A 2.5 Star Rating is really more realistic. Pig N Pancake is much like Denny's in that you end up there more out of laziness or necessity rather than by a divine calling. As an Astoria local, as the clock ticks down on weeknights, our choices for dining out grow slimmer and slimmer. That was the case on our latest and probably last visit to P&P. Once again, may I remind our local businesses that keeping locals happy is a very wise thing, as we are the ones who keep you alive in the off-seasons. Tourists may be won over and distracted by kitschy things such as stuffed piggies, things with their names stamped on them, and cute magnets, but some of us still hold a restaurant accountable for food quality and customer service. I have eaten at this location now for over 4 years and I can safely say that food quality and customer service is dropping as prices are climbing. It has now reached the tipping point, where it is no longer a good value. The latest "gluten free" craze has landed here may bring in some fresh customers, but your sub-par service and declining menu quality will soon nullify that growth. On this past visit, our server was quite distracted by the small, purple compact mirror that sits atop of the coffee machine. Either she is part parakeet, or she is very vanity oriented, as I stopped counting after she picked up the mirror to check her hair and makeup for the 8th time. The server, named "V", was more concerned with prepping the pass area (cleaning up, filling salad bins, etc.) and gabbing about her plans with her coworkers than actually walking her tables to ensure that customers were satisfied. Drink refills were spotty, and very noticeable with their small juice sized glasses that they serve iced tea (and soft drinks) in. She was quick to not make eye contact with seated customers so she could get back to her duties of preparing to end her shift. Bill was left on the table with our entrees. If that isn't a not-so- subtle sign that she wants you outta there, I am not sure what is. One highlight was the halibut on my seafood platter which was actually fried to perfection. The oysters were small, greasy and overdone, the shrimp were of the cheap quality frozen variety, and the razor clam was tough. Sides are uninspired and overcooked as well as over-seasoned. The salad is iceberg value salad. My mate's stew was skimpy, with tough stew meat and far too much celery seed. All in all it was a pretty disappointing meal. We have noticed a decline at PP and this last visit sealed the deal for us....the tourists can have it. The wonderful childrens' book If You Give A Pig A Pancake... needs an addendum entitled If You Give A Customer Crappy Food & Service... It may not be a Newbery Award winner, but it is fitting for the Astoria P&P.

Nasty place with nasty food. Everything is greasy and just plain gross. I've had their crepes, their spaghetti, I can't think of one good thing to say about Pig N Putrid except it's well suited for old white people and large families. Wait staff was sloww and felt like they were hired out of the Appalachias...I was forced to come here every once in a while for work, never again!

Horrible place. This is not the same place as the one in Seaside. Service was awful. Waitstaff was more concerned with socializing and eating rather than providing a good experience. The food tasted like it had been crossed with other flavors by sharing prep or cook surfaces or storing it next to fragrant products. Food was ice cold. We even saw the cook happily come out with a plate full of eggs, ham, bacon, and toast to eat while hanging out with the waitstaff 4 tables away. Apparently the heaping plate of food was more important than providing good food to paying customers.

The chain covers a lot of the Oregon coast. The places we dine are in Seaside and Astoria. Unfortunately this visit, one of many didn't go so well. It is still a good place. Service is still ok. The kitchen might have had a bad day. Still Seaside store doesn't make mistakes.

I grew up in Astoria, moving away right before high school and had fond memories of dragging my parents to Pig 'N Pancake but when I visited this summer, it was a pretty big disappointment. The parking is a pain but the location is pretty cool since it's right by the giant Megler Bridge. The restaurant also has a lot of cool nicknacks and souvenirs to buy. The restaurant felt dingy with poor lighting and our waitress wasn't too friendly. She spilled coffee on my boyfriend's hand (and either didn't notice or didn't care) and was pretty rude to us. The food was disappointing and my friends and I are your typical poor college students who survive off newbie-home cooking, Dennys and other low quality meals... so we're pretty easy to please. Sorry Pig 'N Pancake, it's hard to fondly remember you after all that!

The parking at this joint is horrendous...we circled three times before somehow magically landing a spot directly in front of the restaurant. We were seated rather quickly, but then sat ignored in our booth for 15 minutes, trying in vain to make eye contact with a waitress. When one eventually flitted over, she was quite apologetic about our wait, which was fine. We ordered food and drinks, and she brought out my pathetic salad pretty quickly. It had watered down ranch dressing and pretty much consisted of lettuce and tomato (hardly worth the extra $3). The Clam Chowder was lukewarm and nothing comparable to other chowders I've experienced on the coast. The clam chunks were few and far between. The bread slices were generous, tasty and salty. They made for good soup mops. The portions seemed pretty sparse here, and I wouldn't say it is at all on par with the Pig 'N Pancake in Seaside, which is one of my favorites. Probably wouldn't return here, as there looked to be tons of nicer looking seafood restaurants in downtown Astoria. Boo.

