I love everything about Ted's Escondido. The tortillas are amazing. They are thick and taste fantastic. The chips are decent, and while I don't eat it, my wife lives and dies by their salsa. What is great is that,. after a meal, you can take a setup home and she will munch on that salsa for days after we eat there. The taco dinners are fantastic. My wife gets "The Best Mexican Tacos" with fajita steak and loves it. She also enjoys the quesadillas and fajita chicken nachos on occasion. I get the Tacos Al Carbon, which I love, or I will do a build you own plate because the enchiladas, tacos, and quesadillas are all good. The burritos are big and taste great too. They are VERY fast as well. Sometimes we will have a long line and be told it will be 45 minutes, but we are usually at out table at least 15 minutes sooner than they said. Then, the servers are fast and friendly. We have NEVER had a mistake with out order. Now for the bad news. We are possibly moving out of Oklahoma, and there are no Ted's where we are going. We will miss it more than any other Oklahoma restaurant.

Pleasant surroundings. Very "Mexican" including the music. Pleasant family presentation. Very reasonable prices. Guacamole is very good. Well flavored He atomic salsa is a must get. Excellent. Their regular salsa is also very good. The cheese with the chips is very tasty. The chips are this and excellent. I got the cheese chili relleno and it was wonderful. His is a very good restaurant.

I love this place and I love the service. Management at the Norman location is a class act and always very accommodating.

The best food and service! Everyone received salsa and queso and complimentary sopapillas for dessert.

Ted's are very popular Tex-Mex style family restaurants in Oklahoma. There is sometimes a wait to get in, so you might want to go a little early. The food is good and served hot. They seem to do a good job hiring wait people with some personality. The food is what I would consider kinda standard Tex-Mex, nothing really special. I have never had a bad experience with Ted's.

Very good mexican! Love the salsa, atomic, and the tortilla are so good!! I always get shredded beef tacos or taco salad and have never been disappointed. The sopapillas are light and very good! The one on western is my favorite location but this one is good too.

As many Normanites will tell you, you're either loyal to Ted's or Tara's. While the menus differ slightly (I would say Taras has more authentic options), I choose to go to Ted's when I want Tex Mex, simply because it has less of a wait. The margs are equal, prices are equal, same free chips/tortillas/queso/salsa. My go-to is the Chicken Chimi, with sour cream sauce. I like subbing the rice and beans with the creamed corn and papas (at no extra cost). Overall, good spot.

Awesome! Chips, cheese sauce, salsa. Relish, atomic salsa all set up comp Comp sopapillas after dinner Tex mex deluxe! Great service from hostess to waiter!

I went there for supper with a large group of friends in July 2011. Although the service was excellent to even exemplary, I am not as hot about the food as many of the locals are. The food was not particularly authentic for one thing. But, its quality was generally mediocre even if portion sizes were quite generous and the price moderate. The chips and salsa served complimentarily was mostly good though one of the salsas was spicy in an unpleasant, battery-acid sort of way. As for entree, I ordered some combination dinner. I recall the refried beans served on the side tasting like the canned Old El Paso-brand ones -- cheap and not authentic. The burrito was plump but not with meat or other filler but with those same refried beans. The chile relleno was soggy. Later, I found that the food did not agree with my digestion. Since I was not of drinking age at the time, I did not have any margaritas, but I understand from my friends that they are excellent. I neither recommend nor decline to recommend this establishment. If I am ever in Norman again, I would even be willing to give it a second chance given the mostly positive reviews.

Note: NORMAN LOCATION Overrated, but has a few great items. Okay, Ted's... Long was I told that this was God's gift to Mexican food. Many were those who loyally braved 2 hour lines (on a slow day). Ted's was a legend in the OKC metro for couple years before I actually tried it. Then came the experience, and many more that followed (including at least two dines at each location), and now I am a Ted's veteran. After all the hype and hysteria, what do I have to say about the place? It's okay. Don't get me wrong; Ted's has some tremendous items. Well, really just one - their tortillas. These are probably the best tortillas I've ever had, though I feel they are equally matched at Mamaveca in Norman. Most of the rest of their food is just average quality, especially their entrees, but the tortillas really are tremendously good. That said, if you go just for the "complimentary" items (which is an oxymoron in this context), it's like almost $7 by themselves! If you get an entrée, it's usually about $12-20. To me, there is just too much great competition around for some tortillas to merit that kind of price tag! Likes: Great tortillas and good food overall. Dislikes: LONG waits and high prices. Why wait an hour to be seated for Ted's 4 star food when you can be seated immediately at Chelino's/Mamaveca/Palomas/Tarahumara's/Pepe Delgado's and eat close to as good, if not better (in some cases) food? Especially considering that an entrée is about $3-5 cheaper at any of those places than the same is at Ted's! This is why, in opposition of the swarm of people who insist that there is one Ted's to rule them all, I say it's a bit overrated. Ted's serves very good Mexican, but it's way over priced and not everything it's famed to be.

