I visited this place for lunch today. On Tuesdays they have chicken and ground beef tacos for $1.00. Their salsa is chunky and very flavorful. I also really liked their queso dip. Sonia was our waitress she was polite and a lot of fun. She recommended the mango strawberry margarita which was very good but pricy... $30 for a pitcher. Overall, great experience!

Nope. Never again. We stay in Port Clinton on weekends during the summer and we decided to try this place instead of the usual hangouts. It's very close to cedar point, and it's been around for a while, so it seemed like a good choice. I really wanted to like it. 1) the house margarita is watered down to the point it's white like shaved ice. No flavor. 2) our server has no answer to any question we asked 3) they served us 12 dollar salads with no dressing. When we asked for the specific dressing that's supposed to go on or specialty salad, we were told that they were out. 4) when I also told the manager that my salad tasted like dirty iceberg lettuce, she gave a sarcastic response that it's actually romaine... When someone is telling you that they're eating dirty lettuce in their restaurant, it really shouldn't matter what kind it is. 5) the lettuce is important because that's all three salad was... A bowl of plain, bagged lettuce. 6) my toddlers kids meal was microwaved on the plate that they brought it out on, which was scalding hot... She sat it down right in front of him with no warning. 7)I couldn't cut up his meal because they had no silverware. It took another 10 minutes to get some. 8) they don't have changing tables in their bathrooms. Don't go here.. Especially if you're a family. It's a joke. Update: later that evening, everyone in our group that ordered pulled pork threw up for hours. Avoid this gross place at all costs.

Gets two stars because you can ride up to it from the water. Outside of that it was somewhat of a disappointment. We were just there for drinks and an appetizer as we were out on the water. We sat down and took a minute to get a pitcher of margaritas. No big deal. The margarita wasn't that good. It didn't taste like much other than lime flavored shaved ice. The flavor was weak. We finished our pitcher (a table of 6 of us) we wanted to order another round. We waited a minute for our server to come around again. She didn't so we tried to flag down another waiter but were ignored. Since we had already paid and no one seemed to be so concerned about serving us further in the mostly empty establishment (it was 1:30pm on a Friday) we simply left.

    The place rated almost 5 stars until the little issue cropped up with the bill. First I should do them justice with a good review of the food. Wednesday is burger day; a 1/2lb burger for $4 and another buck for an order of tasty fries. My wife had the fish tacos which were equally good but a bit more pricey at over $10. NP problem but beware when ordering and make sure you're not paying for things like onions on the side. Trivial but it's the thought of the matter. Otherwise, nice and novel view of the waterfall. This place was actually once a mill. Ask for the special during the week and this restaurant goes from a $$ to a $. Compliment this post if it helps you, please. (It'll prompt me to post more reviews) :-;

If ya like way too tan, middle-aged white folks who watch WAY to much Sons Of Anarchy, sit on the patio. The sell T-shirts to go with your 30 dollar Harley, officially licensed bandana. I would rather suck the fart out of the winner of a chili dog eating champion....so we sit inside instead. Out back they have a cool waterfall and the aforementioned white rebels can even pull jet skis up to the back patio. Be prepared to have people putting on shirts and changing clothes in the tiny bathroom with people who are just there to dine. Food is basic but good. Reminds me of a tourist chain restaurant that you would find in Myrtle Beach or something. Drinks were pretty inventive but 8 bux and served in a tiny jelly jar. The mason/jelly jar thing has to stop. They also have live bands every time we go. God I just love hearing "Twilight Zone" by Golden Earring sung by a guy in a sleeveless Budweiser shirt....MURICA!

My second visit since the new menu. The combo platter of smoked brisket and pulled pork was delectable. Both were tender, moist and flavorful, no sauce needed but the North Carolina sauce was unique and my favorite. The coleslaw had a nice crunch with just the right amount of dressing, obviously fresh made. Jody, at the bar, is a gem and provides outstanding service. Her handmade cucumber cilantro margarita is outstanding.

