Boriken Restaurant Menu

Sorry, We are updating this restaurant menu details.

Was hungry for a quick dinner but wanted something different. Barikon fit the bill. Ordered arroz con pollo and was very fresh and well seasoned. Not the largest portion (comes in half a coconut shell) but I was somewhat full by the end. One of the better arroz on pollo dishes I've had in Beaverton. Will be back to try mofongo.

I came here for easter dinner with my parents and my boyfriend. This was the first time trying this place and i am glad that i did! I am puerto rican and it made me feel as if i was back in my home land =) . The food was very delicious and very filling. The only down side is that service is very slow because they are under staffed from what i noticed other than that the place is awesome!! I will definitely be coming back here. =)

I'm a puertorrican living in Oregon and we don't have many options about puertorrican food,so I'm glad know a puertorrican restaurant. I started with alcapurias, my wife tried the mofongo relleno de pollo and I ate Can Can pork chop. Our drinks Malta... They have a great environment, the place look like a Fonda of Puerto Rico and they play puertorrican music, salsa, etc. The service was very personal and friendly.

I've driven past it after nearly everyday and when the husband said he wanted to get some dinner after a walk up around the Rose Garden, I suggested Boriken this evening. I had no idea what type of food. I didn't even really remember the name, just the bright signs on the outside and its general location. The food was amazing. We've never been to a Puerto Rican restaurant before and had no idea what we were getting. We ordered a couple of dishes, the sandwich and two pork skewers, to split. The skewers came with plantain, fried crispy and wonderful, tender cubes of pork, a barbeque-like sauce and a great garlic sauce. The sandwich features fried plantain instead of bread and had chicken in their creole sauce. If I liked BBQ sauce, I think I would have loved theirs. Mildly spicy and not too sweet, it was an excellent dip for the pork according to the husband who likes his BBQ sauces. For me, it was the garlic dipping sauce . . . well, I'd love to steal the recipe. The chicken with creole sauce was delightful and another sauce I need to learn to make. We got a bit too much plantain for my husband's tastes, a function of what we ordered. When we go back, and we will be back, we will order an entree and an appetizer to split. The service was good. Food took a little longer that many other places, this is not fast food, but the waitress let us know that in advance. She also explained what a lot of the foods were and answered our questions about "What did those people order? What is that?" The restaurant is small, like a dozen tables, with benches that pull out instead of chairs. Parking is not the best, but the place is immaculate, the food is good, and the people welcoming.

We kept driving by this place and got curious. After seeing the pictures and reviews, we decided to give this place a try as we never had Puerto Rican food before. First off, the place is really cute. I love the decor. Very warm/"homey" feel to it. We were greeted by the owner. She was so nice and welcoming. She took the time to explain different items of the menu as we were new to Puerto Rican food. My boyfriend and I shared the mofongo con pollo and the yucca rellena con pollo. Both of those tasted delicious and we are more than full. I might have to go to the gym after everything I just ate... Ok after I digest some more! There are many other items on the menu I would like to try: the Puerto Rican lasagna, the potato ball appetizer and the banana fritters! I am definitely coming back!

Really disappointed in this place today. To be fair, they did have a large party and warned us that it would take longer than usual to get our food, but we didn't get served until almost an hour and a half after we ordered. I thought for sure it would have been worth the wait, but it really wasn't. Both dishes we ordered were very dry and had very little chicken. They were so concerned with the other party that our meal was an after thought. Really bummed because I enjoyed this place the first time I went.

