When u have the need and u want it with speed, Sushi Boat Beaverton is a good place to drop anchor. I really like casting out to grab a salmon or tuna of fair quality. There is something to said for the bubbles that follow the little conveyor boats. Reminds me of " Finding Nemo". Say; why doesn't anybody have a NEMO ROLL? Why not imitation fish is like cartoon food. I'll bet it would be a big hit with the kids. If you go to Sushi Boat expecting fast, cheap and OK quality sushi, you probably won't rock your boat to much. Let me know if you want in on the Nemo Roll!

This sushi was just terrible. Not only did it not taste fresh, we only got 4-5 plates and it was like $30 some how. What in the world! Not to mention, the sushi is sitting in the middle of the prep area with covers on it for what seems like 15-20 mins at a time. My boyfriend someone managed to grab a California roll with the regular 4-5 pieces on it (this was a white square plate, where the sushi looked fresher than the rest) come to find out that plate was $6!!! Not impressed, I will not be back.

Just didn't seem fresh, the choices were limited, we and two others were the only patrons and we still got minimal service (refills on drinks, etc). The place just doesn't hold a candle to a vast majority of sushi rivers that I've watched pass by. The owner needs to see that the clientele in the area expect more from a sushi place than they are providing. There is far too much competition in the Tigard/Beaverton area to be complacent about quality and service so maybe some feedback from helpful Yelpers will be heeded (maybe?). I wish it was tastier since it's so close to my home.

Went in during lunch hour and the place was almost empty. This should have tipped me off. Well the bad reviews should have warned me. I sat down at the bar & ordered 2 orders of salmon sashimi (4 pieces ea order) & 1 salmon crispy skin hand roll. The salmon sashimi was partially frozen and the salmon skin was mushy due to all the teriyaki sauce put in the roll:( This terrible lunch cost me $14.50. I will not return. One star for the 1 waiter that was pleasant.

This place is right down the street from my house; which is convenient. The last time I went I sat in the corner near the back kitchen area. Most of these places have color coded lids so that they can discard items that have been out for so many hours. I sat and watched the cook merely switching the lids on the old items. That is disappointing. I have been going to Hana sushi down the street on Hall ever since. I am not going to say that I won't go back due to the convenience, but I would probably go at a busier time when more patrons are present and eating up all the old stuff!

I love revolving sushi! Reminds me of Tokyo, and the ngiri was good and CHEAP!! The hot sake was also tasty. We happened upon this place after hitting the liquor store before the movies at Cinetopia and would definitely come back for an inexpensive, but tasty sushi experience. It is best for simple ngiri.

I love Sushi, and it's exciting to try new places. After eating at this restaraunt, I don't know that I will want to go anyplace else. The only complaint that I have is that they aren't closer to my home. The food was fresh. There was a great variety. Everything tasted wonderful. The prices were low. I wish that they were located in downtown Hillsboro, since I only live three blocks away, I would be there every night.

I take my 3 year old daughter here because she loves the sushi floating by on boats. They do take good care of the water & the canal. I'm not a super adventurous sushi eater, I'm more about crab salad, tempura shrimp, mostly anything cooked. Sad, I know. This is a good place to introduce kids to sushi though! They have a plate that has crab salad, avocado & rice in egg wrap instead of seaweed. That is my daughter's jam! And she loves the simple oranges cut up with a cherry on top. I usually get the simple crab salad with rice in seaweed wrap. All those plates are just $1.00 each. Sometimes I splurge & spend $2.00 on a baked shrimp plate that comes with 2 pieces. The chefs are very polite. All the servers are very sweet. This isn't a fine dining spot by any means, but what do you expect when a place has a sign in the window saying "plates start at just $1.00" ? I love taking my daughter here for a quick, simple, cheap, healthier meal/snack. Like I said, I think it can be a great place to introduce kids to sushi! But if you're a sushi expert, might wanna pass.

