I cannot believe I have not done a review here. Every time we are in Bend we go here for breakfast. It's amazing, my favorite! Food is amazing, the atmosphere is great. You have to try it! You cannot pass up this gem. Sweet potatoe fries with blue cheese!! Amazing biscuit and gravy! Back again today before head home! So yummy!

Fabulous local Bend breakfast and lunch eatery. Way cute old house with lots of outdoor seating. As others have pointed out, limited parking and wait times on nice weekends can be long. Dress for the weather and enjoy the free coffee and check out metal sculptures.

Came back...bad decision! I don't understand why we waited 1.5 hours when I saw lots of empty tables!!! I just don't get it! The poor hostess takes the beating when the kitchen gets backed up too. The restaurant was almost cleared out by the time we got seated. Wish they could figure out a better system. Finally when we got seated the waitress didn't know the menu either. Instead of confirming with someone else to answer my question, she just said she was new and didn't know if the potatoes offered had the spicy seasoning I had enjoyed once before or not. This on top of the long wait just added to our frustration. Also, $5 for a 2 piece side of bacon is ridiculous! They sell sauces that taste great too but for 15 bucks...really??? No buena! Talk about a mark up! On a good note, they had live music which was outstanding and the atmosphere is lovely.

We were in Bend around lunchtime before checking into our vacation rental in Sunriver, so I yelped a place to eat of course! This place came up and sounded good with vegetarian options for me. We found parking easily and walked up to a 30-40 minute wait... on a week day! Wow, busy. We decided to wait because we figured if we went somewhere else it would probably be around that long to get to eat elsewhere. It probably was about 30 minutes for a seat on the patio, which was super nice in the shade. We got the menu and I decided to order a vegan black bean soup with a side of sweet potatoes and brussels sprouts. I also got a pomegranate drink, which was a refreshing start to the meal. My husband ordered a burger and added a fried egg. The food took a bit to come out and by the time it did, we were starving and dug in. It was really delicious and filling. The black bean soup had a twist of lime and was so unique and flavorful! I loved it. The sweet potatoes were also delicious, though they had a greasy/oily appearance. I liked dipping them into the soup. And finally, the brussels sprout were also super good. My husband enjoyed his as well. Service was great throughout. We'd definitely visit again if vacationing in the area!

Looking at reviews and pictures for this place, I was just super giddy about coming here. The menu looked incredible, and I really expected to love Chow. I guess I just ordered the wrong things. After waiting about half an hour or so on a middle of the week afternoon, we were finally sat. I ordered a chilled cucumber lime mint soup and the huevos rancheros, the latter per Yelp's suggestions. The soup was terrible. I haven't had chilled soup in a long time, but was hoping to like this one... nope. As my girlfriend said, it tasted a bit like face wash. Definitely something I'd not have again. Thankfully, I wasn't charged for it. The huevos rancheros were okay, I guess. The yolk in the eggs was a little underdone though, and the flavor was a little "flat." The house made salsas made things a little better, but it couldn't quite save the dish. Just a disappointment. On the plus side, the biscuits and gravy here are excellent, so maybe I was just mislead and ordered the wrong thing. I'd try Chow again, but I'll be sure to steer clear of what I got on this visit.

We had a great brunch here while visiting Bend, and I will definitely return. I ordered the Caesar, and it was very flavorful. It was pretty heavy on the sauces though, so that's one thing to keep in mind. I upgraded for a fruit side, which was definitely worth it! It was fresh and delicious and not just an entire bowl of melon. The service here was incredible. Our coffees and waters were always full, which leads me to the main negative... the coffee. It's nice that they have some out for you while you wait, but it just is not very good. Next time I'll also skip the mimosa - expensive and not spectacular. I splurged since I was on vacation, but it wasn't really worth it. Otherwise, great space, wonderful service, tasty food.

Today my wife and I brought her parents to breakfast. We live in Bend and are used to friendly and excellent service at Chow - also we are quick to recommend Chow to others. Today was an exception. Our waiter, Mike, was rude and offensive through out the meal. Examples of poor service included berating my mother in law when she asked for soy milk for her coffee. Mike's response was "that's not going to do anything for the taste of coffee." We should have listened to instinct and left the restaurant as it just went down hill from there. When she ordered a side of potatoes for breakfast his response in a derogatory voice was, "is that it?" She is on a a medical diet and shouldn't need apologize for her dietary limitations. We were appalled at his condescending demeanor and arrogant body language. When I ordered Huevos Rancheros he instructed me to flip the menu over and pick a side. Other people working at the restaurant were terrific. The host was friendly and accommodating. The guy who brought out our food was enthusiastic and fun. The food was excellent. Needless to say we apologized profusely to my wife's parents regarding Mike's service. Had this been our first time we would have never returned. **because Mike was so rude we left no tip; however when we got our visa statement the bill was charged an extra $6.00 to include a tip! he entered in HIS own tip - BEWARE!!!...

Great place for breakfast in Bend! We came here based off of a list of the Top Ten Restaurants in Bend that I found on Pinterest. The staff was very friendly! There was a 30 min wait on a Friday morning but it wasn't bad because they had a musician outside to entertain everyone. We were asked if we wanted to sit inside or outside. We said whichever one would be faster. It was a beautiful day in Bend so why wouldn't we want to sit outside right? Well, when they sat us outside we were sat under this beautiful tree that rained these little bugs all over us and our table. We had bugs that fell into my coffee, in my hair and I was still finding them on me when we left the restaurant. Now, I know that this is not their fault so I will not punish them in their star rating for that. My tip for Yelpers would be to sit inside or at least not under the trees. Unless you don't mind little ladybug babies in your coffee! Despite the bugs, the food was amazing and they had plenty of options. The coffee was good too and when you check in on Yelp you get TWO free coffees! Great place!

For anyone visiting or living in Bend this is a restaurant that you will not want to pass up. It has some of the most unique dishes with specialties being there eggs Benedict. I have eaten many eggs Benedict in my lifetime and by far these are some of the most creative and light ones that I've ever experienced. The sauce is not heavy but compliments the food. Their house potatoes are to die for and they offer three different kinds of specialty sauce is made in house that accentuate the flavors. Chow is a delight in an experience and sometimes offers live music that sets the mood perfectly. The waitstaff is very personable and ready to take any type of order. I would recommend this to anybody who would like "the band experience "

Horrible service, 15-30 minute wait turned into an hour only to find our name had been crossed off. Sever forgot one one the beverages. One half cup of hot water was brought, the server claimed that was all that was available. Wrong item came to the table, the correct item showed up after the rest of us had completed our meals. Never did the staff apologize. Chow used to be our go to when we had out of town guests. This is the third time in a year we have experienced this. Shame on me for returning after the first time.

Found this unique place a couple years ago and now we make a pilgrimage every time we are in town. The location is a small house so there can be a wait in the winter but it's well worth it! it's full of funky art and great vibe. The chefs are so creative and dedicated to quality, freshness and complex flavor. There are even cocktails made of a locally made alcohol.

My boyfriend and I were in Oregon for a road trip and happened to come across this cute little restaurant for brunch. We weren't expecting much, but we got a really great treat! The restaurant was pretty packed and it was pretty loud and a little warm inside, but that wasn't really a problem for us. We noticed that there was also an outdoor section for people with dogs! (: The food was really delicious, my boyfriend ordered the Blackstone and I had the Shrimp Benedict (a daily special). Both dishes were pretty spectacular and although it was a lot of food on the plates, we still felt healthy with all the vegetables they incorporated!!

Visited here while in town to see family. We arrived around 9:30am on a Sunday and only waited a few minutes. We chose to sit on the patio and it was lovely. Inside was warmer and crowded but still nice. Jennifer, our waitress was amazing. We also got to meet the owner, Sean. Both were helpful, kind and engaging. Jennifer was honest about the menu, and answered all of our questions about the food and drink appropriately. Our table ordered the Blackstone, Corn beef hash, special Pork Benedict, buttermilk and pumpkin ginger pancakes. Literally, everything was perfect, properly cooked and absolutely delicious. Served hot and in a timely manner. Before the eating extravaganza, we each enjoyed coffee or a bloody mary, mimosa or vodka Kombucha/mint/blueberry drink. The live music -- cellist and guitarist couple -- started right before we left and was lovely. Would definitely go back and take people with me.

Took over an hour for us to get our food. My sisters bun was moldy. Food was ok. I heard really good things about chow and had high expectations that were crushed :(

Tied up our bikes outside, put in our names, and waited. For quite a while, actually--I'd guess close to an hour. Reasonably, though. The hostess was happy to help us get drinks while we waited on the front lawn of what felt like an opened up house. There were deck chairs and benches out front. When we were seated, we were placed at a long "vintage" wooden table on the patio. There were plenty of options for morning alcoholic drinks--mimosas, bloody marys and the like. I had some exotic juice--guava, I think. My wife had a smoothie, which she quite liked. I ordered the Caesar, which was a bit like huevos rancheros on polenta with a mole sauce. It was very, very good. This was definitely the best meal we had while in Bend. I'd recommend it to anyone who would splurge on quality brunch/breakfast food. I wish the wait had been shorter, but the staff did everything they could to make our wait pleasant and worthwhile.

  • Brooke A.

Chow is fantastic! This was my first time and they did not disappoint from all the great reviews! The wait is definitely worth it. The free coffee during the wait, the amazing and tentative staff all made this experience top-notch. The owner was even walking around making sure everyone was happy. We split the ginger pumpkin spiced pancakes and the biscuits and gravy -- both delicious! I had an orange - pineapple mimosa. They have multiple juices to choose from for their mimosas and you can mix! Will definitely be returning.

Wonderful patio atmosphere, awesome garlic bloody marys, delish food! The Samson rocked! Crab cake on house bread topped with a poached egg with a terrific hollandaise sauce. Sweet potato fries were a great side. Jennifer was a great server as well as helping us decide where to go in the couple of hours we were there to explore. Very dog friendly, too. I would def tell all my friends to try this place!

  • Emma A.

This was honestly one of the best breakfast/brunch I've had in Oregon. Probably the best actually, give credit where due etc. I ordered the Samson - Crab Cake on House Bread, Poached Eggs, Sauce Choron. As a side I got the regular potatoes. It literally makes me sad when I think back to this meal because I probably won't be able to get back to Bend again, and I would give anything to eat more of their food. Service was also quick, attentive and friendly. They move fast and we felt a little rushed, but it's such a popular place (and we were there on a Saturday morning) so it's understandable. The giant delicious Manmosa made up for it anyhow! Tip: don't leave when you put your name down at the door. Grab a drink and hang around. We were told the wait would be an hour but it was really only 30 minutes.

Ciao to Chow!! Great food and drinks...however doesn't discount the painful wait. If you have a lot of time to waste --eat here!! From arriving to put my name on list for a 2-top to paying my bill--2 hours (eating took all of 20 minutes). Wait is hideously long and makes me never want to return. Was originally quoted 35 minutes to wait but it ended up being an hour. I hoped they were just understaffed today but after reading multiple yelp reviews---restaurant doesn't care to turn tables faster. This is a pattern that is repeated at Chow. More people through is more money and happier customers--I overheard dozens of customers complain about the wait. You have been warned.

Must eat brunch here if you are in Bend. Expect a wait but well worth it. Great drinks recommend a Bloody Mary and a Mimosa in a quart jar of course! The corned Beef Hash was Amazing. Kid friendly... ;) sustainable farm to table the even grow veggies on property!!!

Holy wait time, Batman! This morning I expected a wait, seeing as we were going to brunch on a Saturday to one of Bend's seemingly most popular restaurants after Halloween night - but what was reported to us as 45 minutes around 11pm, suddenly turned into 1 hour & 20 minutes. Please, if you're having a longer wait than expected, let the customers know! We were clearly passed over as a party of 2 for larger parties that were added to the host's list after us. Again, if you're going to give preference to larger parties in regards to seating - let your customers know. We got really h'angry, really fast. Once we were seated, the fare came quickly. Unfortunately after ordering, we overheard specials that hadn't been listed off for us - they sounded delicious. My coffee took a few rounds to show up and overall, I got one refill (as they dropped off the check). The food was good enough - pumpkin pancake was delicious, roasted sweet potatoes were the best part of my breakfast but unfortunately, the biscuits & gravy fell flat. If you love B&G like me and my friend, you'll be wishing for a real biscuit, warm rather than cold gravy, and some spice & flavor that lacked overall in the dish. I'm sad we spent such a long time waiting for a brunch that was "just meh".

Yummy vegan breakfast! We came here on a Wednesday morning-ish, brunch time, and it was packed. I believe we waited for about 45 minutes, which we were told would be the case. One of the servers was kind enough to offer us coffee and I got a black tea. Very good. Service was great. I asked for the vegan menu and planned to order the Heuvos Rancheros. When it came I saw that it had eggs and was embarrassed at having to send it back. Our waitress said she did not remember me saying the vegan one. Oops. Not sure if I did or not because on the menu it didn't add "vegan" to the dish name. I may have assumed it was always vegan. Either way she was kind enough to take it back and get me a new one. It was really good too. I enjoyed the sweet potatoes and their homemade hot sauces are great. The habanero one is actually really spicy! I would come again, but next time I'll make sure to say VEGAN when ordering. ;)

Not impressed, heard good things about this place and have had better food and service at food carts, food quality was so so, service was non existent, we were seated promptly, ordered and that was the last we seen of our waiter, waters were empty and I watched our waiter walk past 6 times and not stop once all while stopping at tables near us. Maybe an off day but I'll place my bets elsewhere.

Fresh, creative, and oh so good. They have fantastic breakfast available all day. You can always find something decadently sweet, but I always go for the meatier options. The pulled pork huevos rancheros is fantastic - check the specials menu! I would also recommend the rice bowl - the fried tofu is fantastic. Try it dressed with their homemade hot sauce.

Cute place, friendly staff, good food. That pretty much sums it up! There was a 25 min wait for seating, but I got a cup of coffee while I waited. The menu is fresh and offered both breakfast and lunch. I had the Vinny and tried the melon soup. Both were delicious! The hubby had biscuits and gravy, and the gravy was tasty, although the biscuits were a little overcooked. Overall, we enjoyed it and would come back!

Wonderfully prepared dishes, fresh, quality and unequaled. Everything we ordered was very good. I think it is a must visit for out-of-town visitors. Three in-house hot sauces all are excellent. 1000 miles from repulsive Egg McMuffin.

A good restaurant. Not sure it was worth the 45-minute wait, but decent food. The gluten free pumpkin pancakes were pretty dense, and for $9 I wish they would have given us real maple syrup, not the fake stuff. My husband said his biscuits and gravy were very good. The live music was a little too loud for our taste. Overall pretty good.

While in Bend for Brewfest, my wife found Chow on Yelp. She's doesn't use it much, so I was excited to see what she discovered. We arrived with a 45 minute wait. We agreed that we had nothing else to do for the time being, and that we would have a few drinks and wait for a seat. They have a small bar on the outside of the house where they whip up some OUTSTANDING drinks. I've been losing faith in Bloody Mary's lately....Chow has restored my faith. Talk about a flavorful, well thought out drink. Not only that, but I had a Kentucky Blue (Sorry if that was the incorrect name), but it was a mixed drink that had blueberries and bourbon. It was so, so good. We had a great, personable waitress who took care of us. She recommended a few different dishes per our request as well as drinks. She did a great job. Some of the best service we had while in Bend. On to the good part....The Food! We decided to get two different things since we couldn't make up our minds. I went with a Eggs Benedict with Smoked Brisket, topped in a Bleu Cheese Hollandaise. Holy Hell, such a Flavorful, well presented, wonderful dish. Each flavor stood out on it's own. Initially I could taste the bleu cheese hollandaise, but then the flavor of the BBQ came through, with the simple finish of yolk from the poached eggs. This was the special for the day, and I was more than happy with my selection. My wife ordered what I orginally wanted, the Chicken Fried Steak. I've had LOTS of Chicken Fried Steaks in my time, and this was HANDS DOWN the best I've encountered. Tender, flavorful, and also topped with a bleu cheese finish and carmelized onions. We really couldn't get over the fact of how fresh, and well pronounced the flavors were. It was absolutely brilliant! They have a crazy wait, for a damn good reason. Everyone knows what they'll be getting when eating at Chow. We will certainly be eating here every time we visit Bend from here on out.

This place is next level. I got a Cubano, because I watched Chef and have literally been craving one for months. I couldn't even handle it. Perfect pickles, sweet braised pork and nice and salty ham. Manmosas and great coffee. Could a man ask for a better meal? The service was spot on. We're talking fast. Full house, busy, we had 3 plates and must have waited 8 minutes. Tabbed out quick and it was all over. I have no regrets. Seating is limited so come later or earlier than the 10 am crowd. Sit outside around a firepit while you wait. Enjoy.

Two things you need to know: There is a long wait on the weekends, be prepared. And it's a little pricey, but it's Bend. When you are seated, you're greeted with amazing customer service. They make sure your needs are met and they don't bug you. The food was so damn good! I shared a plate with a friend and was so incredibly satisfied. So if you don't have a huge appetite and don't want anything heavy, that is a great way to go. If you just want to drink your breakfast, get a Bloody Mary!

After looking at their website, I expected a decent menu. The menu was limited and most of the meals I saw on their website were Not on the menu. DO NOT order the French Toast!! It was Dry & Tasteless!!! No amount of butter nor berry spread could help it. I was VERY disappointed!! The place was Very Noisy.. And the restaurant did Not look as nice as their website pictures. On a positive note, my husband ordered the corn beef hash & eggs, it was dry as well. We will NOT return.

