Not bad at all. When I judge a coffee shop I judge it against the coffee shops that I have been to throughout the country, then I compare it to the other shops in the city I'm in, and finally much depends on the mood I'm in at the time of my visit. When I visited Shades of Brown I was in a rather cheerful mood (despite the horrendous biking conditions) and had only visited one other coffee shop in Tulsa. The vibe was pretty decent. I think Tulsa is a nice city and all, but for a bearded, tattooed, smelly, pothead, Jew, bike rider it can be a little scary at times. Any place that can make me forget where I am gets an automatic couple stars in my book, and Shades of Brown did just that. I was there a little bit after noon on a Wednesday in late January and it wasn't busy but it most certainly wasn't empty. I was able to kick back with a book and a laptop for a couple hours without feeling like I was overstaying my welcome. The service was average. There are some coffee shops that go out of their way to make the customers wait; they'll continue a conversation with an already served patron or busy themselves with some made up work just so you don't feel too special. This is not that place. There are some coffee shops where I feel like I've made a friend for life in the barista within the amount of time it takes to order a large black coffee. This is also not that place. It was somewhere in between, which is just fine with me. If I lived in Tulsa I wouldn't avoid Shades of Brown, but I also wouldn't go out of my way to go there.

So cozy. I love the little private rooms toward the back and the comfortable seating. They make great non-alcoholic grasshoppers! The only problem is, it's usually a bit crowded and hard to find a place to sit. But I guess that's not a bad problem to have, because everyone loves it.

Real awesome coffee shop feel! Reminds me some Bay Area house of coffee. Very relaxed vibe with the sweet sounds of Billie Holiday streaming at a level comfortable enough to have a conversation or even read. I'll be back for sure!

Shades of Brown is a must visit when you are passing through Tulsa. It has the most homey/comfortable vibe. The art changes constantly, but the coffee stays consistently delicious. The baked goods are excellent as well. Free wifi is the cherry on top of this great experience at Shades of Brown.

Another great Tulsa coffee shop nestled in the Brookside area. Parking at times can be rough, but not enough to keep me away.

Shades of Brown. Quite an off-putting name. But I was in need of coffee so I stopped in. The ambience is VERY nice. However the coffee is mediocre. Not much flavor to it, you should be able to taste some fruity tasting notes but there were none. Honestly it was just as bad as Starbucks. Also the pastries are kept refrigerated so when you get them, they're tough and cold. I'd go back if I was desperate but that's all.

Located in the short but vital cultural vein that runs through Tulsa's Brookside on Peoria, Shades of Brown Coffee and Art serves great coffee and displays interesting and at times provocative art. A nice haven for Tulsa's art and bohemian crowd. I have to say it's refreshing to see this young vital group in a city at odds with itself (that's another story). The cappuccino is very good, and the young folk are friendly if not a little timid. But hey, I know it's Tulsa. You have to be on your guard, which I have noticed is part of the local character. Back where I come from, if you're standing in line waiting, you strike up a conversation with the other person waiting to talk about the trouble you had finding a place to park just to come in to get a cup of joe. And he/she answers back with gusto. Anyway, I digress. This place is a winner. The only challenge I had was looking for the light switch to the men's l'eau; it's located outside the facility on the opposite side of the door!

Not great coffee. My espresso lacked flavor and mouth feel and the cup of coffee was served in a to go cup and tasted like nothing. Yes it has a great location and it's very cute inside, but if you're searching for good coffee, this is not your place.

My favorite coffee shop in Tulsa. I love the iced mocha or just a shot in the dark. The case is always filled with some amazing pastries. Friendly staff, free wifi, great area for people watching.

It's 3 pm, do you know where you are? You find yourself in a small, confined space surrounded by teenagers, soccer moms, and hipsters wearing headphones. You stand in a line for fifteen minutes while people order labor-intensive coffee/ tea beverages with names like "Iced Chumpkin." All you want is a coffee, but you have to suffer first. ...All messed up and no place to go...