I live close by and find myself going for healthy and tasty sushi at Sushi Boat quite often. It is a local favorite of my 11 year old son. We enjoy sitting at the rotating sushi bar and helping ourselves as well as ordering from the menu. The employees are friendly and helpful.

I definitely appreciate their unique take on the conveyor belt including boats, though their sushi was nothing spectacular. The quality is good, and its not too expensive or anything, but it didn't wow me. I would still stop by or recommend it to anyone if we were in the area, but this probably wouldn't be a destination for me on its own.

I give this place 4 stars because of the little better quality of salmon than sushi hana. I like it how sushi boat doesn't have that machine to round up rice they actually do it by hand. I love the environment and the service was friendly. The boat in the water is kind of a nuisance but overall was good ^^

Worst sushi ever! It was warm, bland and all the rolls tasted like lemons. I was sick for hours after eating here! Save your money and your stomach!

Back in the day, when this place opened, I ate here several times a week for years. Hubby and I loved their Sushi, when the owner sold the place, things began to slide. The slide in fact was so severe we stopped coming for several years. We have been back once or twice in the last year and a half and were not impressed. Last weekend, we had a large breakfast and wanted something very small for lunch. We were in the Neighborhood and decided to stop by. Nothing has changed, same guy making Sushi, same boats going around and around. He still recognizes me to this day to he got busy making my favorites. I don't eat uncooked food. My husband on the other hand, loves all that raw fish and other stuff, YUCK. We had some Miso and a few plates each. Later at home hubby started to feel awful, by the next day, he was even worse, cramps, nausea and a few other things I won't mention. That is all I will say about that. End of story is that we probably will not visit them any longer. p.s. the service was just OK, nothing special, the girls seemed more interested in talking to each other than anything else.

Surroundings: Came in between lunch and dinner. 90s music playing. Four other diners. Well-lit. Clean. Two sushi guys chatting casually with two areas in the middle stacked full of pre-prepped sushi that they would occasionally use to fill in empty spots on the boat line. Service: The two women were attentive and checked on us twice after getting our drinks. Friendly. Sushi guys were not interacted with though they seemed ready to take an order when given by other patrons. Food: Lackluster taste and quality even for track sushi. The best part was the sushi rice used. You could actually taste the rice vinegar and was better shaped (less sloppily made and pieces held together well) than other places I've been to. Price: Very reasonable. Max was a $6 plate. The $6 plate was the only one that had any flavor though. TL; DR: While the service and price were good, the sushi looked prepped hours ahead of time before hitting the boat line and tasted that way. Wasn't a terrible experience but I will not be going back.

Used to be better. Same as other reviewers, I feel like this place has gone downhill. Usually the place is pretty empty, which has always made me wonder about the freshness of the sushi on the belt. Another downside of lack of customers is lack of variety. When they are slow, they usually have only a few types of sushi on the belt. Yes, you can order something that is not on the belt, but I am one of those people who like to try new things. Also, a few times their rice tasted just too sour, like it had been over-saturated in vinegar, which completely ruined the taste of sushi and sashimi for me. Their staff is always friendly and welcoming, which is why I didn't give them 2 stars.

This place is awesome. They have the best sushi, stuffed mushrooms and shrimp. Yum. I always order to go and it is all made fresh. So good!! The waiters are super friendly, too. The atmosphere of the place is relaxing. The sushi river is the cutest. This place is awesome.

I enjoyed sushi boat. We went for dinner right around seven and was pleasantly surprised to find a good selection of sushi . Very clean, the atmosphere was pleasant and the service was good. Seating was packed when we got in but found seats with in a couple minutes . The food was good i enjoyed the salmon nigri and spicy crab rolls. I will definitely be going back!

Tried this place yesterday w/my boyfriend. Randomly wanting sushi we stopped here because Sushi Hana was packed. Their prices are definitely more then other sushi places we've gone too. Can't say it's worth it! The only thing I liked was the Hot Night sushi roll which came on a white squared plate that's $6. Not a whole lot of options. The belt thing is full of water with little boats floating around which is pretty cool.

