Ray’s BBQ Menu

My fave at Ray's is the sandwich and side meal. I love the pulled pork or the brisket sandwich, and fried okra or beans. Smoky, savory, salty, juicy, and sweet. So good! Sauce bottles are provided to you to smother your meats at your own discretion. I recommend dousing a half and half concoction of the sweet and the spicy. Your cup will runneth over. Ray's was my go-to bbq joint while a student at OU, supplemented by many a student coupon deal (thank you Ray's!). The staff are seriously the friendliest folks, always there to greet you with a smile. I've also sampled the ribs, which were very good, but I always go back to my bbq sammies.

Another middle of the road bbq spot in Oklahoma. I will say I am pretty tough when it comes to bbq. The brisket here is average at best. No bark really to speak of. Small smoke ring. Not enough smoky taste. I think this is another one of those place that could benefit by not serving brisket. As it is hard to get right. If I were going to get brisket in Norman I would just go around the corner to the chain restaurant. Not that the brisket is bad, it's just plain or ordinary. As well asked for half lean and half most brisket, if you can tell by my pics there is no moist to be found. Boo....guess you should train people to know the difference. The ribs are a step up from the brisket. Still not the best I have had in the area but not bad. They pulled from the bone and tasted good. Nice Smokey flavor though I though it did lack seasoning. Both meats benefits from the sauce. Which in most pitmasters book is not a compliment. The sides here were nothing specail. The baked beans were made from ranch style beans which is different and a nice little suprise. Overall the place is middle of the road. I can see how some might give it a 4th star. Just not sure where any 5 stars come from. They must have never stepped outside of Oklahoma for bbq.

Hey, I was going to add a photo but once the food came, I'm not sure what happened. What I can share is that there is some kind of phenomenon where you order food, the food comes, and then there's no food. I had the brisket, mac and cheese, and collard greens. Brisket was moist but for fun I added the BBQ sauce. I'm actually trying to find a full bottle to slip in my purse for hard times. (Just kidding) If you're in Oklahoma and you're hungry please do yourself a favor go to Ray's BBQ.

A fantastic BBQ joint, with the most tender brisket and wonderful sauce.

In my opinion, the second best BBQ in Norman food-wise (first would go to Billy Sims BBQ), BUT, the staff here is fantastic, very friendly, and the owner is usually there working and greeting guests. I would highly recommend this restaurant, ALL things considered, the best BBQ place in Norman.

On my continuing quest for the perfect BBQ, I ordered the three meat special, green beens and fried okra. The ribs were baked to perfection, the pork was juicy, the brisket had a great combination of moistness and char. The green beans were worth a second helping. Walking into Ray's, I was bathed in sweet hickory smoke and once inside confronted with kitsch on the walls, plastic cutlery and frayed carpet. Hickory smoked meats can quickly become bitter, but my only complaint was just the opposite. Though perfectly cooked, the meats were tasteless until the anonymous BBQ sauce was generously applied from ubiquitous squirt bottles. Oh, did I mention no beer?

I love this place for lunch! Go early, or go late. Between 12:15pm and 1:00pm, it's hard to find a seat, and it's so loud you cannot talk. Any other lunch time the noise level is loud, but not too bad. At off-times it's really quiet. Their ribs are great, brisket is lean and tender, smoked turkey is a little salty, but good, and the sausage is really flavorful and moist. The potato salad is the best I've ever had (sorry, Mom!), green beans are they way my grandmother made them on the farm with a little bacon grease and onions (YUM!), french fries are fresh, baked beans are sweet but spicy, and the Texas toast is not over buttered. The brisket and turkey sandwiches are also really good. I think that's all I've tried. They have a mild BBQ sauce that's alright, and a hot one that's several steps hotter than the mild. Prices are low. There is a lunch combo (6oz meat, 2 sides, toast, drink) for around $8, I think. Dinner plates run about $10 if I recall. Service is really fast, no matter how busy it is. The atmosphere is interesting, with lots of old Norman stuff around, and old pictures of BBQ stands and the like. I'd say it's your typical hole-in-the-wall BBQ joint, but a little cleaner. They cater at my work a lot, and are top notch. Always friendly, helpful, and keep the food bins (buffet style) full. The cake they serve for catering is really delicious, the lemon is addictive and a perfect end to a spicy and filling meal.