Solid greasy spoon breakfast fair. The pecan waffles were heavenly. You can order lunch for breafast if you are not in a breakfast mood. Also you can get razor clams with eggs for breafast. After a freezing morning on the beach clam digging the breakfasts were warm and really hit the spot.

Very good, when we pass by here we always stop here. I think their food is fantastic for the type of business. Its probably not the best food you'll ever eat, but for a fast quick style breakfast, they are definitely delish.

Not sure why this place is getting such crummy reviews. It's not haute Portland breakfast by any stretch of the imagination, but for what they do, they do it well. The pecan pancakes were TO DIE FOR, and the Kielbasa skillet was equally delicious. The coffee was a little weak, but our cups were never empty, which I appreciate. We wandered over after staying the night before at the Lamplighter Motel next door, and our breakfast hit the spot. We would return.

Stopped in for breakfast one morning on our way back to Seattle after being as Seaside for a few days. Similar to the Seaside location, this Pig 'N Pancake is good, service is attentive and the breakfasts are good. The most notable thing to mention is their coffee. Still very bad, but not as bad as the coffee that's served at the Seaside location.

Good coffee and great strawberry waffles. I think this place must be pretty popular with the locals because it was pretty crowded. Great diner / greasy spoon breakfast.

This place is awesome. I went here on our second day in Astoria. I order the Country fried chicken skillet. So good. I'd never had anything like it before. Very very good. Our waitress was very friendly, well everyone there was. Never had a empty cup of coffee. Service quick. The location was perfect from where we were staying. Its right across the street from the Holiday Inn. I think some other reviewer are bein a little harsh on it. I think you need to just stick to the breakfast part of their menus. Loved it.

  • Chris W.

Foods not to bad. We were able to get a seat right away. Ordered and it cane out within 10 min. Nothing to write home about but not bad either. Over all it was ok for breakfast. The server did bring out the check with the food but it appears all the servers do that.

Came in because only thing open before 11. Completely satisfied by food and service. Super busy and we had 7 people at 6 person table. They made it completely comfortable. Will definitely come back.

Food was cold upon arrival. Quality sucked. Service was poor. Bad restaurant. Felt dirty inside. Cramped parking. Strange location. Overall, not worth it...no matter how hungry you are. Pig N Pancake was like eating at a lower class Dennys. Ugh.

  • Steven P.

After reading some of the reviews, I was a bit scared to try the place, but Urbanspoon said 88% recommended the place. Well, I loved it. Pancakes were perfect, eggs done right and coffee never wanting. Waitstaff very friendly. Another reviewer said the place was expensive, but I say on the contrary. It's not McDonald's prices, but you're seated and waited on. You pay for what you get. Bottom line: I highly recommend the place...

Hmm, why all the hate for ye olde Pig 'n Pancake? I'm surprised! When I used to live in Oregon and camp on the coast, we would drive by this restaurant all the time. It was always packed and the impish little piglet holding a fork on the sign usually made me chuckle. In all those years, never had a chance to actually go inside and eat...but now that has changed! My husband and I came here for breakfast on a Saturday morning while on a road trip up the coast. I was very pleased with my long overdue Pig 'n Pancake experience. I'm not a big breakfast eater, and since I've recently decided to try to avoid gluten, that makes things even harder. I was preparing to have a disjointed breakfast/lunch when, eureka! I spot potato pancakes on the menu! Hurrah! My husband was also very happy to discover crepes, which aren't always a guarantee at breakfast places. Our food arrived promptly, and I quickly devoured my delicious, gluten free pancakes. Yummy! Like giant hashbrowns, full of flavor! Our meal was also very reasonable, and we left full and happy. In response to all the negative reviews, I think it's a little telling that this place is always PACKED. If it was so terrible, people wouldn't be loyal customers. Just saying...

I had the Denver Omelette with buckwheat pancakes, maybe I was just really hungry but they were quite good. Wife got the clam chowder (which was OK) and the razor clam sandwich - the sandwich WOULD have been good had the clam been filleted, but was instead just 2 large pieces of chewy clam where the whole thing pulled out of the bread on the first bite. It looked disgusting. Her fries were really good. I would eat here again, but stick to basic American breakfast fare.