Eclectic, laid back, delish! Love coming here.

The almond croissant is divine, but skip the dirty horchata. It is made from a mix and very disappointing. :(

ZOMG, cutest coffee shop in all the Tulsa-land. Ok, I will preface this review by saying that if you hate hipsters/hippIES, you will probably hate Shades of Brown. Seriously. If you hate hackey sacks (am I dating myself with this reference? some customers looked like hackey sack folk), skinny jeans on men and apple products, stay far away from this joint. Anyway, I'm from Chicago, I'm accustomed to a certain amount of hipster douchery. I walked right up to the counter and ordered a soy chai (to drink in the shop) and my girlfriend ordered a beverage as well. They served my chai in the coolest mug - it looked like a ceramics class project or something. The chai itself was very, very good and there was plentiful seating for us to choose from. We sat outside, talked and drank our delicious caffeinated beverages. One of the best chai's I've ever had, no doubt. This place is a keeper, if you can tolerate the customer base.

I really like this place to hang out for a few hours and work on my computer. They have great chai lattes. They are always friendly and accommodating. The pottery mugs are wonderful too! They're very environmentally friendly and have cute art and crafts for sale as well. I like how chill yet warm the atmosphere is. There are couches and chairs for comfort as well as tables and a quiet room in the far back of the shop if you want less distractions. You won't be disappointed here unless you mind the young vibrant crowd that sometimes socializes there in the evenings.

Shades of Brown is honestly one of the best places to get Coffee in the US. The coffee is quality and the baristas are very talented. The greatest Barista of all is Isaiah. He is perfect at steaming the milk and pouring the shots. His Rosettas are divine!! Go and get some amazing Espresso and enjoy the views. AAA+++

A fine hang out. I know a lot of people that spend too much time in Shades of Brown. I go in occasionally to hang out. Never really for drinks. I have tried coffee there a few times and it isn't good. I have been really careful to watch what is happening but nothing happens. They aren't doing anything wrong it just isn't good. Oh well. Hang out there.

Shades is probably one of the better coffee shops around Tulsa. I like the divided sitting areas, because if one room is taken over by musicians or a discussion group, you have a chance to still find a (semi) quiet space. Their chai is better than CHOCS, and when I've had their baked goods, they've been alright, but nothing too special. They also seem to have better prices, and they have a pretty eclectic group. I have to disagree about Husejin's comment about people being on their guard at Shades. I have strangers strike up conversations with me all the time here. Which reminds me that I agree with another poster's comment about eavesdropping at Shades. It's easy to do, whether you mean to or not.

  • Asa K.

Probably my favorite coffee in town. They use a really good brand of coffee and make really nice specialty drinks. The inside is very eclectic and artsy. Sometimes too artsy. The only negative thing I can really say about this place is the grunge aspect of the place. Sometimes if I go in looking a little too clean cut I get odd glances from the patrons and I've actually noticed warmer service from certain barrista's when I looked more hipster. Sit near the back rooms if you want to eavesdrop off the ever present small groups meeting there for all sorts of random things (church, book clubs)

  • Seth B.

They make a very good Americano, couldn't get a pour over due to short on staff, which was a bummer. Decent atmosphere.

  • Lindsay S.

Great coffee with an atmosphere that is quintessentially "coffee shop". We comfortably sat for a couple of hours to chat with some quality cappuccinos and chais. Definitely not something I expected to find in Tulsa, so this was a great surprise (Tulsa surprised me more than once, actually). The art is...interesting. I'll give it that. And it does add character to a place already full of relaxed character.

  • Bill H.

Exceptional and distinctive cappuccino. I find the space comfortable, tasteful, and welcoming.

    (5)
  • Jess B.

They have the best espresso in town for sure! My favorite is chai with a shot and soy milk. They are local and support various local artists with different exhibits. They have spoiled me so that anytime I have to go somewhere else for my dirty chai, it tastes totally watered down. They also have almond milk and vegan sweets.

