!

What can I say? My favorite place to go in bend. Great drinks, great music, excellent staff, and a owner who genuinely cares about his product. Perfect ambiance for downtown Bend. Always bringing in great djs from around the west coast. Love the wood! Oh, get the Xanadu if it is in season!

  • Alicia W.

Everything I have ever tried some this place (drink and food) has been wonderful. The cocktails list is truly artistic and expansive. The strange combinations can be intimidating but I've learned to just point and choose because it will be amazing one way or another. The food is way past bar food, it ranges more along the quality of Zydeco. I had their Dogwood's scallop dish last I was there and it was seriously the best scallops I have ever had in my life! (my mouth is watering now) In short, I love this place and will be back soon!
