It was a cold and rainy evening in the Glass City. I had just grabbed Sincero B. from work, and as he hopped in the car he looks at me and asks, "Hungry?" I reply with a, "Yes", and thus began our journey to Amango, A Restaurant. When we wandered inside my buddy was greeted in an old school Italian way... "Hello. The usual spot? **insert your own imaginings here**." It was just short of the ring kiss, haha! Anywho, we were seated, and placed our order with the server. My friend had his usual (Pho), and I grabbed some Pho with Beef Flank and Brisket. As I mentioned, it was cold, and would be ever so satisfying for such weather. That and when in a Vietnamese restaurant I make it my first dish. I also ordered the Vietnamese omelet (the real name fleets me). It would come mid main course as I had to remind our server, but as I was in no rush. It really wasn't a big deal for me. We were here for a nice long meal, and all the food that we ordered along with some great conversation made it exactly that, long. The food was good, and for Toledo great. I've traveled far and wide, and my palate has had some fantastique Pho experiences. The broth was very good, the noodles the same, and the normal trimmings were nice and fresh. Amango is good, and ranks up there amongst the above average. (My fave was once more challenged and not dethroned. It resides at a undisclosed location in ABQ. Not really, and if you really want to know just check my reviews.) The service was good, but my opinion might be skewed as my friend was a friend. So I must leave you to formulate your own when you visit. Amango was quite fitting on that dreary night in Toledo. We had some tasty and hot Pho that evening, and the service was ideal. I'll be back when I'm home. If anything for the experience, or do I mean the memories? Hmm... I'll leave you to figure that one out.

The bún special bowl was great! The grilled meats were perfect, and the restaurant was clean and bright.

I realize a fourth update on Amango may seem ridiculous but I am really impressed with how their menu keeps changing and expanding. I don't visit often enough to understand how frequently things update but the fact that they had soft shell crab as an app was a pleasant surprise. It was a crab all chopped up before being fried, and it was a fun way to eat what is without a doubt one of my favorite proteins. I also tried a most delicious egg & sausage banh mi. It was a really unique combo of flavors, with savory and salty mixed with the tang and brightness of the cilantro and pickled veggies. The fried egg had a soft yolk and the sausage was cut lengthwise into a few spears that added a great subtle note. For a saturday lunch, the place was pretty empty. The service was great, and they've taken to projecting CNN on the back wall which added an oddly wonderful element. It's a one of a kind environment for a one of a kind menu in Toledo. Check it out if you haven't already.

Bahn mi. Delicious. Pad Thai. Rubbery, clumpy, and not filling. Spring roll. Also rubbery and only had lettuce and noodles in it. Service, it was not a good night for service. We got seated right away and then we had to wait for menus. The waitress was young and eager but everything was just off. Our plates were cleared while we were in the midst of eating. The spring rolls came out quick but then it took 25 mins for the pad Thai to come out and then another 10 mins for the Bahn mi. Entrees should come out at the same time. The kitchen was pretty hectic and there were many other tables experiencing issues. Moral of the story: Bahn Mi Take Out Only!

New menu coming soon. Tried a couple of the new dishes, all very good. There will be some variety with the new menu as well. Tried soft shell crab, which I recommend. Tried the chicken curry, very flavorful. Next is pineapple salad which was recommended next. Very excited and looking forward to trying some new dishes

