I've had the chance to visit Taste of India in Norman, Gopuram in OKC, and Himalayas in Moore. Himalayas has been my favorite. I went for the lunch buffet at around 2pm on a Saturday. The food was fresh and I loved the variety. Being an Indian food novice, it's nice that they have all of their foods labeled so I can learn what I'm eating. The staff is friendly and helpful. The atmosphere is low-key. There was only one other family in the restaurant when we showed up, and a young child was running around the restaurant strumming a guitar. Random and strangely comfortable. As Jeff M. points out in his review, the spice level is kicked up a few notches at Himalayas, and I know this is one of the reasons why it's my favorite Indian food in the OKC area. It's the kind of heat that builds up and makes you happy. Everything I tried was delicious. I will be back!

We had dinner at this wonderful buffet. Great selection of Indian foods. The kids loved the potato samosas and mango ice cream.

Perhaps just an off night but guessing not. Dinner was only a buffet. Could not order off the menu. The food was luke warm at best and some looks like it had been out since the lunch buffet. At the very least, bring hot naan to the table! The chicken tikka was all dark meat. The paneer had very little flavor. In general - bland. I live in DC suburbs and we have great Indian food so maybe my standards are high. If this is the best OKC has for Indian food, stick with BBQ and Tex-Mex.

The BF's friends really love this place and wanted us to try it, so we had a little double date Friday night. $11 bucks per person gets you the buffet. The interior screams fancy Indian Golden Corral, but in a cute way! On weekends they serve Samosas which are vegetarian I think. They are little fried dumplings filled with veggie goodness! A pot of lentils sits next to the Samosas along with a mini bar of toppings, crunchy, non crunchy, sweet and savory. A few of my favs were: Na'n bread- it was fresh and doughy! Not the best I've ever had, but good 'nuff. Tandoori Chicken- I'm a sucker for chicken and favor the dark meat. The chicken legs looked a little rough with a few pieces on the burnt side, but that would be my only complaint. Tiki Masala- This had a slight kick to it, but still good. Loved dipping the sauce with the Na'n. Eggplant- There was a soupy eggplant dish that was just delicious. I can't cook eggplant even if my life depended on it, so it was nice to have. Chicken Basmanti- Flavorful- especially the tomatoes :) There were only a couple pieces in there. Towards the end of your meal, the waiters will bring you a small plastic container of ice cream. They have two flavors- coconut and mango. The mango is pretty tasty, but I couldn't eat the whole thing. Maybe because it was too sweet for me. All in all, I'd try this place again, but I'm not sure if it's worth the money for me. I had 3 plates, but very small portions of each food... So I technically must of had 1 and 1/2 full plates of food.

Himalayas is a middle of the road Indian restaurant that is a good option if you happen to be in Moore. I went for the lunch buffet. The pakora, both spinach and onion, were cold and fried with too heavy a batter, which left them very hard and unappetizing. The pappadum were better and the various chutneys were good. The main dishes varied in terms of quality. The ginger chicken was a nice surprise and the masala chicken was a little sweeter than I tend to prefer, but was still tasty. The vegetable korma was too sweet and the palak paneer had nice heat, but the curry was a little too thin and the cheese was not especially flavorful. My favorite items were the aloo gobi and the two dessert- mango custard and vermicelli kheer. All three were delicious. The atmosphere was pleasant. The restaurant is large and clean and the buffet is well tended. The service was good, my dirty plates were removed quickly and my drink was refilled when it was empty. If you're already in Moore I would recommend Himalayas, but there is better Indian food available in the OKC metro area.

Anybody who doesn't like this resteraunt must not know much about authentic Indian food. Toning spices down is Americanized and if you want yogurt sauce with your food you might as well eat Greek or mediterannean. The curries are great, the tandoori chicken is traditionally spiced and tasty, the naan is always fluffy and not burned, the paneer is awesome, the samosas are good. It's really one of the best if not the best Indian in the metro.

let me start with the fact that I love love love indian food. I went out of my way to try himalaya. I called in a togo order and asked for yogurt sauce with my nan. I received a 32 oz size amount (for an additional 4 dollars?) i asked about this absurd amount of yogurt sauce and the owner flipped his lid. He said,' when you called on the phone I knew you were american.' we argued for about 15 minutes about how he was taking advantage of americans, and eventually got my money back. If you eat at himalaya, you are supporting racism. bottom line.

