Consistently good. Been going to Chelinos for many years. I've been to this particular location probably 40 times. The fajitas are always plentiful and delicious. They're usually a little light in the green peppers and onions, but the beef and chicken are delicious. The requisite chips, cheese, and salsa are always good and brought out quickly. Prices are good as are the portions. Service is usually very quick and friendly. I don't recall a time that I've been dissatisfied with the service. The only reason I'm giving 4 out of 5 stars is that the facilities are a bit run down and really showing their age. The entire place could definitely use a renovation. That being said, I still love Chelinos and will be back many times.

Went with a group of 12 for dinner on Saturday night, not such a good idea. The food was great, served hot and somewhat fast. The service was ok, they were running their backsides off. They simply have more business than they can handle and its causing the service level to drop. This location is an old Braums ice cream store, the parking is a nightmare as there are just a few parking spots. And, the cleanliness of the place reminded me of a few central american places I had been, third world at best. Go for the food and be prepared to deal with the rest.

The Edmond Chelinos has been our family's spot since I was 7 years old. I love the staff at this location, and in my opinion the Edmond location and the original Chelinos on the south side have the best food. They have the best chimichangas and fajitas in Oklahoma! I don't love their Queso as much as I used to (they've changed it a few times over the years) but it's complimentary with your meal! Also a great place to take kids who are picky eaters, they have a great Americanized kids menu. I'm sucker for great TexMex and Chelinos hits the spot! 5 stars!

Chelino's is a relatively recent discovery for my wife and I. We have driven by them for years but never actually went into one until last month. Since then, I think we've gone... 4 times? The food comes pretty quickly, and the plates are almost always scalding hot (watch out.) I usually get the Tacos Al Carbon, which is actually two large tortillas filled with carne asada... they're more like burrito-sized, but no matter. They are served with refried beans, rice, and scoops of guacamole and pico de gallo. You can sort of make-your-own-burrito if you open the tortillas up and add the rest of the stuff on the plate. I'm not sure if thats the idea, but whatever, that's how I roll. The portion for that specific meal is large, to the point where if I finish it, I'm uncomfortably full. The free salsa I like well enough, the queso not so much. The salsa is tomatoey and not much else. It does have a nice consistency (nice being subjective), but it's not very spicy and it's kind of...generic. That being said, I always end up eating like 4 cups/dishes/whatever of it so apparently I like it. The queso is not for me. I'm not much of a queso fan in the first place (there's a story for that, but it would take too long) but theirs is just... nah. The restaurant itself is set up a little weird, with the tables pretty much on top of each other. It's definitely not a private or intimate place to eat (I think someone in another review said that the location used to be a Braums, which explains the strange setup of the building). Their theory of table serving, from my experience, is "just do the minimum". There is usually a ton of servers/busboys hanging around, but they don't really check on you, the chips/salsa can take a while to be refilled, etc. They pretty much take your order, bring you your drinks, bring the food, bring the check. Which, personally, doesn't bother me but it might bother someone else. Also, just so you're not surprised if you've never been, some of your waitstaff or cashiers may be young. Like, prepubescent young. One of our servers was maybe 14 on a visit, and another time the cashier (who was being overseen by an adult employee, probably her mom) was a little girl who might have been 8 or 9. However, she got the change right, she was polite, it was all good. All in all- good Mexican food, interesting dining experience. For me the food outweighs the other stuff.

I used to like this place but the service has gotten worse and worse over time. Last time I went in there with my wife and kids, both of my kids asked for jello as their side item. The server said okay and took the rest of our orders. When he returned with our food, he handed my kids their plates and they both had french fries on the plate. When we confronted him about it, he said it was because they were out of jello. Why didn't he tell us that as soon as he knew! My kids did not WANT french fries. They could have picked a different (and healthier) side item but no, he just took it upon himself to give them what he thought they would want. Aside from that, the service in general was horribly slow and the food was really sub-par. Most of it was cold. Won't be going back. Have to find a new regular Mexican restaurant now. Thanks Chelino's for a horrible lunch experience.

Good tex mex. Figured it must be ... Place was packed at 2 on a Saturday afternoon. Even with that and me dining alone, service was very attentive.

This place has very good food if you're wanting a more authentic experience. The service was average, but I went during the prime lunch time. I can only assume it would be better during the slower times. I do appreciate the free queso.

Think greasy Mexican and you will not be disappointed. Carryout always cold when we get home so just sit down and enjoy the atmosphere. Some of the waiters have been serving up this delicious food since their opening.

I have yet to find a good Mexican restaurant since moving to Edmond. I had good expectations for chellinos because it just looked like my type of place, but it was not. pulled in and parking lot was packed. inside we were seated at the last available table. the inside is small and tables are packed like sardines. menu was full of over complicated dishes and no simple combinations. complimentary chips and queso was ok but they have the same lousy salsa I keep finding in central Okla. menu prices were a little on the high side. I had chicken fajitas. the chicken was not overly flavorful. I had about 2 whole cooked onions and about 4 strips of bell pepper that were just oily with no caramelization. defiantly will not be back. I guess my search for Mexican in edmond continues.