Great place to eat! Loved the family feel and service. This was our first time there and the owner explained the different options very well. Loved the food and atmosphere :)

I'm a little confused as to how this restaurant is getting four and five stars. With that said, I'd like to try this place one more time in case I'm missing something... I came here a few days ago with my husband and friend. The new day before, we came to a packed restaurant on a Sunday at 1:30 pm. There was one table left outside so we sat there. Since it was going to be a late lunch we were hungry. When the waiter came out with our water, he prefaced with a warning that the food was going to take 45 mins. As saddened as I was, I extremely appreciative that we were told upfront about the wait for food. I would've been agitated if we had ordered and had to wait for 45 mins for our meal considering how hungry we were. We left and thanked them for being considerate of our time. We came back the next night and there were just two other tables occupied so glad it wasn't crowded. We ordered the fried plantains as an appetizer and I ordered the pork mofongo. The fried ripened plantains were alright. Very greasy. I'm okay with some grease but this was a bit much. The dipping sauce was good too. But as my friend pointed out, it reminded her of the Big Mac sauce. That's not a bad thing; it was just OK. My mofongo. Hmmm. High expectations, so-so satisfaction. It was difficult to eat. I had nearly eaten all the marinated veggies and pork on the top layer only to find out that the unseen portion in the wooden goblet was mashed up plantains. So at the end, I just ate nothing but mashed up plaintain, which is a huge portion of the meal. The pork-tough and overlooked...not sure if it's meant to be chewy. I didn't know what to expect of the pork, since I've never had a dish like this. But I was hoping it would be a little fatty and tender like pork belly. The marinated vegetables-I wasn't impressed either. It tasted like some kind of tomato sauce but it was special or exciting. Like I said, I'll try again.

Prices seemed a little spendy at first glance- but well worth every penny. Everything is handmade when you order it if you have a chance to try anything made with the plantings, do it they're so delicious!! Especially the trifungo's are really amazing. The server we had was super helpful and passionate about her country's food. We will be back!!

Took my family along with my mom and Abuela, both native Puerto Ricans. We had Mofongo, Bistec, rice and beans, and much more. Great food. Authentic Puerto Rican. Boriqua!!!!

This was my first experience with Puerto Rican food so I'm by no means an expert, but I thought everything was delicious. For starters, we shared the Rellenos De Papa and the Empanadillas, both of which were a hit with everyone at the table. The Rellenos De Papa are fried balls of mashed potatoes with flavorful ground beef in the center. The Empanadillas were somewhere between empanadas and jamaican meat patties, super yummy. Though, admittedly, if you put things in pie dough, I will like it. Both appetizers were served with the same creamy, zesty sauce. Entrees were also tasty. I got the Trifongo with Conch and Ajillo sauce. I loved it. Never had conch before but it reminded me of squid or octopus. My mother was considerably less adventurous and got a Trifongo with chicken and garlic sauce. She wasn't thrilled with it, but I stole some of hers and I though it was spectacular, so her opinion is wrong. The Monfongos/Trifongos seem expensive but they're really a lot of food... Unless you're close to starvation, you'll probably end up with some leftovers. My husband, a man of habit, got the Arroz con Pollo, which he orders whenever it's available on a menu. He said it was the best he's ever had. This is pretty high praise, considering the amount of preparations he's probably consumed. We couldn't possibly have had any room for dessert, which is a shame, because I'm sure it's fabulous. Having been in the customer service industry for much of my twenties, I don't really care that much about service, especially if the food is good, but I feel obligated to mention it. The service was pretty decent. They are clearly family run and it shows, they seem passionate about the food. They are right to be. We will return.

This was awesome, everyone enjoyed themselves. The food and service were great. I would go again, and again. I have told several of my friends and acquaintances about this place. It is worth recommending.

Update: been here 3 more times. They are very nice people but the food is not the same every night. It depends on the cook. They should: even out the kitchen, have faster service, have liquor license or BYOB (they dont let you drink there!, and open on Fridays! Good but no cigar. Original posting: We came here on Wednesday to avoid the mad rush of the past weekend. The service is very nice. For appetizers we ordered alcapurrias and stuffed yuca and they were fresh and delish. I had the mofongo wkth conch. Mofongo is mashed plantains with pork cracklings, and garlic. They serve it with beef, pork, shrimp, or conch. Mine was spectacular! Just like home. My husband ordered fried pork chops with rice mixed with beans, my daughter ordered a shrimp and rice stew creole style. Needless to say, the flavor is authentic, the place is clean, and the syaff very welcoming. I am elated! Ah i almost forgot, if you ignore the rice and beans you have perfect paleo