Fun time.Food was awesome. The deck was great.Margaritas were not good tasted like lemonaide. With a name like Margaritaville you would think they would have a better drink. they need to work on them, not worth the money. Rode the harley ,great destination ride. we will be back.Inside is nice too.

The setting is very nice. There's a view of a lovely waterfall and a creek from the lower level restaurant. The upper level bar looks like fun for the adult crowd. The waitress was very accommodating in allowing me to order one side split with beans and rice for our toddler. It was the perfect size. The kids meal ordered by another member of our party would have been too big for our toddler. The other kid in our party really liked their kids meal of chicken fingers. My friend and I both had a taco salad. It was great except it could have used some type of dressing. We ended up requesting some normal dressing (ranch) but something like a chipolte would have been better. The food was good and the price was ok. Our waitress was very nice and accommodating to our needs with the kids. She also answered questions about their tshirts they had for sale. There were a lot to choose from. My only issue is that the restaurant only had two stalls in the ladies room. Both were occupied by "sick" girls. Needless to say I opted to leave and use a facility at our next stop.

Beautiful location by a waterfall, but the dining area screams America, not Mexico. I'd swear there was lemon in the beans. Everyone was a bit disappointed in the food. On the other hand the drinks were terrific and the service quick. They were offset by day-old, overly salted chips. Would recommend for the margueritas, but not the food

Haven't been here in a while so thought we would stop in. Place is better now than in years past. Service was a little slow for not being busy....but was okay. The wife and I both enjoyed our meals....not the greatest...but not the worse we have ever had....but good. Wife wanted an overpriced shirt which almost cost as much as our meals combined. Still enjoy the waterfall...and staff was friendly. Will go back again....so not all bad.

My review is for the restaurant portion. First off, they bring you chips and salsa to start with. The chips are from a bag but the salsa is decent. However, make sure you pay attention to the menu because they are not totally free. The restaurant gives you the first bowl for free and then will charge for them after that. There is no more unlimited chips and salsa. We ordered a half pitcher of watermelon margaritas, steak chimichanga, a beef chimichanga, a chicken chimichanga, and chicken nachos. The margarita was the only winner tonight. The nachos tasted like they came out of the microwave and were so soggy and foul that we sent them back. The beef chimi smelt like dog food and was only able to be consumed after being doused in hot sauce. The other two meals were extremely lackluster and were half eaten. This place is a tourist trap for sure. The bar outside seemed to be fun hangout spot and had a good band but we will not be back for food anytime soon.

Awesome summer hang out! Since the new owners have taken over, the atmosphere has changed for the better. I'll be going back for sure.

First off - this Margaritaville has nothing to do with the chain restaurant called Jimmy Buffet's Margaritaville. This seems to be locally owned. I stopped here with my family for lunch on a weekday in late August, so it was pretty empty. They say they get really busy during high season (summer, because of Cedar Point, and one week in June, because of Bike Week). The main restaurant is indoors (inside, down the stairs, looking out at a waterfall) and there is a deck out front. They say they don't have a license to serve food there but you can order from the bar downstairs and bring your own food outside. We sat inside, in the back room overlooking the waterfall. The restaurant has a down and out dump kind of vibe, but someone in my family had heard good things about it so we tried it out. The service was extremely friendly, chips and salsa were pretty good (and plentiful) and the margaritas weren't bad. The food was definitely edible but that's about it. I would call this a fun place to go for drinks, nothing more. Not recommended for actual food.

The cons you will experience if you choose to dine here (there are no pros, by the way); 1. There is no affiliation with Jimmy Buffet's Margaritaville. Don't expect quality. 2. It is not a "waterfront" dining experience. Unless you consider a man-made waterfall to be waterfront. 3. You cannot eat on the deck (which is the main attraction) unless you want to order takeout and then sit up there. Weird. 4. Do not expect your appetizer to arrive in a timely manner or for that matter, to arrive before your meal. 5. The food.... Is bland. And will give you the trots. I can make better quality at home.... That will not give me or my friends the trots. So yeah, don't go here. Margaritaville = .