Went last night with a friend. I've been many times before but the service is always great. The complimentary chips, queso, salsa, tortillas, and sopapillas make the experience. The only downside is that their entrees are expensive for a Mexican restaurant (I paid 10.99 for one taco al carbon and rice). They have lunch specials during the week but they're still kind of pricey for lunch.

Food, service and atmosphere was great. Ask for Shelby if you want great service during lunch rush. She was awesome!!!!

We were reluctant to come after a very mediocre experience at the Ted's in SW OKC, but I'm so glad we went to this one in Norman! I ordered the chimichanga with their fajita chicken and sour cream sauce and it was fabulous! It wasn't overly greasy like many usually are, and had the perfect amount of crispness- not all soft, but not over cooked. The chicken was delicious. Our server was very outgoing and friendly, and funny too. He was quick and got us everything we needed, and he got a nice tip from us. Sadly, I forgot my to-go box on the table. That was the worst part!

  • Kam S.

I remember when there was only one Ted's location on May Ave. The 75-day wait for a table made everything way more delicious and forbidden. But when they started popping up everywhere, I kinda lost interest. I'm partial to the atomic salsa, especially when it is full of large chunks of avocado (rare these days). But they do the standard Tex Mex fare pretty well and have exceptional slow marinated chicken. My wife and I like to get the fajitas to go as the sides pretty much feed us for an entire weekend. Also, no one is judging the fajita stains on my sweatpants at home. Well, maybe my dogs...

Amazing! The service is the best I have had in Oklahoma in a really long time. The food is good, the atmosphere is fun. I definitely recommend Teds!

  • Holly B.

This Ted's was the larger than the May or Edmond locations. However, the food was not as consistent as the May location. The flour tortillas were larger than the small taco size my Boyfriend and I were expecting. They almost forgot my corn tortillas. The chicken fajita meat for the crispy taco I had with my meal was not cut like it was freshly haven been made for me. The meat was larger and not what I was expecting fajita meat to be; such as thinly cut and not consistent in the cut.

Ted's is Ted's. Great Mexican that is worth the wait. But my theory is that because you wait so long, you're extra hungry and therefore extra satisfied. A "short" wait here is 30 minutes, and the whole time I'm thinking about the unlimited chips, salsa, queso, and tortillas I'm about to stuff myself with, before I stuff myself with my entree, and then manage to stuff down a sopapilla. By the end of the night I weight 400 pounds and love it. So basically don't eat here if you are on a diet, it wont be fun. I had the chicken quesadillas, they were good but a little greasy which turned them soggy. Service was great, kept our drinks filled as well as our salsa dishes! I feel like this place is very affordably priced, considering how much food you get! I won't wait 30-45 for a meal all the time, but every now and then it's worth it!

The Norman teds location is great. Great service and food. Definitely try the papas and the creme corn. Don't leave with out having a sopapilla and honey.

  • Jeremy F.

Ted's. It's my favorite restaurant to barely touch my main course at. That's because I tend to fill up on the excellent chips, salsa, tortillas, and queso that come before the rest of the meal and will be refilled endlessly (if there's a limit I haven't reached it, and I've tried.) The tortillas are especially awesome. You can see them being made fresh in a window from your table and they arrive piping hot at the table. My true gringo nature, if there was ever a doubt, is revealed when I take that first tortilla and slather it in butter. So good. The salsa is tomato-centric and has nice flavor without much heat. There is an atomic salsa available by request. I like to mix it into my queso for a nice added kick. The main dishes are also excellent example of Tex-Mex fare. The fajitas have a tasty marinade and give you another excuse to eat more tortillas. The Mexican flag gives you a nice selection of different sauces and flavors. Plus, after the accouterment, I usually end up taking at least half of my entree, if not the entire thing, home. Getting an extra meal out of an order really makes Ted's into an excellent value. The sopaipilla at the end of the meal is a cinnamon-sugared fried honey-holder made of joy. I used to go to Ted's with sorority girls regularly and they would occasionally turn down this included delight. I'm amazed that the rage and contempt I directed towards them on these occasions didn't cause them to combust on the spot. Don't turn down the sopaipilla. The service at Ted's is great. The margaritas are quite good. Enjoy.