If you go on a Sunday, be prepared to wait. The two owners where the ones bussing tables and taking your order (all the tables were full). They looked overwhelmed! Still they were very friendly. Ordered alcapurrias, sopa de mondongo and arroz con gandules. Everything was good but the best was the arroz con gandules, it was so freaking delicious! I ordered a pastelito de guayaba but strangely it was served cold, like they took it out of the refrigerator and served it. It would have been better tasting if it was warmed. Overall, I will come back to taste the rest of the menu, just not when I'm starving or in a hurry!

I had been wanting to try this place! It is unassumingly tucked in among the less glamorous businesses of Beaverton. Hand painted signage, decorated with corrugated tin, it is endearing. It was comfortable, and inviting. The staff was friendly and welcoming. And about the food. I didn't know the items on the menu, but the owner gave us a great explanation of the options and helped us select dishes. The food was delicious, interesting, new, and substantial. I had the pork mofongo with the garlic sauce. All parts were well prepared. I will be back!

My father is from Puerto Rico and I have visited several times so I know the food. And THIS is delicious Puerto Rican food. There was also a live band that was fun and worked the crowd. The place is small and busy on a Sunday evening so be prepared. Just a little ma and pa place so don't expect fancy, expect family. The atmosphere was very relaxed and island-like in that way. I almost didn't write this review because I don't want the word to get out to the point that I will have to wait a long time for a table. But, a restaurant should know when they are doing well and Boriken is on point!

  • Meagan B.

My partner was missing her childhood food, so we tried Boriken's after reading the reviews. We got tostones with garlic sauce, bistec with grilled onions, chicken with garlic, and fried plantains (not on the menu). The tostones were delicious, as were the plantains, but the steak and chicken were dry. Also, everything comes served with lettuce underneath which wilts from the heat of the food- it was a bit weird and unappetizing. All in all, it was fine, but nothing spectacular.

Every time we get a new restaurant in Beaverton I am always ecstatic. So I was very pleased to see this new place on Canyon. Its only been there for 7 weeks. The people who work there are extremely friendly. Since it's still pretty new it's quiet inside. The place is warm and bright. It feels like your transported from the gloom of Oregon to a sunny local. We got the following: Tostones Con Mojo De Ajo- Fried Plantains With Garlic Sauce Arepas- Fried Dough Mofongo Con Carne Frita- Stuffed With Chunks Of Fried Pork Pechuga Al Ajillo -Chicken Breast In Garlic Sauce The fried plantains and dough were savory. The garlic chicken was great but the fried pork was out of this world. The food is great quality and very filling. Stop by and welcome this place to the neighborhood. It will be worth your time.

I was out and about with my husband. We were looking for a place to eat that was tasty. I asked a shopkeep of one of our favorite game shops where to get some good food close by. This was suggested and i was super happy it was suggested. I am always up for trying something new. The food was fantastic and the owner was so very sweet and kind. However, if you are in a hurry i suggest choosing somewhere else. Everything is made to order and takes sometime to make. I personally don't take stars away for the swiftness of the food especially if it's as tasty as here. My husband and I will be back over and over again. In fact its on my list of places to take my in laws.

Visiting family in town from the right (east) coast. This place is legit! Would hold up against some of the better Puerto Rican restaurants in NYC, Philly, etc. The lechon mofongo is spot on, the arroz con pollo is superb. The rest of the menu looked pretty legit based on offerings. Will definitely hit this spot again. Portland.... Support this new spot. Your Spanish food options are very limited and most suck. The Cubo (de Cuba) is a no go. Bleh... Cherish the Boriken.