  • Hugh R.

Very disappointing. I had neither pig nor pancake here, opting for 2 eggs, hash browns and toast, which cost me a ludicrous $6.50. A side of meat to accompany this very light, poorly prepared meal would have cost me $4 extra. FOUR DOLLARS!!! The hash browns were hard and the eggs uninteresting. Take my advice and PASS on this joint.

We stopped in here for an early dinner. The food was mediocre. I had scissor clams. They were barely palatable. I think they forgot to season them. They were so bland being that they were breaded and pan fried. My BF had a burger. Nothing remarkable. The service was nice too bad the food didn't match. I left there with a bag of cinnamon gummy bears...they were so hard and stale. But given that we were there in November maybe they are better when it's summer time.

Mediocre, it's usually decent food, good service, but there are far better places to eat in Astoria...

If I could give this NO stars, I would. My boyfriend and I stopped here for breakfast on our way out of Astoria, and it was AWFUL. We were hoping for something along the lines of an IHOP or Denny's, but Pig'n Pancake wasn't even close. The eggs were cold and runny, and everything else was lukewarm at best. We left there disappointed. Not the best way to end our otherwise great trip.

    (1)
  • Drew G.

Do you like Denny's but feel it's gotten just a bit too uppity these days? Pretty simple. This is standard IHOP with a pig on the sign and tacky gifts near the door.

    (1)
  • Sean M.

Its a tradition for my son and I to stop here any time we drive though Astoria. The food is middle of the road for a dinner and a bit pricey, but I love that little pig eating the pan cakes. He just draws me in ever time. They also have a little cheesy nic nak store in the front which is very retro.

Where to begin...there were 5 of us for lunch. We waited 15 minutes for our drinks to arrive-two of which were ice teas. One tea was requested with lemon, the other without. Both teas arrived with lemon, which is normally not a big deal-however, when we mentioned this to the waiter, he promptly put two of his fingers into one of the ice tea's to fish out the lemon and said he would return it to the kitchen!! We ordered a hamburger, 2 fish and chips, one skillet plate and a breakfast combo with sourdough pancakes. After waiting for 30 minutes the waiter came to the table, he showed up with 3 plates and realized that he had only a partial order and one of the plates didn't belong to us, so he took them all back. I could see him dropping off two of the plates at another table. Now another 10 minutes has gone by and our food finally arrives. However, there are only 4 plates (apparently the cook missed one of the fish and chips), so the waiter went to the back and in plain view, proceeded to argue with the cook. At this point, the waiter did leave the 4 plates at the table. The hamburger was like cold rubber and the fries were cold. The breakfast combo did NOT get the sourdough pancakes. The fish and chip plate that did arrive, was cold and tasted terrible. The skillet plate order was right, but was cold. Upon arrival of the second fish and chip plate, it was determined that even though the fish and chips were hot, they still tasted bad-in fact, the person that had this felt crappy for 2 days! The refills were non-existent and the waiter was a complete idiot. Unless you want to waste your money and have something to laugh about in the future, I certainly would not recommend this place. BTW, I had to leave at least one star in order for me to leave this review. If it were up to me, I would have left a negative star!

Perfect small-town diner food done just like diner food should be: nothing fancy, but lots of good flavor. The portions on my Denver omelette were a little too big for me, and it was a bit excessive that it also came with pancakes. I could only get through half of the meal, but it was tasty. Good history to the restaurant too. We felt right at home--a great start to our Astoria trip. Come hungry!

i would give it 2 for the food, but the t-shirt alone was worth the extra star. friendly local joint.

Whenever I go to the coast, I eat at a Pig N Pancake. It's something I've done since I was very little. This is the first time I've made it to the Astoria location. The service was good and the food was too. Though it is kinda underwhelming as far as the brand goes. It's not the best Pig N Pancake but not the worst.

    (4)
  • Melanie C.

Service was slow but there was only one server or so it appeared and it was fairly busy. And that's excusable. No drink order was taken but we were able to place it when our food came. The salad i was given was of the bagged variety. I've had the shrimp melt before but this time it didn't live up to my previous expectation. It was barely warm and the muffin was kinda soggy. The fries were good though. Overall the food and service weren't worth the prices. I feel bad for only giving 3 stars, but frankly it deserves a 2.

