I've eaten here many times, and the food is consistently delicious. They have a lot of gluten-free menu options, which is perfect for my husband who is gluten intolerant. Our favorites at BTBS are: House-Smoked Chicken Wings (with Georgia Red BBQ Sauce); Roasted Potato Wedges; Sear-Marinated Lamb Platter; and Broken Top Nachos with Pulled Pork. BTBS has an excellent selection of gluten-free beer and cider - Walkabout, Red Tank and 2 Towns are great options. I love that BTBS has free live music every week. At their "Brews & Bands" I've seen everything from rock and folk music to Latin jazz. I highly recommend this restaurant. It's perfect when I'm in the mood for a casual atmosphere and food that tastes great. Since it is a self-service restaurant, I don't recommend it if you're looking for a full-service experience.

I honestly can not understand how this place gets 4 stars. I can only imagine that it's because if the huge beer selection. I know bend is pretty much obsessed with beer but I generally prefer whiskey or mixed drinks. So that being said, I'm basing my one star on the food and service alone because the beer selection is amazing. The food however is overpriced and pathetic!!! We went to their " taco night" . $12.00 (WTH?) for three of the most pathetic tacos I've ever seen. I wish I had taken a picture because they were basically lettuce filled tortillas. We also got some chips and salsa . Also gross and overpriced. I think it was 8 dollars for a tiny tub of salsa and some chips that tasted pasty and and bland. Oh , did I mention that it took them 35 minutes to make those three lettuce filled tortillas and find a hand full of chips to dump in a bowl?? Yeah, and there was only maybe 8 people in the place so they weren't swamped. Just lousy service. I could go on and on but no need. You will never see me or anyone of the 5 people I went with back there again. There's too many great places to eat in town to waste money here.

They have a great selection of refrigerated beers and there's also a restaurant attached. I picked up 6-7 beers to-go for $25, sweet deal!

A gluten free vegetarian, a vegan, and two "normal" vegetarians walk into a bar...hoping for something to eat. What we got was tasty goodness. We had all the vegetarian sandwich options, and they were all delicious. But, the veggie philly dip was outstanding. Well done Broken Top Bottle Shop. We're well fed and happy.

    1) $6 kids meal is way overpriced (super small) and the Mac n cheese was in such a hot bowl that I couldn't even dump the noodles onto another plate without burning my fingers. And the kids meal veggie sticks comes with blue cheese dipping sauce?? I'm not sure anyone working there has any kids. 2) every adult meal (4 total) came out wrong. The wrong sides, the wrong sauce and a gluten free flat bread that ran out of gluten free dough .... 3) poor service, rude person who delivered our food (not our actual server) 4) slow food delivery 5) if you order the side of veggies with your meal you get 2 carrot sticks and 2 celery sticks 6) and food quality has plummeted overall. Used to come here every time I came to bend (4-5 times per year); very disappointed this time.

Disappointed in the vegan food. I'm from the Portland area and I guess my standards are higher than simply accepting dry, flavorless food. My friends, who eat animals, got the chickens wings and apparently those weren't good either. Too bad, it otherwise seems like a pretty cool place and most brewpubs in Bend have laughable menus.

I live in Bend and we love to go out for great food. This is by far one of our top 5 spots in town. The food is always great and the service is good. Music and beer tastings are frequent, and always a nice addition to the meal. Jason is our favorite guy to see there, and he always makes us feel at home.

Best beer and vegan eats in Bend! Great menu with lots of vegan offerings making it easy by using the V designation on plant based offerings. The BBQ tempeh sando was phenomenal. Jason, the owner, is super friendly and goes out of his way to make sure you are having a great beer and dining experience. Awesome beer selection. Definitely a mandatory stop in Bend.

Yum! This place has the best tahini dressing and their veggie burger with Farro and black beans is a must try

This place is great! It has a huge bottled beer selection, and not just the usual ones you find at every convenience store and growler fill station. This place has a ton of hard to find beers as well as a lot of local brews. Another reason this place gets a 5 star is because of the staff. The guy that helped us carry our bottles and then checked us out was extremely friendly and very knowledgeable about the beer. We didn't eat so I can't comment on the food, but if it's half as good as the beer and service, it must be great!

  • Amelia S.

Dissappointed with the bottle selection, was expecting more like Whidbey Beer Works (Oak Harbor, WA), and The Beer Junction (Seattle, WA). This place is more like a small pub that has a bottle selection. Not worth the trip for someone just visiting Bend. I would suggest it to someone residing there though.

Ehhhh... Friend and I split a pretzel and romaine salad. It was alright. Not too great, but not incredibly overwhelming either. My main fuss is with the shaggy kid in the baseball hat at the counter that clearly hates his job and life. I'd consider a second visit, but only if he's not working.