I'm not really sure what the fuss is about with this place. It's not top quality sushi and they don't try to be. It's a sushi boat for god sake! If you want great sushi you gotta spend $50+ on a meal! Here you can eat well for less than $15 per person, easy. Of the "sushi tray" type places this is the best one I've come across I've been here several times and have never had any complaints about the service or the food. I was just in there yesterday and had lunch in 15 minutes. I immediately sat down, was brought a diet Coke like I asked for and started eating! I ate several salmon nigiri and didn't find any bones like someone else has mentioned. The tune nigiri was great as well. I really felt the food was great. The service was quick! I was quickly attended to at all times from the gentleman working at the register. Really can't complain about anything here. It's a great place to grab lunch on your lunch break or to grab dinner at with friends. I'll be coming here again soon.

  • Devyn D.

The two stars is for the customer service and the attentiveness they provided to me. However I wouldn't call this "Sushi Boat" I'd call it "Cream cheese boat" because literally every single thing was covered in cream cheese. I get that we are in America.. but Sushi and Sashimi does not need to be doused in cream cheese. It was just too much. Plus all of the sushi was luke warm. Won't be returning but I appreciate the kind staff.

  • Dara H.

The sushi tastes okay and the prices are good, but they always have stacks of plates of sushi just sitting out on all the counters...ready for when people take things off the track. That weirds me out with raw fish! Definitely doesn't seem very fresh...since I worked in restaurants for many years, about 99% sure this is a health code violation. I definitely don't see this at other sushi track places...just sayin

  • Richard H.

I finally went back and found that the place is still dirty. I sat down to eat anyway. On my third nigiri I ran into bones. Yes I know it's salmon ant the have bones. It's the chefs job to ensure the nigiri do not have bones. In this case thee were not one bone but two small bones. I spit it out the stood up. The waitress just walked over and counted the plates. I told her the there was a bone in the sushi. She said, "oh just tell the chef and he'll make another." Not for me. I won't be back.

I know.. I use the quick tip things as a bookmarker so I can find where I checked in at. So went to lunch here today with two colleagues. I have been here before with friends but decided to stop in since neither of the two had ever been here. They thanked me for the suggestion and told me they thought the choices of fish were very high quality, which they are. I love the plentiful sashimi they have there as well as yummy green tea. Love that they actually have little boats here with the sushi floating on it. Great place overall and one of my favorites. Bring your co workers here.

OK. It is time for an update. After years of avoiding this place like the plague, I decided to check in. The prices have been reverted back to reasonable price levels, which is good. I can easily do a full meal for six dollars here. This place is not the best sushi. It isn't the worst sushi either. It is just OK. It is a decent enough location for lunch. I've had a few annoyances with the service, but generally speaking everything has been fine on that end. Best roll I've had has been either the sushi pizza, or spicy salmon. I almost never see the pizza on on the boats however, which is unfortunate because it is pretty tasty. Spicy salmon is always there though, and it pretty much makes up for the lack luster sushi on 75% of the plates. Worst thing to get here is the calamari. I got the calamari here once, but never again... well maybe again under reassurances that they had changed EVERYTHING about how they make it. It was plain and simple awful. It looked and tasted like calamari from a frozen microwave dinner. It was round... round? Like chicken nuggets. It wasn't... you know... squid-y in the slightest. So, yeah. This place is alright. If you have a hankering for sushi and only a few bucks, probably the most affordable sushi place in the area.

I came here for sushi with my son and granddaughters. The sushi travel around on a watery track with boat shaped platters. The girls were amused by this. There wasn't a great amount of variety, and we stared at many dishes going by without picking anything up. I was able to ask the sushi chef for certain sushi items I wanted. I thought the seaweed salad rolls were fresh and tasty. The inarizushi was mediocre, but then again, it seems that no one makes that as good as my mom used to make. The girls seemed to find plenty to eat. My son seemed a little disappointed that he couldn't find quite what he wanted. He finally special ordered an ikura. Our total came to $32...not bad for 4 people. The people that worked there were friendly and accommodating.

