I used to go in here for lunch because I worked very close by. Ugh, I regretted it every time. A few times I got nachos, or a quesadilla, or simple burrito. The food in general is not very good. The chips they give you are stale beyond belief, and sometimes the food is really greasy, bleh! EVERY TIME I've ever eaten there I felt sick to my stomach afterwards. The staff are usually pretty friendly but it doesn't really make up for the fact that the food is disgusting.

That's the Mexican restaurant I have been looking for for awhile. They have healthy and delicious Burritos which I like it. Selection of meet and salsas. The price is very fair. You fill up your belly with a huge burrito and delicious food. Service is great. You see smiling faces while they serve you!!

Located on Ashland Street in the shopping center behind Wendy's. OPEN 7 days a week. I've walked by this place countless times, but finally stopped in to try out the Breakfast burritos (served ALL Day). Their "breakfast" burrito is a regular burrito (meat, beans, rice, salsa, sour cream) and they add an egg. And they use a smaller tortilla than they use for their regular burritos. In summary: IF you're in the area, it's an ok burrito (nothing special); combined from ladles of stuff in metal tubs that have been sitting out uncovered all day. Every order comes with a large bag of tortilla chips (a little stale) and you can get salsa from the "salsa bar". It's low quality fast food and it's the american version of mexican food (good for kids). Also, I agree with the previous yelpers: They do have A LOT of EXTRA CHARGES... I mean A LOT! AND on top of all the extra charges, they also charge an extra "Ashland Tourist Tax" on all orders. On a side note: IF you're more into fresh quality ingredients, tons of flavor and not in a hurry (for the SAME $6)... I still prefer to make the trip to Ruby's Neighborhood Restaurant where they have an AMAZINGLY FRESH breakfast burrito (HUGE) that is stuffed with breakfast MEATS and crispy bits of hashbrowns. *AND they make their own hot sauces (DELICIOUS) from their backyard garden. But they're closer to downtown, so it really just depends what you're looking for (fast or fresh).

The food was average, and for some reason it took a while for the food to be brought out. Wasn't the best Mexican food I've ever had, but it was tasty none the less!

I gave them three stars because I know how good they used to be and I hope they will improve again but this last experience was maybe two stars if I'm being kind. The girl who served us must have been having an allergic reaction or had a skin condition which does not bother me but please wear gloves and maybe a mask if it's bad. I know health code says that is a requirement. The portion of meat she gave us was barely a 1/4 cup serving spoon which she did not even fill up, there was so little that she couldn't even spred it on the whole burrito without some spots being bare. she put about one and a half tablespoons of guac on for what would have been a $1.50 extra if she hadn't forgot to put it on my bowl so she gave my guac to my boyfriend for free, although I would have taken it if she had told me it was an option. It was a slimy brown green color that didn't look that appetizing. I hope this was a fluke and that the days of good portions and friendly service return to señor Sams but it was a very mediocre experience today.

great prices, tasty food, great staff, even though I feel sick to my stomach every time I eat there, I still go back. I probably shouldn't use so much salsa.

I really enjoy this place. I always find myself getting the same thing: the tostada salad, but I've ventured into other menu items. If you enjoy different flavored tortilla wraps, they have variety to choose from. Being a Californian I grew up on taquerias offering chips and salsa with your meal as well as guacamole and sour cream. Señor Sam's from what I've see also does this. Affordable and fair.

This may not be the best food in the valley but it is the best value. When I was poor this was the only place I went to eat. Now that I can afford to eat someplace else, I still come here regularly. The food is really yummy and the portions are enormous. The staff is friendly and the restaurant is clean. The only thing you need to watch out for is the scary homeless guy outside.

Good food. Biggest complaint: the countless "add-on$." Want lettuce? Add .79; want a different tortilla besides flour? Add .49. Want olives? Add .79. Once again, good food; there are way too many "add-on$" which makes this place slightly un-customer friendly. I will be back. I just won't play the $illy "add-on" game. Good food, friendly staff. It's also nice to see they wash hands to make your meal.

