If you need a place to study and escape the crowded coffee shops then the Gypsy is perfect. I have spent many hours there studying and my class mates love coming to the Gypsy. The staff is so sweet and although some times they run out of food items, they try to make it the best experience. Plus when you need a break from studying the Guthrie Green is right there...I love the Gypsy

Likes: comfy, never crowded, doesn't have the scene shades of brown gets, but open mic Wednesday's are always entertaining ( not always good). There's plenty of seating decent wifi. a patio! dislikes: it's on the shadiest backside of downtown, street parking only, always approached by bootleg hustlers & the homeless. it's far. It's a coffee shop, not far from the blue dome/Brady district, definitely good for working/studying and local talent. Bypass other hipster coffee homes & chill here

Couch surfing to the melody of the open mic pianist on a Tuesday night. It's no Sochi winter Olympic final in men's moguls, but it's easily the best thing to do on a work night. I happened onto this spot after a friend of a friend of a friend of a friend... of a colleague mentioned it through the grapevine. Ok, that's actually false. My girlfriend was grabbing lunch at Laffa and the bartender mentioned it to her. She came traipsing back home giddy with plans for a Tuesday night - and I took her up on the plan. Definitely happy with our decision! Now back to the aforementioned, Winter Olympics trumping, open mic bit. They have a signature Cafe Mocha that hit the spot. It was served in one of those embellished coffee cups that you would find in a Pixar Movie - where the cute cuddly hero falls in and almost drowns. I kinda wished I could have jumped into that Mocha. It was piled with whipped cream and this chocolate drizzle.... Mmmmmmm Drizzle. The place is very, exposed industrial concrete meets ethnic hipster grunge [no such thing exists- but that string of adjectives appealed to me].... in short, it's a standard comfy coffee house for artists. Which kinda explains the colorful troupe of characters that showcased the night. I definitely intend to return during the day to just sit back and grab lunch. It's just far enough away from all the yuppie downtown corporate stooges; but also close enough for this corporate stooge to return back to work without having to stray too far from downtown. Personally - I like the atmosphere and the workers. Very sociable and inviting atmosphere and not at all packed. I guess a few more trips will be needed to get a full verdict; but for now I really dug the place as a tuesday night hangout.

Loved this little dimly-lit cove of a study place. Really it is perfect for studying - kind of that gritty, gypsy, cold place where you really do need the lamps that are on the booth tables and maybe a light that you bring on your own. It is the type of place you'd expect to find hookah, but I don't think they have that. The space is pretty big as well, and there's a room with pillows. Okay, it wasn't really cold, but it had a cold kind of feel, like you'd want to bring your cozy things and the people there would be mighty fine with that. Kind of a laid-back, anything goes place. I was uber hungry, and they gave me a generous portion of their "power bar," which was something I might make at home - a raw mixture of oats, chocolate, peanut butter, etc. So delicious. I wish every cafe would have food that I would make at home. I also had a moroccan mint tea latte and my friend at a pizza flatbread thing. It was all pretty high-quality, and the person working there was really authentically nice. It is weird - like all the people in Tulsa are mindful and conscious and wonderful. Anyways, if you need to get some serious studying done, this is the place to get down and do it.

I love this place! I have been here numerous times to be entertained on Poetry Night! Yeah, especially when I went through some very serious traumatic times from 2008-2011. This was the potent hot chocolate to warm my entire being. My favorite thing to order over there are their croissants that I love to smother with butter. Although I am a poet myself, I came to listen and be entertained while licking my emotional wounds. The staff members at this place are wonderful. I felt comfortable and right at home. Open mic poetry night is very entertaining. Some of the poets are very witty, too! Although it may take some time before I get the nerve to finally do an open mic session myself, I will continue to visit and enjoy my favorite croissants with butter.

The place where people go to have an excessive amount of eye sex. I have never seen so many pillows in one place in my entire life. Bad coffee, bad employees, bad atmosphere, great place if you want to feel like genie in a bottle.

Gypsy is kooky and laid back, the food is good, and the coffee is excellent. Not much else to say about it. Cute patio spaces. Lots of extra cool points for the ghosts that reportedly haunt the building.

Stopped in for a sandwich before the Art Crawl last week. The staff was friendly, the place was decently busy, and my wrap was fine, but nothing too special for the price. $18 for a bottle of water, a sandwich, a wrap, and an iced coffee....i'm not expecting them to give stuff away but my husband's sandwich was mostly bread. And he said the iced coffee tasted bad before he added sweetener (he doesn't usually add sweetener to ANY coffee). At least the drinks were cheap! I used to come to this place all the time 10 years ago but i'd also never ordered anything but fancy, sugary coffee drinks. Sucks growing up lol.

