ARMPIT OR PUBIC HAIR!!! I don't want to even guess! This is still haunting me. I went there with a friend hearing about the $9.99 all you-can-eat pork lunch special and turns out (FALSE ADVERTISEMENT) to be $11.99. Please take down the sign outside for $9.99. We also ordered the soft tofu soup with beef. We ate and towards the middle of our meal, as I was about to take a scoop out of my rice I see a ARMPIT OR PUBIC HAIR! from the spoon I used for the soup. I called the waitress over to let her know. As I showed her she picked the hair off the spoon with her fingers and took it over to another employee asking her "what is this?" (in Korean). Then I got frustrated and voiced out "its hair"! She comes back and says "we will make you another one" with no sincere apology thinking that's going to make it better. "MY APPETITE IS DEAD"! I even told her that I lost my appetite and she brings it out anyways. Then, to add to the fire she charges us for everything we ate. Next time you should consider not to charge for the soup. That's my last visit out of some.

This is our second time eating at this restaurant. For Korean food, this place ranks on the top of my list. The food is very authentic. The atmosphere is very comfortable, and the wait staff make you feel like you're are family. We like the Kim chee bar, where you can choose your own sides and have as much as you want. We will be back.

I love this place! You are always able to get in and get a seat at a BBQ table. The meat is tasty and the portions are good for the price. The side dishes are varied and change from visit to visit so there is something new to try each time. (Despite the sign, I have never had them charge me for what I did not eat - just don't be wasteful as you try things) You cannot go wrong with the BiBimBop in the clay pot - it has become a comfort food with me.

Decent food the one time I was here, but it's definitely too expensive. Service was slow.

When I saw that they charge you for food you DON'T eat I knew I walked right into a customer service disaster. I remember when these guys were on Beaverton-Hillsdale highway and the owner lady was really sweet and didn't mind if you took more banchan than you could eat. I miss her. I wish I could have had a community meat fest but everyone I came with wanted their own private food. Darn. So I ordered my own plates of meat and offered to share a little; since I came with a big party we were sitting at a grill table. I guess I should have specified that the meat wasn't going to be the main course for everyone, but more on that later. I did steal bites from others. The bibimbap was pretty good, although the person who ordered it asked for no egg. The japchae had too much soy sauce and tasted overly of salt and soy. The noodles were kind of withered and sad and they were sitting in an equally sad pool of anonymous vegetable oil. The naengmyun broth tasted like dish water. Honestly it was disgusting. It got the least amount of love from our table, by far. I stole many bites from the soondaeguk but it wasn't that great. The soondae was cut into 3-inch chunks too large to fit inside a normal human mouth, and despite that it really didn't have much flavor except of dangmyun. The person who ordered it found one piece that had a bunch of noodles spilling out of the casing on top, propped it up on his plate, and called it Medusa for the rest of the dinner. So, with six of us sitting at a table it may have looked odd that only about 5 or so pieces of meat were sitting on our grill. Since I can only shovel in about that much at a time I was keeping it at about that amount regularly. I went to the bathroom for just a second (not recommended) and when I came back I found that, whoops, all of my meat was sitting on the grill. When I asked what happened I was told the waitress volunteered her services. Now, it is common that people will opt to have the waitress put the meat on the grill, and even in Korea this happens. But clearly I had a handle on it for the last 15 minutes and I didn't need any grilling assistance. Of course, all of the meat finished grilling at the same time so I put it on my plate and by the time I got around to it, it was room temperature. Boring. Among the grill problem were other subtle cues that we were supposed to eat and leave as soon as possible. I have no idea why as the restaurant was empty until the very end, when a few businessmen walked in looking confused. By the way, refilling banchan for free is the standard at Korean restaurants. Charging you for leftover banchan certainly isn't though. Meh, I've experienced better, even in Portland.

I went to this Restaurant more than 2-3 times, the thing that keep me going back would be the unlimited side order dishes (banchan). I love kimchee, beansprout salad and small fish etc. Service was way good, slow slow...However, the price was a bit high compare to others Korean Restaurants, I would love to go there more often if I have some extra money to spare LOL

Hubby was in the mood for Bar-B-Que and thought we'd try Korean style - well what a disappointment. We didn't get seasoned meat as we ordered. It was just cut up beef - not seasoned. They assumed we'd do the cook your own when we walked in the door! Never assume! The waitress didn't explain how to eat the food even when we said it was our first ever visit to a Korean restaurant. She was inattentive. The "sides" bar says don't take more than you'll eat - any plate with food remaining will get extra charge on tab. What an Attitude!! She filled up our plates and we didn't even like some of the food - we ate it anyway! A huge group of Korean students (ages 5 to 15) arrived and took all the attention. Then we were charged more than we thought we should have been. We paid - left and will NEVER return. Korean food is for those that like pickled food - kim chee, pickeled vegetables, etc. Not my taste.