You know, I almost didn't go to this place based on these reviews, however I was starving my favorite taco place was closed, and taco well wouldn't cut it so I took a chance. VERY good! It's not the "best" I'm sure if you looked you would find better, but for the price and the portion your getting a REALLY good deal. My burrito was FAT and delicious, I left with more than half I was so full an finished my yummy seconds a little later and now I'm stuffed all over again! They were really busy and you could tell everyone was stressed but smiling thru it, we came right before closing and mis read the sign an they still helped us, they stayed later and let us dine inside and didn't rush us at all. I thought they were really nice, at first I felt like "eh.. Don't wanna come here." But then after lookin at the menu while watching other peoples massive burrito be made I changed my mind and I'm glad I made the right choice! I'll definitely be comin back.. Probably a couple days from now haha.

I gave two stars only because the girl who took my order provided great customer service and provided a speedy refund after I explained that my burrito was inedible due to the cilantro having what I can only describe as sand on it and every bite getting an undesirable tooth aching crunch.

I eat at Señor Sams all the time and love their burritos every single time! Yum yum yum! They are so consistent it's crazy! And did I mention you get a lot for your money! For 8 bucks I get lunch today and leftovers for dinner. Fresh ingredients, great customer service, and a good deal.

I love this place, the food is good and the prices are fair. I went in tonight and the employees lied to me and said they were closed. As a restaurant worker myself, I understand wanting to get done with a shift especially on Friday night, but I didn't appreciate being lied to. If they would have just told me they were almost closed and were trying to finish up I would have been OK with it. Lying is not ok, and something I would never do no matter how badly I wanted to be done. That being said, I will probably eat there again as the food is yummy!

I remember my first week of living in Ashland I had heard from older students that Senor Sam's was the best place to go. After a long week of white water rafting I was craving a big ole' burrito. You know the kind I mean. The one's where you just have to pick it up and bury your face in it. Getting grease everywhere and having it fall apart on to your plate. Mmmmm..... I made my way down to Senor Sam's stoked to try it. It seemed like a cool idea, you get to tell them what you want and watch them make it. Here's what I got: Dry, flavorless, the farthest thing from a Mexican burrito. Ew no. Senor Sam's is like Chipotles ugly sister who tries way to hard to be like her. But for some reason, I decided to try Senor Sam's again and again because it was so close to my dorm and I missed the great Mexican food I could get in California. So here's what I've concluded: There just isn't good Mexican food in Ashland!

A bunch of gringos making burritos..and struggling to do so!

Dry. Lots of food, but nothing worth returning for. Everything is pre-made and prepared by college students. This is a good place for quick, cheap food.... but don't expect quality.

I've been to Senor Sam's a few times now since I am addicted to Mexican food. Their medium salsa is awesome, but I have to agree with other reviewers that this is not the best mexican food out there. I guess a plus is that when you order food you get a large amount for what you pay (especially the burritos, they are huge!). A few things I wish they would change though is their lack of garbage cans and to-go boxes. The to-go box is pretty much a cardboard container (you know, the kind you get at fairs and put hotdogs in?) that you cover in tin foil, but the thing is that if you have food that has any moisture it tends to seep through the container and make it soggy? And as a graphic design student and former print specialist, I think that the menus could use some updating (pictures perhaps?).

pretty decent for cheap food. Nothing spectacular. No real flavor. They do offer tofu as an option instead of meat. Other than that, its ok. Not sure I'll be returning to this one.

It's like a Chipotle in that it's a build-your-own-burrito place. It's not like a Chipotle in that it has ground beef and something kind of like barbacoa but not. Anyway, it's pretty good for the price, and the guacamole doesn't cost extra. Free chips with your order.