I wanted to update my dining experience this morning. Today, sadly to say was a let down. But before I get into that I have to say the food again was excellent. I don't know if all their Benedict's come with bread instead of muffin at the bottom, but today I noticed it and honestly this is the first time I've ever had bread used as a base for an eggs Benedict. Anyway today I ordered the Vinny which is your traditional eggs Benedict with a side of Dave's bagel. Both items were excellent and the eggs were perfectly poached. I rave about the food quality here. It's excellent and consistent which is why I come here at least once for breakfast when I come to Bend. Okay now for the service. Today my experience has left me less to be desired. I can't remember the last time I had so many missed details of service than what I had today. Anyway, today I came as a single diner since my best friend fell ill the day before. It was a little after 8 am and I was pleased there was no wait. Plenty of empty seats around and I was promptly seated. My hostess, a thin blond lady, offered me a seat against the window with the sunlight beaming across my face. Needless to say it was hot, and I wondered there were multiple shaded tables why didn't she seat me at one of those? Everyone else around me were all escorted to shaded tables. Anyway I just took what I was given since I knew breakfast shouldn't take too long. Or so I thought. I ordered the Vinny and Dave's bagel with cream cheese. They promptly gave me my OJ and shortly after my warm toasted bagel. I finished my bagel in about 10 minutes. Another 15-20 minutes pass then my waitress brings me the check. Huh??! I informed her did you get my entree? A look of confusion set on her face and she said, "I wondered if that's all you wanted." I told her I ordered the Vinny as well. She got my order but by then, it's starting to get hot at the table. It's starting to feel like My face is starting to get sun burned, I mean that light was beaming right on. My and the glass work that they have hanging from the windows may have magnified the intensity making things worse. Anyway if you wondered if that's all, why didn't you confirm anything? If something appears fishy, it probably is so again missed details. So it takes about another 15-20 minutes to get my entrée and this African American young waiter comes by with my food. Just drops it off, doesn't ask if their was anything else I can get for you...nothing but a gin on his face. I saw one of the waiters across from me giving his customers a series of hot sauces before their food came. I'm a fan of hot sauces, but none was brought to me nor offered. Again, lack of attention to service detail. I went on to eat my breakfast without it which was still excellent. No one came back to check in. The next time I saw either of them was 15 minutes AFTER my food was finished. This is absolutely not the way you handle service. I am happy to say that the vast majority of folks around me appeared to be getting excellent service so the bottom line is that there was significant service inconsistencies. I don't know if it's the fact that I was a single diner or not, but my dining experience today really fell short of my expectations. I've dined at many fine restaurants so I have a firm grasp of what constitutes service excellence and what sets places apart is attention to the details. It is not just making excellent food and serving it, but service excellence is in the attitude and attention to every aspect of the service experience, meaning every crucial interaction between a waiter or waitress and their customer that can make a good experience into an unforgettable experience. This was my second dining experience here, both times there were some service issues. Obviously a step back from last time. They say three times a charm...will my third dining experience be the perfect service? We'll soon find out.

While visiting Bend over memorial weekend my boyfriend and I went to Chow as our last stop before heading home. I was very excited because of the option that they offered a gluten-free vegan menu (vey hard to find anything like that). While walking in we noticed it was pretty busy and went to put in our name to the tall brunette hostess that instantly seemed annoyed with us being there. She never smiled or even gave us a friendly greeting. There was about a thirty minute wait so we waited outside in the garden area because there was nowhere else to wait with it being busy. About 20 minutes went by and I went to check where we were at on the list and then the hostess (while using a rude tone) informed me that she called out our name and now we would have to wait again! So we waited another 15 minutes and made sure to be right by the door. Was very irritated at this point but we finally got seated and then things turned around. Our waitress was a very sweet blonde lady and she was awesome! Even though it was busy she was very kind and our food was amazing! We loved everything about it other than the horrible first impression. It's unfortunate that you're made to feel bad about coming to a business. Food is amazing!! Waitress rocked!! Hostess was horrible!

Amazing. From out of town and just stopped in for the day. I got the vinny and it was amazeballs. Im not a big hollindase sauce guy so I had it on the side and doused my meal with the homemade hot sauces including the carrot/habanero sauce and it was incredible. I didnt care for the coffee and the wait is long, but totally worth it! A must eat place. Oh, and the coffee was free so that too is amazing now!!

Yumola! Outdoor seating, great atmosphere. Good, friendly service. The pumpkin pancakes were amazing (I had them add the bananas, so glad I did). Hubby had a huevos rancheros and was in heaven. They make their own hot sauces. Do not miss this place!

Pros: Food was fresh and delicious. Hollandaise sauce went very well with poached egg and veggies. Hot sauces were diverse and delicious with the food. Green tea was good as well. Cons: Sweet potato fries are a little too soft and my mom was given eggs over easy instead of over hard (no liquid yolk). Would recommend to friends and family just for the eggs, sauces, and fresh veggies.

What a beautiful day to be eating at Chow. Well we all know that the food is way over the top, especially my favorite Pumpkin Pancakes and the Locavore Scramble. Also the updated cups, awesome and the really great T-shirts all the folks are wearing. Thanks for being in Bend

Charming atmosphere, knowledgeable servers, innovative menu. I ordered the crab cake on bread. Although tasty, it did not stand out. This dish cried out for a better base. Even though nicely cooked, the poached eggs weren't hot. For 14.00, it wasn't a good value. My husband had the chicken fried steak with eggs and a generous helping of blue cheese, but it was quite tough, and had increased in price from their online menu prices (note: almost all current prices are more). I hate to give such a negative review, but Chow's fell short, both in their food and pricing. We don't plan to return.

We found this place on a whim and it was easily one of our favorite meals while staying in Bend on our recent trip. We came for breakfast in the middle of the week in February. From the moment we walked in, all four of us in our party fell in love with this place. We couldn't stop looking at all of the fun artwork on the walls. The restaurant itself is in a super cute house that has been refurbished to accommodate diners. All four of us had a Bloody Mary. Two had the jalapeño Bloody Marys and the other two had the roasted garlic Bloody Marys. They were so good and loaded with pickled veggies. At 9 bucks a piece, these could easily be a meal in a mason jar. The food was amazing. Lots of healthy, locally grown breakfast and lunch options. There was even a special vegan and gluten-free menu. Perfect for us because we had a vegan in our party. She's the one who picked this place!! Everything we ordered was delicious. The service was super friendly. The vibe was just right. I got the feeling we were the only tourists in the place, but no one treated us any differently. We got great food with outstanding service. Chow is now on our Must Eat At When in Bend, Oregon list. I can't wait to go back and introduce this place to a friend of mine who is gluten-free!!

This is the second time I've been here and it was just as good as the first. I had the pulled pork eggs Benedict and it was incredible. I thought the apples and blue cheese wouldn't go well, but they definitely did. The poached eggs were absolutely perfect, and they had great housemade hot sauces to go with it. I got the Chow Bloody Mary to go with it and it was the perfect pairing.

Lovely outside patio, good service and drinks, but the food is what I enjoyed the most. I had the special scramble and my boyfriend the crab cake house hash. Everything was perfectly seasoned and prepared. I'm already looking forward to coming back and trying more!

This was our second visit to Chow and it was great again! A great take on breakfast away from your standard fare. You pay a little more but it is completely worth it. I had the Ala Med and French toast and cleaned both plates. My wife had the pulled pork Benedict and it was delicious as well. Great place to try if you are looking for something a little different.

One of the best sausage gravies I have ever had. The biscuit was good, but a dense crispy crust type biscuit when I like mine more light and fluffy. The roasted potatoes were a disappointment. The Bloody Mary was not! We didn't have too long of a wait mid week and they had live music to enjoy with a self service coffee urn.

"Have a beautiful day today." More than just a thank you, but a heartfelt, gracious good bye. And that was just the end of the experience! The wait was long, about 45 minutes, but that was offset with a cozy firepit and complimentary, hot coffee. Once we were brought inside, it was as if we hadn't waited at all. The staff appeared to be honestly happy that we were there. The server explained drink options and talked about the specials. We made our choices, after much deliberation, and eagerly awaited our breakfast. The gluten free pancakes were awesome! The country gravy and the jalapeño-cilantro sauce were to die for!! If you're looking for an incredible breakfast and incredible and sincere service - but don't mind a wait - this is THE place for you!

Whenever I go to Bend, Chow MUST be on the itinerary. This breakfast spot is off the hook. There is often a wait on the weekends, but on a nice day you can wait in their outdoor seating area / yard, which is just delightful (and you can order a drink at their partially outdoor bar while you wait). Drinks: Their bloody mary's are crafted with care and come with all the fixings - pickled goodies, chicken wings, meatballs, etc. The coffee is bottomless and delicious. Food: The Benedict plates are to die for - especially the crab cake Benedict and the pork belly Benedict. I tried their omelets too and was equally as impressed. Their french toast and pancakes are insanely good but very filling, so they are perfect to share. My friend ordered the crab cake sandwich and said it was awesome! The staff is friendly and the ambiance is cozy. This place simply rocks! It's a little on the pricey side for Bend but WORTH IT

Beautiful. Tons of outdoor seating, lots of servers and just the kind of strange, local-food that you expect from somewhere in Oregon. Have an Eggs Benedict and try all the sauces. French Toast wasn't worth it.

By far hands down best breakfast in Bend. This is gourmet breakfast served in laid back Bend style. It's in a beautiful old house with a firepit out front that has seating for people waiting. Really nice quirky decorations. The menu has diversity, staples, and twists on classics also. Can't say enough about how much I love this place for breakfast and/or brunch.

Great food, fresh ingredients and a lovely setting. This is the brunch spot to be at in Bend. There was not a thing on the menu our group had that wasn't exceptional!

Came here for the second time this morning for breakfast, again phenomenal!!!! I had the shrimp Benedict, my husband had a pulled pork Benedict...both to die for! The bloody Mary with jalapeno infused vodka delicious! Guava Mamosa something to write home about. Waiting to get their Valentine's Day menu, then will probably make my reservations. There's always a bit of a wait, but worth it. They have free coffee & bonfire to wait by

Super cool ambiance/art and coffee mugs! Loved the atmosphere. My dish was alright, not super and not bad. Mediocre is a word that comes to mind. I ordered 'the local' which is basically eggs, potatoes, bread and sausage option. The eggs were great (hard to screw up over easy eggs) but the potatoes tasted like they had been sitting in the skillet for a few hours--too salty and too tough. Bread was hard and bland. I had the vegetarian sausage option and it was over cooked and over salted. Our waitress was great, the service was excellent.

Charming little place, great food & friendly service. Definitely a local feel to it. The staffs were super nice and attentive. Although there are no reservations, we called in on our way to leave our name. Wait was maybe 10 minutes when we arrive 1pm on a Sunday. We didn't mind because the outdoor fire pit was really cozy! Food was delicious! I love their in house sauces. I also noticed the garden in the front yard walking in and will definitely be back during the summer.

Let's get the bad part out of the way - we were in Bend for the first time, on a mini-vacation, and we called ahead to see what the wait was. They said 20 minutes, so we headed on down (5 minutes from where we were staying), and ended up waiting another 40 minutes or so. Not a big deal in my mind, as I thought 20 minutes for a Saturday morning for a popular breakfast spot for a mid-sized group seemed optimistic at best, but some members of our party of 6 and an infant were miffed. In any case, this is a converted house - front yard is nice and green, and there was a fire pit with chairs around it and plenty of folks seated around it, waiting, enjoying both the sun and the fire. I went into the little patio in the front, where they've got the bar set up, and got myself a solid bloody (house infused spicy vodka). The interior was crammed full of tables and chairs, and there was definitely some dancing around to make it to our table and to our seats. While I don't know Bend well, the place struck me as stereotypical Bend. Lots of outdoorsy granola-ish folks in high end outdoor wear, a few hippie-ish folks, etc, all crammed into this converted house with eclectic, mismatched furniture, and local art on the walls, inspired by the Lebowski and 80s tennis stars. Food wise, I ordered the chicken fried steak with the red bean gravy, local eggs, and polenta. The portion was perfect - not the gigantic, diner style, but right sized. Mid-20s me might have complained the portion was too small, but for 30 something me, it was a good fit. Texture was perfect, and the red bean gravy was a nice change from the standard country style. Egg and polenta rounded out the plate nicely. They've got a rad collection of house hot sauces - a bright orange carrot habanero, a nice smoky ancho chile, and a light jalapeno cilantro. That carrot hab was interesting, and really packed a kick, but too spicy for me. The ancho was perfect for my tastes. Service was solid. A bit hard to communicate at times due to the small space and volume of everyone in there, but I had no complaints. some folks from our party wanted separate checks and didn't mention it till the end of the meal, and our server took care of it with no issues. I felt guilty as we probably ended up taking the table for another 5 minutes as he had to go and split the checks, but nothing in our servers demeanor suggested he was frazzled with a bunch of tourists. Rad space, and if I lived in Bend, I could easily see this being part of my regular rotation . . . .

First time at this place and overall, I'd say I was unimpressed. It's got a cool vibe, but the food itself wasn't good. I got a special, with ingredients like tomatoes and mushrooms and things that usually taste just fine together.. But when I started eating, it just tasted off. I also found it weird that the description of the meal didn't say anything about eggs, and it turned out to be an omelette! Nothing wrong with an omelette, There was just no indication that that's what I was getting. The wait staff was friendly, and asked us if we wanted to sit at the bar.... Don't sit at the bar! The bar is a tiny room that they crammed stools into, and everyone waiting to be seated congregates in there. Meanwhile, you bump elbows with others trying to eat and get nudged in the back by customers wanting a drink. The bartender was super nice.. She forgot to make my husband his drink, and when he reminded her a while later, she didn't charge him for it. I had high hopes for this place, but I doubt I'll be going back.

I will always remember this restaurant as being my favorite in Bend. I love everything about it-the outdoor and open seating with plants and flowers and grass everywhere (okay this is coming from a Vegas girl, I really appreciated the beautiful scenery outdoors to enjoy), the live music playing while you wait for a seat, the service and the every employee we encountered, the garden on the side of the restaurant, the local food used, I can go on and on. This was my favorite part of going to Bend. If I lived in this city, I can see myself being a regular here. My husband and I had: The Caesar - Two Eggs, Corn Cake, Avocado, Roasted Green Chili Sauce, Hollandaise Sauce, Queso Fresco - 12$ The Sampson - Poached Eggs, Crab Cakes, Sauce Choron - 14$ A bit pricey, but oh so good and worth every penny. I especially loved the homemade salsas on the table-cilantro jalapeño, ancho chili, and carrot jalapeño. Loved the sweet potatoes-best ever!!! Our waitress would serve us and then other people would come around and ask how things are, which was different. I am not sure if this is part of their friendly service or if they are just helping each other out, but it was nice to know people cared enough to ask if we were okay or needed anything. I asked a waitress for a drink recommendation since everyone seemed to be drinking (is that the thing to do in Oregon? I kept seeing Bloody Mary's on the menu everywhere we went). The waitress recommended a drink and it was just right. I do have to say my husband ordered the Arnold Palmer. Not only was it not good (watered down and bland), but we didn't know if it had a refill since she never offered one. There was about a 20 minute wait on a Sunday. It didn't bother me since we had entertainment. if you want a farm to table meal, this is the place to go.

Good food. Gluten freeoptions. Places to sit outside and they even gave our puppy water. They get busy and they hustle. No complaints here, we have been here a few times and have tried many new things. I don't give it 5 stars bc its not my favorite but definitely a go to place

Ok place, but definitely overrated. $5 for 2 mediocre pieces of a la carte bacon!? $2.50 up charge to avoid eating nasty Mrs Butterworth's fake maple syrup!? (Yes, this alleged "local food bastion" has Mrs B's as their "house syrup.") I also found it odd that they took time to list which local food providers that they use but then list Santa Cruz CA-founded and now ***Coca Cola owned*** Odwalla juice as one of their "local food" vendors. Again, not a bad breakfast... just a bit over-priced and full of themselves (ie- perfect for Bend's "pseudo-yoga-hippie" upper-middle class yuppies).

Stopped in here on the last day of our weekend trip to Bend. We had to wait over an hour before being seated. This was largely due to the fact that we had 10 people. The interior of the restaurant is small so it's not optimal for groups larger than 4-5. I would recommend splitting into smaller groups to be seated faster. They have picnic tables outside, but they were not in use due to the colder weather. On the positive side, they offered free coffee for those that were waiting outside. They also have a small bar adjacent to the restaurant where you can order drinks, the bloody mary was very good. The food was great. Delicious and good portions. I had the Caesar with polenta and left extremely pleased. The server proactively split up our checks and was extremely courteous. Well worth the wait.

This is an awesome dining experience! The host and waitstaff are invested in your meal and care that it lives up to the stellar reputation of Chow! It's a smaller establishment with an hour long wait at 10:30 in the morning on a Tuesday - but the host set our expectations and allowed for call-in reservations. They had a fire going outside with chairs for those of us that had to wait. When the customers sitting in our soon-to-be table were paying, our host searched us out to tell us it wouldn't be much longer. The food was amazing; portions were just right, temperature and preparations were perfect. They create their own sauces and they complemented our food so well. Very fresh and very awesome! The servers frequented the table refilling our coffee and water and clearing when necessary! Will definitely frequent here every time we are in Bend!

Chow's food is incredible. Always great flavors and fun options, although we try to get here early early on the weekend to avoid the wait. My one bit sore spot with Chow is the time that my fiance and I were each talked into the special benedicts by the server. To be fair, they were incredible. However, the bill was not. Brunch (with no booze) should not cost $50 for two people. I'm never ordering any special again because I don't want that surprise to happen.

We ate at Chow during a previous visit to Bend, and the food and service were great!! But.....we're back for a visit, and showed up there on Friday morning at about 8:00; all the outside tables were set up, silverware, glassware, pictures of water, etc. Since it's summertime, and we're from the west side of the mountains, we appreciate any opportunity we get for outdoor dining. There were 2 employees outside, and we asked if we could go ahead and eat at an outdoor table. We were told "No, we don't have enough servers". So we left. Would have been better, in our minds, to give us the option, with the warning that it may take longer, etc. Seems very inconsistent to have the area all set up for service, but then refuse to let customers eat there. May seem like a small issue, but to us, it was a big disappointment, since we'd been looking forward to it. The story has a happy ending.....we found some other amazing places to eat in Bend where we can enjoy the great weather and eat outdoors (even at 6:00 am!!!), and we'll probably go back to Chow sometime again.

