My first time in this location, 10 months ago i went to their other one located in Ardmore I am a (truck driver). Really good service, disappointed because they had basically pineapple and horchata water. Was hoping for tamarind. I had to return the pineapple water. Guacamole exquisite with the chips they are great. Again tacos wow!!!! Carnitas ,carne asada and chicken awesome. Chorizo too strong for me. But overall really really good.

I came here not too long ago and ordered two of the seafood quesadillas. I've had this same quesadilla once before and remember it being good except I remember them getting the order wrong. I think there's a serious language barrier with the staff and no one is really trying to improve upon that. I jokingly was like, "I bet they get the order wrong." They get the order wrong. Once they finally get it right, I eat some of it and it's the nastiest quesadilla I've ever had. Seriously, everything on it was bland. Onions bland. Sour cream bland. Just yuck. It felt like they were trying to be bad. I don't get how a sea food quesadilla can be bland. Even the guacamole was bad. Shrimp was tough. Order wrong. I'll never return.

Good tasting authentic food but odd & disappointing service. i was on a date with my mom (very rare event) and saw this place on yelp so i decided to take us out. i struggle to digest food due to a herititary condition ive developed over the years and especially deciding a lot so at this time i havent eaten well for couple days. i get very excited when i see something i might want to eat. food we order seemed pretty fresh and authetic, it was pretty good and that's saying A LOT on my end (so thats a good thing lol). we also got the 3rd largest margarita on the menu, i wanted pina colada and my mom wanted mango so we got both in 1 cup expecting it would be some what separated and our waiter understood i wanted separately yet he brought it out mixed together. first of all, WAY TOO SWEET, i could barely taste the liquor and i didnt enjoy it due to the immense amt of sugar was irritating my throat. they must have thought we couldnt handle it because we are both thin/fit and possibly they didnt know some asian women can drink...? idk about my mom but i sure can (probably under the table). i requested very kindly if they could make it stronger but they were being weird idk what that was about and my patience was slowly turning into becoming quite annoyed at this point. this would be the time to take a drink but damn... you already know i couldnt due to the previous explanation hahaha. what a shame. the staff was not very friendly at all as soon as we entered even when we were being patient and nice still. they rarely checked on us and we had to get up to get their attention... BASICALLY, they didnt seem to really give a fuck and kept hearing laughter but when it came to service it almost seemed borderline rude(and im very nice in general) ... i never upload or review and if so it isnt as this long or descriptive. idk if its due to them knowing we were not from this town that the service was lower than fair? (our outfit was very different from the other customers since we were higher casual chic but i dont discriminate what kind of place is but i do care who im with and the importance of the occasion) so i was fairly disappointed and made me not enjoy the food eventhough as good it was. very unfortunate... service always supports on the taste of the food as well as making me able to eat more/better :/ we still tipped 20% but man that was something... blah I want to give 2 1/2 stars but whatever idc now that ive wasted my time doing this lol. what a trip... well go for food forsure but the margs are not great as others hyped it as and hopefully yall would get better service than we got to experience.. :( oh wellzzz

Stopped in on the way back from Fort Worth. Good: It was close to the gas station. Nachos came quick. Not as good: Nachos were soggy. Salsa and Water were never refilled. Verdict: I'll probably skip it next time around.

Not so much. I've definitely had better. We started off with the white cheese sauce, tasty but very thin. It was hard to dip and then eat without dripping it all over the table, a couple of small plates (like most other Mexican restaurants would have provided) would have been in order. I got Carnitas ala Mexicana and the wife got Carnitas tacos. The meat was alright, just not seasoned up like I expected. It was stewed with jalapeños so with each bit of meat, I added a bit of pepper. More like it. And the wife said the meat in her tacos was blah. The ride and beans are nothing spectacular, in fact far from it. And the margaritas were weak, obviously batch made with cheap mix and very little tequila. I might go back but not after checking out other Mexican restaurants here.

Good layout with dark vertical paneling give a more intimate feeling than the open floorplan most restaurants have. Atmosphere better than most. Chips were warm and fresh, excellent salsa that tasted homemade. Extensive menu with reasonable prices. Service was fast considering the restaurant was pretty full. The chicken in my salad was cooked just right with a good presentation for a midday meal. Four stars based on our lunch experience. Would eat here again.

