i know mexican food. i have eaten it all across north america inside a three table hole in the wall to a three story resturante extravaganza. so this place is on par. its average small town, hard working family trying to put out decent food for a very reasonable cost. if you dont want your chicken coming from the can taste, fork out some more money and enjoy the fajita chicken on any dish, but quit crying. mcdonalds is a laboratory studying the effects of ingesting chemicals on submitting humans so you and the crew enjoy......and the guy that based his review on the free cheese dip, i give the cheese dip and that guy both 1 star, but i dont have to deal with either or pay if i dont want. the chips and salsa are pretty dang good. the service is 4-5 stars. oh btw, the three table hole in the wall i mentioned, blew away the three story joint, it was in littleton, colorado somewhere. theres another great one in denton, texas. so the regular meals i give 3 stars, the better chicken bumps up a star but you can find something to enjoy here im sure.

Good food--and FREE QUESO! I love places that give you free queso with you meal. Their fajitas are EXCELLENT--I highly recommend them. This place is worth going to if you are looking for good Mexican food. Don't bother driving into the big city.

The outside of this place doesn't convey the deliciousness on the inside. My husband and I were at Lake Murray over the weekend and one of the locals recommended this place. We didn't expect much since we have been disappointed by most small town Mexican restaurants. However, this place made a believer out of us. The cheese sauce is nothing to write home about, but the chips are warm, crispy and perfectly thin, just like I like them. The salsa was okay, but not at all hot like other reviewers have stated. Maybe they've toned it down? Let's get on to the main entrees. I ordered the chicken combo for $6. Hello? $6. That's incredibly cheap for the quality and amount of food they served. The combo included one chicken enchilada and one beef taco, served with rice and beans. The beans were delicious! There has to be real lard in them, because I haven't tasted refried beans like that in years. The rice was also good, not sticky, not too much tomato. The chicken enchilada was wrapped in what looked like a homemade tortilla, with spices running throughout, though that did not overpower the taste of the enchilada. The chicken could have had a bit more flavor, but the combination of just the right amount of cheese and sour cream sauce made it perfect. The taco shell was perfectly crispy and overstuffed with tasty ground beef, lettuce, tomato and onion. My husband had beef enchiladas. They were made with the same tortilla and ground beef, but layered with just the right amount of chili sauce and cheese. The service here is top-notch. All of the staff was friendly and our waitress kept our sweet tea filled without being intrusive. Overall our experience with La Roca was good. It's still a small town restaurant - Robert Irvine would love to get his hands on the décor - but for the price and quality of food it's a great choice if you're in the area.

Take Exit 15 off of I-35 and go East. It is on the right at the "T" intersection. It takes about one minute to get there. The building looks funky and shows it's age but... the Food was excellent. You get a small bowl of queso and another of hot sauce. I mixed them and it was perfect. The chips were fresh but greasy. They might turn up the fryer or leave them in a bit longer. My Chili Rellano dinner was very filling. I couldn't eat it all. Man, they really give you the cheese and the Ranchero Sauce was first rate. I am pretty sure the beans are made with lard because they were tasty. Nothing special about the rice. Service was good.

If I could give them no stars I would. We worked in the for a few day and my whole crew went here for lunch. Poor excuse for a restaurant. Every thing tasted like it comes from a can with no flavor. The free queso should be free because they can't sell it. Not even sure there was cheese in it. No one on my crew liked it and most returned the meals and went to Mc Donalds.

Just re-opened, Local restaurant La Roca just got pimped! Over the 4th holiday hubby & I were driving by on the way to Lake Murray & noticed that the whole building that houses the restaurant "La Roca" was completely torn down roof & all! We were hoping it was getting a much needed make over & boy did it ever! It's been completely renovated inside & out! It looks fantastic! Woohoo! :)) Hubby & I cruised on in during happy hour for a couple margaritas to check out the new space & we were both blown away! Everything has been re-done from floor to ceiling & looks professionally done in beautifully coordinating earth tone colors. Tile floors, warm honey woods, beautiful peach colored walls & sunset orange pendulum lighting with polished nickel mod ceiling fans throughout. My favorite part is that they have incorporated skeleton motif Mexican folk art/original paintings into the design. Much like the 'La Catrina' artwork by José Guadalupe Posada that depicts a female skeleton dressed only in a hat befitting the upper class outfit of a European of her time. La Roca has chosen very similar artwork but with a much more whimsical folk art style representing of the Mexican indigenous belief system, Dia de Los Muertos (The day of the dead). On that day families remember past relatives and try to remember them in a good way :)) In other words, the interior is beautifully done with original inspiring Mexican artwork. LOVE !!! The menu has also been updated & so has the cocktails! We had a couple orders of chicken & bean nachos that were fantastic. They even customized them per our request, no cheese, as I can't eat dairy. The guac, pico & chips & salsa were all very good. However, the free serving of FAKE YELLOW QUESO should be taken off the menu and/or replaced by a queso blanco. Note to owner(s) Please change the queso!!!! We also had more than our share of Sangria, margaritas & shots of silver patron. The sangria margaritas were so awesome hubby's head is suffering a "day of the dead" tequila skeleton bonking lol What a improvement! We love the new La Roca! We can't wait to go back & have some more of those sangria margaritas, chill in the new stylish space & try some more yummy dishes we saw on the new menu. Hopefully there will also be some better queso available so I can update that in my next review. Well done! :))

Super Authentic small town Mexican Restaurant owned and run by locals who have been here awhile. We have been eating here for over 12 years and have never had a bad meal. Great Margaritas and the salsa is fresh - with an awesome bite of cilantro and jalapeños. Everything is good, or great, including the service and prices!

Only had the steak fajitas but they were great. The service is good and the wait-time for our food wasn't too long either. You can also call ahead if you're in a hurry and have your food waiting for you when you get there.

Nothing in my life has compared to the stories I tell about this shithole. I have never been more disgusted with food in my entire life. It needs to be wiped off the face of the earth. No one should know how to make things this poorly.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
