HT is one of my favorite places to eat in Bend! It's unique for its good honest fresh fish entrees, excellent service, and quiet dining room. No need for shouting your conversations. Love you High Tides

Let me say right off that the High Tides Seafood Grill in Bend is by far the best pure-play seafood house in Bend and central Oregon. In the universe of seafood places it merits 4 stars; in the universe of local seafood places it rates 5 stars and is far beyond any local competition. The place is small, and because it is in downtown Bend parking can sometimes be a problem. They were out of the New England clam chowder this evening :( so I to "settle" for the smoked salmon chowder. Which turned out to not to be settling for anything as it was excellent. Their grilled seafood platter was a bit on the greasy side, but the seafood was fresh and well done. With some trepidation I ordered the Key Lime Pie (my hopes have been crushed too often in my life) but it turned out to be very good and baked by Mike himself (chef and owner of High Tides for almost 2 decades). Overall, excellent food and a very good value. I will just have to come back to test out their clam chowder. Oh the sacrifices one has to make sometimes.

We've been meaning to try this place out for a while and I'm glad to say we finally made it. It's a very small place that feels cozy and gives you a good view of the people walking up and down on Bond street. The food was fresh and very good. Service was a bit slow. All in all this place is definitely worth giving a try. Prices were about the same as you'll find at Anthony's - not cheap but do you really want to eat at a cheap seafood restaurant? We'll be back.

I always have a great meal and like it is never overpriced. Their green curry is the best.

I came here on a Valentine's "date" and had a pretty good evening. The wine selection was pretty decent and the menu is pretty streamlined with touches of Asian influences. Both of us ordered the wild salmon filet, which had a pretty hardy portion for the price. The filet may have been a touch overdone, but I have no complaints about the dish, otherwise. The salmon chowder appetizer was okay, though I think I should have stuck with my usual preference of clam chowder. The restaurant has very friendly service, but definitely make a reservation on a potentially busy evening. They're very strict about their table seating and you may miss out as a result.

Good clam chowder. The crab and shrimp casserole was disappointing and bland. Good restaurant for people that trend to like more mild and bland food.

Easily the best seafood in Bend. This is a very small place and so not many people have been here yet so I think of it as my little secret seafood restaurant. Everyone goes to the huge Anthony's seafood, which is 20 times the size of this place, but Anthony's sucks compared with this place. I've been there several times and am always blown away at how good the seafood is. The prices are a bit steep, but if you want quality seafood this should be your destination! One of my favorite restaurants in Bend!

I WILL NEVER GO HERE AGAIN! If you get the blonde thin(ish) waitress, RUN! She is rude, and just a nasty person. She will toss your bill down as you are taking first bites. She will NOT offer you dessert (as the previous poster said). And then DONT EVEN BOTHER telling the owner. She already knows about her server and truly doesnt give a damn. When I called to tell her what happened she didnt even offer some kind of perk to come back...have these people never heard about hospitality?!?

We arrived at 6:45 on a Friday evening with another couple. Had dinner, including appetizers. Although the appetizers didn't arrive at the same time and our soup course arrived before we were half way finished with the second appetizer, the food was all very good. My sticking point here is that we were brought our check by 7:45, not offered dessert or coffee. At 8:00 the waitress came back with a very pointed "Can I get you anything else?" And at 8:15, the house lights were turned up all the way. A very clear message to leave, even though their hours are posted on the front door that they're open until 9:00 on Fridays. We would have been happy to have dessert, coffee and maybe even after dinner drinks, had we not been chased out of the restaurant. We ended up walking around downtown and landing at another restaurant where we spent close to $50. We might consider this again for a quick dinner, but we surely won't choose High Tides for a leisurely dinner with friends. Bummer.

Best seafood in Bend! Not overpriced, includes salad or soup. Fantastic razor clams here. Ambiance not so great, bur service is prompt and friendly. Consistent quality.