Good: Decent coffee, free wifi, live music and poetry. Bad: Not much parking, teens. During the summer this place is flooded with teenagers. Last week there were about 20-30 teens sitting out side and more inside. I would avoid Shades of Brown in the summer.

  • Tawny T.

I love SoB! I go here weekly during the schoolyear to do homework and read while drinking a big pot of tea or one of their awesome Mexican cocoas. Generally, it's very quiet and very relaxing, and the baristas are extremely friendly. It's my favorite coffee shop in Tulsa, by far.

  • Carrie S.

If you love coffee houses as much as I do, then you will love this place. The coffee and teas are full of body and flavor! The atmosphere is casual and filled with vintage furniture...I like to grab a book, curl up in a big chair, and sip on my tasty drink!!! Honestly, this is probably my favorite place in Tulsa!!

  • Henry A.

They have the best Chai I've ever tasted. Also a cool environment.

  • Robert H.

My favorite coffee shop in Tulsa. With Bon Iver playing in the background and a cup of Costa Rican coffee, I could spend hours sitting and relaxing. Bring a good book or choose one from the bookcase, or choose a board game to play with a few friends or strangers.

This review will sync well if you read and listen to Patty Griffin's 'Oh Heavenly Day'. Friends, this is a cozy place to sip on something tasty and perhaps accompany it with a pastry. Inside you'll feel as though you've stepped into a coffee cabin filled with local art. Each month a different artist is featured. The chairs and couches have unique comfy character where you can read, work or catch up with a friend or two. Outside, the front patio is equipped with lounging as well with a prime view of Brookside people watching. The coffee, tea & soda menu is quite extensive and creative. Every Saturday evening Shades of Brown hosts live music from Gwen's Kids, a gypsy jazz band 7- 9:00PM. Don't know how this coffee house can sound any cozier? Pinch yourself. The owner, Melinda Currin and her mother hand make every mug. Uh huh- that's right. You can take home a bit of this goodness and purchase one of these mugs or another coffee accessory. Local jewelry and music is also available to purchase. Go get a coffee and an experience. Thank me later.

  • Patt G.

I can't review their coffee, since I don't drink it and I won't review the art because art is not something you can fairly evaluate. I like things other people don't and vice versa. What I will review is their chai latte, which was terrible. In fact, I don't think I've ever had a worse one. And that's saying a lot. The place is cute, although the hand made mugs are confusing. They have two different signs with two different prices. I wasn't the only one who thought so, as I saw another customer comment to her friend that she wasn't sure which price was correct, so she placed the mug back and did not buy it. It's not a bad place and their coffee might be good but for those of us who drink tea, they need to either make it better or lose us as customers. For me, I'll go elsewhere.

  • James S.

The coffee has always been solid in my opinion, but lately this little eclectic coffee den seems to have been neglected. I know it's supposed to feel like grandma's house, the old furniture is part of the charm, but my grandma dusts and cleans... Regulars might not notice or care but I never feel quite comfy in a dirty place. Might be a recent occurrence but the dust balls and cob webs tell a different story. Dust feathers and continued barista excellence assumed, Shades is worth a visit.

  • Jami H.

I've heard people rave about this place, but every time I've tried it I've been disappointed. The coffee can taste burnt to me. The pastry case is paltry with no gluten free options (I didn't see Vegan options either but may have missed them). The coffee is overpriced. Spend the same amount on incredible beverages and treats at CHOCS or Whole Foods down the street. Your taste buds will thank you. The two stars are for the polite barista and atmosphere. Also I love that they support local artists.

This coffee shop is one of my favorites in Tulsa. There decor is comfortable vintage furniture with very simple accents. It is the coffee shop I imagine in my dreams. There coffee is also a piece of heaven. I had their iced coconut milk latte the other day. It was the best caffeinated beverage I have had in a very long time. I have to find a way to replicate it at home. I will return to Shades of Brown anytime I am in Tulsa.

Been here several times. They have a great Chai. Very hipster environment. Very limited parking.

