Order: Spring rolls and Pho. About me: I've lived over 10 years in the bay area. Pho has been one of our favorite foods and we ate Pho in the bay frequently. I've travelled to Laos which borders Vietnam and Pho is a popular dish there as well. The Pho: First spoon fulls were excellent but the taste soon became saturating. It was rather salty and sour. I was rather fed up with the strong flavor about half way through. It had a generous amount of meat in it for my dish. It was a slightly below average Pho dish as far as flavor. I ordered a large bowl which was expensive at $9.99. The bowl was tiny compared to a large bowl at most restaurants where the price is below $7. Affordable? Not this place. Way above norm. The size of the bowl was a small at all other places I've been. I didn't get any utensils and I had to ask for that separately. Then I got the normal chopsticks and spoons. There was no sign of the sugar which is usually served with the Pho. We did get the normal tray with bean sprouts, spicy peppers, basil and lemon. I had to ask for the hoisin sauce, then they came with it, Sriracha sauce. Fish sauce was missing. And there was no pepper oil. Spring Rolls: We asked the waitress to have this served with the mean. She said 'OK' but it came first anyway. The spring rolls tasted plain and they were very expensive at only two for $7, the price for a normal large bowl of Pho at other places. There was no kids menu. Service: As you can probably gather already, the service was abysmal. We had to ask for every single thing, even things to eat with. They didn't pay attention to our requests. They were busy as it was a Friday night, but this is no excuse for an overpriced meal. We had no attention from the staff at all and we had to call out every time we needed anything. The tip was less than 10% Conclusion: We're not going back. UPDATE: if you want authentic vietnamese place, Dang's are now open. I rated them 5/5 yelp.com/biz/dangs-vietn…

Methinks not... exactly! I hate to write a bad review BUT our second time back was our last. We both had chicken dishes which tasted ok at the time, but a day later we were both sick with food poisoning.... enough said

We went here for my fix of summer rolls. Appearance of place is charming and service was fast. In fact, my rolls appeared immediately, obviously not freshly made. By the third bite the taste of mold was definitely there. Sick all day with obvious food poisoning. Taste of fresh tomatoes on husband's dish was also well past their sell date. Slick first impression does not cover for bad food!

Sweet Saigon is just what downtown Bend has been missing--- it is affordable, luxury, Vietnamese dining and the pho is out of this world! The staff is very accommodating and very friendly. Definitely my new favorite spot in town!

Dehydrated for any reason? Get the chicken noodle pha (aka: soup). Guaranteed to warm you from the inside out, whether you've been waiting for Santa to show at the Christmas parade, are suffering from the flu, or perhaps a few too many Bend beers. Everything is fresh and flavorful. We esp. enjoy the salad rolls - light yet satifsying.

You know, I keep seeing stuff on the menu I want to try, but I can't lay off the Pho long enough to do it. The family that owns and runs the place are great people. Enjoy the food, but try to meet them too. They're neat.

Pho Viet Café is one of my favorite places to eat in Bend so naturally I have been anticipating the opening of Sweet Saigon. My fiancé and I received pretty decent service even though the place was packed. Our waiter made sure we were happy and our food arrived in a timely manner. The biggest difference between this location and the Café location are probably prices and portions. My large bowl of Pho seemed smaller here, at Sweet Saigon. The prices are not a huge concern to me; I rather eat downtown and pay more. The food quality is just what you would expect; it tastes just like their other location. For some reason I thought the menu would be different than Pho Viet, but it is basically the same. The reasons why Sweet Saigon is better than Pho Viet: *Beer taps - they have just a few, but a nice addition for a Vietnamese place *Full bar *Better ambiance - they might need to lose a few awkwardly place tables but no big deal *Location! This is just what Downtown Bend needs :)

I am shocked by the negative reviews. I have been going to this restaurant for over a year. The food and service are amazing. I love the pho. It's legit. The owners put so much effort into making the food. The owners Tan and his wife Tammy are amazing hard workers and honest people. They own Pho Viet restaurant on 3rd street too and the quality of food and service are great in both locations. I work in downtown so I have been going to sweet Saigon more consistently. My co-workers love the restaurant too. The owners are honest and good people and their passion shows

App: shrimp and pork spring rolls - basic and good Entree: veggie pho - good veggie variety I wasn't feeling very well, but I knew soup would help. I felt 10 times better after the soup - yum. Service was good, quality was good, and price was right. The reason it's not a 5 stars is because there wasn't anything that stood out. It was good Vietnamese food, but not the best I've ever had. I would return though.

