I have been a customer for almost 20+ years and if you want decent food at a decent price then Mazatlan is the place for you. Friendly staff and excellent service.

The outside of this place doesn't appear to be like your typical Mexican restaurant and we almost drove away. But the inside was colorfully decorated the "usual" festive way. I thought the prices were a bit higher than the ones where I live but I guess that's expected in Bend. It took awhile before they took our order and they weren't very busy at all on Sunday night after 7:00 pm. We received one very small cereal bowl sized chips for 3 people and it came with spicy salsa and tiny bowl of refried beans while we waited. The food came out very quickly. No refills of chips OR drinks ever came and the waitress never stopped back by after serving our food. We had chicken enchiladas and taco salad. Both were good but the chicken was a little dry and they didn't put quite enough sauce on them. I dont think we'd go back again as there are several other Mexican restaurants in the area.

DO NOT GO HERE ANYMORE. My family and I have been going to this Mazatlan for over a decade. It used to be this awesome restaurant with semi-authentic food at a great price, friendly staff, wonderful atmosphere, just all around a great restaurant. This is no longer the case. The food is now CRAP. The prices have gone up by a small but significant amount. The beans are soupy and bland. Salsa now tastes like its canned and they dumped in some hot sauce. The rice is crunchy, dry, and flavorless, almost stale. Flauntas for an app were mostly just crispy fried tortilla with a hint of some sort of meat product inside, and were nearly $10. Guacamole now tastes like it came out of a bucket. My seafood enchilada was soggy tortillas with almost no actual filling, and what little there was had no flavor or texture. Sauce was weak, cheese tasted old. Way overpriced even if it didn't taste like soggy cardboard. My wifes chicken & bean burrito was mostly tortilla with some chicken in there somewhere, again the plate loaded down with soupy beans and stale rice. Service was hard to get and when you finally got a hold of someone they were rude. We had to get our own high chair for our youngest son, so I had a nice little scavenger hunt around the restaurant. At the end of it all, after the crappy, bland, soggy food delivered EVENTUALLY by staff who then ignored you until it was time for you to pay, they REQUIRE a 15% gratuity, minimum. You cannot NOT pay at least a 15% tip. The new computer system will not let you pay anything other than 15%, 20% or 25% tip. We've been going here for nearly 15 years. We will not be going again.

We just happened upon this restaurant and everything was great, including the service. I had chicken enchiladas, which had a fantastic sauce and was topped with melted cheddar cheese. The kids and everybody raved. The salsa is spicy (which is a good thing) and they also bring out a side of beans with the chips. All and all it was a great experience. We will definitely return.

Our family has been going to Mazatlan for YEARS, and I can tell you, we have never once been disappointed. Their fajitas are in my top 3 meals ever, and their enchiladas are also bomb. The staff know us by name and are friendly and quick. Highly recommend.

I think the best thing I liked about this place was the staff. Friendly people but for mexican food very gringo. Not authentic, however, good luck trying to find any authentic mexican food anywhere in Bend.

The service here is great! The food is not authentic but it is so good. It is one of best Mexican restaurants in town. It's always my first choice. They have a great variety of well made drinks. Everything is at a great price point.

Finally had an opportunity to eat at Mazatlan. Brought the family, party of 7. I ordered Camarones al Mojo de Ajo. It is my favorite go-to order at restaurants all over the nation. What I got here at Mazatlan...was mushrooms, onions, and shrimp. HUNDREDS of mushrooms. I mean...seriously...there was 1/2 a plate of mushrooms. If my review were based on just this one dish, it would be a one-star review and I'd never be back. Most everything else was good, and everyone enjoyed their meals. "Hit the spot" was a common comment from the family. Chips were fresh and plentiful. Margaritas were very well prepared. We had about 6 different things across the orders, and they were all prepared very well. Lots of food. Bean dip (just refried beans) served with the chips was appreciated. Friendly waitstaff. Enjoyed our time there. We'll be back...I'm not ordering the garlic shrimp though.

My favorite place to take the whole family. Easy on the wallet when feeding all 5 of us. Our waiter remembers us and the kids which makes us feel even more welcome. The interior could use a update, holes/tears in some of the upholstery. Overall, very clean.