Think Elmer's or Shari's. Since there's not one of those in Astoria, Pig N Pancake serves as the king of the small chain diner. Coming here for breakfast isn't bad, but I'd avoid lunch and dinner, that is if you are a fan of fresh, made on the spot food, homemade (which we are). The food here rivals IHOP, Denny's Elmer's and Shari's and if those are your go-to spot that you enjoy you'll love this place. Meanwhile, if you want fresh seafood or entrees made from scratch from a chef you'll be better served elsewhere. We did, however, try the pies and they weren't bad, as is the breakfast. Otherwise, there's nothing to crave here. But this is Astoria and finding quality food isn't the norm.

What a difference from our experience at this chain's location this morning in Coos Bay. Only came here again because it happened to be right next to the hotel we were staying in and we could walk to it. Service was much, much better. Food was ok. I ordered the halibut and chips; while the fish was wonderful, the breading was soggy. I had to peel it off. Fries were fantastic. Dinner salad was boring; while fresh, it was just lettuce with carrot and cabbage slivers. No tomato, no cucumber, no croutons. While we were paying our bill, I tried to share with the cashier to share with mgmt that fried fish is best served on some sort of paper to soak up the oil, she gave me a response that told me she didn't listen to what I was saying (something about the freshness of the fish, which I was not contesting). I had to repeat myself.

We went here for breakfast. It was your standard breakfast items on the menu. The most interesting breakfast item was probably what my husband had which was the eggs Benedict but with crab. He ate this quickly and said it was delicious. I had the sourdough blueberry pancakes which were really good as well. I wouldn't waste money on their coffee or latte as though those were OK. Overall a good breakfast place.

First time here and I was really impressed. Our server Scottie was on it! She was working the entire front section by herself. Never lost her cool, carried stacked plates out like a champ, and was so tentative to her tables. As a former server, her game is on point. Food was excellent. We ordered French toast and chicken fried steak scramble. Hit the spot. What can I say, everyone was working hard both in kitchen and on the floor. Great job everybody! Ill be back.

Love the big breakfast menu and hash browns! I went here on a late Saturday morning and the parking lot was packed. Surprisingly no wait, since this place is huge. Love all he natural sunlight. Service was prompt and food came out quickly. I went with the 2 eggs, toast, and hash browns for $8. Pricier than what I'm used to playing for breakfast food, but that seems to be the going rate around here. Decent portions. Eggs were cooked exactly how I asked and the toast (2 pieces cut into halves) was buttery and delicious. Hash browns had a great crisp and well binded. Great spot for a casual breakfast!

Let me say that I have never sent back food in my life- this was a first. The place was moderately busy, there were tables open on a recent Saturday morning. Ordered a pecan waffle for about $8.50. When it was delivered it was cold, the whipped cream melted, COMPLETELY, under cooked and so thin it didn't make it to the edges of the waffle iron. For $8.50?! Really appalling and the service was horrible. I sent it back and got what my husband was having- so we ate two separate breakfasts. Overpriced and blah. During checkout we had been charged for the waffle and when I complained they took it off and gave us free coffee? Really? I don't have high standards, I go with the flow, but I would never go back.

Stopped by here with our two toddlers for old time's sake. Haven't been here since I was a kid. What I remember is the stacks of pancakes piled high with strawberries and whipping cream. Maybe service is fast here, but it wasn't for us. It took over 30 minutes for our food to come out after placing our order and that's not a good thing when you have little kids. Maybe it was because we ordered the eggs Benedict? I am pretty sure it doesn't take 30 minutes to poach a couple of eggs. When the food finally came, the pancakes were cold (they weren't even hot enough to melt whipped butter!) and the Benedict was lukewarm. The only thing hot was the sausage links. The coffee was like the typical Diner coffee - watery and not very good. The food was fine - nothing particularly special about it. My husband did like the sourdough pancakes, but the Hollandaise sauce tasted like it came out of a packet (i.e. not homemade). I thought it was strange (or clever?) that they offered half and full order for the Benedict. A half order is just ONE half of the English muffin. The full order is both sides. The price difference between the full and half order of crab Benedict was $5. If you know you can only eat half of your meal get the full order and just put the rest in a doggy bag. This is a decent place for kids. They have high chairs and booster seats, crayons and coloring and a kid's menu. You have to be creative to order gluten free, though. There's nothing gluten-free-specific on the kid's menu. We had to piece-meal with side orders. For some reason, they didn't give us any silverware for the kids and we had to ask for a couple forks for them. Overall, this is a decent establishment. I'm not sure we'll be back, though.