This was my first foray into Puerto Rican food, and I have to say it was a decent experience, but perhaps the cuisine is just not for me. The people here are very sweet and helpful with explaining the menu to you. We got a Trifongo and a chicken with garlic sauce to share. The Trifongo was huge and the plantains went well with the interesting spices and other ingredients. The pork was cooked perfectly: juicy and had a great bite. The juices from the dish was a bit on the oily side though and seeped to the bottom of the wooden bowl it came in. When it first came out of the kitchen, it was hot and a pleasure to eat, but towards the end, when you got to the bottom and the dish had cooled, it just got a bit too heavy to finish. The chicken dish was appetizing and garnished well with shredded peppers and onions. It came with rice and beans. Overall though, this dish was just alright. We also ordered a flan for dessert. It had a nice not-too-sweet flavor. But its consistency was denser than other flans, which made it seem overcooked. Even though the portion sizes were generous, the prices still seemed a tad high.

My wife is Puerto Rican and I have often enjoyed the island's cuisine, but mostly home-cooked meals and the occasional trip. This was the first time at a mainland Puerto Rican place. Mofongo, alcapurrias, chicharrones of chicken (wish they had pork), rice and fried pork, as well as the tostones were amazing. There are regional variations and differences in recipes from family to family, but it pretty much resembles what I have eaten before; I.e. It is quite genuine!. Puerto Rican food is mostly fried and often heavy. The portions are big and by the time we finished our perfect Puerto Rican style flan, we were ready to be wheeled out on our rumps! This place gets a five despite the fact that it is not the refined culinary experience you can find in high end Latino fusion restaurants or even in Old San Juan. This is the food you will find in a small town mom and pop restaurant off the beaten path: solid, filling, tasty at a reasonable price. It has no pretensions and achieves its goal with flare.

The goods: clean, new, unique menu items, smiley and friendly staff, the food. The so-so's: price is extremely high for lunch, they need a lunch menu. I spent $34 for two lunches with only one soda and no appys, we didn't splurge either. Had to search for items under $16. Music was very loud that made normal conversation difficult. Fine for a dance club, not so much for an expensive lunch spot. The verdict? I'll be back but only for dinner when spending this kind of dough. Can't to try some more of their cool new stuff!

    (4)
  • Caro M.

$14.95 for chicken Mofongo might at first seem high, but even on the island you find the same price in better quality restaurants. (Sometimes even higher!) Would I like a cheaper price? Hell yea! But seeing as how this is the ONLY Puerto Rican restaurant for MILES, I'm okay for now because I expect to pay up for satisfying my craving so thoroughly. I look forward to getting around to tasting the whole menu!!!

My husband and I were taking a road trip to Portland from Tacoma, WA to do some Christmas shopping and decided to try this restaurant out since it got 5 stars on Yelp. Since my husband was born and raised in Puerto Rico he was more than willing to try this restaurant out. We were very happy we did. There are only a few PR restaurants in the Seattle-Tacoma area and none of them are authentic, as my husband says. We had the bacalaitos as appetizers, churrasco and can can for our main dishes along with tostones-everything was delicious! My husband talked about a special seafood dish he use to eat back home to the owner and even though it was not on the menu, the chef came out to talk to my husband and told him he could make it for him. I haven't seen my husband react so happily to food like he did when we ate at Boriken. It made me happy too, to see him happy because he hasn't been back to Puerto Rico in many years. We wanted dessert, but we were too stuffed to order any. The owner and the chef were very friendly and my husband enjoyed talking to them both about food and living in PR. The restaurant was very nicely decorated and clean. We wish this place was closer to our home in Tacoma, but will definitely come back again next time we are in Portland. We would even make the two hour drive down just to eat at this restaurant!

Food here is delicious. We got the fried plantain appetizer and then two kinds of mofongo. Everything was full of flavor and super filling. We'll be back for sure!!!!

Ok food, but they don't seem ready to accommodate a group. My three stars is based on the food as we didn't call ahead, just keep the lack of group skills in mind. The food was tasty at times, but a bit greasy, salty and heavy. Avoid it: if you are watching your diet or aren't adventurous. Go there: if you want to have some Puerto Rican food that isn't all bad.

