I enjoy El Tequila more than most Tulsa Mexican restaurants. Their salsa is delicious and plentiful. The margaritas are good. The entrees are well prepared and authentic. Service is generally good. I like all the goodies they serve with the fajitas. We'll be here often.

Horrible location. Go to 81st Street instead. Bad food, slow service, bad service, and kept forgetting things we ordered (like queso), never refilled chips (they were almost empty before our entrees came). I've had such awesome food and service at the 81st Street location so many times, this was a huge disappointment!

This is an impossible combination of good, cheap, and fast. The servings are so big that my girlfriend and I share a dinner and go home quite full. The only downside is that it is always noisy.

I've been here with my family approx. 4-5 times now. The food & mixed drinks are great. They have wonderful customer service. The sausage cheese dip super amazing!!

I am giving this a five on Tulsa Midwest Mexican food. They are actually pretty legit and way superior to señor tequila, etc. They have awesome queso, flautas, enchiladas and their alcohol is reasonably priced. I hate the fountain in the middle but I won't take away a star for it.

i may rate this restaurant too high, but with regards to the reason i eat there my rating is dead on. i appreciate good service and inexpensive-tasty food and this restaurant fits all these categories. my co-works and i come here on a regular basis and we are rarely disappointed (it is getting busier which is the only negative).

This place isn't bad for what it is. The foods good. It not badly priced. Its really loud though so don't go in there expecting to have a conversation with whoever your with. I probably won't go back just because there are other places I like better for the same price. And the one on 81st and memorial is absolutely awful. The waiter or other staff never came to our table to offer tO refill drinks or see how we were doing and when they did they were short and rude.

Absolutely terrible Mexican food. On a recent trip through Tulsa, my family decided to stop at this restaurant and get lunch. At first, the restaurant seemed promising, good salsa, chips, and reviews. I could not have been more wrong. I ordered enchiladas, a Mexican restaurant staple. When my food came it looked like a tv dinner you heat in the microwave; it also tasted like it. The melted queso tasted like velveta cheese, and the ground beef filling the enchilada was reminiscent of the beef filling a taco bell taco. This sub-par lunch unfortunately extended to the rest of my family. My mother ordered a chicken breast with vegetables. The vegetables were the frozen mixed variety, and the chicken breast was covered in a red paste similar to canned tomato paste. Ultimately, this is quite possibly the worst Mexican food I have eaten in years.

Do not go there. They have roaches. The service was bad. The food had cheap meat. The only good thing about the place were the prices.

Great food. Fast service. Atmosphere perfect for families, groups, etc. Business is great as shown by the packed parking lot almost every night. Only thing that is slow is getting the check. Ask for it early if you're short on time.

I got the El Guapo. It was pretty good. Grilled boneless chicken, topped with spinach & queso. Along with rice & refried beans that's topped with cheese. I like how the chicken was seasoned. The cheese & spinach was really good. All of the components worked well together. I also had the Margarita Cadillac. It was strong! Tres Generaciones, Grand Marnier, orange liquor, sweet'n sour & lime juice. It had me right where I needed to be.

Fast service from the beginning to end. I loved how they brought out monkey dishes for each person to pour salsa in. The basket of chips never got empty and our drinks were always full! Food was delicious and came out fast. Price was cheap and the restaurant was very clean and had a cool fountain in the center. We will be coming back next year!

Got side window smashed in parking lot. No cameras, no manager on site to help. Food was good as always but will never go back now.

Maybe I hit them on a bad night, although my continual beef with this experience and virtually every experience at the Memorial location is they don't deliver all the food to all members of your party at the same time. Tonight: no exception! So my wife gets her entire order, and I sit starring at her eating for four minutes until my entrée arrives. So hire an expediter already! I'm of the opinion you should be offered a drink refill BEFORE your drink glass is empty. And when it's empty for several minutes it's time to get out of the business. If you provide complementary chips and salsa and your salsa isn't kerosene, keep both refilled. When I have my wallet and credit card laying on the table for four or five minutes it's no longer considered a hint! The order taker was also the dining room's hostess but our table was at her 10 o'clock position at eighteen feet, so needless to say she could see us. So in the end $29 tab and $2 tip and I'm usually a 15-20 percent tipper. If you can live through the service aggravations though, their food is good.