If you're looking for cheap, tasty eats with good service, then check this place out. The salmon quality is great, there are a wide variety of rolls and specials, and the staff is friendly!

Not a fan of sushi and the likes but tried it once and I keep coming back for more. Have you seen that small lady sitting on the bar with 20 empty plates... That's probably me. Lol

This was my go-to location for simple and inexpensive sushi. I used to go here about every 2 weeks with my daughter for our sushi fix. They were never fancy, but they were always super decent. fast forward a number of years and sadly they have gone downhill. I worry that opening the second location may have stretched their attention, or maybe new owners took over. I am not sure what happened - they have the same sushi chefs, but no one else seems familiar from when I went. I wonder if I should try them again when I walk by (and I do that at least once a week(, but so far I haven't had the need to give them a chance. Someday I hope that I can go there again as a regular. It sure is nice and convenient for me.

In the beginning, there was goodness. I used to treat myself to sushi boat fare at least three times a week. This place was hopping, the owner asked me to try new things, new sauces, new creations of his own -- it ROCKED. Now, not so much. Yes, I can always find some okay salmon, eel and taco rolls but my oh my do you sometimes have to wait for hot sides to make it to the belt. I like to mix up my raw fish with a couple of cooked items that are not cold as ice. That's probably my only complaint -- not a good planning process that allows for occasional hot/warm item to run down the canal. Keep in mind, you can place orders it's just less convenient. The Miso soup is solid, the service is adequate. The fish is not the greatest you will find in the area but it's great for a quick bite. I used to embrace this place with a hearty and full bear hug, now, just a knowing nod and maybe a wink. Old friend, I'll be back when i need a convenient sushi fix.

I remember when this restaurant first opened probably about a decade ago or so and it was pretty good. I have not been there in awhile but over the years I noticed that the quality was slowly dropping. I have been to this place probably about 15 times and had them cater to us over 20 times. Sushi is usually decent. No major problems. The lines on the weekend were getting longer for less and less quality. I stopped going and have not been there in years. I would like give it a try one last time before I make a final decision but it would be a hard sell to get me to even walk through the door considering I can pay the same and get better sushi at Ikenohana a half mile away for the same price.

    (3)
  • Rachel M.

I enjoyed the atmosphere. The chefs were nice, the boats are cute, the stickers help you know how fresh things are. The food was mediocre. Maybe it was the time I went (around 5:30) but it just didn't seem like there was much variety. I ended up eating mostly the same thing. Wish there had been more options. I may try there again but I love Sushi Hana so much more so I doubt it unless I'm in the area.

    (3)
  • Phong D.

I'd have to agree with the other reviewers. This wasn't the best sushi-go-round but it certainly wasn't bad. The service was great because there weren't a lot of people. The selection was ok. I agree that the prices were a bit on the higher end. Overall impression: three stars (one for each letter in the word "meh").

    (3)
  • Edward H.

Service is bad. Poor selection of items and I question the quality. Many of the pieces we had were flavorless and "warm" which bothers me about safety. And in comparison to other places like Hanna Sushi, they are overpriced. I would not go back. Even the fresh made tempura was overcooked. We complained about the quality and didn't eat some of the items. Then they had the audacity to make us pay for items we did not eat or like.

    (1)
  • Jamie R.

I've never been to what I would consider a fast-food sushi place, but that's pretty much what you have, minus the drive-through window. It was fun. The sushi is pretty much all pre-prepared, although they do have a special order menu (costs waaay more). the prices were really really cheap... some plates start at $1 for three pieces. The quality is not what you'd get at most places, but it's sooo cheap... I'd definately go back for a casual lunch, but not the place to go if you're really hungry for some great food. I'll be returning.