Smoked salmon chowder is great with just enough salmon flavor to not overpower the rest of the soup. The clam chowder is some of the best I've ever had, and I've tried tons. For an entre, I had the Sculleys Platter, with sea scallops, prawns, oysters, and fin fish in a light sherry source. Scallops were cooked just right and the fish was tender yet not mushy. Good flavor all around, even if I could have used a little more sauce. Highly recommended for a cozy, casual, delicious dinner for two to four people.

My friends insisted we try this restaurant ( although it was 5 years since they ate there) as they had the best crab cakes of anywhere including Seattle. I was not impressed by anything. The salad was boring-mixed lettuce leaves, two cherry tomatoes, two raw onion rings and two slices of cucumber with a plastic cup of dressing. Hardly creative. The crab cakes were mushy and bland. My partner said they were the worst he had ever had, although he said his chowder was ok. The waitress was pleasant and we shared a complimentary slice of key lime pie which was good- light and tangy. Very disappointed -the whole place seemed slightly run down. We will not go back.

Really enjoy this little gem in Downtown Bend, the best seafood place I have found here yet. I absolutely go for the fish tacos at lunch time. Panko crusted halibut, served as a traditional taco with cabbage, and two really good corn tortillas. Two generous sized fish pieces accompanied by a very good basmati-like white rice and back beans. Recommend.

Great service! But the food was 50% poor. The salmon was great - black bean soup good (how can you ruin bean soup?). But the fried razor clams and crab cakes were very poor....super expensive for a mediocre meal. Disappointed.

Great food & great value. The ambience could be better, I must admit, but they make up for it with fast friendly service and fabulous food. I was just visiting Bend and would definitely return (though not for a romantic meal). Once past the awkward entry a friendly waitress seated us at our choice of table. I ate: House made basil ranch dressing on a fresh, crisp salad a delicious glass of wine for $6 (only $6!!!!), a generous serving of seared scallops (about double what most places serve, but at lower price) over pasta. I prefer a thicker sauce, but the flavor was delicate & pleasant, and the veggies were perfection. If you want a great meal at a good price, don't miss this place.

I was really looking forward to eating here again, as it was one of my favorite places to eat when I lived in Bend in the 90s. What a disappointment. The prices used to be reasonable, but are now too high. The food was bland, fish was dry. Nothing special here at all. The atmosphere was fine when it was a lower priced establishment, but for the current prices, it is also too casual, in my opinion. One of the overhead light fixtures had an ugly spiral bulb hanging down from it and was not lit. Weird layout and design with the glass doors. $38 is too much to spend for a mediocre meal and a glass of wine for one. Won't return.