This is a pretty cool spot to grab a beer at the bar, maybe a bite to eat, & then take some 22 ouncers home. One stop beer shop! The setup is a little bit strange. It looks more like a coffee shop than a bar/restaurant. One half of the space is for eating & drinking while the other half is for perusing the beer fridges. We stayed on the beer fridge side which had a huge selection of local craft beer. We decided that we needed to be drinking a beer while shopping, and the guy at the counter was happy to open us up a bottle to share. Take that, BevMo! The food looked delicious but we were only there to stock up on beer to take home. I got a nice box of assorted Oregon beer & left happy. Kid friendly too.

Came here on a Friday night and it was pretty busy. Friendly service! Just had a drink and listened for a bit to the live band that was playing. It was pretty cool that you could get a drink at the bar, or get a six pack or something out of the cooler -- plenty of selection here.

  • Ashley M.

Great food and beer options! They have an entire wall of fridges with beverages to choose from if you don't fancy the beer on tap. Lots of vegetarian options and great specials as well!

This place is rough. It could/should be so much better than it is, but it falls short of its potential in pretty much every area. The tap list and bottle selection are both pretty pedestrian, particularly for Bend standards. Not much offered here that you can't find at Newport Market, though they do have an impressive selection of Cascade's offerings. The tap list varies in quality, but rarely offers much that you are going to be super stoked to have found. The service in the restaurant is laughably bad, well it would be laughable of you weren't hungry. The servers have no idea how to navigate/manage a section. It's clear that there's no service standards established, as you're going to get asked for your order by two people after you've given it to a third and when your food comes, you'll likely be waiting for utensils/napkins/condiments for a while. The food used to be much better, but the new cook (I won't call anyone a chef if their restaurant doesn't have service standards) seemed intent on two things upon being hired: minimizing portion sizes and talking himself up (if you ever get caught in a conversation with him, fake a quick death unless you want to hear his resume and his high opinion of himself). The food has degenerated into bad bar food - dry wings, big buns trying to hide small protein on sandwiches, etc. I get that running a restaurant is hard work, but to have so many factors critical to your business' success be seemingly over-looked is inexcusable. I will go back for the beer but won't ever eat there again. Too many places who do a far better job than what BTBS tries to do.

Solid food and great beer! Met the owners Diana and Andy up at Bachelor and glad we did! They sold us on the food while we were chatting with them and it didn't disappoint! We got an order of their smoked pulled pork nachos, wings and the salmon sushi salad. Perfect late lunch after a day on the slopes. If you're in the area and want some good food, chill atmosphere and a pretty extensive selection of beers (tap and bottle)...check it out. Thanks guys!

Hands down the best mac n cheese I've found in Bend! They also have 50 cent wings every Sunday which we love. Also if you haven't tried it yet- definitely get the Nectar hibiscus mead!!! Yummmm

This place is ridiculously good! Most vegan/vegetarian places I've eaten at have been okay, but missing something. This place didn't miss a thing. We had buffalo soy curl sliders that were better than any buffalo chicken sandwich I've ever had. We also had the bbq tempeh sandwich which was as close to real bbq that I've had since becoming vegetarian. The house made blue cheese dressing for my veggie sticks was amazing. My wife had a Philly dip sandwich made with mushrooms that was equally amazing as the other sandwiches we ate. I'm not a fan of coleslaw, but their slaw was good too. This place made us happy, like smiling big dumb smiles that you can't stop smiling, happy. Plus they have 10 beers on tap and at least 100 bottles.

I love Broken Top! Their chicken wing on Sunday deal cannot be beat and they always have a wide variety of taps going! My only negative experience was ordering a soup that was served cold but I think it was fluke as its never happened again and hasn't stopped me from going back. I love bringing guests from out of town here as its always a hit! Already looking forward to returning!

Great neighborhood spot. Great salads, great dressings. The black bean hummus is delicious!!! I also highly recommend the ginger lemonade! Delicious. Service is always friendly and all three times I've been there the waitresses and bartender were attentive and generally awesome. They have also great vegan and gluten free options (I am neither vegan nor gluten sensitive, but I like having options). I don't really drink, but they have a huge beer and beverage selection as well. They are also environmentally conscious, they compost all leftovers, etc. Clean bathrooms. Overall I love this place. (My brother does not recommend the tamale pie)

Love the food and beverages. The vegetarian dishes are fantastic as are the smoked chicken wings. Haven't been in awhile though, as the service was hit or miss .

What a gem! Conveniently located off of Portland and at the base of the hill up to COCC this place should attract both neighbors and college kids. Divided into two sections there is something for everyone. The left side is a hang out room with a wall of frigs stocking every beer and cider imaginable. There are comfy couches and tables to sit and enjoy your beer and food. On the right side as you enter is the bar and tables for service. We sat in the bar. The beer list is extensive as expected and the food was yummy. We got a half cheese plate to start which was plenty for the two of us. The chef brought it out and explained each cheese and the accompaniments. He was very knowledgeable and proud of his work. I got the tuna melt and loved that the bread was soaked in butter. Just a nice crunch. We will be back. Great neighborhood spot to eat and then pick up some unique beer to sample at home!!