I've read so much about this place and finally decided to stop in. Felt like having something different. And different I got. First of all let me tell you this. The owners/employees there are not welcoming at all! I mean they don't smile. Throw things at the table. And the attitude... I was shocked. But don't let that stop you from coming back. Why? The food was good and fresh, it also came quick. In my opinion you work for your tip. You're rude, you don't get one. But we still left one, just because she still waited on us. Anywho, don't want to go off topic. The menu was authentic. Had a wide variety of noodle, rice, pho dishes... Amongst other things. I'll review what we ordered. Spring roll: not very authentic. Little dry. Missing more basil and mint, and the vermicelli they used was too thick. The peanut sauce was tasty. It was ok, but not as good as it should be. Plus it's a bit smaller than the average spring roll. Calamari: this was actually pretty tasty. Tasted fresh but wasn't. It's your average rings of calamari that have been cut up. But they were breaded perfectly, seasoned well and the chili sauce complemented them well. It was good enough that we ordered a second plate while there. Kids loved them. Pho: ordered the shrimp one. Shrimps were fresh. Large. And perfectly cooked. Good amount of noddles. Flavor was good (but then that depends on how you put it together). The sauces were at the table. The dish was for $9. To me that was not a $9 pho. I'd probably order it again if I really had a taste for it. But other than that I thought it was over priced. Banh mi: got the chicken. This was very tasty. Fresh, flavorful and the perfect amount. Chicken was perfectly marinated. The bread was crunchy and chewy. The pickled daikon and carrots looked like a lot at first, but trust me they weren't. Definitely getting this again. Cleanliness: not bad. No problems here. Food: I'd give them an A Price: a little on the pricey side, but many options on the menu to make it more affordable. This place will be one of my go to restaurants in Toledo. Highly recommend that you try it. Again, don't let the service bother you. You're there for the food :)

I'm so happy I found this gem! For starters, let me say, that I am a HUGE fan of Vietnamese food. I love the freshness & simplicity of the cuisine. I was very skeptical at first because I come from California where you could get the best of every type of cuisine out there. So yes, naturally I was judgmental. I came here with my friend because, according to her, it's the best pho in town. She wasn't lying. I then rekindled my love for pho and started coming here on a consistent basis. I love their pho with rare steak but recently I've been having Rocky put tendon in there for me and it sent me over the moon! The tendon added such a rustic flavor which I love! Takes me back to eating caldo de res at home . Their service is excellent & you could tell they take pride in their dishes. Presentation is always immaculate. We've had the spring rolls with the peanut sauce (so good), quail, fried rice, pad Thai & a dry noodle dish with chicken which was also delicious. The only negative thing I'd have to say is that their drink selection is terrible and you'd have to pay $2 for a can of soda. But, if you're adventurous, try it! You won't be disappointed. I take my 9 hr old stepdaughter here for pho and she loves it! It's quite a sight to see (:

I normally rate restaurants based on whether I would go back. In this case, the quality of the food was fantastic... but I wouldn't go back due to my experience here. My husband and I ate at Amango shortly after they opened. We tried the pho, the bun (vermicelli), and an appetizer, all of which were delicious (although my bun could have been a larger portion). When my mother came to visit from out of state, we brought her to Amango. She had one of the more generic Asian-fusion type dishes, I had a delicious but forgettable entree, and my husband got the pho again, and we all shared a banh mi sandwich. Near the end of our meal, as he was dredging the bottom of his soup bowl for tasty bits, my husband found a very un-tasty bit: a bug. It happens. It's skeezy, but it happens. What we didn't appreciate was the reaction of the staff to his discovery. The waitress just happened to be passing by about five seconds after he scooped up the bug and realized what he was looking at. My husband held up his spoon and showed her the bug, and she jumped back before she realized that it was a dead bug. Then she seemed suspicious, asking how it was that he didn't find the bug until he was almost done with his bowl of soup -- implying that he planted the bug to avoid paying for a $10 bowl of soup. We never asked for anything for free; we just brought the bug to her attention. She did come back and let us know that the pho would be removed from the bill, which we appreciated... but the initial attitude and distrust was not appreciated. So, was the food good? Yes. Would we go back? Right now, the answer is no.

I haven't had a bad meal yet. While I like the pho, the "dry" noodle dishes are my favorite! The calamari appetizer is always welcome at our table. Crispy spring rolls are also an excellent start. I've yet to try a bahn mi, but they look rather tasty.

Overall, the best Vietnamese food in Toledo. Banh mi is worth the trip. Pho is good but always seems to lack the right amount of noodles.

Its Pho and its pretty good. The service is super fast (though I was the only person in the restaurant). Good for a craving but not good enough to be a destination.