Consistently serving the freshest seafood meals in Bend at the best value in an unpretentious and sparkling space with good service in the mix, we don't know why we don't think of this downtown located, locally owned "mom and pop shop" restaurant more often. But when visiting friends wanted to have a seafood meal at a location quiet enough to allow conversation, High Tides was at the top of our list. The meal was great yet the restaurant had few people in it while other places downtown were full. A puzzle we pondered. For people familiar with the Oregon Coast, High Tides in Bend was once the second restaurant for the people that also own Tidal Raves in Depoe Bay. Those owners sold the Bend restaurant to another couple a couple of years ago. The new owners kept in tact the menu and focus for fresh seafood in casual, classic preparations. In the sixteen years we've been eating at High Tides, the menu has remained relatively unchanged. That may explain why my husband and I don't think to eat here more often because the way we eat has changed quite a bit in that time. But for seafood standards, High Tides is hard to beat anywhere and for Bend, it is hands down better all around than either of the seafood house competitors of Anthony's (you are paying for mediocre food but a great setting on the river) or McGrath's (friends should not let friends eat there). Recommended. VIBE Casual with seating at booths lining both walls and a couple or three tables near the window in front that looks out onto Bond Street (and Deschutes Brewery Public House directly across). Since our last visit in, which has been almost two years ago we were surprised to realize, they've painted over the sea life murals on the walls to make them a tranquil solid blue gray. Music was country leaning rock (Bonnie Raitt maybe). The space seems to sparkle with clean windows and tables which is always a good thing. MENU / FOOD / VALUE Extensive fixed menu with a couple of daily specials offered at the table. Options range from salad and soup, most with fish or shellfish theme (like clam chowder or oyster bisque or cioppino) but vegetarian options too (as in a great black bean vegetarian soup), to smaller dishes (like fresh halibut tacos to oyster sandwiches) to full entrees (like halibut in green curry or mixed seafood platters or crab cakes or grilled shrimp). Many items are offered in full or half sizes (as in the fried oyster basket) and with diner's choice of being prepared in optional ways (as in fried or grilled fish for the tacos or deep fried or pan fried oysters). Most seafood is fresh and if it is frozen (as in razor clams at some times of year) they'll let you know that. Entrees come with a choice of soup or salad. Many dishes on the menu come with fries and coleslaw. Worth a moment of applause for the coleslaw here too. It is fresh made, served crispy and really cold and has a sweet / tart creamy dressing. As a side to pan fried oysters, it is just right. Prices range from around $5 for soup to $20ish at the high range for the most expensive entrees. A very good value for sure for fresh and well prepared seafood. Yesterday for four people for a meal that included coffee and iced tea and the following generously sized items, the bill was just under $60. *Grilled fresh halibut tacos served with black beans, pico de gallo and chipotle sauce *Fish and chips served with coleslaw *Mixed sauteed seafood platter in a light wine sauce (cup of soup included) *Half order spicy cornmeal crusted pan fried fresh oysters with coleslaw (hold the fries) Here's a tip: The Key Lime Pie on the dessert menu here is a winner! We were all too full in post holiday mode. Otherwise, it is well worth the calories! SPECIAL DIETS Menu is clearly marked for items that are vegetarian or that contain wheat or soy or dairy. LIBATIONS Wine and beer. Wine list is decent if not stellar. This may be one of the things that hurts this restaurant with Bend's increasing focus on places that are draws for alcohol that also serve food as opposed to places that serve food that happen to serve alcohol. There is a difference. Bend seems increasingly leaning to the alcohol focus, in particular in downtown restaurants, with multiple beers on tap, extensive wine lists and spendy cocktails. High Tides focus is on food. SERVICE Cordial, knowledgeable, efficient. Brava! THIS N THAT 1) PARKING: On street in downtown Bend can be challenging to find during lunch or dinner hours as the city with a downtown built with infrastructure to accommodate 30,000 people now attracts 2.5 Million tourists a year. There is a parking garage a couple of blocks away. 2) ACCESSIBILITY: Level in and throughout. Some standard table seating. 3) HOURS: Closed Sun. Sat dinner 5:30 - 9. Mon - Fri lunch 11:30 - 2:30 & dinner 5:30 - 9.

Had this for my two year anniversary a week ago.. Bee awhile since we had been in, but the food was still just as good as I remember.. Smoked Salmon Chowder - A + , Wine selection always good and very reasonably priced.. My fish was prepared perfectly ( I agree overdone fish ruins it) - but always remember if you don;t like it the first time send it back :) Owners stayed open late and allowed us to finish our wonderful meal and bottle of Pinot..

I've eaten here many a time. It seems it used to be hit and miss but as of late its been fantastic. I had the steak sandwich yesterday, which was cooked to perfection! The onions were tasty and the fries were the crispy, crunchy, delicious type. I don't even like fish and yet I still would recommend this restaurant. It is a well established restaurant with a clear fish theme, and good ambiance. Prices are slightly high, but on par with everything else in Bend. I eat here about three times a month.

On a cute street in Bend. Very local feeling. Hand high expectations for the seafood. The cioppino was good - the fish a little over done, but the soup flavor was fantastic. The steamers/clams were great. The other fish (salmon), meh... not the best - had better elsewhere. Service was great as was the wine.

Although small and less "atmospheric" than the newer trendy restaurants in Bend, High Tides has really fresh and innovative seafood. Love the thai style fish soup!