I wish I could say I love it. We eat here about once a month, only because our daughter is vegan. There are multiple vegi/vegan options on sandwiches, which only this place has in Bend. However, these sandwiches are on the dry and bland side. They should take each one and add something flavorful like a sauce AND tomato slices or avocado or something fresh. Especially because these sandwiches are like $11-$13 a peice. Its more like just eating fake meat on bread. The salads are wonderful, unique and yummy. They tie with Barrio for best salad in Bend. It is also great to have a hundred beers to choose from. The really unfortunate thing about dining here is that you never know what you are going to get in terms of service. Sometimes its pretty good (never great) but more often it is not good and sometimes it is Horrible! You might get your food in 20 minutes, or it could take an hour. Your server might be kind of nice or you might pray you never see their frownie face again. The young petite girl is one of the worst waitresses I have ever had. She messed up our order, tried to make us feel bad about it, charged us for the food we didnt order which was more expensive, and said she couldnt change it because of the computer program. Also she is always stressed out and frowning, dropping stuff on the floor, eThe very best vegi/vegan sandwich in Bend is at Cafe Yum and is the tempeh reuben. It has lots of onion, saurcraut, and yummy sauce.

Came here for the first time this past weekend. Food was delicious, but service was terrible. I couldn't believe that lunch for 2 cost us $37, which comes down to a misunderstanding of the menu prices and the server not clarifying which size we wanted when there are two options (and two prices) on the menu. Im vegetarian and was looking forward to the food since there were so many great reviews, unfortunately the service makes me not want to return. The husband had hot wings which were 50 cents on Sunday and he did enjoy those.

Rumor has it that the wait staff at this establishment is consistently rude, slow service, and lots of frowns. Owners ruder. I received that first hand. Slow service with a attitude . Food was 45 minute late. Ordered the Burger, dry, salty , tasted as if it came out of a can. My friend ordered the Beet Salad. good, but they forgot the goat cheese and walnuts. Where's the passion here!

    (1)
  • Stephanie S.

Not a fan for 3 reasons. 1. Rude service my husband received 2. Overpriced $4.50 for a plain pretzel to go 3. Counter girl gave herself a tip (charging our card and extra $1) $5.50 for craptacular service and a not so good pretzel = us not going back

This place is great! The service was awesome and the food was even better! I had the BBQ tempeh sandwich (vegan) and it was absolutely delicious! The brussels sprouts were yummy, too. Everyone, from my 1 1/2 year old niece to my 85 year old grandparents, enjoyed their food.

Although reluctant to assign only three stars to new local places in search of an audience, three IS "AOK" after all. Based on a first visit, "AOK" and hopeful for "yay!"as new biz kinks work out. BOTTOM LINE: Good enough if we're in the area. With a lot of casual food places in a similar price point in this Bend Westside locale, this is one we'll amble back to eventually but not a place we'll rush back to soon. BOTTLE SHOP: The Bottle Shop portion of this endeavor is not yet up and running. It will offer both beer and wine. Although there are already a plethora of places in Bend to buy both, we'll look forward to this bottle shop opening too. It is ALE CAFÉ experience reviewed here where our lunch time visit revealed some hits and some misses. SERVICE: Cordial and tableside. (No need to stand in line at the bar to order.) MENU: Broad and interesting for pub style food. Several vegetarian options, a few that are vegan and many for omnivores. Some gluten gree options too, something I notice since I have family members who are gluten intolerant. Daily specials are on a chalkboard. Some ingredients are called out specifically as being from local vendors - as in the Cada Dia cheese used in some entrees and the Bonta gelato on the dessert menu. Nice. FOOD & VALUE: Good enough flavors but some execution details need better attention based on our lunch. Prices are on par with other casual West Side sit down eateries like Brother Jon's Public House, Brother Jon's Alehouse, Good Life Bierhall, Boken and Barrio or food trailers Red Napkin, Real Food Street Bistro and Spork. The Ale Cafe has a lot of good competition from those other places for the same audience of diners. And some of that competition is creating very good food. Two of us shared a BLTA sandwich ($9). Sandwiches come with chips or salad or for a buck extra, you can have a cup of mac n'cheese. We choose the latter; a great value deal. The generously sized sandwich was on toasted bread. Thanks to TJH's review we asked for the homemade aioli to be applied with a light hand and it was. Overall an OK sandwich - the aioli was tasty and the bacon was plentiful but the iceberg lettuce was in too big a "hunk" and the tomatoes were too few and thin and under-ripe. Details make the whole and this is an example of food execution details, even in simple things, that need attention. The mac n cheese was good save for one execution flaw. The well seasoned white cheese sauce was a just right amount and the smoked roasted tomatoes and bread crumbs on top were a nice touch. But the penne that was the mac part had been way overcooked to smithereens. An important detail to get wrong. AMBIANCE: Nice blues and mellow rock mix on the sound system on the day we were there. I'm not sure how much of the dark red décor is new or leftover from the Abbey Pub days, which is what this was until recent ownership change. SEATING: "...a memorable experience for people of all ages..." is the goal of the four nice people who collectively own this enterprise as stated on a note on each table. If that is their goal then the seating here presents a challenge in reaching it for some of the "...all ages". The not so good thing here was awkward seating. All but eight seats, two tables of four, were high seating / bar table and stool height. The limited table height seating is at the worst location in the restaurant, right as you come in the drafty door. I imagine the parents with the small child who were using one of those tables, given bar height seating doesn't safely work for small kids, weren't thinking this was the "...memorable experience" the owners had in mind each time that door opened to blast the table with cold air. Not only parents with small children, but some senior citizens (in the lexicon of many 60+), and people with mobility disabilities (whether permanent or temporary), who can't use bar height seating at most of the tables. At the bar, I get it. But it's puzzling how restaurants think the high perch tables and stools are welcoming and comfortable to be the main seating source on floor. ACCESSIBILITY: Level in and all on one level. NOTE: Outdoor seating on the walkway at front and side of the building and proximity to Central Oregon Community College should help them in summer months.