We came here with a large group, and it was pretty busy, but there were still able to get us seated within a half hour. The food is pretty standard diner fare, although the Swedish pancakes were better than average! I had them with blueberry instead of strawberry and they were delicious. The service was great too - the waitress remembered everything correctly and kept our coffees and water pitcher filled - not an easy feat for a table of ten in a busy restaurant! No fuss about splitting the checks out either, which we appreciated. Great spot for breakfast, just be prepared for it to be busy!

    (4)
  • Xibee M.

Not bad! Pancakes with bluerry pie topping, tasty. Potato pancakes tasted toasty fried like good hash browns. Denver omelette, standard; could have been cheezier; a bit dry. But all in all, a legit diner experience. True to that, the coffee is old style --a bit weak. Americana!

Here we are at another pig n blanket .... in Astoria. Our goal is to dine at all four during this vacation . So far we've had an excellent dinning experiance in both seaside and cannon beach ... service has been good and our meals have been excellent. I highly recommend.

Ended up stopping here on the way home to Seattle after eating at a different Pig n Pancake that I was not too impressed with. This was such a change! We stopped in on a Saturday morning around 10:30. The place was busy but we were greeted and seated right away. A waitress swooped in and asked if we wanted coffee before our butts hit the chairs. Our waitress was awesome. It seemed like this may have been a retirement gig for her. She was sweet, efficient, and funny. Our food came out quickly and correctly. It was hot and tasty. I had no complaints and neither did the Mister. Our drinks stayed full and our waitress stayed smiley. If I go through the area again I will definitely go back. I am a sucker for breakfast food!

  • Liz S.

My husband and I were trying to figure out how to review this place. We decided the best way to describe the food is 'It's food' that's it. Just 'It's food'. It's not good, it's now bad, it's just food. As for the server, she was nice. But we didn't get to know her well because we only saw her a couple times, which wasn't great because I could have really used more water. But she wasn't bad, she just wasn't around. So basically, it's food that will get there but don't expect anything to be great, but don't expect anything bad. It's just an overall meh.

The food is great and the story behind the restaurant is even better! Service was lacking a little thus the 4 star but over all great breakfast experience! I would return and recommend the chicken fried skillet! Oh and if coarse the pigs n a pancake!

First time earing here and probably my last. Service was okay - unfortunately there were two servers with an entirely too full restaurant so you waited a long time to get anything. (Not to say the service was bad, our lady was very nice but very busy and was working her tail off so please don't misunderstand. ) I had the regular eggs benedict and it was lacking in flavor. It was okay but my hash browns were just nasty. I usually really enjoy these but I did not this time. To make them edible I used half the salt shaker and made a sea of ketchup on my plate. The one thing I really enjoyed here were there napkins. No joke! Softest napkins I have ever used. Totally loved them. My company had the crab eggs Benedict (she didn't care for it either) and a chicken fried skillet (which she said was very good.)

I absolutely love the Crab Louie at Pig and Pancake. Generous amount of crab over tossed greens. The greens tonight were overly wet which is why the 4 stars. I have eaten Crab Louie costing twice the price and not been an iota happier than I am now. My husband always orders the Pan Fried Razor Clams. Again, a dish he will regularly order no matter the price. He was particularly delighted tonight with the excellent sides, fresh steamed vegetables and a perfectly cooked baked potato. The service however, is spotty. This is after all a chain diner. Doesn't keep us from coming back when we are in the area.

Stopped in for a late breakfast (10ish AM) on a Wednesday. Was surprised to see the parking lot nearly full. We were seated promptly with menus ... and water not long after, the waitress came to take our order. Water and coffee arrived shortly thereafter. The wait for the food was somewhat long, even though the restaurant was somewhat busy (perhaps 80% of capacity). Perhaps it was my wife's choice of apple crepes ... the food arrived and was attractively plated (that is, the kitchen staff went to some effort to artistically arrange the food on the plate, not just plop it down). Wife enjoyed the crepes, and though the mound of whipped cream and syrupy apples looked like a blow-out sugar load, she was delighted that it 'wasn't too sweet' ... My 'standard" eggs 'n' bacon breakfast was well prepared and very good. The slightly slow kitchen response is the main reason this is not 5 stars....

Comfort food, served in a place that was designed in the 50's. It worked then, it works now. Nothing particularly fancy, nothing bad, nothing to knock your socks off. While it seems contrary to what you might expect, you do pay extra for the plain setting, the average service and the uninspired menu. Having said all of that, the food is served hot, the coffee seems fresh - not that I'd know first hand as I don't drink the stuff. You will probably find what you are looking for if you think "Denny's" or "Sharis". It won't make you sick. That's about all I can say.