Okay, let's just put it out there on the table: Senor Sams is about as Mexican as I am. That being said, it's a great place to get a fast, cheap, and rather healthful breakfast, lunch or dinner. And fresh, too - with the vast turnover at the counter it hardly stands a chance of being otherwise. The food is yummy, the salsa bar is a nice touch, and the booths - which I've never had trouble securing even at their busiest times - are a little worn but nice and comfy. Though the menu has a lot of variety, the definite speciality are the Mission-style foil-wrapped burritos. Bonus for the non-carniverous: the protein choices include tasty grilled tofu. It's a fantastic place to take the kids, since it's one of those 'have it your way' establishments, but don't let your urchins linger too long over their decisions. You never know when one of those pleasant teenagers behind the glass - or one of the seventy people behind you in line - is going to lose it ... ;-)

Not great, but good food cheap. Love the self-serve salsa bar. Vegan and vegetarian offerings. A good place for students and working folks to fill their bellies with reasonably priced, good food.

Actually, make that 2 and a half stars! I'll admit that I love their veggie burrito. Yes, they are a bit bland and I often resort to adding salsa to every other bite, but still they're pretty good for the money. However, there is a definite lack of management and it shows. Things have gone downhill over the years. Actually, it is as if there is NO management. 1. Service leaves a lot to be desired. Many times I've walked in when there's no line, but there's also no one to take my order. They're standing around, chatting with each other in the back room, moving pots, etc. Would be nice if waiting on customers was a higher priority. 2. Cleanliness. While the seating areas are fine, the prep area is not. Unless you're short you'll see what a mess it can be. Also, employees will wipe their hands on their aprons/clothes then handle your food. 3. Portions can vary significantly. I've experienced where the Jr. burrito for the person in front of me or behind me is larger than my 'big' burrito. Or I get back to the office to eat and realize that my 'big" burrito is more like a Jr. size. 4. The chips tend to be on the stale side. The salsa isn't nearly as flavorful as what I buy in a store (Hecho en Talent or Kirkland). I still get their food --- just not nearly as much as I used too. It feels like the owner just doesn't care any more and that it is just a matter of time before it is gone. It is like watching the slide of Geppetos again. Maybe the owners of the Medford and Grants Pass Senor Sams will buy it some day and give it some care!

I can't believe no one's reviewed this. This place is seriously the BOMB! I came here on the regular during college and it was always busy. It's fast, healthy Mexican fare, not fast food. I've only come here for the gigantic burritos, but they have quesadillas, fajitas, and such as well. You have a choice of flavored, flour, or whole wheat tortillas, delicious tofu, a variety of succulent meats, black and pinto beans, fresh veggies and guac. And a pretty nice salsa bar. So, so good.

The food tasty. The portion sizes are generous. And it's cheap. If you're not looking for some high-brow culinary experience, come here.

All the Senor Sams are owned by different folks and have different quality. I will drive an hour to Ashland for this SS's veggie tamales. So fantastic, I dare you to try and then try to order anything else. They are made for this location, cheese, chili and fresh corn, always need to go back for another.

I really like the idea of Senor Sam's, but they are not quite there yet. Building your own burrito is awesome, but they need the proper ingredients. For both regular and breakfast burritos, I was disappointed by their lack of meat options. I was hoping for a breakfast burrito with bacon, but they did not have any, and they should also include carne asada for their regular burritos. I do like that they have breakfast burritos, however, but they need to upgrade their selection of meat.

The Senor Sam's in Ashland is completely different from the rest of this local chain. You get _lots_ of food for your money and it tastes great.

Senor Sam's used to be the bomb, huge portions and great prices. The good news is that the portions (with the exception of guacamole) are still huge, the bad news is the prices keep rising. But over-all, Sam's is still a gem in our little city and well worth the prices.

Senor Sam's pushes healthy too far--bland, watery, weak is what comes to mind. If you need low-fat meat with beans, this might do, but Mexican it isn't.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