I've eaten here enough times that it warrants a review. Let me start by saying I LOVE their food, especially the bánh mì. I've ordered these sandwiches from Chicago to San Francisco and theirs are up to par. Their calamari is also some of the tastiest I've had. And if you don't care to lay wide awake at night or induce palpitations, order the vietnamese coffee (Highly recommended for the college crowd pulling all-nighters. Trust me, it's how I survived pharmacy school). The only reason I subtracted one star is because their service is inconsistent. The owners are always attentive but the staff itself is hit or miss. But like I said, I LOVE the food. I can pardon lack of attentiveness for a delicious meal.

Great Vietnamese food--had the vegetarian Pho, my new favorite soup, and the vegetarian stir-fry, which I could not finish after the delicious Pho filled me up. Would be great when sick with a cold!

Where do I start. Very casual atmosphere, very comfortable. I went for lunch; ordered the Calamari, which was very good and fresh; so good we ordered a second serving. The spring rolls were leathery and not very tasty. The shrimp pho was tasty but for $9, I'm not sure id order it again. My wife had one of the sandwiches which I found to be very good. I want to say the service wasn't good because the waitress seemed a bit gruff, but she was very attentive and made no mistakes so we were satisfied. Bottom line for what I listed plus two cans of soda, we spent $36. Not a great value; but, it was for the most part tasty. You can make up your own mind. If you've got that much to spend, I'm not sure you couldn't find a better place to have lunch, but if you are comfortable with that price, give it a try.

Almost turned away when I got to the location... Glad I closed my eyes and walked right in. This restaurant is worthy of a better location not to mention more approcheable staff. Place was rather empty and service almost too quick. Fully loaded Pho made it to my table and everything looked picture perfect with sprouts, cilantro and lime condiments. The bowls are on the large side and nicy filled with the right ratio of noodles, meat and broth (The latest could use deeper flavors). Will definitly come back for more. The dinning area is clean, menu interesting and made me forget how poor I rated those other Pho locations in the area.

  • Tim B.

Wow, I am shocked at the high rating of this place. Perhaps I happened to dine on an "off day for the establishment." The 2 star rating is generous and accredited to the diversity and variety of the menu. In addition, the restaurant seemed fairly clean. With that being said, the waitress was extremely clueless. Her knowledge of the menu was virtually non-existent. At this point I don't even recall what I ordered in terms of food. That clearly indicates that it was not memorable at all. The flavors were extremely bland and basic. I am sorry, but this was not great by any means.

Come here every time I visit my family up north. Food is always great and the owners are super friendly. My parents have been here so much that they practically have became friends with them! Best VN food in the area hands down. They have definitely amped up their food presentation too! Tasty food and beautiful presentation.

This is literally the worst restaurant I've ever eaten in. I was so excited to try Vietnamese food and very disappointed. The service was terrible. The waiter acted like we were inconveniencing him by even coming in there. We were the only customers, there was loud annoying music. I tried to order a beer and he said it was warm. I tried to order another and he brought me a beer that i could not open without a bottle opener and disappeared. The food was inexpensive but hard to gulp down. Came out ridiculous fast, which worried instead of impressed me. He cleared the beer and food BEFORE we were even done in a hurry to get us out even though they weren't closing for at least a half an hour. I will never go back, this place won't be in business long treating customers that way.

Finally we have a place for great Pho in Toledo! We had everything from barbeque pork sandwich to curry to pho, each equally delicious. This place just opened and is getting its legs. Great service. Check them out.

It's nice to have a quality Vietnamese restaurant in Toledo with vegetarian options. I had the veggie pho and they have Vietnamese sandwiches. The price is a little higher than what I'm used to in California but I'm willing to fork out a few extra bucks for having access. My other half had pork and seafood pho and he loved it. We'll definitely be going back!