Unfortunately the food is not so good anymore. We used to choose Mazatlan every time we were craving good cheesy Americanized Mexican food, but now we choose other spots first. The quality has gone down and so has the service.

Margaritas are wonderful! There are several menu items that are our favorites - cheese enchiladas, pollo ala crema, anything steak, and bean burrito. This is our favorite Mexican food restaurant. And it's very affordable.

Excellent Jalisco cuisine. Tex-Mex folks will need to expand their horizons for this is traditional food well prepared and presented. Super!

Local friends took us here last night and it was the best Mexican food we've had in Bend all summer. Forget the higher priced places around town (we've tried them all), this is good honest Mexican food with great friendly service. And their chips don't come out of a bag like the other places. Nothing fancy or pretty but you get what you pay for in spades at Mazatlan.

This is one of my favorite Mexican restaurants in Bend. The prices are moderate (compared to other Bend Mexican restaurants) but the food gets 8 out of 10 stars. The food is a little better at El Caporal but their prices are a lot higher also. My ex and I considered this to be "our" place. The service is excellent and so is the food. Try it, you'll like it!!

Was delicious!! Very large portions, great taste! The salsa was homemade and had just the right kick! I had the Chili Verde an it was perfect! Yummy!

Clean and neat. Weak drinks, and bland Americanized Mexican that smacks of packaged dead food. Will not return. Staff was attentive.

When, oh when, am I going to find great Mexican food in Bend? It certainly wasn't last night when I went with some friends to Mazatlan. We had a pretty big group--nearly 20 women--so it was a little loud and hectic. Everyone at the table, with the exception of myself, ordered margaritas. I had a Pacifico since I don't do tequila. Anyhow, they have a small margarita or a jumbo margarita. The ladies sitting next to me enjoyed jumbo Cadillac margaritas which apparently contain grand marnier. Unfortunately, the ladies reported that the margaritas were weak. We placed our orders and were all starving, so it was great to have chips and salsa in front of us. The salsa was definitely bland, though. I like a nice, hot salsa, but this stuff was more like a grocery store brand mild salsa. It was edible, but not great. With a group of 20 people, it's often hard for restaurants to bring out all of the food at the same time. But the staff at Mazatlan did a great job getting all of our food out within a few minutes. Yay for team work! Once I dug into my plate, I was disappointed. I had ordered a cheese enchilada and a chicken taco (my old standby that I like to compare at new Mexican restaurants). However, what I found was a chicken enchilada and a ground beef taco. Normally I would have sent my plate back, but with such a large group I knew that errors were inevitable. So I went ahead and tried something different. The chicken enchilada was ok. The chicken wasn't very seasoned and there definitely wasn't as much enchilada sauce, which I'm starting to see as a trend in Bend Mexican food establishments. The taco was not good. The beef was very salty, but not at all spicey. Just kind of icky. The shell was soggy and fell apart while I went to take my first bite. I had about 3 bites and figured that was enough. The other people in my party seemed to enjoy their food. The two women across from me ordered the arroz con pollo with corn tortillas and insisted that it was delicious. Others at the table had chicken nachos and chili rellenos. I didn't hear any complaints. I was a little disappointed that our server never came back to the table to see if anyone wanted more drinks. I would have loved another beer, but our server was nowhere to be found until our checks arrived. Probably the best thing about our trip to Mazatlan was that they split the bill for us and gave us each our own ticket. This is often a rarity when dining with such a large group. So bonus points for Mazatlan there. Unless my husband was really, really wants to try Mazatlan, I don't think I'll be going there again anytime soon. I still need to find some decent Mexican food in Bend.

I've been to Bend (to visit my sister and her family) five times, every time we MUST go to Mazatlan. It is so delicious. I love that everything is smothered in cheesy deliciousness. The service is always great. They recognize regulars and greet them like family. The food NEVER disappoints. My favorite thing at Mazatlan is the chimichanga. It's seriously awesome. I'm always surprised at how cheap the bill is because the food is so good. If you like American style Mexican food, Mazatlan is a great choice!

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