The food and atmosphere are worthy of five stars, but the experience was otherwise frustrating enough to lower my score. We were given an estimated 45 minute wait, and checked for updates once we got near that window, all of which continued to be completely inaccurate. We finally ended up getting seated over an hour and a half after putting our names on the list. Once seated, most of us ended up being unable to order what we'd planned (and spent 1.5 hours dreaming about) since they were out of crab. It's pretty unfortunate when a good chunk of their menu (the sampson, the crispy crab sandwich, and the crab hash) all use that ingredient. Everything we DID order, however, was phenomenal. We tried the pulled pork benedict, the caesar, the beef hash, and the roasted garlic bloody marys. Everything was flavorful and delicious, with the perfect balance of textures and sauces. I would highly recommend the pulled pork benedict in particular. I've never had roasted garlic in a bloody mary, and I was pleasantly surprised with the savory flavor combination. I will probably give this place another chance at some point - they could easily earn back a couple stars if they work on the wait time issue and keeping their food in stock.

We loved this restaurant! Visited here the last morning of our week vacation in Bend. Wanted a great breakfast before taking the long drive home; we got that and more. We were seated immediately at 7:30AM (thank you Yelpers for that tip). The cook staff is very professional, table service was excellent, and the manager (?) very attentive to everyone's experience. There's a lot of dog friendly outdoor seating with lots of shade. My wife had pancakes and coffee, I had The Blackstone with a jalapeno infused Bloody Mary. Loved it all!!! Pancakes were fluffy and the syrup delicious. I highly recommend The Blackstone for the tasty tomatoes, excellent bacon, organic poached eggs and delicious sauce. Excellent, get there early though!!!

Attended this restaurant today--would rate it about a three but my guests felt it was a four so four it is--majority rules. Personally I believe that it is a little pricey. $13 for two eggs and a very limited serving of corned beef hash. The corned beef was presented in an interesting cylindrical shape--but very minimal corned beef in the center, surrounded by loads and loads of fried potatoes. Egg on top--nice presentation but for $13 "where's the beef?" House Chardonnay at $11. Enjoyed excellent service, food was very good for what there was of it (although guests servings were adequate) but prices are attendant to what one would expect being seated along the Deschutes in the Old Mill area, not in a funky (albeit cute) little cafe on Newport.

Cozy breakfast place with delicious food! Fresh hot coffee right when we sat down. Worst part of our meal was having to pick just one thing off the menu. I chose Huevos Rancheros and my husband got their country fried steak! Both were equally delicious! Our starchy sides were also great...sweet potato spears for me and Jalepeno cheddar polenta for him! And house made sauces were delicious. Wish we lived in town so we could try other stuff. It'll have to wait until next time we are in town!

Wow. What a mixed bag. I like that this is a truly local joint. I LOVE that the owner and its staff embrace the Bend concept of organic, local food with attention to detail. When I arrived, I was pleased with the pleasant outside garden, which I understand is used to harvest many of the herbs used in the various dishes. My waiter, though, seemed to be a little...mmm...."self-medicated." He attempted to serve me before the people next to me, who were seated first. I suggest he get their order first, but then didn't see him for another ten minutes or so. When he did arrive, I ordered the chicken fried steak (created from beef from a local rancher), and requested a side of buttermilk biscuit instead of the potatoes. He was very accommodating, in his lax kind of way. When my food arrived, I had a small portion of chicken fried steak,a biscuit that was more...mm....corn-bread like than buttermilk, and eggs over-easy. Yolks so soft it flooded my plate with yellow. I didn't specify, but he didn't ask how I wanted my eggs. Way over-easy seems an odd default choice, but okay.... The steak was incredibly good though. Very well seasoned, nicely breaded, and very flavourful. The biscuit wasn't what I expected, or even...really wanted, but was quite good nonetheless. My waiter stopped by and made his pleasantries, but then a (I believe) manager stopped to ask how things were. I said, "Pretty good. I mean, good." She queried, "Only pretty good?" I mentioned that the eggs were not how I preferred them, but since I never specified, I wasn't really complaining. She asked how I liked them, then said, "I'm sure you were never really asked how you wanted them." Ten minutes later, I had a couple of fried eggs in front of me. My waiter came by, checked on me, and apologized as well. My refills were kind of slow in coming...and the food was exquisite, but there wasn't very much of it. It's hard to tell what I Think of CHOW....I enjoyed the food, but I was kind of eager to leave. I kind of what to go back again and see how everything is. I wish them success...I just wish I wasn't, like, supposed to be honoured by their attention to me.

What happens when you combine Locavore, and house potatoes with caramelized onions with a spice that kicks butt and an incredibly cool server with a great personality?! You get a strumptrulescent meal! Thanks Chow!!!

Jammed little spot. Five min wait. Serve lunch and breakfast all day. French toast is an amazing appetizer. Huevos Rancheros are AMAZING! Each table gets three large bottles of hot sauce: mild medium or habanero super hot made with carrots. From those whom tasted the habanero you will burn your mouth. Unlimited coffee refill. Water is waiting in your glass on the table waiting for you - no ice - interesting. Loved this experience. Everything is local. Great staff.

This place came highly recommended for breakfast and by the size of the wait I was looking forward to it. I checked out the menu and there were amazing dishes and I thought I was in for a great breakfast. I will wait a long time for great food, maybe a little longer for great breakfast food. We waited an hour and 45 minutes for this place. I ordered the smoked salmon hash and multigrain pancakes. My wife had the poached egg with a polenta cake. By the time the food got to us we had been waiting over 2 and half hours. The coffee was terrible. The drip was bitter even when it was fresh. My dish was rather bland. The smoke salmon flavor was pretty weak. The pancakes were cold and hard when they got to us. They probably could have been good if they were hot. I would have sent them back, but based on the slow lackadaisical service, I would never have eaten. My wife's dish was good too. The polenta cake was crispy on the outside and creamy in the middle. Both our dishes came with perfectly poached eggs on top. I think CHOW makes good food, but if you see a line don't bother because it is not worth any wait.

The decor and house-like atmosphere were very reminiscent of Word of Mouth in Salem. On our walk to the front door we noticed the large, shaded, outdoor seating area which really looked tempting. We would have opted for this if it weren't for my allergy to sunlight. We settled for a little inside table overlooking the herb garden. I loved the artisan type food, my husband however, did not. My fresh berry compote French toast with custard was wonderful and filling. I had no complaints. My husband's chicken fried steak was reported to be oddly flavored because of the oils used, which put him off from the whole experience. The service was pretty good, the only confusion arising when I wanted to alert the waitress to our free coffees before the check was rung. (Ours was not familiar with Yelp or the deal and had to find someone that was.) Bonus: at the time of Yelp check-in they had an offer for two free coffees. This was awesome.

Review # 1,100 - Happily saved for CHOW in Bend, OR We arrived in Bend at midnight on a Thursday, and woke up Friday morning (5/23) ready for our first experience in Oregon. Our friend Cameron suggested Chow, since it's his favorite place. We had a group of 5 adults and two dogs, and arrived to find there was a wait, even though it was a Friday morning and not a weekend. After the short wait we were seated on the patio in the corner, perfect for the big dogs to be able to lay behind us. I went excited for breakfast but the lunchtime Crispy Crab Sandwich ($12) caught my eye and I had to have it. Also on our table were my husband's biscuits and gravy ($9), the Benedict special ($18) ,burger special ($12), Sampson ($14) and a salmon bagel ($6). Hot chocolate ($3.50 - the only item that I thought was ridiculously priced), a house infused bloody mary ($9) and 3 crater lake bloody marys ($8 ea). We have no idea why one of the Bloody Marys was more expensive, or which one it was. Our service was great through the entire meal (Brittany was our server but lots of other staff came and checked on us too); most impressive was the food. I loved every plate on the table. Yes, I took bites off of everyone's plate! It was all fresh tasting and crispy and well-cooked. My crab sandwich was a large portion and the crab was delicious. The potatoes served with the Samson were crisped and browned and perfectly seasoned. The gravy was creamy and the Hollandaise was light. The bloody marys were really good too with pickled veggies on top and inside. I'd definitely recommend this place to anyone visiting Bend. I really wanted to return while we were there, but also wanted to keep trying new places. Can't wait for my next trip to visit our friends and eat here again. ($109.50) total for breakfast

Above average service, food and atmosphere. I had the Huevos Rancheros which were good but not amazing. The 3 hot sauce options were tasty. I particularly liked the carrot habanero which had great flavor and really packed some heat. After seeing other patrons food, I would like to try more items on the menu. My next visit will have to wait even though I live only 20 steps from their back door. It's tough for some to spend almost $20 after tip for coffee & Huevos. Overall, I thought it was good and I would go back again, it was just a bit over priced for what you get.

My husband and I were visiting my dad for the weekend, and decided to stop for breakfast on our way home. We were very happy with our decision to stop here! My husband got eggs, potatoes and toast- the potatoes were crisp and delicious, and the bread is fresh and homemade! I got the Caesar- a sweet corncake topped with perfectly poached eggs, creamy hollandaise sauce, queso fresco and a side of sweet potatoes. SO incredible, I finished it almost immediately! Everything tastes fresh, and was cooked to perfection. We'll be back next time we come to Bend!

Fifteen minute wait on Labor Day around 1:30 pm, but expect to wait longer most of the time, because they are very popular. I believe they close at 2 pm. Excellent large sized Bloody Mary, but know that it's very spicy. Service was good. Excellent menu with unique items. Food was good from the soup of the day to fresh salads to the crab cakes. Outside seating in great weather gave it an extra star. Pricing was high for lunch ($27 each with drinks and tip), but so was the quality. It would be moderately priced, if it was the same food for dinner. Too bad they are not open for dinner.

Went back to Chow! Sparrow bakery is closed on Mondays. and one of my friends wouldn't go to Corey's. And we decided the Victorian is too expensive and not that good anymore. We took our chances with Chow...again...as I always do. Whew! The service was good. First time ever, maybe second. Food was pretty good too. Everything was good but maybe just a little bland for what it could have been. Eggs ala Med-poached eggs on crispy polenta topped with spinach and roasted pepper hollandaise. and a side of vegan gravy to dip my potatoes in. The hollandaise didn't taste like much...until I doused some Cholula on it. The vegan gravy was swimming with onions. It wasn't very good. I got a blast of salt when I ate the spinach-ahh! Whatever. I was hungover. It served its purpose. And it was much better than usual. And I am happy Chow finally has hired a good server. Thank you blond haired tan girl.

Went to Chow for breakfast a few days ago with a group. There were 8 of us so we had to wait about a half an hour for a table on a Tuesday but it was definitely worth the wait. They use fresh local produce and bakery items. Many options were sampled by our group and no one was disappointed. No boring old breakfast entrees here! They made every dish as if it was their signature dish. I had the corn meal crusted tomatoes and the bagel with smoked salmon and pickled veggies...AMAZING! The french toast with bananas and maple syrup were delicious if you want something sweeter, The multi grain toast that came with the eggs and bacon was to die for, especially with the fresh berry jam. Another favorite was the Reuben sandwich with sweet potato fries. I have never been a huge fan of sweet potato fries until I tasted these! OMG! So wonderful - tender, sweet and slightly chewy on the edges. I look forward to visiting Chow again!!

It's very hard to get a 5 out of me for breakfast food. From the beginning we knew we came to a good place. The hostess was very nice and genuine, the coffee-while-you-wait was a perfect idea, and waiting in the chairs on the lawn under perfect conditions put us in a great mood before reaching our table. Now to the food. All of their ingredients let you know that you're not eating processed foods that aren't worth the plates they sit on. They are whole foods and vegetables grown right there in their own garden. I had the scramble (a special for the day) with goat sausage, vegetables, and pepperjack cheese. I appreciate the effort and originality but I just wasn't crazy about the dish. I ordered french toast instead of a side because I was just in the mood. It was as good as I've had, but I'll honestly say that I'm not much of a 'french toast' kind of guy. Overall, I'd rate the food as a 3, but the environment bumped it up. did I mention live music?

After a long trip from California and one night in Bend, we headed to Chow before we drove home to Portland. I'm so glad we stopped! We shared the smoked salmon hash and the huevos rancheros. AWESOME! Everything tasted fresh and unique. The portions were just right. We also shared a Bloody Mary. Best Bloody Mary we've ever had. No joke. The coffee was another thing that tasted perfect ... just perfect. Oh, yes, the orange juice was fresh-squeezed too. Ahh ... this place is close to perfect ... if not perfect. Lots of seating. Pretty garden to look at. Great experience!

Came here for breakfast on our way through Bend--so glad we did. It was delicious. I had the Huevos Rancheros; two eggs, tortillas, ancho sauce, black beans, green chile sauce, and queso fresco with a side of house potatoes. It was all nice and hot--and wonderful comfort food. The person I was with had The Local (two eggs, sausage, toast, potatoes, and a side of crispy fried tomatoes)--yum. The coffee was good, and they had ample outdoor seating and live music. The only thing I would have liked is a little less attention from the staff (yes, you understood me right)--we had to have been asked at least half a dozen times how our food was and if everything was good...BY four different people! Just assign that to one and leave the client to reach out to you if they need something else (IMHO). It was also pretty entertaining watching waitstaff come close to colliding while they were coming around a blind corner outside. They really need to develop either a better system or purchase a mirror so they can see who's coming. Really entertaining otherwise ;) For more pictures from my experience check this: thespicybee.com/2013/07/…

What an "EH" experience. I ordered a bloody Mary. It was okay. Without asking, they automatically went for the pricier one. Someone else ordered one, got the less expensive one, but was charged for the expensive one. I got a Mimosa. Was charged $10, then discovered they use Cooks champagne. Are you kidding me? I could buy a few bottles of cooks for that price! It sucks paying top dollar for cheap booze. Small portions. The biscuits and gravy were dry. Had to try to gum it down--it just stuck to the roof of my mouth. Not exactly worth the. 1+ hour wait.

Bacon French Toast- two pieces of French toast, it was shaped like bagels dipped in an egg/milk mixture but tasted like regular French toast. The poached eggs were pretty good, but the lime hollandaise sauce was INCREDIBLE I never had anything like it, I normally don't like hollandaise but this had a lime flavor with zest of lime throughout the sauce. I dipped my toast in the house made raspberry preserves also poured lots of good syrup on my thick slabs of delicious bacon (which was cooked perfectly crispy without a lot of oil). This place had a great variety and great prices with a nice ambience!

Outstanding breakfast. All local ingredients, worked masterfully into creative, but familiar, dishes. Even the most basic option-- eggs, bacon and toast--came out looking like a work of art. The service was top notch. Can't wait to come back.

We loved our Chow experience and can't wait to go back! I have only had their breakfast so far. I tried something amazing... it was like eggs benedict meets french toast! YUM! The service was mediocre and I wouldn't say this is a great place to bring the kiddos! We did though, oops!

I was so excited to try this place only to be let down by the bland though attractive food and cocktails. The place is in a good location and very cute. One big suggestion.... Assign the waitresses tables!! It was nothing but constant confusion from the moment we walked in. We had at least three different waitresses coming to our table intermittently to take our drink and food orders. On top of that the waitress that appeared to be our "main" gal - though very perky and 'nice' - barely listened to a word we said even when she was the one asking the questions! I wouldn't write this place off but they seriously need to get their act together and make the food/drink all taste as good as it looks.

Ohhhh Chow, how I love thee... Lee recommended this place to us for lunch before we had to meet her later that day... so Drew and I rolled in after days of hiking and climbing, haven't showered in days, and was immediately greeted by the barmaid who made up special yummy drinks. I had a mango lemonade, and Drew got this herby alcoholic number. When we were seated 10 minuted later, we served by the best, zennest waitress in the world. The food was stupendously wonderful... even the grilled cheese sandwhich was to die for, and much of the ingridients come straight from the organic garden grown onsite. Soooooo cool. The patrons are super wonderful and chill... a big melting pot of people from different walk of life. Other climbers offered local tips as if we were old friends. The chef, who is also a uber climber, came out to meet us and offered his apartment to shower and clean up... super sweet, but we didn't take him up on it 'cause it's kinda weird if he wasn't gonna be there. Everyone knows everyone else, but they immediately incoporated us into the fold. This place is run like how I think utopia would be run. If I can pick up and move to Bend, i would, just to eat here every day. Really wish they open for dinner, but it's definitely one of the best places to eat in the world.

Loved this place. Had one of the best omelettes ever. Love the home-made salsas, too. And the service, music, and outdoor seating were all great. My favorite breakfast place in Bend.

Nice place with lots of outside seating. Great service and nice variety on the menu. I saw their bloody Mary's and wanted one but was driving to Eugene so I skipped it. Next time for sure!

First of all, where in the hell can you go where they *juice* the vegetables for your bloody mary and top off the awesomeness with a blue cheese and bacon stuffed green olive and house pickled veggies? WTF? It should be illegal for a drink to taste this good. Now onto the food: OMG. The G man got a vegan surprise -- you can tel them if you want it sweet/savor/spicy/mild and they will send out a plate of goodness to your table. It.Was.So.Good. I had huevos rancheros sub tofu for eggs. The tofu was amazing as was the house-made ranchero sauce used to top-off the dish. We went back for lunch a few days later and everything was as yummy as day 1. If you're in Bend. Grab some Chow.

We've been to chow many times and every time is wonderful. It is the best place in bend for breakfast. We've gone to other places and are always sad we didn't go to chow instead. The eggs blackstone is to die for. I could eat it every day.

Chow has some unusual but tasty breakfast meals that I have come to enjoy a great deal. My wife and I love to sit outside and enjoy ourselves people watching as we await our meal. I don't often order off the menu as I prefer to explore their daily specials instead. Their great food and drinks coupled with their onsite garden keep us coming back for more!

Great atmosphere. Love the outdoor dining option. Occasional live music. Food is local, healthy, and mostly organic and DELISH! Waiting area is very limited and really only bad thing i can say about this place.

Fantastic breakfast. Even the breakfast potatoes are amazing. Full of local organic flair which always earns points for me. The place is a bit on the small side, and the waiting area is mostly outside, so come early, or bundle up.