I'm a regular patron of the Himalayas restaurant in Moore. Their food is great, but since it's a buffet, it's not always fresh so make sure you go on the weekends when they keep replacing the trays with freshly cooked food to keep up with the heavy inflow of guests. Best to avoid this place on weekdays, you'll be eating left over food. But if you do make it here on a Friday night or a Saturday evening, go for the biryani with plenty of raita on the side to add to the flavor and taste. Other must try items on their menu include the crunchy fried pappars (pappadam), masala dosa, vegetable samosas, daal and vegetable sambhar. Since the masala dosa isn't a regular buffet item, it has to be especially ordered, and is freshly prepared in their kitchen which makes it even better! Their barbecue chicken and curries are pretty average, and their soups are almost never fresh, so watch out before you pour yourself a big cup. Try their mango lassi (yoghurt drink), ice-cream kulfi for dessert and doodh Patti chai if you are a tea-lover like me, and you'll be completely full by the time you leave. Despite the passable items on the menu, their biryani, fresh naans, daal, dosa and vegetable sambhar will more than make up for the restaurant's shortcomings. Try it, you'll definitely find something good to chew on!

Oh I'm so sorry to have to give this place 2 stars. When it was located in Norman it was fantastic. However, they have a much larger facility now and I don't feel that the quality has kept up with the increase in size. The food on the buffet had definitely been out for QUITE a while. The Naan was stale and hard. The Raita didn't have as much flavor as others I have had. The tandoori chicken was dry. They service was okay, but not fantastic. They were busy with a banquet at the same time, so you would expect that the food on the buffet might have been fresher. All in all, I think I will not be back for quite some time.

I've tried just about every Indian place in Oklahoma and this is the best! The buffet is pretty well stocked ( I'm pretty skeptical towards most buffets but this was good ). I highly recommend for any tandoori or naan seekers!

The staff are nice, the food is fantastic and the price is reasonable. Why would you not go here? It's not my favorite style of Indian food, but for what they do, they do it quite well.

Here's a run down of the local Indian restaurants.... Taste of India: 4/5 stars Authentic food with good quality ingredients. Haven't tried the lunch buffet yet, but individual dinner items are delicious. Nice owner who throws in free dessert sometimes, but so-so decor and service. My top choice because they win hands down when it comes to taste. Misal: 3/5 stars Americanized food, but still pretty good quality. Upscale decor with a nice bar area. Good choice for taking someone out for work or as a date or to introduce a newbie to Indian food. Spice and Rice: 3/5 stars The first time I ate here, I got the veggie platter and was not impressed with the mixed vegetables or the lentils. The second time, I had the paneer tikka masala which was very good although the rice that came with it was a little dry. They do make a fantastic cup of authentic Indian chai however! For the price, the food isn't bad, but it drives me nuts that everything comes in disposable cups and plates even if you order to eat there. The "store" portion sells various dried lentils, spices, flour, and other cooking ingredients. Nothing fancy, but good for picking up some staples. The parking lot is only open to the public after 5pm. Himalayas: 2/5 stars Low quality food, in my opinion. Mostly used frozen vegetables so things have a mushy quality. Tandoori chicken was mostly bone and little meat. Weird thing was that even though there were flyers up for the Hindu temple, there was beef being served on the buffet. Definitely the most bang for your buck as things go though since there's a buffet for dinner also.