Food is good coffee is great, I would say a 4 star except the wifi has problems sometime. But over all great place to sit and do work and drink coffee

We were traveling through Tulsa and needed to stop somewhere with wifi. This was an easy off and back on from the interstate. And they had free wifi! This place was super cute inside. Loved my chai tea latte and we had done really yummy flatbread. Wish I lived nearby, I'd definitely be a regular.

A little more removed from the other coffee spots downtown, this neat little coffeehouse offers a great vibe for anyone looking to grab a cup of coffee and enjoy a book or work on a project. I've had coffee a few times here, and while the coffee is nothing to write home about, the atmosphere is really interesting and unique. Definitely worth stopping in if you're at the Guthrie Green or around that area and in need of refreshment. It isn't my favorite coffee in town but I still make a point of getting a latte once in a while to show my support for its art friendly space!

The building and location are cool. But first thing I notice when I come in is it smells pretty bad--like a faint odor of rotten eggs. Must be a sewage problem nearby, it's an old building. Then I look at their loose tea selection, not bad. The price wasn't given on the list, and I assumed a normal price. The guy (who was nice) asks if I'd like cream and honey. I said sure. The bill comes up to $6.08! For tea! I asked them abt it and they said it's bec the honey is extra. Who charges for honey? I said, ok, no honey. So they kindly re-did the bill for me. Meanwhile, I check the other menu where I found the prices for tea and it's $3.00 for a pot and $5.00 for a french press. So, either the barrista automatically upgraded me without asking, or what they really mean is there is a two tier pricing for loose teas and tea bags (which I didn't see till later). Ok, fine, it better be amazing tea. Then the guy brings my tea out to me and it comes in... A pot. Not the French press that I supposedly paid extra for. Really? The coffee here might be amazing, but if you want tea, hit up Cherry St. or somewhere else....

There is trendy and cool and then there is this place, which is just sort of trendy...not cool at all, especially if you were unfortunate enough to visit the men's restroom. The whole building just had a very unclean vibe about it, and I was questioning if I should eat anything that wasn't prepackaged. I like the color scheme and ambiance of the place to a degree, but being vintage does not give you an excuse to not clean ;p I ordered an iced coffee and turkey croissant sandwich that came with ruffles potato chips and a funky tasting pickle. The sandwich was...a sandwich, not great but not bad either. Needed some mayo. The iced coffee was dribble though! For a coffee shop, i was expecting something exceptional, but it tasted like it had been on the burner for days. I had to add a lot of creamer and artificial sweetener to make it drinkable. The price was pretty steep for the type of food you get as well. We won't be going back here anytime soon. To leave things on a positive note, they DO have FREE parking! Woo-hoo! that's a rarity at a restaurant in downtown Tulsa, so kudos to them for providing that.

My first visit, and boy was delish! I had Cobb salad and drip beef sandwich with au ju sauce. Salad was so fresh and lots of avacado slices. Sandwich was sooo good. Will def. return..I have always heard good reviews, but just now checking place out. Gina Mac

Super cool and hip atmosphere! One of the best hangouts in downtown Tulsa. There is live music, and the coffee is decent. This is where my first date with my husband was so I may be a little partial! We snuggled up on the couch with coffee and chatted and the rest is history.

My experience here was very interesting the atmosphere is kind of cool. Although it does seem like the kind of place where old hippies would hang out and smoke pot all day. The coffee was okay the cake that I had was delicious but I don't think I Would go there for my next cup of Joe.

Every coffee I've ordered has been delicious and their sandwiches are yummy as well. It's quiet so it's a great place to relax or study.

Every time I'm in Tulsa, I made it a point to stop in at Gypsy Coffee. It is one of my favorite if not, my favorite coffee shop in the country! The general manager made a really good impression on me the first time I visited the shop, she was really kind and friendly and I had really appreciated that. The bathrooms are always clean and I love how there is a front and back entrance and exit. It makes it easier if you park in the back to enter through the back without having to walk all around the building. The inside is really nice and roomy, I've never been there while there was a huge crowd but I've been there while the place had a acoustic guitar singer playing a set and it was very mellow and not overbearing. The coffee itself is pretty good but I think it is on the pricer side of things but I mostly recommend this place for the atmosphere.

Very cool place, good coffee, & right off the highway. Found it on Yelp driving back from California to Memphis and it was a perfect 30 minute resting spot.