Ray's lives up to the hype. Me and some buddies ate at Ray's on a Wednesday night. It was crowded, nearly full. But, they get dinners out quickly, so don't be deterred if it's crowded. I had the 3 meat combo. You get your choice of 3 meats, 2 sides, a piece of toast, and it's all only $13.99. I had pulled pork, a hot link, and ribs for my meats. For the sides, I had fried okra and mac n cheese. I would order all of the meats again. The hot link was the worst, but I still liked it. I'd say the pulled pork was the best. Juicy and flavorful, and you get quite a serving. The ribs are tender and smoked well. There is a nice pink smoke ring, an excellent rub, and they are very tender. They pull away from the bone easily. You only get 2 with the combo meal, but they are good size. The hot link is decently hot, but it's not crazy spicy. It's juicy and diagonally sliced. It's pretty basic, but it's still a good hot link. The sides were excellent as well. The okra is deep fried, but the breading wasn't too thick. You get a large serving with the meal. The mac n cheese was fantastic. It's baked, and I got a lot of the cheesy, crusty top. I don't know if every order gets as much as I got, I'll be getting it a lot. The hot sauce actually has a little bit of heat and great flavor. The employees were very friendly, and were constantly coming around to bus tables. I haven't tried every BBQ place in Norman, but so far, Ray's is easily the best.

I'm a BBQ purist and despite what you might read from others, this is the closest to the real think to be found in Norman. You can tell it's the real thing because you will leave smelling like an oak chimney. And that's a good thing. The ribs are tender and moist, the pulled pork is smoky and lean, and the brisket is fork-tender. I enjoy the sweet sauce over the hot, but kick it up if you like it hot. This is Oklahoma BBQ the way it's supposed to taste. Service always has a smile, and you might expect a wait. This place is popular and well worth it.

My husband, one year old and I ate here tonight. The food was well smoked but not hot hot (I think that might be a New Orleans specialty) ---which is good for people you can't take the heat. My husband got the three choice platter with brisket, hot links and ribs. He enjoyed everything. I had the smoked turkey sandwich and it was very good. It doesn't come with anything else on it as you have to pay for additional options, but the price was affordable. The sides were really good---especially the collard greens. All in all, this is a tasty place with affordable prices. It tends to get crowded with locals around dinner time so don't wait.

Honestly I think this is the best bbq place in town and I won't go anywhere else (I have tried other places). I think I have tried everything on their menu and I haven't eaten anything I didn't think was great. The staff is friendly, they greet and chat with you like you're old friends. When the owner is in he walks around and chats with the people eating and makes sure you like your meal. Overall great food, great service, best bbq in town!

Meat was great. Price is good and the service was acceptable. The sauce was a little sweet for my taste, but I enjoyed it.

Love this place. The food is amazing and the staff is so friendly. My go to meal is the pulled pork sandwich with baked beans. The spuds are great as well.

Solid Value; Great ribs! Don't underestimate this unassuming place...once you pull into the parking lot, wafts of yummy BBQ float by drawing you in! The lunch menu is short, but not the flavor and portions. It was the ribs that got me, along with the cole slaw...done just right - nothing fancy, but delicious and at a great price!

  • L K.

Got there just in time for the lunch special which ends at 2 pm. Sliced brisket sandwich was fantastic, not a bit of fat, and very tender. The sandwich, 1 side and a drink were about $7.50. Fried okra was a little crunchy, but fresh and wonderful. Variety of sauces, some very spicy! Highly recommended.