Food is ok; seafood pot has a lot of real seafood in it, including cod shrimp mushroom tofu, etc. The waitress tricked us into ordering too much food, saying the serving of each kind of meat was only enough for one person. Thank god we didn't order five kind of meat as she said: 4 orders were already plenty! Ended up with 140 bucks of bills including tips, quite to my surprise..

they were once located on beaverton-hillsdale hwy, but now located on sw canyon road in beaverton. they have tabletop korean bbq or you can sit at a regular table. if you sit at the tabletop area theres a minimum of 2 orders of the meats/veggies you want. we had jabche and spicey tofu and seafood soup (like always) and two orders of galbi and korean beer about $60 total. the old location had an all you can eat kimchee bar, but now you have to ask the waitress for refills of the 6 different appetizer dishes. rice also comes in a hot stone so it stays warm throughout your meal.

  • Jonathan M.

The food was great, and the staff were very helpful. It filled up fast and service slowed down, but the food made up for it. We paid $60 for a meal that would have fed 4 (instead of 2 over-eaters).

I've been coming to this place even when it was located on Beaverton-Hillsdale Hwy. The food has always been great. I love the differen types of kim chee and cooking marinated meats over a hot grill in the middle of your table is awesome! The bean paste is killer and you got to ask for the sesame oil with salt. All these flavors wrapped in a fresh lettuce leaf is a yummy experience. This is by far the best Korean BBQ on my side of town. Service can be slow at times but, its worth it. Bring an empty stomach you will not leave hungry. I love to hit up this place after a long night of drinking.

This a great find. The food is better than good and the service is fantastic. We had Ms. Sun as our server and there was nothing she could have done to make our experience more enjoyable. She is definately a firecracker and eager to please. The food is very very good. We sampled the spicy soft tofu "soups", one with seafood and other with pork. Both were excellent. Good broth, perfect heat and spice. We also had the BBQ - spicy pork and bulgolgi. Again, both excellent and spiced perfectly. The 5th star was lost on the banchan. What they had was good...very good. I am just used to having far more variety. Banchan in Korea can run as high as 10 or 15 different types of kimchee, namul (marinated vegis) and bokkeum (fried/cooked dish). Perhaps the best authentic Korean food in Portland area.

At last I've found a place that serves sundaeguk - this is the first Korean restaurant in America that I've been in - and there have been many - that has it as a regular menu item. Naturally I had some. It was good - very good. Tastier even than what I had in Korea. The banchan was good too, though the kimchi and gakkdugi was perhaps a bit sour for my taste. My dining companion ate the sundubu - that was good too (yes, I tasted it...) There's a very large menu - about anything Korean one might want. Though the menu has errors in translation - the dweji-kimchi-bokkeum was described as spicy stir fired beef tripe and veggie, instead of as fried pork and kimchi. The Sunji hae jang Guk (blood soup) had no English description. Only problem we had with the restaurant is that tobacco smoke came out of the bar into the restaurant. Even that wasn't too strong if one stayed away from the entrance. I'll surely return here. Though, alas, since I live far from here it won't be often, and I'll always be tempted by the sundaeguk, instead of by the many other tasty-sounding dishes. I wish they'd open a branch in my neck of the woods. and I'd beat a path to their door.....

The food here is inconsistent. Sometimes its good and sometimes its just blah. I've been disappointed the last two times that I came here with someone. They used to serve the side dishes individually, now its buffet style, all you can eat. I don't mind that as much as I mind the quality of the food. The seafood pancake we got today was a bit burnt and the ginseng chicken was unpalatable. I've had the ginseng chicken several times before and it was always a nice clear brother with a light ginseng taste. Today it tasted like super salty chicken broth (canned) and no ginseng flavor at all. We were super disappointed. We talked to the owner about the issue and she gave us 50% off that dish, which we thought was fair since we did eat some of it. All in all though we don't think we'll be back again. It was not worth the drive over.

Hmmm...this place is a bit hard to pin down. It's not a buffet, except their panchan (little side dishes) station. Their kalbi is tasty if a bit overpriced. I am used to pre-cut kalbi that's cooked over coal. But the gas grill provided enough flavor and your eyes didn't burn after sitting in delicious smoke penetrating your eyes, clothes, hair. Their lettuce and garlic accompanying the kalbi was fresh. They did cook the meat that is left close to the rib/bone in their kitchen which definitely helps. One thing I didn't see was their green onion salad used to give the kalbi wraps a bit of spicy bite and pungency. Their panchan station was fine but it was a little disappointing not to get the dozen little plates of panchan brought to your table. Instead, there is a little panchan station where you can pick you own from choice of 6 or so, most of them being a type of kimchi. It definitely has an air of authenticity with the requisite Korean soap opera being shown and most of the clients being Korean. The first waitress was a little brisk and kind of frightening ah-jima style. The other waitress who checked up on us was friendlier, slower and helpful. We had several young kids and everyone found something good to eat. I'm still out on the look out for greatness....