Had the mini Chicken Mofongo with white garlic sauce lunch special. Recommend highly as do other reviewers. Colleague had the same, but with pork and was also impressed. Lost one star for long service (one person working the dining area and also assisting the kitchen) - may be a Monday thing. Will return to try more of the menu. Looks pricey, but quality. And you can't beat a PR place where PR folks frequent.

  • Gabrielle T.

We ate there and thought the food was good. We did think the food was over priced for what you got. We ended up spending about 40.00 for lunch. The staff was nice. The food is not spicy at all so if you like that kind of thing you will like this place. For a 40 dollar lunch I also would expect the place to be a little nicer.

Came here with 3 Boricuas. All of us were very happy. Everything was delicious, especially the Mofongos. Food is authentic. atmosphere, one could be in the cordillera central. Service as warm as the island itself. Definitely coming back.

Just like abuela makes it. I was so happy to have found this place. They stayed open later to feed us. The menu is very good and so authentic. Mmmmmmmmmmmm mmm mmm! Cannot say enough good things about our visit. Will go back next time we're in town! Gracias gracias gracias!

Fantastic! I ordered the pan fried salmon with the blanca de ajo sauce. The salmon was cooked perfectly and the sauce is ridiculously delicious. I didn't want rice on the side, so the waiter substituted fried plantains for me - also pretty amazing. If you find yourself driving down Canyon Road in Beaverton, you must stop by for authentic Peurto Rican food!

Great food and atmosphere. A little salty and disappointing flan were the only let down. Tostones were on point, mofongo was amazing, owners were very nice and around plenty for good service.

Delicioso! Taste like Mami is in the kitchen. Friendly and helpful staff... excellent chef, amazing taste of the islands finest foods. El mofongo de cangrejo is superb, and the owner is super friendly. Que viva Puerto Rico!!!

I was soooo hoping to love this place as I'm a huge fan of Puerto Rican food. We came here for lunch and got the arroz con pollo and the pork mofongo with white sauce. Prices for lunch special were great. I wish I could say the same for the food. The arroz con pollo was so dry-- like that "get stuck in the middle of you esophagus" type of dry. It gave me indigestion afterwards. And the mofongo was too salty. Salty enough that you really start wanting something to refresh your palate by the time your half done. The wait staff was very friendly and attentive though.

Oye Dan G. Just because you've visited different islands in the Caribbean doesn't mean you know everything about local food! Boriken is an authentic Puerto Rican restaurant. I've never had banana fritters filled with vegetables. Boriken makes the alcapurrias as we make them in PR. About bacalaitos, these are supposed to be greasy! That's how we like them! Btw, there is no bread in the bacalaitos which is what you said in your comment. This may be the case in the island of Guadalupe or some of the other island but not in Puerto Rico. If your experience was so disappointing, why would you want to visit this restaurant again, which according to you, people there are arrogant, unpleasant, and boss people around as to what they should order? I've dealt with the same people each and every time and they've always been extremely nice to me and to their customers. Bottom line, your review makes no sense... MY OWN PERSONAL REVIEW: BORIKEN ROCKS!!!

  • Clifford E.

This is the closest Puerto Rican restaurant in 300 miles! Food is spot on, they moved a chef out here straight from the island. Portions are plentiful and prices reasonable. The decor is wonderful and in the coming weeks, they will be adding beer and wine as part of the menu. Parking is a little tough as they share it with other businesses but this is defitnely a must visit if you are in Beaverton.

The Arroz con Pollo is so delicious! I highly recommend it! It is hard to find restaurants that are not part of a chain in Beaverton. Let's keep this one here!

