Look up dive bar in the dictionary and you'll find the D n D. DnD HAS THESE THINGS YOU WOULD EXPECT FROM A DIVE BAR: Strong drinks Low lights Bloody Mary - hold the frills and wimpy salad on the rim Large variety of fried foods. Tackey lights on the ceiling Old furniture However, DnD HAS THESE THINGS YOU WOULD NOT EXPECT FROM A DIVE BAR: Great tasting Bloody Mary Service with a smile Good food (the D n D especial sandwich is awsome) Lots of flatscreen TVs (great place to catch a game) Clean bathroom

This place is a greazy dive. That being said, I like it! By night, it's a don't-look-the-wrong-person-in-the-eye type of local bar, serving stiff drinks and a you-may-get-your-ass-kicked atmosphere (which is why I can't give it higher than a three), but come morning it serves up some really tasty breakfast from a chipotle-infused eggs benny to some of the best hash I've had. Their servings are quite large too. I swear this place must never actually close it's doors. It keeps me coming back for more...there are televisions everywhere, so if you are into sports, you can see one from no matter where you're siting (this may be a draw or a hindrance, but just so you know). Bust out the flannel, your beat-up 501s and scuffed motorcycle boots, it's either going to be a long night or and early morning...maybe both.

This is the only bar that makes me think Bend is a real city. Im a temporary transplant from big cities. I I want to feel like I'm at home, this is the place I go to.

I have been going to the D for many years now. I will continue to come to this place everytime I am in Bend. Originally, it was for the Spicy Veggie Bloody Marys. These things are fantastic but you want to limit yourself to just two per visit. The vodka is made specially for the D and you can not buy it anyway but in a Mary. I also like going there because their breakfasts are served all day and the specials usually are special. The other morning I had the 'Salmon' Benedict. The usual 'muffin' was replaced with a Salmon pattie that had just a hint of spices. Quite unusual but very tasty. The best part of this is that there is no longer any smoking allowed even in the bar area! Yes, this is a complete dive, but the food, service, and cocktails are great!

This a very busy bar yet on a Friday night during Summerfest only two waitresses were working a packed floor. Can't believe this long time popular bar was this short sighted. To top it off one of the waitresses was new to the place. To her credit she was literally running from one table to another. Come on management get it together!

Ate here twice over my time in Bend for breakfast. Delicious each time! A couple of large TVs for the games too!

Massive portions, breakfast served all day every day, home fries, sweet potato fries, tater tots, and the best gravy in bend....and I don't even like gravy unless it comes from the loving hands of my 93-year-old granny. Great drunk food, or catch the game when they have drink specials! A Bend institution, great atmosphere!!

I came upon this place traveling through Oregon and I'm glad I found it. It seems everything in Bend closed at 9pm on weekdays. Luckily this place doesn't. I went in looking for a hamburger after hours of diving and boy did I find it. The Fat burger was just the thing with a fried egg and bacon and house sauce. I devoured it faster than I expected to it was so good. I paired it with beer battered fries that came with fry sauce. Both were good. I washed it down with a local brew, of which this place has plenty. Sure there's a slight divey feel to it, but I just might be beck in the morning because I noticed they have a breakfast menu ď

Visited this old time Bend landmark for the first time Friday night. Everything I've heard was true. Stiff drinks, great service and food. I tried the Friday special prime rib. It was very good and everything was piping hot. My wife thinks their hot wings are Bend's best chicken. Our waitress invited us back to try the best hangover breakfast. Not trendy, just an honest bar and grill. We'll be back.

A dive bar with funky service (good but not the traditional), awesome food, and good drinks.

I used to come here a lot when I lived in Bend several years ago, and I liked it then, but I was back last week and new the bartender was really rude to me. I asked what nice bourbon they had, and she just glared at me and walked away while gesturing over her shoulder to the wall of bottles. Since I couldn't see the bourbon I just panicked and ordered a screwdriver, which she gave me without saying one word. I don't know about other people, but generally when I go to a dive one of the main reasons is to chat with the bar tender/the good company. They usually make the crappy drinks and dirty setting worth it. But when you take a great bar tender out of the equation, you're just left with a place you want to get the hell out of as soon as you down your first drink.

I must say d & d could be a really cool place if some of their front of the house staff wasn't for lack of a better word so bitchy. Last Wednesday my girl and I headed over for a couple drinks and some tacos which were the special of the day. We ordered at the bar and then sat. This is when the problems started; the bartender we ordered with acted like such hot shit and condescendingly told us he couldn't make the drink that my girlfriend wanted. That would have been fine had we not been treated like garbage the rest of the time we were there. It was after we sat when our "server" Shannon came by to drop the food. She would literally ask a question at the table and walk away before she was done asking it. When I asked for a water as she was already walking away from the table she returned with a 4 oz glass of ice water! What a bitch. There is no other way to put it. We are both in the service industry and I don't think I've ever experienced that kind of rudeness from a server anywhere in the country. I will be back, but only because Butch cooks some damn good food. Front of the house staff is very disappointing.