The biggest difference between this hipster-artsy-emo-student coffee shop called Gypsy in Tulsa and anything you'd find in my town of Venice Beach, is that the toothless hillbilly tweakers stay outside in California! At Gypsy they are part of the entertainment... The coffee is decent but perhaps overpriced by a small but noticeable 10%. Snacks in the case are also good with some delicious looking cakes. There is ample comfy seating and tables if you bring your laptop. I took off a star because of what I'm about to tell you about Tuesday open mic night, and also left it a 2 instead of 1 giving the benefit of doubt that it is better the rest of the week. Kids, EARMUFFS! Among the regular so-called performers is a guy who writes poetry about subjects like rape and murder which are recited in absolutely graphic detail. Since I'm not a fan of crystal meth or hometown Megan's Law heroes, I am probably going to find another place for coffee on Tuesday nights.

I love the atmosphere and the desserts. They have some really good coffee drinks, but my favorite is the double bergamot Early Grey.

Had to go into this place a couple times to use their internet and loan someone musical equipment. It's pretty rough. Super-smelly-guy-with-no-shoes-playing-WOW kinda rough. And that's not just comparing the business to that kinda person; he was actually there. It has all the symptoms of a bad time; vampire novel obsessed rednecks, pre-hipsters, old lady in the bright teal mumu, and dudes with pony-tails in rat-pack hats that probably have a sizable anime porn collection. The staff was extremely nice and the place is clean, but the atmosphere of a place like this is the make-or-break. Would not go back for love or money. (...but it get two stars because it has Wi-Fi!)

I find it very strange that someone would label Gypsy as "scary". It has a very eclectic mix of customers it is true, from Law Students to the Goth/Punk Crowd, but it isn't a front business. There is a salon upstairs, and the "back room" is just another place to sit that happens to have a desktop computer. When we are in town we generally sit back there to keep our toddlers from disturbing the other patron's. I took off one star because it is in Oklahoma. *makes a face*

Gypsy is my favorite coffee destination. No trendy snobs here and no judging. I don't feel like i have to dress up to go there and the coffee is the best! This is a great place to go and relax, meet your friends, do homework and just chill out!

I met some many wonderful people here...great friends, lovers, and others whom I consider family. We used to come here when I was in college and wanted to get away from the suburbs. This location is in the heart of downtown...and the area is usually asleep. Downtown Tulsa is one of those places that goes to sleep at night. In this particular location the area is rich in history and architecture..the building date back the 1920s...maybe earlier. This building is all brick with cool artsy windows. The interior is rich with color on the walls, and different couches. It attract an artsy crowd and they have weekly poetry readings. Any artistic mind in Tulsa comes out here to bath in the presence of their brothers and sisters. I am not too excited bout the coffee honestly, but I love the staff, really cool peeps. I come for the friends and comfy atmosphere. Totally recommend for a huge change of pace in Tulsa.

Decent coffee shop, really the only coffee shop in the Brady Arts District downtown. The coffee is all right, but they have a great selection of teas. The crowd's really eclectic; it'll be different every time you're there. Back when I used to go a lot it was sort of an odd mix of goths and gays, but the crowd seems to have changed some since then. It's also nice that it's open late. And they finally got rid of the $5 minimum to use plastic (it was against Visa/Mastercard's merchant agreement anyway). Decent coffee, nice employees, good atmosphere, and great for people watching. Oh, also it's open after the bars close on Friday and Saturday.

Going by the reviews here, I made a plan to visit while I was in town. I was glad I did - the large iced latte was indeed very large (and came with a fancy straw topper). I got there rather early in the evening (5pm) and found myself the oldest person in the room rather quickly. There was a group of "kids" on the other side of the room, playing acoustic guitars and showing each other their licks. The atmosphere was very laid back, and I can appreciate that. I don't know if it was the time of day that I was there or what - but I definitely felt a little old and out of place, and I'm only 33!

Okay, I am rating the Gypsy to knock it down a peg, because it is not that great. The coffee is awful, everything is overpriced, and its patrons are generally of two categories: high school mallcore kids and extremely creepy old men. The Gypsy will also force you to leave if you do not buy something, but also complicate the matter by keeping you from purchasing something w/a credit or debit card unless you reach the $5.00 minimum. With the 5 or so other coffee shops in Tulsa, you should definitely avoid this one. The only reason I gave it 2 stars is that it has provided me with some hilarious memories of scenester kids, and that it is open until 2AM on weekends.