Please support this restaurant!!! We are completely addicted to the chicken mofongo with white sauce, and are deathly afraid this restaurant will close and deprive us of it. They're not, from what I can tell, in a good location nor do they seem to be good at the whole running a restaurant thing (seriously slow service with no chips & salsa to make up for it, limited parking, sometimes a bit much with the hard selling on dishes/appetizers, clunky bench chairs that look good but are inconvenient for diners, closed on Friday nights & Saturdays). Very mom-and-pop figuring it out vibe. BUT, overlooking all of that, they have consistently amazing food (just about everything I've tried here has been absolutely fresh-made and delicious) and the owners are extremely friendly. As another reviewer pointed out, it's not really a group place and if you're in any kind of hurry (like want to stop by there for your 1 hour lunch), I would definitely call ahead and phone in your order. UPDATE: Ugh. Yelpers. Stop making the restaurant so busy. We can't even get to go orders any more, because they're too packed. :P On the plus side, it's still amaze-balls good.

I had heard great things about Boriken so my wife and I went on a Sunday evening. We had to seat outside. I was prepared for a lengthy wait for food, because it says so on their website. I will not knock them for how long it takes food to be prepared. However, I will knock them for the service. The waitress passed by our table at least 4 times and never stopped to offer a menu or get a drink order. Finally after about 35 minutes, we had our first contact with the waitress. She took our orders, and since it would take a while I ordered dessert along with the main meal (since I did not know when I may get a chance to order again). We ordered the trifongo (mine with chicken and white garlic sauce), my wife with crab and ajillo sauce (butter garlic sauce). They were out of of alpacurrias and pasteles, so we ordered rellenos de papa. Finally when our order came, it looked they brought a mofongo not trifongo (trifongo has cassava along with green and sweet plantains). I asked the waitress what did she bring me and she said she did not know. Our appetizer came after our meal, not before. I was hoping the food would more than make up for the horrible service experience, but alas it was not to be. The mofongo was very bland so were the rellenos de papa. I do not know if the chef has never heard of salt, or just forgot. I barely made it through a third of my food before deciding it was not worth it. Then our waitress came to get our dessert order. When informed that we had already ordered dessert she was confused. We had a flan which was fantastic. So 2.5 hours and $60 later we left very disappointed. I was looking forward to making this restaurant a regular place to go to, but they managed to dissuade me of that notion fairly quickly. I will say for sure, I will not be back. There is way too many good options for food in PDX area to waste my time on horrible service and mediocre food.

This is an amazing cultural culinary experience that everyone should experience. As a Puerto Rican who grew up on the island and on the east coast I have eaten authentic puertorican food all my life. Boriken has an awesome menu and the execution of complex dishes is excellent! Wonderful food and great service, all is cooked fresh so allow time.

I felt I had to to try this place, because I have read so much about it and heard that is an amazing place with great food, I also have been living for quite some time all over the Caribbean islands, in the past, and not only I am very familiar with authentic local food but also loved their food. I have missed it very much, even just the most simple and popular items, such as the shrimp/code fired dumplings with the white garlic sauce, which I used to eat in all the islands I visited, and were most popular in Guadalupe. Well,... the experience here was a little bit different. First the people who serve are a little bit arrogant and unpleasant and kind of try to boss you around about what you have to order. Then the food, the main dishes are totally plain and the flavor is non existent! We also tried the appetizers, very disappointing, nothing to do , not even a little bit, with the authentic, good quality food I experienced. The fish fritters, are wa too greasy, and stale, and there is no fish in them, only bread, they taste only oil and salt. The bananas fritters, are too sweet and greasy, the meat inside is mixed with lots of veggies, and the meat empanadillas, are dry and stale and tasteless. I hope they improve the flavor and taste of their items and start to use less grease to cook, I will try this place again in a month or so, see if maybe there has been some improvement and may come back for an update, hopefully more positive

Your taste buds will be offended that you have not tried this place sooner. Mofongo for two, yes its a large portion, worth every penny. I arrived on a Wednesday and service was personable, the cook was also very personable and approachable, he is honestly in my opinion a very good cook, he showed true interest in my level of enjoyment of his masterpiece that is his mofongooooooo. I am a fan :-)

In the mood for authentic Puerto Rican food? Check out Boriken Restaurant. The service is warm and engaging. The chefs, born and raised in PR know their sofrito. And the owner, Sam Vazquez even went to Inter-American University - the same place where I got my start. The menu has everything you'd expect from arroz con pollo to chicharrones and everything is "al sarten".