I grew up in in both the North and South areas of Seattle which each offers their own little "Mini" Korea Town... So getting Good, Authentic Korean Food wasn't difficult at all. This all changed as soon as I moved to Portland OR... Korean Restaurants are very limited in number and if you happen to stumble upon one... It usually consists of nothing but Americanized BBQ Dishes or even "Teriyaki".... (..........what??) perhaps because there really isn't a huge Demographic in this area that demands Real Authentic Korean. Which brings me to New Seoul Garden... Honestly if this was L.A or Seattle even this restaurant wouldn't be as Great... But I do appreciate the effort they make towards Light, Traditional, Non MSG Korean Food. The Service is surprisingly good for a Korean Restaurant and the Banchan (Side Dishes) is always fresh... If you're in the mood for some Korean, give New Seoul Garden a try.

I'm not sure how to go about writing a review for New Seoul Garden. Like many Korean BBQ restaurants, it can be quite spendy. Looking for a meal decently priced for Korean is difficult. New Seoul offers an unlimited Pork Belly plate for a decent price but one can only consume so much Pork Belly. The service was outstanding but I had a hard time communicating with the waitress. If you plan on dining here, I would recommend familiarizing oneself with Korean BBQ so that it is easier to order :)

Amazing! Our first trip there was this past Sunday. The service was fast, friendly and helpful as we didn't realize there was the option to cook at the table. The food was incredible. We had the spicy pork and the beef brisket. The Kim-chi was perfect. Even the rice was the best ever. Go hungry and go often!

My roommate and I had dinner here on a weekday. There were only a few tables taken so we were seated right away. We ordered some pork belly, beef, seafood soft tofu soup, and mixed rice. Their grill is nice (and so fancy) and works really well that our food was cooked pretty quickly. The quality of the meats were good (better tasting beef that i've had) and portions were especially generous. The soft tofu soup was really delicious and did not hold back on the seafood items. Service was great- the ladies are awesome and really attentive. It was such a fun experience.

I don't venture out to Beaverton to eat very often. Why should I? There are so many wonderful restaurants within a walk of my apartment in Portland that there really isn't much of a reason to go to Beaverton. That is what I thought before I went to this place. I guess Beaverton isn't so bad. Ok, I'm not moving there. This is a good restaurant to come with a large group of people. That is exactly what we did. It was 9 of us. We sat at a large table with 2 table top grills. One in our party ordered all the food. We had marinated beef sirloin and spicy pork for the grill. Along with that we ordered the spicy stir fried octopus with veggies, a fish dish and some kind of soup which seemed to have bacon in it. That can't be bad, can it? All of this food comes with a bunch of different sides that they keep refilling. I'm still not quite sure what I was eating, but it was all very good. After all was said and done and the food was eaten, it only set us back $20 a person and that included a nice tip.

I've been going here for awhile and i've never been unhappy. The staff is friendly (i've only met the owner mom and son) The food is reminds me of home. love the pickle salad bar, they switch from the small dishes back to the salad bar. those pickled mung beans are my fav. The prices are a little high and it doesn't look like a lot of food but with galibi and chicken and rice with all those pickles fills you up fast. the lettuce is always crisp and i love that miso spicy paste. i've done a few other items also, the jaep che (clear noodle stir fry) very tasty, and the hot soup version also very tasty. I'd say if you're feeling mildly adventurous and would like some tasty eats try it here.

I came here for my "25th" birthday party with a party of about 25 people on a Saturday night. The staff was extremely accommodating and friendly. We had a private side of the restaurant and the staff offered to grill the meat for us, which turned out to be an excellent suggestion because with that amount of people it would have taken forever to get out food. The banchan is self serve, I do wish they had a slightly greater selection, but hey all you can eat! everything was well seasoned, except it wasn't spicy enough even when we specified for it. We ended up ordering way to much food because the server informed us that 1 meat entree was meant for only on person, when really it could serve 3-4 people, but Yay for leftovers! Even so- with all of the extra food the prices were very fair. They even gave us complementary Korean pancakes with a birthday candle!

Unfortunately, there is no AYCE (all you can eat) gogi jip's (meat houses) in Oregon, so New Seoul Garden will have to do. I come from Hawaii/LA so AYCE gogi places are abundant. It's usually $20-$25 and you cook all the Korean meat you can eat for as long as you like. Throw in a few bottles of soju and you're set. Well, that's not happening in PDX anytime soon, so I settle for NSG - don't you just love these acronyms? NSG seems to be an older building, and the furniture seems to be a bit dated, but I don't go there to admire their furnishings, I go there for meat, and meat is what they serve...yum! Unlike a lot of the "fast food" Korean places around town, they don't over-season their meats. Most "take out" Korean places just douse everything in a soy sauce based marinade with a ton of sugar. We ordered galbi (short rib) and tons of it. The meat was very tender and the seasoning was fantabulous! The banchan they served was also very tasty and authentic. Let's put it this way, it's good for Oregon. Yay for good Korean food! When I'm feeling home*food*sick, this is where I'll be going to get my gogi fix. The only negative I can see is that it is a bit pricey, especially when you eat pounds of beef on a daily basis as I do. My belly gets bigger while my wallet gets smaller. Not a good proposition!