It's been over 2 months since I've first been to this place when it opened and I've been back at least once a week since. Price is avg, the food is great. When the restaurant was first advertised they used the name Saigon Pho but couldn't find them until I called and found out that Amango and Saigon Pho is the same place. Opened as a new restaurant (originally Charlie's) Amango brings in a new flavor to the area. Tho not quite authentic as the Vietnamese restaurants that I've been to in West Coast, this place is palatable enough. I've seen a lot of people interested in trying out the cuisine but they are too picky to not try the original ingredients. People who hate onions... don't even try this place. Not that they cannot make your order as you like it but come on now.. onion is a key ingredient in most asian cooking. The Banh Mi are awesome. And quite a great selection of Pho. My favorite is the Pho Dac Biet. Currently they do not serve any alcohol but they will soon as promised to me by Alicia. My picky niece even love their Pad Thai, she's ordered it for lunch numerous times. Been here at least 10x since it opened. I try a different dish everytime I visit. This is better than nothing. I'd recommend this to my friends.

I'm so happy to have discovered a place in Toledo with decent Vietnamese cuisine. Everything here I've had here is great. The spring rolls and the vermicelli noodle bowls are the best. The service can be a little slow and inattentive at times, but for me that's part of the experience of an authentic pho house.

wow! I had no idea that it would be this good. We had reserved a table for 10 and only five came. The restaurant was incredibly accommodating and pleasant. We are a vegetarian group and they went above and beyond in an effort to make sure we had what we needed. Food was very good tasting and even better looking.Everyone at the table ended up taking pictures of all the food. The food was all fresh and flavorful. I really can't say enough good things about it. I will be back, frequently!

This is my favorite place in Toledo for Pho! I order from here almost every week, so I figured I should write a review. I get the seafood pho which is enough for 2 meals and I order the spring rolls! I absolutely love this place!

Very impressed on the first trip to Amango. The pho was phantastic! I'm not super experienced with pho, but I'd say it's the best I've had in town. Tofu & veggie dish with white rice was fresh and delicious too, as were the lettuce wraps with a tasty marinated chicken. We'll definitely be going back soon. Tip: Put lots of Hoisin sauce on everything. Also, they have Bud Light bottles in a cooler.