  • Annie C.

Happened to be in the area... so I stopped in for a quick lunch a few weeks ago. It was o. k. Like someone else mentioned in the review, the place wasn't busy at all so the service was good. For a conveyer belt sushi place, the prices were a lot more expensive - maybe because it's Murrayhill?

    (3)
  • Trista H.

I love this place! We have been going here for well over 5 years at least once a week - sometimes more! The sushi is fresh (they have a sticker system to tell you when it was made) and the waiters/sushi chefs are all very friendly. The sushi chefs know what we want when we walk in and have no problem making it fresh when asked. Best sushi around this area in my opinion! Mmm, now I want to go eat! :)

  • Nishant S.

We went here on a Friday evening and were amazed not to see too many people in there. We were skeptical of the place at first but thought of giving it a try. The food was mediocre.. Nothing extraordinary, but the service was great and the service chefs were engaging too. It's a good place for simple casual dining. We will go back there again, but the next time hopefully when it's a but more lively inside

    (3)
  • Zach B.

I went here for dinner on a week night. It wasn't at all busy so it was quick to get a seat. The sushi was decent but didn't stand out as great. They served a many of the common rolls that you can get at a sushi track kind of place but I still felt like the selection wasn't great. It could just have been because I went in mid-week. The service was great (likely due to not being very busy). I was immediately greeted and seated. They made sure I had everything I need and as soon as I got up were ready to count everything up. Bang for buck, I'd say you could do better (plates were ~$2-3). If you're close and have the hankering for Sushi, it does the job.

I left my heart in San Francisco, but I left all of my money at Sushi Boat. A previous reviewer noted that there was too much raw fish going around the belt, but I had exactly the opposite problem. It was mostly stocked with california rolls, deep fried rolls and edamame. I don't mind this stuff every now and again, but I go to sushi places to eat real fish. I was surprised at the lackluster selection especially considering I went at a "peak" time. Right before I left I did see a couple plates of sake sashimi being placed on the conveyor. I do have to say that they take more care in plating here than other places do. They arrange the rolls and garnish them differently than I've seen in comparable establishments. Some of the rolls looked sloppy (think: falling apart) but for the most part everything looked really nice. So-so sushi should mean so-so prices. Let me be clear: this place is overcharging for what you get. I'd expect these prices at a fancy Japanese restaurant complete with beautiful décor and fresh fish. My bill, for four plates, was over $18. ZOMG. Let me be clear- nothing I ate was even remotely worth that. I don't mind being disappointed by food, but I DO mind being ripped off. This is not the worst sushi place I've ever eaten, but I doubt I'll be going back.

    (2)
  • Andy B.

This place is just ok. The selection and quality is subpar and pricey for its value, especially for sashimi plates. The saving grace is that the people are very friendly and there's plenty of room for seating around the watery conveyor belt even during peak times. They accept Visa or Mastercard only.

    (3)
  • Shawn S.

Pluses: * Good Sushi, Fresh and excellent selection which is placed on a real floating sushi go round. Nice touch. * The chefs are more then happy to make you up something which is not floating by (on real boats!) Minus: * If you can't sit at the bar, the tables just don't offer the same experience. You will find yourself walking over to get sushi off the boats.

  • Janine S.

For a typical suburban American neighborhood, mall type sushi joint, this place is pretty decent. For an authentic experience, this place is not. Owners are Korean as with a lot of Japanese places in Portland area, and the sushis are americanized typicals like california rolls and other inventive interpretations of classic rolls like tempura rolls, dragon rolls, and some guacamole type roll with shrimp. Prices were pretty good, with my short meal coming out to about $18 including tip. The service is quite lacking, with me having to ask for water halfway through my meal as well as tolerate the cleaning lady bringing her sanitized smelling towel within a few inches of where my table was. The only really special thing about this place is that Instead of a conveyor belt, they have a ring of water with the sushi floating on little boats! Very cool.