  • Jessica K.

Shades of Brown has great coffee and a i love that they have trinkets for sale like jewelry and cards (all from local artists). Tip: there is parking behind the building. Only negatives are that it's a little dirty at times and the food is just Ok.

Good drinks and good service. Really cute atmosphere and the art that you can buy in the cafe is cute and inexpensive

Pros: frozen grasshopper, chai latte (hot/iced), Mexican hot chocolate, relaxing environment, outside seating, free wifi Cons: smokers right in front of shop, the chairs/seats are highly uncomfortable, a bit pricey

  • Craig S.

Wow! Their Espresso is Killer! The Best I've had anywhere in the Midwest! The staff is friendly y engaging.. which I enjoy! There are at least 5 different little cubbies where You can get all cozy y cuddly with friends... Local Art on the walls y Local Music in air! Definitely dig it here! :)

My love for the bean was lost until I moved to Tulsa and got on yelp. The reviews brought me to this little place with it's homey feel and the fabulous scent of a real bean roasted to perfection. :) my love for coffee was rekindled. This coffee was made with magic, brewed, steamed, and blended to perfection. Yes the staff there are artist each cup a masterpiece! The atmosphere is a great place that even I can sit back in a comfy chair and take in a moment and become one with my cup of deliciousness.

    (5)
  • Jason B.

Let me first say that I like how cozy this shop is. The decor has a warm feeling that some coffee shops miss. The downside is that the coffee always tastes bitter and burnt. It's just not a shop you visit for high quality coffee.

I am an artist and I was looking for a coffee place. I looked up in my GPS and found this so I had to check this out. I was very disappointed. This place was very shabby and smelly and looked like a junk yard. It definitely was not artistic. The coffee was ok but the cups were dirty and the seating was awful. I had to step out for fresh air and I couldn't finish my coffee.

    (1)
  • Jill G.

Just really not a fan. The mini cinnamon rolls are from Sams the art is uncomfortable to look at while drinking morning coffee (a bride with blood running down her nose and other gross pics). The place did seem cleaner than I remember and the musty smell is gone. The walls that were once covered with only local art now offer local retail like jewelry and their pinch pot mugs.. and bride art. As far as the coffee, my latte was more of a cappuccino and the milk was scalded. I really didn't enjoy myself and will wait another 10 years before returning.

Fun, quiet, trendy place to do homework and get a nice chai :) I love going with friends as well! but always find myself there when I need to think or work on paper!

Cool atmosphere and location - very mediocre coffee. Tried out a cappuccino here and it had a head of foam much like a beer would. They probably focus more on the aspect than the coffee

Love the cool atmosphere! The chai is great and everyone is always super friendly.

Shades of brown is a great location for your pleasure of people watching, studying, reading outside, meeting up with friends, or just a place to chill whole you ingest caffeine. The inside has a very warm, cozy environment that makes you feel right at home. It's cool inside if you need a break from the heat and have some great drinks. There are also tables and chairs outside for enjoying the elements as well as some of the most splendid people watching. If you're looking for a drink to cool down in the hot sticky heat - I recommend the bhozidafa. (I'm not sure if it's spelled correctly but it's listed on the cool drinks on the small sign on top of the frig display). It's a blended frozen drink with caramel, extra shot of espresso and coffee grounds added for a great texture. For a warmer drink - I like the Prague mocha, not too rich, but perfect. Again, shades of brown is greasy for any of your caffeinated needs no matter what the weather is like.

They have one of the greatest cups of coffee I've had in all of Tulsa. Hands down. But if you're going for a fancy latte drink, you should prob go to Starbucks instead. I live all the way in Broken Arrow, but travel to Shades regularly for a large cup of coffee (with room for cream)!

    (5)
  • Scott C.

The coffees at Shades all have a beautiful presentation, the place is cozy, the staff is friendly, so it's all perfect for me. But what I truly love is spicy things, and Shades does it right by adding some cayenne pepper to one of their coffee's, giving it a kick that I truly love. I'm apparently addicted and can't stop going there. Overall, highly recommended.

