Rarely do we go out and everyone is disappointed with their meal. Something has changed. Not very good anymore. Services were good.

Had the pollo verde and it was very good, hot and fresh. Love that you can customize your plate.

There can only be two reasons this place is getting more than two stars in any review: either the residents of Oklahoma have no idea what real "made from scratch" Mexican food tastes like, or the management is having their extended family flood the pool. My experience at La Luna Cantina should have been amazing. It was, after all, for my best friend's rehearsal dinner. I expected the venue of choice by her future in laws to have great atmosphere, great service and most importantly, great food. La Luna failed miserable in almost all categories. Finding the restaurant was tricky, even for Google Maps. Down an access road, with no shoulder, I seriously felt as though we were going to someone's farm. We joked that dinner would be whichever cow bit the busboy the night before. And we probably weren't too far off since I can't imagine how any supplies get in and out of such a remote area. Thank goodness the building was well lit and brightly colored or we might have missed it. We were the first of the party to arrive, and the hostess seemed to be dumbfounded when I gave the name of the happy couple appended with "Rehearsal Dinner". Her reply was "Is that the party of 30?" Granted, I had no idea how many were attending, but I figured it might be her job to know. Strike one. Once seated, we were presented with chips, salsa and queso dip. We ordered two Patron margaritas with lime juice and were told that was impossible because they were "pre-made". (Apparently, this is a theme in this joint.). The mix used tasted like the cheapest mix they could find, with that fake lemon-lime aftertaste. Totally ruining the point of upgrading to a margarita with Patron. Needless to say, we only had one drink a piece. We learned that the bar didn't even stock orange juice for the three year old ringbearer, even though one of the margaritas on the menu lists "a splash of orange juice". In case you didn't know, Future Lawyer also goes by Former Bar Manager so he was a bit displeased. The only members of our party who seemed to be pleased with their drinks were the ones who got fruit flavored margaritas or just soda. Call me crazy, but a good Mexican restaurant should nail a house margarita. Strike two. When the food arrived, it was a bit of a cluster. There was allowance for the fact that it was a large party and not everyone's food would arrive at the same time, but those who ordered first, got food last and some tables had only two of eight people with meals, politely waiting forever for the rest to arrive. I ordered the Steak Fajitas ($16.75), which arrived long after my plate of toppings on a skillet with no hot pad (which made me nervous sitting next to a toddler at a crowded table with not a lot of room to move it!), the steak was not medium-rare as requested, and Omar our server explained that these too are "pre-made". I also waited another 10 minutes for tortillas to begin eating my fajitas...good thing they were in an iron skillet to keep warm! Flavor was average, nothing to write home about. Future Lawyer elected for the Enchilada Dinner ($9.75), with one chicken and one beef enchilada, which came with rice and re-fried beans. The beef enchilada was so salty he actually spit his bite into his napkin and just requested another chicken enchilada to replace it. A real first, I've never seen him actually spit out food he's bitten into at a restaurant. I saw another guest send back a beef enchilada as well for the same reason. Strike three. Thank goodness we were with a great group of people who can have fun anywhere we go. Also, Omar had a good sense of humor and was well meaning, just probably could have used a bit of training on managing a large party. Overall, I'm pretty glad I do not live in Oklahoma and never have to be forced to dine here again. Prices are very inexpensive, but that's completely in line with the below average quality of the meals they are serving. Definite miss.

Visited this location after the downtown location closed. I haven't been wowed by La Luna or the staff in a very long time so I can say they met my expectations. We weren't greeted when we came in but stood there awkwardly until someone said "how many"? Our waiter was okay, not great. Forgot to bring our drinks. Good was warm, not hot, but good La Luna standard fair. If I'm in Newcastle I'll probably give it another try but I won't go out of my way to eat here. We miss you Jaime and old staff!!!

My friends finally took me to their favorite go-to Mexican restaurant. Queso had more flavor than the greasy gelatinous goo most places dish out. The Swirl is the drink to get, although a big bowl of beer with lime and salt smeared all over the rim is my preferred drink. The tilapia tacos were clean and flavorful. Though I didn't pay for dinner, I was surprised how much cash my hosts put down. I guess the swirls cost a pretty penny!

This is a great little place to get your Tex Mex fix. I loved the tortillas and chips! The queso was okay, but not my fave. I love their enchiladas and my wife really enjoys the giant taco salad. We always leave stuffed with a very small bill!! They have a neat outdoor area and plenty of televisions to watch the games on. They also have a pool table!! Too cool!

Food is average, service is fast, and staff are very polite. For the cost, I much rather eat at Ted's.

We visited La Luna on Sunday about 3 pm. The atmosphere was nice, service was good, chips cheese and salsa also good. However that's where the good ran out. I usually order a more special plate.... fajitas, chimi, or the like but this time I ordered the La Luna house plate enchilada, taco, tamale, rice and beans. The tamale shell had the traditional taste it was supposed too. The meat inside was like a over seasoned pound of hamburger left cold then steam heated upon order, not good. The taco and enchilada where bland and so covered in grated cheese the flavor may have been lost in it. I love cheese but this was a bit far even for me. The taco on a soft flour shell was mehhh, the chicken tasted like it had been strained in a broth but not stewed or cooked, it was very chunky not very shredded. The flour tortilla was store bought and warmed not fresh made. The chicken enchilada was the same. My wife's chimi was a little better "Lucky" but just wasn't up to par with the hype friends pored on this place. We both went home with queezy stomachs and not very satisfied. I take into consideration mid afternoon lunch after the church crowd, but if your a restaurant you should have your A game all the time. I ate the left overs a couple days later still not overly good and queezy all over again. I believe we will pass on La Luna the next time we want Mexican food. If your wondering normally I have a cast iron stomach and are easily satisfied with food. Ill even eat stuff that' s wrong. Oh the kids taco plate was more the over seasoned ground beef, with large pieces of bell peppers and onions, i thought that was pretty random. How large you ask? Quarter sized in the taco meat. Yeah random. The other plate was chicken strips and fries.....oh wait the fries where great!

Average mexican food found in ok. I had the special mexican dinner which was cheese enchilada which was excellent, pork tamale which was decent and a chicken enchilada which was pretty good. Cheese sauce has some kick. Salsa and chips good but the flour tortillas were awesome! Waiter tito was very good and we commented he had a pep in his step. If we are in the area again i'm sure this would be an option.

Not impressed with the Fajita Meat. It was sweet and the waiter told me the fajita meat came from a bag. Gross. Hardly authentic Mexican food. Aside from the poor quality food I did enjoy the chips and salsa and the decor. I don't think I would recommend a friend drive to Newcastle,ok to eat there. There are much better places in OKC,OK.

Tried La Luna on a Saturday afternoon. Food was tasty. We had the ocean tacos (you get get it fried, but I got the grilled tilapia), old fashioned tacos (fried), and both beef and cheese quesadillas. All were very good, particularly the tacos. Tortillas were great and salsas and queso were good as well. Food was pricey and service was a little slow for a lazy saturday afternoon but hey, it was 110 outside. Looking forward to going back with a larger appetite.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