  • London L.

My first visit here a year ago I was really disappointed in the quality and service and price. But I gave it another shot a few months later and it's waaaay better!! They learned my name and my favorite rolls. The staff is really sweet. They ask me questions and really seem to care about me. When I get orders to-go they even offer to get me a drink why I wait. One time i came in right before they closed and they gave me a few rolls free. I only deducted one star because it's a little more expensive than Sushi Hana which is only 10m away, and I'd like to see a better variety in the rolls... But they of course have all the popular ones.

  • Erin O.

Cushy stools and nice chefs (2 Caucasians the night we were here)...but the sushi wasn't great. Not enough variety; no specialty rolls; just ok quality fish. The rice would fall apart when I picked up my pieces. When my daughter didn't even finish the piece of chocolate cake she nabbed from the conveyor belt, I knew it wasn't just me.

  • Lynn M.

This place improved 100% from 2007ish. I eat here a lot. I love their salmon sashimi plate and I always order the spicy salmon roll - which is totally different from their spicy tuna. I think they do salmon well here. Yes, a lot of their rolls on the boats are glorified California rolls but I always leave happy without having to eat imitation crab. You can order whatever you like directly from the sushi chef. I agree with other reviewers that they desperately need new sushi covers. Try the sister restaurant (DJK Korean BBQ) for some terrific Korean food.

  • Erica L.

This is mediocre sushi all around. It was good, but not amazing. My complaints lay mainly with the establishment. 1. Several of the dishes go around without lids. Unsanitary, if you ask me. Especially since a fourth of the go around is hidden behind swinging doors and I could see people back there. I guess its just as easy to lift a lid and do something to the food, but i'm also talking about stuff in the air, sneezes, etc. 2. The lids on the sushi are of the cheapest plastic i've seen. They were flimsy, worn, and kind of dirty. Big turn off. 3. Some of the fish on the belt was clearly hours old, there was more sitting on a table beyond the belt, and still the chefs were cooking. There were three people in the restaurant. Waste of product. 4. I can't decide if it lacked variety or had so much variety I was angry they didn't have the basics. Only one nigiri option going around, no california rolls, no philly rolls, no salmon rolls, but tons of shrimp filled rolls and specialty looking rolls. The menu consisted of large binders by the door and a laminated photo on the cash register. Please tell me who enters an establishment and wants to stand in front of the register to decide what they want? But the place was priced decently, nearby my apartment, the staff was friendly, and the sushi was actually decently tasty. When I am craving sushi, and it's this or safeway sushi, I will return.

I'm so shocked by the negative reviews here. My husband and I eat at this restaurant almost every weekend. The staff is very friendly, as are the sushi chefs. In fact, when we come in, the chefs automatically make and bring each of us our favorite plate. No, it's not the fanciest sushi restaurant, but it's conveyor belt, what do you expect? If you want something fancy - go to a fancy restaurant. The stools are comfortable, the belt (OK, moat, since the sushi comes on little boats floating in water) is long and always full, and the food is tasty. If what you want isn't on the boats - just ask for it and they will make it for you. As for the person complaining that the restaurant is owned by Koreans... yeah the majority of the sushi restaurants in the Portland area are. The owners are Korean, the chefs are Hispanic, and the food is downright yummy so who cares? Priorities, people. Sheesh. My husband's favorite roll here is the "Hot Night" which has the sweet chili sauce on it. We both love the tempura shrimp and the teriyaki chicken (if it's hot and fresh). The only complaint I have is that it is a *little* bit pricey for what you get - other conveyor belt sushi places in the area are a little cheaper, but it's not as ridiculously priced as the other reviews make it sound. For two, we usually spend about $30 at Sushi Boat, whereas at the other places we spend about $25. Not the end of the world. Now I want sushi.