For those of us that arent vegan and know what good food tastes like, steer clear from this place. Tried it twice and both times it was gross the second was comparable to dog food. Got an over priced lamb wrap and walked away with a sick stomach and a lighter wallet. Service was alright and the patio is nice. Food, garbage. Maybe if ur a vegan ull enjoy the black bean burger... lmao.

Love this place, their food is amazing and beer selection is unmatched. My girlfriend and I went there after a hike so we had an appetite, and we shared the roasted brussel sprouts and purple potato wedges and they were just so flavorful neither of them needed a dipping sauce or salt. I am usually not a fan of brussel sprouts but that is because I never had them cooked right! Now every time we go back we have to get them. I have only gotten the Caesar salad with salmon there because its so dang good, but everything else on the menu looks amazing. Oh and I tried 1 pork slider that was very good, excited to try their wings and burger. The live music was nice to listen to while at the bar, and it was not intrusive or too loud. Can't wait to go back!

We didn't eat here, so this review is for the bottle shop only. Hubby and I stopped by on our way out of town, heading back to Seattle. Being from the big city, we frequent a few bottle shops, and have run into some lackluster customer services. Namely, plenty of bottle shop employee have a chip on their shoulders and a "holier-than-thou" attitude about helping out a craft beer fan. Not here. We were exploring the options, and got to meet Jason, a kind fella who was happy to answer our questions and even let us purchase a couple of bottles that weren't out for sale just yet. He made excellent recommendations on new beers, let us buy some favorites (OMG! Russian River!), and was kind and polite the whole time. Did we spend $80 on 7 beers? Well, yes. Did we get what we wanted? Heck yes we did. It's not cheap, but quality beer isn't. We had a great experience! Highly recommend.

We had a good meal - Black bean burger with a Roasted beet side salad. All excellent. Service was only so-so, especially for mid afternoon. The brew selection on tap had something for all tastes in spite of only 12 taps, but not so good for us IPA lovers with only 1. May or may not return.

Very vegetarian friendly! The vegetarian Philly dip is awesome with big slices of marinated portabella mushrooms and lots of garlic (I like it that way!). I've been back twice, and now I'm ruined for anything else on the menu (it all looks good, but I CRAVED that veggie dip after trying it the first time!). They also have a great selection of beers from all over the country. I don't like overly hoppy beer, but BTBS's excellent variety on tap means there's something for everyone.

I have been to BTBS a few times now and sadly I think that's it for me. The Good: Their beer choices are pretty good, including some unusual ones. They have a lot of vegan and GF options. (Which are why I suspect their ratings are as good as they are. The outside seating is nice. The Not Good: The food. I'm sorry, I'm just not very impressed. With all the other glowing reviews I expected to be anxious to devour all that I could find. But, other than the flatbreads, which were just ok, the warm food I've had seems like it was reheated and then dressed up a little. The salad was ok, but I had hoped for something fresher and hopefully comparable to Jackson's Corner. Their wine list was also a lot simpler than I expected. I know they focus on beer but the name made me think other bottles might be honored a bit better. I have not had a sandwich, but they have a little potential.

