Pretty darn good Mexican food. Is it fancy? No. Does it taste good? Yes. The queso is thin and bland but the salsa is great. We got our drinks& the free set up very quickly...the tortillas were hot and fresh. The fajitas were fab...the flavor of both the chicken& beef was delicious. Both were slightly charred and trimmed of fat. The soapapillas were chewy and fluffy. Service was friendly, responsive& fast. The parking is kinda wonky but no problem. Would def come back again!

I've been here twice, both times with a party of 20 or more people. Their service is absolutely perfect. They make it look so easy. As for the food, it is pretty darn good. As an authentic mexican food critic, this place is right down the middle between the authentic hole in the wall you find in the hood and the over priced under achieved tex mex at Ted's. Oklahomans love their blan tex mex with sour cream sauce and oily yellow queso. This place gives you a taste of the real deal while not pulling you too far over to the dark side of authenticity. I got the carne guisada which1 was awesome. Also, if you like spicy salsa, they have a house specialty hot salsa that is hearty, spicy, and served warm.

I don't know much about Mexican food. But I know when food tastes good and stuff... And Los Vaqueros (LV) food tasted good. I mean, yeah, all of the sides tasted just like any other restaurant, but I don't know if that should count against LV. Refried beans is refried beans is refried beans. Queso is queso is queso. Rice is rice is... you get the point. What gave LV the edge over some of the other Mexican (Tex-Mex, Texican, whatever) restaurants I've been to recently was the meat. The fajita meat in particular (chicken, and beef) was seasoned/marinated so well that I may have... consumed more than I... perhaps should have consumed... in one sitting... Well, if I'm honest, certain bites of the beef were super tender and delicious, while other bites were super chewy, so it wasn't perfect by any means. But the flavor was on point. The chicken also was meaty Mexican(ish) perfection. And just the slightest touch of char that added to the yum. Yum, I tell you. So yes. Mostly average. But yay delicious marinated meat.

I love Los Vaqueros! Friendly service, good food. My only complaint (actually two)is that it's so busy and you come out of there smelling like the food.

We almost got ran off the road buy a server coming in late. Cheese sauce was cold. We got the fajitas for 2 and the sour cream and guacamole were the size of quarters. the steak was burnt. The chicken was dry and flavorless and the onions were undercooked. Our waiter came back once after spending 15 minutes talking to his waiter friends. Got charged full price after complaining and was told next time just send it back. She was not surprised. I cannot recommend this restaurant

I was between meetings and didn't have a whole lot of time and Los Vaqueros fit the bill. They were very busy because I hit the front door at right around 12:15 last Friday so the lunch crowd was in full swing. There's a fair amount of parking in back, but it's kind of tight quarters. I noticed that there are lots of big pickup trucks in Oklahoma and that made navigating that parking lot a little touchy. I imagine there are a few minor fender benders or dings when the place is packed on weekends and people have had a few drinks and try to get out of that parking lot. The staff was friendly and my lunch combo with a cheese enchilada, a beef taco, beans, and rice came out hot and fresh in about 5 minutes. I noticed the menu was mainly your standard American Mexican food, but they did have some selections that looked more authentic as well. Too bad I couldn't imbibe. A margarita or a cold Negra Modelo would have been very nice. If I was in the area again, I would definitely make a return visit.

Worst mexican food ever from there runny watery salsa to the canned queso that is left ro sit more than 20 min turns to a can of cranberry! Old thick chips never warm.. And yucky food! Go to the new one behind lugianos on 152 much better!!!

I've been going here for years. As good if Mexican food as you can get with great service. You will not be disappointed. Try the lalo, john special or wale on a platter they are all wonderful.

I was disappointed after receiving the watered down queso and flavorless salsa. I ordered the lunch order of chicken fajitas and they were below average at best. They did not come with cheese or guacamole. The onions were not caramelized and chicken was barely seasoned. There were a few peppers thrown in the mix somewhere. Overall I wouldn't recommend this to any friends and family as there are plenty of other Mexican choices in the metro.

Not the best but not the worst. Quick service, many many menu choices... They have great guiso and many dishes away from the norm of enchiladas or tacos. Set up includes tortillas, which isn't always that common without having to order them at most places. Quick service and good food.

A co-worker and I used to eat here on almost a weekly basis; now probably won't ever go back. We were among the first diners through the door for lunch on Friday, 09/20; but, all the staff seemed to be in a rush to get everything done. So much so that we didn't even have time to respond to their inquiry "is everything alright" before they were already turning on their heals and rushing away. My order was for shrimp fajitas with no bell pepper but added jalapenos. The onions were mostly burned but still edible; so, not too much of a complaint there. We wanted some of the hotter salsa but as stated before weren't provided an opportunity to ask for it due to the staff being in such a rush. Ordered some of the hotter salsa to go and was charged for it even though there wouldn't have been a charge had it been provided during our meal. In addition, the sopapillas were so tough you couldn't cut them with your fork; finally, had to pick it up with my hands and tear it apart with my teeth. Overall a VERY BAD experience at what used to be one of my favorite lunch sites.

The food was bland and it was too expensive. The only good thing was the salsa and that's not saying much. The chimichangas were so greasy, they weren't edible. Definitely not going back

I was visiting Mustang when I was invited to this restaurant. We waited a long time for our table but were served quickly. The staff was busy serving customers and I could see that they were giving great service. The restaurant is quaint and decor is blah. We were given plenty of chips, cheese and salsa. The chips were cold and not that tasty. I ordered an enchilada and chili relleno. The relleno was cold and seemed like it might have been prepared and frozen prior to cooking. My enchilada was tasty and so were the beans. The others at the table said the food was average. The restaurant seemed to be pretty busy with people in and out most of the evening. I can't say that I would go back. On a positive note, the manager went around and spoke with his customers making sure they got great service.

My husband and I used to go to this place weekly. The food was amazing with quick service. In the past 6 or so months, we have gone about 5 times. The food went from amazing to "okay". I am so disappointed. Also, I know it is a mexican restaurant but I can never seem to understand my server. I'm sad to say that Los Vaqueros has gone from one of our favorites to "Yeah, I guess Mexican sounds okay" places.

Its Okay Mexican food. I tend to judge a mexican place by there cheese sauce. They have your typical chicken broth style cheese sauce... Nothing impressive but they have lots of food choices. Always quick service. Great Tecates.

I've been eating here for years and never had a bad meal. The food; read Jeff M's and Tasia D's review they said it better than I could. The service is out of this world as soon as you sit down you have chips, tortillas, salsa and queso, and they take your drink order right then (tecate is good) ask for relish and hot salsa if you want it. Your drinks never run dry and the salsa, queso and chips is endless. I give them 5 stars because I would eat here everyday if I could.

Service: Quick, efficient, friendly. Drinks were refilled in a timely manner, empty dishes were taken away quickly and the waiter was smiling and polite. Atmosphere: Eh.. it was clean and plenty of moving space for customers and staff. Nothing really overly "wow!" or "ick!" about the place. Food: Chips were wonderful as well as the salsa. The queso was definitely lacking in flavor for me and was quite thin. Our main dishes were perfect! I had the chile relleno and it was amazing. Absolutely impressed! I've been to several Mexican restaurants and rarely have a dish prepared so fantastically! Everyone else enjoyed their meals immensely as well. Other: Parking kinda sucks at this place. Not detrimental to my coming here, just a heads up!

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