Wow, this place was awesome. We were driving from Dallas to Arkansas and were looking for a spot to eat dinner in Durant. El Tapatio was incredibly convenient to the highway (exit and entrance into the parking lot) and the food was awesome. Our table got fajitas, enchiladas, soft tacos. The best were the enchiladas, the fajitas and the QUESO! Don't leave without getting the QUESO. To die for. Tortillas for dipping. Heaven. Very cold beers (don't worry, our driver didn't drink!). The service was very good and fast. We will make this a regular stop.

Great service and good food. Stopped by on the way home and was pleasantly surprised. It was an easy stop off the highway. I posted pictures if our picks from the menu.

Just off highway US75. What a great find just next to the overpass tucked back off the road. Just look for a pink/salmon colored building. The white queso is very good. They have fresh salsa and homemade daily crispy chips. It was a good start. Then the enchilada had beautifully moist chicken and well flavored beans. I would definitely stop here again.

The chips were nice and crisp, but other than that, it wasn't very good.

We're only in Durant for a couple of days and were looking for some good Mexican for lunch. We consulted Yelp for direction and Yelp did not disappoint. El Tapatio is in an older, dumpy looking building and this restaurant has clearly been around for awhile. But that's a good thing, right? Our food was excellent and the service was very good as well. Great chips and salsa. If we lived in the area, we'd become regulars here.

Gave it a one star, since I could not do 0. That's how BAD this place is. My husband and I went here based on reviews from yelp.com . I wish we had not. We spent our 20 year anniversary here, regrettably!!! How do you mess up a margarita? Seriously, tasted like they had been made by a 2 year old. The strawberry margarita was so sickening sweet, I could not drink it, and I love sweet drinks. My husband's regular margarita was so sour, he could not drink it! We ordered a little bit of everything, since we wanted to be sure to like something. Well, we liked nothing, absolutely nothing, except leaving. The ground beef tacos were so greasy and tasteless, and they added lettuce that looked like it sat around for a week. The guacamole tostada was the worst I've ever had. The guacamole had no taste, just chunks of avocado on beans on a stale tostada. The enchiladas, if that's what you call them, were chewy, tasteless, and made of white cheese. I asked for chili sauce, and all they did was put taco meat with their red sauce on it. They do not even make real chili. That's pitiful!! We tried a few other things, to our demise. We left and ended up eating Taco Casa, for our 20th anniversary, since that's the only place around that even resembles mexican food. Come to Texas, we have great mexican food!!

Awesome lunch fajita special. You know how most places just put lunch fajitas on a cold plate with some lettuce, rice and beans? Not this place. It was the full fajita skillet and spread for 6.99. It was enough for three people! You must try their queso..its wonderful. Service was spoty but everything else was great.

Very good and authentic Mexican food. We've had a place here at the lake for years and we've been looking for good Tex-Mex and we've finally found some. We had chicken enchiladas, beef tacos, and chicken fajitas. The fajitas were a little dry but otherwise everything was really good. Dessert was a cheesecake chimichanga and fried ice cream. The fried ice cream was yummy!! The cheesecake chimichanga was good too, although it tasted a little bit like the oil was just about ready to be replaced. Overall a great experience!! Very pleasantly surprised!

This breaks my heart.....I tried so much to give it a 5 star rating cause the Carnitas are Perfect.....Slow Cooked, Deep Fried. But thats it! The Rice is Terrible, the Tortillas Terrible, the Sour Cream Enchiladas.....Terrible. I could tell where they sacrifice quality in order to keep their food costs down. Look....in this tough market, you just dont mess with peoples food. If you continue being cheap to charge less, then your in a lose-lose situation. Please....improve! Being a very proud latino....I know Mexican Food. The Carnitas were so PERFECT that it broke my heart to see the rest of our order be wasted with poor ingredients. I wish I could teach my passion on quality with restaurant owners......QUALITY NOT QUANTITY will cause this restaurant to sink or swim. Take Pride in your food.....cause if you dont; it shows on the plate you serve.

We were traveling and checked my yelp to find a good Mexican food place!! Stopped in because of the reviews here, and we were not disappointed! Very good service and food. We ordered cheese enchiladas and chicken enchiladas. lacks a little in atmosphere, but was still very enjoyable. Mmmmm.

Try anything with their cheese sauce on it. I had the chicken enchilada special and it was great. Everything else came with the cheese sauce too, but it deserved to be on everything. Don't bother with the chips, but the salsa have a nice spice to it.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