Didn't know what I was getting myself into. Saw a sign for Caribbean food and thought of jerk chicken. Walked in and ordered the recommended mofongo (chicken trifongo as they refer to it) and was blown away. So good... And that's just the food. The place is nice with a colorful theme and matching music, and best of all it is clean. The staff is polite and and engaging, I enjoyed talking with them while waiting for my food and after eating.

Do not go if you are hungry, be prepared to wait an hour for your food. Pork chop was extremely dry and there were only two pieces of tripe in the soup.

Loved this place! We went today for lunch. It was noon when we showed up, with only one other table in the restaurant. Within minutes of us sitting down, the place filled up. We tried the fried plantains with garlic sauce, potatoes stuffed with ground beef, yellow rice with sausage and the steak with onions. While the food took a while to come out, it was totally worth it! Flavors were great, portions were large. Will definitely go again!

Because of my work schedule and the restaurants hours I had to take a vacation day to go. It was absolutely worth taking a vacation day to eat at this absolute gem of a restaurant. I lived in Puerto Rico for a couple years in the early 90s. I have since been praying for someone to open an authentic puerto rican restaurant. This is it. It is the answer to my prayers literally. Please go and enjoy the food. Puerto Rican food is akin to uniqueness in the culinary world with lots of influences yet retaining a level of mystery for most who live in the states because it really isn't like any other kind of food I've ever had, until I lived in Puerto Rico, and ever since. It brought back lots of wonderful memories for me. I also was able to talk with the owners and reminisce. It was an event I had been waiting for for over 20 years. I almost Shed tears of joy.

My wife and I got up and left after we waited 20 minutes and had not been asked for our order. This restaurant may serve up good food but it is so understaffed. The owners looked like bewildered deer caught in the headlights of to many guests handing out menus and water and not doing anything else. Don't go there if you are hungry.

Wow. What an experience. The owners are so welcoming and helpful. Suggested the chicken mofongo. What an epic dish. They will outgrow this place in no time. Food is good. Beer n wine to compliment. Overall. This place scores a wow.

I really wanted to like this place. it's just I feel like it's over priced. I got the shrimp mofongo, and it was okay it had like 5 pieces shrimp . Maybe I'll go back once the prices are reasonable.

MOFONGOS ( sounds so interesting)!! Perfect place to try Puerto Rican food! I think this is the only Peurto Rican joint in Portland. Thanks for opening this place for Portlanders! Things that stood out for me was service, food presentation and MOFONGO / TRIFONGO. Co-owner Awilda was very friendly and suggested us options for dinner. Let's talk about food now. It's said you eat first with the eyes and then comes the taste buds. ***** Stars for the presentation. It's very appealing and it tempts you to dig in! What I ate? Vegetarian Trifongo with Red Sauce(suggested by the owner instead of mofongo ). Loved the way how it was served. Trifongo included 3 different plantain varieties. So it was little sweet due to plantains. I liked the dish initially but later it lacked sauces and vegetables when you dig further inside. I wish to try this with garlic sauce (with extra sauce) next time. Yuca dish with vegetables ( vegetarian version served minus the chicken). This was good though it had good amount of grease for me. The vegetables( asparagus, onions, bell peppers) with sauce tasted delicious. Overall a good experience and you get to eat Peurto Rican food in PDX!!

Very authentic Puerto Rican food, better than most places I've tried. Basically, as close to the island as you'll get without actually flying there. A little pricey if you ask me but well worth it given that this is possibly the only Puerto Rican restaurant in the Pacific Northwest. Their alcapurrias are bar none! The portions are generous and the service was polite and attentive. The asopaos (soups) are very rich in flavor and could very well be it's own meal. The establishment was very clean and if you want to enjoy the last of the summer days, eating al fresco is a great way to cap off the evening!