I admit, I am not a connoisseur of Indian Cuisine but this place is incredible! I'm craving it right now, actually. The set up is a buffet style, which is great because you can sample everything, especially if you are new to Indian food, as I was. The price is great for buffet, around $10 a person. You won't leave hungry as there is such a big selection, you are sure to love something. I have never had any troubles with my service! The only downfall? It makes me wish American's had a food culture this rich in spices, vegetables, and flavor.

ok so my husband and I went here and we really really wanted to like this place. we walked in and we were sat at a table and offered water. the waiter then told us it was a buffet so we went to the front to get some food. the food really did look good even though we didn't know what most of it was. we tried several different dishes and they really didn't have the flavor we were looking for. we read other reviews that said the food was spicy and that's what we had hoped for. most of the food tasted strongly of anise. the only thing I really liked was the Chicken Tikka Masala. it was delicious and what causes me to give this place two stars. other than that the rice we had was too sweet and the meatball that we tried tasted overcooked. overall it wasn't a terrible but it wasn't great. maybe we just came on an off night but the food just wasn't as good as we had hoped.

The service could be better but its a buffet so the worst thats probably gonna happen is they screw up your drink. The food however is delicious.

Hands down the BEST Indian food in OKC. Many, many fresh buffet selections to choose from. Wonderful service and very clean. I went to the lunch buffet and everything I ate was out of this world. I highly recommend this place, it is great! I can't wait to go back.

My first visit here was a disaster... by which I mean I had an upset stomach after having made plans to go here for dinner. Oh, what cruel fate to have an upset stomach on Indian food night! To add insult to injury, the most wonderful spice-scented aroma perfumed the air outside the restaurant, and I wasn't up to eating the food. Luckily, the waiter let me get a take out box- plus some additional containers- and load up at the buffet. So, later I finally got to eat it, even having a nice veggie masala for breakfast... yeah, I love Indian food for breakfast. I'm sure it tastes better fresh at the restaurant than as leftovers... but it was really damn tasty and I hope to go back soon.

Th is restaurant used to be located in Norman in a much smaller location. I love the new location, In the old Harry Bear's in the city of Moore Shopping center. Himalaya's has a buffet that is very good, variety, fresh. Restaurant is very, Very clean. Waiters are very nice, attentive, my water glass was never empty. You will not be disappointed eating here.

Himalaya's buffet contains a pineapple dessert that's worth a visit entirely unto itself. I've actually polished off a bowl of the pineapple dessert before even starting my "real" meal, it's that good. It seems like this place is never closed and the staff is very friendly and willing to work with any dietary needs. Ask about vegan options and they will go out of their way to make sure you're informed about your (multiple) choices and sometimes even bring out special dishes for you to try. The buffet is ample, they serve wine (this makes my grandfather very happy), and the food quality is very high- fresh and tasty. Make you sure try the spinach pakora. One of the best Indian restaurants in the OKC/Norman area.

Hands down the best Indian restaurant in Oklahoma City. The buffet spread is exhaustive and does justice to South Indian food. Has a large variety of vegetarian dishes!! The customer service is friendly and efficient..

  • Elizabeth L.

The dinner buffet was outstanding, my favorite parts: the lemon rice with lentils, nuts, and hot peppers, the fresh spinach pakora, the tasty crispy pappodam with the lemon pickles and spicy onion chutney, the best mushroom soup I've ever had, and a beet curry dish topped with cashews. They also had plenty of standard favorites like curries, tandoori, and my favorites palak paneer, dal, and koorma. They do carry Indian beers, I enjoyed a big 22 oz Flying Horse with my meal. I didn't have any dessert but saw they have mango soft serve and some other more classic dessert items. I also noticed they serve vegan chaats on weekends, The restaurant is located in an ugly strip shopping center but the inside is comfortable and inviting and the service is warm and friendly. Prices were VERY reasonable, especially for the high quality of the food. I will definitely be back!

I was so happy to find a decently priced Indian buffet! It's only $9.95 for lunch on weekdays and will easily fill you up with all of the yummy goodness this buffet has to offer. I tried a lot of what was offered and there wasn't anything I didn't like. The tandoori chicken was amazing! I also really enjoyed all of the vegetable dishes like saag paneer, veggie curry, korma and biryani. Delicious naan as well. My server was really on the ball too. This is a great space for larger groups and there is something for everyone, vegetarians and meat eaters alike!