My husband and I were lucky enough to have this place recommended to us by a friendly stranger. Wow she did not lead us astray! From the not too sweet margaritas to the complementary queso, salsas, fresh hot tortillas, and sopapillas this place is AMAAAZING!!!! Our tacos and tamales were top notch. The service at both the bar and table was friendly and efficient. We will certainly make this our Norman, OK tradition. If you see folks waiting to be seated, don't worry it moves fast and it's well worth a few mins of your time.

Excellent service and food! Dined here on a busy Saturday night with a large party of 9 people. Everything was awesome! Stellar service, David was our waiter and stayed on top of everything! Excellent food, Decent price! We will definitely be back! Way to set the bar high Teds!

Pretty solid Mexican restaurant. Passing through Norman, OK and decided to stop for some Mexican food. My expectations were not set high as Mexican food and Norman, OK don't seem to go hand-in-hand. Boy was I wrong! Had the tamales which were very good. One chicken and one beef as these were the options. I was bummed that no pork tamale was offered but these two were still very tasty. The chips before the meal came with two salsas, cheese, and a Mexican pickled carrot/jalapeño mix. The tortillas are freshly made in the restaurant. To end the meal, they have a free sopapilla. Nice touch. The staff is super friendly and the atmosphere is way casual. The bar only serves a limited menu (nachos and quesadillas) so I ate in the actual restaurant. Will definitely return to this place.

Chips, queso, fresh tortillas and salsa served immediately when we sat down! Great tasting tex-Mex and the service was excellent. Oh.. And complimentary sopapillas for dessert! The sopapillas are Ah-mazing! They are thick and covered in cinnamon and sugary goodness.

  • Mike M.

Decent Mexican food considering it's in OKC...in any city that has a decent TexMex selection, this would be near the bottom. People in OKC confuse free powdered queso and tortillas as being "the best" Mexican food. You can't say "world's best" and "cheese sauce" on the same menu. Cheese Sauce...really?!?! It's queso....cheese sauce can be found in the chip isle...not at a respectable TexMex restaurant. Overall, not impressed at all...i didn't enjoy the "fajitas" or canned beer. I'm not sure what makes this place call itself TexMex....it's more like the OK version of a Mexican Lubys....and I apologize to Lubys for that statement. The free "cheese sauce" and tortillas are the only things this place has going.

  • Shelby S.

Ted's is and always will be one of my favorite chain Mexican restaurants in the city. The FREE queso is great! Not watery like most of the free queso I have had. My usual is the chicken enchilada with sour cream sauce and I have never been disappointed. Not even once!

I really love Ted's for tex-mex. Their service is stellar and no matter how busy they are, I've never felt rushed by any of the wait staff. I really like their salsa more than any of the other Tex-mex Mexican food places in town. I prefer a mild salsa and everywhere else is too hot for me. They do have a hotter salsa they'll bring if you prefer hot. I think they call it Atomic. I also love their choices of sides besides rice and beans. I always get the cream corn and pappas (mashed potatoes). I also love that the wait staff repeats what you've ordered and describes how it's prepared and asks if that is ok. Your drink glass is never empty and salsa and queso cups frequently replenished. The fresh (flour) tortillas are freshly made and are outstanding. We always take half our meal home to save room for complimentary sopapillas (sp?). I'm always asked if I want a drink to go too. I'm fond of the chicken fajita enchiladas and my husband the same but steak. I've had other dishes and they have all been delicious.

It's rare that we can satisfy 6 different people with 6 different tastes. We succeeded at Ted's this evening. We were visiting Norman for the evening and picked Ted after weighing a number of factors (cost, location, closing time, menu, dietary restrictions). Besides the other reviews on Yelp the first indication we were in for a treat was the number of people waiting outside the restaurant for a table. We waited more than 30 minutes to get a table. I'm pleased to report that it was well worth the wait. Once inside, Ted's excellent wait staff kicked into gear. We had chips, tortillas, salsa and queso in no time. The chips were freshly made and the salsa and queso were very tasty. The food arrived exceptionally fast. The two vegetarians in the group enjoyed the spinach enchilada dinner (muy deliciosa). My wife enjoyed her chicken taco salad (they forgot to hold the cheese, but no big deal as she was able to pick it out). My daughter heartily enjoyed her beef burrito dinner. And my eight year old enjoyed her chicken strips from the kids menu (que lastima comer pollo asi en una restaurante mexicana, but what are you going to do??). I tried the frozen lemonade with vodka and lime. Very delicious and the bartender was generous with the Skyy vodka. The enormous chalise that it came in helped compensate for the nearly $7 price tag. My wife and I comfortably shared during the meal. The wait staff was very attentive. Ted's was very busy this evening, but you couldn't tell from the attention and promptness of all of the staff. The complimentary sopapillas at the meal was a perfect way to end it all. A very satisfying way to end the evening. Highly recommended and I would go again if I get the chance.

