    I really wanted to like this place, I really did. First off, let's talk about the things that did work. The staff is friendly. The interior is contemporary, clever, and welcoming. In theory, the menu items sound delicious and are varied. On the first visit here, I ordered their Mediterranean half sandwich with a bowl of soup. The sandwich barely had anything on it, portioned out to be incredibly small, and, despite the skimpy filling, still managed to become slightly soggy. The minestrone soup was not terrible, I've certainly had better (I had actually ordered the corn chowder that was somehow sold out relatively early in the day). It was their first day, so I gave them the benefit of the doubt and returned two days later. I ordered the burrito bowl (I must have accidentally checked the wrong box in their ordering system, as I thought I wanted a standard burrito.) When I eventually received my order, an order that took longer than it should have, I realized that this place is going to have some severe problems. For the sake of coherency and my personal sanity, I will list the issues with this aforementioned burrito bowl: 1. It had no guacamole which I did specifically indicate I wanted. 2. When I asked to receive said guacamole on the side, I really wished I would have left that idea alone. The guacamole was nearly white, mixed with either sour cream or mayonnaise. Upon tasting it, it was immediately apparent that it came from a can or jar. Makes sense as the salsa was also store-bought. 3. The salad was comprised of pre-shredded (as in bagged) iceberg lettuce, low quality pre-shredded (yep, bagged) cheese, the sauteed peppers & "caramelized" (also sauteed, not actually caramelized) onions were both undercooked and cold. 4. Most egregiously however was the dramatically undercooked rice that crunched like breakfast cereal and managed to get stuck in every fold and crevice in my mouth... including my teeth. 5. Actually, take back the previous most egregious.... The most egregious issue is that I somehow managed to plunk down the area of $17 on both of these meals. It's upsetting that a place with such promise and a nice concept can get so many things so wrong. This town is a veritable food desert as is, this could have been it's little oasis.... Hopefully they can get their act together because I'm certainly not going back until I hear about improvements.

    My friends, family and I have enjoyed Garage Cafe until...our last visit. All three of us had onions and strawberries that were for all intents and purposes..quite dead, feta cheese that was funky, barely any lettuce. My grandsons taco in a bowl was pre packaged chicken with an outrageous amount of chipotle seasonings and again barely any lettuce. I would hate for our area to lose this restaurant, but someone needs to take the menu in hand.

    I do not understand why a restaurant owner would go to such extreme lengths to create a restaurant with a wonderful atmosphere & menu, advertise the food as "fresh" and delicious, yet fail to follow through with those claims. I'm thoroughly disappointed. As a vegan, I become very excited when I see new places that have food I might be able to enjoy. There are very few in this area. I ordered a Mediterranean sandwich on my first visit to Garage Cafe. There is apparently hummus on this sandwich, however there was so little of it actually put onto the sandwich, I couldn't tell it was there. The prominent flavor profile was that of "caramelized" onions. Anyone who has had caramelized onions knows they turn a beautiful golden color and become very sweet. These onions were hardly sauteed and barely palatable. The other offenses committed by this sandwich include: hot, wilted ICEBERG lettuce (come on, who uses iceberg on a Mediterranean sandwich...how about arugula, baby greens?) and a scant portion size that was hardly appropriate for lunch, or for it costing 6 dollars. I decided to come back for a second visit a few days later, hoping it was just a fluke. I went for the burrito. How can a place possibly mess up a burrito if the ingredients are fresh? Well, the ingredients aren't all that fresh. First off, the guacamole was clearly jarred. I've unfortunately tasted premade Ortega brand guacamole many years ago, and this was a dead wringer. To my horror, this guacamole also clearly had milk products in it. As I said early, I am vegan. I assumed this would be fresh guacamole, with a handful of ingredients. If this was actually made in house, whoever made it needs to have their head checked. The salsa, too, clearly came from a jar. Don't forget about that delicious al dente rice, and the yummy cold grilled veggies. OH, and the gummy, so-wet-that-it-rips burrito shell. As you can tell, my experiences here were not pleasant. What angers me the most is the fact the word "fresh" is thrown around. I know when something is not fresh. I feel like this place is taking advantage of people who desperately want something new, healthy, and vibrant. I question if the owner(s) even fully understand what new, healthy, and vibrant is. Long story short: you are better off going to the Kroger a few blocks away, buying some ingredients, and cooking on your own. It will be better.

    I love market street cafe. However, it's very nice to have another option for a place to sit and have lunch that isn't fast food but still quick. Service is nice food is pretty good (southwest corn chowder) has been my favorite thing to eat. It actually tastes like real soup. They might be fooling me but it doesn't taste like it's from a can. Their sides that accompany the dishes could use a little work. That's the only complaint I could make.

    Meh is right... Second round at Garage Cafe, just to see if things have improved. I was still not satisfied with the restaurant, even though it has been a year since I last tried it! There are some pros. 1. Good prices 2. Pretty friendly service and 3. Nice bathrooms! The cons are that the food just isn't great. I've tried the rainbow salad and Mediterranean sandwich and both were under par. This restaurant has potential to be something, with their "paleo" and "vegetarian" ordeal, but they need to put more thought into it. This is one of the few "healthier" restaurants in the Portsmouth area, so if you are looking for that, then it's worthy. But a really tasty lunch? Nah.

    This place is really cute and clean.. My experiences have been fairly good. I like that the food is more of a healthy alternative rather than covered in grease. A sandwich and drink cost around $7.

    Upbeat and modern styling that utilizes an existing structure in historical Boneyfiddle. Unique and intuitive ordering system. Great food that is freshly made and healthier than many other sit down dining options in the area. Price point is on point with the quality and proper portions received. Great place for a casual business lunch. Only nitpick is that there is limited parking during the lunch rush, so get here early.

    I'm a Shawnee State University Alum so when I went back for Alumni weekend I was excited to try this new Café. I was more or less looking for a nice hot cup of coffee and a salad. First off when I arrived, I was confused on how to order and the two guys working were of no help, I was standing there looking like a lost kid until I approached one and they explained how to order and I was still confused. It was awkward and I wanted to leave because of this negative vibe I was getting. Finally, I got my coffee and salad, and it may have been the worst cup of coffee I have ever had -- cold and tasted like crap....When I asked them for a fresh cup they put my coffee in the microwave to heat it up and gave it back to me...WTF, just make a fresh cup how hard is that how lazy can you get. More or less, I'm done with this place...will never go back. Not to mention the guys working there didn't seem like they were being very sanitary when making the food.

    First off, I'm glad places like this are opening for residents of Scioto county and Shawnee State students. I wish there was more competition instead of all the antique shops in the area. I came in thanks to the advertisement for fish tacos on the sidewalk. The place seemed dead around 11am, but picked up a lunch crowd when I finished my meal. The menu is small with healthy sanwiches, burritos & salads. I'm OK with this because it's less confusing. I did like that the decor and table seating area was very clean. When I got my fish tacos, I thought I got ripped off with small portions. When I finished eating, I was satisfied because the fish and the toppings were hot and fresh and food was pretty good. My stomach was satisfied. I would suggest others who like to eat healthy to give this place a try.