If you're looking for a wide variety of breakfast that's more of a IHOP style this is a great choice. It was fairly busy for about 11:30am. There only seemed to be one server taking orders and a bunch of other workers wandering around, not sure if they were busers or hosts, but just getting refills on coffee and water proved difficult.

I'm all about customer service and this place exceeded everything we have experienced while in Astoria. Boutique eateries are fine but 'hometown' places make me feel..at home. Quick service, attentive to all aspects of the meal, great prices. Our waitress was Orchid. Very pleasant lady. It's all good.

You don't really appreciate how good pig and pancake is until move away. I live near Washington DC, but cannot find a diner or pancake house that even comes close to "the pig." My favorite breakfast is the razor clams and eggs, with the dungeoness crab omelet finishing a close second. The pancakes are the best in the United States!

  • Adriana R.

Pig N' Pancake is not what it use to be! Really saddened by this experience. The eggs tasted like they were from a carton, my pancakes were soggy and my bacon was really greasy. The food just tasted bland overall. I would've been better off at disgusting IHOP. Yeah, my breakfast was that bad. What happened Pig N' Pancake?

    (1)
  • Daisy L.

Yes we have experienced better! Pancakes were good, but Scottie our waitress, must have had a bad day and decided to take it our on us! She got the pancake order wrong and ignored us for a while and served everybody coffee except us! We also asked her for additional napkins, fell on deaf ears! Finally Joe complained to the "person in charge" Farol and then our experience (close to the end) got better! Hope they get it together!

Slow and unfriendly service, food served cold. We have had significantly better service and food when it was busier during the church brunch rush. An order at our table was lost as well.

Disclaimer: This is not going to be a happy review. My bff and I recently took a weekend trip to Astoria and like many other yelpers, we were in disgust with this Pig'n Pancake! Lucky for me I knew walking in, it was going to be bad so I played it safe and ordered a grilled cheese and fries. LOL!! My friend ordered biscuits and gravy. I have nothing to rave about the food. The gravy looked gross and the biscuits were cold and really dry. The waitresses were all very catty -- Our waitress took our order, dropped off the food and check and we never saw her again. While another was making out with her cook, boyfriend behind the counter. ICK. And I dont know if anyone else noticed, but there was a weird rumbling underneath our feet the entire time we were there. Awkward.

Basic breakfast place in a tourist town, think Denny's but local. The place is a bit run down. The service was basic but attentive with coffee always filled. The food is basic breakfast fare however with great sausage. I had the sourdough pancakes and they were very good. The place is a bit tacky as they are selling a lot of shirts and such with their logo on it. If I'm back in the area I would go here again for breakfast over chain places.

Everything was great. We wanted to eat at the one in Seaside a couple years back and never made it. We made it to the one in Astoria this time around and enjoyed it. Good chow at decent prices.

We got seated right away. The hostess and our waitress was always smiling. Great customer service. Coffee cups were always filled our food was prepared really fast. I had the strawberry cheese blintz which was amazing!! Yummy!

A more authentic, local spin on Denny's. The food is good, the service is friendly. Great place for a casual breakfast for the whole family.

I appreciate consistency and this Pig N' Pancake (Hog and Waffle...or just the Pig) has it down. We have been frequenting this location a few time a month lately because they cater to small children and my daughter can not seem to get enough of their pancakes. The food comes out fast and is always the same. Not the best breakfast food I have every consumed but consistently solid. I typically order an omelet w/pancakes that is plenty of food for two people. As a place with pancake in their name should they have probably 10 varieties on pancakes for the adventurous folks to try. The services is also spot on (we usually have Scottie). I can barely finish my drink before another one shows up and while the place is usually slammed when we go I have never had long waits for food or check.

Gross. Just gross. My girlfriend and I had a craving for "diner food" and this seemed to closely resemble that. The menu presented its self as such- all of the standard fare. Service was ok. Just ok. I ordered a Belgian waffle- oh yum! These are my favorite. No one can screw up a waffle. WRONG. What I got was a plate of canned whipped cream and half frozen strawberry ~compote~ (I don't think you should be able to use the word compote if you don't know what it means, what I got was frozen fruit that had been thawed, and the watery juice that comes in the bag with it) Only upon digging and searching desperately for my waffle was I able to find it, soaked and now dyed red from the disaster on top of it. I'm not a complainer, except on yelp obviously, so I just tried to eat the dry edges and paid and left. As for the other meal ordered, my meat eating girlfriend got some type of meat covered in gravy which was ridiculously overpriced at $11 and was comparable to a child's menu size portion. Never again, pig n pancake.