All I have to say is, Korean owned sushi restaurant... weird? Plates are overpriced and nothing special at all, quality is just okay. Wouldn't eat here unless someone paid for my meal and has starved me for 3 days prior.

Take away the boats and what do you have? Another sushi track restaurant. I swear someone spills a piece of sushi into the water at least once every time I come here. Tonight it was my turn, and 2 out of 3 pot stickers landed in the drink. The staff is always very friendly, even with little kids. I appreciate this, and tip well for their happy demeanor. Even the sushi chefs seemed happy to be there, which is rare it seems (and I think they were actually Japanese...bonus!). The sushi is pretty good, slightly better than your average track restaurant. They have a decent variety of sushi here, not all the same safe looking California rolls, some more exotic looking stuff from time to time. Expect it to be busy if you are going during peak times. Not much else to say, they fill up the water all the time, so they get a bonus star.

I come here a lot. It's quick, it's good and it's clean (some of the sushi bars around here are nasty dirty). The staff is super nice, although I still can't wrap my head around a Mexican guy making sushi. But hey, it works! They are awesome if you bring your kids, very kid friendly.

Sushi is overpriced for non-fresh, belt style, service.

  • Jim S.

If you want good Japanese food, this is definitely not the place to go. Honestly, it's just barely above Costco-quality rolls. The prices are too high for the (lack of) quality. On the plus side, the service is friendly and the atmosphere is good.

The worst service I have ever had. I ate here the other night, and as soon as we sat down I ordered a super crunch roll. After 10 minutes of waiting, I asked if they had forgotten about my roll, he said no, they were making it right now. After another 20 minutes had pasts and I could see the chefs cleaning up, I asked the same guy when my roll wpuld be done, because they were cleaning. He played dumb, and asked me when I ordered a roll. I told him I ordered a roll when I first got there from him, and I stated I had asked him about the roll previously and he said they were making it. He told me the chefs forgot and went to ask them to make my roll. After another 10 minutes of waiting, I finally received the food I ordered when arriving. On his way back by to fill soy sauce bottles I asked if I could have a refill of my water, we received no refills the whole time we were at the restaurant. He said yes, and asked if i would like ice, which i replied no thanks to, he then proceeded to take out his tab and start wringing the checks (2 separate checks for 4 people) before walking off without filling my water. After everyone had paid, I still sat at the bar, waiting for my water filled. I flagged him down from across the restaurant with my glass, at which point he came over, said nothing and filled me glass. I definitely won't be returning here. I don't remember the last time I received such bad service.

Worst sushi bar I have been to. Sushi Hana or I love Sushi are better choices near by.

I loved loved loved going here with my husband and kids... cute boats, tasty sushi, and they take custom orders. Waitresses are friendly and you can basically seat yourself. Then I think there was a change of ownership, and I came across their county food inspection report at: washtech.co.washington.o… and now I cannot and will not eat there ever again and would be afraid for anyone else who eats here either. I still pass by with sadness as my kids ask, "Are we going to the boat restaurant?"

Went here a lot for lunch. I like to see my food before i picked it off the little boats. Not too expensive but because some of the food stayed out on the boats for some time it didnt always have the best taste. All in all good for a quick bite

