AKA McM's Strip Mall De-lite, first cuzin' to the one in the Strip Mall on Cornell Rd. We are not impressed. We are depressed. I am not a big fan of the Mc Minimum Bros joints, however after moving I needed to find a new spot to meet my e-dates...gawd it's awful when you don't have much of a selection of local spots to meet an internet dating site match for your first official awkward meeting. At my old house it was a strip mall Starbucks..sort of an oxymoron since a major percentage of Starbucks are in strip malls. McM's in a strip mall? Awwk! After all, just about all McM;s Boys have going for them is the unique venues they have turned around/and/or plasticized. The White Eagel, former biker bar? Plasticized. The iconic Rcok Creek Tavern? ditto. Ok my whine is over. In any case, I dropped in here last week to check it out and see if I wanted to make this my "meet me at" spot. It's dismal. It's not cute or clever or even dumpy. It's NOTHING! It's poorly prepared food, sticky tables and meh brewskies served by people who think they are hip and cool but who secretly know they are working in a strip mall faux brew-pub serving mediocre beer and poor food prepared by chefs who have stepped one riser above Macky Dees. The tables needed bussing, I waited for someone to notice me for 10 minutes while the alleged serving staff chit chatted and finally bussed a table myself and sat down. The cool dude rushed over and brushed some crumbs and beer into my lap, told me they now have pizza and left to get my beer while i contemplated the minimal menu. I opted for french fries only..I have had good fries at a couple of places run by these guys...but these weren't them. Soggy and greasy, my fries tasted like Sysco seconds. This is not the place for me to try and make a good first impression. Perhaps I'll meet 'em at Sherri's instead. Or Taco Bell on the opposite corner. Honestly I really loathe McM's and hereby promise never to go unless it's for the music. Which never will be happening here at whatever cutsie name this place might have.

Dang I wish I had read the reviews before going, too late! We were in a hurry for lunch today and my husband and I availed ourselves of this particular McMenamins. We live about 2 miles away and have been here twice if that tells you anything. Lunchtime on a Friday there were 4 other patrons and the bartender was also the server and the cook for all I know. They have a fairly limited menu, salads, burgers and a few sandwiches. I had the Reuben and it was ok, the first few bites were good but after that the acidity of either the saurkraut or the dressing was too much for me I had to dip in ranch dressing to get half of it down. The tots sadly were not as I remembered them. They were really dry, hard and pretty much flavorless. My husband got the Dungeon Burger and says it was OK, nothing spectacular. It was grilled nicely and the presentation was good, but it was just average and not worth the money. The chowder was actually pretty good. It is thin, but was packed with potatoes, clams, onions and tomato and celery, obviously home made. Our bill was 21 without tip and we both had diet RC. It was certainly not worth the money and we probably won't be back.

Everybody knows I love me some McMenamins. I know they have their faults, but I'm a fanboy. I'm not ashamed. I haven't been to this particular McMenamins in almost a year, but I met a buddy of mine here for lunch. They automatically lost a star for being out of Copper Moon. I wait all year for Copper Moon to make its rounds, so being out is a big #fail in my book. This McMenamins is your usual strip mall type location. Parking in a big shared lot, no fancy building like some of the other McMenamins. I've never seen anyone working there who wasn't friendly. I've noticed that they can be a little slower than other McMenamins, but speed has never been something McMenamins has been known for. I noticed today that they now have pizza on the menu. I'd recommend ordering it a little well done--I like my pizza crispy, and it seemed a little undercooked today. Overall it's a good place to visit if you're in the area, but I wouldn't make a special trip.

Just like the other McMenamins, this place was good. They have good beer...Hammerhead and Terminator being one of my faves. They have good fries and good happy hour menu. It's nice to go here for the happy hour because everything is cheap and also Oregon has no SALES TAX! This place is close to where I lived in Oregon, so it's definitely worth going especially if you live in the Murray-Scholls area. They don't have a ton of selection of burgers, but I still go there for the food and beer.

We ate here because it was conveniently located near the friend that we were visiting while in town. The food was pretty slow to arrive and not terribly impressive. Fish and chips were bland and the cob salad really needed some help.

