Awesome environment. Great food. Same great friendly service I've experienced for 45 years - family style - laid back - highly recommend!

We were in the middle of nowhere Oklahoma. It was pretty late at night and we were hungry for something. Pretty much anything. We finally find a town that has a Braum's and we go in, thinking, "there's gotta be something better than Braums," so we ask the guy behind the counter, "Is there a sit down restaurant nearby that's open?" The guy says, "yeah, there's an Italian restaurant down the road about a couple minutes. It's better than Olive Garden!" Oh..! It must be good then. So we go down the road and we end up here at Isle of Capri. This place is pretty huge. It's big enough for a wedding reception. It still has Christmas decorations up which is a bit weird but it works okay. It's somewhat out of place, but it's not the super Christmasy decorations. Just some garland here and there and a wire-frame reindeer that's lit up. We sit down and it's kind of a family style dining experience. You get salad and ravioli and then you get your entree that you order. The salad was fine, it's just mixed greens in a bowl. Nothing too special. The ravioli were decent. I wouldn't say they were delicious, but we were rather hungry and when you're hungry, everything tastes better. So these must have been below average. The wife and I ordered the Chicken Parm and it came out kind of like a chicken fried chicken. It was hammered flat, but it was very thickly breaded. Almost like a chicken patty and it was covered in marinara. It didn't really have much of a taste to it so I wasn't particularly wowed by it. Then came the bill, there were 4 of us and we, The Wife and I, paid our own and it came to $32. That's steep for what we got. I can't even award this Restaurant with any portion of a Bruce Star: Not worth trying if you can help it.

Terrible service. Food was mediocre to good. Simple dishes were sent back repeatedly for being prepared incorrectly. Steak was tough. Tuscan was good. Piccata was tasty. Don't think we'll be back.

We weren't impressed at all when we went here last Monday June 30, 2014. The smell in the place was old smelling. The salad had ends of the lettuce in the bowl we shared. My ravioli I ordered was way too thick and was gummy tasting. The waiter never checked on us and they had maybe 6 people in the place. The bread they served was hard. The ONLY thing good was my husband's manicotti. Way too pricey though. VERY Disappointed. I would give this a 1/2 star if that option was available .. ..

Very good for nowhere Oklahoma. Possibly the best lasagna I have ever had. Lamb fries are perfect. Please do not use the ketchup on them. Everything is home made avoid the ravioli it is thick and gummy but has a good filling, I could see how it may be good fried. Just GO!

Our 22 November evening trip to Isle of Capri felt more like an episode of Gordon Ramsay's Kitchen nightmares than a night of dining on fresh, family-style Italian food. We initially were planning on a stop at nearby Pete's during our drive across OK, but various online reviews seemed to suggest that Pete's had gone downhill in recent years, and Isle of Capri was the place to try. We settled in to dining room, checked out the menu, and were a little shocked by the prices (high by Houston standards, let alone rural Oklahoma). But whatever, if it's good, it's worth the price. My dining companion settled on lasagna. I went for the allegedly homemade italian sausage. The "rounds" of food started coming. First, the bread. It was rubbery, indicative of not-fresh bread being microwaved for too long and then served. Not a good sign. Second, the salad. The salad was.... salad. Unfortunately, it was swimming in some sort of heavily salted vinaigrette. Or should I say slightly vinegared salt? No other spices or flavors were really in evidence. Third -- the complimentary pastas (a spaghetti bowl and another bowl of four raviolis in sauce). The spaghetti bowl was easily the best item consumed this night. That's not saying much -- it was cafeteria quality only, but at least edible compared to the other item. The ravioli? I was dubious when I cut into the thing with my fork and the filling had about as much give as drying caulk. Why I put the bite in my mouth afterwards I can't say for sure, but it tasted about the same. No flavor. NONE. Then I was faced with the dilemma -- chew and swallow, or spit the thing out. It didn't taste off (it didn't taste at all), and since we were traveling, I knew we had probiotic capsules in the car, so I decided not to make a scene and swallowed. No more "ravioli" for us, though. Fourth -- the french fries. Yes, the french fries. We had no idea french fries were part of the extravaganza, but they were. We couldn't tell if they were fresh crinkle cuts (doubtful) or from a bag, but they were swimming in grease, and they were fried at a temperature much too low, so they were mushy instead of crisp. Inedible. We let them sit off to the side, in all their glorious grease. The waitress then arrived to inform me that they were out of their signature Italian sausage, what would I like instead? "To escape," I thought to myself. Instead, I told her I would share my companion's lasagna despite the plate-sharing fee. Finally, the lasagna arrived. Thankfully, the filling was soft. The lasagna itself seemed to be swimming in a pool of orange grease. My dining companion tried her dish and didn't have anything to say (she is not prone to criticize a restaurant in public, no matter how sorry). I tried a bite, and the only thing I could taste was SALT. No other flavor. Just salt. With layers of pasta, a little filling without enough flavor to compete with the SALT, and that orange greasy sauce. After several bites of the Saltagna, we gave up. We were hungry from driving all afternoon from Houston, so we ate a little of the cafeteria-quality spaghetti (the only thing not salted to death), paid our check, and fled. When we got to our car, we immediately took our probiotics (because I was really scared that the ravioli thing had been prepared weeks ago, left to dry out in a walk-in, and served -- that's the only way I can explain the consistency of the filling). Not sure if the probiotics made the difference, but at least we didn't wind up sick from the experience. In short, we can't understand how a place like this has not been shuttered by the health department, let alone draws any positive reviews from anyone. Fresh Italian food is NOT hard to do and not expensive: Red sauce is easy to make with fresh ingredients, a small herb garden will give any Italian food some flare (hint: SALT is not an herb, and should not be the ONLY "flavor" in evidence in your cooking), high quality cheeses and homemade pasta are not terribly expensive compared to the ingredients found in less rustic cuisine, vinaigrette should not be a challenge (and certainly shouldn't be salty!), and if you can't pull off FRESH bread.... well. I couldn't help but think of Gordon Ramsay when I thought of spitting out that nasty thing the restaurant called ravioli and simply leaving. I kept having thoughts of what the walk-in at this place must look like, and wondering if ANYONE who works at the place EVER tastes the food. My guess is they know better. And if you've made it to the end of this review, my hope is that you now know better. AVOID this restaurant.

Pete's, while not the greatest Italian, beats Capri by a long shot.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