This is a vey hipster coffee house on Brookside. My husband and I love trying to coffee houses so we will travel far and wide to find the perfect cup of coffee! When you walk in you immediately notice the art/ trinkets and unique furniture. The few times my husband and I have went the service has just been...ok.. It really depends what barista is working because my husband has gotten the same drink every time we have went and it tastes completely different every time. I have heard nothing but good things about this place but not really being a "hipster" myself, I really felt like it didn't live up to the hype! Just ok place to me!

My wife and I came here after dinner one night because we were looking for a quiet place to get some good coffee and visit. After reading the glowing reviews for this place from a couple of my favorite Elites (Sarah M. and Jazi H.) I knew it was just the spot. My wife ordered a Mexican hot chocolate, which she was very happy with. She said the kick of the pepper was just right. I ordered - and immediately fell in love with - a Prague mocha. The rich chocolate flavor was delicious. No ever mocha has come close to being this delicious. The handmade mugs are a nice touch to what is already an intimate and warm environment, the light jazz music and soft lighting making the place seem as comfortable as home. And the unique way they repurpose broken mugs into planters and sell them with succulents and bamboo plants is great. I look forward to many more visits.

Don't expect your dog to be able to come inside while you order for 2 mins. They will chase you away. I thought that was extremely rude and inappropriate. You can bring your dogs to Starbucks. I was only holding them on their leash while I ordered a drink to go! Uh uh.

    (1)
  • Bethany H.

Good atmosphere and liked the coffee. The service was a little slow, but this is due to the laid back atmosphere of the whole shop. I will return! Also free wifi ;)

what a fun brookside treat. with only a Starbucks on brookside, shades of brown fills the need for a true coffee shop. it kind of resembles a cute old house with your grandmother's furniture. cute. hipstery. extremely laid back. great staff. tasty coffee. I come here to read & drink coffee a few times a month. or catch up with a friend over some tea. it is the perfect location for this. try it!

I walked in and told the barista to make me whatever he wanted, the gentleman made me a RootBeer Coffee, which is simply half a glass of RootBeer and half a cup of coffee mixed together. It was the worst thing I had ever tasted in my life. If you've got dreads, and don't appreciate showers... You will love their coffee.

  • Michael C.

Good coffee, nice atmosphere, friendly staff. Bad wifi, crowded, a little pricey.

  • Jessika G.

What a cool little place. Art and coffee always goes well together. It's a little tight so unless you don't want everyone to hear what you are talking about I would take your coffee to go. Coffee was decent - grabbed a mocha to drink while I was there chatting up a friend, and then took a regular coffee to go. You can always tell a good coffee place if you don't need to add sugar or honey to your regular coffee. I didn't need to add sugar or honey, just a little cream! Definitely would stop in again.

I frequent Shades when I do my laundry at the laundromat on the other side of the same building, and it's a nice place to pass time and have a coffee. The baristas are all wonderful and many of them are local artists and musicians. The ONLY time I've been less than thrilled here was when a newer barista was playing Nickelback and totally ruined my desire to sit and relax. "So why is your rating just an A-OK?" A couple reasons: 1. I don't like that it's just not well taken care of. I'm all about vintage furniture and a shabby chic look, but this place is just run down looking. The furniture has holes, stains, doesn't look clean, and some of it is just broken. The walls are scuffed beyond belief. It's one of those "take pride in your presentation" things that my Mom drilled into my head as a kid and it just makes me feel like not much effort is going into the experience. 2. The coffee is simply A-OK. It's good. It's just not above-and-beyond good. It's not the baristas' fault - They do stellar work and put together wonderful beverages...it's just that the coffee itself - the core ingredient - is not that spectacular. But that's not to say I don't enjoy the drinks I order. So, A-OK. That all aside, I will be back the next time it's laundry day and I have some time to burn. WI-FI, coffee and seats makes this my favorite spot to wait for the laundry to dry and work on my computer.