A spacious environment for korean bbq with options on how you would like to dine. You can either choose to eat on a table booth with the typical dining experience or you can choose to sit on a table with stoves in the center of your table and grill your own bbq, our party of 7 sat comfortably at one of these stove. We got bugolgi and kalbi and an assortment of appetizers such as seafood pancake and a tofu seafood soup, instead of having to cook all our food on the grill and not having our clothes smell like straight korean bbq, we just asked the server to have them cook in the back and they were glad to do that service for us. The food was good and they were very helpful throughout our meal. I wanted to drink kirin beer but they ran out so i had hite and my friends got sapporo. Overall service was good but food wasnt anything extremely special but still good. TL:DR standard korean bbq with good service and spacious environment

A real diamond in the rough. Definitely 5 stars for the soon du bu (tofu stews) and side dishes; better than many that I have enjoyed while living and working in Korea. The place looks a little sketch on the outside, the inside is very clean; however, bathroom needs a face lift. This review is purely about the food; the real deal if you like real Korean comfort foods (like soon du bu). Can't speak to the BBQ which is primarily eaten by Koreans on special events and preferred by westerners that are leery of the unique tastes of real Korean food. PS- Contrary to some other reviews, the service was very pleasant and efficient (note that in Asian countries it is considered rude for wait staff to chat with patrons..)

Bulgogi is delicious, chicken is well marinated, the sides are better than most yakiniku around town, cold Hite always a plus. They have potstickers and fried veggies which is great. Only desire is salty sesame oil and sweet soy sauce but otherwise great.

For BBQ, you are better off at DJK. The portion is smaller and more expensive. Service was decent and the banchan variety was lacking--Nak Won is better. Probably won't be back since DJK and Nak Won are closer to my house.

  • Chris L.

First of all the service was very slow. It took them 11 minutes for them to bring the menus when there weren't even many people in the restaurant. Next, the server was very stern and not happy to greet us in. The meat was okay not going to lie on that but it was definitely overpriced. The worst part is that they charge a pre-tip at the end of the meal which is a "mandatory tip". That is cutting corners in business because they try to steal more money per visit even though the mandatory tip isn't on the menu.. NOT COMING BACK AGAIN!!!!!!!!! NOT COMING BACK AGAIN!!!!!!!!! NOT COMING BACK AGAIN!!!!!!!!! NOT COMING BACK AGAIN!!!!!!!!!

I wanted to get some good Korean BBQ, and I was a little dissapointed that you had to buy at least $30 worth of food to cook your own food. So I had the kitchen do some bulgogi for me and it was really good. A little dissappointed with the experience, but the food was good. Service is a bit cold there, but that could be a language thing.

I do not know why we chose this place, I was with my husband and his brother from Seattle, we all had been shopping at Washington square mall and this restaurant was referred to us from a stranger at the mall, the closest he Korean restaurant he could think of, we were famished and decided to give it a try. I have very mixed feelings about this place, more cons than pros.. we did not appreciate the service, very poor customer service skills and not friendly at all, also very slow, each time we had to ask twice and to bring something to our table it would take for ever, the water was never refilled..it really was clear they were kind of annoyed with serving us. My husband had the GAL BI ANCHANGSAL I had a bite of it and the meat had no much flavor, it was improved if eaten with the sesame oil mixture, I had the brisket , it was very thin, it was alright, not very tasty either, the kimchee tasted as if was old, not a good flavor, Maybe the only good point is the the menu is not overpriced, and the parking is not a problem, I am not sure we would go back here, unless some friends invite us.

I love Korean BBQ, and to me it's first of all, all about the Kim chi. If the Kim chi is good, then the meats are also probably well seasoned etc... I love the steamed potatoes with Korean seasonings here. Also all the different Kim chi's. Fresh and fermented. Their marinated meats are awesome. I, especially love the spicy pork. It is perfect. Service is usually ok. There's one server that is always awesome. Didn't have her tonight, but she did get me a soda, when our server forgot. our experience was still good. Love this place. It's a gem!!

Different owners from previous good reviews so DON'T BE FOOLED. The pork ayce is $14.99/per person for just pork then they sell other meats a la cart . Not really worth it for the price considering we usually get AYCE with more meats for $20. Spicy pork was not bad if I had to come back, it would probably be the only thing I would come back for. Kalbi with the bone was so expensive to eat there. Might as well buy it from the market to cook and feed a family of four! Overall have had better.

Came here for lunch. I didn't like their lunch plates... We ordered the bulgogi, spicy pork, and BBQ chicken lunch "box"... it came with plain rice and the meat... it was not that appealing to me, so I did not even bothered to take pictures of them..... (which is unusual in my case.) It didn't taste that good.... Though, the buffet style side dish was interesting, I found it lack of variety. The service was whatever. I finished my cup of water in the middle of my meal, and they never came back to refill it. We also asked for to-go boxes and she only gave us a very very little one that does not fit all the food...... I am not planning to go back......