Despite the lack of lettuce in my fajita chicken salad, this place has good food, good service, and fantastic prices. We ordered 2 fajita chicken salads (which were giant and could have easily fed 2) and a margarita for $20. What value! If I am ever in Tulsa, OK again, I'll be sure to become a regular.

Pretty, relaxing, dim decor. Slow service, we had to wave the guys down. Lovely food. Enormous margaritas! I had a 'grande' frozen margarita (specify frozen, because the default is the traditional non-frozen) which was a martini-glass-shaped bucket. The only veggie item on the menu seemed to be vegetable fajitas, which were excellent -- came with a pile of grilled vegetables, some tomato rice and refried beans, lettuce, and pico de gallo. We didn't stay long, we ate, paid, and ran. I would love to relax here and spend more time. The prices are very low and everything is great.

Fans of the other locations won't be disappointed. Lots more seating, same great service (they were wearing Red Shirts instead of the normal white Tux shirts). When this place is busy, it's a case of dodge the waiter as these guys are one step away from running. A good solid choice.

This restaurant just opened a few weeks ago, it was built in the building that used to be a Johnnie's charcoal Broiler, which went out of business about a year ago. The food is excellent, my wife had a chile relleno lunch portion, and the portion was so large, she had to take about 1/2 of it home. I had tamale lunch portion, plus and additional tamale, with the rice and beans, and that really satisfied me. The food was so flavorful. The Horchata had a mild cinnamon in it that almost tasted flowery, like a jasmine, I liked that. The tortilla chips tasted like they were fresh out of the fryer, and were bottomless.

pretty awesome mexican restaurant in Tulsa!! i missed all the mexican restaurant back home in CA, but this place satisfies my crave for mexican food. I had the tequila steak and it was very flavorful. I must say their chili verde is very good. It's not on the menu, but they sure will make it for you! Great customer service as well! :)

Really good food! Lots of salsa & chips & we ordered queso (white) which was really good. We ordered 1)Monterey Tacos: 3 soft with nicely seasoned chicken. The tacos were very filled with chicken. Cheese, lettuce & pic de gallo were served on the side. This was my husband's meal & he only ate 1 taco after having had chips with salsa & queso. Personally I would have need 3x the lettuce & twice the cheese provided to have a sufficient amount for each taco. 2)My 12 year old & I shared the Enchiladas Racheros. They were very good & even with sharing we had some left over. Nice flavor. 3)My 16 yo daughter had 2 cheese quesadillas with rice & beans. She hadn't had any lunch & was very hungry & still only ate a little of her 2nd quesadilla. 3)My 19 yo son had the Sante Fe...also a very large amount of food. I was able to sneak a couple of bites & it was very tasty! He only ate about 1/2 & I'm already hoping he forgets his leftovers are in the fridge so I can have them for lunch on Monday. :) Overall, wonderful food & atmosphere. Very large servings with our meals & large queso averaging $10 each. We had a very friendly waitress who started out well initially but as we were in a back corner didn't do well checking back with us after our meals were served & there were a couple things we needed. We tried to get her attention but were unsuccessful.(That cost a star.) We aren't from Tulsa & only come a 2/3 times a year but this is a place we would definitely enjoy coming back to.

For consistency and value, I don't think you can do any better. I've been eating at El Tequila for 10 years and can honestly say I've never had a bad meal. The location at 81st and Memorial is good too, however, it may have dropped a notch since Raymond is no longer the Mngr.