I've never been to a McMenamin's before, but I do frequent microbreweries. This place was quite nice. Located in a little strip mall, but going inside is like passing through a gateway to an old school pub. Cute decor, friendly wait staff, and some very impressive ales. Our waitress was very fast and incredibly friendly, she had no problem with my friend not being able to make up her mind on drinks or food, and when finding we loved dark ales brought us a free sample of their espresso stout on Nitro that was absolutely delicious. I had the blacksmith steak sandwich which was a great bite. Reasonable presentation, great flavor (the meat wasn't over seasoned, allowing the clean beef flavor to mix with the chili aoli), and a side of some better than normal French fries. My friend had the fish and chips which she absolutely devoured. I tried most of their ales and was very impressed. Their Terminator Stout was my favorite, a wonderfully dark stout with the bite and kick is a scotch ale. Their light ales include a raspberry and a boysenberry ale that taste a lot like a lambic. Very refreshing if you're into that sort of thing. Their IPA was nice and crisp; not as hoppy as I generally like, but some might consider that a good thing. Overall a great casual dining experience, will definitely come again.

Happy hour today was awesome! I don't get the slow service reviews. I always got super fast and attentive service. Maybe it's because I sit at the bar...

It's a great neighborhood hang out spot for me and my family. Great food and beverages for the adults (Wilbur Burger and Terminator for me) and fine options for the kids. Always a great value; including the happy hour! The atmosphere is always relaxed, which is great after a long day at work. Things can be a bit slow at times but always worth the wait.

I've been to a bunch of McMenamins and of course, am familiar with their generally sub-par service. It's part of the...charm? However, this one should step up their game as they have none of the perks of Edgefield, Kennedy School, etc. It's in a STRIP MALL. First off, it took forever to even be acknowledged after we sat down. To the point that we had to go up to the bar to get any attention. The servers then ARGUED over who would help our table. Really? In front of the customer no less, awesome. And they were out of pizza dough. On a Friday. Like I said, with neat ones like Kennedy School and whatnot, this one just isn't worth it.

It was OK. The service wasn't the best, but there only appeared to be one waitress. The place was pretty clean and it had the typical McMenamins offerings.

My only complaint about this visit was about the other patrons. I don't know why people feel they are the only ones that matter when they go out to a public place. Of course, I'm not going to mark down the restaurant that serves them, but I suppose it does reflect on them in some way. Overall, the food was standard decent McMenamins fare (showing a general improvement over the past couple years). The service was fine this time (we were lucky to get the waitress we did, rather than the waiter that helped the next table over). It's your standard strip mall McMenamins, but they tend to be good at making you forget you're in a strip mall when you're there. As always, there's something unique to each individual restaurant. Oh, the pear sidecar was quite good.

It's a McMenamin's, so it's basically the same as any of them, food and beer-wise. The service here has been very prompt and friendly. The decor is fine considering it's in a strip mall. I'm happy to have it as an option within walking distance of my house.

A great stop on a hot summer day. I enjoyed perfectly done wings with a salad--satisfying pub food. My son has been eyeing the UFO burger with bacon, cheese, and thin onion rings--it was worth the wait, juicy and full of natural beef flavor. Our server was efficient and helpful about our Passport questions--the UFO burger was a prize for this last stop of this section of our passport. We'll be back.

Ambiance: lacking, for a McMenamin's. Location: Convenient (for me, at least=), but it's a strip mall. A janky strip mall, at that. Service: Just fine. Nothing bad to say on that front. Beer: It's a McMenamin's. Give me a Rubinator and I'm happy. Food: It's a McMenamin's. As per usual, my burger was good enough, and I was left wishing I had just a few more tots.

My faith has been hopefully restored in Mcmenamins.. After golf a co worker and myself visited the oak hills location at his request, so I went along despite my previous deep seated despise of the consistently mediocre flat burgers, and horrendous service. Now I can't say the service at that location was anything close to speedy.. But it was friendly and the burger was nothing I had remembered of Mcmenamins .. This was a thick patty, juicy and the salad and beer were on point. Next day after explaining the visit to my wife she wanted to try our old stomping grounds at this Murray Allen location, a place we had been visiting almost weekly for the period of 15 years until we were so disappointed we could not return. And I have to say it was on point again.. First the waiter Dedrick greeted us friendly and exuberant, and got the beers, cider, and tots flowing quickly. The burgers were not far behind despite Dedrick warning us of the kitchen being 15-20 behind. The food was very good and the service was enough for us to start visiting once again! It's nice.. Like we are coming home again. Well done! Don't let it slip!

Great place for cheap happy hour. I love McMenamins beer. The hammerhead and terminator are delicious and the ruby is my personal fav. Get some Cajun tots to go with your beer. The pizza at this McMenamins is good, too.

So I came in with my other half and ordered our usual drinks with appetizer. Our waitress was really great and awesome. However another person had dropped a glass which shattered on our table as well in my face. The only words I heard from apparently from the manager was "what happened?" No "sorry" or "are you ok?" The girl who dropped the glass cleaned a little and left not to be seen for a while. The manager then came back and asked are you waiting for food??? Again.... no apologies. Needless to say kudos to our waitress who was so awesome. Manager I'm sorry but if shattered glass hits a person in the face you may want to learn skills to handle the situation better. In other words you performed poorly.