When husband and wife team Tim and Q learned the former Charlie's location on Monroe Street, just east of Talmadge Road, was available they jumped at the chance to take it and open a Vietnamese and Asian restaurant. Putting all of their resources into securing the location, they quickly opened Amango Restaurant/Pho Saigon for business with a lighted sign and low priced grand opening specials. This is not a Vietnamese theme restaurant with a Buddhist altar, conical straw hats, incense, and waitresses in au dai (Vietnamese costume). It is not intended to transport you to a dated version of Vietnam designed specifically for Western tourists. Amango is simple and functional. Keep your eyes on the food and your mind on the flavors and you will be magically transported to the humble atmosphere of a restaurant for locals in contemporary Vietnam. On my first visit, I ordered the banh xeo/sizzling pancake appetizer. This dish is a great example of the effect French colonialism had on the Vietnamese kitchen. It gets its name from the sound of the batter sizzling on the pan as it is prepared. Banh xeo is essentially a French crepe filled with onion, shrimp, and seasoned pork. It is accompanied by a plate of fresh mint sprigs plus a few leaves of curly lettuce. Want to eat banh xeo like a native? Use your hands! Grab a leaf of lettuce, put in a few mint leaves and a piece of the filled crepe. Then roll up the lettuce leaf like a burrito, while keeping the contents inside, and dip it into the accompanying fish sauce before you take your first bite. While I prefer a thinner pancake with more filling, Amango's banh xeo is a good choice of appetizer to introduce a newcomer to Vietnamese cooking. Order one for the table. It's big enough for a family of four. Don't tell your kids the name of the sauce until after they've dunked their first roll and taken a bite. They'll love it. Another popular Vietnamese appetizer on the menu is the spring rolls ($3.95). This is a delicious way to cool off during this summer's heat wave. It's a chilled, soft, paper thin rice pancake filled with cooked vermicelli, mint leaves, chilled shrimp, and shredded lettuce. Amango is serving it with Thai peanut sauce instead of a Vietnamese sauce. The good news is that the table is stocked with hoisin sauce, red chili sauce and soy sauce you can use to enhance the flavor. We requested hot chili oil (tia chiev sate) and ignored the peanut sauce entirely. There are three rolls in an order. Your server will be happy to bring you a serrated knife to halve the rolls and create six hearty portions. At lunchtime, I highly recommend ordering the goi ga/chicken salad ($7.99). The salad is a zesty mix of shredded chicken, carrots, lettuce, celery, cabbage, mint, and chopped peanuts tossed with rice wine vinaigrette. It is presented with a plate of lime wedges and sliced jalapeno peppers that you may use to season your salad to taste. The most well-known Vietnamese dish is pho (pronounced "fur"). Pho is a sweet and savory beef broth served with noodles and a variety of meats, fish or vegetarian ingredients. The Vietnamese tend to eat pho for breakfast. It is served with a plate of bean sprouts, Asian basil leaves and lime wedges. Squeeze the lime wedges over your soup and toss in some sprouts and basil before you eat it. The table sauces at Amango are handy for adding additional spice. Drop by after 10am on Saturday or noon on Sunday and discover the healing properties of a bowl of pho. It will quickly become your preferred morning remedy for a hangover or the common cold. With the modest prices and an extensive menu, I found myself going back again and again to Amango over the course of a week just to check out more of the entrees I previously enjoyed in Vietnam. The bun tom thit nuong cha gio/vermicelli with grilled pork, shrimp and an egg roll ($8.99) is probably the best choice for people who want to get a feel for Vietnamese food but prefer more familiar ingredients. It is served with a sweet and sour sauce that you can add a little bit at a time until you like the balance of flavor and moisture on your noodles. If you're familiar with Vietnamese food and know what you like, you will be delighted with Amango. If you've never had this type of cuisine, give it a chance. There are many options, so with a little persistence, you are sure to find a dish or two you really like. Alex, a waiter and friend of the owners, can be trusted to make a solid recommendation in any section of the menu. Don't be afraid to ask for him if you get a server who doesn't speak much English. On the same token, if you can't bring yourself to spend any time in an Asian restaurant without a pond full of koi fish and tacky paper lanterns; rent a DVD copy of "Indochine" or "The Quiet American" and order carry-out. Amango is too good to miss.

Good try! From the set up, I can definitely tell the owner is trying to establish an authentic Pho place like the ones I'm familir at West Coast. But once you start ordering and tasting the food, it's far from authentic. The meat is not fresh, while the soup base is serviceable. The rice dishes are not very attractive, and the mango slush was filled with ice cubes. We are very experience pho diners, due to the fact it's all over southern california and Las Vegas, and this one would totally be forgotten or out of business if it opened there. However, it gets a 2 star here in Toledo. For trying, at least... and I'm pretty sure if you're really craving for Pho, this place is alright for the location you're at.

When I heard about this pho restaurant that was supposedly better than the one on Upton St, I decided to try it with my wife as pho is one of my favorite foods to eat. I was expecting some good tasting stuff, but it came out with a ramen tasting broth which is ok because I like ramen, but pho shouldn't have tasted like that. The broth is relatively dark which indicates a worse tasting broth, imho. The service and speed was faster than the other restaurant which is a plus. If this was the only pho restaurant in town, I would go here, but that's not the case. The decor is definitely better but I don't care about restaurant decor as indicated my review for the other pho restaurant. My wife does not agree with me as she thinks it was one of her worse experiences eating pho.

My family and I are pho fanatics we've had it everywhere so when we found out Amango opened we were excited to check it out. Kinda disappointing. Nothing special about it. Flavor was a little lacking. I also ordered the pork bahn mi....the pork smelled like it was sitting out for a while. But the bread was pretty good! The vegetable stir fry was plain cold mush. Service was terrible. Messed up our checks three times.