El Tequila is the place to go for cheap, decent Mexican food, especially at lunch time. They have a lot of lunch specials and the service is quick and efficient. It's not the best Mexican I've ever had, but it hit the spot!

Amazing service, & food. Was seated quickly on a Saturday. Our service was outstanding. You won't regret stopping by. Authentic salsa and great seasoned food.

Inexpensive and yummy. Not really "authentic", but I don't mind that. You get giant portions for tiny prices! I can't say that I have a favorite on the menu...maybe something with cheese and meat and a tortilla..but isn't that all mexican food? Point of the story: The queso is good and the food is pretty standard. The reason for the 4 stars is *drum roll please* the MARGARITAS! They have all kinds of flavors (mango, strawberry, banana, etc.), and they are cheap and STRONG. Oh man, just one El Tequila marg gets my night started off right! Bottom line: The food is cheap. The margs are cheap. If you like a nice, big blended margarita then get yourself over to El Tequila pronto!

El Tequila isn't perhaps the most authentically "Mexican" place in town, but it does the general Tex-Mex theme pretty well. My wife and I come here regularly enough because we've always found the food reliably good, the prices reasonable, and the service friendly and fairly attentive. The parking lot is almost constantly busy (even in the middle of the afternoon), but we've never had trouble getting a table nor had to wait long to be served. (Maybe we just beat the crowds every time?) The tacos (Monterrey and al Carbon) have been standbys for me, but the fajitas have also always been tasty. They do make a mean margarita too, most notably their Top Shelf, which I typically go for. My wife really likes their seafood options; she was particularly pleased with the Tequila Shrimp Ceviche on the most recent visit. I've never been especially impressed by their guacamole, however. It's creamy and decent enough, but honestly my wife makes a much better version from scratch at home (and she's Japanese!). All the same, they're definitely good at what they do, even if what they do won't necessarily blow anyone away. Nice, dependable and cheap, which is sometimes exactly what you need in a restaurant.

The food here is really quite good but I know it's different than some people are expecting. If you are looking for a more tex-mex taste, Chuy's or Ted's Escondito are great. This place has the best tortillas I've ever had. Soft, slightly chewy, and fluffy. The tamales are amazing and have the best sauce in the world. The guacamole has a little too much sour cream for me but it's pretty good. The service can be spotty nowadays. I feel like my husbands food is always served 5 min or more before mine. Or I'll order the wonderful steak fajitas and then have to remind someone to bring out my tortillas. However, if you want a lot of good food for cheap this is the place. It's always packed in the evenings and the drinks are strong.

This used to be my home away from home. I adored this place from the first time I went there. I frequented there often when they weren't busy and I could sit, have a small delicious meal, strong margarita and read my book in peace, as well as bring close friends or family for a great meal. I went there one evening with my mother, one of many trips over the few years I had lived here. Many of the waiters knew me and I knew them. I had a waiter I hadn't had before and I had a slight discrepancy with the bill. More importantly I had an issue with the way it was presented to me. The waiter hands us our check and before walking away says quickly "Oh you know that we charge $2 extra each to put patron in there." This was weird and skeptical to me and caught me off guard and I asked since when that had been the policy and he said that it always had been. I kindly asked why I hadn't been informed that when we ordered and that I had ordered the same exact drinking for almost 2 years and never been charged extra. This became a matter of principal and not money. He then immediately said "well I've been working here a year and never seen you." I was appalled that he would say that. He then informed us he was getting the manager, so the manager came over and explained the bill. I told him literally the same thing I had told the waiter and he ALSO said that he had never seen me before, but also added that he "didn't believe me." He then demanded to know the names of the waiters who hadn't been charging me right, and I just told him ALL of them. It began to get childish and I demanded they charge our cards so we could leave. I have not been back even one time since then, and what a shame it is to me. I loved that place. I did however go to the South location once and it seemed acceptable.