I never would have thought that I would fall in love with Mexican food in Oklahoma City. This place impressed me from jump by bringing a salsa and queso dip for each person at the table. The portions were good and the food was hot and portions generous. They didn't have all the traditional offerings, but next time I am in town, I will be sure to return.

One of my favorite Mexican restaurants-EVER! And I'm from Texas, which says a lot! Teds is authentic, a bit tex- mex, but a whole lot delicious. You always get free queso, marinated veggies, chips & salsa, and tortillas as soon as you sit down. Then comes the hard part; deciding what to eat! Everything is hands down delicious. If you're ever in the area I strongly suggest to try it out

  • Heather G.

Best Tex-mex in Norman by far! :) Try the steamed beans and creamed corn instead of rice and refried beans, you won't regret it!

  • R K.

I miss Tex-Mex! The food is so phenomenal and service so fabulous that I can ignore the fact that it is oversized and on it's way to turning into a chain. Take the lard out of the flour tortillas and move this place to Chicago, and I will love everything about Ted's.

    (4)
  • Gina C.

amazing! Get a Modelo Especial with salt and lime. Delish! My go to dish is the shredded beef chimichanga with queso on top. You must try the atomic salsa if you like heat.

I come here every year with my family when I come home for the holidays. This place is just fantastic! Usually we have a 30 minute wait but there's around 8 of us but so worth it. The freebies you get here are just amazing. You get the normal chips and salsa which are great but ypu also get other salsas, pico de gallo, cheese sauce, and some spicy veggies. But by far the best freebie is the homemade tortillas!!!!!!! You have to ask them for them if they don't offer. Take those flour tortillas and dip them in the cheese sauce or whatever. They are soooooopo goooooood!!!! BEWARE!!! you will be so full before your main course comes out so I highly recommend you get a main course and share it . I usually get the Escondido special which includes a taco , 2 enchiladas, and a tamale. All excellent! Finish off with a sopapia and you can roll yourself home.

    (5)
  • Chris P.

love the salsa's that come out up front. Then the Ted's Favorite Dillas have a flavor that just can't be outdone. Complimentary Sopapia's, Tortilla's, and Queso make the restaurant one of the best in Norman.

WoW how the mighty have fallen. 10 - 12 years ago Ted's was the place to go. Well worth a 30 minute wait to get some great food. Now I think they should give the food away if you have to wait over 5 minutes. Ted's quality has went down down down while the prices go up up up. This time I had my old stand by the Chimichanga. Not what I remember. This food is mediocre at best. I would say save your cash and find something better.

Everytime I travel to the OKC area I have to visit Teds. The best Mexican tacos are amazing. I have a food-gasm with every bite. The chips, salsa and cheese dip are amazing. The home made tortilla's are made fresh daily. You get a lot of food for a great price. Whether you dine in or take out you still get the same amount of food! I love this place!

  • Heather B.

So far, this is our "go-to" tex-mex place. The food is delicious and service is fast! Their tortillas are made fresh each day. They cater to wimps and die-hards in the spice arenas. Love their guacamole...and their light, fluffy sopapias (sp?)...mmmm... I would be happy to eat their 'set-up' with relish and warm tortillas but their chicken and steak dishes are good too. Their 'queso' is a little wanting but I love their salsa very fresh and not too spicy (good for wimps). They do have spicier salsa that you can request - I've seen it bring tears to my dad's eyes...and he's not a wimp. Good beer, good margaritas. Be prepared to wait if you go at a popular time!

  • Justin S.

Tex-Mex food is above average, but not mind blowing. The reason you come to Ted's is the giant portions and never ending complimentary sides. Try the Atomic salsa and excellent tortillas made fresh on site. Service is always excellent as well, they pride themselves on quick service and meal arrival. The downside is there is always a wait, up to an hour on weekends, and it's a bit pricier than the Tex-Mex on the East Side.