I'm a big fan of McMenamins but after today I am a but disappointed. It was my first time with my fiance coming in to then Murray location..the place as nearly empty..the tables are metal and they smell really bad. I ordered a burger and asked for the tots...usually when I order it at the cedar hills the people get me the Cajun...this girl gave me the normal tots, she brought us some spice hardly anything and charged us 50 cents for it...the dessert wasn't all that good either. ..overall the food was not good here and I will never come again here..I wish I had just gone to the cedar hills McMenamins they are by far the best. .I don't recommend this location never come here I highly recommend you cedar hills location..

Walked in and read the sign that said 'Please Seat Yourself'. Decided to look at the specials on the chalkboard for a couple seconds before someone behind the counter yelled, "SIT ANYWHERE YOU'D LIKE!" in a somewhat condescending tone and if we were idiots and didn't see the sign right in front of us. Blah. Somewhat slower service at this McMenamins and the decor isn't as nice as some of their other establishments. They do have shuffleboard. Our server was friendly but really took his time doing things like taking our drink order and running my card. The Dungeon Burger was good but the patty wasn't made in house. Definitely pub food. The Portland Dip was decent. Cajun tots were delicious as always but had too much cajun seasoning on them and the ranch was different than what is usually served at Mcmenamins. Beer was good as always.

WHAT I LEARNED THIS SUMMER: The last time I popped in for a bite and beer I recalled why I don't come here as often as I used to: I learned! I learned that service is slow irregardless of the number of customers. I learned that I don't care for the amount of salt that is used in their food prep - especially overwhelming amount in their soup (reminds me of eating at a place where the cooks are all chain smokers). Always underwhelmed by the interior decor which reminds me of a run down Godfather's Pizza circa 1985. Don't get me started on the happy hour crowd that hangs out here and thinks it's still cool. Wake up. I finally learned that aside from the couple cool concert venues they own, the McMenamins brothers have seen their better days and the last of me. It's one time too many for mediocre food, mediocre decor & mediocre service. No more for me.

Went there tonight and had a great time during happy hour. The service was exceptional. The food was great. I had the signature McMenamins hot dog and fries. I also had a milkshake. My friends had beer, pizza and grilled cheese. It was good too:) the atmosphere is awesome.

Honestly one of the worst experiences. Got there at 5:20 during happy hour and it took at least 20 min for somebody to even recognize we had entered. Came in with my mom and got HORRIBLE service. Ordered 2 things of Cajun tots, 1 slice of pepperoni, garden salad, and a mini cheeseburger. At about 40 minutes later we had to finally get up and see where our food was. Took another 20 min to get out. When it got to our table I was disturbed with what was there. We had received a slice of COLD cheese pizza with slices of raw pepperoni on top. There was barely any salad on the plate, the "hamburger" was SO tiny, and the tots were overly fried. So upset we decided to try and just pay and leave. The waiter was completely rude about it and wasn't helpful at all. Overall the WORST experience I've had at a restaurant/pub in a while.

Sunday, we arrived before it was opened (our bad) so we left to run some errands and came back at 12.30p, half an hour after open time. There were approximately ten people in the whole restaurant. Onto two staff. One in the bar, one in the kitchen. Here we are, half an hour after ordering and still no food. I get it, they are totally understaffed, but come on! Call the manager and ask for someone else to show up. Finally another server showed up. Kitchen was still understaffed. We got our food at the forty-five-ish minute mark. I have to give it to the guy manning the kitchen, everything was delicious and piping hot. So kudos to him for working it! Our server (Justine) was polite and attentive, but she was clearly tired and overworked. It's a pity because it's a nice location with plenty of seats, several tables for big groups and what I think it is a shuffle board table (never played it, so I'm assuming it's that)

  • Jason B.

I've never been a big fan of McMenamins's just because the service is usually terrible. This one was alright though. I came here on a Friday night with a few friends to play some shuffle board and drink some beers. It's one of the better locations I've been to. The waiting staff was super friendly and responsive. I'll probably come here again.

  • Nellie G.

If you don't have something really particular in mind, it's the perfect spot. Fairly simple menu with a few artisan flavors... I always like the tots and a drink. This particular mc is always very clean and they have a shuffle board. If you're looking for a place to get in get out, then it's probably not the choice for you, but if you're looking for somewhere to just hang out, PERFECT!!