Simply awesome start to finish Efficient crew. Excellent food. You can tell a lot about a place just by watching the employees. Do they have conversations among themselves? Do they stand around? Or do they attend to business, even going so far as to pick up debris on the floor as often as necessary, even when in full rush mode? The staff is well trained here. Absolutely not a complaint, and if you knew me, you would think I was April fooling u. But this is true. I have over 25 years in food service management, and this is without a doubt the most impressed I've been since I ran my own place. Just awesome.

Yes!!! Excellent food and service for a great price! I enjoyed everything. The fact that I got carded twice stopped me from giving 5 stars. Geesh, but I guess it could be a compliment?! I must look young?!

This was our families first time here and we were very impressed. My husband loves chimichangas and normally grades the restaurant on whether or not they can produce a decent chimichanga, his only complaint was the size overall great place to eat, we'll be back.

This place is terrible. The salsa taste like marinara sauce for Italian restaurant. I asked for sweet tea and they do not have it which is fine. After getting the un sweetened I asked for a tea spoon to stir the real sugar. The waiter looked at me like I was asking for chopsticks. All the servers were great very attentive but the food sucked. I am from Texas and this place would not have lasted at all. I ate the Carne Asada which came with rice, refried beans, guacamole, pic de gallo on a bed of lettuce. Carne Asada was burnt pass well done, beans were runny (like it was last of the batch and cook added water to it to get plate out), pico de gallo was mainly tomato with a hint of a jalapeño, one to two cilantro leaf and sliver of onion. The rice was ok. I love food and I would say maybe this is a great place to sit down for a date and have a few drinks. The scenery is pretty cool they have a fountain in the middle of the restaurant and many booths close to it. They only get one star for me because of the service. Granted I am spoiled with Mexican food because of my heritage and where I live in Dallas. Everyone is entitled to their opinion and this is mine. Thanks

The other night I called in a To-Go order of my favorite dish from El Tequila. Pollo Al Queso. I get home and instead of rice and beans, they had given me rice and salad. Puke. So I called to find out what happend to my order and he tells me, in his heavy hispanic accent "Oh, we change the menu. Next time, you tell us no salad and beans instead". I'm like, Wait. I've ordered this for 5 years and now you've changed the menu?" Why couldn't you tell me that when I ordered it?" The guy was so rude. I was frustrated, so I got off the phone and tried to finish eating. But then I started getting upset. I'm thinking, a $10 meal and they can't even offer to make it right? So, I called back. Ring ring ring. No answer. Call back again. Ring ring ring. No answer. It dawned on me that he was avoiding my call. So I blocked my number the next time I called and he answers on the second ring! (heavy accent) "Allo?". I said, "I want to speak to the manager" (he knows it's me.) He says "Hold on, I'll get him", a few seconds later, the same voice but a little louder and higher pitched comes back on the line "Allo, dees is de Manager". I pause and then say," No, you're the same guy I was just talking to". He says, "No, I am de manager" I insisted, "NO, you are the same guy who answered the phone just now." Finally he says, "oh ja, I AM de manager though!" Ayaiyai!! ARE YOU KIDDING ME? LOL This guy seriously thought he could pull a fast one on me!! I guess he thinks gringos can't tell the difference when they hear a hispanic accent!!

This place is always jammin' and yet some how they are always fast as crap with the food. Who doesn't love that? This is not really any different than any other Mexican restaurant ever. On the other hand it does have a huge menu with awesome photos! But really guys, it's a great affordable place to grab some tex mex with really great service. Definetly worth a shot just don't expect anything special.

El Tequila is a fantastic option for Mexican food! For me, the food is on par with other Mexican restaurants in the area, but what El Tequila has working for them is their service, prices, and hours. I like to eat a little later sometimes, so it's nice to know that I can go to El Tequila at 9:45pm and still get seated no problem. Their food is priced well for the quantity and quality that you get. They bring out chips and salsa almost instantly when you sit down and have usually been very quick with service. My go-to dish there is the spicy shrimp -- they can get kind of messy, because you have to peel them yourself, but boy are they good! All-in-all, El Tequila is up there with the rest of them. Too long for you? Go here if you want a casual and affordable meal to get your Mexican food fix.