This is such a great place to eat and hang out. We went in to have a bite and found they have an AMAZING vegetarian menu. We have gone back a few times and had great service. The food is consistently fresh with good specials! We will continue to go back and check out all of the great events they have coming up over the summer. I love the rotating drafts and nightly specials. Thursday Taco are a great deal. Plus the atmosphere is fun and always has a good game on to watch. I would bring anyone by the Broken Top Bottle Shop who wants a full menu of choices and young fun place to chill.

I liked this place. The ambiance IS a little weird, and it feels like they've got some things to get sorted out, but I think it will happen. The food shows attention to detail, and it seems like they try to change it up enough to keep people coming back. There are tons of vegan/vegetarian options (half of the sandwich menu is meat free) and all of their desserts are gluten-free. We tried a little bit of everything, down to getting a beer sampler instead of glasses. I would say everything was delicious, except for the mac'n'cheese. We actually left it uneaten. We shared a bananas foster dessert, and holy cow is that good. Seriously, get it. It's amazin'. The service was good. He didn't just take our order and never come back. He was back regularly to check on our meal. So they are trying to put on an emphasis on the restaurant side of things, which is great. When he saw that we pretty much hadn't touched the mac'n'cheese he asked us if it was okay and when I said it was really bland he was not upset or rude about it at all. OH, and the best part of this vs. some of the other local pubs that have good food; most of the ones with good food are breweries that only serve their own beer. Here, they have kinds from all over Oregon and the country, and they change them up. That alone is worth going back for.

It was fun to check out the vast selections of beer, ciders and mead but the "Gluten Free" menu always makes my celiac husband very, very ill. Beware that you will not be safe eating their food if you are even a little sensitive to gluten. We would love to go back but not worth it since we can't eat there together.

  • Sara And Mark Q.

The specials change everyday and there is always something delicious. Some favorites from the regular menu: Vegan Club, Mac & Cheese, Edamame, and, of course, the Pretzel. The tap list usually has some lovely surprises but even if you can't find something intriguing there, there's always the impressive bottle selection in the coolers. A few months after they opened in February of 2012, they expanded into a second room where they often have live music, group reservations, and even special themed dinners. The owners are friendly, helpful, and very responsive. The atmosphere on a typical evening is a casual, lively, neighborhood watering hole. There is seating outside on both the sunny south side and the shady east side, if you need a break from the sun for a spell. This is one of our very favorite spots in Bend.

Wonderful St. Pat's Day dinner at the Broken Top Bottle Shop! Great selection of beer and cider on tap! The food was outstanding! We shared the Irish Beef stew - great broth, generous portion. I had the Kale Wasabi Salmon salad - outstanding! My husband had a burger and excellent cole slaw! A new favorite in Bend!

I went here and had the Tahini Garlic Smoked Wings. They were OK flavor wise, but the garlic sauce was very oily and the wings were really tough on the outside (maybe over smoked a bit) making them difficult to eat. Later that day, I got a spell of upset stomach and that may have just been my reaction. The beer on tap is a good selection. They have tons of bottles and some that are hard to find, but all of the bottles average about a dollar more than you find just about anywhere else. The location is quaint and roomy. I will likely try them again and order something else on the menu. Depending on how it is, I will adjust my rating. At the very least, good place for a beer on tap and a conversation with friends.

This wonderful beer bar is at the bottom of the hill I live on and is a quick walk from Central Oregon Community College. No need to repeat what's been said in the dozens of other great reviews, but the highlights of BTBS are: 1. The crew. Jason and Andy have been rockin' this place since day one. They remember everyone's name, which is amazing since they shake hands with all who walk through the door. 2. The beer selection. BTBS brings in just as many, if not more, brewers, brewery reps, and tasting events than Platypus Pub across town. The tap list is always top notch and changing weekly. They are one of the only places in town that has nitro and the occasional firkin. And the bottle selection is excellent, with every single bottle in a cooler, and 22oz, cans, mead, and cider available. My goal when visiting is not usually food, but I have never been disappointed and never wait for long. I hold tasting events here and all of my guests have been happy with the food they have ordered.

BTBS might deserve another star on a different night. They get 5 stars for having delicious vegan rice bowl and salad options and the IPA was very good too. The Friday night crowd was an interesting mix of students, locals, ski patrons and assorted others. It was packed, loud and the staff was a little overmatched. The haphazard seat yourself, put your name in, grab a seat at the bar, or wait, we'll recognize you and get you a table, the wait may be 30 min. or more, not sure how many are ahead of you...really? The knot of people standing at the door and next to tables near the door was uncomfortable. I'd try it again and be better prepared.

Waited at the counter for 10 minutes. An employee said it will be a minute. We waited and waited. Other people were also in line and highly annoyed. We walked out and the man came out and told us to call in our order next time...not a problem because there will not be a next time. I shouldn't have to beg someone to take my order and money. There are other breweries and restaurants in town.