Fun restaurant with great food and beautiful scenery. Awesome margaritas and chips/salsa and guac, perch sandwich and corn on the cob!

Terrible food Worst fajitas I have ever had. Rolled up the sidewalks and the service once Labor Day passed. Good for a beer on a hot summer day. Period.

  • Teresa Y.

Our waitress Jodee was clueless and unfriendly. The pulled pork, brisket and wings were really good but they need to figure out how to make side dishes. The cole slaw bought pre-made and baked beans tasted like they opened a can of pork and beans tasteless. The salsa was terrible no taste. Don't think the smoked meats will make us come back. Asked about the $2 charge for baked beans and argued that she told me there was an up charge for the crapy baked beans.

Best summer hangout in Sandusky hands down. The deck is huge and always a fun time! The new owner gave the place a much needed facelift while keeping its identity we all know and love. The new menu including every smoked meat under the sun and the once afterthought of a restaurant downstairs is a complete 180. The menu is creative without being pretentious..just really damn good Mexican food and margaritas. You can't beat that view of the waterfall from any seat in the restaurant as well. Will definitely be back.

Was here the other day and the new owners have done an amazing job!!! The remodel in the dining room is fantastic and so fresh!! The signature margaritas are WOW! The strawberry Siracha marg is spicy and sweet and so great and new! The food is a ten out of ten. The new menu is great and the new food. Wow. Try the corn. Try the new guacamole. Try it all!!!!

I've been here a few times and I agree the waterfall is awesome. We sat at the bar inside thinking the service would be good but it wasn't. The bartender was also waitressing on the floor so I sat for at least ten minutes with an empty glass. That's just revenue the owners are losing. Chips and salsa were awesome. I wanted more salsa which costs $1.50, but the waitress/bartender disappeared and never even offered a refill. So again more revenue lost. I usually tip 20% or more but this time I only tipped 15% due to the slow service.

Food wasn't great. The biggest ripoff ever! They charge for everything! Anything you need extra gets charged! We got the nachos and it came with the smallest amount of cheese a few jalapeños some lettuce and like 5 pieces of chicken, they stacked up the chips though... So it was basically a plate of chips. It was very disappointing to say the least! And they lost 2 customers! We will not be back!

The food here is always great, the enchiladas, salad bowls and chimichangas were all delicious. The place has expanded over the years and there's a large deck to eat at outside. They serve you unlimited chips and salsa. The major negative was the 1 hour wait for the food, which the server apologized for. I would go back!

HUGE improvement since the Cleat's owners took over. Cleaner, fresher food, more upbeat service, and wonder of wonders food served on the deck. This is THE best deck in Sandtown during the summer. Better margaritas, better TexMex, and the smoked meats are terrific. Even Jimmy Buffet would like it if his lawyers would let him go here!

As you can see by this one star review that our visit to this location left much to be desired. Our waitress was spectacular and very friendly, and was the best part of our experience. First off, we ordered two pitchers of beer. The pitchers ended up being 15$ a pitcher, regardless of whether it was bud light or a nicer beer (which there is little selection of). My aunt bought a small margarita that ended up being 7$ and change. The complementary chips and salsa left much to be desired, and we politely declined a refill of chips as they were 2.50$. I ordered their bacon mushroom burger medium well that was listed at 9.99$. I received a tomato that was wimpy and covered maybe a quarter of the burger, but when I asked for more tomatoes our waitress was happy to oblige free or charge. The burger itself was very tasty and the bun was good quality. Other people in our party of 8 enjoyed their food but did not feel like it was authentic Mexican and we were not impressed. When we first sat we were chilly and asked to be moved to the other half of their restaurant with a better view. The manager at the time was rude and told us it was closed off, although there was another party dining in that portion of the restaurant. Our waitress tried her best to make us comfortable and turned the fans off. If I had the option to return to this location I would decline because of their alcohol prices and their less than authentic food.