Thursday evening my family and I went to this location as we had many times. The service was slow and slow to get our food. We waited over 35 min. It was hard to get refills and extra napkins. I am not impressed with food lately. I might still go for the drinks and chips but it will be awhile

If you want great Mexican food this is the place! The portions are pretty big and the price is very low. Also, great drinks for a low price. The atmosphere is great and the staff is very friendly, prompt, and helpful. If you want a great meal for low price definitely stop in! Highly recommend.

This is a spacious Mexican eatery with a menu heavy on proteins... there are many fish, steak, and pork choices. The fish "Mojillo" dish we had used a large grouper fillet. This is rare, and at $10ish a steal. It was perfectly cooked. While the Italians are cursing the use of cheese with the topping on the fish, we'll be eating it. Good stuff. : ) The steak dish I had came with chorizo on top. The steak was awesome cut up and placed in fresh corn tortillas... your own taqueria! As side notes, they will sell you a plate of grilled jalpenos, avocado, and other goodies for topping your proteins. Delicious. Finally, the salsa had a rich tomato zest to it, but it is free so I can't judge on that. That offer Tapatio and Yucateca condiments on the table. I L-O-V-E green Yucateca. Add a drizzle of that to their salsa and you are good to go.

Awesome place to eat good mexican food. The service here is excellent!!!! The food is great. The salsa for their chips is perfect!!!! The only thing about this place is that everyone in tulsa is trying to eat here:-). But there are still times you can just slip on in!!! I cant wait to keep returning to this awesome restaurant!!!!!!

This place rocks!! I have been looking for good Mexican food similar to what I used to have down south (not tex-mex which in my opinion is terrible), and this hit the spot! The restaurant was packed and for good reason. Our server was super speedy with our drinks, food, & check! The prices were very reasonable as well! This will be our home away from home Mexican stop from here on out!

Great food. Crappy location. It's on the north side of I-44 and Harvard. The road construction is awful. Not the restaruant's fault, I know. Just thought is was worth mentioning. This place was great. A lot of people assume that the service in a Mexican restaurant is going to be lacking. I am one of those people, but it really wasn't here. They have an army of servers roaming the dinning room. I never saw one stand still unless they were taking a table's order. They serve each table their own little bottle of salsa, which I thought was an interesting way to control portions. The chips and salsa were good, we also shared a queso. It was nice, hot (temp not spice), and creamy. Our entrees came out fast. I ordered off the lunch menu, a #9 I think. It had a taco, burrito, and an enchilada; all three beef. The sauce on top of the burrito was diffrent than the enchilada, but I really liked both. My sister had a similar platter, but I'm not sure what it was exactly. She also enjoyed it. Although I didn't have a drink, they had a pretty good selection of margaritas and a full bar, which by the way, looked inviting. Over all, I think I'm glad I went out of my way and into the construction to try El Tequila. From what I understand they have several locations around the Tulsa area. I'll probably be finding more of them soon,

I love this place for Mexican food not only is it cheap but it is also good. I love the tacos and pollo queso dish. I have had the enchiladas as well but the pollo queso is better. The salsa is good and plentiful there is nothing I have ordered from here that is bad. Bring your appetite.

I decided to try the food here, and I have to say I was a little surprised. Everyone seems to love it here, and I really don't understand why. My waitress was awful, and only came to check on me twice, once to take my order, and once to deliver my food. After that she only brought me my check. I had the Chimichangas, and they tasted as if the meat inside was microwaved. The beans had a weird aftertaste, like they had been sitting out for a few days, and the rice was dry and a little hard. All in all, I do not have a lot to say about this place, other than I will avoid it from now on. There are far better places to go in Tulsa, and this place just cannot hold a candle to your other options.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