This was a great place. As a regular at Ihop, I was in the mood for some different pancakes. The place has a definite diner feel, which is great for breakfast. I had the sourdough pancakes (a first for me) and they were great. Thinner than regular pancakes and with a very firm consistency, they were delicious. Overall, the experience was great with a wonderful cross-section of customers. When I'm back on the Oregon/Washington coast I'll definitely go here again. Next--try them for dinner!

OMG! While on vacation we stopped in for breakfast and I ordered crepes to die for! The atmosphere and restaurant was like any other but the food was so good, fresh, and homemade! Definitely give this place a try for breakfast!

Come in if you have all day to wait. My husband was anxious to try Pig n' Pancake after passing several on our way up the coast. I'd been, but it was back in 1994 so I agreed to give it a shot. Our order ticket was some how lost in the window after we waited for 30 minutes to order. So after 50 minutes of waiting (with a 2 & 4 yr old) our food arrived, cold. It was ok, the sourdough pancakes we really tasty, would have loved to try then hot! Our waitress tried making the most of a poor experience for us, we appreciated that.and thanked her. But the dated decor and lacklustre presentation killed it for us. We won't be back.

Like Denny's used to be. Vegetable Soup of the Day was better than the minced Clam Chowder. Cheeseburger Breakdown (BOMC style): Bun - commercial enriched bread with bland sesame seeds Burger - all char and no beef taste Cheese - Tillamook Cheddar, but wicked thin, almost tasteless Veggies - AWESOME tomato slices, tough and strong lettuce. Never had a refill on the soda. Waitress dropped the bill and then on the next pass asked if we wanted dessert... and still didn't bring the beverage refill.

We come here everytime we stay in Seaside Oregon, its been here a long time and serves up your good ol' American food. Nothing really stood out here as we just order the basic breakfast foods, we've never had lunch or dinner here.

Caitlin, the hostess, and the Garden Skillet - those 2 things earned the 4th star on this review! This was our first time in Astoria, and our first time ever seeing a Pig n' Pancake. We knew what to expect going in, diner type fare and dated decor. Our hostess, Caitlin, was fantastic, and accommodated our need for a table over a booth with no hesitation. She took our drink orders and returned with them promptly. After our server took our order she noticed our 2 year old son becoming impatient with the crayons and brought over some toy cars. She really made his day. We were seated by the door and kept catching a breeze as folks would enter/exit and she even stopped by to make sure we weren't bothered by this. After perusing the menu, I decided on the Garden Skillet. I was not disappointed! Delicious veggies folded into fluffy scrambled eggs and topped with melted cheese. A side dish of fresh fruit and some delicious rye toast. Excellent!! Husband and son both had breakfast as well, and no complaints. Scottie, our server, was friendly enough, even if she was not as attentive as she could have been. Overall a good enough experience that we wouldn't be hesitant to return.

This is your typical breakfast place. The food is good, but not amazing. We had great service, the coffee was good, and the place is very clean. Nice place to grab breakfast with the family.

We went to Pig 'N Pancake because my husband remembered eating there on family vacations in his childhood. Now, I didn't think it was as bad as some other reviewers. I mean, it isn't like a gourmet steakhouse -- it's more like a ma and pa diner. I ordered crab bendedict with hash browns, and the crab was nice and fresh, the hollandaise was yummy, and the hash browns were amazing. The service was fast and friendly, and we loved the little gift shop in the restaurant. we would definitely go again!

I have always wanted to check this place out. I was horribly let down. WORST chicken fried steak ever. EVER! Flavorless lumps of greasy meat-ish type stuff in a tasteless gravy. Boo. Also ordered pancakes... There was a hair under the pancakes, and it took forever for the replacement. Replacement omelette came out with raw egg white. Just poor all the way around. Go elsewhere at all costs. McDonalds, Burger King, a handful of sand, anything would be better than this heaping expensive pile of disappointment.

We knew it would be busy on a Sunday at noon. We knew to be patient. We went, we waited, we sat and then ordered. I ordered 2 eggs w/bacon, a $6 dollar plate. I was served a bacon and cheese omelette- when I asked what it was, the waitress said, "how about a freebie?". We thought that meant FREE, it did not, it meant that the dish I was served cost more then what I ordered so I wouldn't be charged that extra amount. Apparently her Mgr didn't like that idea. It took 3 times to get the check issue cleared up and correct. We weren't going to argue about it but generally brought down our experience here. They were too difficult to work with and I knew that right away, that's a reason why I didn't further demand my correct order. Clearly the service was overwhelmed and not capable of doing their job at an acceptable level- which is a bit annoying for a relaxing brunch experience. Don't offer FREE dishes if you can't hold up your end.