Perfect as usual! I'm a regular to Himalayas in Tulsa but this was my first time in okc. Their menu is perfectly priced as usual! Over 20 items on the menu plus the chat corner. I've been to so many restaurants in search of good biryani in okc but their buffet still has the best so far I've tried! Definitely will be coming back! Ask for their masala dosa which is complimentary with the buffet! Don't miss the lamb curry, paneer tikka masala no matter what!

Hubs and I tried Himalayas w/ me dragging my feet the whole way there... And let me tell you... It was delicious. I am a super picky eater and had never tried Indian food, so the thought kind of terrified me. I stuck to the chicken... A little more basic... But I loved it and hubs loved it too! We went in a large group so we did their buffet. It was nice to be able to see the food and then see what you wanted to try. I really think that helped out my experience there. Well give it a try... You may like it!

This place is really yum! I used to be a hardcore "GOPURAM ONLY!!" believer after coming here years ago and not liking it, but I've changed my ways, and maybe Himalayas has, too. Sounds kinda dumb, but back then I couldn't quite wrap my mind around different regions cooking things differently, it all makes a little more sense to try everything in a different context! Everything I had here was really great and tasted fresh on the Saturday lunch that we went. They even have samosas, which were very filling, fresh, and delicious. The lamb kabob bites are my favorite here. With some palak paneer and rice, the best fat kid meal ever. We could go on and on about different things that you have to try, but really... you know you're going to try everything anyway! The thing that will keep me coming back... the mango custard is SO BOMB! Years ago I remember it tasting plasticky and like artificial mango flavor, but it was so awesome this time around, and they don't skimp on bananas at all in it. I'm pretty sure I ate this by the cup in between plates... I really do like how this place is brightly lit and in good shape. Gopuram is falling apart a little with booth seats that are torn or caved in. Oh, and don't forget to check OK Gazette for the Himalayas ads- they often feature 10% off coupons in there :D :D :D UPDATE: I went again on a Sunday evening at 6:15PM, and everything I had was lukewarm, so it loses a star for consistency. :/

If you are craving for Indian food for a reasonable price this is the place for you. They have all the major traditional dishes and everything has good flavor. The staff is friendly and attentive. The decor for the buffet could use some work but overall is not bad. You will enjoy it if you really are craving some good Indian food!

  • April C.

This is a great place for indian food. I love the chicken 65 and chicken tikka masala. When you eat from the buffet, you can have one complimentary made on the spot dosa but you have to ask for it. The mango ice cream is the best dessert here. Ordering off the menu of course is more fresh but their buffet is pretty decent.

  • Jeff M.

A buffet getting [*][*][*][*][*]? Whaaaaaaa? Okay okay okay. Hear me out. It's mainly because of two things. Maybe three. No, two. Let's go with two. 1) Chicken 65. Himalayas has it. And it's the best one I've had in Oklahoma City thus far. I don't know if that means much because I think only two other places even offer Chicken 65. This isn't to suggest that other places don't have good Chicken 65. But from personal experience, Gopuram doesn't have it at all, Taj usually has a similar dish (Chili Chicken) which is pretty good, and Khazana has it but it's pretty bad and barely qualifies as Chicken 65. I also appreciate that Himalayas doesn't tone down on the spiciness. [Warning: People who can't handle spicy foods, avoid Himalayas.] Also, Himalayas' buffet is somewhat unique compared to other buffets I have frequented. Their dessert options for example; has Kheer AND Pineapple Halwa (most Indian restaurants have neither). Most Indian restaurants fall back on the standard Gulab Jamun or the yellow colored equivalent of Pepto Bismol (i.e. "mango" pudding, blech). 2) Their catering is balls to the wall (what does that even mean, "balls to the wall"?) brilliant. We recently had to cater a large amount of Indian food (actually this was approximately a month ago). We are still eating leftovers of Chicken 65. We had so much leftover food (because they gave so much for what we paid) that we ended up freezing large portions of it after giving away even larger portions to anyone who would take it. I had some again yesterday and it still tasted good. Do you know how crazy it is that I'm able to re-heat frozen Chicken 65 and it's still enjoyable? Also, their catering prices are amazing (from personal experience) compared to other Indian restaurants in the Greater Oklahoma City area. 3) I changed my mind, I'm including a third thing. Amazing customer service. Uh-mazing. So good. I have nothing but good things to say about their customer service. I'm more inclined to believe that you were the jerk in the scenario if you happened to receive bad customer service at Himalayas. It's a [*][*][*][*] on a good day, but I've had such a great experience with their catering services that I feel obliged to bump it up. I would be here more often if it was closer to my domicile. Thank goodness it's not.