All right, let's cut to the chase- (Victorian Cafe fans, stop reading right now). Chow is definitely better than Victorian Cafe in all aspects, but it just missed the mark of 4 stars as soon as I took my first bite. I think being able to drink coffee as we wait for our table is awesome. The waiting area outside is beautiful--- there are flowers, lawn chairs, green grass with no grass bugs!, sunflowers (I love sunflowers!), oh-- did I mention, they grow their own vegetables right in their backyard, & serve with the dishes? How cool is that? We were seated outside in a nice, cool shade under the trees. Next to our table was a small stage with an acoustic guitarist & a cellist playing songs for our entertainment. Pretty cool, if you ask me. Our server was friendly & helpful. I had a million annoying questions about the menu & she answered them with enthusiasm and without any trace of impatience. I ordered 2 poached eggs, 2 slices of avocado, bits of alfalfa sprouts over corn cake with hollandaise sauce, & a side of fried tomatoes. My boyfriend ordered the special- eggs, spinach, pepperjack cheese & sausage scramble with a side of french toast. The presentation of the dishes were amazing, but I wasn't impressed with the taste. I thought corn cakes were lacking in flavor, & avocado didn't help much with that department. Alfalfa sprouts saved the dish a little bit, but there weren't much sprouts on the plate, so once I ate it all, the dish fell back into the ditch. The 2 poached eggs probably made the dish worse. The scramble was decent, though. My boyfriend suggested Feta cheese would've been better instead of the Pepperjack & I agreed. Although I was dissatisfied with my breakfast choices, I would come to Chow over Victorian Cafe any day. The ambiance, service, and the decor/entertainments of the restaurant are excellent enough for me to come back & enjoy it all again. Hopefully I'll order something different next time, & I'll enjoy my food as well.

On my final day of my Bend vacation, I decided to try to find a great breakfast joint, and low and behold... I found it! It's a small little house, done up very nicely, fairly large. Nice artwork and layout that is really well used. I ordered the bloody mary with their house infused pepper vodka. The top of the drink was layed out with pickled vegetables, unlike the typical olive/celery garnish. It was very attractive, and was so good. My entree was the chicken fried steak and eggs. It was breaded with a cornmeal crust, and topped with caramelized onions, bleu cheese crumbles, and chorizo gravy. Unbelievable! The portion size was ideal, I wanted to devour it all, but didn't quite make it to the end. Next time, I will for sure!

Hot hippie chicks serving wholesome delicious fare..needless to say, my husband loved it!!! :) It's an awesome place, with very pleasant outdoor seating, and they even plant some of their veges. I had the greatest eggs and potatoes (see pic), hubs had fluffy, delicious pancakes. They also made a great sangria with fruit. Naturally, he wanted to go back the very next day...

Chow is phenomenal!!! This is our favorite brunch spot, after having sampled near everywhere else in town over the years. (For example, another former favorite, the Victorian Cafe', just can't compare with Chow's originality, freshness, local-consciousness and service.) We can't review many of the dishes, 'cause we're in love with our favorites: Eggs al la Med and the Local. They are both so amazing we just can't stand to deviate...boring as that may sound. For the former: crispy corn cake, poached eggs, spinach sauteed in garlic and lemon, topped with delicious hollandaise sauce and three choices of house-made hot sauces--To Live For!!! And my hubby says that the Local is the Zen of perfect breakfast in its perfectly done simplicity--eggs any way you like, country potatoes, thick and crispy bacon and toast, or either of two types of biscuite (he likes the bacon thyme variation, topped with house-made berry jam). Besides the incredible food, the staff is remarkable. The place was packed today, as usual, with hopeful customers lining up out the front door and blocking both the kitchen and work stations, yet the staff was smiling, patient and maintaining senses of humor. Today we were fortunate enough to chat up the two owners, David and Shawn, both of whom work in the restaurant daily. They were humble, friendly and solicitous of our happiness and food satisfaction. Both even took the time out to talk awhile, despite the busy-ness of the day. The service is really extraordinary at this lovely spot, and that despite the fact that they could just rest on the laurels of the fabulous food. Bend isn't known for its caring and knowledgeable servers, being a vacation town and all. So finding this gem that is delivering premier quality food, ambiance (interesting art, charming home-y environment, healthy plants trailing along the walls), AND exceptional service to its appreciative fans is quite a treat. Check it out--you won't be sorry!

Yum-yum Gimme Some! This is my favorite breakfast joint in town. My favorite regular menu item is the Lime Bacon French Toast with a poached egg and hollandaise sauce; such a tasty, surprise. Very consistent flavors and excellent service. The owner is often seen on the floor serving customers while keeping a low profile. Nice. Always good specials too. My only complaint is that the last time I was there I ordered the standard corned beef hash, which was good but didn't blow my mind like the first time I had it several months ago... maybe that's because I was so splendidly surprised by a classic dish done so well the first I tried it. Don't know, but the added hot sauces gave it the kick it needed. Thanks for a great experience consistently.

Loved it! We were visiting Bend for the first time and looking for breakfast/brunch. We were decidedly looking for a 'Bend experience'. We found it at Chow! It's a cozy little place that looks more like a home than a restaurant. Not sure if there is seating inside or not but it was pleasant enough sitting out in the shade around our table. The wait staff was professional and the food was fantastic. My wife had a 'farmers omelet' (not sure if that's what it was called or no but you get the gist). I had eggs Benedict over a slice if pork belly. Both came with the best home fried potatoes I have ever eaten. Additionally their Bloody Mary was fantastic. We really need a place like Chow nearer my home!! Frankly, I can't say enough good things about this place. Eat there. For sure!!

This is one of the rare times I gotta disagree with most people and their yelp reviews. We went here yesterday (Monday) on a recomendation from a local. The place was busy but there was no line and they said they would get us a place right away. 15 min or so later we were finally seated. Our waitress was very strange she did things that were just a little off like gazing out to the street while asking us questions and asking us the strangest things. The coffee was good and the food was so so....a bit on the bland side for me. They do make their own hot sauces though....which also were pretty much on the bland side as well. Don't really think I'd need to go back here. Or if I did it would be just for coffee but I dont need to wait 15 min for coffee.

Food was so amazing and was packed with flavor! This place has a mom and pop feel and the customer service is superb. Our waiter, Mike, had the best personality and made the experience more enjoyable. I would definitely recommend this place and can't wait to come back.

New favorite place to eat when I go to Bend. The servers were great, the food was great, the atmosphere was great. My friend basically asked the waiter to decide for him and was not disappointed. I ordered the Blackstone and added a side of polenta. Delish.

I don't give too many 5 stars but it was really good. Great, friendly service and wow food with an excellent menu. Plus, a pretty darn outstanding (and spicy) Bloody Mary. And, mimosas with a choice of juice mixers (pineapple - guava was excellent!). This is a must-eat place in Bend, OR. They have managed to rise above the many other great establishments in this awesome little town.

The food is absolutely delicious! The atmosphere is good, tight squeeze inside though. Unfortunately the staff seems overwhelmed and tired of their job. The chef does a great job though, so as long as you are willing to wait and do not expect too much from the wait staff you are good to go. Tons of vegetarian options and the specials are always good!

Really cute place. It was the Friday after the 4 th of July. I think they were not prepared for the amount of people. The food was not very warm but really feel it would have been good under normal circumstances. They appear to grow a lot of their own vegetables and use local ingredients. Forgot to post

The hostess forgot to put our group of 7 in the book, two hours later they invited us to sit separately indoors and tie our dogs up alone in the outdoor seating. We left. I still haven't tried their food, wait times are long and they don't handle groups of more than 2 very well.

Everything here is perfectly perfect. The roasted garlic Bloody Mary, the shrimp Benedict on the crispy jalapeño polenta, the perfectly poached eggs, the crispy and rich Brussel sprouts...all amazing. My girlfriend had the pulled pork Benedict. It's was amazing from the blue cheese down to the crispy toast on the bottom. The service was friendly and prompt. Plus they have a dog friendly patio. They brought my dog water and a treat. This place is truly A+. Also noted: they have all local ingredients. This place is a gem.

This was one of my breakfast restaurants. Twice in three days I was highly disappointed. On the first day I ordered the French toast which was dry and had no taste. On my second visit I ordered blueberry pancakes because I saw several people eating them and they looked delicious. When mine came out the blueberries were on top and not mixed in. I asked my waitress about this and she said "oh I noticed that, I think they are doing something new for Independence Day". Sadly, I'm not buying it (due to the fact everyone else's had blueberries mixed in) and I would have accepted that there was a mistake made had she given any other answer.

Oh, Chow. Whenever I visit Bend I make sure to find my way to you. You've surprised me with your breakfast tomatoes, and thrilled me with your Bloody Mary. Your scrambles demand affection and your potatoes are fried to golden brown perfection. And the fact that your patio is dog friendly makes you even sexier than you already are. I adore you, Chow. I really do. In fact, if I lived in Bend, I would ask you to go steady with me. And it's my hope you would say yes, as it's only with you that life feels complete. I love you, Chow.

Free coffee, they have a garden in which they grow most of their own organic ingredients AND they make everything right down to the butter. The waitress apologized that the eggs weren't farm fresh - but not to worry, they're still fresh, local, organic and free range. And my breakfast was under $10 Wtf this place is unreal!

Some of the best breakfast in town paired with some of the worst service. Food= 5 Star Service equals 1 Star. So 3 stars it is. But seriously good food! I will continue to deal with long waits and poor service to eat here.

We are from Reno, NV and live off Yelp when we are on the road. This is by far one of my favorite places for breakfast. We will be back and totally worth the wait.

  • Leah C.

We are out of Towners and this was our first visit to Chow. You're going to wait for a table here...most people or groups were waiting for about 45-60 minutes. There's a coffee stand but they don't tell you that you will have $3 tacked onto your tab which was a not so good surprise. My tip for that is to go to the coffee shop down the block and get something worth $3 to take in with you or to enjoy for your wait... Anywho the food. I ordered the Caesar and my goodness are the rojo and verde sauces scrumptious! Not spicy but had a good warmth. The hubs ordered the chicken fried steak. It was good and the blue cheese on top was an awesome addition.

Yes, the wait is long even when its in the middle of winter for Brunch, but the food was definitely worth it. They even got a gluten-free menu for my friend, and everything was delicious. I got the polenta benedict's and my friend got her sweet potatoes hashed. Not only the dishes came out gourmet style, but it was definitely 4 stars quality. The service was attentive and knowledgable even when it was crowded. I definitely will be back the next time I'm in Bend.

Delicious brunch and/or lunch in a cozy, westside setting. Food is fresh and amazing. Loved the huevos rancheros, the potatoes, and the house-made hot sauces available (try the habanero--incredible!). Attention to trimming ham for a restaurant of this caliber and/or price is the only reason I am not giving 5 stars. Watching someone tend to the kitchen garden in the rain was a treat as well :)

Snuck in a coupe weeks ago on a Saturday, 15 minute wait with the outside seating closed. Inside was fairly small but went well with the overall feel. Very casual - who wants a stuffy breakfast anyway? Service was on point, drink refills were quick and our server was friendly without being overbearing or fake. Hot drinks are served in hand made mugs to tie in with the very homey feel. Inspired food made with local, fresh ingredients. I had the chicken fried steak - caramelized onions, blue cheese and a side of cornmeal crusted tomatoes. Eggs came perfectly poached, steak was well seasoned with just enough of breading to notice. My girlfriend had the Benedict and was raving about for the rest of the day. I'm impressed with Chow and definitely will stop again on my next adventure in Bend.

Every time I go here there's a wait. I go here every time I'm in Bend. It's worth it every time This place serves up the best brunch in Bend (say that three times fast and a guy in a snowboarding jacket will appear and tell you why he loves living in Bend and leaving the hustle-and-bustle of Portland behind). And, it's easily in the top 5 best brunch places in the STATE. (the others are: Screendoor, Brodor, Tin Shed, and Word Of Mouth Neighborhood Bistro) Everything here tastes like it's made from scratch (because it is) and the wait staff are very friendly and accommodating. Protip: make sure you know what the specials are before you settle on a menu item, don't make that rookie mistake. The waits are long but you have easy access to coffee and morning alcohol drinks (it's ok if it has fruit juice in it!) The (corn?)-dusted tomatoes are unique (never heard of them before or since going here) and delicious, highly recommend getting them as your side. They also have house-made hot sauces that are EXCELLENT. Seriously, if you see anything that looks Mexican-influenced on the menu, GET IT.

We were only in bend for 2 days but we made sure to hit some of the best "yelp" spots. We went to chow and we both got breakfast off the specials menu. I got the scramble with sweet potato side, and my husband got the monte cristo. Both were delicious! A little on the smaller side, but we were not hungry when we left so it was perfect! Great little spot! Good atmosphere and friendly service!

I really enjoyed the food at Chow. It is fairly pricey though. $12 for some French toast is a little over priced for me. My friend got the fried oyster Benedict. It was really good and the side of potatoes were great as well. They also have great home made hot sauces. The French toast that I got, had fruit and vanilla custard. It was delicious. The wait time was a little too long and it also took awhile to get the food. I honesty will be coming back because I really did enjoy their food. Top notch and it`s a cute place to relax and enjoy some brunch.

Best breakfast joint in Bend! This ain't no greasy spoon. These folks have pride and integrity and it shows in their food and in their service. You might have to wait for a table because of the word of mouth reputation, but just relax, wait and enjoy. My favorite items on the menu are usually the specials... Farmers scramble never disapoints, any of the benedict varieties, and the soup is almost always to die for. If you are a local, you eat at Chow, period.

I was contemplating giving this place 5 stars because I really love it so much and I go here as much as I can, but each time there is something that goes wrong. Time before last I had to wait 20 minutes after sitting to get my drink order in. The busboy kept coming up and realizing my girlfriend and I hadn't been helped yet and kept asking a server but the place was really busy. Then the server came up and sincerely apologized. They really did care, which was nice. Then we ordered some more drinks and it took forever to get them, but they were delicious. Short review: On the weekends, you can expect to wait to get a table and for your server to respond, that being said, the drinks and food are amazing!!!!! it is pretty expensive though. I had the Special Benedict which was incredible but it was $18 and there wasn't a price anywhere until I saw the check. I'll still come here each time I come to Bend though.

So this is a gourmet breakfast. I'm old school and was actually disappointed with the menu because I just wanted eggs, potatoes, and an English muffin with coffee for under $8. The cheapest entree was the 'local' which was 2 eggs with seasoned potatoes, a gourmet toast and a reasonably sized sausage patty - for $9.99. Most entrees are between $12 and $15. The decor is vintage, rustic, and funky. Service was ok... Overall - I would just prefer a normal non-gourmet breakfast place where I could switch up the menu items on my plate.

Stopped at Chow for breakfast this morning. Food was good but the service was slow, slow, slow, and the waitress indifferent. Had to ask twice for coffee, had to follow-up on our meal. Also, the restroom was NOT clean. Will not return.

This place is very cool, popular and enticing. One of those places in Bend that you should visit for breakfast. The food was good....just good. The service, up until getting seated, was very friendly and with a smile. Nice touch to have coffee available for self serve while you are waiting to get seated. The issue and reason for the 3 star review is the service from the server assigned to my table. Insert "un" or "not" prior to the following adjectives: helpful, pleasant, genuine, kind, happy. Based on this first impression I will probably not return. Maybe he was just having an off day but when told to "hang on" when we asked a question, being pointed at when the food was auctioned off and told "it doesn't work that way" when I asked for a suggestion; I can't forgive. On the positive every other employee appreciated the business and looked as if they enjoyed their job.

We've eaten here several times now, more in the summer than the winter. They have an adorable space - like a little house with local art on the walls, and a very nicely designed outdoor patio. It's waaay easier to get seating in the summer since they can utilize the outdoor space. We've had breakfast here a few times and much prefer it to the lunch/dinner, just because it seems to come out faster and hotter (we're early risers and it's less crowded early). They have creative takes on your regular breakfast staples, using local or non-traditional ingredients for a twist - like polenta, crab cakes, seasonal produce, flavored hollandaise, Asian and Latin spices, etc. I like it much more than my BF because he likes the regular boring breakfast staples, but I appreciate the variety. The breakfast potatoes are a little over seasoned for my tastes, but you can substitute other sides. They make a great bloody mary and their coffee mugs have so much character - they are made by a local ceramics guy. Prices are slightly more expensive than a standard breakfast place but they really try to use organic and local ingredients, which I happily pay a premium to support. Also they have lots of options for vegetarian friends. The reasons for docking one star is that sometimes the food comes out lukewarm or their timing is off. A couple times we've gotten everyone's dishes except one, and then it's all awkward; you feel bad eating when one person is starving and has no food. We had some trouble getting refills on coffee or water when it's crowded, and when we took my in-laws, we got a wrong dish and no one came by to check on us, so my MIL just ended up eating it. I felt bad since it was their first experience in Bend. Thankfully, she said it tasted good!

I love this place! Very unique menu, healthy, fresh, local with lots to choose from and they switch it up all the time. Staff very friendly and accomodating to food allergies. Great atmosphere, I don't even mind waiting when I get to sit outside with my dog and listen to the live band with my bloody mary made from scratch with pickled veggies on top! Always stop here when I am in from out of town.