My husband, son and I were coming home from our camping trip when we decided to stop at Pig N' Pancake. We had been to another one before but at a different location. There were several people in the waiting area but the wait time went by very quickly. We were seated and then we waited quite a bit for 1) our server 2) flatware. It felt odd when two other waitstaff employees were putting flatware at empty tables but didn't bring us any. Finally, I asked one of the employees for flatware and our server. The fact that we waited longer for our flatware and server than we did to get seated didn't' impress us too much. Finally, our server arrived. She was friendly but wasn't attentive enough during our visit. Our son ordered off the kids menu and he did enjoy coloring while we were waiting to order. He had the 5 sand dollar pancakes with milk. Hubby had strawberry crepes and I had their taco omelet. With my breakfast, it came with a side of hash browns and toast. All of us enjoyed our meal very much. We had no complaints about the food nor the cleanliness (the bathrooms were very clean). We waited what felt like (again) a long time for her to pick up our check and the opportunity to ask for a to-go box for our son's meal. Altogether our meal was $25.95 before tip. I would go there again just because we really enjoyed our meal. However, next time, I might be a little bit more demanding so that we don't end up looking like decor by collecting dust as we wait for service. Food A+. Service? C.

Friendly service. Even when they are busy they are a fun loving group who demonstrate how much they like their job. I even observed a young employee male, high schoolish age, as he was walking from the front to the back observed some garbage, a piece of small paper or wrapper, on the floor. He took the time to pick it up and throw it away instead of just walking right by it.

Came here dinner and then breakfast the next day since it was on the other side of our hotel. Dinner- good service. 3 stars. Got our food fast. Had the veggie fettachini, husband got the steak and salmon. I liked mine a lot. Good, thick sauce and lots of veggies. Breakfast- service just okay. 2 stars Really weak coffee for a breakfast place. Veggi scramble was good. Needed salt. Didn't like the way our check came with the food. Felt rushed because the servers rarely came back to check on us after dropping the check off.

Meh! OK enough food as long as you're not after any veggies or healthy stuff. I got the swedish pancakes and a side of bacon, no green in sight! and they were both good. The coffee was forgettable, but I was impressed that you get the choice of how you want your swedish pancakes done: soft, medium, or crispy! i got crispy but they literally shattered when i tried to eat them on the end bits. the middles were better so i would recommend getting them 'medium' if you like swedish pancakes. i was also tempted by their sourdough pancakes (hmmm!) or buckwheat. i wish they had some kind of combo where you could try a few different ones. service here was a bit ditzy - our waitress was great but the other girls working looked REALLY BORED and one stopped by our table to give us some water when we obviously already had 2 full water glasses. Then the people at the next table asked where their water was and the girl was like "hah! i gave it to these people instead! here you go." and grabbed it from our table to give to them. Not a huge deal for some people, but i can see how a lot of people wouldn't want water from some other person's table!

Been stopping by here once a year for five years, a traditional thing for the wife and I. Always try to get something different each time. Finally got Yelp to catch up to my travels. Had the Swedish pancakes this time, as usual, outstandingly prepared. Thin and Christy with special berry spread and a side of maple syrup. Highly recommend anyone try anything at this historic Astoria stop over but maybe more than once a year. Waitress change every year or I forget them but always very nice, courteous and sweet. Tip well!

After asking three locals where to eat they all said here. Wasn't sure about it from the outside appearance and the name, but gave it a shot. Got the fruit bowl and it was surpriseingly fresh and had a lot of variety. Kids got pancakes hubby got biskits and gravy. All were satisfied. Kid friendly, and clean

I was REALLY excited to try Pig N' Pancake the last morning of a overnight getaway to Astoria. I mean c'mon, it has the word pig in the name for pete's sake...I was expecting a kaleidoscope of various pork breakfast products. Unfortunately, what PNP ended up being was a slightly overpriced (everything in Astoria is astoundingly expensive), tackily decorated (dug this), run of the mill, homespun version of a Denny's. The menu didn't have anything remarkably different to make it a special experience. I had the crab Benedict, which was okay, but the hollandaise was too tangy, and way too rubbery. I guess I should have gone with pancakes, which was supposedly their big deal, but I'm always up for a new Benedict experience. Overall, I was sort of let down....but then again, it was my own damn fault for not ordering anything that actually involved pigs, and or pancakes. When we go to Cannon Beach in the summer, maybe we'll give it another shot.