I would recommend passing on this place. It scares me. I feel like there is some behind the scenes operation going on and I am the odd one just buying coffee and not something illegal. The coffee isn't good and a lot of cheap sprinkles and flavors to cover it up.

although i can't seem to find this place open when i want my coffee in the morning, i will rate it as a true coffee-shop in every other sense of the term. as to the originality of the gyp... i have never been to a place more welcoming to all groups of people. i have seen a woman using the gyp as a movie set, i have seen a bridal shower there, i have seen a hippie concert there as well as a cigar aficionado party there. the place caters to the talented and eclectic eccentric. i was there in 2001 for tuesdays open mic night and as i understand, the mic night is still going strong as oklahomas longest running open mic night. i love the gypsy, i love bradley (the owner), and i love to be among the large band of people in town and in the world that have this place in common.

Coffee is just ok. Baked goods are excellent when they have fresh ones. Atmosphere is good when the high school kids aren't there.

The worst americano I have ever experienced. Go there for people. Not coffee.

I have a deep appreciation for this place. I have met some fantastic friends and had some good times at this establishment. I only occasionally have a cup of joe, but this is absolutely, one of my favorite places to go. I work in downtown and have enjoyed the quiet escape for a quick lunch, or take the work laptop and go to the Gypsy for a change of scenery. Excellent service, Good coffee, delicious sandwiches, and fabulous desserts!

I am not a frequent coffee shop goer... This could have only been my 3 ever coffee house stop ever. For what it's worth, this small town country boy digs this place. Coffee was hot (yup, just a solid cup of drip... Old school), the server was nice and the atmosphere was fun. I will definitely go back.

I'm honestly really let down. I heard so many great things about this place, but I didn't experience anything close to it. I payed for an overly priced drink to be given to me in a styrofoam cup, and it wasn't even good. I don't mind paying for overly priced anything, but I expected something different, not a styrofoam cup.. And I'm a big coffee lover, but I didn't even finish it. A big let down. FYI about $6. However, they did have live music and the atmosphere was really chill. A lot of older people. The decor was really outdated, but I think they are going for the right idea. They do have guest wifi but it's locked. I plan on giving this place a second chance sometime in the future, but I rate this place a C- for now.

Visited Gypsy Coffee House 2 or 3 times now while I've been in Tulsa working. I usually catch it on the way out of town as I make my drive back to OKC. Gypsy is in a very old building downtown. If you come in the back way, I'll be honest...it looks a bit shady. The giant hole in the side of the foundation makes me think twice, but the hole seems to have no bearing on the quality of their products. Every time I've visited I've had the same thing. Cold Brew is one of those things I'm new to & I really like...especially when its hot out. So far I haven't been disappointed. Nice, strong, ice-cold coffee! The staff are a bit unusual. First time I went they were friendly & helpful. The last time I was there the girl wasn't exactly friendly & was more concerned about doing something on her phone that talking with me. That aside, all was good. The inside is basically like an old house with retro furniture and feels like an old grandma's basement. Probably a cool place to hang out if I had the time.

Coffee, tea, sweet treats quiche and culture thrive here at the Gypsy! Tucked away in an unassuming warehouse in downtown Tulsa, is this gem. The atmosphere is totally coz, comfortable and inspiring to get stuff done on a computer, read, a book, knit, etc. There are nooks galore of couches, chairs and booths. Looseleaf tea and teabags are an option with lots of flavors; my favorite is the peppermint. The coffee I've had here is more on the mild side but gets the caffeine job done. Pastries and quiches are a must - homemade and you will enjoy every bite!

There has been a lot of negative talk about this place on here, but you have to realize what this place IS and who it is FOR. This a place for high schoolers and college age kids who aren't quite old enough for the bar scene to come, feel hip, and hang out with their friends. I don't want to hang out here, but I'm too old for it, in the same way I don't enjoy going to incredible pizza- but my kids love it! Don't talk trash about a place just coz it ain't your scene.

I likes. Super cool feel to this place. I could hang out here all night. They're playing Chicago blues. Coffee is good and the vibe is even better. An out of the way joint you discover like an oasis in the desert.

ya know.. I went here the other night for the second time and just wasn't thoroughly impressed. the coffee was okay, but I just didn't dig the atmosphere. I had been once during the day after work and it was fine, but at night, the place just had a different - not as pleasurable, maybe a little bit creepy - vibe. also, I am mid twenties, and I felt a bit out of place that evening.. pretty sure the rest of the Gypsy population was either in high school or freshman college students. not for me. the location is cool though..downtown close to Guthrie Green. there are tables to drink your coffee outside. just not my kinda vibe. the place was packed on a Saturday night, though, so they've got some strong followers probably won't be back here again with so many other good coffee spots in Tulsa.