I went for am early dinner while in town and Himalayas was suggested by the front desk when I mentioned Indian. It is a dinner buffet with a large selection of options. On the positive side the dishes were all labeled and several had a very nice flavor. On the downside the food was not very hot. Service was uninspired but it was a buffet so I did not expect much. For a $10 dinner walking distance to my hotel but it was fine nothing to go out of the way for.

We really like this place. They are variety and spice level is good for different ethnic person. Really like their snack bar! Fuchka, samosa, bhel just awesome. Buffet was better than general. Palak Paneer is also good. Servers are friendly, quick. I hope this review will help other people who are trying to find Indian food OKC.

I came across this resturaunt thanks to Yelp. I arrived at 330 pm on a Sunday. The buffet was available but I couldn't order from the menu due to the cooks break which is fairly typical. They have the typical buffet selection for the most part. It was good and I would like to try items off the menu. Of note they had a mango custard which was a cool dessert more like a cold soup it was tasty with a little mango ice cream.

I love this place. Good Indian food at a very fair price. The lunch buffet always has an array of choices, and unlike how some places seem to loose their spice the closer they get to the center of the continental US, this place has no qualms about spicing things up! A great bang for the buck and the staff is super courteous. It's easy to get in and get out or to kick back and chat it up with friends. Definitely one of my go-to places and a favorite since moving to OK.

Best Indian food I have had since returning from the Fiji Islands! I lived in Fiji for some time, where there is a strong Indian presence. I enjoyed Indian food regularly while there, and THIS is the most authentic Indian food I have had since returning! It's spices are just right, variety is delightful, and price is great! (My 4 yr old are free!) There were many natives dining as well, which proved to me their authenticity! We are passing thru, but wish we had a restaurant like this in our home town!

This restaurant is good if you are looking for a decent Indian buffet. The buffet has some standard items and a few rotating items to keep it interesting. Not the best Indian food you will ever have, but good enough to keep going there.

  • Matt A.

I love the food here and always try to stop here when passing through. So why only three stars, you might ask?? Well, the last few times, the vegan/vegan options seem to be dwindling. Maybe that is by design and if so, that is okay if management is taking that approach. But I would prefer more options. This last time, I stopped in and the vegan options were limited so I decided to order aloo Gobi and beghan (eggplant) off the menu. However, they were out of eggplant. So I went to Taj instead and it was amazing. I will keep eating at Himalayas and I hope I can raise my rating in the future.

I went to Himalayas for supper in July 2011 and ate from the buffet. It was almost as good as an Indian-food establishment at which I have ate in St. Charles, Illinois, that is considered a gold standard. The buffet selection was extensive. Food was well prepared though the vibrancy of the flavor was slightly lacking, which may be indicative of ingredients of slightly less-than-excellent quality. The quality of service was more than adequate. Overall, Himalayas was very good, and I recommend it.