We had brunch here last July in the garden. Service was great and am a big fan of the atmosphere. The food was mostly good and prices were great too. I'd say a solid 4.5 stars (the only downside was the wait)

Moving to Bend, it was mega apparent there were many options for some seriously awesome breakfast. We are loyal customers of Jackson's Corner (west) and McKay Cottage..the breakfast at those two places are hands down the best in town. We tried Chow one morning, a Wednesday so as to avoid the massive lines we see on weekends. We had high hopes! Right off the bat the wait staff was rude. I work as a waitress in town and know that people are human and have off days, so I chalked this man's really "i don't care" attitude up to that. We were seated and our waitress came over and again...really rude. She was being very short with us and acted "uppity"..very un-Bend like. We were trying to make conversation with her and she wasn't having it. Note that the restaurant wasn't busy at all. We were 1 of 4 tables that had people at them, and there were 3 waitstaff at the time. The drip coffee was bitter, the menu was huge and exciting, though a but steep on price. We figured it'd be worth it though in the end. Our waitress eventually came back and we asked her a few questions about the specials that day, and she wouldn't answer them. She kept saying "well everything's good." No details or explanations to answer our questions. My brother asked her recommendation because again, the menu was large, and she in all honesty, said a selection and wrote it down without his ok. Ended up being a $17 plate at the end of it all, which she didn't tell us (when we asked she said it was 12) which we were really unhappy about. The food was way too salty and the potatoes were really overdone. My eggs benedict was luke warm and again, really salty. I ate about 1/4 of it and quit. None of us finished our meals. The French Toast was hard and had zero flavor...as if it was just placed in an egg wash and then cooked. Zero flavor. The whole experience was lack luster, and was sad because we really wanted to like this place. I won't recommend Chow when you have a slew of other top notch places in Bend that are consistent and solid everytime, not to mention they have friendly and welcoming waitstaff that make you happy to be supporting their place of business. Sorry Chow. We really wanted to like you :/

Not knowing anything about Bend, I searched for brunch on Yelp and found Chow listed at the top. We decided to try it out based on the phenomenal reviews and it was above and beyond what I expected! We walked up on a late Saturday morning to find a live flamenco band playing music in the garden with a bunch of outdoor tables overlooking the music. We were not expecting such an ambiance! Then to add to the perfect atmosphere, I had the dish called the "Caesar", a unique twist on eggs benedict that was really incredible. It was poached eggs over a corn cake with roja and verde sauces, hollandaise, and a side of cornmeal crusted tomatoes. Wow! The service was great too. I am just so happy with this place!

Simply the best creative breakfast place on the west coast. Creative, fresh and great flavors. Forget San Francisco pretentious BS and big prices for less quality. Awesome

This place is one of the best places for breakfast in town. There is always a little bit of a wait but it is well worth it. They have very good bloody maries and delicious creative breakfast items. All farm to table. LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This was my first time here and I chose this place based on several of the reviews. I felt this was going to be a a great choice, but it fell a little short. I want to say that I am a big foodie and feel I have a good grasp on what food, service and atmosphere should be like. In addition, I travel a lot and gave tried food all around the world. On this visit, my family and I were passing through and breakfast at CHOW sounded like a great idea. The food gets 4 stars. We had the Local, Corned Beef, and French Toast with seasonal compote. The Corned Beef was fresh, tender, flavorful, and juicy. The potatoes were well seasoned and the eggs cooked to perfection. The French Toast was a little dry, but still held its tangy flavor. The Compote was a great addition, not too runny, and each bite held it's own specific flavor. I loved the candied walnuts, I thought it was a good touch and it added a complimentary flavor profile. The a Local was simple and met its expectation. Service - This was where they lost the 2 stars. First, I could've really done without the flies buzzing around the table, my head and my food. I read a review about this issue already and was hoping it was an isolated case. I was wrong. Our waitress Anna - albeit friendly and semi helpful, she did fail to ask if we wanted jam for our toast, hot sauce (which I heard was homemade and delicious, but we never got to try it) and ketchup. Our orders were the type of food which would possibly need such condiments. This may be a little picky, but I would expect these little things nonetheless. Keep in mind, our visit was on a Wednesday morning around 9am. So, it wasn't busy or crowded. Moreover, the food was fantastic, but was hoping for a better experience.

I am writing this review minutes after finishing the best brunch I've had in a while. We waited less than ten minutes on a Monday and had delicious coffees to sip on seconds after being seated. Service was friendly and prompt, and our server was knowledgeable about the whole menu. And the space, so homey and comfortable! Loved all the funky artwork up on the walls and I felt like I was in someone's home, not a restaurant. The decor outside with their name made up of silverware is also brilliant. We ordered the eggs a la med with potatoes, the Caesar with herb crusted tomatoes, a side of bacon and a crab cake. The crispy polenta under my perfectly poached eggs was everything. The fried potatoes were crispy, not greasy at all, and the paprika gave it a nice smoky flavor. The house made carrot habanero sauce was my favorite to pour over eggs to eat with the creamy hollandaise. And the bacon-also perfection, not burnt but just close enough to make the thick slab crumble with every bite. Chow will be a must stop every time I visit Bend thanks to my experience today. My only regret is that I didn't discover it sooner.

Chow's ambiance is charmingly eclectic with great funky artwork decorating the indoor and outdoor space, friendly staff, and optional outdoor or indoor seating. The menu strives for local sustainable cuisine with some innovative fresh mash-ups. I tried the Ala Med described as crispy jalapeño cheddar polenta, spinach, poached eggs, with a roasted pepper and kalamata hollandaise sauce. The presentation was lovely, but at $12.5 the amount was small and would have left me hungry if not for the added side for an additional dollar, of fried cauliflower dressed with lemon juice, chile, cumin and creme fraiche. I had the Ala Med with the hollandaise sauce on the side. Without the sauce the individual components were somewhat bland and the textures didn't play off of each other in a complementary fashion. I added salt and the sauce to add some flavor to the dish and while this helped, I would not order this again. The cauliflower on the other hand was a tasty explosion of flavor that had me ordering another side to go. My dining companion had one of the daily specials, the Locavore, which was comprised of an omelet with local chicken apple sausage, asparagus, spinach, cherry tomatoes, Brie cheese, basil pesto accompanied by country potatoes and a side order of bacon. That dish scored solid points as being hearty and delicious. Our coffee cups were kept full throughout the meal. Overall a peasant experience. I would come back to try other items on the menu.

One of the best breakfasts I have had...period. Service, uniqueness of ingredients, quality, quickness and edgy but classic atmosphere made this place a must stop when coming from Portland. I would put it up versus any restaurant in Oregon. Throw caution to the wind and try something you traditionally would not. Kudos and thanks for the great bfast!

Would you like Flies with that? My Breakfast at Chow was interrupted by customers swatting flies with their menus. Seriously. I repeat: customers swatting flies with menus. Not one or two flies. A swarm. My Water Glass had a crusty layer of gunk in the bottom of it. The service was passable--but barely. The general feeling is too casual: nobody here really cares enough about the customers or the cleanliness. I need to know/feel that my business is appreciated. Here? Nope. The place had a general scuzzy vibe. The food is good--not great. A 3 out of 5. I think it's silly to laude one's sustainability--as Chow does--then charge extra for "local, organic eggs". Um...shouldn't that be the standard for a "sustainable restaurant"? Chow is a place where not-so-clean and not-so-disciplined young people "play restaurant". Do yourself--and them--a favor and skip this place.

After waiting for 2 hours, we were told that the kitchen could not accommodate our party of 7. This was despite the fact that a party of 11 was seated before us, who had arrived after us. The hostess did not understand that we wanted to sit outside because we had 2 dogs with us, even though we specified that upon our arrival. We tried to rectify the situation after speaking with the manager, by offering to sit and eat on the lawn, to which he agreed. After waiting for another 20 minutes, nobody came to check on us, at which point we left and just went to The Lot. I was more than unimpressed with the service, and was kind of astounded by the extent at which the staff seemed to just not care about us at all. I'm disappointed because I've heard the food is great, but no matter how good the food is, the service we experienced today has ruined any chance of me ever going back.

Yum. The waiters were friendly, and knew their stuff. They were helpful and timely. The atmosphere was decent (we sat outside), but could be more fun if they were open at night. Their outdoor patio would be perfect strung up with lights and some live music in the front yard while you chomp and gulp with your besties. My wife had the Crispy Crab Sandwich off the lunch menu and she loved it. Great flavor combos. I had a salad with the balsamic garlic dressing, which was pretty decent, not mind blowing. I also had the fried cauliflower (which was superbly seasoned and perfectly cooked) and the sweet potatoes with bleu cheese (which was divine). Food was a yes. For drinks, we shared a Guava Manmosa (refreshing, flavorful, sparkly tropical goodness) and the Headin South (vodka, tequila, citrusy yum explosion with a zesty spiced finish). WARNING/TIP: Drinks are strong. :) Good: everything Not As Good: no real complaints, maybe a few more gluten free/vegetarian options

Seriously awful. Was quoted an hour wait, waited 2 hours with out any explanation or courtesy. When finally we decided to ask about the situation we were rudely responded to as if we were extremely unreasonable on asking. This was an HOUR after our quoted time. This customer service is pathetic. After seated we our server was an absolute jerk. Pretentious and unfriendly. To top it all off they were out of what I ordered. I worked in the service industry for several years and this us just ridiculous. We were excited to try this place so were willing to deal with the wait but never again. There are too many good places in this town to waste your time and money on this mediocre establishment.

Definitely one of my top 3 favorite breakfast places in Bend. There's usually a wait but it is so worth it. They always have awesome specials making it very tough to choose what to order. Love all the fresh veggies and herbs from their garden and their staff is awesome.

Supposed best breakfast spot in Bend, OR. I'd have to agree. My wife and I started breakfast with a Man-mosa and a Bloody Mary. They didn't disappoint. The pickled veggies on top of the Bloody were the perfect accoutrement to a spectacular Bloody Mary. My wife had her Man-mosa with Grapefruit juice. What a great modification. On to the main course. My omelet of the day was AMAZING! Chicken-Apple sausage, spinach, mushrooms, asparagus and a creamy cheese. One of the best most flavorful omelettes I have ever had. Pair that with their house potatoes and home made salsa..... Heaven. My wife had blueberry pancakes with a side of bacon. The pancakes were light and fluffy. The blueberries were warm and firm. Just a tremendous pancake. Great atmosphere. Amazing food. A must in Bend.

We stopped here before leaving town. Fun decor with Big Lebowski artwork and Selleck vs Reynold mustache pics. My son ended up having 2 breakfasts as the portions were not very large (and I think it coincided with a growth spurt :) ) and he loved them both (french toast and pancakes). My bacon scramble was very good as was the smoked salmon hash that my husband ordered.

This is our second breakfast at CHOW (first review under Tripadvisor, tripadvisor.com/Restaura… ) but our first weekend breakfast. Both experiences have been pretty amazing. We haven't had any issues with service, everyone has been friendly and attentive. I can say in August when we went there were flies..but it was August! Flies abound out here. So, the last time we had The Sampson & Huevos Rancheros ...both delicious! This time around, we had the special, Pork Benny, and the Chicken Fried Steak..mouthwatering goodness. The drinks are always spectacular (Kentucky Blue & Margarita ..Santiago knows how to make a killer drink)! Only complaint was the blue cheese on the Country Fried Steak..a tad but overpowering. Next time, we are back (which will probably be tomorrow since we are here for the weekend..it will be onto a next item on their menu). Slight note, I didn't pay attention to the "Special" pricing and didn't realize the Pork Benny was $18..which stung a bit..still good but a little spendy.

I am a huge brunch fan and Chow did not disappoint! The wait was long, but there was a waiting area and we were given coffee-so that was a great touch! Their Benedicts were a delight! I'll definitly be back for more breakfast goodness.

I depend on fellow Yelpers to steer me in the right direction for new food adventures and CHOW did not disappoint! Located in an unassuming location in a sweet little house CHOW is a masterpiece on the palate. We were warmly greeted and immediately seated next to the window overlooking their sustainable gardens. My husband opted for the buttermilk crusted chicken fried steak with roasted potatoes while I went for The Vinny (their version of Eggs Benedict served over house made bread) with cornmeal-crusted tomatoes. Our meals came out promptly and oh so delicious. Their house made hot sauces were an added bonus for those of you brave enough to brave the heat. Our service was top-notch and I would highly recommend making this a breakfast destination if you're in the area.

Every ingredient in the Benny 2 was exquisite : beef brisket and every single ingredient fresh and homemade, Wow. French toast was the best ever with the homemade bread. Waiting for a table outside with the best bloody Mary and great music in beautiful yard wasn't a terrible experience either

Across the board, we had the most wonderful time at this restaurant. We came on he Fourth of July, and the hostess warned us it could be a bit of a wait. This didn't bother us, as there is coffee put out for those waiting for a table, as well as live music and a beautiful outdoor seating area. We only waited about 15 minutes before our table was ready. Even though it was packed, our server was so nice and attentive. The drink menu was extensive with a lot of delicious looking alcoholic and non-alcoholic choices, including fresh kombucha. We got two watermelon mimosas which were delicious. The food was AMAZING. My one complaint was, though the menu listed avocado as a main ingredient in my fish (eggs a la Caesar) there was only one small slice! Other than that, everything was amazing. My boyfriend got the omelet, which was incredible. Chow was on the pricier side, but I wouldn't say it was too expensive for the food and experience we had. All in all, a wonderful restaurant with exceptional service and delicious food!

I came in with my husband and another couple during our long weekend in Bend for breakfast, CHOW had been recommended to me from friends and fellow Yelpers and it was the food highlight of my trip. Let's get this straight, Eggs Benedict is my favorite food, hands down, always, when done right. This Eggs Benedict was in my top five rivaling Jory at the Allison and Longis in Maui. It was outstanding. Decadent homemade bread, perfectly poached eggs, amazing ham, and most importantly a cooked to perfection hollandaise. There was a garnish i did not think was needed, so I picked it off. It was served with crispy potatoes and the coffee was good. My friend is gluten free and dairy free and they were easily able to accommodate her. Everyone else loved their meals. Our server was a little intense, but sincere and attentive. We had no wait on a Saturday which was surprising and welcome.

Love this place. I typically get the Local for breakfast and it's always good. I've eaten here a dozen or so times and the party is always pleased with the food and the service. Eating outside on a nice day is heaven.

Awesome brunch spot. The outdoor patio is the way to go here. Even though the wait was "15 minutes" (more like 30plus) we were given free coffee and were able to wait on the grass where they have picnic tables and chairs to pass the time. Once the show began, I went with the "Local" breakfast which is the basic eggs, sausage, toast and breakfast potatoes. The classic order was delicious. Eggs fresh, sausage delicious, and out of this world breakfast potatoes. They also have incredible jam for the bread. Buddies had pancakes and "the sampson" both of which got great reviews.

Cool spot close to downtown with GREAT breakfast. Great atmosphere, a little bit of a wait but well worth it, especially since they had some live blues music that was really good. My wife and I had the crab cake hash and the "Caesar". Both amazing, Amazing... AND the 3 hot sauces were fantastic. It would be hard to not order the same exact thing because it was perfect, but I would like to try other menu items too next time. We sat outside because the weather was absolutely fabulous and there was great live blues going (with a whistler too). But the inside is super cool and nice too. Either way, you win. If your a local you probably hit this on a regular, and if your on vacation make this your breakfast destination. You won't regret it.

A definite go-to if you live in or are visiting the Bend area. This place has good vibes! Be prepared for a long wait on the weekends, though. I give props to the hostess who kept it all together, greeting the customers, re-filling water, clearing the tables all while keeping a smile on her face. The chicken apple sausage was juicy and tasty!

This place ranges from being absolutely spectacular to frustratingly bad. There's just no consistency, especially in terms of service. My first time here, my girlfriend and I stood at the desk for 15 minutes without anyone acknowledging us. Then another couple showed up and were greeted fairly quickly. It was them who informed the hostess that we existed and had in fact been waiting for quite a while. The hostess, who had walked by us at least 10 times, was entirely unapologetic. Then they gave me the complete wrong order, but once again we were being ignored by the staff so I had to wait another 10 minutes before I could tell anyone. They fixed the order and were nice about it, but the whole experience had left a bad taste in my mouth. I decided to give the place a second chance a few months later. This time the service was amazing and the food was incredible. It felt like an entirely different restaurant. I've returned many time since then, and more often than not I've had a very positive experience. It seems to me that the regular staff is pretty great. Whenever I have a server I don't recognize though, I expect--and usually get--the worst.

Chow is a funky spot with a focus on local vendors and sustainability and can accommodate pretty much any diet. They are happy to make up a unique dish just for you if nothing on the menu suits you. They also have some killer guava mimosas (or man-mosas if you want a bigger drink). Everything is fresh and tasty, although there isn't a ton of variety.

Entirely unique experience from the menu to atmosphere to the staff. The food is creative and delicious with huge portions. A lot of love and care goes into their food. And their homemade hot sauces were a nice touch! Great patio and deck is perfect for a summer breakfast. The every single staff member was increasingly personable and friendly; you can tell it's a family atmosphere among the staffers. Bottom line: highly recommended.

BA-BONG, my new favorite and most memorable place in Oregon, why? 1. CHOW, has a line, that means something 2. They handed out free coffee and mimosa' to us poor saps outside. A big STAR there. 3. Our Hostess or Owner, a beautiful woman who has the charm of Grace Kelly, but the glad handing of a politician. (she'd get my vote) 4. Katie, really her name say's it all. Dedicated hard worker and stunning! 5. The artistic preparation of the plate, a work like no other! Bend, has a certain elegant charm, the artistic vibe and community spirit that transcends over CHOW, can only be described as "You feel like family" Sorry Katie I'm from the south, so I guess my incestuous thoughts are ok. CHOW, is that spot where you want to go, our breakfast was that good, our service was that good, the patrons were that exciting to be near. From Salmon Hash, to Banana French Toast to Poached Egg's and Fried Green Tomatoes, all was raved. Kate was that efficient and nice, I'm exhausting myself just thinking about it. I love the antique former home they use as there business and the "Big Lebowski" art that hang from the walls.

Whoever created this place is a complete genius: the wait to get in is never under twenty minutes, but the bar is right next to the door so you can get smashed while waiting for your table. I will admit that because of this, I have never had a meal here while sober. So drunk me thinks that this is the best place around, while sober me thinks that they have the best bloody marys in Oregon. Every time I come here they have a new bartender, each is friendly and amazing at their jobs. But the one that sticks out is the one the servers call Santiago. He is amazingly friendly, and can talk to you about anything while making five drinks at the same time. I would recommend this place to everyone. But I would also say that the best time to come here is on a weekday when all the tourists are gone.

This is great breakfast spot! The food is delicious and the staff are very friendly and welcoming. It's a little pricey but that's understandable when it's a small local place. The MaMosa's were $10 each. Delicious but a little spendy for me. Overall, it's worth is to go but a little too spendy be a "regular" spot.