Okay, I have a lot to say so hang on to your wigs and keys folks, we're going for a bumpy ride. I used to give five stars all the way...but things change, sadly. I have been going to SB since it opened - a looooong time ago. It has since sold, and new management has the best of intentions but not as firm a hold on staff as previous ownership. If I added up the amount of $$ I spent over the years at SB it would be in the thousands. Not because they are the best sushi ever, but because they have a few things that they have nailed that the others just didn't get. 1. They honor the customer. The customer is welcomed personally - not just yelled at in Japanese when they walk through the door. They remember what customers prefer and if you go there a couple of times, they will ask you if you would like your favorites made up specially. -That is customer service - remember that, folks? It feels gooooooood. 2. They keep up with the trends. If the other place is making a new specialty, they soon will have that favorite as well. It's called competition and they are all over it. I like that. There are NO other places in the area that will do that regularly and as part of their M.O. It's good for business - I can go there for ALL my favorites. 3. They offer Bento and other non-sushi plates. I could not get my husband to come until I PROMISED him they had cooked food that came on a large plate. He was really happy when his food came. We come together for sushi and bento now...it's good to diversify your market. Now for the not so positive. The staff (and guys, you're great, really. Friendly, well meaning folk.) are NOT trained well enough to be left alone all day, day in and day out without supervision by a sushi expert. Because of this, the restaurant has become grimey. This is too bad. Lots of customers, including myself, will walk out when they see a filthy sushi restaurant. Unfortunately, that's what I saw upon my last visit, and I haven't been back. Caked on scum around fridge handles is unacceptable. Scummy walls and kitchen curtains - unacceptable. Even a layer of gray dust on the curtain over the food conveyor belt - unacceptable. Additionally, I was absolutely horrified to witness one of my favorite chefs prepare a stuffed mushroom by taking the fresh, unwashed mushroom straight from the safeway bag and pull out the stem and stuff it. (Mushrooms are grown in worm casings and feces) No washing in sight. He did this with the whole bag. I don't think he grilled them all...just prepped them with krab and ...... mayonaise.....a.k.a. bacteria breeding material. So while these little nuggets of love are sitting in the fridge, they are multiplying bacteria that may, or may not be cooked off. Folks, a sushi restaurant is one place I don't want people messing with the food. There are too many risks already. The food must be PRISTINE in order for it to be sushi quality. These two items were a fail and they happened very close to the date I am posting this review. I won't be back for a while, sadly. They need to tighten up the reigns or they are going to lose more devoted customers. :(

I guess a lot of reviewers do not like this place, but I actually really liked it. The sushi was average, and prices were CHEAP! Sure, it's not Nobu, but it's nice. I sat at the bar both times (so I can't comment on the table service), and I was able to sample a little bit of everything. All the sushi were very pretty, colorful and tasted good,.. and they came around these little gondolas around this little "river" track.. it was like a sushi fashion show. I liked not having to wait for my order, and just picking out what I wanted as it came around in front of me. The portions were small, so I was able to sample a few rolls, sushi, warm appetizers and sashimi. The second time I came to this place, I really wanted a spider roll, and since I did not see it on the "river", I had to place a custom order. When my order came, I was surprised that the portion was just as small, and later, just as affordable. The first time I dined here, we also had an order of small Saki, and even with the both of us eating, it all came to under $20. I'm not from Oregon, so I'm not sure how much a sushi dinner is supposed to cost, but this seemed like a good deal.

Pretty expensive for mediocre sushi. This seems to be the case at most places in Portland though. Limited choices on the track. Staff is friendly, but the sushi chefs are hard to approach.

I actually love this place for so many reasons. Great sushi, great prices and really close to my house. Unfortunately they lost a lover on Valentines Day. My husband and I have yet to have a good dining out experience on Valentines Day. The one day that you are obligated to dine out. With restaurants extremely busy, you are pretty much guaranteed to have a bad experience. I am usually willing to give wiggle room for failure. Here is where I draw the line: My husband and I walk into a restaurant that we have been going to regularly for over 5 years. I don't expect to be treated like a rock star, by any means. I just expected to get my spot when my name comes up on the wait list. That is all I ask. We waited and waited. Right before our name comes up, two different couples, that apparently new the staff well, come in. I can only assume that they knew each other, because they all spoke the same language. Their names were scribbled in directly above ours on the wait list and they are seated right away. WTF! My husband was pissed and wanted to leave. I was just hungry and I wanted to eat. I can say though that I will take my business elsewhere in the future. Granted the sushi is good and well priced, these places are a dime a dozen. If they are going to so blatantly discriminate, I will go a little further for a sushi experience.