I was so happy to see that there was a new pho restaurant coming out (the 3rd st. location) and my family eagerly went to try it out. So good! Loved it and became instant friends with the owners who are so passionate about food! The new location is just as good and has more of an ambiance! The food is delicious (I LOVE the lemongrass phad Thai and the chicken pho) and their Thai Iced tea is awesome! Definitely a good stop!

Used my capitol one card to pay. The very NEXT DAY fraud was reported on my card. crazy charges from other cities. Capitol one said I should not have let the card leave my sight. (we were sitting outside to eat during the bike race in bend) . They took the card inside for processing... and it appears a lot more. Makes me so mad. Ill never go back. Advice : use cash only if you dare to go to this establishment.

There is no possible way I can fully capture into words the horror of our experience here. Some of you may believe this and some may not. Sometimes I, myself, think it had to have been a dream. But I swear to you this story TRUE! Not only was it surreal, but downright scary! Where do I even start?! We were on our way to the Taj Palace when we were "approached" by a man trying to get us to try the restaurant, we'll call him Finger Food (this will be explained further). He pressured us worse than a used car salesman and we felt trapped, yet thought we might as well give it a try. Wow were we wrong! Finger Food went from friendly to impatient and annoyed when we didn't immediately know what we wanted. Then he kept grabbing the menu out of my hand and pointing to random items trying to force us to order something. We settled on our order and he was then annoyed because we decided to share something. There were filthy community chopsticks and spoons on each table for anyone to use. We were not going there. At this point we noticed the awkwardness of the out of place sports bar. Then we took note of the bartender as he appeared to be constantly chewing on something or just rolling something around in his mouth with his tongue. We'll call him Prison Mike, complete with prison tats and an abundance of jailhouse "swagger". His presence was very alarming when he would just sneak up to your table and rudely "confiscate" things, all the while still chewing. Now, I'm not an uptight person, but we were truly frightened at this place! We started to panic and wanted to leave, but we went against our gut and stayed. I said "You never know, this could be the best meal we've ever had....or our last." And now the actual food experience. Our food arrived and it was nothing like was described on the menu. But that was the least of our concerns. Here came Finger Food with a giant unidentifiable omelet-like mass. Oh, by the way, we were hit in the face with a shocking and confusing smell. We thought it was coming from a person, but realized it was the food. Then Finger Food proceeded to ask us if we knew how to eat it. Our confusion at the question must have been apparent because he decided to "show" us with his bare hands. First he took the only knife and fork that we had and began cutting the mass. Then he grabbed a piece of lettuce off our plate, ripped it, grabbed a handful of the greasy mass and plopped in inside the lettuce, and then grabbed other toppings as well. He then tried to roll it up but it broke with the contents spilling out into his hands. He then handed the fingered food to my friend and told her to dip it and then eat it. He wanted to watch us eat. We were shaking with laughter we were trying to conceal and terror. There was no way we were putting that in our mouths. Next he ordered me to grab a community spoon for my friend to scoop out some sauce. We looked at each other in horror and both of us paused. Finger Food then forcefully ordered me again to get her the spoon. He then told her to eat it and at that moment she bought us some time by asking him for an extra plate. I kid you not, he brought the plate, greasy finger smears and all. He then wanted to watch us eat again and I improvised and asked for a fork. He brought the fork and actually walked away. All these other reviews about lack of service were NOT the experience we had. We mustered up the courage to each try a bite of an untouched part of the food and it was horrendous. We then went into fight or flight mode as we were being glared at by Finger Food and Prison Mike. We began to frantically cut, mangle, and rearrange the food to make it look like we ate it. When we realized it was futile we considered dashing but feared an imminent shanking. Plan B. I would pretend I was on the phone and something suddenly came up and we needed a box right away. We couldn't complain for fear of our lives. We figured that $20 was a small price to pay for our freedom. I told my friend "I do believe we just joined a cult". We were sitting against the window and saw an unsuspecting couple walk up to look at the menu. My friend was facing the window and shook her head at them in a warning fashion. I looked around to see if it was clear then turned to face the window and tried to signal with my face that they should run away as fast as they can. Then we sheepishly asked Prison Mike for a box and shakily handed him a credit card. Or mantra was "Don't look him the eye, don't look him in the eye". As he was bringing back the card he stopped to talk to some other customers and then proceeded to "readjust" himself. The second we got the card back we bolted and threw our to-go box in the garbage outside. When we got home my husband urged us to call the credit card company to dispute the charges based on the claim that it was a hostage situation. Needless to say we do not recommend eating here. We do not recommend even walking by without a police escor