When I worked at Starbucks we would always have these meeting about being the neighborhood coffee place. Having an ambiance that is inviting and unique. Having furniture that is worn in yet worn with character. Yo can't manufacture that. It comes out of love not profit. Its comes out of creativity and sometimes need. Its does come from obligation to shareholders. Shades is that place that corporate coffee wishes it could be. I love it!

Lovely little coffee shop, I like the mismatched used furniture. Prices are right, coffee and tea=very good. More cozy than a Starbucks. Great location on Brookside.

Shades has a very inviting, cozy feel. The furniture, the lay out, and the decor just make you want to pull up a chair and hang out for those lazy Sunday afternoons. There are a series of little rooms for you to camp out in with a warm cup of coffee. For those of us that don't have a 9 hour battery life laptop, there are plenty of outlets available throughout the little hangout. The wi-fi is free. Oh, and by the way, the coffee is great.

  • Mike S.

I'm giving this place four-stars because it's the best thing I've ever been able to find in Oklahoma in my many times passing through. The coffee is about average for a coffee-shop. The motif is welcoming, with an array of used furniture. The staff was friendly. However, Tulsa hipsters don't even ride fixies... pshah! If you're going to clip keys to your jeans, wear a loose-fitting beany and all of that, I suggest that you start riding hipsters bikes to go get your coffee, everyone was coming and going in.. gasp.. automobiles.

Shades of Brown serves some of the best coffee drinks I've ever had. My favorite is the Big Train Grasshopper - wow! It is incredibly creamy for a frozen coffee...mmm.... The kids behind the counter really seem to have it going on. They are friendly and they make amazing tasting drinks that are also beautiful. I try to sip the hot ones carefully to keep the swirly foam design intact as long as possible. The hand-made pottery mugs add a lot to the charm of the place as do the artwork and the ecclectic mix of people and furniture. I have spent many long, quiet, unemployed mornings there, surfing for a job on the free wi-fi. The one time I visited at night with some friends was pleasant. It was a Wednesday night around 9pm and we were able to sit all together at a table. One of these Saturday nights I want to stop in for some live music. I always get the specialty drinks, so I can't comment on the regular brewed stuff. The baked goods are completely skippable - I haven't tried them all, but I've tried enough of them now to know better. And the place is a little pricey. I usually spend $6 or $7 on one drink (including a dollar tip).

It was my first trip to Tulsa and I was wondering where to find some coffee. Stumbled upon this place and am a big fan. The espresso is very good and my iced latte was delicious.

  • Jennifer H.

I wanted to take this place with me when I left! I have never had someone pour me a latte with a Rosette! I thought I'd died and gone to heaven. This place was very casual, and low key - when I stopped back in to buy a couple of mugs (made by local potter Linda Coward from Brookside Pottery) there was someone at the counter doing what looked to be their calculus homework. As always, open late and free wi-fi.

  • Brett B.

Just really good coffee with atmosphere and talented baristas to top it off. I wish I had access to this place back when I was in college. It's quiet, comfortable and naturally has free wi-fi. It's a real coffee house. I know it will have a long run in Tulsa.

  • Sue D.

Great place for a cup of joe, a good book and people watching. I'm sure they charge a bit more than what you would pay for at Starbucks, but you're paying for the cozy atmosphere, artsy feel and hominess of Brookeside. They also have fantastic scones and biscotti. The baristas are also very friendly. Great place to catch up with friends :)

  • Derek R.

Horribly over-rated. Every time I've gone, the espresso was salty. The atmosphere isn't that great, and the art on the walls is mediocre high school level stuff.

    (2)
  • Victoria L.

I feel bad writing a poor review but I really don't like this place. The art on the wall is sad though I'm glad the owner gives starving artists their 15 minutes of fame. The smell in there is too much for me to handle. It reeks of like paint and chemicals. I also don't like getting my drink in a hand made clay cup that look like pinch pot.