Better than vans pig stand. Better than Billy Sims. Not over priced and the food comes to you hot. Nothing worse than cold BBQ. You won't get cold BBQ here. Make sure you order onions and pickles on the smokehouse burger. And make sure you request a drink too because they don't ask you if you want one...it wasn't super busy, but we got there before the dinner rush started.

I've been traveling between Texas and Oklahoma for a little over a week, and this is one of the best places I've eaten at so far. I ordered their lunch special of 3-piece ribs, fries, and a drink at a reasonable price of 8.29+tax&tip. These were THE BEST FRIES I've ever eaten!!! Freshly fried, light crispy outside with a soft fluffy center. The ribs honestly looked a little dry, but they were actually very tender. Their housemade BBQ sauce is delicious. Five stars!!

I finally got a chance to come here and was introduced with the Two Meat Combo with brisket and smoked turkey and a side of mac and cheese. Holy cow. The brisket was tender as could be and the smoked turkey was a thick slice of smokey goodness. There was a perfect amount of mac and cheese, buttery and cheesy to the last bite. You have your choices of BBQ sauce, mild and hot. The mild has a sweetness to it, while the hot gives you a little peppery kick that even the most spice-sensitive can enjoy. Round that meal out with slices of toast and fountain drinks or tea and you will leave satisfied. There are plenty of places to sit, it's nice and clean and pictures of patrons past line the walls for you to enjoy. Prices are moderate but well worth it - you are definitely not overpaying here. I have been to some ma-and-pa, as well as some chain BBQ places since I have moved here and none have had the selection, quality and service of Ray's. Highly recommend for the greenest to the most finicky BBQ connoisseur.

I was raised on North Carolina barbecue, been to Dreamland BBQ Tuscaloosa Alabama, Rendezvous BBQ in Memphis, Tennessee and eaten brisket all over Texas, and anyone who rated Ray's BBQ with five stars ain't never eaten at any of those barbecue joints! It's not that Ray's is bad (except for that glorified hot dog they call sausage), it's just average.

Decent bbq joint. Came here with the family to eat lunch. The place was clean, bathrooms were clean, and the ordering process was smooth. My wife ordered the smoked sausage with mac & cheese and fried okra. I had the bbq pulled chicken and fries. My kid had my wife's mac & cheese, but didn't care for it. I tried it and I wasn't a fan, either. The smoked sausage was good. Nice flavor. I would have enjoyed it a bit spicier, but my wife liked it. The pulled chicken was good, although not spectacular. The bbq sauce was good. More of a KC style to me, which I prefer. Again, I could have handled more kick on it. Wish I could give 3.5 stars, but I'm giving 4 because it was better than a 3.

The bbq is really good, maybe the best I've ever had. The building is old and nothing special but it is a family owned business with great food and great customer service.

This was one of the most tasteless briskets I have ever had along with the chicken. I'm not sure they even smoke this stuff. The lady at the counter was friendly and very exciting and service was great. The food was just terrible . I will add the macaroni and cheese and collard greens were very good. I guess I should've just got the sides instead of the meat.

When Rays first opened up I visited very often and really enjoyed it. I use to go to Vans Pig Stand but that's on the other side of town for me. I'm a big brisket person and for the most part that's what I usually eat. After awhile I noticed that the slices of the brisket were getting thinner and thinner and that usually means either the brisket was a cheap cut to where it wasn't tender or it was leftovers. After a few more visits the meat was still the same and do therefore I stopped going there. There are a few other things that they were still doing right and that was the Mac n Cheese and the Hot BBQ sauce which taste like it got a high amount of Black Pepper in it which is fine with me. One thing you should be careful on is the fried okra. After they fry the okra they'll put it in the styrofoam container right from the fryer, but because it's still hot you'll notice that the heat will melt thru the bottom of the container. I don't know about you but I'm not a fan of eating styrofoam okra. Not sure if they changed this or not, haven't been back there in awhile. I went back to Vans where it's always tender and the slices are nice and thick like they should be.