I was a big fan of their 3rd street location (pho viet cafe). I was excited to finally try the downtown location. HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT. It tasted like standard china buffet quality food. It tasted like corn syrup and salt. Goey and just gross. I took a few bites and left.

The service, price, quantity of food, location, and atmosphere are all fantastic here. Twice this past week, and I'll definitely be coming again. Nice and friendly staff, which is key!

Well, from what I can tell, this relatively new arrival is pretty overpriced and short on the portions. That said, I am used to Seattle and SoCal Vietnamese cuisine and prices, so maybe that's just how Bend rolls. So far, this review is based on one very small Ca Phe Sua Da (which was about half condensed milk : / ) and a look through the menu. The service is friendly, and the place smells great, but I will probably wait til I get back home to eat Viet.

Great Vietnamese sandwiches. I like the bbq pork one. The bread is great (I'd guess from one of Bend's fantastic local bakeries) and the other ingredients are fresh and distinctive. The sandwich does come with a healthy dose of mayo, but I like that.

After living in SF Bay area I've sampled many bowls of pho. Very few restaurants offered a vegetarian option. Since I've now quit eating chicken and beef I was delighted to find a true veggie option. The vegetable broth was light and delicious and all the soup vegetables fresh and tasty. Lots of tofu completed the healthy dish. I will definitely return again. Won't give 5 stars until I've sampled other items on the menu.

I met a group here for book club and ordered Lemongrass Chicken but the waiter brought Lemongrass Shrimp. When I pointed out the error he said, "Don't you like shrimp?" And, I replied that I was not a fan. He then retrieved his notes and proceeded to show me where I supposedly ordered shrimp! The entire table caught on to what was happening and we were all aghast at this total lack of customer service. It then came to light that he brought shrimp instead of chicken to someone else and convinced yet another person to order shrimp instead of chicken! Really? Too many people are allergic to shellfish to be playing these kinds of games.

My husband and I ate there today, he had the crawfish special that came with potatoes and corn on the cob, it was all nice and spicy and cooked in the same pot it seemed and he loved his dinner. I went with teriyaki chicken and it was delicious and pretty presentation. The restaurant is pretty and we had excellent service. Typically, we've gone to Pho's on 3rd street, and I believe this place is owned by the same family so we tried Sweet Saigon and we'll be back. We really like the imperial rolls as an appetizer.

Food was great! Slightly confusing and muddled menu....interest decor that completely lacks any sort of ambience. But the food....delicious.

Had a wonderful meal outside during the Bend Summer Fest. Enjoyed the vermicelli bowl and grilled chicken immensely. My wife found the chicken dish very salty but they fixed it right up. Very friendly staff and great service. Loved it.

Had the BEST mango martini. The bartender Tan has a GREAT sense of humor . We were going to split the chicken teriyaki, and he insisted it was a great idea to bump up the quantity for just $5 more. Was he ever right!!! This meal was sooooo delicious. We only come to Bend once a year, and will be back here every time. Thank you!

Phenomenal pho. My husband said he had the best bbq pork banh mi sandwich EVER (other places will give you too many random chunks of fat, the baguette will be stale, etc.) Will definitely be back :)

Extremely attentive service and quick too. We had Pho and yakisoba and salad rolls and all of it was great! Very authentic food and a HUGE menu. It was hard to pick what to have because there were so many good choices. They checked on us many times and we will definitely come back.