The D&D has been around for a long time and if I'm in the mood for a steak, breakfast or just want to have a drink then The D is the place to go. The food is always good and the drinks are made just right. I try to go on Sundays when they have a Spaghetti special. Give em a try.... :)

If you are looking for an easy place that doesn't make you feel like consultants planned your entire experience with words like "evocative" and "front-door-appeal", this might be the place for you. Good people, no pretension, not really your standard Bond Street tourist attraction. Just a watering hole, with humans, lottery machines, and a bar that looks like people have used it.

    (4)
  • Bill N.

Damn good bloody mary. Not that sad watered down crap from down the street. Savannah is a goddess among waitresses, but don't f*** with her and try to play Keno. What are you, 80? FFS.

Usually love it. Sometimes have some issues, but just try to avoid going in at certain times. Well, actually, since I couldn't find a better way to put in a complaint, I'll have to do it here. The line cook for Saturday nights (Paul) is HORRIBLE. I've tried to give it multiple chances, just in case he was having an off night or something.. I've gone in for dinner, called in orders, and also had my husband come in to order and pick up food. Every single time that he's on shift, the food is horrible, he blatantly makes the order wrong, burns the food, takes too long... you name it, he can mess it up. His attitude is always awful snd he acts angry like he doesn't even want to be there. My husband came in tonight to get food for me, as I wasn't feeling well. Paul treated him rudely and snapped at him for sitting at the bar in front of the kitchen while waiting. Unacceptable. I don't think he should be cooking anyone's food. I've mentioned my distaste up front, and obviously nothing has been done. Maybe by putting this here, it will grab the attention of someone in charge who can either get this guy on-par or get him out of there. Once I'm able to go in and get good service AND food, regardless of when I'm hungry, then I will edit my review to reflect that good service and food. I'm very sad that I can't give the good review I'd like to be able to right now. I usually love the food and drinks, staff and service.

Just arriving in Bend and we stop a construction worker and asked "where's a local, non pretentious place that serves a good basic breakfast" The Double D is where he sent us. A good breakfast with nice down home service is just what we got.

I love the D (aka the Double D). It's a classic Dirty Dive -- strong drinks, greasy food, questionable clientele...... Been coming to and loving the D for YEARS for great drinks. So why the mere single star? In a word: Breakfast. I'm a vegetarian. Have been a vegetarian for nearly all my life. I do not eat meat. At all. Ever. I said this to the bartender when he took our order. He joked about how big the VEGETARIAN omelette was. So guess what? Our food arrived promptly and I dug in....and.... Yup, you guessed it -- I got a big 'ol bite of all things meat. The bartender was apologetic, saying that it was "his fault". ? After my comments about being vegetarian? Really? My friend half - joked that he should buy us a second round of Bloodies.... His comment back to her: "Oh, I don't think that would make up for it!" My corrected order came out fast, with fresh sides, and was just OK.... the cheese was not melted, nor was the spinach wilted at all -- obviously thrown together because they knew I was waiting while my friend ate. Ok, fine, so people screw up. No big deal, right? Except that generally in the service industry you do something to make it right, right? Nope. Our bill came with no discount or compensation -- no comped omelette or drinks. No second round of drinks. I'm NEVER one to ask for a discount, but my personal opinion is that if you screw up someone's food that badly, you should offer something in return. If that had happened I would not be writing this review and would be awaiting my next trip to Bend and the Double D. Instead I'll be across the street at Corey's.

Food = 5 Price = 5 Experience = 5 Classic place... every cool town has one. Maybe the interior is a little run down? Maybe it's meant to be that way? Strong drinks and good bartenders/servers... it's always a fun loud local joint.

  • Matt M.

Didn't have any food here, but after a long search for a non-yuppy and inviting place to have a drink or two in downtown bend we finally found it! The bartenders were all really friendly and made nice a stiff drink. Will be back next time I'm in town.

I prefer dive bars and this place fits my preference perfectly! If I lived in Bend, this would be a more regular place for me. The complete lake of pretentiousness is where I like to hang my hat. This place is perfect. The atmosphere is exactly what you would want, low lights and PBR. The menu is typical of what you would expect with one caveat, it isn't as 'greasy' as you would expect. The bartenders are friendly, they tend to pour a little more in your glass than you are expecting. It works for me! I really like the location in downtown Bend. If you are in the mood for a good drink and you are not looking for the highest class joint, this is your place.