Last year while visiting my best friend who lives here, I had some mean cravings for Korean food. Being that she's half Korean, she knew all the places to hook me up at. She suggested New Seoul Garden because I wanted to eat daeji bulgogi (spicy pork). First offf, I live in Hawaii where there are an abundance of authentic Korean restaurants that are pretty darn good so my expectations were pretty high. I was not disappointed and that's why she's my bestie :)) The first time I ate here, we ordered bim bim bap, kalbi, daeji bulgogi (spicy pork), dol bap (stone rice). To be honest, I'm not a huge fan of bim bim bap but omg, the bim bim bap here was super delish. I don't know what they do to make their bim bim bap so tasty. I have yet to find a place in Hawaii that makes bim bim bap as good as NSG. Everything we ordered came out relatively quickly and was very tasty. Service was friendly. Subsequent visits here have all been the same experience, great food, friendly service and the best bim bim bap. About the restaurant, there are booths and dining tables. The booths have the grill on the tables where you can grill your own meat. The dining tables don't have the grills on the tables. There is a small selection of side dishes that are self service. I think if you order meat to grill, they will bring you the regular side dishes but you're always welcome to the self serving side dishes as well. If you're new to Korean cuisine, give this place a try. Some people are under the misconception that Korean food is always spicy. When you order something spicy, you can always choose your heat level. Of course you can never go wrong with kalbi or bulgogi. If you're not sure what to order, just ask the waitress and she'll help you. On my last visit, I saw her helping a couple choose their menu. Now that I'm back visiting my bestie, I've been getting my bim bim bap craving fixed at NSG. Highly recommended. I heart you bim bim bap.

Very good Korean food! Different than other places I have tried but they say that this is more typical full service Korean. We ordered the KimChee Jigga which is a spicy soup with pork and tofu, really good but a very large portion. We also ordered the JapCha which was delicious! The side dishes they bring are overwhelming, there are just so many.

It's been awhile since I've been back at New Seoul Garden for a BBQ dinner. The first time I thought it was just alright. This time it was outstanding in every way. The service was impeccable. They had several waitresses on hand and each has a great personality. If you don't know what to order they provide some good help. We ordered spicy pork, beef short ribs, chicken and a spicy tofu/seafood combo soup. Everything was just great, and whenever we ran out of the side dishes they were back to refill anything as needed quickly. I've been to several of the Korean BBQ joints on the Beaverton side and I think I'm going to make this my regular one in the future.

First, a disclaimer. I lived in Southern California for 10 years, where the Korean restaurant competition is fierce, and only the strong survive. I also visited SF numerous times (visiting family), and have therefore come to a reasonable expectation of what Korean food should taste like at a good restaurant. I moved to Portland 2 years ago. I was warned ahead of time that the Korean restaurants here were horrible. I even drove up to Seattle a few times trying to get my fix, but was left deeply disappointed each time. I then stumbled across this place, "New Seoul Garden," after visiting one of the nearby car dealerships on Canyon Rd. First, it took about 20 minutes to be seated, and probably another 5 minutes before anybody acknowledged us. That's fairly typical of a Korean restaurant, so I wasn't surprised. One thing that I noticed right away was that there was a large contingent of Koreans at the restaurant, probably more than 50% of the patrons were Korean (I could tell cause they were wearing their golf outfits, or speaking Korean). This is always a good sign. Our party ordered soon tofu, dohl sot bibimbop, mackerel, and buhlgogi. No gahlbi this time, as I was not expecting any good meat from them on a first time visit. My beef soon tofu was good. FINALLY. I found somewhere in Portland that I can rely on for my soon tofu fix. My buhlgogi was a little rubbery and not the most tasty, but my kids were killing it (maybe they were hungry). My wife's soon tofu was also bomb. Ban chan was also good. Overall, the place is a far cry from establishments in LA or SF, but if you are craving decent authentic Korean food and you live in the Portland area, I think this place should be your first option. I think I've tried every Korean restaurant in the Portland area, and this is the ONLY place that has impressed me. Or maybe my expectation level was so low that anything above vomit level would have been satisfying. I'm not sure, but I'll be sure to visit again, and maybe leave another review.

I like this place a lot. It's divey enough for my wife to reconsider, but I like it. We just can't go as frequent. The owner is awesome and the staff as well. I always have a great meal and experience.