The worst service I have ever had in my life! My family and I showed up to the half empty place famished and in need of beverages. We sat in the outside seating area and no server so much as looked in our direction for at least fifteen minutes. I went inside three different times and asked for service before some stoned server offered us anything to drink. We ordered food at the same time as drinks, not knowing when we might see him again. Turned out to be a wise decision. He didn't come back with drinks. I had to go back inside to see if they were brewing our beer special or something. In the end, it took two hours to get a couple of beers and get our food. Our children were totally spent, it being 10pm when it was all said and done. And the worst part? The server didn't offer any sincere apology or a beer on the house. I will never, ever go back to this restaurant again!

The last time I was here, I was with 99% the staff of a nearby middle school, and the staff at this McMenamins has absolutely no problem making sure we were taken care of. Sure, maybe they weren't exactly super friendly, but they were a little preoccupied with at least 40 very, very *ahem* thirsty patrons, so I wasn't tiffed about that at all. I think the staff could sense our urgency, and they were nothing short of extremely quick and efficient, which I definitely appreciated. I didn't order food, but those who did were not disappointed. Tots came out quickly and other entrees were served within a totally reasonable amount of time. While not as ornate and detailed as the other Mcmenamins locations, this location did fulfill its duty of providing everyone with a nice place to sit comfortably, beer in hand, swapping our favorite "you won't believe what this kid did" stories.

If you want to have a drink, go here. If you want food, don't. This place is near my house so we have gone a handful of times. (my BF likes the beer selection). Every time that I have gotten anything besides a cheeseburger, I have been dissapointed. I made the mistake of ordering the chili once (yuck!). It's definately hit or miss here, the staff is nice which always helps convince me to give it "one more try."

My husband and I have made an effort to visit several McMenamins in the northwest, and while we prefer the ones located in renovated historic properties, we don't ignore the ones in strip malls, like this one. And, as far as the food, beer, and decor go, it's more or less exactly like every other McMenamins. Their beer is excellent and their food is exactly the quality you'd expect for the price point - solidly tasty pub food, no complaints. The atmosphere is relaxed. It's perhaps a little too relaxed, and that's where the problems begin. This place has the SLOWEST service of any McMenamins I've ever been to, possibly of any restaurant I've ever been to, period. It's super close to a friend's house, so I've been twice now, but both times we have waited several minutes to be approached after sitting down - and since this is seat-yourself, that means we didn't even have our menus yet. Once we ordered the food, it took an unreasonably long time to arrive. The first time, I believe we waited about a half an hour; the second time it was closer to an hour. Fortunately, we had our tots to tide us over, but there were only about a dozen other patrons in the entire restaurant at the time, so the delay was inexplicable. Once we finished eating, it took another hour to get the waiter to even notice us so that we could ask for our check. At first I thought he was just respectfully letting us finish our beers and enjoy our chat, but as both ran down we started to feel pretty neglected. When we finally did manage to grab him, we made him stand there and wait while we got our cards out so he wouldn't abandon us again. In the future, if we're in the neighborhood and really craving McMens, we'll just meander northwards a bit to the Cedar Hills location. Still in a strip mall, but at least I've never felt like they didn't want my money.

  • Melisa V.

this place isn't even close to as bad as the other two reviews make it out to be. my husband and I have been here on several occasions and never had a single complaint about the food. out of the mcmenamins we've been to, the food here is actually MUCH better than many others! we both really like the portland dip, which is is turkey french dip and cajun tots. today my husband had an italian chicken grinder which was pretty good too. the arnold palmer I had was super sweet, so the server gladly switched my drink to a straight iced tea without any question. the service has always been good here and the food is consistent. if you're in the mood for a sandwich and it the area, it's a good place to go.

    (4)
  • Scott B.

Not a McMenamins you want to go to if you're looking for fast or even moderate service. The staff is leisurely about everything and that's not changing anytime soon, if previous reviews are any measure. A clean table to sit down at in the main-area is also a "maybe".

  • Jamie H.

Just visited this McMenamins for dinner. I ordered the Hamilton Burger with tots and my husband got the Wilbur's Burger. They weren't very busy but we waited for 45 minutes to get our food. We didn't mind much because we weren't really in a hurry. When we finally got our food, I wasn't terribly impressed with my burger. It was a bit dry. My husband loved his but we both agreed that we didn't get as many tots as we would like. This definitely isn't my favorite McMenamins. We probably won't come back to this location.