I finally went to Chow! After living 8 years in Bend it was ridiculous how long it took for me to go. And I definitely wish I had introduced my palate to this little place sooner. My husband and I went for brunch on a Friday morning and were seated within 10 min (which is a miracle considering how busy they always are). For our small 10 minute wait there was a side bar to get drinks. Once seated we met our hilarious waiter (I wish I could remember his name cause he is amazing!). He had a more than adequate answer to every question we had about the menu. I ordered The Blackstone eggs dish which was wonderful, my only qualm about it was I thought it needed salt. I'll have to go back and try another dish though to see if that was an isolated incident. All in all I believe Chow fully deserves the reputation it has in Bend. I look forward to my second visit. Notes: This is a fairly small building and seating is close together, be prepared for tight quarters and lots of noise. It doesn't bother me one bit, I find it part of the atmosphere.

We heard great reviews about this place and decided to give it a try while we visited Bend from Portland. We arrived just after 9am on a Monday morning and waited for our table. After we were seated at 9:15, we kept expecting someone to come up and at least get a drink order from us. Seven minutes in, someone finally came by to fill our empty water glasses - he did not say "hello" or even make eye contact. There were three waiters on staff all of whom passed us at least twice (not to mention the two people cleaning tables). I tried to make eye contact and ask for some attention, but no one seemed to notice or care. When the two tables who were seated after us were given attention, we finally decided that enough was enough and left around 9:32. So, after 17 minutes of sitting and waiting, countless passing servers, and two tables getting service before us, it is safe to say that we did not have a great experience here. It's a shame because we were looking forward to it and had heard such great things. To their credit, it was a very cute, cozy place and the food did look tasty. Just be aware of the possibility of not getting to experience that.

I probably had the best breakfast of my life here! The food was amazing, the staff was super-friendly, there even was live music! I ordered the Benedict no. 2, toast with beef brisket, spinach, onions, poached eggs and blue cheese. I won't even try to describe how good it tasted, you have to try it yourself! I'd recommend this place to anyone looking for an unforgettable breakfast!

I am a Bendite and I keep wanting to eat there because I love the restaurant space itself. The food, however, is unpredictable--from fabu-delish to so-so. The service is equally unreliable--from horrible to just OK to--is it possible, arrogant? This week I ate there again and again was disappointed. Crab cake sandwich was served on VERY stale bread and the crab cake was mostly bread meal. The bread was so hard, it isn't possible that they didn't know it wasn't fresh when they cut it. Had to fight for my food with the flies buzzing around. Another disappointing visit to Chow. Over-rated and over-priced and under-organized.

I am amazed by how delicious the food is here. As a vegetarian, it is hard for me to find a good, veg friendly, biscuits & gravy. Not a problem here! I feel like it has been a little different each time I've had it because they use in-season ingredients; however, I have never been disappointed. And the bloody mary's? I could write a whole other post on how great they are - but I'll just say that you should definitely try them. EAT HERE!

Worth the wait!! (But prepare for the wait). The servers are very attentive and have great senses of humor. Free coffee outside around the fire place while you wait. Food was awesome! The service was good but the food was horrible. I ordered the chicken fried steak and it came to my table pretty quickly only problem was the potatoes were cold and the the chicken fried steak was coated in raw cornmeal. It was like eating a cube steak coated in sans or small pebbles i wont go back the vic is way better.

I usually don't write reviews but this place is phenomenal. They're super nice, the food rocks and they even let us sit outside with our dog. The French toast is to die for - not dry, great flavor and nice normal portion. Prices are reasonable too! I had the crab cake sandwich and I haven't had a better sandwich in years. We loved it so much we went back three days during out stay out in Sisters. Well done Chow! Oh, and say yes to the Manmosa!

Chow is our go-to breakfast place in Bend. Every time someone visits we take them there, and the food is just as good as it gets. Fresh veggies and herbs from the garden, and the best benedict eggs you'll ever have. Keep an eye out for the daily specials, they are usually pretty amazing as well.

It seems there are some occasional kinks with seating people (our 20 minute wait ended up taking almost an hour) but the food is amazing (vegetarian sausage gravy and biscuits, homemade hot sauce) and servers are kind. They also really seem to love the food here, which is something that means a lot to me.

Great breakfast place. The Bloody Mary was fantastic, especially with all the fresh pickled veggies on top. We had French toast which was perfect as well as the crispy herbed polenta with spinach and poached eggs. Perfect start to a Sunday in Bend!

4 stars for the food, 1 star for the service. The food is fresh and creative, unless you eat the hash which is boring and under seasoned. This is my fourth time at Chow, and I am done. The ridiculously unorganized service makes the whole experience not worth it. We were told 40mins, and ended up waiting closer to 90. There seems to be no rhyme or reason in how they manage their wait list, and once you're seated, the service is either super rushed or your ignored. Chow has all of the elements to be fantastic, but they need to figure out how to operate.

Waited 2 hours and because we had 7 people in our party they ignored us for two hours in hopes that we'd leave. They "pretended" to feel sorry and accommodate but seriously didn't care. Disappointed in the local business.

We found this place from Yelp on our way thru Bend. Chose it based on reviews and for the fact they serve breakfast thru lunch. The parking was easy. The staff sat us right away ( a party of seven plus a Guide Dog). We table hopped outside searching for shade. They were very cool about it. Nicole was our vivacious efficient server and she gave me the hot tip, Crab Cakes Benedict with roasted and crusted tomatoes. Loved it! They allowed my picky little eaters to change the pasta primavera and Mac n Cheese to things more boring. 6/7 of us cleaned our plates. My hubby is hard to please and he was disappointed by his salad. It was a a Garden Salad with chicken. He said it was dry and the chicken not tasty. Restroom was convenient and clean. I would go back if I'm ever in Bend again

Oh my...this was one of the best breakfasts I've had in a while. We stayed in Bend for few days and this was our breakfast of choice nearly every morning. Friendly staff, great menu, fresh ingredients and all of this to be enjoyed in the cutest garden setting. Their home made hot sauces are also amazing!

The ethic here is farm-to-table so the menus flex with the season. Yes, it can be long wait to get in and it is busy but that is because the food is really good. They take time to creatively develop seasonal and (where possible) local texture/flavors. My adult kids always want Chow when they visit Bend. We usually just order what the server suggests.

We sat outside for brunch, and to be honest - I'm not sure what I'd think if we were inside. The patio is just that awesome, so CHOW gets major points for that. The menu is pretty unique for a breakfast place, but everything my group ordered was great. We were warned to stay away from the "Specials" menu - supposedly there are no prices listed for a reason :)

We loved sitting outside :) great way to enjoy the weather & food. I ordered the: Huevos rancheros. I'm Latina, so of course they aren't going to be the way I make them at home. But, they were still good. Great flavors. The only thing I would've done differently is add crema (sour cream) or at least have the option to get some. Also the beans were a little hard. Nevertheless, still had great flavors. The house potatoes were my favorite!!!!! Very flavorful and crisp! Didn't even use ketchup. I also loved their choices of salsas. I loved them all, including the habanero one. Husband: he got the biscuits & gravy plate with the a side of house potatoes. He stated that it was really good & finished both items!! Overall: it was a great breakfast with a nice waiter :) also- the manager (I think he was) approached us, and asked how everything was going!!!! That was very nice of him to be involved with his customers like that. We will come back next time were in the area.

We went there based on the yelp ratings. Strong hippie laid back vibe rubbed off too much on the staff. Lots of friendly folks, but the service was slooooow. It took way too long to get our breakfast -- one couple sat down after we had placed our order and got their food before we did! -- but what was more irritating was we had to constantly ask for refills. When the food finally arrived, it was very good. So good in fact, that we came back the next morning to give it another try after the wait staff earnestly apologized for the slow service and said that was not normal. Well, the next morning the service was even slower, and the refills even harder to get. But the food was still very good, so I'm giving it three stars (my son said two would be right, given the staff seemed aware of their shortcomings). But I wouldn't go back. I get the sense the place has a halo effect from its hype. True believers are willing to overlook the drawbacks and keep buying--such as one yelp review, which says, "I go there as much as I can, but each time there is something that goes wrong."

I really like it here, every time I've been here, the employees make me feel that they really appreciate the business and because of that appreciation they show their gratitude by giving excellent service. Anyway friendly people.

My husband raves, "the service here is the best I have ever had-ever." I have to agree. Everyone was friendly, efficient, attentive, but not overbearing. They made recs, refilled, and even took great care of our dog setting up a table on the lawn so he could sit with us and bringing him water and bacon. What? Yes. Second, there was live music. Finally, the food was excellent. We're Bay Area foodies and we didn't even know it until we started getting frustrated in our summer travels. Places recommended by locals in cannon beach and eugene were merely passable. We were so so relieved to find Chow. It's actually excellent. Highly recommend the lemonade, the huevos rancheros, and the crab cake sandwich. The cornmeal crusted tomatoes are dissapointing if you grew up with excellent, southern fried green tomatoes. Love it. Wish it was in the bay. Huge menu. Local emphasized.

The best breakfast I have ever had! beats anything I've had in Portland, New York, San Francisco, or LA. The attention to detail and subtle tastes is exquisite, all while still delivering the comfort feel a great breakfast brings. The pop art decor I could do without, but I suppose that is part of the charm. PLEASE PLEASE OPEN UP IN PDX!

If u are in the Bend,OR area then u must check out Chow. This place has a variety on the menu and the meals are made with fresh ingredients and prepared with the utmost care. The staff is polite and always checking up on you to see how things are. On a good day it is a must to sit outside and enjoy the sun while u enjoy ur Gourmet experience. And they even have a great addition with their homemade sauces. But with their fresh ingredients and flavors , u probably won't even need them. Enjoy

I so want to love this place, but . . . The food is 5-star. The service is between 2 and 3 stars. I'm giving a total rating of 4 stars because I really like the philosophy, the building, and the food, but a little less of that could easily have resulted in a 3-star rating. The service is just . . . odd. I ate there on two consecutive mornings. On the first, I sat at a table next to a woman and her young son, who had obviously been there for a little while, because the boy had a glass of orange juice. The server showed up, took my order, and was about to leave, when the woman asked if he would take her order too. She'd been there longer than I, but I was taken care of first. The second morning, I had Person #1 show me to my table, Person #2 pour my glass of water, Person #3 take my order, Person#4 bring my coffee, Person #1 bring my meal, Person #5 bring the spoon I'd asked Person #1 for, Person #1 bring me a second spoon, Persons #4 and #6 refill my coffee and water as the meal progressed, and finally Person #3 come back to bring the check. Between my order and the check, nobody asked me how the food was, if I needed anything, how I was doing, all the usual stuff. My strong impression is that the employees just float around, taking care of whatever they happen to notice. If everybody's responsible for everything, that usually results in nobody being responsible for anything. The job gets done, but not very elegantly. I don't expect servers to kiss my feet, but at CHOW I never felt that any individual was really focused on me as a customer. And why wasn't a spoon brought with my coffee? Do Bendites (Bendians? Bendonians? Bendies?) not put sugar in their coffee, or if they do, do they stir it with their forks? Or fingers? Or kayak paddles? I had the corned beef hash with eggs one morning, and the biscuits and gravy plus two eggs the next morning. I have zero quibbles with the food. Fresh, tasty, well-prepared, high-quality ingredients, and the coffee was excellent. I got the French press one morning, and coffee by the cup the next morning. It was all so good, I feel bad complaining about the service, but there you have it. Admittedly, I breakfasted alone. If I'd been with a group of friends, the socializing probably would have obscured the service issues, and I would have given CHOW the maximum 5 stars overall.

Meh... Not sure why everyone is so enamored by this place. I've been served cold food at Chow before and there is always a long wait to receive sub par service. If you order the most expensive specials and menu items they seem to be a little better about not leaving your meal under the heat lamp for a half hour but there are better places for sure. Also make sure to not order their house made bread if you don't want to break your jaw.

CHOW! What can I say...I love this place. The staff was so attentive. I dont think I went 5 minutes with out someone catering to me. My every need was fullfilled and then some. They had live music, indoor/outdoor seating, an amazing menu. Huge breakfast crowd on Sunday mornings but definately worth the wait. I had the The Blackstone - Poached eggs, Corn Crusted Tomatoes, Spinach, Bacon, Béarnaise Sauce. The Béarnaise was to die for! I ordered a slice of toast to make sure not one gram of that lovely sauce. What a healthy exceptional meal! I'm going to head back again and again.

    - One of the best places for Brunch in Bend. - The wait is usually long and they don't take reservation so plan to hang out in the front for 30-45 mins. - They have a cool cocktail bar on the side so you can grab a man-mosa while you wait (different fruit

A unique place to have breakfast or lunch. Great service and friendly staff. My wife and I had a great experience. Delicious food and great presentation. I had the corn hash beef and it was one of the best I've had in the U.S and presentation was an added bonus.

Amazing food!!! We brought our two kids and both loved it. My youngest got the kids Mac n cheese and loved it. My son and I got the huevos rancheros vegan and would eat it everytime! Gotta bump the folks here up from 4.5 for such a cozy and heartwarming brunch experience! The inside of CHOW is exactly like a home interior from the windows to the roaring fireplace in the back. My friend and I got our name down on the list and we were seated within ten minutes or so. The menu offers quite a variety from the usual suspects (omelettes, scrambles, benedicts, etc.) to more unique dishes like their take on Loco Moco. My Locavore omelette that included the day's freshest local meats and produce was very nicely done and the same went for my side salad (several in-house made dressings to choose from, my mustard-based vinaigrette was a hit). My dining companion's Chicken Fried Steak was easily the best of its kind yet and I dug the cornmeal crusted tomatoes on the side. To round the meal out, we were given three colorful bottles of hot sauce based on jalapenos, red chilis and habanero peppers. The green jalapeno was especially good and provided great kick to each bite. Service was no slouch as the several staff covering our table were as friendly and attentive as could be. Overall, an absolute must for anyone visiting Bend.

My friend and I went here on at Thursday morning. It was packed. I got the Ceaser "benedict", which was quite delicious. The service was ok, but I'm sure would have been better if it hadn't been so packed. The prices were not cheap, but not too expensive. It was a very cute place, but not very big. Definitely worth a try!

I can't say enough good things about this place. I wish Corvallis had something like it- you've never really experienced a good breakfast joint until CHOW. Local, fresh, organic, original, Eco-friendly, delicious...I'm drooling right now while I think about it. They have their own garden. Awesome outdoor patio. Great coffee, friendly servers, PHENOMENAL menu..I was trying to resist the urge to lick my plate. If you have never been here, GO NOW.

Truly disappointed...arrived at 8:15a, restaurant opens at 7:00a. Two other tables seated. 5 people on the floor yet we waited 5 minutes to be seated and 10 minutes to order coffee and then server wanted our food order at same time. Did not offer the specials. Coffee cups were majorly chipped around the edges...very dangerous. Food was just ok. They have perfected the cooking of the poached eggs in advance but this results in a cold egg. Along with a huge slice of cold tomato and undercooked bacon and a bernaise sauce that had no taste of tarragon it made for a not so delicious breakfast. The hot sauces were the highlight. You can tell the ingredients are first class but the service and organization is bad. Training a server at the busiest time of breakfast makes no sense. Train on the fringe and train the register off time...have no plan of returning or recommending this restaurant.

I thought the food was run of the mill for a breakfast joint, but these places are a dime a dozen in Eugene, so it didn't really feel to special to me. It's the same old over priced scramble with marginal service or in our case poor service from a server that didn't visit our table one time after the meal got to us. I heard great things about this place and was really let down with the long wait, cold food and poor and forgetful service. Maybe the stars just weren't aligned that day and we should give it another shot down the road.

Really great breakfast!! Be prepared to wait for a table but it is worth the wait. We ordered a Bloody Mary and it was just okay but we both ordered versions of Eggs Benedict one with the potatoes (yummy!!) and the other with the polenta (really really yummy!!!)

Been a couple of times for Brunch and can attest to why there's always an hour long line for this place. Food is very fresh, creative and there's a varied menu for everyone's tastes. Last time I went with a vegan, a no-lactose gluten free person and my buddy and myself who are carnivores and we were all very please with our meals. Very close to being a perfect brunch experience but the wait keeps us from going as often as we might.

Nice place; being a resort town, my expectation level was pretty low. But after trying, I found this place to be comparable to many famous places in Portland area in terms of food quality. They announced the fact that their ingredients are based on local provider; not sure if that was the reason, but I felt in general good quality of ingredients throughout the dishes. There seems to be some concerns about the service quality. Mine was quite superb; very accommodating. One thing to note to our fellow reviewers; we can't (hence we shouldn't) expect the level of service quality that we get from dinner time for brunch time. How each table rotates, how brunch menus are prepared, how it's paired with drinks, how hungry the customers are, are all quite different during brunch time... In general, highly recommended. One thing to be aware; very crowded on weekend.... If you can, you should get reservation otherwise the wait time could be over an hour...

Some of the freshest food and appreciated minimal menu which I am sure why it was fresh . Outdoor seating was great because the weather was nice. The waitstaff was very knowledgeable and helpful. We were lucky because we had a gift card but I would come back and pay next time.

This place is super cute! It's a house that has been converted into a restaurant. They also have their own garden in the yard which you can easily see from the street. My sister and I came here not expecting too much but we were pretty happy with our food. We came in on a Saturday around lunch time and it was packed. We even had to wait about 20 minutes before getting a table for two. I ordered the Blackstone which was really good! I loved that it was poached eggs on top of a halved tomato. The spinach and bacon as well as the bearnaise was delicious! My sister ordered the Samson. She enjoyed it but I'm not a huge fan of crab cakes so I thought it was okay. They also offered us free coffee since I checked in on yelp. Overall, we were really happy with our food. They also have three different hot sauces you can try. Two of them were pretty spicy but I loved the red hot sauce which was spicy but perfect to where I could still enjoy my meal and not feel like my mouth was on fire. The service on the other hand was okay. Our waiter seemed a bit cold and wasn't very friendly. There was other staff who helped drop off our food and cleaned our dishes and they were all nice but our waiter definitely had a chip on his shoulder. I even tried to ask if they sold their hot sauce and he gave me a really cold response and walked away. If it wasn't for their food being good, I probably would've rated this lower. Bottom line, go for the food. It's a great place to stop in and try if you're in Bend.