I have always really liked SOB. It's great during the day and on the weekends but if you're going over there on Thursday, Friday or Saturday night, watch out - there are some loud kiddies EVERYWHERE. I mean, I can't read my magazine without wanting to pull my hair out while thoughts of... so and so said this about so and so... and wasn't bible study amazing when so and so started busting out on the guitar... and can you believe so and so didn't call me back... run through my head. AGH! So love it, I do. Love it enough to share every inch of my inner self with every person inside? Not quite. And if you're looking for some tasty treats with your coffee, I haven't found it at SOB. I've tried, really I have. But their muffins are so granola that they just taste bland. Now that Cherry Stree Coffee has opened up, I like it much more. And I have a feeling that I'm not the only traitor looking for a little more chill atmosphere.

I liked this place. It has a cute decor and very yummy iced yerba mate, which I love and is not normally easily found at a coffee shop. It was a good price too only 2.45 although their coffee did seem a little pricy. I liked the little room in the back to work in. I got some work done as it has a quite atmosphere with chill tunes in the background and comfy vintage chairs. I am not really a coffee shop kinda gal but I'll be back and am glad to see this place in my new neighborhood.

What to say about Shades... Well, for starters, be prepared to be reverse judged if you're wearing shoes, because every time I've been the gaggle of hippies that are lounging with their macbooks (so am I, for the record) stare at me like a freak for wearing regular-people clothes. The "outdoor seating" is two-ish chairs on the street, usually designated for cigarette smoking (hand-rolled, of course). If you like local coffee shops, may I suggest the best one in Tulsa- The Coffee Shop on Cherry Street. That's really the name, not just a vague business reference to a popular Tulsa district. You should go.

Coffee was better than average and the barista seemed talented. The mugs are all custom made, which is cool, and the atmosphere is pretty cool. Overall, the coffee was a little overpriced. Verdict: A decent, trendy coffee shop that's worth visiting a couple times (try an alter egos cupcake).

Pretty decent coffee house. Nice atmosphere, it's very dark inside though. Local art on the walls. I really like the cups and saucers they serve their coffee in. Regular coffees were available around the counter unlimited, so i didn't like to see that it was just in one of those large thermoses. But the hot chocolate was really good, nice, rich and thick. I think they're trying too hard to be chill and not care, but don't all coffee houses do that? It's nice to support local businesses, and they are a different coffee house than Starbucks, but very similar to the Coffee Shop on Cherry St.

Cool atmosphere and location - very mediocre coffee. Tried out a cappuccino here and it had a head of foam much like a beer would. They probably focus more on the aspect than the coffee

I come here to read & drink coffee a few times a month. or catch up with a friend over some tea. it is the perfect location for this. try it!

Uh uh.

Shades of Brown has great coffee and a i love that they have trinkets for sale like jewelry and cards (all from local artists). Tip: there is parking behind the building. Only negatives are that it's a little dirty at times and the food is just Ok.

Shades of Brown is a must visit when you are passing through Tulsa. It has the most homey/comfortable vibe. The art changes constantly, but the coffee stays consistently delicious. The baked goods are excellent as well. Free wifi is the cherry on top of this great experience at Shades of Brown.

I love it!

  • Jess R.

Just really good coffee with atmosphere and talented baristas to top it off. I wish I had access to this place back when I was in college. It's quiet, comfortable and naturally has free wi-fi. It's a real coffee house. I know it will have a long run in Tulsa.

I like the idea of it more than I actually like it.

Horribly over-rated. Every time I've gone, the espresso was salty. The atmosphere isn't that great, and the art on the walls is mediocre high school level stuff.

I love SoB! I go here weekly during the schoolyear to do homework and read while drinking a big pot of tea or one of their awesome Mexican cocoas. Generally, it's very quiet and very relaxing, and the baristas are extremely friendly. It's my favorite coffee shop in Tulsa, by far.

They have the best Chai I've ever tasted. Also a cool environment.