My family and I have been fans of Sweet Saigon since the day they first opened their doors. We eat here often so we have a long record of experience on which to base this review. The service is consistently efficient and friendly and the food may be the best to be found in Central Oregon! I find it hard to believe any reviewer who would suggest otherwise, and based on my own experience with Yelp! and the lack of accountability for the content contained in a reviewer's post, it is pretty clear to me that any post that gives this establishment a poor rating is simply working for the competition - trying to drive business away from Sweet Saigon in order to benefit a competing restaurant. We have dined in most of the restaurants in Bend and have traveled all over the world and eaten in many, many luxury restaurants and Sweet Saigon's food ranks right up there with the finest. But I encourage you not to take my word for it. Try Sweet Saigon for yourself. You'll be very glad you did!

Food was OK, I liked that apparent Vietnamese customers ate there .... But, boy do they not want to serve their customers. Slow like molasses in a restaurant not even half full. The head waiter/boss man/proprietor seemed aloof, almost arrogant. And then they stiffed me for my beer. $4.00 on the menu, but $4.50 on the bill. Beware!!

Bring it on in "Sweet Saigon"!!!! If you go through Bend, Oregon, you have to eat here! Very fresh ingredients and healthy food at a great price. The kids loved the food also. Mango martinis were delicious too! The service was extremely friendly and helpful. The entire family enjoyed this restaurant and it made a great memory for our vacation.

This was probably the second best pho I've ever had. Lots of noodles, chicken was tender and moist. Service was impeccable. All the heat I dumped in my bowl my server was basically standing over me waiting to refill my water like my dog does before I wake up and she needs to pee.

  • Jasmine M.

Saw dumplings in the heated food stand outside, $4 each which sounded totally reasonable. So, we spent $15 (including tip) to get three dumplings...made purely of dough (and maybe 5% meat and veggies...and a hard boiled egg??) that were microwaved in saran wrap (GROSS! Cancer much?) On top of this, we waited ten plus minutes because the microwave blew the fuse twice. I've never asked for my money back, anywhere, before but I definitely would have here if it weren't for the language barrier. DO NOT GO HERE! Get Dumplings at Dump City Dumpling food truck instead (those are delicious!)

Worst dining experience in recent memory. Almost amusingly bad customer service; wish we would have run at that first sign! Their clam dish, supposedly a specialty, is a traumatizing looking plate of broken clam shells and generally suspect clams doused in a heavy brown goop pretending to be a sauce. If this was a war zone, I'd understand. Underwhelming but serviceable pho. If you are looking for a place to have a good cry, try Sweet Saigon. If you want to eat, go anywhere else in Bend (Jackson's Corner, Esta Bien, Spork, Kebaba are top choices!).

Having grown up in the Bay Area and spent 12 years in San Diego, I miss the diversity of the restaurants. So, pretty thrilled to have a Vietnamese restaurant in town. Went there for lunch this week, I've been once before. Large restaurant, plenty of seating, no wait, quick service. I had the pad thai with chicken. I liked it, thought it was pretty darn good in fact. Full of flavor, lots of chicken, sprouts, peanuts and lime to put on the dish if I so chose. Nicely presented and plenty hot. Sriracha on the table to spice things up a bit. Also ordered the Imperial Rolls. Disappointed. In my opinion, they were cooked in oil that wasn't fresh. Meaning that they were especially dark and had a bit of the old oil taste to them. Too bad. I'm going again for the pad thai. the pho gets good reviews from other users, so I would be game to try that as well. I'm going to stay away from anything fried.

The lemongrass tofu and friendly service keep us coming back for more! Already a fan of Pho Viet, Sweet Saigon's sister restaurant, I was excited to try the downtown outpost. I've been in several times now and LOVE this place. And talk about super VIP service: Went in with my Dad and he was craving the crispy pork. To his disappointment, they didn't have any prepared yet. 10 mins later, the owner Tan, walks in and says that he came in just to cook for us! My Dad's face lit up like a Christmas tree and all was right in the world. Even when I go in for take out, the experience is lovely. I'm seated at the bar and served a cup of hot tea while I wait for my order.

Worst sandwich ever. I had the tofu which was good but the bread was falling apart and it tasted overwhelming like rotten fish. The yakisoba tasted like nothing. Will never go back.