I cannot even give our meals last evening one star. The meal started with chips and salsa with the chips basket having some fresh chips mixed with some very stale ones. And the salsa was the worst I have ever had with a consistency more like pasta sauce with no flavor. Then we got our meals and it only went down from there...price and size plus my chicken burrito had only 5 small pieces of chicken...seriously I counted them. Too many vegetables for an entree of $10+. And others complained the Margarita had little taste even after agreeing to add a $1 more for better Tequila. This IS NOT what this restaurant USED to be....it is awful food d drinks with a lovely remodel. Too bad they didn't remodel the cook. Save your time and money. Don't waste either time or money

This place is great. It is a great place to stop and have a drink and good food. I was there during bike week and the place was packed but service at th e bars and restaurant were fast. Everyone of the staff I interfaced with had great attitudes. Th ok s is a must stop for me whenever I am in the area.

This is a solid 2 and half star place. The best thing about it is the location. I had veggie quesadillas, and they weren't too bad. My hubby had mini chicken tacos, and he was expecting something different than what he got. They were just frozen tacos that were deep fried. The service was ok, but not the quickest. We left before getting a second round since it took so long for the bartender to get back to us to ask us if we wanted another drink.

Came here for a friend's 30th birthday- surprised to find it to be a Mexican restaurant- but pleasantly surprised! :) Indoor decor was alright; pretty divy. It's tucked away too so you probably wouldn't find it unless someone recommended it to you! Not much of a view, but neat background story. Food: Chips and Salsa- chips tasted like they came from a grocery store (most Mexican restaurants make their own), but the salsa was good and the chips were edible. I ordered the Chicken and Steak combo fajitas and they were pretty tasty! Margaritas- birthday girl hated hers; mine was tolerable only because I ordered salt on the rim! Birthday girl later had a Grasshopper and said it was delicious so it made up for the first bad drink! Service: Tiffany was our server and she was friendly. She came when we needed her and didn't overwhelm our stay. She was fast and efficient. All in all it was an alright tourist attraction of Sandusky, Ohio. Nothing to write home about, but nothing to complain about either. :)

I was surprised to read some not so good reviews about this place! My husband and were visiting from NY, saw it and decided to stop. From the moment we arrived to the moment we left we were blown away! We met Bob the owner while he was taking out the trash. When u see the owner of a place working harder than everyone else u know its a great place. The whole staff was very friendly and accommodating. The place goes on and on, it's huge. The best part is the outdoor patio over the waterfall. Overall it's a wicked awesome place!!! We most definitely will be back for a visit to "the original margaritaville"

Was very disappointed with the food, I ordered the Seafood Enchiladas and instead of everything being piping hot it was lukewarm and didn't have much taste. My husband ordered the Perch Tacos and I thought they were lacking flavor as well. Even my watermelon margarita wasn't very good. We haven't been here for years, since they changed owners, I won't be coming back anytime soon!

We drove by this place looking for a gas station to fuel up. I just had to stop. Amazingly good margarita, not too sweet and certainly not weak. The service was great, very friendly bartender, don't know her name but she had pink hair. Cool live band. Beautiful sunny day, we sat outside on one of the decks. Of note, very clean place. It's clearly a biker bar but not intimidating at all. Everyone was friendly except for some older big couple who took a pic if us, without our permission, while cackling and announcing it was being posted to FB. There are always creeps out there, right? Wish we could have hung out but this was a day trip to enjoy Lake Erie. Go there on a summer day for an awesome margarita!