This place is incredible, they don't seem that special, but I feel like it's more real than some of the others in the area, they are all fine, but I feel like the ingredients are marinated a little better here, the seafood seems fresher, the Hite is colder, but I am boycotting korean joints in town until someone starts serving yangnyum chicken! Just Kidding, this place is great though (expect it to be better than you'd expect from looking at the outside, but not fancy, like upscale korean Denny's with korean stanford's level menu :)

Ok let me start off by saying that the food tasted half decent. Me and a friend ordered the $15 per person all you can eat Sam Gyup Sal. It seems like a pretty good deal until you realize that the owners are super stingy. In the beginning everything was going good, with plenty of banchan and lettuce. Then we got our second servings of meat. That's when things started getting bad. We asked for more lettuce, but the workers told us that they only refill one time. And the servings they gave us on the lettuce were super small. So in order for us to get more lettuce they would charge us $2 per serving... So we decided to just eat meat. By the time we finished our second serving of meat the grill was getting black. We asked for them to replace it and they said that it doesn't need to be replaced... So after arguing, they finally replaced it. So we were on our 3rd serving and they now gave us meat with only fat. So we were practically eating 90% fat... So at this point we were done with this place. We could have eaten more since we were not even full, but we didn't wanna deal with this stingy restaurant anymore. So we got our check, and we were going to put a low tip, but guess what. They already put tip on the tab.... Well lesson learned. Avoid this place at all cost.

SO good. Excellent side dishes, and the service is very attentive. Reminds me of my mom's Korean cooking. My husband and I will be back!!!

A stranger to the restaurants in Oregon.. my craving for Korean BBQ and a little help from a local friend landed me inside this restaurant. The self-serve area for your side dishes was a nice touch.. and the selection wasn't horrible. The menu, once I opened it up.. I could already tell that I wasn't going to be eating cheaply here. The kalbi and beef ribs are particularly pricey.. and I was actually concerned on if the portions were even worth it. I'm used to paying similar prices for all-you-can-eat types of places in California. Me and my friend ended up ordering the beef ribs and the kalbi (to cook at the table), as well as an order of the seafood pancake. When the meat came out, it was both in pretty large lumps on a plate. The portions seemed ok, but once I started unraveling the meat to start BBQ'ing... hmm.. I started to wonder if it was enough to fill me up. The seafood pancake came out shortly after.. and WHOA... yea.. for the price.. you would hope it was a lot.. and it certainly was! By the end of the meal.. I was full. Needless to say, my concern if they provided enough food was gone. Good quality meat.. kinda on the pricey side... but all-in-all, really good.

Zero greeting when you enter. We had dinner for four of us. One of the things I've always taken for granted (because it's the culinary custom, here and in Korea) is that the many delicious small side dishes - kimchee, bean sprouts, sauces, and more - are replenished during the meal as you use them up. Not true for us. We had the barbecued meats, they were fine. But our server just didn't seem to care about us or the rest of the meal; she brought over lettuce, once only. And yes, we didn't realize it till after we'd left (and tipped AGAIN) that this place includes the tip in your hand-written (impossible to add up the items unless you read Korean, which we don't) bill. Why do people with zero interest in customer service go into service work? I won't return.

This was by far the worst experience I've ever had. We ordered the combo plate for $84.99 because the server said we would get the most meat out of the combo . We got the smallest portion of meat that just one person at my table could've eaten the whole thing. We told the server we couldn't pay for that (considering the fact we have eaten literally down the road at DJK korean BBQ and have paid half the price for double the amount of meat)so we asked to switch it out of the combo and asked for just the pork belly. We told her we have paid $30 less for double the meat at a place down the road and she got super defensive & argumentative and pretty much ignored our table for the rest of our time there. The server definitely showed that she was pissed that we changed our order. She threw our food down on the table, never came back to check on us, never refilled our waters, and trash talked my table in front of us in Korean about how we took back our order and she was super rude about it. (I'm half korean and most people don't know that I am fluent in Korean) She also served the side dishes standing right behind me and a good chunk of my hair touched one of the side dishes and she still served it even though I now had spicy sauce in my hair. I was so appalled by the servers behavior! If the restaurant was busy I would understand why the service was slow, but there were 2 other tables there and there was no other reason to explain why the server was being extremely rude to us other than the fact that we took our meat back. They also didn't have much variety for side dishes and tried to charge us extra just for asking for extra side dishes!!! I've been here once before and they definitely didn't do that to me last time I asked for seconds on side dishes. Also, if your going to try to charge for side dishes I would suggest it being written on the menu somewhere otherwise it makes the restaurant seem super sketchy. And super sketchy it was because they also tried to add a "mandatory tip" of 15% on top of our bill, which also wasn't written on the menu or any other signs around the restaurant. When we got our checks, she had added up how much a 15% tip was off of our bill on a post- it note and attached it to the check. I truly believe that a tip is not something you ask for it is given based on how well your service is. This server was the first server that I have NEVER tipped and i will never go back there ever again. if your looking to find the best korean bbq, I would suggest driving 2 minutes down the road from this place to a place called DJK Korean BBQ & Shabu Shabu to get your fix. I am a Korean BBQ connoisseur and have tried just about every Korean BBQ place in Portland, Beaverton, and Clackamas and by far, DJK Korean BBQ is the best place I have ever been to in Oregon. New Seoul Garden is the place to go IF YOUR LOOKING TO GET RIPPED OFF, EAT SHITTY AMERICANIZED KOREAN FOOD, AND IF YOU WANT TO EXPERIENCE THE WORST SERVICE EVER.