While visiting Norman for a graduation, we took our party of roughly 15 to Ted's. We waited approximately 25 minutes which was understandable given the size of our group and how busy the place was. After we were seated, several servers brought us queso---or what they refered to as "cheese dip," two different types of "complimentary" salsa, and "complimentary chips." Oh and "complimentary tortillas" I don't know if they want their servers to keep reminding the customer that the chips and salsa are free/"complimentary" but it sure made an impression on me. Especially as I was glancing over the menu and noticed that if a person was to come in and "enjoy the complimentary items" without ordering a meal for themselves, that person would be charged $6.99. Part of me wants to understand this reasoning, but the other part wants to call it a rip off. Charging someone nearly what a meal costs for chips/queso/sopapillas seems a little over the top. Come on now. I ordered the "lite" order of beef tacos, which means one. $8.99 for one taco with rice and beans seemed a little steep. I suppose part of this comes from covering the costs of all of those complimentary items. If this place would just charge for queso and sopapillas instead of trying to cover the costs in other ways it would have earned more stars...It would serve Ted's well to focus on the food that people actually order instead of freebies. Still the beef fajita meat in the taco was yummy, despite being lukewarm. They also make fresh tortillas, a big plus. Oh and there are "complimentary sopapillas" at the end of the meal. EAT UP because they're free. Kind of.

I have been coming to Teds for the past 20 years. I have since moved out of town but go when I visit family. I obviously love their food since I still come back. I will say though that as they have grown and expanded, their service has gone downhill and their cost have gone up. They do not allow sharing of plates and the average cost for a meal is $15. Alfredos and Chelinos are close in menu options, cheaper and just as good.

  • Kelly K.

A 5 star experience at Ted's. As always, we started with warm, thin and crispy tortilla chips and melty cheese sauce, 3 kinds of salsa, pickled veggies and guacamole. YUM! The shredded chicken tamale was deliciously flavorful, I like it with the red sauce. The service was super and our waiter brought extra hot, fluffy, cinnamon and sugar sopapias on request and boxed them up for us to go. BTW, try the nitro habanero salsa for a "Hurts so good" experience. We will be back very soon!

Being from Atlanta and not having too many Tex-Mex restaurants too choose from, I was excited to have some good Tex-Mex while visiting my little sister. Sadly, my dining experience at Ted's did not fulfill. What Ted's did fulfill, however, was my monthly salt intake. I ordered the "Special Mexican Dinner" which featured a chicken enchilada, chicken (or beef) tamale, cheese enchilada and beans & rice. The chicken enchilada and tamale came topped with a sour cream sauce, which I substituted for "green" sauce. The cheese enchilada came topped with "red" sauce. My sister ordered an appetizer of cheese dip, grilled onions & jalapeño peppers, and tortillas, all of which, with complimentary salsa, were good. Nothing stellar, but good. Our food arrived very fast- almost too fast. I started with the rice and beans which had no discernible flavor. They were not bad. Not particularly bland, but hardly flavorful. Next, I tried some of the chicken enchilada. "Brine!", was the first thing which came to mind. I tried a second bite just to be sure. Again, briny. I tried the tamale... same thing. I isolated the saltiness to the "green" sauce; the enchilada and tamale by themselves were okay. I ate most of the chicken enchilada and tamale, tempering the salt with the nondescript beans and rice. Last, the cheese enchilada topped with "red" sauce. Once again: salt! Arg! One bite of this enchilada, and I was done. Will I dine again at Ted's? If I have a choice: no. However, I only come to Oklahoma to visit family... hopefully none of them so dislike me as to feel the need to ever again cause my palate such suffering.

Meh. The quality and prices are inversely proportional. As the quality goes down, the prices go up. We used to go there at least twice a month, but we noticed the prices creeping up. We used to get out of there in the mid $30s, but the last few times we went it creeped up to mid $50s. The drink prices are going up to. Almost $7 for a beer. The service is outstanding though. That has never been an issue. Chips and salsa are pretty good, as are the sopapillas.

  • David L.

I used to love Ted's but prices have gone up and the food quality has really declined. I would hope that they would read some of their reviews and make the changes needed to get back to top of their game. I agree with the other reviews there is to much competition for them have dropped their quality and increased their prices. Sorry Ted's you were my favorite.

Not as good as it use to be. Ordered and food was out in 2 minutes. We never got tortillas we had ask for. This place is leaning towards fast food, they try to get you in and out as soon as possible. Chips were stale

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