I would give this restaurant ten stars if I could. Bend is full of bread heavy menus, it can be really frustrating and difficult to find healthy, delicious options in most restaurants. But Broken Top is different. They have made a serious effort to offer really good food for those who want to eat gluten or dairy or meat free. I can honestly say every meal I have had at BTBS has left me going wow, that was really, really good!! I have eaten there quite a few times - with my husband, with 12 journalists visiting Bend, with friends - and every time everyone else has walked out of the restaurant saying it was one of the best meals they had in long time. As owner of the local mountain bike tour company I also recommend eating here to many of our guests. The beer selection is great too, what is on draft and the options in the wall to wall beer fridge. The restaurant is owned by locals who are working hard to create the type of place everyone is welcome in and is fun to visit.

Great beer selection and interesting menu. Not sure if this is an easy fix, but I'd recommend lowering the bar lighting a bit. Little change like that can "warm up" the overall vibe.

The best soft pretzel in town. The nicest owners - Jennifer, Jason and Andy -- and staff. Interesting, innovative and changing menu. The beet salad is delicious and the Cherry Chocolate Rain cheesecake is incredible. The rotating taps list is always fun with a great variety for not only every palate but a pairing option for anything on the menu including the cheesecake! While the list always has some local beers, there are always options from across the US. As a local, it's nice to try beers from outside the area. People take children but this is really your local neighborhood pub. They have a nice space over on the beer cooler side of the building that is good for groups but only with advance notice.

Good food, so-so service, ecletic tap selection. $5 for a draft? Really? Got the black bean hummus for an appetizer. Came out quickly and was dense and smooth served with tiny pita chips and some veggies. Had the beet salad and pesto veggie sandwich. Both were delicious. Had two oatmeal stouts on nitro which while delicous, $10 was nearly half my bill. I'll go for the $2.25 PBR next time! Server was trippin'! He broke a pint glass right between us as I was going to the restroom. The expo bailed him out by bringning our food. $5 a pint, really? How about at least doing an Imperial pint for that much.

Vegan food options are always a plus in my book and the beer selection was pretty good. Don't think I've ever had Old Rasputin on nitro before. It was great! and i'm sure the 6 bucks was because of the nitro, but it came out in a pint glass which is larger than what i'm used to seeing Old R. Typically it's in a smaller snifter so that was cool. We made the mistake of sitting only two tables away from a foosball table that was not being used when we walked in, but about 10 minutes later we were yelling at each other over the boisterous game being played. recommend sitting on the other side if you want to have a normal conversation. The server, a Johnny Depp lookalike was not very friendly and had me thinking the whole time: "What is eating Gilbert Grape!?" We will probably try it again but this experience was a bit underwhelming.

This has to be the last consistent place in town. I really want to be a fan of BTSB, but I always feel like I'm gambling going there. Sometimes the food and service is excellent and sometimes the food is laughably undersized and the staff checked out.

I moved to Bend about a year ago. BTBS is my favorite restaurant in town. I've lost count of how many times I've been. What I love about their food is that it is consistently good. I've ordered off the main menu and off the specials menu. I'm constantly impressed with how good the specials are. The one thing I don't like is the pretzel - but seriously, everything else has been great. Beer choices are also good - lot's of local options with some out of town options usually mixed in. I don't find the beer prices much more than prices at the breweries around town - not PBR prices, but doesn't taste like PBR either! Staff is great - always friendly! I highly recommend giving this place a try if you haven't been yet!

All serious beer drinkers need to visit the Broken Top Bottle Shop. They call themselves a "Beer Hub" which is an accurate description. They don't brew their own beer here, they simply carry an incredible selection. You will also find some great varieties on tap here, like the St. Bernardus ABT 12. Half of the establishment is a bar and sitting area, the other half is a huge cooler packed to the gills with seriously awesome and unusual craft and Belgian beers. You can belly up to the bar to order something on tap or you can go pick something from the cooler to try. The beer is also available for purchase to carry out. If you're not a beer drinker, don't fret, they carry wine and hard ciders too. To top it all off, the food here is excellent (they have an actual chef) and the staff is super friendly. While the shop is a little off the beaten path and more of a pub for locals, it's well worth seeking out when in Bend for a great meal and some great beer. 4 stars only because the ambiance could use a little work, but the beer options are 5 star all the way!

At the recommendation of our server, I had the veggie Philly dip (no cheese, since I'm vegan). It was incredible. The side of mashed potatoes and mushroom gravy were amazing as well. I never thought I'd find something that tops my favorite vegan cafe in Los Angeles, but this just might do it.

Thank the Universe for a VEGAN place to eat whilst vacationing in Central Oregon. Between Whole Foods Market in store Buffet and the BTBS, I didn't starve. Very good food, decent prices, not the least bit pretentious and stuffy. Love it. Makes me think I might vacation in Oregon again someday.... THANK YOU!