Awesome food, charming setting, the only downfall being that is is quite popular and it will take forever to be seated and served. The menu is compact but there are enough options to please everyone. The food is high quality, fresh, and flavorful. I had the Caesar breakfast, and it was one of the best breakfasts I've ever had. The corn cake was out of this world good, the sauces were amazing, and the potatoes are divine. The table salsa's they serve are remarkable, especially the chipotle. My husband got the Local, which is the most basic breakfast, and didn't find it as filling as everyone likes a breakfast out to be, so I'd recommend going with one of the specialty plates. The only real negative is the wait. It took us an hour to be seated, and then it was another 45 minutes to get our food (for 5 people) after we placed our order. But the setting is cute and there is ample wait area seating, so it's not too bad.

  • Gluten Free RV ..

We visited this establishment after learning that it offers some gluten-free options to some dishes. When talking with our server, he obviously was knowledgeable about Celiac and assured me that precautions in the kitchen would be sufficient to protect me from gluten. Some of the menu items here were interesting and inventive, and the food (once it came) was very good. Best of all, I had no gluten reaction. However, the service was very slow even though it was not crowded. The wait staff was lacking in numbers and it seemed the kitchen was slow as well. We definitely recommend the food, but you may want to chose another eatery if time is an issue.

Chow is delicious and accommodating. Their menu states at the top that food is their passion and that if you have dietary restrictions, let 'em know and they'll take care of the rest. That's great! The place is quaint, and busy as all get out. Many people have mentioned before that you'll have to wait. And indeed that's true. That being said, with people crammed in the tiny foyer, the attitudes from the (albeit friendly) wait staff are pretty much "get in and get out." I get it, high turnover means less wait, more customers, more cash ,etc I'm likely to show up there again to try out one of the many things that I didn't get to eat from the menu. But I'll show up before any of the rushes so I can enjoy my meal and relax.

This is one of the best places in town. Whenever I have friends visit from out of the area, I bring them to Chow to impress them. Works every time! The service is always great and the food is INCREDIBLE! Their chefs must be geniuses or something...The wait can be long sometimes but it's worth it - while you wait you can order a manmosa or their yummy Bloody Mary to bide your time. I also have to add that this business is very generous in its support of the community, which has been appreciated on several occasions. I can't say enough good things about this place. :)

As a rule, I never wait for a restaurant. If it's busy I go somewhere else. Chow is the exception. This is my brunch spot whenever I'm occasionally in Bend, and some weekends I go two days in a row :) I love eggs Benedict; they have a couple of standard ones on the menu and usually also a couple of amazing specials. They have three levels of house made hot sauce with complex flavor; don't forget to try them! The bloody mary's are yummy too. I wish there was a brunch place I liked as well in Portland.

  • Justin B.

Here from out if town, but we already feel like family. Chow completely encompasses the atmosphere of Bend! First you walk in through a sunflower garden, walking into live music during breakfast. Everything seems to be locally grown, even the vodka for the house bloody mary!

Had breakfast here after a full-moon summit of South Sister. My brother and I came hungry and ordered two dishes each. We couldn't finish despite the delicious food and our Sasquatch appetites. Every town needs a place like this... Limitless yet creative menu options, almost all of them locally sourced (some right from the garden out front). I'm wishing there was a killer breakfast place like this in "foodie-capital" San Francisco, but I'll have to save it for my annual escape to Bend.

AMAZING EXPERIENCE. Servers were all so attentive. Many servers came to frequently ask how we are doing even when the place was packed and crazy busy!! Even the chef was out asking how we are doing and treated us with a special appetizer for little hiccup we had while waiting for a table to open. Apple bourbon braised pork was to die for and coffee comes in these awesome CHOW mugs. Chicken Fried Steak and Benedict were so good too!! Sucks we don't live around here to come here everyday :( My wife and I would come here every time we are in Bend!

The food here is great. TONS of flavor and unique dishes. If you're a foodie, then you'll love this place. The prices are a bit on the higher side, but they use quality ingredients so I believe it's worth it. The service has been either great or so-so.

LOVE CHOW!! My fiancé and I literally come here every weekend. This place has a great vibe and service to match. Erick the bartender makes exceptional delicious drinks. Anya the hostess is always super friendly and attentive and the rest of the staff always seem like they're actually happy to be there. Very comfortable, easy going atmosphere with AMAZING food. I literally crave their corn meal crusted tomatoes and side potatoes. My fiancé loves their Benedicts and I can live off of their ginger pumpkin pancakes OR get this, French toast with pork belly. Sounds weird but it was the best thing I've ever had. (This was a special so don't expect everyday and be sorry you missed it!) Also you can buy their home made hot sauces, Bloody Mary mix AND the pickled veggies that come in the bloodys! Please believe the green hot sauce, Bloody Mary mix and veg are in my fridge right meow. Brought both my mom and some of our friends from out of town here for breakfast and they were all very pleased with their orders and the restaurant itself. To top off all the other great things about this place, YOU CAN BRING YOUR DOG!! what more could you ask for? Good drinks, food, service, AND you get to see dogs and puppies there. Will continue being a huge fan of Chowlandia :)

Awesome food. 3 types of homemade hot sauces, yummy homemade bread. On the vinny-the traditional eggs Benedict the bread could have been cut a little thinner-seemed a little doughy by the end. But overall great, high quality, homemade food. The service was very friendly too. Highly recommend going.

Four stars for the food. Wife had a scramble that she loved. I had the chicken fried steak. Meat was av erage, gravy and potatoes were great. 'Toast' was half of a dried out biscuit. Prices were too high for the quality and quantity. Also had flies buzzing around the table. Typical trendy over hyped hipster joint.

Oh my goodness this place is phenomenal!! My mother and I had brunch at Chow a few days ago. The place was pretty busy (we were there at about 11am on a Thursday), but we were greeted by the staff right as we entered. My mother ordered some fabulous tea (Sweet Bee Tea?) and I got the "health kick" drink (kombucha tea w/ lots of other goodies). Both were delicious and refreshing! I couldn't stop smelling my mom's tea.... I got the scrambled eggs special with local eggs. You could just tell that the ingredients were fresh and organic. The dish overall tasted so much better than I had expected (and I have some high expectations). But the food seemed to be of a higher quality compared to most breakfast/brunch joints. I loved the overall ambiance of the place too. You feel so welcomed here and I could tell that everybody works hard to ensure that the customer has a happy and healthy experience.

I should have followed my instincts and ordered one of their menu staples vs the gluten-free french toast special (eggnog french toast w/ pumpkin compote & candied pecans) I impulsively chose. Hats off to Chow baking their own GF bread...but my suggestion is that they try their GF concoctions before serving or having the servers tell patrons, "the french toast isn't so great GF- try the GF pancakes instead" The GF french toast special was virtually unpalatable. It was sawdust dry b/c it had been barely dipped in batter. And before I get creamed, I do know how easily GF bread falls apart & that GF meals can be a PIA. For GF french toast, the beauty of the egg-based batter is that it will be cooked back together. I made myself choke down one piece by smearing the super yummy pumpkin compote (5 stars for the 2tbsp!) on it, mainly because we had to drive back to WA and I knew I would be hungry later. Now my DH had the opposite experience-- he loved his meal of an omelette special & the house made salsas, beautifully contained in glass bottles. So, I wholeheartedly commend CHOW for flexing to accommodate gluten-sensitive people like myself, but the GF food still has to taste good. I'm hoping this was just an aberration...

A must if you're in the area. Something for everyone, foodie or not. Lovely patio area, great for a lazy day. Everything we had was amazing...Signature tea, smoothie of the day, Spicy vodka Bloody Mary with bacon which paired beautifully with my corncake eggs benedict. You get the idea. Plan on an hour or two and a happy soul.

Really good breakfast offerings here, and not just your standard fare. I had the cornmeal crusted Chicken fried steak, which was awesome. They have great house made hot sauces to boot, from a mild but smokey tomato based version to a first habanero. There was outdoor seating in front of a fire while you wait, along with a giant thermal container of coffee. To top off my magic breakfast, Bruce Campbell ate breakfast at the table next to us. Just another Sunday in Bend...

Wow...spent the weekend camping/drinking beer in Bend and decided to have a nice breakfast before hitting the road to head back down to CA. By quickly skimming yelp, I found Chow and decided to give it a go. Chow is a cute house-like structure with a beautiful garden surrounding it. Even though it was slightly raining and cold people were huddled outside waiting their turn for a table inside. We waited about 15 minutes for a table for two and were able to have nice hot coffee during the wait. The inside is decorated with local artists' creations, warm colors, comfortable chairs and lots of plants...and the FOOD...the food was absolutely wonderful. I had the Caesar, poached eggs on top of corn cakes with quesco fresco and delicious homemade roja and verde sauces. Absolutely delicious. The entire experience was fantastic and I left happy as a clam. Definitely worth the wait...Wish they had one of these in every city!

Love love love this place! I've only had breakfast there, but it was amazing. From the friendly staff to the coffee and the presentation of the food I was quite impressed. Everything was super fresh and thoughtfully put together. The fact that they grow some of their own food and use local products just makes me love it more. They're also very vegan/raw/gluten-free friendly... Bonus! The only downside that I live hundreds of miles away from it :(

Ouch, that $45 price tag on a two person breakfast stings. $10 for a mason jar sized bloody mary? We didn't even pay that for a bloody mary on the mountain. They do label themselves as a sustainable restaurant so I understand why they price everything so high, I just don't think it's really necessary (slash worth it). I mean, I did see the V8 bottle that their bloody mary "mix" came from... I really wanted to like this restaurant, our waiter was very funny, nice, helpful, and definitely made our breakfast something fun. The menu is very creative, and intriguing and sounded extremely tasty but I think they stretch themselves a little too thin with all the variations on their hollandaise and béarnaise sauces. I ordered the caesar (not a salad, just a variation on eggs benedict) and thought there were definitely too many sauces on that plate fighting for attention. At the end, the roja sauce beat all of the other sauces into submission, and unfortunately for me tomato based sauces aren't my favorite, I'll take a lemony hollandaise sauce all day every day. My poached eggs were also almost cooked all the way through which is a bummer... The great service, and edible enough food make this a solid 3 stars for me. Glad I tried out this restaurant finally, but I probably won't be back.

Wow. I had some very high expectations of CHOW based on the Yelp reviews, but honestly, I was very disappointed. Let me begin with the good. CHOW had great coffee. Being a northwesterner, I have pretty high expectations on coffee. I often get a let-down in this respect at restaurants, however the coffee here was excellent. My wife got the home fries as her breakfast side, and these were dynamite as well. CHOW also attempts to use fresh/local ingredients - this is something I love to see from restaurants. That sums up the positives, as far as I'm concerned. The thing that really stuck out to me is how BLAND the food was. I ordered the Huevos Rancheros, and they had shockingly little flavor. Other folks on Yelp have raved about them, but the only thing I can conclude is that these folks have just never had decent Huevos Rancheros... They looked nice, and colorful, but I would never have though it possible to get this little flavor into Huevos Rancheros. I had the corn-crusted tomatoes for my side, and these were, well, bland. I was expecting something like corn meal breaded fried green tomatoes, but I got two small, whole tomatoes, with a dusting of corn meal across the top. Just not much going on. My wife ordered the corn-meal breaded country-fried steak. Again, very, very BLAND. How is it possible have so little flavor in a gravy-covered country-fried steak? I walked out with a full stomach, but at $25 for two people, I won't be back.

Really nice and conscientious owner followed up with me after I posted the following review. The owners obviously care and that's great. My third visit, breakfast on Saturday, roughly 9:30am. Restaurant was not full. Three empty tables inside during my entire breakfast - 30 minutes elapsed between ordering and eating. While waiting those thirty minutes I watched the table across from me return their food. Two people at the table, both orders returned to the kitchen. Three of us at our table. Three orders of eggs in various dishes, all eggs overcooked. Ordered one over easy, two over medium - not a runny yoke to be had. Nothing oozed out of single yolk. What's that called? I think over hard. My dad had the huevos rancheros "tortillas are like shoe leather"', roommate had the Samson and the corn meal tomatoes were a bad example of keeping it local, I had the Caesar and 60% of the egg portion of this dish was the cornmeal patty. Say something nice.......nice food presentation and nice wait staff. I'm done. I know a lot of people love it, I see the Yelp reviews. I won't be back.

We've come back several times this summer. The food continues to be spectacular (and reasonably priced for the quality!) and they finally got good coffee. However, I had to subtract a star since service has been going downhill. One time, we had a blond server with a terrible attitude. My coffee didn't come and we had to go inside to get it. When the order came, it was all wrong and she seemed annoyed when we told her about it. When the right food finally came, the rest of my party was already done. The bill was out all wrong. We noticed it after paying and told her. She went back inside and changed it to MORE. (how that's possible without the card?) When we asked her about it, she said that the prices on the menu were wrong and that management had taken away her 'voiding' privileges, so she couldn't adjust our bill. By this point she was very snippy and obviously wanted us to just go away. We did complain to the manager but she's still there. Last time, the servers were just chatting for 10 minutes while everyone in the restaurant was waiting. That was a bit strange. At least the food was right that time (but the prices on the bill and the menu are still different!)

There is always a wait here! So try and get here early, especially on weekends. But there is a wait for a reason! The food and service are gooooooood. I've been here on several occasions now. Their Huevos Rancheros are AMAZING. I've also had the french toast special (it was pineapple coconut) and that was decent but not my fave- kind of dry? Their breakfast potatoes are to die for!!! Smokey and salty and NOM. And those homemade salsa/sauces?! DELISH. My mom got their pumpkin/cinnamon (I think?) pancakes- also yummy. And their mimosas are also tastey! I've heard their bloody mary's are superb. Everyone we've brought here has enjoyed everything they ordered every time. SO that's a testament to the good-ness!

Had a party of 7 and we waiting for almost 2 hours. The hostess didn't put us in the book after we talked to her and we tried to be accommodating by saying we would eat on the lawn. They gave us menus, never came back to take our order and then told us their kitchen couldn't handle our party. I haven't had such a horrible "attempted" dining experience in a very long time. Management needs to pay more attention to how they threat their guests.

Good food, awful service. Over the course of well over an hour, I spotted our waitress a total of three times. We had to ask different people multiple times for things. Not a one of them smiled or was friendly. Maybe it's not the hipster way. Oh well. Update/reply for Touvell: Thanks for your response. Yes, it was very busy today. But since this is the only time I've ever visited Chow, it's all I have to go by. Let me give you the details of my visit. If you feel I'm being unreasonable, then you should be happy I won't be back. I was visiting friends, and they picked Chow as a way to show off what Bend has to offer. They arrived around 10:15AM and were told the wait would be about 30 minutes. We arrived about 10:20. The wait was actually about 45 minutes. No big deal. We were seated at a table at the far side of the patio. It took at least 20 minutes for our waitress to show up. She was blonde and wore a blue and white striped shirt, if that helps. The table next to us sat down about 15 minutes after us. Their waitress showed up within 5 minutes, so we were waited on at about the same time. We ordered food and drinks, including an orange juice and coffee with cream for one of our party who hadn't gotten coffee while waiting. We didn't see our waitress again for at least another 20+ minutes. Meanwhile the table next to us got drinks in under 10 minutes. We flagged someone down for the coffee, which he brought pretty quickly but without milk or cream. Our waitress finally came with the juice I'd ordered, and we asked again for cream for the coffee. She disappeared again. After another 5-10 minutes, we asked someone else for cream which he brought. Our waitress finally came by with cream and was seemingly startled that we already had some. Hey, it was busy. I understand ... to a point. Before our food arrived, I decided to go to the bathroom. I asked one of the staff - a guy with a reddish beard - where the bathroom was. He replied "in the house" in an abrupt what that seemed to say either "duh, everyone knows that" or "I'm busy, don't bother me". Either way, i went inside and asked someone else who waved me in the right direction. Our food finally came - except for my side order - and things were pretty much okay. (Our waitress was again nowhere to be found, so we tried to retrieve some hot sauce from the wait station. One of the staff said he'd take care of us and disappeared into the house to retrieve some. A few minutes later he brought us the 3-flavor variety of hot sauces. Fine. About 10 minutes into the meal, I flagged down another staff member and asked if he could check on my side order. Someone brought it about 5 minutes later. When we were finished, we managed to find our waitress and get our bill. She took the credit card and disappeared again. When she didn't come back for another 10 minutes or so, we all got up and went to the front where we managed to find her and finish paying. I would have asked to speak to someone about the service, but I didn't want to embarrass my friends (since they picked the restaurant) or take any more time. It's entirely possible that I'm just a difficult customer who expects too much. If that's the case, you should be glad that I won't be back. But if you think my concerns are at all legitimate, all I ask is that you share them with your staff.

Chow was SO good. Everything on the menu was fresh, seasonal, local and, most important, DELICIOUS! I wish I could eat here EVERY DAY. My wife and I went here for brunch and were blown away by the variety and quality. Be prepared to wait for a while for brunch, but grab some coffee and relax by the fireplace outside while you wait or run across the street to Cuppa Yo! for some delicious FroYo from the coolest peeps in town.

I had been waiting about 15 years to finally visit Bend and it was just as beautiful as I imagined. Chow was the perfect introduction to what life in Bend would be like, if I decided to move there. This little restaurant is nestled between tall trees in a cabin-like building filled with art, antiques and stained glass inside. We went there for breakfast one lovely Sunday morning in September. There was a small wait before we could be seated but there is a self-service coffee bar and a spacious front yard filled with chairs for soaking in the warm morning sun. We were seated after about 20 minutes and we got a table inside facing a beautiful stained-glass window. You can also choose to sit outside on their deck. There was a fireplace near our table and the whole place was decorated with funky art and antiques. It felt very bohemian and cozy. The food was amazing. They are very flexible with their breakfast menu and actually encourage you to suggest substitutions and make special requests. They accommodate those who are gluten-free, vegan, raw-only, vegetarian, etc. I had the 'Eggs ala Med' dish and it was scrumptious. It was two poached eggs over crispy herb polenta with spinach and roasted pepper hollandaise. Service was polite and attentive. They are very family-friendly. Food came out quickly. If I am lucky enough to get to go back to Bend for a visit, I'll definitely go to Chow again.