My man can eaaaaaaat. :) I can too, but when my man is hungry, he EATS. We went and ordered the all you can eat samgyupsal (pork belly) which you grill at your table. Service was so wonderful, the younger, pretty, tall server and the fantastic, "imo" server came by frequently to refill our side dishes! We asked for 1.5 additional plates of samgyupsal and they didn't make us feel bad about it. I will always go to New Seoul Garden for kbbq in Beaverton! When I noticed that my boyfriend, who always tips very fairly, left a 50% tip I asked him about it and he said the service was great but he felt bad because we ate SO much! LOLOL!

If you've never felt so unimportant and easy to be neglected intentionally, this is your chance. I came here with my boyfriend tonight, greeted by miss old lady with a face trying to tell us we shouldn't have came in to begin with. We sat down and looked at menus, and asked one question, but received the attitude of impatience and the old lady definitely looked like she didn't even want to serve us. But that didn't hit me as hard as the rest of the dinner. After done looking at the menu, we had to flag down the old lady to come take our order because they were apparently too busy with 4-5 tables, with 2 servers. Ordered our food, received our food. Then had to flag down like few more times for needs because she never ever came back to ask us how things are, despite walking by a couple times. She made us feel like our requests like asking for a new pair of chopsticks because I dropped one are such hassles and we're not worth her time. What's funny though, is that we see her providing service and laughters to other bigger tables, or the Korean tables. Towards the end, we asked the other old lady for boxes as she happened to walk by, she said ok. Then 10 minutes fly by and she's doing miscellaneous things, we still don't have our boxes. My boyfriend had to walk up to the front counter where she was and she somehow "remembered" she was suppose to get our boxes. As we were packing our food because we ordered too much just for 2 people (the BBQ come in large portions), our server came by to put down the check and off she went, didn't even bother a look. I just wow'd at that point. These people.. don't deserve tips. But guess what? On top the check is a sticky note with our total PLUS 15% tip, and with the grand-total at the bottom. Now I don't remember seeing anywhere on the menu saying 15% tip is required, especially for 2 people? Misleading at its best. We brought the check to the front, I asked if it's required, and she say "it's choice". For anyone that doesn't ask about it, would've paid the 15% tip assuming it's required. What's the point of that? People can tip however much they please. Not to mention our service was horrible. It's like as if only Koreans or big tables are accepted in this place. It's very obvious they play favorites. I typically don't expect Asian places to have super professional services, but at least have the decency to provide service. What we had here was NOT service. I totally regret coming here tonight. I hate to leave no tip during dinners because every server works for it, but tonight, this server was different. I don't think I've ever seen a server with such bad attitude and obviously dislike you from the get-go. Would NEVER EVER recommend to anyone, and NOT EVER gonna come back again.

OK so went there tonight with some great Foodie Friends and man we were not disapointed. So first of all had no idea how to order and our wait person helped out tremendously. She helped us figure out a great way to sample many options at a great price. Lots of food and man we ate and ate till we were all stuffed. The best part was we got to grill our own meats on the grill mounted in the table and had a blast dipping and seasoning our food as we went. Highly recomend if you like the intense flavors of asian food and this place does not disapoint. Go on and get ya some!!!!! Big Mike

Best Korean BBQ we've had thus far, in any city. (ok, we haven't had Korean food in LA yet..) We really enjoyed: -The self-serve banchan bar, which had at least 3 kinds of kimchee + a few really interesting greens/salads. And yes, you shouldn't take more banchan than you can eat. :) - The super-nice waitresses, who stop by your table frequently to see if you need more lettuce/ssamjang/garlic. A rarity indeed in Korean establishments. - The Spicy pork bulgogi, with just the right amount of spice - The lamb, sliced ever so thin and served with a tasty sesame-oil-based dip - The gas-fed tabletop grills. Yeah, charcoal is nice, but typically you end up reeking of smoke after cooking your meats over it. - The prices! We couldn't believe how well we ate for $36.

This place was interesting because you can get your own side dishes, which sounds like a good idea until you try it. Except for the cucumber one I found the rest to be pretty bad tasting. The food I tried was also fairly flavorless and I won't be coming back. I heard their BBQ tastes a little better than the tofu soup and bibimbop that I tried, but the bad side dishes keep me from going back.