I'll start off with this disclaimer: I'm no Indian food expert. I just have a mouth with a tongue and teeth. I've had plenty of Indian food in the past, so while I was in Moore I decided to stop by Himalayas to try 'em out. Well, I called and ordered for take out because it was Dungeons and Dragons night, fool! (And no, that wasn't a joke) The worst part of my experience was using GPS to get there. By that I mean, getting my boyfriend to listen to the GPS and me and not take short-cuts that ended up making it a longer trip than it needed to be. Stacy (my GPS) was becoming very insistent and I think she was nearing the evolution to a sentient AI that was going to punch my boyfriend. Anyway, When we got there and walked in, it was very calm and quiet, but fairly busy. I did notice that there were actually quite a few Indian customers, so one would think there was somethin' to this place! Just went there to pick-up so I can't deeply comment on service, but they were nice enough. Coconut soup 4/5 -I'm not sure what I was expecting, other than the obvious. I'd never had it before but the description made me think of some sort of soupy curry. It wasn't at all like that, so shows how much -I- know! It was very sweet, of course, and very good. Rava onion dosa 4/5 - "Semolina crispy crepes flavored with onions, cumin seeds, coriander leaves and curry leaves", to give you an idea of what those words mean! ;) It's a vegetarian dish (I'm an omnivore- MMM MEAT), but it's cheaper than meat dishes so that's what I got (I'm so cheap)! I enjoyed it, and this thing is HUGE. Good golly. It comes with coconut chutney but I didn't like it much. Instead, I dipped it in my coconut soup here and there. Sambar (comes with the rava onion dosa) 3/5 - "Sambar is a vegetable stew or chowder based on a broth made with tamarind and pigeon peas". To me it was very spicy and the liquid had a coarse texture. It was alright, but not something I'd order on its own.

I love indian food and I have had the pleasure to have it in a number of places around the world. I just moved to OKC and was looking for the perfect indian restaurant. I went with my roommate who has never had indian food before. I was not disappointed. We had the buffet... I loved all the meals provided so did my friend. And I think I/ this restaurant got her hooked on Indian food as well. Oh and the ambience is cool too. It's a pretty decent restaurant. Definitely worth a try.

This was my first time ever eating at an Indian place so I really don't have much to go on. The buffet seemed pretty small to me at first glance, which it is if you compare them to some of the Chinese buffets or American buffets around here. All the dishes are labeled, I had the naan, chicken 65 and the tandoori chicken to start off with. I'm not very adventurous, this trip was purely my husband's idea! The naan was very good and so we're both chicken dishes. The other dishes I tried I didn't like, the spices that were used on them were not something I enjoyed. I decided to try their dessert, which was mango custard. It was my favorite thing during the whole meal. I'm probably not the best person to review this place, but as picky eaters go, I found something to eat and that's saying something!

It is one of the best Indian Buffet I had. We went to rather an odd time (around 4pm) and I was not sure whether I would get fresh food on buffet. But to my surprise it was all fresh and they were keep on changing the time we arrived. Attender was good. She welcomed us and gave good attention to my 4 yrs old daughter. My daughter loved Masala Dosa which was specially prepared for her. Come to taste - Starters - Rosted chicken, Palak Pakoda, Veg/Non-veg spring roll were good. Main - Chicken Tikka Masala, Chettinadu chicken were really amazing and authentic Chicken Biryani must be mentioned here. It was awesome!!! Desert - Mango Icecream, Pineapple Kesari bhaat, Custard were too good Only thing which needs improvement is Gulab Jamun. It was not good. But given the variety, it can be easily neglected. :) In the end, we were tooooo stuffed to try out other dishes. Special mention that the Attender there clearly told me that only Chicken is HALAL and mutton/beef are NOT, when asked about HALAL. I appreciate that they explicit mentioned this.

Even when this place is packed out and super busy the service stays great and the buffet stays stocked with great food.

Chicken masala is the only thing i can remember the name of- very tasty. I'm new to Indian Food, but this place is pretty good. The flat bread is great (chewy yet flaky?)- I dipped it in saucy stuff even though it could have been soup for all I know. The lady at register is a little curt, but maybe it's a cultural thing. Most people say "can you please tell me the age of your children?" not "Give me age of your children." as if I was going to pull one over on her. She charged my 11 yr old as an adult- even though she's the same size as my 8 year old who ate more- But, it's a buffet and I understand you have to draw the line somewhere. I'd say 2-3 more rudely brief encounters and i'll probably go to another place- well, never mind- I can handle different personalities as long as the food is good. You must try the mango ice cream or is it custard? (it's cold) But it is a great way to hit that sweet craving after the meal- and it's not overpowering- it's just right. The waiters are very attentive as well, that makes up for the cashier never smiling and asking for your kids birth certificates (sarcasm).