Killer place! Love this model of bottle shop and tap room! Great beer variety and room for more. Food is awesome!!! Only reason I gave 4 stars is the tap line-up is a little light. Would go again for sure. If you are vegan, go here!!!

Poor selection, poor service, overpriced beer, and you have to take the bottle up to the counter to find out how much you are going to be gouged for. PASS.

The Proverbial Straw that Broke the Camels Back! I am a huge fan of bars/pubs/Restaurants that are trend setting, as long as the trend is a good one. Many people may have noticed that the price of going out in Bend has crept up slowly making nights out harder and harder on the working class. BTBS seems to want to make that even harder. The cost of beer has continued to incrementally go up over the years, as has the quality in my opinion, but it has, as least in Bend, refused to go over the magical five dollar mark. BTBS has appeared to throw caution to the wind and set the trend in Bend for breaking that $5 mark. Yes I know, it is only a couple of quarters more but, to me, it is the straw that broke the camel's back. I also know that there are a few others in town who are breaking the $5 barrier, but places like Crux and a few others have put a lot of money into their breweries, BTBS bought a foosball table. I may have kept my mouth shut and not written this review if the beer were the only place that BTBS tries to high gross their patrons. Don't be fooled by the cheap paper menus. The cost they are saving on the menus is not passed on to the consumer. The other day I had a tuna melt for $10. The side was some vegetables or, for $2 more, you can have a very small dish of mashed potatoes. I am not just bitching about price, if the food quality warranted the cost, I would pay it. The tuna melt was average at best. (The side, although small, was awesome) Talking price: because I have not ordered the item, the burrito. $10. This is just a big burrito. If you want a few pieces of meat in that it will be 40 percent more. 50 percent more if your meat of choice is fish. $14/$15 for a meat burrito? La Rosa, said to be the best Mexican in town, is not even that crazy and theirs comes with rice, beans and chips and salsa. Don't get me wrong. I am all about the free market. BTBS can charge whatever they want. If you, the customer, are willing to pay they will survive. If not you may decide to go to one of the many other fine Bend establishments and they will not. Q.) How do you boil a frog? A.) Slowly. If you turn up the heat too fast the frog leaps. This frog has jumped.

This place rocks!! We went here the other day for some live music. They had a local solo artist playing that night and he was really awesome. They have a pretty decent tap selection, mostly local beers and a really great bottle selection from all over the place really. We ended up staying a little longer than expected cause the band was so good and got some of their food. Ended up getting the Steelhead/Veggie burrito which was one of our best meals in Bend. I'll be back.

Had lunch at the Broken Top Bottle Shop and Ale Cafe on a visit to Bend to see my wife's nearly two month old grand daughter. This a nice place and we both enjoyed our lunches. Good selection of beers on draught and a humongous selection in bottles. Almost warm enough to sit outside, we chose inside at a nice sunny table. The sandwiches are good sized, wished we had chosen to share one! Highly recommend it!

Ahh, the Broken Top Bottle Shop. This is the hole in the wall that Bend needed. It's extremely tough to be vegan and have options to go out in this town, and the BTBS is finally the place to satisfy my cravings. They some of the best falafal I've ever had, the portions are huge, and the staff are super nice and friendly. I love the fact that their beer selection is always changing and they don't seem to over charge. I've already been there 3-4 times in a month and plan to keep going back!

My wife and I read a postive review of this place in Go Magazine (the Bend Bulletin). We enjoyed a lunch, thoroughly. Long list of beers on tap, over a hundred bottled beers in the adjoining bottle shop. The servers were young, enthusiastic, knowledgeable, and quite attentive. I had a remarkable mixed green/roasted beet salad with smoked steelhead: YUM! The Irish style stout beer that I had, though brewed in the Northwest, was every bit as good as Murphys Stout that I had in pubs in Ireland. My wife had a chicken Caesar salad, which she rated as far above average. Decor was appealing, though we ate outside, as the day was beautiful. Good food, good beer, good folks running the place: we'll be back.

I love this place! The owner is very friendly and remembered us after only one visit. The vegan options are great! It quickly has become my go-to place for a quick bite and beer.

This is our "local", being just a short stroll from the house. We've been there four times now and, despite a somewhat shaky start on the first visit, it's steadily improved. The multiple owners are great to chat with and very knowledgeable about their excellent and ever changing beer selection. The food is fine, not great, but a cut above standard pub fare (Silver Moon), and it seems to be getting better. With a little improvement in the food and perhaps a little more attentive service, this place could be a solid player in Bend's pantheon of great beer-centric restaurants.

The food here is defiantly a step up from other pub food. I have not had a dish here that I did not enjoy. We usually order from the daily menu. Very good beer selection that seems to change every time a keg goes dry. The one big negative is price. Beer prices range from $5 to $8 a glass and often the glass is 8 to 10 oz.