Woke up very early for instant seating at CHOW and started the day off right with an amazing bloody Mary featuring homemade pickled veggies from their garden. The food was less impressive, and a let down after reading so many amazing reviews. I felt the menu featured too many "alt breakfasts" and I prefer more standard fare so my options seemed limited. If you're looking for an out of the ordinary breakfast or maybe an interesting Benedict, this is your place. Otherwise, go elsewhere.

  • Doug D.

This place is the bomb! First off, Bloody Mary's are great. The pickled veggies it comes with are very unique and the mix is also something you don't get. It had some kind of celery or cucumber juice that was very refreshing. Next the meals. The GF got some beef brisket Benedict, served on crispy polenta with horsey hollandaise - see good. I order pork something on a fried tortilla with jalapeño creamy polenta . I got something without the polenta, taters instead. The server was quick to respond and said just keep the taters and he would fetch up some polenta. I started eating and it was great. The server came back and told me I had the wrong order completely and brought me what I really ordered. It was so good. Excellent meat and great textures. We both agreed - one of the best breakies we've had. Get your mouth around some of their food. Prices were a bit high though.

Went here during the day, waited maybe 10-15 minutes, not long at all. Great service, super nice people and a decent sized menu - not too many options so you aren't flustered with what to order, yay! I had some coffee (not that great,eh), had the huevos rancheros with cornmeal encrusted tomatoes: yummmm! They provide you with three housemade spicy sauces, so I tried them all. Soooo good! Yea this place is pretty stellar. They also have a bar so you can order cocktails. And they have a chalkboard listing their specials, awesome!

Bend's best breakfast! The food, cocktails, service, and ambiance is the best!! I also highly recommend for lunch...fresh ingredients in every dish, subtle but amazing flavors, and a very comfortable setting! Only wish they were open for dinner!

Great service and quaint environment. Had the Monte Cristo which I had them hold the onions, because I thought that was odd. Turns out, the sandwich could have used the flavor of the onions. The French Toast was a little bland. Their tea is delicious, especially the chai. Will go again.

Awesome atmosphere. Excellent food. But..., we waited nearly an hour for our food with squirming hungry kids. 3-4 tables around us were in the same boat. Our waitress didn't even acknowledge it when she brought the bill :(

Their Eggs Benedict is out of this world, especially when you order it with the local farm fresh eggs (so worth it!). I have been in there a few times and this last trip was just awesome. The thing about Chow as with most of the good places in Bend is that is crowded and almost always a wait. Thankfully it was just 2 of us and we only had to wait for like 10 min, we quickly ordered and the food came up quick and was freaking amazing, my girlfriend had the Vinny which is sooo good with the slightly sweet corn cake, eggs, and whatever that sauce is, its damn good. The Benedict though is my go to, and Chow one of the best, eggs cooked perfectly, hollandaise well balanced, the homemade bread makes it, its just so damn good. Maybe its time for an East Side chow like all the others are doing to knock those wait times down :). Overall great job Chow! I also love the awkward drunken/hungover conversations with your staff who always seem happy to be there.

  • Kimberly B.

I'm buying into the hype - this was one of the best breakfasts I've ever had. Come prepared to wait - we were told about 20 minutes, and it was closer to 45, but we got a cozy seat by the fireplace and very attentive, kind service. The food was absolutely outstanding - tasty local kombucha on tap (!!), perfect potatoes, and a chicken fried steak with gorgonzola gravy with 2 delicious over-easy eggs. Yes, please.

Seriously. This place will have you dreaming of breakfast the remainder of your day. Cute, rustic atmosphere and the food is incredible! The Bloody Mary (with house infused pepper vodka) is the best in town and the service is also prompt, attentive and our server was hysterical. Honestly, if you don't go to CHOW, you're crazy.

Order off the local board. Yes! Scrambles are hard to screw up, but they are also hard to perfect. Chow is perfection -- order at will b/c it will be good. Lots of veggie options and stellar tea choices. I had the coffee and it was great to sip on a cup before being seated outside. The staff is very friendly -- you can tell they are passionate about their good food and sustainable choice. Go now! The patio is dog-friendly.

Thank you, Yelp mobile app for leading us to CHOW. I loved the name, browsed the reviews, and off we went. CHOW is located in a former house, surrounded by gorgeous plants dusted with snow. We wedged our way in, got ourselves on the wait list, and tried to stay out of the way as we looked around. A big board in the entry way lists businesses that the restaurant is currently supporting/doing business with. Once we were seated after a maybe 15-20 minute wait, we noticed that many of their food & drink items are made in house: peppered vodka, bread, salsas, pickled veggies. I totally appreciate this. Handsome husband had the chicken fried steak with a side of cornmeal encrusted tomatoes. The tomatoes were attractive, but a little mealy. He devoured everything else, which came with a choice of gravy. The choices I can recall: mushroom, bacon, country, and veggie. I ordered what's called the "local," which is: 2 eggs, a side of either house potatoes/creamy polenta/cornmeal encrusted tomatoes/something else I forgot, and a choice of English muffin/toast, and choice of meat- andouille, chicken apple sausage, veggie sausage, crab cake, and I can't recall what else. So many choices! I loved it. Their house potatoes are SO GOOD. And! Three house-made salsas were brought for me to try: a smokey red salsa (good!), salsa verde (good!), and habenero carrot- my favorite! It was sweet/mild, then finished with a gentle heat that lingered, yet made you want more more more! The crab cake was delicious and just what I was hoping for. The generous slice of house-made whole wheat toast I decided to set aside for dessert, which I topped with house-made berry jam. Everything was so delicous and I'd go again if I find myself in Bend, OR. My *only* complaint is that the space everywhere is so cramped. But the service was stellar and everyone working was out-of-their-way friendly. Definitely check this place out if you're in the neighborhood.

7 months later and we made it back to Bend! Of course, our Bend trips are not complete without a visit to Chow! We adore this little house and the breakfast they serve. This time while we waited, only 20mins, we were served Bloody Marys. Nice to be served drinks while you wait for your table! After we placed our order, they brought over some fresh banana bread...so fresh it was still warm. The best nana bread! Our breakfast was just as good as we remembered it from our first time here, fresh local ingredients! I would love to see them do dinners! I think Chow would be seriously dangerous if their dinners are anything like their breakfasts!

I miss Chow. :O( We moved from Bend last month back down to LA and this is still the BEST breakfast place I have ever been too. No one knows how to prepare tofu like Chow. Before I moved, my hubs and I went here at least once a month - sometimes twice a month for breakfast. That was a lot for us considering we cook most of own meals. I always ordered the same dish b/c it really was THAT good - Eggs ala Med, sub tofu for eggs, and order an extra side of tofu to go. The person that wrote the roasted pepper hollandaise was bland, prob drank too much the night before and screwed up their tastebuds b/c I have eaten this dish at least a dozen times and that hollandaise was always perfect the way it was - no need to add anything to it. In fact the the components always came together quite perfectly. These chefs know how to make a everything nice!! Miss you Chow. But I will be back and when I'm in Bend, I will def be ordering Eggs ala Med again.

Whenever we visit Bend (from Eugene) we make sure to stop for breakfast here at CHOW. It's honestly the best breakfast food I've had in the state of Oregon. Amazing service, adorable location and their hot sauce....is so incredible I can't believe they don't have their own store front just dedicated to those sauces. :) Yum. This is a must-go location in Bend.

My favorite breakfast place in town! It's a little spendy, but you pay for what you're getting: Organic and locally sourced food. My favorite items are the Blackstone with cottage potatoes and they have some delicious sweet potato wedges with blue cheese crumbles on top. When you order, ask for some hot sauce - they will bring you three kinds of house made hot sauce that will knock your socks off! Try a MAN-mosa if you're willing, a pint glass sized mimosa that comes in some inventive flavors.

First time in Bend. You have to come to this place. Everything our group got was outstanding. Mamosas are strong and staff is super friendly and informative. I got chicken fried steak and it was probably the best I have ever had.....freshest too.

When we arrived for lunch, it was pretty packed but they beat the estimated 15 minute wait time by 10 minutes. The staff was exceptionally friendly and efficient, but the best part was the delicious food!! My husband was reluctant to let me try his burger because he didn't want to miss a single bite! We will definitely be back next time we are in Bend.

La-la-loving this restaurant! My friend and I come to Bend pretty often to climb at Smith Rock, so we are in serious need of a good meal. What we got a Chow was way better than we expected. Everyone that works at this restaurant really cares about the food they serve. Our waitress told us that the first dish she tried made her want to work here. The coffee is superb, and the wellness drink was excellent. Oh, and did I mention we came two days in a row? Yes, we did. We ordered many things, and everything was so perfectly cooked, and flavored. The potatoes were so crispy, and well seasoned, the creamy polenta garlic-y delicious, the eggs so perfectly poached, the bacon... I could go on and on, but I won't. Long story short, we loved everything. Try the bacon lime French toast, it will blow your mind.

These guys have a very inventive menu. They strive to use local ingredients and do a great job. The food is often under seasoned for my taste. They have 3 homemade "hot sauces" that they describe as very hot, hot, and mild. If you really like hot sauce as I do you would likely describe them as warm, not hot and wimpy. Over all the food here is very good. But in recent years the service has gone way down. If the place gets half full the staff can't handle it and when they get full they fall to pieces. I used to be a regular, eating here at least a couple times a week. But I only go occasionally now as I find the service too frustrating.

Went here on a monday, the first week of september 2012. The building is actually a home that has been turned into a restaurant. So there are various spaces inside, all cozy rooms where you can sit. There is also a spacious patio outside and a beautiful garden to enjoy. We got here early as we heard it is a popular place. They seated us within 10 minutes of arrival. The large group of snobby Californians next to us were very loud and made their pretensions known. I overheard them saying something about a wedding, and commenting on the food "only in Oregon, ha ha ha." We didn't let that stop us from enjoying the food though. I am gluten free but was delightfully surprised at the options I had on the menu. The server was well versed in gluten free foods, so I had no hesitations when ordering. We had bloody mary's to start, I requested extra pickled items which was obliged. My husband I both thought they were quality drinks, and I liked the unusual pickles. We moved on to coffee for him and a chai latte for myself. I slurped the latte in less than 5 minutes, it was spiced and hot, perfect for the cool morning. Picky coffee drinking husband says their coffee is good too. Our food arrived withing 15 minutes, even with a crowded dining room at this point. It was hot and the portions were ample. I ordered "the ceasar" (2 Eggs, Corn Cake, Avocado, Roasted Green Chili Sauce, Hollandaise Sauce, Queso Fresco) and it was scrumptious. It was also very filling. I wish a breakfast place where I live would serve something like this. The only thing I didn't really enjoy were the cornmeal crusted tomatoes I ordered on the side. they were small, and lacked seasoning, maybe a little too crunchy. My husband is a corned beef hash aficionado, so that is what he ordered. It was chunky, definitely homemade and he said it was "great." Which is a good rating for him. We left stuffed and very pleased with the meal. We are fairly frugal but the money was well spent here. If we make it back to Bend I really hope this place is still here. I would not recommend this place for large groups of people. Anything over 6 people would just be pushing it in this space, especially in the cold weather season.

One of the best breakfasts I've had in a long time. My friends and I each got different things and I was able to try all of it! Everything was amazing! Their season french toast at the time was a rum custard with fruit - best french toast I've had. I ordered the chicken fried steak and it was delicious without making me feel too guilty. All of their ingredients taste really fresh. Plus we got to sit on an outdoor patio with live music playing in the background. What else can you ask for for a perfect breakfast. Definitely a must for breakfast in Bend.

Like a Taste of Heaven! My husband had the Country Fried Steak with Veggie Country Gravey - Outstanding! I had the Samson Eggs Benedict with cornmeal crusted tomatoes - fabulous! Our server Nicole was so friendly as were the others at CHOW. We're so glad to moving to Bend so we can visit often.

Great food but I need a good espresso with my breakfast. Only reason I didn't give them 5 stars.

My hubby, toddler and I went here over Thanksgiving weekend. I ignored the recent bad reviews because of the chicken fried steak on the menu. When we got there at 930a on Saturday morning we were told the wait would be 25 minutes. That turned out to be 45 minutes during which another family of three (mom, dad, toddler) walked in and were seated before us. The hostess never spoke to us the whole time we were waiting. Hubby ordered huevos rancheros because of the house made chili sauces. He wasn't offered any. I ordered the sautéed tofu for my baby and it came 10 minutes after our dishes. The food was okay. The experience was terrible. When we left at 11a the place was empty. Waiting 40 minutes for brunch in Bend OR is outrageous. Go to McKay Cottage Restaurant. We went there over the same weekend, were seated promptly and the food was just as good.

For some reason I never seem to drive to Bend for breakfast. I live in Redmond and as much as I love eating breakfast out and about, it just doesn't happen much. Boy, that is all changing right now. After being to Chow, the dry period is over. This place blew my mind, and my fiance agrees. We went on a Sunday at 10am. We did not have to wait long which was surprising. Some man asked us if it was our first time to Chow, we said yes, because we live in Redmond. He then asked us if we wanted to try the Bloody Mary and he came back with two decently sized samples. It was the best Bloody Mary I have ever had. Seriously. Plus it was around a 6 oz sample for each of us, no charge. That is how you take care of customers. Every item sounded amazing. I wanted one of everything. Many items included polenta or corn cakes. I thought this was a nice change of pace from the usual fixings. Our food was amazing. The Caesar was what my fiance ordered and I know I will get that next time. The two different sauces with eggs on a corn cake; it was just perfect. I loved the house made salsas they bring to the table. It was a very nice touch to the meal. I really cannot wait to return.

Stopped in here for breakfast on a Monday morning and had a fantastic meal! I love the garden out front and that they locally source as much as possible. Comfortable seating after only a short wait and coffee was plentiful (after being up at Crater Lake this was huge!). As for the food...I had the crispy polenta and poached eggs. Great flavor and the eggs were perfect. The side of bacon was crispy and everything bacon should be. My companion had the huevos which he liked but he liked the polenta better. If I find myself back in Bend I will make sure I find my way back to Chow!

Very disappointed. Went to Chow based on great Yelp reviews and have never been led farther astray. The potatoes were amazing but the biscuits and gravy as well as the chicken fried steak were basically inedible. If I ever were to send food back at a restaurant this would be the place. Instead try one of the other amazing breakfast places in Bend.

Locavore, do it, do it, do it! It's worth the market price! On Sunday, they had the red crab, asparagus omelette; with a choice of fried tomatoes or home fries, or polenta. I had to get the tomatoes...I rarely see that being an option for breakfast, even though I'm a huge potato fan too. It was delicious, fresh, great combination of flavors. I stole a bite of my husband's corned beef hash...yo, it's real beef (not from a can!) lol It was hearty...a pile of beef and potatoes, smothered with two eggs (any style you want 'em). And if you check in via Yelp, 2 free coffees! FTW! Service = friendly. It's high-energy and laid back here! Parking = street, or use their lot. I love the grounds of this place......homegrown goodness. And I especially love the CHOW sign made up from utensils.

This is a darling brunch spot. If I lived in Bend, this would probably be my go-to. Love the outdoor seating (they prefer not to seat people indoor bc of the heat). I had the crab cake sandwich which was pretty hard to beat. Also tried the French toast but it was not my fave (standard thick French bread with a hint of orange peel). Drinks were delicious...we had the grapefruit manmosa and the spicy Bloody Mary. Everything on the menu looked amazing!

I really can't do this place enough justice with a review, so I'll keep it short. We went here on a road trip through Oregon, and it was easily the best breakfast I've ever had. We had the Blackstone (Poached eggs, Corn Crusted Tomatoes, Spinach, Bacon, Béarnaise Sauce) and the Riccota French Toast (served with an amazing Apple butter sauce). The coffee was also great, and the service was A+ (our waitress even helped us with travel tips). The only bad part about this place is that it's so far away from home (SF).

CHOW was stellar -- Matt, our server was killer and our food came out lightening fast. The coffee service is very, very proactive. Which is legit. The Caesar was the best eggs Benedict adaptation I've had in a long time. Downside? Get here early though because the weight time is brutal.

This place is so amazing for brunch. Beautiful outdoor seating area/deck. BEST huevos rancheros I've ever had, and I've had a lotttt. Extremely accommodating and friendly staff. Went here with my boyfriend once while visiting my mom in Sisters but it will definitely be a staple of every visit from now on!

This place has very creative bunch menu. The atmosphere is cozy and staffs are friendly. The coffee was great and the wait was really short compare to other brunch places at Portland. The only negative part is that it took way too long for the waitress to get my order once I sat down. It may be that they were super busy but can't help to feel a little neglected. The food was great, I must admit they did great job on the food and very tasty. I certainly will be back here to try other thing next time I am in town. This place is worth a visit.

Not impressed. We went there and waited 2 hours to get a table because we told them we had a group of I think 8 people. They are not setup to accommodate big groups, they just have a bunch of small tables so if you have a group of 4 or less you should not have to wait too long. This is not your ordinary food, they try to make it different, to me this is just foo foo yuppie food. It is pricey and not very impressive. Everybody raves about this place but I doubt I'll go back any time soon. There are a lot of better places to eat breakfast in Bend. Heck I would have preferred IHOP to this place. The food is cheaper and IMHO better and they won't make you wait for a table.

We eat mostly Vegan and my wife is gluten free. Waitress was wonderful and talked with us for a while about our options. I got the vegan tofu veggie scramble and the vegan whole grain toast....fantastic and not too oily! The toast with their homemade jam was delicious. Be aware that if the weather is not sunny/dry, they end up with about an hour wait....outside opens up a bunch of seats. Oh, and the vegan scramble is listed only on the gluten free menu. Decor is tastefully funky - staff attitude is excellent.