My husband, two young kids and I ate lunch here while in town for Winterfest, and it was delicious! I've somehow only had pho once prior to this, and it sounded good on a cold sunny day. Because our kids (2 and 5) are not picky and eat pretty small amounts, my husband and I usually share our plates with them rather than ordering separate kid plates. Since we didn't know quite what to expect size-wise, we also ordered a side of rice noodles for them. Turned out to be unnecessary because the portion sizes are pretty large. I went with the small chicken pho. The bowl was still very large for the small price tag. The flavor was AMAZING. Lemongrass was subtle, but definitely there. Tender chicken, just perfectly spiced broth (I want some now!) My husband decided to play it safe with teriyaki chicken. Huge plate, good amount of veggies with it. He also got a small bowl of broth and a side of rice that were included in the price. The chicken was the best teriyaki chicken either of us have had. Grilled, slightly charred on the outside. SO TENDER that it pretty much melts in your mouth, and the sauce/spices rubbed on it were so flavorful. Great value, great food, and great service. Highly recommend!

This is the second day in a row I have returned for their tofu pad thai, it is the BOMB! The pho is good also. The noodles they use are fresh noodles that give you that chewy goodness, not dried. Don't hesitate to try this place. I am from Portland but will definitely return on my next visit to Bend! They have a second location on hwy. 97.

Sweet Saigon is open In the space once occupied by the now defunct Amalias. It is the downtown Bend located sibling to funky Pho Viet which is located on Highway 97 (aka 3rd Street). Similar menu at both, although Sweet Saigon has a few additions. Higher prices here, with better ambiance and slighly less chaotic service than Pho Viet. The owner told us tonight, and we all shared in the chuckle, he works for his wife and he works for love. That he works to make his customers love Sweet Saigon is also evident. A good thing for sure. But there are still some misses here in spite of his good intention. Service issues and too high food prices for what it is (he's candid he has higher rent here to cover) along with awkward and tight seating all factor in to three stars. AMBIANCE: The surroundings in the downtown locale reflect pride of ownership. A couple of tropical fish tanks are in open spaces between the dining room and the bar. Glass tops over red tablecloths. On the down side, same awkward set up as when this was Amalias of a gauntlet of tightly spaced high perch tables in bar to navigate to get to main dining room seating. MENU: / FOOD: The aroma when you open the door at Sweet Saigon holds the promise of SE Asian food. Menu is similar to Pho Viet with Vietnamese standards and a few non Vietnamese specialities. There are also a few extras here that do not appear on Pho Viet's menu for lunch and dinner. Breakfast Pho offered too. VALUE: Prices are higher here for the same items offered at Pho Viet.. The price of Vietnamese coffee and fresh rolls here is larceny, imho. BAR: Sweet Saigon does not yet have a happy hour menu for libations or food, but did offer a discount on menu appetizers, Bud Light, and well drinks. SERVICE: Friendly but with the same disjointed approach as at Pho Viet. Maybe that will improve after inevitable new restaurant wobbles work out. But Pho Viet's big negative is service and the owner needs to focus on that here too. More "up-town" setting than Pho Viet and higher prices means diners rightly have higher service expectations here. For example, Pho Viet is the kind of funky dining space where the buser may bring a plastic tub from the kitchen to put dirty dishes into from the table behind you (as has been our experience there). A more "street noodle house" expectation there means one suspends some expectations for service qualit.. But here, with this being packaged as a fine dining restaurant by the owner, service needs to follow. At Sweet Saigon, as at Pho Viet, the observation is the folks serving want to do a good job but have had next to no service experience or training and know little about Vietnamese food. That is the owner's job to fix.. HOSPITALITY: The owner was in the house with warm greetings for his customers, just as when he is at Pho Viet. The bartender who greeted us at the door made a great "we're glad you're here" first impression. It seems the bartender has had professional restaurant experience. My husband and I left hoping the owner leverages that to have him train other staff. ACCESSIBILITY: Bar table seating is all very high perch chairs and tables for now. Both the bar tender and owner were receptive to the request to add a couple of standard seating height tables in the bar to meet ADA issues for equal access so people with disabilities who can't climb up on high perch tables can also have equal access to the bar area. Thumbs up for willingness to fix the seating inequality soon through promise to move a lower table in there. THIS N THAT: One table set up on the sidewalk for display in this cold weather time suggests they may have outdoor, sidewalk located seating come warmer weather.