Classic, longtime icon. Don't expect fancy prep with extravagant ingredients. This is old school. Solid, simple food with hella strong drinks. Breakfast time at the D = mandatory Bloody Mary. My only gripe is that they painted the ceiling and covered over the bullet holes.

I came to D & D after receiving horrible service at their neighboring bar, the Astro Lounge. Cheap, stiff drinks and friendly service is always an A+ in my book!

The drinks are SOOOOO STRONG here, and GREAT!!!! the bartenders are not the friendliest though, which is a disappointment because I always like talking to the bartenders. I have never had food here. I would definitely come back here to start drinking at and I would recommend this place, very local and chill atmosphere!

Are You kidding me? I ordered a shot of Whiskey, Not a Bucket! Best drinks in town.. This is the one place I can go and Get a good drink, Good Food and Friendly smiles. It gets crazy on Friday and Saturday Nights, but otherwise it's not to bad. I"ve heard it's actually the Oldest Bar in Bend also. The Staff is fun and friendly and if you sit at the Bar in the restaurant you can watch the cooks do their magic in such a tiny kitchen. I ordered Eggs Beni late night and it was amazingly good...The menu's are decorated with cute childrens drawings all over them too!

I am typically not a fan of the local "greasy spoon" (as my Dad lovingly refers to these restaurants), but D & D was hoppin' on the Fourth of July this year. We arrived (along with everyone else) after the parade in downtown Bend and snagged a table. The server/owner did a fantastic job juggling all the tables and managed to take our order after about a 20 minute wait. My California Breakfast plate was good and the helping was large enough I couldn't finish. Great place to rejuvenate after a hard night on the town, but not my first choice for a relaxing breakfast atmosphere.

One week ago, a buddy and I had the two for $19 10 oz steaks. Great. We wanted a repeat performance today and got horn swaggled. Server and cook were different, but that wasn't it. Server acknowledged my "2 for" request but never mentioned there wasn't that deal anymore. "Due to new owners." And the steak was horrid. It was waterlogged. I'm still thinking of it. I can't go back. Salad even sucked this time.

Shockingly, I had breakfast at the D and was pleasantly surprised. Fresh, not actually "greasy" and liked the skillet. Good value and decent, albeit everyday food. Great waitress too!

As out-of-towners, my husband and I try to get to the D & D every time we go to Bend. If you are looking for a divey bar that serves strong drinks and good food, this is the place. The bloody mary mix they use is fantastic and spicy. The portions are large and generally greasy, which makes sense for the kind of place it is. I have only had the chicken fried steak there because it is so good I can't seem to order anything else. The service is friendly but not obtrusive. The grill is immediately behind the bar and in plain sight of customers, and it is fun to watch them work. I have never been drunk on arrival there, but through a series of drinks became quite tipsy, and had no problems with the service. Just sayin'.

Awesome dive bar. Great happy hour specials. Awesome burgers, fries, and daily specials. Service was hit and miss. I came here twice. The first time the service was awesome. The second time the service was awful. They were two different girls. Except for that one horrible server, everyone else there was very nice. You could tell it is a locals joint. Awesome novelty condom and goofy sex stuff machine in the women's restroom. There are 12 different items that say different crazy stuff on them (one had a measuring tape on it another was a tiny book of the Kama Sutra) so we all pulled our quarters together and bought all 12 and had some good laughs at our table of 8. I would come here often if I lived in Bend. Very low-key. Pool tables in back. POOR selection of Tequila...but no big deal. Plenty of TVs for watching the game. Fun place to hang with friends.

Don't let the locals scary you and the place is old and run down but the food will make it up.

I'm reviewing the "grill" part of this establishment. Even if I did drink I doubt I'd do it here. Sure this place is a dive. It has flannel-backed vinyl tablecloths and there are people smoking in the back room. I wouldn't set foot in this place if the food wasn't so good.

So i come to this bar as the third one of the night on my 21st birthday. Granite i was a little "fuzzy around the edges" and probably a little red in the cheeks. I walk in and order a Yeager bomb and a vodka tonic. The waitress proceeded to tell me i was belligerent and she would not serve me. I said " hey its my 21st birthday this is only the 2ND bar Ive been to in the last hour"....okay okay i lied (but i was not even drunk yet let alone belligerent). So i asked why do you think i am being belligerent...and the bitch threw me out. Literally. What a snatch. So anyways if you go this bar make sure you are COMPLETELY sober or they don't want your money.