This place is one of Bend's hidden gems! The food options are diverse and delicious and the beer menu beats any of the already great selections available elsewhere in town. Staff is very friendly and aim to please. Highly suggest this place!!

An update regarding the food being salty. I've since been back many times and this hasn't been an issue - I think this was a fluke.

There are plenty of awesome "pub food" establishments in Bend. For those of us that like to enjoy some vegetarian or vegan food, this is your place. The portabello french dip sandwich is amazing. Caesar salad, mashed pots with mushroom gravy, and on and on. Great daily specials menu that is constantly changing. Beer? Heck yeah they have beer and a great selection to boot. Yes, I did just type "to boot."

Great draft beer menu including cider and wheat wine! Refreshing change from the average IPA heavy menu. Food Menu was fun with veggie options including tempeh Ruben. Wont repeat the special Rueben flatbread but want to try the shrimp tacos next time. Went back again a few nights later and had anothe good meal inxluding the best chicken wings and French dip we've ever had. Both had a smokey flavor. Both were different than their typical counterparts but a pleasant surprise. The special flatbread was not bad. I wish the fresh mushrooms had been showcased instead of the generous amount of cheese that his them. The tempeh reuben was good but was missing alittle something that I can only describe as snap. Maybe a marinade for the Tempeh. All in all another good experience and affordable to boot!

If you're looking for salty, greasy pub food chased down with cheap tasteless beer....this is not your place. Sophisticated soups, sandwiches, and other offerings with local and regional craft beers are what they do. Awesome food. A little salty, but I suspect that's to be expected at a drinking establishment. My favorite pub in bend.

My band came out from Salem to BTBS to play. They went totally 110% for us in terms of our professional music needs, which would have been great all by itself... but on TOP of that, the food is FANTASTIC! Big tender ribs that they smoke on site, delicious, well-balanced flavors... I had the pulled pork sandwich that was probably the best I've ever eaten. It was tender and moist, and topped with some kind of pineapple chutney that was perfect. Our violin player had a Reuben sandwich that looked amazing and he gobbled it up so fast I didn't even get a chance to mooch a bite. They have a HUGE collection of local beers on tap and in bottles--it's like going to all your favorite microbreweries at once. We can't wait to come back!

If you are a vegetarian/vegan, get your ass over here. This place is amazing. First off, they have an awesome laid back vibe- like your local bar but not dirty. Plus, a great beer shop with a huge selection on one half of the space. Waiters are a bit disorganized at times, but friendly and helpful, and know their beer. The veggie tempeh rueben was mind-blowing... marinated tempeh with a smoky sauce, carmelized onions, delicious white cheese (prov?), all on toasted thick pieces of artisan (wheat?) bread. The veggie tamale pot pie was amazing too... I don't normally like tamales, but these were fantastic, blue corn, with lots of veggies, delicious mole-like sauce... I almost died. The coleslaw is different and better than most, but I still just don't like coleslaw. The Sisters Brewing beer that they had on tap--- I wish I remembered what it was--- kind of dark, freaking amazing... I will be drooling over the memory of this dinner for years to come. $10 and $11 for rueben and tamales, beer around $5 for pint.

My husband and I were visiting Bend from LA and decided to try out this restaurant. I had a beautiful salad with steelhead salmon - it truly was one of the most tastiest salads I ever had. The service was excellent - it was a Sunday evening and there was a band playing. A lovely atmosphere. Anyhow, I highly recommend this restaurant for someone who is a foodie just like me:) By the way, they also have an impressive range of beers.

I eat at Broken Top Bottle Shop about twice a week, usually ordering from the daily specials menu. I could eat here every day and not get tired of the food! This is the only restaurant in town that goes out of its way to accommodate vegans -- the vegan options are so good that my meat-eating husband often orders them. Love the owners and the locals' feel of BTBS. Come for the beer but stay for the inventive, fresh, consistently yummy food!

Came here twice for lunch during our one week visit to Bend. Both times my husband and I ordered the meditereanean falafel wrap and beet salad along with the "Blonde" beer. I am not a beer drinker and LOVED this beer, so much that I stopped by Newport Market and picked up a 6-pack for dinner. Plus, the staff was very friendly. We will be back the next time we are in Bend.

I have found my new hangout in Bend. The BTBS has a great beer selection and super food. The decor is beautiful. I wish they would play more Allman Brothers, but the music is still good!!

This is the best bar food in town. Actually, it's some of the best food anywhere in Bend, bar or restaurant. The menu has something for everyone (including vegans, and it's real food -- not just salads!). Very laid-back, friendly atmosphere. At first, we felt the service was slow, but now we realize it's because they want everyone to relax and not feel rushed. They actually want you to stick around and chat. A huge beer selection (bottled and tap) that's still growing as they expand into their new space. We come here just for the food (we're not beer drinkers), that's how good it is!