Puerto Rican Food In Portland ! Not exactly what you hear too often in Portland, butcha do now, papi. So, I am one of the 0.3% Puerto Ricans living in Portland.( Per 2010 census) so I was pretty happy to see Boriken open. Due to where I live (NE Portland) and their hours of business (closed on Saturdays) It took me a while to finally visit. Boriken is located in Beaverton. From the moment I walked in, I felt like family. One of the owners walked me through the menu and didn't hesitate to recommend what to eat. (Love that BTW) Puerto Rican Food is prepared with heart and flavor. It is not like any another type of food, I would describe it and say it's not spicy/cheesy like Mexican food and it's not Cuban either. It's savory, sometimes sweet, garlicky, fried, starchy, filling, home cooked with LOVE and can, and should be shared. Large portion sizes, so keep this in mind too. Food; Trifongo~3 different plantains mashed together with onion, garlic and all kinds of magical spices. Your choice of shrimp, chicken, steak or no meat. Get This (Feeds Two) Rice and Pinto Beans~ The BEST I've had in PDX. Get This (like moms used to make) aww Coconut water with fresh chunks of Coconut ! Ikr. Tips~ This food is something you must have in the restaurant.. It doesn't "travel" well. IMO, as a general rule fried foods don't hold up and you lose the texture of the dish. This is not "fast food" it takes a little longer because its made to order and the prep time. It's totally worth it tho ;) Go experience Puerto Rican Food ! Mic Drop with Feed Back !

I have had this place bookmarked for awhile. After a fun trip to the Dermatologist we decided to get some food to go. My husband has been to Miami many times and a good friend is Puerto Rican, so he has eaten lots of Cuban/Puerto Rican food. Hubby went in to pick up the order and the gal behind the counter (was obviously new), could barely string together a sentence. She was also having major trouble opening a plastic bag. The 5 Tostones Con Mojo De Ajo, had no dipping sauce as shown in the photo. I called them and they said it had garlic butter on it and it does not come with the sauce and only get it if you ask for it at the Restaurant and they have some made. You might want to mention that or change your photo, kind of misleading. They were palatable with some salt but I want dipping sauce! The Churrasco which is $21.95 and looks nothing like the photo on their website, reminds me of Fajitas, it was AOK. I have made this myself a few times and this does not measure up to my Caucasian attempt. The rice was kind of hard, perhaps undercooked or old. Finally the 2 Empanadillas De Pollo O Carne De Res. We ordered one beef and one chicken. They were the best thing of all, very delicious! It is not my jam so I doubt I will be back.

Come hungry, leave happy :) I have been looking at this Puerto Rician place for a few months and was waiting for an opportunity to get to it. I liked the cosy homely ambience for the place. We were able to get a place to sit quick and based on the pics and reviews on yelp it was clear that we had to try the mofongo's. I had the conch mofongo (de carrucho), with the creole sauce which was amazing. I really liked the creole sauce as it was very flavorful. I also tried the shrimp mofongo (de camarones) with the white garlic and the crab meat mofongo (de cangrejo) with the white garlic sauce as well. Both of them were very tasty and I might try the white garlic sauce next time I am there. One thing to note here is that the mofongo is a lot of food, so come with an appetite. I know you would be wondering as to why after that opening comment I am not giving it 5 stars. The reason for that is that the mofongo has a lot of plantains as you dig deep into the cup, and as you go deep it gets a little dry. We asked for mor sauce and it was all good but that is the only reason for not giving it a resounding 5 stars. But, I will definitely go back as the food was amazing. Give it a try.

This is a place that I out can easily miss. Actuall I was surprised when I found it while looking for someplace different in Beaverton for lunch. It has a casual atmosphere and the staff was very welcoming. Not being familiar with Puerto Rican food, I asked for a recommendation. I ordered the Mofongo De Carrucho. I quite honestly can't really explain exactly what it was except to say that it fresh, flavorsome and left me very happy. It had a mash made from plantains and was filled with a vibrant blend of a tomato based sauce with conch and topped with fresh vegetables. This description really doesn't do it justice. But definitely stop by. Great friendly staff. And great tasting food that you won't find just anywhere.
