While I love the power and grandeur of the ocean, I'm a lake girl at heart. Some of our favorite family trips are to find a high mountain lake for a day of fun in the sun. But, I have enough city girl in me that I also appreciate a lodge so you can get a nice meal. Cultus Lake was a great spot to visit. Not too far from the Sunriver Resort and along the scenic Cascade Lakes Highway. The restaurant itself is small with about 10 stools (wood stumps) against the counter and 10 tables. It was full when we arrived, but there is a gorgeous view of the lake from the back patio since you are up on a bluff. I'm surprised they don't expand and put additional outdoor seating there as well. But then again the service was slow, so the answer to that little problem isn't more tables. The menu is primarily specialty sandwiches and burgers. On Friday and Saturday nights, they offer all you can eat ribs. The food was all good, except for the coleslaw, which came as an option for the sides. I would recommend choosing something else. Prices were on the high side and a scoop of ice cream is $3.50. Fortunately they also had a freezer case of ice cream bars that started at $1.00. The owner was there that day and he seemed a bit gruff. The resort was just featured in the Bend Bulletin, so we could have hit it on an off day when they were busier than normal.

This is an awesome lakeside cafe. I'm glad that we were able to visit here. The food is normal cafe fare. There are alot of sandwiches, burgers, and such on the menu. Its not unexpected. The food quality itself was ok, nothing to rave about. The view is great. You are a little bit above the lake so you can see most of it. On a clear blue sky day, it is amazing. The lake itself is beautiful and scenic. You can take a canoe, kayak or paddle boat out and enjoy the environs. There are quite a few people here on a summer day....I can see why. It is worth the trip up Cascade Lakes Highway!

This evening my wife and I travelled to the resort to try their all you can eat pork ribs and my wife had the chicken. The cost of the ribs was $18, which is about average. It came with four ribs, initially, a small bowl of slaw, a small bowl of beans, and one very small corn muffin. The muffin and the beans were good and my wife enjoyed the chicken. The ribs were advertised as baked with special spices and then smoked over alder wood. I've eaten ribs all over the U.S. And in every case where ribs were smoked they had a smoke line. These ribs tasted as though they had been boiled, spiced and baked. They were basted after cooking with what tasted like bottled sauce. But hey definitely had no smoked ring nor even a hint of smokey flavor. Additionally, the slaw tasted as though it had no, or extremely little dressing of any kind, completely bland. I would strongly recommend that everyone avoid the ribs And slaw. To be fair, the resort's restaurant served good food the other times I have been there, and the various sandwiches have been very good. The staff is friendly and accommodating and it is in a great setting.

Upon entering the restaurant, we spotted an empty table and sat down. We wanted to have a milk shake before ordering lunch. The owner became extremely nasty and told us we had to leave the restaurant since we could not sit at a table for just a milkshake. She didn't even ask if we were going to be ordering anything else. We have been going there for over 35 years and have never had such a rude treatment before. What was surprising was that there was no one else waiting for a table, since there were empties. They've just lost a longtime customer, my wife and I would never go back to that place.

I would love to tell you about the food we experienced when my girlfriend and I stoped by for lunch, but we were unable to order. We were camping at the resort with our two dogs and the patio was crowded, so we decided to order to go. First, I was given a hard time for borrowing a menu, and was told several times not to steal it. When I came back in with my order I was greated with an exasperated, "what do you want, bro?" And then I was told that there would be no orders to go due to the kitchen being "slammed."

Did some fishing in the morning and decided to hit this place for breakfast. We experienced a great breakfast of chicken fried steak and they knocked it out of the park. The service was great and the food was outstanding. Where else in central Oregon can you get the ambience sitting lake side enjoy a great meal. Friday and Saturday evenings they have all you can eat ribs that are off the scale on flavor. "Smoked" give them a try. No disappointment