Am I supposed to like McMenamins just because I live in Oregon now? I feel kinda bad to say it but this place is crap. Food sucks, beer is sub par, tables are sticky and the patrons are sleazy. The only thing McMenamins is good for is their happy hour burger. It's not a good burger but if you're craving something half a step above fast food you can't beat $3.50 with soggy fries (which I personally choose to leave right on the plate). And by the way, I'm from California and even I know it's not McMinimums...if you were born here you have no excuse.

    (2)
  • Frank Z.

OK, so I live near this place and have given them more than a few try's. This place is terrible. The food is ok but way too expensive for what you get. The menu is small and the service sucks. Every time we have been there we have to practically beg somebody to take our order. We have walked out after waiting twenty minutes for somebody to even ask what we wanted to drink (which never happened). We have tried other McMenamins too with the same crappy service. Sorry guys, but with the economy the way it is one would think service is the key to keep people coming back. I will not be back.

There's some questionable doubt that you're reading this review because you don't know what kind of food you'll get at McMenamins. They're almost standard in their menu with most of the restaurants serving the same beer, whiskey, wine and cajun tater tots. The latter are awesome and each location seems to fry them up almost as perfectly as McMini manipulates the historical scenery of each venue. In fact, you probably wouldn't spot the difference in the McNamins (as a friend speaks it) empire unless you frequented several occasions all the time. What do you know, I do that! You're in luck, I've tortured myself with many late night meals at several of their establishments. Which is why, unforuntately for the black food hole of Murray & Allen this pub doesn't stack up. We work late and in Portland Metro it can be a tough task to find a late night place to sit down and park yourself for dinner. A real dinner, maybe with some organic offerings. Mick-Men-Amins delivers on that requirement by serving Country Natural Beef from Oregon, hand cut french fries, scratch soups made daily and pretty good beer. What seperates each restaurant in the republic of McMini in my opinion is the kitchen. It seems that this one has hired a chef straight from the culinary school at McDonald's or maybe the Shari's across the street. You see most of these places have specialities. They all serve a couple menu items that they don't serve at other joints. For instance Murray and Allen was running a pretty good Chimichanga special, filled with carnitas and perfectly fried. They offer Pizza, which I haven't tried, but almost didn't finish a burger because it was so bland and litterally caked in mayonaise. The Greenburg location on the other hand has different hours, and they serve "Lucy's Masterpeice" which is an excellent hot Turkey sandwich. My favorite in the area goes to Scholls Ferry, not much further away, which does some incredible chicken wings and we even had Butternut Squash Ravioli that was excellent. There in lies the conundrum, the Scholls Ferry locale seems to have an actual living breathing person that can cook behind the counter. They aren't simply following a by the numbers approach that is kililng the Murray and Allen food supply. So... to sum up this review in a sentence because you probably shouldn't read the whole thing anyway: Not all McMenamins are created equal, this one is good for a fried snack, a drink, and not much else.

This used to be my favorite Beaverton McMenamins. But, not anymore. The last few times my husband and I have gone to this location, service has been ridiculously slow. Also, I am sad to say that the quality of the food seems to have gone down too. Time for me to start frequenting a different McMenamins.

  • Josh W.

If I could leave fewer stars I would. I don't typically expect a lot in regards to service at McM's but come back for the beer. Tonight may have the worst service & food experience ever and that's compared to a time we waited an hour and forty minutes for food. Great beer, everything else is meh.

WAITED 15 minutes for our drink order. WAITED an hour and a half for food to come. It was incorrect. Servers completely avoid eye contact as afraid you might complain about the wait. Coffee is $$ considering they never ask if you want more. Think all beverages are not the standard bottomless drinks got charged twice for lemonade. Only drink refilled but had to ask! Stood at counter for help and was completely ignored. Overall not worth it by a long shot! Horrible service. Wait way to long for food. Perhaps they were out killing the cow. Tired menu. So failed completely no good food no good service no good drinks. McMeniman brothers you really need to step back and look how horrible your restaurants have become. Sad end to an empire. We won't be back.

This location has the worst customer service. I have been going to this location for years and finally stopped putting myself through the dining nightmare. I recently called in an order to go and was put on hold, with no one returning to take my order. After 12 minutes, I hung up. I wrote to the email contact and complained about the poor service, and to date, I have yet to receive a reply. The food can take up to 1.5 to 2 hours to arrive at your table, so don't be in a hurry. It's not the fault of the employees, but the poor management. I have been told numerous times by the employees that they continue to ask for support by the managers and never receive it. Apparently the owners or managers of this location never received the memo on how important customer service is. The only way to fix the problem, is for patrons to stop going. There are tons of other McMenamins, Cedar Hills, Hall Blvd for example, that will appreciate my money and patronage. It's unfortunate for them, as I am a customer that actually takes the time to compliment, more than I complain.