I'm sorry but if you think that their pho is good, you haven't had good pho. There's was not tasty as compared to others that I've had and I've had a lot from different restaurants. We ordered 3 different bowls of pho, a tofu and veg dish, summer roll, and a sandwich on somesort of hoagie bun. The pho tasted sour.. not good. The tofu dish was cold and the vegetables tasted like canned veggies. The summer roll sauce was fish sauce which I personally didn't like (i like the peanut sauce better) and the summer roll had basil leaves which I thought was wayyy too overpowering. The sandwich was decent, wasn't that bad, the bread was really good. The service was bad, the waitress was helped by another waiter and they both seemed to forget to bring us multiple things when we told each of them. He overcharged us TWICE after telling him the first time. He was also very frazzled and sweating which made the dining experience not so fun. The only reason why I gave them two stars was that even though the service was bad they were both really nice. But I wouldn't come back here again :/

We frequent this restaurant a lot; but the quality of service and food has gone down dramatically recently. Our service was poor last time; but we decided to give it one more shot as it's the only place with phô in the area. The spring rolls have become very small lately. They resembled cigars, not spring rolls. Even my phô tasted mediocre. Our server disappeared for 25 minutes! Only for us to see her walk back in the front door with her purse a around her shoulder. Apparently, she had ran to the gas station while she had two tables!!! I know this bc I heard her say so to the cook! Who does that?!?! Because she had to run an errand, I had to wait an additional 25-30 mins to have my food packed, pay my bill and go run my own errands which I now fell behind on. I will never go back to this restaurant again. Thankfully, I've learned how to make my own epic spring rolls and phô.

I really enjoy the pho and the fried calamari. It never seems to be too crowded or noisy and the prices are fair

After several stops here, I can sum it all up in one sentence: The food (taste, presentation, etc.) is fantastic, but the service is hit or miss. And yes, they do have beer!

It was a cold, blistery, winter night when I first went to Amango. No joke...there was a blizzard out on a Friday night, and there I was...a young lady in her late 20s walking into the restaurant alone. I just really wanted pho. And it's very difficult for me to walk into a Vietnamese restaurant without ordering banh me on top of that pho. So I did what anyone would do and got both. I don't remember the exact numbers of my order but I got the pho special with everything in it (#11 or #84?). And the combination or pork banh mi. I would also HIGHLY recommend the lemongrass tofu (SO GOOD) and the calamari. Their version of a "Vietnamese chopped salad" was also pretty divine. Will definitely return! And on service...I've been here 3 times and I feel like it's gotten better each time. I think each waiter should know every single menu item like the back of their hand. There were a couple of times when i asked the waiter something and they had to go ask someone else. At least...now I know what I want! Will try the coffee next (with my giant solo meal) per Amy N!

This restaurant is on the fence, it has great food but the atmosphere leaves a bit to be desired. It's odd when a restaurant has a giant projector playing "pawn stars" behind you at full volume. However I guess the food made up for it. I would make this more friendly in the atmosphere but for now, i guess this place is alright. Check it out.

Compared to all other Vietnamese restaurants in the world, this would probably be a 3 to 3.5 star experience but compared to the other Asian restaurants in this general vicinity of Toledo, Amango would be a 5 star choice. If you are new to Vietnamese cuisine in general, this is the place you want to go first. The ambiance and decor of this place are generically Asian, nothing too out of the ordinary, booths are fine and overall everything about this place is unassuming. The service was good- I was in after the lunch rush on my way to a meeting and I was craving Bun Vermicelli, which is what I got- the house special was 8.95 with shrimp, egg roll and pork. It came out hot, fast and delicious. The fish sauce was actually quite a stand out as well. A table next to me got Pho and it looked delicious as well. The pork itself was grilled perfectly and had a nice portion. Only got one egg roll cut into fourths which was slightly disappointing as other places offer more in the way of toppings. But the veggies and the bun itself were perfectly executed. Above all, I would come here again in a heartbeat, and I may next month, the next time I am in Toledo, to just try the Banh Mi- maybe a Banh Mi and some bun! As a connossieur of everything that is Vietnamese, I would make this a must try for anyone wishing to give Pho or Bun a try. Not as good as my mother's, but it's pretty damn close. Highly reccommend!