Owned by Darrell Ray, former Sooner and pro football player, great guy but most importantly, he knows how to do BBQ...the ribs are fantastic and Mrs. G tells me the brisket is the best she ever had. Not a fancy joint...converted Pizza Hut but if you're looking for good "Q", friendly personal service....this is the place!

Cute place with great OU spirit! I loved all of the signs throughout the place. I got the 2 meat dinner - pork & turkey - with green beans and corn on the cob. The whole plate was great and came with a piece of bread. If I wasn't so familiar with the best smoked turkey from Hutchins BBQ in McKinney, TX, this would be good; but sadly, I wasn't impressed. The pork was very good and I liked the BBQ sauce a lot! Green beans might've been the best thing of all, though! I hear the fried okra is great, I wish I would've tried it. Definitely get the brisket if you go. My dad had it & loved it! Awesome hole in the wall! Definitely worth the stop & it was very quick service!

I have been to Ray's perhaps 100 times over last 6 years or so. It is my favorite lunch destination and home of Oklahoma's best BBQ. It is a great example of a local family business that does things right. The tolerable negatives include: Pepsi products only, the decor, noise, and inconsistent furniture. The positives are the things that matter: owners, employees, and the excellent food.

Great BBQ joint!! Came here on a friend's recommendation and I am glad I did. I got the small pulled pork dinner with potato salad and smokehouse beans. The salad is mayo and mustard based and very good. The beans are outstanding! The pork is extremely tender and their sauce is sweet and a little spicy. They throw in BBQ bread to make it a great dinner!! Highly recommended.

When I walked in at 12:30 pm Friday, this place was packed and usually this was a good sign. I went with the three meat dinner: double ribs and brisket. Unfortunately, the ribs were way too dry and lack of flavor. They were even non comparable to the ones I got from Couch restaurants (OU dining court). The beef brisket was cooked okay but again it was tasteless.Yes their BBQ sauce was not bad but I believe good BBQ meat should stand on its own and there is no need for extra sauce. The two sides: beans and collard green were just fine, nothing fancy. Overall this was an overrated place for me. Unless I could find a better BBQ place nearby, I would stick to Couch restaurants which are closer.

Visited an old friend who moved to Norman with his family. He recommended this place as we were a group of six & it was a one night stay there to get a taste of Oklahoma BBQ as we were driving through there & gone the next day. He ordered a huge feast for many that was on the menu for $54.99 that included ribs, brisket, pulled pork, fried okra, mac & cheese, bread, etc. Ended up with him taking home leftovers as it was a FEAST of too much for us to finish. Very tasty food. Baby Back ribs stood out the most. Regular & HOT spicy BBQ sauces were hitting the mark. Deserves FOUR STARS for being great food at a great value. Lucky for him he lives close & gets to go back many times as Oklahoma is a far reach for me.

Their pulled pork is fantastic!! Fun local family owned place with a great buzz. There was a long line when we went in and parking was crowded, but it was a good meal for a great price.

The reviews did not disappoint. First time coming here, and I will definitely be back! From CA to OK, i have never tasted meat that was so tender...their slogan is perfect and on point! "ribs so tender you dont need teeth!" I got the BBQ sliced brisket sandwich, and it was BOMB.COM Drenched in the best BBQ sauce too, life was good! Now im back in CA wishing there was a Ray's here :( DONT PASS BY THIS PLACE WITHOUT TRYING IT OUT! GO GO GO!