Came here for a bday dinner on a Saturday night, which we had 25+ maybe. Although we weren't able to sit all together (directly side by side), they tried their very best to accomodate. We practically had our own side of the restaurant to ourselves. At least our tables were next to each other but with gaps in between due to stationary grills. The ban chan (side dishes) are located at a self served bar where there's only about a handful of selections. Many of the different sides were all on the salty side but I didn't really mind it much because I tried not to gorge on just that. Make sure whatever you scoop from here, you're able to finish it because they do have a warning sign that says not waste food and if you do there might be a $2 extra charge on your tab. They were nice enough to give us free pan fried seafood pancakes. More than we can ask for really. Heads up, one order of a meat dish can probably feed up to 2 guys or 3 girls. No need to go with the 1 person: 1 meat ratio because you would have way too much food not unless you want leftovers for later. The meat here is decent (I kept my expectations lower than usual since I wasn't in Ktown or Garden Grove, So Cali). I guess because we had a lot of people crammed into our table and there was only one grill, they decided to pre cook the meat for us. I prefer to cook the meat myself but for this particular night, it was probably easier for everyone. It made sense, we had 13 people on our table with one grill. Good call. The service was great, our waitresses were very friendly and tried their best to keep all of us happy. They spoke good English too so you won't need a Korean translator on the table. The prices are generally fair. Some people ordered the soon dobu tofu soups but I didn't try any so I can't comment on those except that this restaurant does have it on their menu. Everyone who did tried it had positive feedback. All in all, I believe everyone had a swell time. It was the ability to get everyone together in one place, enjoy each other's company, and grab some decent grub at a spot that can accomodate such a large crowd.

New Seoul Garden is the worst Korean restaurant I have ever gone to in last 30 years. Their staffs have no ethics, horrible customer service and worst and dirty food altogether make it not worth to try. Unbelievably rude server. I asked about what appeared to be a sheet of toilet paper stuck to the meat they were serving and they simply said it is from kitchen as if it is not a big deal. All I wanted to hear was a simple sorry. Then she walked away. The food quality was horrible and the quantity was lame. The drink my wife ordered never come to our table. The only thing that was decent was their tea. They should drop the sign says it is a Korean restaurant because it is embarrassing to the country and there are plenty of decent korean restaurants in beaverton area. Don't waste your time and money there. Only thing you will get out of this place is an anger and disappointment. I remember this place used to be one of the better ones. I'm so sorry to see this place to go down like this.

It's still the best Korean Restaurant I've been too! Was there the other night throwing my significant other a surprise birthday and the waitresses are quite kind. Between 12 of us they gave us 2 complimentary plates of their seafood pancake for his birthday. However, 5 meats between 8 people is good enough; don't be fooled if they say you need to order more. UPDATE THOUGH! They have a side-dish buffet style cart now! So, you no longer need to wait for them to refill your dishes - but do note that if you waste the sidedish it's $2 a plate added to your tab.

New Seoul Garden has bento plates that I love; tender meat and rice on one plate. There are no vegetables that take up more room than the meat itself. I had the spicy pork bento which had the right amount of spice and heat. The rice bowl looked very promising with meats, rice, and vegetables balancing out the dish. There is a heating grill on the table surface for those who want to grill their own meat. Unfortunately, 2 people or more at the table have to participate in this ritual. Usually the meals with come with various small side dishes that people can share aka "Family Style". The spicy kimchee and spicy potatoes are hot and spicy. If a side item is completely devoured, the waitress will refill at no charge. For just the food alone it's about 10 bucks per person and a few dollars more if they want to grill their own meat. The waitress was pretty friendly and came by often to make sure we were taken care. We had our own pitcher of water so that was good. It is certainly a place I will come back just for the meat alone.

3.75 Traditional Korean BBQ at your table. The Kalbi and Prawns were fresh and good, the 8 side dishes that come with your meal could have used a little more variety. I guess I'm use to Korean restaurants where the dishes are smaller but more of them and a larger variety. The kimchi soup was perfectly made, with enough spice to make your nose run. The Korean waitress was too funny. She kept trying to get us to eat more & more and actually started hand feeding my dinner date. Oh and the metal chop sticks were a nice touch.

Had dinner here on a weeknight. Even though they weren't very busy the service was slow. The two female servers were very nice and offered suggestions for specific dishes. We chose to go the bbq it ourselves route and selected marinated beef bulgogi and pork belly. The beef tasted great, but was sliced so thin that when I cooked it on the grill it melted away into nothing. The beef also stuck to the grill and pulled off in a stringy mess. The worst part of the meal was the pork belly. I've had it many times before in korean restaurants and this was gross. The pork skin was still attached to the belly and it was covered with hair!!!! Every piece was this way and not only that, it was partially frozen as well. Nasty!!! The seafood pancake was huge and tasted decent, but the middle was not fully cooked and tasted of liquid batter. There are so many other fantastic Korean bbq restaurants in beaverton, but this one is very lackluster.

3.5 five stars. The service gets 5 stars. Definitely did not let us run out of water and served our sides quickly and promptly. She even claimed to have made the spicy potatoes which were delicious. Aside from that, they kept looking at my date at the time and ignoring me when they came to talk to me. Don't know what that was about...but I certainly felt left out. Not that it would have a bearing on their ratings. The food was good. I had the chap chae...which was extremely oily than I'm used to. My date had the bipbimbop and even had our server stir it up for her. Wacky! $25 filled us up and provided us with leftovers. I would love to try the grill next time I go.