I am not usually one to complain about service, especially to go as far as writing a review about it, but I would really like to warn people... There were 4 of us, yesterday (Wednesday night) around 7:30pm. The place wasnt even crowded, but it took 7 minutes for us to hunt someone down to seat us. We ordered a pitcher of margaritas and 4 waters. Our margarita pitcher came out 10 min later. I had to remind her about the waters and she gave me this distressed look and said "Im working on it". By the time our waters came, our pitcher was gone and all of our glasses were empty. I figured since we had been there for 25 minutes already, and hadnt even ordered our food yet, I would just go to the bar and order us a few beers. There were quite a few people there; I ordered 4 beers, and after she took my order, closed out someone elses check, she decided she would go to the other side of the bar and chit chat with her friends rather than getting my beers. Five minutes later I finally got them. I got the taco salad supreme. It was very bland. Also - BEWARE. Only one basket of chips is free! She brought us another basket, and didnt bother to tell us that. It was a very expensive meal and NOT WORTH IT AT ALL. If you expect even mediocore service, I would definitely suggest you go elsewhere.

  • Adam M.

Nachos were a tad stale, chipotle wings were amazing, could only taste lime juice in the margarita, frozen strawberry margaritas are ok, piña colada was decent.

    (3)
  • J T.

It would've be best to leave zero stars but can't. Terrible service that looked like they don't care, frozen food heated in a microwave, bagged nacho chips, canned tomatoes... Unbelievable they would use those. Will never return and will also not be quiet about it. Drinks were bland and watered down. If you are a tourist to the area DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME going here like we did. Most awful experience I have ever had in a restaurant.

  • Matt S.

I wanted to walk out of this dump as soon as I walked in and I wish I did,the chips and dip is not only obviously store bought but is disgusting, the food is bland and makes you feel sick to your stomach, the only thing worse is the service,if your not a regular there they completely ignore you. How could I forget it does have what they call a waterfall but its just a 5 ft drop with the fat locals fishing beneath it,it was a huge disappointment

A trip to Sandusky just isn't complete without a stop at Margaritaville. In all honesty, if you come here looking for authentic Mexican food, you deserve to be let down. However, if you're looking for cheap Mexican, lots of options, plenty of booze and a side of sketch, this is the place for you, my friend! Unlimited chips and salsa too! YES

Used to go here all the time when the old owners had this place a few years ago. We went here twice since new owners and both were horrible. The second was with about 15 people and the food so bad(beyond description) we haven't been back. They actually served us shrimp that seemed spoiled, my meal seemed to sit under heat lamp that the cheese on top was so hard I could hardly cut through it. We tried to get food redone but after waiting over an hour for the first round of horrible food and with the POOOOOR waitress we decided to leave most of our food on the table and leave. I stopped by Burger King I believe so I could eat because I was still hungary. I know alot of people like the outside bar and we've sat out there a few times in the past with good luck but we've just decided not to come here any longer.

Best thing about this place is sitting by the waterfall and watching the trout jumping in the water. Food is mediocre at best, prices are high. Service is so-so. Prompt, but not very friendly.

terrible service, food was cafeteria at best , biker friendly was the only good part, i can assure you i will not return , your seafood burrito was garbage !!!!!!!!!!!

Very good mexican food, although it was not authentic Mexican. My wife and I had the Shrimp and Chicken Fajita's, very good, was kind of dissapointed on the size of the shrimp used but was very plentyful and delicious. Nice place to see the trout flow over the waterfall and it would be great in the summer to sit on the deck. Meal for two only cost us $20.00, not including drinks. Overall a very nice place to go and the place looks awesome since the remodeling. Very clean and wait staff was very nice. Nice place to go even on a Sunday afternoon

Just go here for drinks and party on the patio with a live band. Food might be better after quite a few drinks....and then....anything tastes good...

It is OK Mexican food made by Americans using stuff bought in the grocery store "Latin" section. It is probably a great place to party and the food would be nice after a round or nine.

Now THIS is an Erie County institution! Margaritaville has a kind of sketchy reputation as a slightly boozy outpost for weekend dining. Ostensibly you are coming for the Tex-Mex food but everyone knows you are really coming to get loaded and possibly a little loud. They have a gigantic menu that covers the gamut from burgers to steaks with plenty of "Mexican" features named after Mexican cities or vaguely Western sounding places. The restaurant is perched on the banks of Cold Creek, fed by underground springs. The food is probably one of your better options here in Vacationland.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