Went here because I was in the area and BBQ sounded really good. Being from Texas, I have very high standards for BBQ and let me say, this place was pretty good. First off, the meat is pretty good. I tried chopped brisket, pulled pork, and sausage. Sausage was the same as every other BBQ restaurant although someone I was with said the hot links sausage had a good kick. The pork and brisket weren't dry which is something I'm big on. The sauce was amazing. It's not really a vinegary taste but instead is a bit sweet at the start but has a slight bit of zing to the end. They also have a hot BBQ sauce which has a bit more spice. The bread they serve with meals is great too. It's like the bread you get at Raising Canes (sesame seed bread with a little bit of butter and toasted). I almost like having this bread as much as they slices of white bread they give you at most other BBQ joints. I just wished they gave you more of the bread instead of just one piece! The fruit medley is a tropical canned fruit mixture. Am told that the collared greens were really good. Got mixed reviews of the homemade Mac n cheese. All around very impressed. Will go back if I'm ever in the area!

Everything you could want in BBQ! I don't come home as much as I want to. But when I do, Ray's is on the top of my list. They always have friendly, efficient, and considerate staff. It's great to have new family memories in a building that we have always had memories in (back when it was Pizza Hut.) I always get the pulled pork sandwich with fried okra, and I lather that BBQ sauce on, because it is one of the best sauces out there. I only wish that there were more BBQ options out there like this one. Great for lunch with friends.

Went here last night, and it was awesome! We had amazing customer service, and the meal was perfect! Their ribs literally fall of the bone. The Mac and cheese and collard greens were great also. My sister got the smokehouse beans and I usually hate baked beans, but they were incredible! For sure recommend!

  • Sonia S.

I really liked, I mean loved the BBQ ribs and my hubby said that the sides (macaroni and cheese and cole slaw) were great also. I had 6 ribs to his 4 although we didn't quite understand what we were going to receive. I was accustomed to ordering ribs by the rack, like 1/2 rack or a full rack so the by the number of bone concept was new to me. I could not finish my ribs but I was happy trying to stuff my face. The sauce for the ribs was delicious, absolutely delicious although after I started eating, I wished I had gotten a lot more of it than I received. Overall the food was delicious but we only sampled the ribs. If I had found this place earlier, I would have sampled all their offerings.

:( Golly, I think I ordered the wrong thing. I wasn't hungry enough to eat a whole platter so stupid me ordered a salad with pulled pork. The staff was SUPER! My meal was not. Lettuce came straight outta the bag and the ranch was, ugh... Not fantastic at all. The menu was just too overwhelming for me, but the turkey did catch my eye. Man, I should have gone with my gutt feeling because I was sorely disappointed with my choice. Will update my review later when I try someone more substantial

This is the best BBQ in the Norman-Moore area. The ribs really do fall off the bone they're so tender.

This is a great little BBQ spot! The brisket and chopped pork are some if the best I've had. Try the HOT bbq sauce for a little kick.

Ray's is the best BBQ in Norman (and there are several really good options so that means it's good). I love the ribs, pulled pork, and hot links. My wife likes the chopped brisket. Portions are very good and all of the side items are good too. Don't forget to get a piece of cake for dessert too!!

  • Kevin B.

5 stars for my favorite BBQ spot in Norman. Great family atmosphere and open on Sundays. Always enjoy a Sunday lunch during football season. My staple order is the "Ray's the Roof" (brisket + hotlink sandwich) with a side of okra. Wish the okra portion was larger, but if I'm not satisfied I'll wash everything down with a large piece of chocolate cake.

Got there are 6:15 and hardly anyone there so I was suspicious. When we left at 6:50 it was almost packed. Had ribs and brisket, wife had turkey and they were all great tasting. Mac and Cheese was outstanding as was collard greens (if you like those). My only complaint is the same with a lot of BBQ places. For the price would have liked a little bigger helping. $12 for three short ribs and about 6 thin slices of brisket. Great food, but give me more for my money pleased.

I've had so many BBQ places in Oklahoma and Texas and every time I go to Oklahoma I HAVE to stop here and get my fix of Ray's. My whole family agrees that is the best BBQ in town. The service is so personal that Darrell knows who we are when we walk through the doors!

Easily my favorite BBQ joint! Love the "Ray's the Roof" sandwich (hot link and brisket) and their smokehouse beans are the best beans in town. Good meat, good sauce, love it.