Guacamole doesn't seen homemade. Margaritas were kind of warm when served and not much ice in the glass. Cute little place. Tacos were good.

Best Mexican food around, has become a request for anyone traveling in town to meet me. Try the Guiso!

I used to love Chelino's, but the service is getting awful. Yes you get your food fast, but don't expect them to come back after that. Good luck getting more cheese and shells without actually going and finding someone to go get them. The seating is very tight, and it is always loud. If they worked on their customer service, they would rate much higher in my book. Not to mention if you have a bad experience with the food and don't eat it, they still charge you.

Have always been a Chelinos fan. A bit crowded, tight seating, but food and waitstaff customarily good. Always a safe bet.

We eat here on a pretty regular basis. It's not upscale, but the staff remembers regular customers and goes above and beyond to make sure you get what you want even if it's out of the ordinary. Most of the time, the food is good, but over the past few months, we've had a few misses. Even so, it's hard to go wrong with Chelino's fresh salsa, chips and hot cheese. We're also pretty big fans of the chicken chimichanga. It's more than big enough to feed two people, and the chicken fajita meat is a yummy change from the standard shredded chicken.

Its not the classiest place but the service has always been above average and they have the best salsa and the beer served in a frozen glass with lime on the rim is a classic. Prices are reasonable and you won't be waiting for your food inside or takeout for very long. Ted's used to have the best beef fajitas in the metro, but Chelinos are now my favorite with more tastes and much more tender than Ted's. The cheese sauce is now about a fifth cheese and some cornstarch and I would rather have less that was made with real cheese instead. For the price, it is a great place to eat, but its not gourmet Mexican food and there are no handmade tortillas or fancy atmosphere.

Some of the best food I can find outside of New Mexico. They are very speedy, polite, and the queso is great! (The most important part.)

It's my favorite Tex-Mex in Edmond, and partially to blame for my waist size. I am never unhappy with anything on the menu. Confession: I may have attended Henderson Hills Church just to get here faster. OK...service is friendly and quick....lots of giveaway munchies...simple and fast...cheese enchiladas are perfection. I love the entire menu. It's not the one most people love best...but I do. I have a particular life changing event that occurred at this location. I freed myself from a bad relationship. So, next time you see me here...come let me buy you a beer!

Note: EDMOND LOCATION One of the better Chelino's locations - to the reviewer who posted about lard: OF COURSE they do!!! That's good Mexican food! Good with huge portions, but greasy & not great. Once upon a time, I swore by this place. Since that time, I have experienced much better Mexican food. Likes: The food comes out damn near instantly! They send in your order, & I swear it's usually like 5 minutes before it arrives! The portions are gigantic. With the complimentary chips, queso, salsa, tortillas, & (after the meal) sopapilla, if you finish you're entrée, you're quite the eater. They douse many entrees in loads of jack cheese, & the shredded beef is loaded into their burritos. The food is very tasty for the most part, though certain items may be lacking, & it's all very, VERY greasy. The food is also fairly cheap, though their prices have gone up over the years & now match most of their competition (though still cheaper than Ted's). I also typically like the atmosphere. I have always had great service at Chelino's, and that says a lot considering that I've eaten there scores of times over the years. I also enjoy the generally happy & fast-[aced environment in which they work, along with the Spanish music playing overhead. Occasionally, they employ a single mariachi guitar player to entertain the diners, which is always a plus. Of note, the Mexican beers and margaritas are particularly popular, though I have never personally partaken in either. Dislikes: As Chelino's is a chain, some locations are better than others, & they sometimes have particularities to their food. For instance, the one on north May in OKC has better shredded beaf than most. The one on Alameda in east Norman has poorly flavored beef for some reason. The one in downtown OKC (Bricktown) has fairly nasty chips and always serves ground beef by default in its burritos instead of shredded. Typically, their nachos are so loaded with super-greasy cheese that the chips near the bottom get soggy before you get to them. Their chips are usually not very good either, though it can vary. The tortillas are pretty basic & quite inferior to Mamaveca's or Ted's. Some locations have such high turnaround & such cheap tables (amongst other cheap fixtures) that your drink will literally move on it own on the table because of the grease & soapy water mix on it! Definitely go to Chelino's at least for the experience. The food is good but not great, but there is a lot to like about the place. Besides, really there are only maybe 2-3 better Mexican joints in the OKC metro, and you can find one of these virtually anywhere, unlike those other places.

They put lard in the food. If you ready to do a 30 minutes cardio workout after you went there. It should be fine.

They don't have the best flower tortillas but the speedy service and great food more than make up for it. Start making your tortillas in house and I'll give you 5 stars! I love this restaurant.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
